Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Levak and Guz on ninety five nine Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
You know, I'm not so much mad for Michigan. I'm
you know, I'm listening. I'm not I'm not happy about
I feel like Michigan's being treated scandalously for being for
being perfectly honest. I don't. I don't feel like it's
it's right to treat the national champions the way they're
being they're being treated right now. But I I mean,

(00:30):
I just I don't think we're I don't think we're
treating these schools the right way. I think I think
there were poor Fresno States. I feel like it's being
massively disrespected. Fresno State goes out there and they fight
it out with Michigan and they lose thirty to ten.
With referees helped. There also probably would have been thirty
eight to ten, maybe forty two to ten. But like,

(00:52):
how does Michigan win cover the spread? They cover the
spread and they fall down rankings in most people's opinion,
how does that happen? You won, You won the way
I asked you to win, and then I still am
gonna take away points.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Were you impressed by them? Did you think they were
better than you thought, worse than you thought, are too e.
Maybe that's your take care of You're trying to say
it's too early to just slam the door and say
they stink after a present of state performance.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I I, well, you know me, man, I expected Orgie,
so I was a little disappointed the lack of Orgy.
They definitely they got better as the game went on.
There is so so Shirl Moore is going to have
that they're gonna run. I did not. I did not
feel like they were nearly as physical as I expected

(01:43):
them to be. I did not think they were as
dominant as I hope they would be. When I saw
Davis Warren was the starter over Alex ORGI I was
a little confused and and you know, concerned, But realistically,
I figure anybody can hand the ball to down to
the Edwards. He did not get loose. No, they weren't
as good as i'd hope. But again, you made them.

(02:06):
What were they They were like nineteen and a half point
favors or something like that, and they won by twenty.
But I got people going they were nine now, so
people are talking about being ten, eleven, twelve, fifteen, falling
out of the top ten before a big matchup with Texas.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Is Texas back? Yes, Yes, they are back. I can't
wait for that game. That game is gonna be a
lot of fun, I hope. Well here's the thing, don't
drop them now. You might be able to do it
next week and I might not be able to say anything.
You know what. I was gonna do a big take
care about like what it means for the future of
college sports, because I think Michigan doesn't enter this. But

(02:42):
there's other programs like Florida State, who we touched on
a little bit.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
They didn't look great.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
LSU lost and people are going nuts about Brian Kelly.
There's other big time programs that have a Florida Oh
my gosh, they look how that Florida bet go for me?

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Yeah, me too. I was with the other one.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Some of those teams that are just known to show
up and be like, well, it's Florida, they're gonna win.
I remember who had this take. Danny Canell had this
take when Florida State had I believe it was EJ
Manuel got hurt, and his take was, look, ej Manuel
got hurt, don't worry about it. It's Florida.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
State.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
They got a bunch of four and five star guys
on the roster. They're gonna be fine. That take you
could have had for the last eighty years. It's Alabama,
it's Florida, it's Michigan's Texas. They got a kid behind
him who's just as good. This is the world of
college football. If you hear people say that in twenty
twenty four, start to correct them, because I don't think
we live in that world anymore, because of the transfer portal,

(03:36):
because of nil because I want to get on the
field now as SaaS as possible make my money. I
don't want to sit on the bench. And college coaches
deal with this all the time. Teams aren't as deep.
It's not as easy to replace somebody. Oh we'll go
to the second stringer, or we go buy someone from
a smaller school. Well let's see if this guy can
prove it in the game, or we don't let them
find out if they can prove it in the game.
Let's just get someone who has proved it before in

(03:57):
the game. So Michigan's not in that vote. But maybe
I'll have a different take after the Texas game. Well,
maybe they just lost too.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Much listen, Texas game is gonna be It's special, all right?
Hold on last year East Carolina Michigan wins thirty to three,
UNLV thirty five to seven, Bowling Green thirty one to six,
rod Kers thirty one to seven. Obviously that's the most
impressive one of the batch. But that's who they are.
They're not a blow you out team. I don't I'm mad.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
I'm mad.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Why aren't we taking you? They do? You can't drop
them this week. They gotta be nine or better this week.
Next week could be a whole nother anbumal. Texas is scary.
Texas is very scary. They've got everything you want.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Texas. Uh that four which is sitting there. I feel
like the number early in the week is giving Michigan
a lot of love. Though, Like if that had opened
it's seven and a half, then you could have been like, seriously,
they're a top ten team, they're the defending national champions,
and they're only a four point dog. I think that's
a little bit of me. It could have been worse.

(05:01):
It was seven and a half, sing seven a half point dog?

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Well they are now now there's seven and a half points.
Oh gosh, it's been bad to that. Okay, well let
me ask you. Let me ask you that question.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
You know what, I take back my entire take. That's
a lot of movement in the last seventy two hours. Well,
all right, but the four, the original four.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
They're begging you to take Texas, right, Yeah, what do
you do when they beg you to take tests?

Speaker 3 (05:28):
I would take Texas though still I know they're begging
me to do that, but they like Texas is better,
and I would have liked it at four, five, six
and seven.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
That's and a half. Yeah, seven and a half. Now
I'm telling you, maybe, maybe, just maybe, you gotta go
Michigan and they'll ugly it up and keep it within
a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Maybe win. Nah, you don't think so. I don't think
Michigan will win. I don't don't not the plus you're
gonna give me seven and a half.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
What do we bet?

