One to one point five IBYA yF FM, Madison's Class sig Rock.
We are now joined by a specialguest excited to have this guy in the
line today. It is Brandon Taylor. He is back in Madison. You
may have already seen him on newscastnightly newscast. He should say over on
our TV partner, Channel twenty sevenw KOW Brandon, welcome back, my
(00:22):
friend. Oh it's exciting to beback. Thank you, thank you,
thank you for that warm welcome.Yes, you are welcome. You know
I called you my friend. I'venever met you, but at some point
I'd like to buy you a beeror whatever you enjoyed at some point,
please spot chal. Yeah, we'refriends. This community is welcome. So
yeah, I already know what myorder is. Man, perfect man,
you're just getting back to being aWisconsin I but we should mention too,
(00:45):
you know, if the name isfamiliar, and if you've been watching the
five, six or ten o'clock newscasta Channel twenty seven and you're like,
hey, Brandon Taylor, I feellike I know him. I recognize him
from somewhere. Brandon, you usedto being a Channel twenty seven for a
number of years. Yeah, Iwas on twenty seven Wake Up Wisconsin from
twenty fourteen to twenty eighteen and reallyfell in love with this community and really
(01:07):
immersed myself in this area, inthis community, and loved it so much
that when I left, I actuallyfrequently visited at least once or twice a
year because I made really lasting relationshipsand friendships. So when the opportunity,
you know, several months ago cameabout about moving back and the evening position
opened up, you know, Iimmediately jumped on it because it felt like
(01:29):
a homecoming up sorts. Yeah,I bet it did, because you know,
I guess I'm always for I wasborn and raised here in Wisconsin,
So I guess I don't know reallywhat it's like to you know, move
here whatever. But I feel likethis community, this area of Wisconsin is
so welcoming, you know, Yeah, so welcoming. And the only reason
I left in twenty eighteen was anopportunity opened up in my hometown, in
(01:51):
my hometown market. And you know, because you, like you just mentioned,
you're a hometown guy. We inthis business, we always want to
serve the community that helped raise us, that helped eight guys that help help
us grow, and so an opportunityarose for me to go back to my
home market, my home television station, and to work for a few years.
And I'm so thankful and so gratefulbecause that was during the pandemic,
that hide a pandemic, and soI was able to help my parents and
(02:14):
my grandmother who was living at thetime, navigate that and was able to
spend the last few years of mygrandmother's life. You know, we would
be able to go to dinner andlunches together. So I'm blessed for that
opportunity. So, like I said, when the option came open to move
back to Madison, I jumped onit. Yeah, and I mean too.
I mean, I guess I liketo ask people who are in the
media this question when the pandemic happened, what was that shift like for you?
(02:38):
Because I know for us here,I'm the radio side of things.
We some people broadcast everything from home. Others still came into the building,
but we were in different parts ofthe building. Wasn't that just so weird?
Oh? It was so weird,so weird. You know, I
was on morning, So I wasdoing mornings for nine years before I made
the shift. To evenings. SoI was still doing the morning show back
(02:58):
in South Carolina, and so manyof my colleagues were home, they were
remote, but I was the soleperson that was coming into the studio every
day, and at that time ofthe morning, again, nobody on the
roads, nobody on the building.I really was. I felt an isolation,
you know, nobody was out.So it was an interesting period.
(03:19):
But you know, for so manypeople they worked remotely and work from home,
and I unfortunately never had that opportunitybecause I was going in, going
in every day. The news mustcontinue. I'm right there with you,
Brandon too. I was coming inevery day, and I'm with you.
It was weird just being out onthe roads and all of that stuff.
Fun. I'm glad, fingers crossed, hopefully that has all passed us now
as we move into or we movedthrough twenty twenty three here, but we're
(03:42):
chatting with Brandon Taylor. He isback with our TV partners, Channel twenty
seven w KOW, part of theevening anchor team. You'll see him with
Amanda Noggle and a few other anchorsas well during the five, six and
ten o'clock newscast. But Brandon doingsome homework on you. I read this
on Channel twenty seventh website, andto me, this is really important.
(04:03):
I coached youth football for a numberof years, like thirteen years and one
a Key, so I had twelveand thirteen year olds, and I really
enjoyed the coaching, if you will, but also getting to know these kids
and hopefully bettering them in their lives, you know, from whatever sort of
advice I could lend to them. But I read that this is something that's
(04:23):
really near and dear to your hearttoo. Yeah. And you know what's
so funny, you said that youwere working with young people in want Key.
I bet we actually worked with someof the same young people. Yeah.
I've worked with young people, youknow, all over the country.
