One to one point five. YeahFM Madison's Classic Rock with Queen on this
two for Tuesday. Also Tuesdays Reservedfour Beyond the Studs with their friends over
at Legacy Exteriors, their owner JoshGowitz. He joins us not in studio
today via the telephones, Josh ison vacation. How you doing man in
an undisclosed location. I'm doing great? Were you? I'm doing great myself.

(00:22):
When you vacation, you have togo to an undisclosed location, don't
you because you're so famous now everybodyknows you. Yeah, that's it.
Ah, Well man, let's talkabout the weather here and not you know,
specifically meteorologists terms, but what itdid to people's homes across southern Wisconsin
this past Friday night to severe stuffreally hit our area. I mean,

(00:44):
I live in the far eastern partsof Sun Prairie. Sirens are going off,
it's in the basement much of thenights. And then I was talking
to listeners yesterday Josh who live onthe north side of Madison, and they
were saying they were still cleaning updamage yesterday. So this stuff was pretty
crazy this past Friday night. Solet's talk about specifically what you do over
add to a legacy exteriors when itcomes to this storm damage. Right,

(01:07):
So what should people be looking for? I mean, obviously after a storm,
you're going out, you're cleaning up, but you should also be inspecting
your home. What are some thingspeople should look for. Yeah, I
think what this storm did for ahome has just put them to the test.
Um. You know, there wasstraight light winds of I think seventy
miles an hour. We had reportsof baseball type hal in areas, and

(01:32):
then to top it off with massiveamounts of rain, yeah, which which
we haven't had that much rain thisyear, so the ground is extremely hard
and um, you know I putour basements to the test. I'm sure.
Yeah, yeah, So I thinkit's it probably caused some damage in

(01:55):
a lot of different areas. Youknow that kind of wind m can you
know, rip up, sighting, riffuff roofing. Um, you know that
much water can test our gutter systemand put stress on that and then and
then if you did have fail orwin and it could damage our roof.
So there's a lot of different areaswhere it could damage our home or weaken

(02:20):
our homes. So what we cando at Legacy Exteriors is we offer free
inspections. So if you think youpossibly might have had some sort of damage
to your home, you can makea phone call to us. We will
send somebody out and we will fullyinspect every area home to make sure that
you are in good shape and therenothing needs to be done. But if

(02:44):
there is something that needs to bedone, we will take pictures of everything,
bring it to your attention. Wecan help you with the claim process
with your insurance and we can walkthrough all those steps with you. So
that's a little bit about what wecould do with Josh Gallants, owner of
Legacy Exteriors, on this Beyond theStuds Tuesday, talking all about that severe

(03:05):
weather that hit our area this pastFriday. Let's talk Josh a little bit
about dealing with insurance companies and theclaim Sometimes people like me, we don't
speak the language that needs to bespoken to insurance companies when we're seeing if
we have, you know, damagethat could lead to us make an a
claim. And that's kind of whereyou guys over at Legacy Exteriors can really
help people out. Yeah, Ithink we do a very good job at

(03:29):
that. Obviously, we have thesame. We work on the same computer
system as far as filing claims asthey work on when they're giving out their
estimates for repair, So we understandeach and every line item. We understand
if there's light items missing, andwe will help homeowners get back to the
escape they need to be in priorto that storm and make sure that everything's

(03:52):
being done that needs to be doneon that given hole. Yeah, and
also I think it's important every timewe have you on right after severe weather
to remind people about you're gonna havepeople probably canvassing your neighborhood, going door
to door who are saying they cando this work on your home for you,
whether it's a new roof, newsiding, new gutters, whatever it
may be. But it's really important, as we always remind people, Josh,

(04:15):
to do your homework, because thereare these storm chasing businesses that go
door to door to our neighborhoods herein southern Wisconsin. Some of them may
not even be here. They don'thave a physical location here, which doesn't
really speak to like a long termif there's an issue with the work they
do, where the hell are theygoing to be when you need them?
No, nothing says local like apeel box. So I'll joke in a

(04:39):
side, Yeah, you definitely wantto pick a contractor that's gonna be not
only going to be here now,but in the future in case there were
any issues that come up or anywarranty claims that would come up, that
the company is going to be hereten years from now and able to take
care of you and walk you throughthat prob just if needed. I mean,

(05:00):
hopefully you never have to go throughany pressss like that again, but
if you do, you want topick somebody that's gonna it's gonna be here
for the long haul. Yeah, you really do, and you know we
don't have to run through all ofyour credentials again. Over add Legacy Exteriors
Actually pretty recently we did an episodeabout that kind of the homework people should
do before they choose an exterior company. You can find that at WYBIFM dot

(05:25):
com or on your website, Jossas well Legacy dash Exteriors dot com.
But again we're talking with Josh Gawitt'sthe owner of Legacy Exteriors. Quickly,
Josh, I want to touch ontiming all right, how much time do
homeowners have to report, you know, damage to their insurance companies to make
claims because people may not see theeffects of what we saw Friday night,
you know, on their home rightaway. So what's kind of the timeline

(05:47):
on that. So usually it hasexpression date on getting the work done,
So that's gonna have been on yourinsurance company and your policy itself. But
I would say a lot of peopleare in that got to have it done
within the year of the storm range. Okay, But so I always tell
people, if you think you've hadsome sort of storm damage, there's no