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Let me think? Let me that was creepy.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
That was creepy. That was weird. Please don't do that
sound again.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Let me just side by Friday. I'll decide on Friday. Well,
it depends where the spread is by that. That's exactly right.
That's why I wanted to wait till Friday.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
It might be eight and a half nine by then,
with all this character assassination against my beloved national champion
raining defending undisputed national champion Michigan Wolverines.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
The only reason I'm even hesitating to take your bet
right now is because one I still do owe you
a night under the Orange roof, which I haven't forgot about.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
That's coming side.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Know we're doing it, We're doing it. How about time
I told you about USC Rutgers for that game we
talked to our friends at the Orange Roof. That's the game,
that's the weekend, that's the Friday I'm thinking about. The
only other reason I'm hesitating is you take this to
me earlier in the show. Texas is so good. I
do miss the Texas back beams, though I do miss them.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
What if I told you Connor Stallions are someone who
looks like him was at the Colorado State game. What
if I told you that, huh.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
I would think Michigan. I would start thinking a bit differently.
It might be more interested.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
I don't think it matters. I think if Texas is
as good as you think they are, as good as
a lot of people think they are, you you could
tell people what's coming, You're still gonna be able to
do it.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
I felt more comfortable in saying that Georgia was the
best team in the SEC over Texas and Yeat. It
still sounds weird saying Texas is in the SEC. Georgia
did it look good for about two and a half
three quarters, and then they went and then you know,
it goes back to that point a few minutes ago
talking about traditional powers that don't want to adjust and

(07:27):
just can't show up and beat everybody. Dabo Sweeney, just
try the portal. It's not drugs. Dabo, my god man,
and I was anyone said, god, we round Dabbo Sweeney.
Did you see the jokes people are getting him with. Look,
this is not a real quote. We put up three
peel gonna say, hey, Dabo Sweeney, that's the three most
important father son, holy ghost, those are our three. Just

(07:49):
try the portal. I heard a stat that it's like
three schools have never done it, all the service academies
in Clemson.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Can you imagine though, like transferring into army. That's hey, listen,
I just don't think I get a playing time at
Fresno State. Let's it go to army. You know more
comes with it. Just running the football. Nah, that'd be fine.
Please listen up closely, Nah, I'll be okay. Why am
I got a hair cut? Here's here's my here's my
prediction of the downfall of Texas. You're ready, all right?

(08:20):
The worst possible thing happened arch Manning and cleanup time
comes in, goes five for six ninety five yards in
the TD. I know there's a doctor Pepper commercial out there,
but Quinn Yours going, we don't need backup. We don't
need backup, especially if that's good hair and it's the
famous as a famous dad and everything. No, no, we
don't need backup. I think Quinn Yours is going to

(08:41):
be trying too hard to keep bold arch Manning on
the bench. Michigan. Michigan wins the game.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
I won't go that far you. I think arch Maning
did look really good. He is a very exciting player
to watch, even though he is the backup. I will
take Texas and we'll figure something out by Friday. If
I like where the line is, I have to pace
some one off, though, Lavak. I know we've got coach
wear coming up, so now I kind of got to
rush this in a little bit, and I saw you
reacting to something on the internet. I want to make
sure we get in the dump too. I tease that
I was going to talk about our friend Joey chestnunt here,

(09:09):
our dear, dear friend Joey Chestnut to kire Kobayashi if
you missed it. For our listeners who might have not noticed.
In February, Levak and I now can say that we've
drank beers with Joey Chestnut. That's my first line in
my Twitter profile.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
We actually knew this show was coming out long before
anyone else did. Fabuare I named Joey Chestnut or tskiro Kobyashi.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
We had heard it from the horse's mouth, from the
goat's mouth, from Jaws's mouth, that this was gonna happen.
I'm a bad American. I feel like today, why because
I told you weeks ago I was going to be
locked in on this. I told you Labor Day. There's
no communition. Didn't watch a second of it.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Now.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
I should have known better. I should have known better
because I thought, you know what, I'll watch it on replay.
I'll watch it later because here's what happened. To me,
and this is a bad excuse, but it's the truth.
Chestnut Total told us two things. Told us about that battle,
and he told us about a reality show that's on
the way where they like do like man versus food

(10:07):
like Kobeyashi and chest Up versus whatever. I clearly got
those confused. I thought it was like the debut of
that show was Labor Day and the battle would be later.
Not a good enough excuse. I didn't watch it, and
I feel bad. I let Joey down.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I love him. You did ten minutes. You couldn't spare
ten minutes for our new best friend. Man, that's messed up. Guys.
Personal record, he guys, they both had prs personal records.
Just his was eighty three hot dogs in ten minutes,
and you couldn't spare ten minutes for Joe j.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Just It's the end of major league geting as we
know it. This is like the Live Golf of professional leading.
Where are the true best athletes? This is like the
WCW or the ae W of professional leading. This is
gonna be a whole federation shoo. Brianna Stewart tried this
in the WNBA. She's still trying to soon Levac. Maybe
you know what we could be the first signings. This

(11:06):
is what Kobe.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
I don't eat fast. I seed a lot.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
But they're looking for talent. You know, that's their next step.
It's gonna be the reality show and then they're gonna
take on p M l EE Professional Major League Eating.
You watch it.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I didn't watch any of it. No, I didn't watch it,
and I watched it later. I didn't watch it live.
I watched it later though.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
It was Labor Day and we were all pretty busy,
and I mean, yeah, I was.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
I was sleeping off Scottish games and then you know,
trying to heal myself from the Scottish games on Sunday.
Then I remember that about halfway your Sunday that I
have to work Monday. Then I had to get after it.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
Thinking back now, like that fourth quarter of Boston College
Florida State, we could have flipped it over to Kobayashi
and chest out.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
On that didn't do it. You didn't, oh man, I
don't know. I don't.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
I think MLI will be fine as long as they
have Nathan's because that that that's the only time normal
people watch this stuff is that is that one.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
I'm curious of the radiance if they were far lower
than Netflix and hoped, or they're higher.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
I don't know what Netflix was difficult for me to
think of people going. You know, I wasn't going to
spend the twenty dollars a month on Netflix. But now
there's two dudes eating hot dogs in ten minutes, so
you know, sign me up. I'm ready. What's ad free?
I want to make sure I'm ad free. I don't
want any interruption between me and Captain America Joey Chestnut