But you know, when I washere in Wisconsin, I attend Blackhawk Church,
and so I worked with several oftheir young people in home groups,
in their high school youth ministry program, and just to be able to pour
(04:46):
into those relationships and just to beable to see planting those seeds and to
see them grow and to now thoseyoung people who I had when they were
at fourteen, fifteen, sixteen arenow you know, out of college,
young adults starting, you know, life, getting married. It's just it's
wonderful to see. Yeah, youknow, if you just spend a little
time with young people, if youpour into them, if you listen to
them what they can do, andto watch them grow. So it really
(05:09):
is something to fascinating. But yeah, I always say I was a child
and a teenager who was rough aroundthe edges and people poured into me.
So I feel like it's my dutyto get back. Yeah. No,
I'm with you there too, AndI think what's key is what you just
said. A lot of the youththey just want to be heard, and
if you take the time to actuallylisten to them, it makes such a
difference. It really does. Indeed, indeed it Doug my friend. Yeah,
(05:30):
I talk with Brandon Sailor again. He's back Channel twenty seven w ko
W Evening anchor five, six andten o'clock reports. No, Brandon,
Also, I feel like I wasspying on you. I wasn't. I
was doing my homework for this year. Everybody. Yeah, it's okay.
I don't want to creepy out anythinghere. But Brandon's got a dog,
it's a golden doodle. And Iwas fascinated by the name. The name
(05:51):
of the dog is Monroe Madison. How did that come to be? Monroe
Madison? Yeah, a unique nameto Monroe was actually a family name.
You know. I had an auntwho I loved who passed away several years
ago, and her name was RoseMonroe. So that was fitting. But
then Madison. Again, I lovedthis city. You know, this all
came about real quickly, I'll tellyou. With serendipitous I posted a picture
(06:15):
probably last summer of the terrace cheersand I said, you know, hey,
I really miss Madison. I missedthe city. Somebody from w KOW
reached out and said, hey,we have a position open, and that's
how all of this came about, you know. And now for me sitting
and having this conversation with you,So yeah, that's where she got her
name from. So Monroe's a familyname Madison because I love this city,
love this community. But it fitsso well because there's a Monroe right here
(06:36):
in southern Wisconsin. So yeah,Monroe Madison. That's that's my eighty pound
golden doodle. There you go,perfect fit for the stay in Wisconsin.
But I gotta ask you too,Brandon, with your co workers over there
at Channel twenty seven. It lookslike you guys have so much fun,
whether it's with Amanda, whether it'swith John, with Lance, whoever it
may be, that just seems likesuch a fun environment to be in.
(06:58):
Yeah, yeah, it really isa great environment. You know, Amber's
somebody who I knew when I workedhere back before in twenty fourteen, and
we had done some specials before, but I was on the morning show and
she was on the evening show.So she's just somebody who I always wanted
to work with. We were dearfriends and hung out in social settings,
but never able we're able to workprofessionally together. Lance is just an all
(07:19):
around great funny guy. You knowhis sports reports. Used to be our
sports anchor for several years at twentyseven, so have had the chance to
work with him. And then JohnZiggler up. He is everything you see
on television, this man is inperson. He's just an all around great
funny guy, keeps you on yourtoes. You never know what he's gonna
say. And then even sports directorcollege at Carl Moratto and then our new
(07:40):
five o'clock at anchor Sarah Massler.Donor I mean we are lucky at twenty
seven to have such a robust eveningteam and evening lineup and with a lot
of great talent and a lot ofwonderful experience. So yeah, I'm just
blessed and fortunate. But they letme on the team. Man, here
you go, we gotta get youdown to one of our Badger football Tell
it's for a home game because Johncame last year for one of them in
(08:03):
Wow. I yeah, John iseverything you just described him as. He's
a very exactly and I'm right therewith him. So let's go. I'm
ready to go. I love it. I love it. So I brought
a Badger of football for a reason. You hailed from South Carolina. So
are we a game Cocks fan ora Badger fan? Well, you know
we're gonna have to be both. We're gonna have to be both. Always
a Badger fan, but you knowI am a diehard Carolina fan. Garnet
(08:26):
and black runs runs deep. Sostill gonna support the Game Cox, but
definitely supporting the Badgers as well. That's a good political answer, Brandon.
You're well trained. I know mypeople, I know the people who are
listening. I love it. Thatis Brandon Sailor. He is back to
Channel twenty seven w KOW here inMadison evening news anchor. He's all part
(08:48):
of that team five, six,and ten o'clock reports. It's when you'll
see Brandon and plus Brandon. Youmay know some of these places you're gonna
be off the top of your headif you want to rattle those off,
because I know you're busy kind ofmaking the rounds in the communities, kind
of getting to know everybody again.Oh my gosh, there's so many events
that we have going on. Lakethe Loop, which is which is coming
up, clean Lake, the Lines, Manona Memorial Day parades, into my
(09:11):
parade. I just so many eventscoming up. So if you see us
in your community, please come outsay hello. And even if I'm at
the grocery store, please introduce yourselfin Taylo because I'm just thankful to be
back here at home. Yeah.Well, Brandon, thanks for taking some
time today. I appreciate it,all right, thank you a friend.