(06:11):
reason to wait. Get an inspectedand be sure, and if it is
damaged, you know, then wecan start that claim process, and which
is not a fast process. We'llmeet the adjuster out, we'll schedule that
up, meet them out there,go over your the home together, and
then it takes a few weeks forthe estimate to get back to you and
then read over that, make sureit's all good, and if then any

(06:35):
changes need to be made, wemake them. So it's not this quick
turnaround process by the time you needto have that work scheduled and done.
So I always say don't wait.Yeah, And I mean, I think
that's important to note too, becauseas we've talked about, you know,
if you think there's an issue withyour rope, if you think it happened
with the severe weather we had Fridaynight, have someone come on and look

(06:57):
at it. You know, Itell Legacy Exteriors two two one, three
thousand, because John's we've talked about, especially with the roofs. If there
is an issue and there is aleak, you're not going to see that
in your inside your home until thedamage is pretty extensive, right, So
you want to make sure you getthis checked out right away. Yeah.
I mean, in some cases it'sgoing to go through so much installing,

(07:20):
whether it's wood and insulation and drywall, by the time you see it inside
it maybe it's sick in a yearfor it to get there. And how
much damage has it done on theinside of that home that you didn't know
about, that just accumulated for thelast year. So yeah, I don't,

(07:40):
I don't, I don't. Thebest thing to do is have an
inspection done that way, you knowfor sure. Um and if our guys
come out and say, you know, you're all good, no damage is
done, then at least you havethe peace of mind and their free inspections.
So it's sure that doesn't hurt tohave one done. No, it
does not. And not everybody offersthose free inspections. And you know,
some other companies will say it's goingto be in free inspection and then they

(08:03):
come out and then it's just reallyaggressive trying to sell you on having them
do the work for you. It'snot going to happen at Legacy Exteriors,
right. Jostle's kind of quickly runthrough that process. What the sales process
well with us? Well, justlike quickly right, So you know,
if people think they have storm damage, you're gonna come out, maybe not
you personally, but someone from yourteam at Legacy Exteriors. They're gonna walk

(08:26):
the roof, they're gonna look atthe signing, they're gonna do whatever,
and then you're gonna give them whatyou think should be done in the home.
I mean it's not gonna be Hey, you need to sign a contract
right here right now, because Icame out and look at your home.
Well, I think about it thisway, Ben, You you've done this
process with us as a customer,so you thought you had hail damage,

(08:48):
had us look at it. Weactually determined that you didn't have hail damage.
But what the problem was was youhad a lot of granule granule or
release on your rough so it wasdefinitely time for you to have a new
roof. Unfortunately it wasn't due tostorm related damages. Yeah, but we
took pictures. We brought it toyour attention, because not everybody's comfortable getting

(09:11):
up on that roof and showing themselves. If they are, we're more than
happy to walk that roof and showthem everything firsthand. But if if they
don't want to get up there,we will take a lot of different photos
of the damage or no damage andbring it to the homeowner's attention than or
attention, and that way we canmake a plan after that, whether it's

(09:33):
you know, no plan at all, there's no damage, or yes,
we should get insurance involved and startthat claim process and then we can walk
homeowners how to do that. Yeah, zero pressure. I never felt pressure
from you at any time throughout thatfree inspection that you did in my home
about Hey, you gotta go withme over at Legacy Exteriors, you know,
which I really enjoy because I hatehigh pressure sales situations. It's one

(09:56):
of the reasons why I don't likegoing to buy a new car because I
I always feel like somebody is justtrying to push this or push that on
me. But anyways, that wasJohn Getway for always doing that at the
car. You know, you haveto hustle into that car that you want
to look at. Your wife hasto say a board or they just shoot
you that look and you know, time to go, you know, yeah,

(10:20):
right, No, I hear you. I think I think this is
a relationship the contractor and a homeowneris a is a relationship of trust from
both sides. And so you andyou're gonna want to do business with somebody
that not only is reputable, butthat you just feel comfortable with. Um,
So it could it should be.Um, if you have damage of

(10:43):
some sort of it should be aninterview process of when you pick, You're
like, I just I want todo business with these guys. I want
these guys to do my role.Um. It should not only be just
reputable and local, but somebody thatyou feel a connection with. Yeah,
that is Josh Gallwitz again, gangowner of Legacy Exteriors. If you think

(11:05):
you have some damage to the exteriorof your home from this recent severe weather,
we saw this fast Friday night.Give Legacy Exteriors to call my friends
free inspections. It does not hurtto have them come out and look their
number two two, one, threethousand website as well Legacy dash Exteriors dot
com and johsh You guys do morethan roofs, siding and gutters as well.

(11:26):
Right, you got a lot theguys do over at Legacy Exteriors,
whether it's ducks or decks. Oneam I saying ducks. You've got ducks.
You got to decks. You alsodo three season, four season,
sound rooms, life rooms, pergolas. What else did we cover? Windows?
Of course it's out on the outsideof your home. More than likely

(11:46):
we do it. There we go. That's a good way to sort of
put it all together. Thanks forsaving me there, Josh. Anyways,
join the rest of your vacation,my friend. We'll talk again next week.