(12:35):
in eighty three hot Dogs.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
I want to know how often that discussions happened in
the history of Netflix, which is famous for being billions
of dollars in debt. Look, wasn't going to get this,
but I heard there was a show about a women's prison.
Wasn't going to get Netflix, but I heard Kevin Spacey's
being a creep again. Oh I want back. Like all
their popular shows, Stranger Things is the only one that actually, hey,

(13:00):
comic with a little bit of horrid little that's the
best sell they've had in the history of Netflix.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Well, then now they're gonna have They're getting sports right there,
got more so I heard Hulu has live sports, pretty.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Good ad the Never Run a pretty good shop. Although
I have a story about I want to tell you
about the my odyssey. My wife's odyssey coming up later

deals going on social media and more. It's mohawk Kanda
where they always go out of their way to please you.
We've got a special guest coming up here.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah, well listen to Damon Ware. He's I don't know,
I don't know how he has time to this call.
So we finished the Firebirds season, we come, we'll come back.
He's like, all right, I'm gonna take a break. I'll
see you guys. Get ready, We're gonna get after it whatever.
Like a day later, he goes, Hey, I'm going to
Hudson Valley'm gonna I'm gonna help coach the Hudson Valley
football team. I'm like, it's been three days. He go, yeah,

(14:27):
I get one more day off before we start. And
then like I see his wife, Nanny, and she's like, yeah,
he didn't take a break. He's supposed to take a break.
But they look good. They look really, really good. So
let's talk to a head coach general manager of the
ALMNI Firebers, now assistant coach for the Hudson Valley Vikings.
Damian Ware's gonna join us next right here. Fox Sports
Radio nine and nine eighty.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
It's love Akin Guz on the voice of the Capitol
Regions Sports Fan Fox Sports ninety five, nine and nine eighty.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
There are people in this world who don't understand what
time off is. And one of those is is a
friend of our is the head coach general manager of
the Albany Firebirds. Damon ware with us, and Damon, instead
of taking some time off, you're now the assistant coach
helping with the Hudson Valley Vikings.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
What's wrong with you? Don't you like to go home?

Speaker 4 (15:15):
You'd uh, you'd think I did. But unfortunately, when duty calls, Uh,
sometimes you just got to help out. And uh, you know,
I'm all about this community, and uh, they needed some help,
and it was a it was a perfect opportunity. It's
it's close to the office, it's close to my house.
But again it's a it's a nice school and so

(15:37):
uh the uh, the marriage came together pretty quickly. And
I think I had about four days off when the
season was done. Uh I do think that's a little crazy.
So don't uh don't think I don't realize how crazy
it was to go from a full season to another
fourteen hour day job. But uh, we're too and on

(15:57):
right now, and uh it all is, Uh, it's all fun.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
You mentioned the marriage coming together quickly. What was the setup,
like did Levac put you on a blind date with somebody.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Was there Signal Noua has already mad at me. I
had nothing to do with this. This is all coach
where together.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
Well, you know, we we practice here, you know, probably
about a fourth of the season. Uh So being around
here and getting to know the people around here, it
was just one of those things. They had some changes
going on, and it was just kind of the perfect storm.
It was just you know, one day we'd just start
talking and spoke, sparked up a conversation. Uh, that conversation

(16:35):
went forward. Next thing, you know, I was interviewing and
the next thing, I was signing the contract. And so
it came together rather quickly. Again, I'm I'm all about
the community here. It's another avenue. It's you know, it's
just another place to spread some of my knowledge around.
And uh, it's just a good thing. And so you know,

(16:56):
getting together with these younger kids, kids that are trying
to make it up to the D one and all
of that. It's it's it's been a fun experience, you know,
different than what I'm used to obviously with professional athletes.
But but I'm having a good time and that's what
it's all about you got to have fun with what
you're doing. And fortunately for me, uh, I love what
I do, and so here we go.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
I want to get back to that difference between college
kids versus pro athletes at a second, But you personally,
I think people do with this all the time. We're
going to almost put a different hat on, not maybe physically,
but change the mindset of what you're working with. In
for you, you go from arena football. See I caught
myself there at the fact arena football to outdoor football.
Did you find yourself saying, like, I know, this is football,

(17:38):
but how much did your brain at to adjustin, Hey,
these rules are a little bit different. My coaching technique's
got to be a little bit different.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
Obviously. We all come from the outside world. And like
I said, I head coach a college all star team
every every January as well, So it's I keep myself
very in tuned with the outdoor game and my you know,
even part of my meetings with some of my players
at the arena level, we discuss outdoor technique and outdoor
protocols as well, just because at the end of the day,

(18:07):
you know, I don't think there's many people that go
to college, especially a bigger college, and say, you know, hey,
I want to grow up to be an arena football player.
You grow up saying I want to play in the NFL,
and you know, if you're good enough, obviously, and and
some somewhere in that in that just under the NFL
tier you fall down to our levels, and so outdoors outdoor,

(18:28):
So it's it's it's what we've all done. I've been
in it since I was six years old, So it
doesn't take anything to shift focuses. Is it a lot different, sure,
you know, but coaching basic technique is all the same.
Scheme is obviously different. There's way more things that you
see obviously when you have five offensive linemen versus three.
But football is football, and so it didn't take me

(18:51):
but five minutes to just refocus my mind back into
the outdoor game and get ready. And it's the same
thing I got to go through every January. So I
fun with it. That's you know, it's like I said,
it's a very beautiful campus. It's you know, again, we
got a nice stadium and it just all worked. And so,
like I said, I'm just glad to be able to
give back to the community.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Damn aware with us right now a Fox Sports Radio
ninety five, nine and nine eighty. I see the game.
You guys just won forty six nothing five rushing touchdowns.
The first time we ever spoke to you, you're like,
I'm all run the football? Is it kind of there's
there's definitely more room to run outdoors. Is that like
a kid in the candy shop for you right now?
With a running game?

