Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Lavaking guys on ninety five nine Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
We are joined by the coach for Columbia football, Coach
Preston Coach, you get a big matchup coming up this week,
taking on Bert Hills Boston Lake. It's gotta be a
unique juggling act when you're at your level where you're
gotta do the job at the school, you got to
coach the guys, you gotta do the stuff. You got
to talk to idiots like us. How many balls you
(00:26):
got in the air right now?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Huh. Well, I'm currently on the road from my day
job as an elementary pee teacher in the district, on
my way to the high school to the coaching football.
There's a lot going on. You get used to it,
you learn to enjoy it. I mean, I love what
I do, so it's not really a chore when you
enjoy what you're doing. Takes up a lot of my
time and a good time, and it's for the kids.
So I'm happy to do it.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
For those who might be hearing about your program for
the twenty twenty four season for the first time, take
us through some of your impact players whose names you
might here get called often for the upcoming matchup on Friday.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yeah, we have a really, really talented and and proud
returning senior class. These are guys that I brought up
my first year as the varsity coach from the JV
squad as sophomores. Chris Carter junior is the first one
I would say. He plays all over the place. We
just call him an athlete on offense. He carries the ball,
he catches the ball, it's all over the place returns
(01:20):
for us. He's a stud. On the offensive line, we
have Anthony Landy and Tanner scottra on our weft side
of our line. They're really talented kids that work really
hard on our offensive line has worked so hard this
offseason to get to a level that we really can
compete with everybody on At quarterback, Dylan Maychick, He's a
returning kid, a senior, terrific athlete, duel threat, can do
(01:40):
it all. And then at the receiver position, we have
Cayden Carrey and last but not least, Gavin Balalla, who
plays all over the place on offense. He's an outside
inside receiver, another senior for US, also probably our most
talented all around defensive player as well. He's number nine,
so a lot of guys that can go make plays.
We've really taken a lot of pride in this thing
up since since me and my staff took over, and
(02:02):
I'm really proud of the kids who have put the
work in and kind of gotten us to the point
where we feel like it's time to go compete for
bigger and better things each and every year.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Coach Presolis and Coach I hear you light up when
you talk about the guys, like is it do you
have a plan, a scheme, a style of ball you
fit them into, or are you forced to adjust because
of guys who are just playing athletes.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
I mean, we have a system, but it's high school football,
like you talked about the first question was juggling everything
at once. You have to be able to adjust your
system to what you have. We're fortunate to have some
really good athletes in our program right now, but it
changes year to year, and having a system that's flexible
with your kids is really really important. We have that.
I'm both offensive defense. It's a kudos to our assistant
coaches and all the guys that work in our program.
(02:44):
So we feel really comfortable. Our kids are really comfortable
with what we do, and it's just about getting them
the ball and then go make places. It's all about
the kids.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
When you're scouting out your opponent for this Friday night,
what stands on to you about that team who's going
to be facing off against you.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, burn Hills is notoriously very good in our section
in the class, as they've wanted a bunch of times.
It's a program that year in and you're out, is
always competitive. Their identity from ris the outside looking in
is up front. They're always good in the offensive defensive
line in the trenches, which I believe is where you
have to be good to compete year in and year out.
And so we're well aware of that, and so it's
(03:19):
coming up with a plan to hopefully neutralize that and
do the best we can do compete with them at
that level. And then obviously, like like I said, hopefully
our athletes can find some space and make some plays.
But so much respect for a coach Devanas over there
and what they do Coach Shell before him, that's a
well oel machine. Every single year they come back with
a good team and it tocrude us to their program
and the work they put in.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Thank thanks to our friends at Stewart's. This is our
high school football game of the week. We are doing
it here on Fox Sports twenty five, nine to ninety
Columbia versus Burn Hills Boston Lake, Columbia getting the love
here on this Thursday. Dish again Friday throughout the season,
but Thursday different here is we're airing this conversation having
so much fun section dude, this could be a conversation
we have a lot of hopefully throughout the fall. Here
(04:00):
back about Section two and coach, I think you're the
first agend of the opportunity to offer this up Section two.
Across New York City, there are so many talented players
and so many talented schools. It almost feels like the
Capitol Region football players get underrated when we talk about
the good football players across the state. Have you seen
it over the last few seasons of how good the
quality of football is here in the Capitol Region?