Speaker 4 (19:31):
Yeah, I thoroughly believe in the running game, just a
It takes so much pressure off of quarterbacks. But it's
a real thing. And when you can run the football
successfully on a regular basis, it's it's very discouraging for
a defense. And you know, we talk about it at
our level all the time, just being tough and physical,
and so, you know, defense they always start off preaching

(19:51):
how tough and physical they need to be. But realistically,
when an offense can can be tougher and fit more
physical than defenses, it's a fun thing. And you see
how frustrating that could be. And so we've got three
really really good running backs here at HVCC. They're all unique,
they're all different. We've got a power back, We've got
one that runs extremely hard, we've got one that could

(20:13):
do a little bit of everything from you know, special teams,
to run on the ball, to catch it out of
the backfield. So we've really got three kids that deserve
to play, and you know, they all got playing time
this past weekend and they all scored a touchdown. And
so it's fun to see everybody having success. And you know,
obviously again we'll we'll face some tougher teams down the stretch,
but we're off to a good start to and oh

(20:35):
beaten Thaddy Stevens and then Buffalo State. Those are two
good wins for us. And we just got to keep
this thing going.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
Now, obviously I wouldn't be you're gonna be able to
get some of these kids to go ahead and switch
from Vikings to Firebirds at some point in their life.
Are we are we recruiting a little bit too? What
do we got going on?

Speaker 4 (20:53):
I mean, the cool part is just through all the
meetings and the interactions and and them knowing, you know,
just what I do. That the conversation comes up all
the time and I you know, I implore these kids that hey,
let's you know, first thing first, let's get you to
a D one school. Let's work with that first, and
then after you get done with that, you have a
relationship with me. So again, you should stay in contact

(21:13):
with me throughout your career, sending me your films throughout
your career. That's how you keep me, you know, interested
in you, so to speak. And you know, again it's
it's always fun to be at to date somebody for
a while before you, you know, you take the leap
with them, and so those kind of things are huge.
And so that's the fun thing I've you know, one
of my best receivers, we you know, we talk about
those things and just how excited he was to to

(21:36):
know that somebody like me was coaching him this year
and uh, and just how excited his family was. And so,
you know, all these little steps I get to teach
these kids that probably wouldn't get an understanding of what
you need to do to get yourself in a position
to play professional football. And it's fun for me to
be able to teach these kids. And hopefully some of
these kids can go off to D one schools and
then come and be Firebirds. I think that would be

(21:58):
a pretty cool feat.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Well, so I see you coach where and obviously head
coach Don Jones, good dude, defensive mind. But I see
other familiar names that Firebird fans might be familiar with
from the coaching staff as well. You're not You're not
the only Bird over there, are you. No.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
Coach Brandon Sisays over here as well, working with the
defensive line. He's doing a great job just getting experience.
And this is what you need as a young coach,
to just continue to fill your resume up with good experience.
And so you know, having him here at the college
level is going to be huge for him obviously going forward.
And uh and then our intern Jordan Gooch, he's here

(22:36):
as well as a student assistant and helping with the
running backs, doing a good job. And obviously it was
fun to see the running backs have success this weekend.
But you know, Jordan's a young kid and he worked
super hard, and like I said, I already told him
I plan on bringing him back to the Firebirds next year.
And we just got to sit down and talk talk
numbers and schedules and all those types of things. But

(22:59):
it's it's always great to spend as much time as
you can with people. It's it's in those relationships where
you continue to build and grow and prosper together. And
so I'm super excited to have these kids with me
here as well. And then as soon as this is over,
we'll get right back into Firebirds football. So all this
has just been a fun and exciting experience. And again

(23:20):
I just implore you know you get out and coach.
You know what I mean, Like, that's that's what you
got to do. Is you just got to get out
and coach. And the more you coach, the more you learn,
the more you learn, the better opportunities you'll have in
the future. So super excited to have some of my
guys with me here as well.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
You mentioned the teaching sign of it and how it
feels different from a college level to professional working with
pro athletes compared to athletes who are aspiring for the
next spot of their careers, and the excitement and all
the energy that a young athlete has. But as much
as those things are great and those are fantastic answers,
which I feel like as we all get older in life,
those college kids stay the same age. And whether it's music,
whether it's fashion, whether it's something else, do you ever

(23:58):
feel times you're getting older here and with some of
your players. Now we're talking about of what, I don't
know what you feel disconnected at times because of how
the separation is there between the youth and the wily
veteran that you are.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
You know, these kids keep me young, you know, I
they definitely keep me just just up to speed in
youth and and their mindset and all those things. And
then plus, like I said, I'm being a more older,
wily vet. Uh. You know, I only let them go
so far with the with the young mindset. So we're
we're very structured in our meetings, very structured at practice. Uh.

(24:35):
So again, I'm sure they probably don't let out as
much of the youthfulness as probably maybe if they had
a younger coach or or somebody with less experience. But uh,
but but but again, they helped me to keep me young.
So like I said, I enjoy watching them be a
little wild and crazy and having a good time and
talking about stuff that obviously I have no idea, and
the world has changed. And you know, I say this

(24:57):
jokingly but but partially serious. Is like I'm not in
any hurry to leave this earth, that's for sure. However,
I do feel that at the time I will be going.
It's going to be a perfect opportunity because this world
is changing just a little too much for me, and
I think the next generations is too different for me,
and so I think, uh, you know, but but that's

(25:18):
a good thing about football. Football keeps us grounded, It
keeps us with a common theme, a common culture, and
so when you're in that, it really isn't much difference
from one one thing to another. And yeah, these kids
are a little more immature and you know, all those
type of things, but when it comes to the football field,
I'm just so serious about the game. And you know,
I tell them all the time in my meetings, and

(25:39):
you know, I do the same thing with you know,
with myself as well, is just say hey, I'm sorry,
I'm your coach. And they they kind of chuckled about it.
In the first meeting, I said, I'm sorry, your coach,
because I'll just never put up with anything that you're
probably used to putting up with, and you're gonna have
to adjust to it.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
Not me.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
You know, they hired me to do a job and
I'm going to do it. And you know, about once
a week I remind them, hey, I'm sorry, your coach.
You know, we meet longer than than they've ever met before.
We do things more, it's more detailed than they've ever
done before. And so, you know, but there's a lot
of people that have that have just gravitated towards that
they love having all that structure and it is making
them more mature in the process. And so it's been fun.

(26:20):
Like I said, for me, it's just it's fun and exciting.
It's it's fun to be around the outdoor game again
and all the different schemes and defenses that we see
and just you know, all the different things that you
have to worry about and the course of a football game.
Just having a good time and hopefully, you know, I
can continue to give back to the community. And when
this is all over, I'll be right back to the

(26:40):
Firebirds office and let's kick off for twenty twenty five
and go chase a championship, all.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Right for people who you know need a little a
little more damon aware in their life to get by
until we get the Firebirds going again. This Friday, two
pm over at huts of Valcati College, you guys are
hosting Montclair State JV. You know, obviously, you know I
have to admit this. I'm sorry, I don't know a
ton about Montclair State JV. Do we feel good? Do

(27:06):
we have a good chance of going through and out here?

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Yeah? I just got their film over the weekend. You know,
the hard thing about facing JV teams is you get
the you know, you get the varsity teams film, and
so it's it's it's difficult to get, you know, fully
engaged into a game plan because you're seeing what their
top players are doing. You see what their top player
schemes are. And fortunately, you know, like I said, you
don't always get that from you know, from the JV players.

(27:31):
But you know, it's just interesting to just play different
teams around the country. You know, it helps me as well.
These are D three schools and and obviously for me,
I'm shaking hands and talking to guys just the same
because at the end of the day, you never know,
I may want to recruit some of these guys for
the Firebirds as well. So it's always cool to to
just network with some of the four year universities. And

(27:52):
I'm glad we do these games. It's it's fun and
exciting and and uh, we've got a really good football
team and I think we could do a lot of things,
and we just got to continue to get better every week.
But uh, I think we're in good shape. I think uh,
I think Montclair coming down will be fun for their
JB kids to play a road game, and it'll be
fun for us as well, and so, uh, you know,
I like our chances here at home. Uh. It's kind

(28:15):
of an awkward time to do a game, but hey,
I got used to awkward uh this season as well
to games all over the place.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
We wouldn't know what to do if it wasn't very
awkward lately. That's that's for sure. Oh, coach, best of luck, bag,
Well keep talking to you. We do have some flock
university players will be announcing it and not to just
in future. Uh, coach guys said he'll give you all
the beer in his fridge for name, image and likeness.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
So I didn't say that.

Speaker 4 (28:37):
I did not, you know. I Well, I think we
do an absolute great job with f lock you. So
we're definitely gonna have to talk to Fox Sports and uh,
you know, put our foot down a little more this year.
I think we we do a heck of a show
and uh, you know, let's talk.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Yeah, I like this.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
I have a lot of stuff. A oh, coach, where
drinks year Apparently it's so odd. The at the end
of the interview is connection always breaks up, so we
can't but it's breaking up again. Coach, Thank you for
your time. Hope that you can hear us. Good luck
this Weekend's see if the do.

Speaker 4 (29:12):
Alrighty, you can't what.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
I see him every morning. You can't hang up on
him all the time.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
No, I'm not hanging up on him. You've heard his connection.
It just breaks up at the end.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
It's crazy how that works. It is. It's insane.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
A lot of stuff.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
You do, a lot of stuff. You know a lot
of people.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
Let me let me clarify some of these other there,
because I feel like some people might have got a
little confused about the JV conversation, like, oh, they're playing.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
To JV two.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Stinklu No, these divisals, you have one hundred, one hundred
and fifty. There are some Division three football programs that
have close to one hundred and seventy kids on the roster.
So you have a decision to make either you're going
to show up to a Division III football game and
you're gonna have one hundred and sixty kids stand on
the sidelines, or you're gonna play seventy five or eighty
percent of the kids because look like the trans reporter.

(30:00):
We talked a lot about that during the show today
and different sports, basketball, volleyball, baseball, you're gonna get on
the field, but you could at the D two or
D three level sit for two years, sit for three years,
and you're not on a scholarship, like they want to play.
They want to get these guys in the field. What
would you rather do if you loved your sport? Would
you rather stand on the sidelines and you just practice

(30:22):
for three years or actually get to play football against
other people? So football, of course, So like these JV games.
I get his point, like you can't find film because
you're not gonna have a different style in the JV game.
But for people like kind of trashing it and being like,
well they're playing JV. No, no, No, these are college football
players who want to play and just got to get
their reps in. So it's great for everybody. It's great
for his program, and it's good for the programs they're playing.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Yeah, no, one hundred percent in the ky college level.
The way the teams are set up is very different anyway,
So like, don't take any of it for granted till
you see it. That's that's what I would I would recommend.
But good, good point. All right, So there he is
the professor head coach David Where we're talking a little
bit today about Flock University. We're gonna do one very

(31:08):
very soon. We're just figuring out where and how we
might do at Hudson Valley.