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Oh, I mean absolutely. I'll go as far back as
the late two thousands.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
I was.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
I'm the son of a football coach. My dad coached
for over twenty years and my grandfather before her. Wrenstler
Small School, Class C, Class D and they had a
ton of talent back then along with the guys they
played in teams like Cambridge, like Greenwich. Then I went
out to Courtland where I was a student assistant at
a GA there and seeing the kids come from section
to that play at that level and everyone says, oh,
Division three. Unless you come out and see the athletes playing,
(04:50):
you really don't know how talented they are. And then
being a coach myself here Class double, A, Class A,
we played a Class D team or B team and
Rabino last week with a ton of talent, it's all
I mean, you stay alone where that's where obviously we are.
It's a gauntlet of a schedule no matter who you are,
and you're in and you're out. A different team is
on the top. But everybody's competitive and it's a kudos
(05:11):
to the amount of good players we have in our
section and the work they all put in. I'm really
really proud to be a Section two coach and represents
Section two.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Hey, don't forget that's the national champion. Courtland State Red
Dragons is a hoar.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
I was there, that's right.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Give love to the Red Dragons.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
One of the greatest nights of my life. I was
out there with Coach fits at that game. Unbelievable. One
of the best players on that team with a section
two kids, Paul Burgess from Greenwich.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Listen, coach Preston, if you need somebody to come teach
your offensive line to be Turnstiles Gos can help out.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
That's that's a shot at Hobart. Is a D three
guy like I got in love for D three. Coach, underrated, underappreciated.
You mentioned Cole When I hear D three in schools
like Courtland and Hobart and RPI in Union. We won't
say a.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Shot at Hobart A shot I know what it was.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I know we won't stay to school with the eye.
But there's someone good things going on there. That's awesome
to hear that story. Uh, coach, we appreciate your time.
We know you're super busy.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Levic.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
We got to get coach out of here. He's got
to prep for the game and everything else going on.
So absolutely well coach, best of Locke.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
We we're pulling for you, but we also have to
pull for you know, burn Hills. We have to we
have to be fair, but we're fans and we want
what a great game everybody healthy and if you happen
to have more points than the other team at the end,
we won't be upset about it.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Awesome, Thank you guys for having me, Thanks for putting
some suspending some light on our program. Our kids work
really hard, so we're we're proud and happy to do it.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Can't wait for Friday, so excited for coach and the team.
And we've of course Matthew Bob has said that we
need to talk to both teams. We talked to the
home team coach on this part of the deal and
speaking of prepping and the home team joining us right now,
are you the general manager, the shop manager? Okay, shop
manager for Stewart's right now is Molly with us? And
(06:56):
Molly I was telling guys before you came out here,
so I lived not far from here for a little while,
and this was the domus at domssit domisit Stewarts because
if you didn't stop here and you drove past it,
there's nothing good like It's like the desert after you
get past here. So, uh, you run a great shop
and we really, we really appreciate you. This is the
perfect place to get you know, packed up before the game.
Maybe have some waters or whatever in the parking lot,
(07:18):
and then maybe celebratory and food and everything on the
way home.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
Yeah, we have a little bit of everything, whether you
need to get like the pregame snacks. Food. We have
hot dogs, easy cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
So I'm going inside.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
And you see to think, great mix of people. You
see families, you see sports fans, you see younger pop,
everybodys stopping in order to the Stewart's and having a
great time.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah, it's a great location because you're right here on
the turnpike. And like you, I remember, I remember before
it was here. It was it really it changed the
way because you know, the gas, the quick stop. Everybody
knows how great Stewarts are. What is the thing that
people is it? Is it the cider donuts? Right now?
Is that the thing people are most crazy about?
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Cider donuts. We have new donut holes too, kind of
like lunch that we're selling. So those are really good too.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
See all right, so you knew, I don't know if
you've noticed from my swimmer's build. I'm aware when the
cider don't Okay, you can laugh all it's Molly obviously
works way harder than me. She's a great shit all right. Well,
so so when people come on through here, is it
any like ice cream sales? Milk club? What do we
got going on?
Speaker 4 (08:22):
So right now we're doing double punches on our Milk
Club cards for winning best Milk in New York State
at the same air and we also have our half
gallon sale coming up in a few weeks as well.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Can we dump a gallon of milk over God's head?
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Exactly?
Speaker 2 (08:36):
How do I tried? I actually I don't know.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Yeah, that's fine, if let's go.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Massive. That is to win that award at the State
for you know, that's my stopping grounds growing up down
the street from the State for a boulevard, Like, winning
that award is massive. What an awesome thing you guys
could to celebrate in twenty twenty four.