Speaker 3 (31:12):
Oh, it'd be pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Yeah, we're pretty excited about that. You say, gear, why
don't you You've got some elevation ten thousand gear on
and from the looks of it, I think this is
one of the few ones you owned that I didn't
pay for.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
That's exactly right. Elevate your brand today with elevation ten thousand.
Whatever it might be that helps you get through. Maybe
it's apparel, maybe it's marketing, whatever it kept your business,
find that new audience elevation ten thousand and help you
do a shout to davemon Clett and his team, and
elevate your brand today with elevation ten thousand.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
And you're rockets as well. Back well, listen, they're gonta
get you know, get the message out. Just because we're
in the off season for the Firebirds doesn't mean we
ever go away. We're here, We're making it happen. We
want to put more and more people in the stands
and win more and more games and championships. That's that's
the partnership we have. I know people. They make her website,
everything else. Elevate your brand today with elevation ten thousand

(32:05):
coming up, it's the Yemp right here on Fox Sports
Radio nine eighty.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
It's love Ack and Guz on the Voice of the
Capitol Regions sports fan Fox Sports ninety five and nine eighty.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
Live in the GT Toys Studios. That's Toys with a Z.
I all right, I don't want to be This is
not me being mean, okay, but I'm curious about something.
Did I do something to Christy good stuff for some varlot.

(32:39):
Did I do something to her? And I don't know
about it?

Speaker 3 (32:41):
What do you mean At the end of where He's like,
she's a.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
Writer for the Times Union, she has a relationship with
a lot of media people in this market. I'm I
must have done something to offend this woman. That's all
there is to it. How does Sean Martin, your boys,
Sean Martin, get a twenty things you don't know about me?
Before I even get called about it.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
You don't even ask me. I've done some interesting stuff.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
How how I mean Sean Martin never gone to war
with Antonio Brown? How many New York State broadcasts does
Shawn have?

Speaker 3 (33:16):
We both like the Raiders. There's like, there's some similarities.
We love our guys, Seanmr Pugsley, who's sailed in for
you twice this summer. He's filled in free twice here
on Fox Sports ninety five nine to ninety But nobody.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
Like like no offense. More people know who I have
to know who he is, right, just being realistic, I
would say, so, yeah, okay, that's all right.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
Wait, but let me ask you this one.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
When is yours? When is yours come out? When is
your twenty things you don't know about? God's come out?

Speaker 3 (33:41):
I have gone on a record and said I'll never
do that. Okay, I've never said that. I might be
this might be why your phone's not rigging. I might
They might have thought it was the little vacking god
situation here.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
Well, because remember I did want Pete Doherty that did
something similar on me. Like a feature and it was
awesome and it was And the reason that means a
lot to me is I used to deliver this newspaper,
so to be in it it's kind of a big
deal to me.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
But what did like? Was there a list? And if
if am I on the list at all? How far
below Sean Martin?

Speaker 3 (34:13):
Am I?

Speaker 2 (34:15):
Who's next? Ryan McCarthy is Zach Junior from the LOL crew?
And g why is he next?

Speaker 3 (34:25):
Whatever?

Speaker 1 (34:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
No, I don't even want to do it now. I
don't even want to do it. I would never He's
never gonna call me anyway. I would read the Sean Martin.
It's very cool, very happy for our guys. Sean he
texted me about it earlier today. Very exciting stuff for him.
I'm glad he got a feature in twenty things. Uh,
here's what I think. I could be wrong. And for
those who are listening on the app, by the way,
they may have no clue what we're talking about here
in the Capitol region, that is a big feature, that's

(34:48):
like a weekly future. It's pretty cool. It feels like
an honor to Christy Bartlett's credit. It gets talked about
by a lot of media members. I heard a story.
I won't to say the person's name. I they may
or may not work in media anymore. He or she
may no longer work in media. She said I made it,
or he said I made it. When she got the
twenty things, I'm like, that was what?

Speaker 2 (35:10):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (35:11):
I mean you you seem really proud of it.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
But it's a smart thing because think about it like this.
If you had me in it, I would talk about it,
and then the people who listen to the show will
go read it. You know. Now you put Sean in
it and listen. Sean is a friend. He's not as
cool as me. He's not he's not as famoush as
I am, But you know he's a friend.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
Whatever, it's my fault. It's my fault you're not in
it is I think Christy hates me well, I said
some I want to say nasty things about her, but
things that would prevent us from being nasty. Yet. Do
you know what I said? Do you remember what I said?

Speaker 2 (35:48):
I don't remember. I know you was it wasn't good.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
I said, she's got to knock it off with the
media stuff. Like I had a pro I still do
let's let's make it clear. I've said that my problem
with Christie Artlet or whatever her k Okay, I think
her Sean piece is great. She's done people in the past.
I think that feature is nice, even though it's basically
just filling out a senior newspaper like you're in high school.

(36:12):
But nonetheless I think it's it is it's the same.
But I think Sean's is great. Not to anything away
from Sean. This is more about KGB.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
It's weird.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
I know it looks good. Uh here's rom KGB. I
would just like her that when a news anchor leaves,
like she wrote a piece I believe about Stella King
Leavin thirteen, she obviously will write a follow up of
who's going to replace her?

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Right?

Speaker 3 (36:33):
Oh no, is not what she just only wants to do,
Like here are the twelve news anchors that have left TV.
Here are the eight radio hosts that have left the cap.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Oh you say she's a little too negative, Okay, A
little bit of.

Speaker 3 (36:44):
That, Like it's such low hanging fruit of anytime somebody
in television or radio or newspaper leaves, she's the first
to share the social media post and a lot of
the people in the comments will be like, this is
why people leave the Capital region. Just a stepping stone,
small but me okay, Like we'll use Gardner Royce runn example. Right,

(37:04):
she wrote a piece about Gardner Royce leaving the CBS
six News team. Uh sports, Gardner's.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Gonna go on.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
I would have liked CBS hires A. J. Pinkowski is
new CBS anchor.

Speaker 2 (37:17):
Okay, like I would.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
If you're gonna cover media, cover both sides of it.
That'd be like Adam Schefter only reporting on cuts and
releases or retirements. It just acting like no one was
ever signed by the Giants ever. Again, that's a problem,
And I would tell her that too to her face, like, hey,
I think you get a lot of nice traction with
your stuff, but just like can you if you're gonna
Pete Doherty, I don't agree with a lot of stuff

(37:39):
he does. But to Pete Doherty's credit, he covers both.
I thought he was retired. Ken Shott featured us on
the Jets. Oh FAC's gonna cover Jet game. That's all that.
So I said that. I think she might have heard
that for the Grapevine. So that's my fault. Levank, You're
probably never gonna get asked.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
No, the more I look at who's been asked recently,
there's a home inspector, an esthetician, the carrying closet, somebody
from his own hospitality wave market. Yeah, I don't think
I'm Maybe I don't understand, Maybe I don't get the assignment.
Maybe I don't belong. Maybe you know what we should do.

(38:16):
We should do like sixteen things about us and just
do it on the show one day.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
No, no, no, twenty one, twenty one, you'll do one more.
I thought we do less. I feel like last nineteen Yeah, ah, man.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
I just kind out. I looked up. I see Sean
Martin's goofy moug and I was like, wait, why did
Shaw get invited to this thing?

Speaker 3 (38:38):
Now you know that's the answer. God's round it for you. Yeah,
but he's runs with you too. Yeah, he wasn't grouped
in on that take though. That's it's not you.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
Just like, all right, I need everyone in the media
to understand something about Thomas Guyslowski the third. He wants
a media rival so badly that if Mother Teresa did
a weekly just you know, opinion piece in the gazette,
he would go to war with her in hopes that

(39:09):
she would write something negative about it so that he
could keep it going. He wants to fight somebody in
media so bad that he doesn't do any like all
the good stuff. It's like like if I was offered this,
he would be thrilled about it, he'd talk about it whatever.
If he was offering it, he would turn it down
and hope she would then write some negative things about

(39:30):
him that he could come out here and be like
and just destroy her.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
For Yes, he's the answer to that. Yes, I have
no defense. The answer is yes, you live. You live
for the for the beef, the media, beef WrestleMania forty
one gu Z versus KGB. There can only be one
big j journalist in the Capitol region.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
You should, are you god? It's Mark Music? Are you gonna?
Are you gonna band Shawn? Now that he's done it, No,
We've had.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
A lot of people who have done it before. I'm
very happy for Sean. He's Vass has done it from
our Chad Davis has done it before. AJ has done
it before.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Pankowski, Yeah, dude, he.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
Did like a month in. He got it like the
first day he got in it. I've had farts last.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Longer than he's been in the Capitol region, and he.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
Gets to do it. I believe Leanna's done it.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
Well, that's she's She's a goddess. I love Leanna. I
don't know.

Speaker 3 (40:22):
I don't know a lot of radio people have done it.
Maybe she's not a big radio fan. Maybe that's I
think she's not a Jefflovak fan.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
I think it's one of it. So I took radio
with me and then you started a fight. It's interesting.
Or maybe maybe because I did the Pete Doherty when
it can never be topped. Ooh, that could be end.
I think that's still in a folder somewhere in my house.
My kid had I was about to couple up thrown out.
It was on the fridge. It's just about like I
literally I put my hand up, you know, like I'll
like whatever, like a bill is paid or whatever. I'll

(40:49):
put my hand up and I'll grab it and I'll
toss it out. So I'm walking into the kitchen. I
see it, and I was just in a certain mood
and I put my hand up on his mother guy.
But she's like, do not crumple that up. I'm like, whoa, whoa.
She was like, I think she's like sixteen seventeen, and
she's like, I'm like what, and she goes, that's important,
and she came to she put it in a folder

(41:10):
and like she whisted away.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
So that's very cool, that's right.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Whatever.

Speaker 3 (41:16):
Maybe hear me out on this series, Christy Gustastin Barletta
is actually the wise Owl and that she won the
Pink Sheet, and you were taking shots at the wise
Owl who won the Pink sheet and the last race
over our guy Closeder and Andrew Champagne. Maybe it's a
Superman Clark Kent situation, but a female.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
That's the case that I want nothing to do with it.
That's the I want nothing.

Speaker 3 (41:40):
We're never going to be in it. Quentin Cantr were
in it. We're not in it. Other people here at
iHeart have been in it. I blew it for us
and I've accepted that and I'm happy for Sean.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
I don't think I was ever in consideration. I can
tell you that I just don't think I ever was.
I think she's got a little fun bunch she runs
with and that's it felt the fun. Yeah, they get
together and talk about brunch and just like say mean
things about you and I.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
I'm just have edged do you think of this poor
woman who's like getting these requests to do it?

Speaker 2 (42:09):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (42:09):
Another next, like she's like the Harvard administration.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
For Oh I heard he? Oh? I heard, I heard
he writes his damn in the snow without his hands.

Speaker 3 (42:18):
Eh an am radio station a podcast.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
I bet he can't even spell Bellini's I have a
quick story for you about traveling here at the camp. Uh.

Speaker 3 (42:30):
You know I went back to Syracuse. We only mentioned
it a few times on the show today. I love
Laborty weekend. I did my draft. They had a lot
of great times in the Capital region and also in
the central New York area over the last few days.
But uh, I don't know how did I handle this?

Speaker 2 (42:45):
Right? Oh?

Speaker 3 (42:45):
Would you consider yourself? I know you are an animal person,
right yeah? Just not just yeah. Uh So here's my
situation I had. I came back Sunday, two sister in
laws both live in the camp, but a region, my wife,
my two young sons, both under five years old, and

(43:06):
three chickens.

Speaker 2 (43:08):
What you have three chickens so like like still alive
or ready to be eating?

Speaker 3 (43:14):
Well, I don't have the chickens, So what happened was
not only was I driving my.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
Sister Okay, what car were you driving?

Speaker 3 (43:20):
We were driving a twenty twenty four Honda Odyssey thanks
to our friends at Mohawk Kanda. And you had three
live chickens in the os I think there was three.
There might have been two. There might have been four.

Speaker 2 (43:33):
You know.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
I think a long drive maybe started three two two chickens.
I don't know why I thought there were three. There
was two chickens.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
So you had two live chickens in your minivent.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
Well, here's the problem I started. My wife told me
on the ride back, like, hey, we're going to bring
back my sisters and the boys, obviously because there are
children and also chickens at all. What where are we
getting chickens? How are they getting here? How are we
transporting them? Why are we transporting them? What is going
on with the chickens? So my sister in law now three,

(44:01):
live in the Capital Region. She has a farm, she
just recently bought a house, roosters, she has chickens, She
has a bunch of farm animals. They wanted two of
the chickens from Syracuse to get to Albany, Okay. So
sure enough for two hours. Those chickens, in a safe container,
traveled back with us. They were quiet the whole ride.

(44:22):
I was surprised. I did not realize how easy it
was to transport chickens. They're good, their healthy life is good.
I just was so caught off guard of you need
to transport these chickens across New York State today.

Speaker 2 (44:33):
This is the most Corey from Greenwich you've ever been.
You you were? You're Is it legal to transport chickens
from Syracuse to Albany. I don't think I didn't cross
state lines?

Speaker 3 (44:44):
I I did not. The problem. The almost problem was
was that I was the last one in the vehicle,
so like everybody else had been packed because I had
to get picked up somewhere else. So what I got it.
I just assumed the chickens would be in the trunk, yeah,
the back of it. No, right, they were not. They
were right in the sliding door. So I opened it
up and banged two chickens. At one point I did

(45:04):
forget they were in that spot, so I moved like
the kid's bag on, Ah, don't put it there. Why
there's chickens underneath.

Speaker 4 (45:11):
Ah.

Speaker 3 (45:12):
The chickens are fine. The chickens are fine.

Speaker 2 (45:14):
But are they fine? I think so.

Speaker 3 (45:16):
I didn't see them come out of the They're fine.
I don't need nasty e mails.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
But the chickens. What are the chickens names?

Speaker 3 (45:23):
Honey mustard is one chicken, Olive is the other?

Speaker 2 (45:27):
Chicken?

Speaker 3 (45:28):
Mango? I think you said there's only two chickens. Oh,
which one's traveled with us? I know there's a honey
mustard in an olive, in a mango. I don't know
which two of those three were in the box though.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
This is crazy to me, but they're not like at
no point are you, like your neighbors don't have to
worry about like chickens making noise and stuff. Nope, this
is not It's not a Tommy Godz thing. This is
a sister law thing.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
We are testing out everything that can travel in this
odysty now in lass, toddlers, chickens. I'm not an animal.
And by the way, so this was not a they
didn't bark or pluck or whatever. No, he's chicken snake.

Speaker 2 (46:06):
At least now, we don't do with that. Sean Martin article.
Put it right under those chickens for the next ride out. Dude,
your sister laws are the weirdest, Like there's such a
different because like, like all right, and I don't mean
like none of them are. They're all individually different. But
but like the one is a Vegas showgirl, I think.

Speaker 3 (46:31):
I think she's retired.

Speaker 2 (46:32):
But yes, well okay, but she if you looked at
it right now, you w and be like that girl
is not a Vegas show Girl'd be like, all right,
what's up? Uh? And then one's got a farm yep.
And then the other one is dating a home free
guy who's stays in your backyard from time to time.

Speaker 3 (46:46):
Dating is a label, but yes, yep, and oh they
don't do labels. At one point, about ten years ago,
you nail in this. This would have been a reality show.
You had the wild one, the party one, the one
that enjoyed plants too much, then one green plants yep,
the nerdy one, the mom of the group, the musician.

(47:07):
This was a reality show. And this is what I
live with my daily life.

Speaker 2 (47:10):
How many of them now live in the Capital region,
including my wife.

Speaker 3 (47:15):
Four of the six.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
Where are the other?

Speaker 3 (47:18):
One is in Durango, Colorado, and the other ones in
Saint Johns Berry, Vermont.

Speaker 2 (47:26):
But since you guys moved here. The other three have
migrated this way chicken like.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
Some would say, right then, the chickens migrate together.

Speaker 2 (47:32):
I don't know. I think chickens migrate to deep friars.
I think it's where they usually.

Speaker 3 (47:37):
Oh gosh, that just reminded me speaking about that. That
might have been the worst part. I probably shouldn't have
led with this now thinking about it.

Speaker 2 (47:44):
Did you get chicken on the way hill?

Speaker 3 (47:45):
You sure did? Would you Pelly's chicken tenders?

Speaker 2 (47:49):
Did you show them to no?

Speaker 3 (47:52):
I think that's bad karma, isn't it? Isn't that bad?

Speaker 2 (47:55):
Chickens are the dumbest things on the earth.

Speaker 3 (47:57):
That's rubbing it into a chicken's face. You're pounding down
the town. One is named honey Mustard after the honey
mustard you're dipping the sauce in.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
I mean, they're chickens. Chickens are not smart.

Speaker 3 (48:09):
That's bad karma for me. I'm gonna feel that at
some point you don't care. I believe in this, the
ying and the yang, the karma.

Speaker 2 (48:16):
You don't care. You don't care. I heard that that's
what KGB from time Gingen. Thanks. You shouldn't need chicken
tenders in your chickens.

Speaker 3 (48:24):
I never really trusted her KGB first off initials.

Speaker 2 (48:29):
I know what they were up to.
