Speaker 1 (00:00):
That would be the Mountain West Football Media Days, one
final time for Fresno State, the last year in the
conference for the Bulldogs. The season starts August twenty third
in Lawrence, Kansas.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Against the Jayhawks.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
It'll conclude, at least in terms of the regular season
in the Silicon Valley on November twenty ninth against the
old rival San Jose State. First year for coach Matt Entz,
who will be here tomorrow. Today is Player's Day at
the Mountain West Football Media Days here at the Circa
Resort in Casino in North Las Vegas. I'm Paul Lefler,
joined by a former Bulldog, Cam Morrell.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Cam.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
There's a lot of changes, right, I mean, college football
is changing, Bulldog football is changing. Everything's changing. How do
you keep your head on straight?
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Yeah, it's a different vibe out here this year at
the Mountain West Media Days. Just a lot of stuff,
a lot of conference changes. School like Fresno State, who
are here this year won't be here next year. New
schools will be here. So it's just a yeah, kind
(01:08):
of a weird time I think in college athletics, A
weird time for the mount West, a weird time for
Fresno State. I think all these schools, whether you're staying
in this conference and moving to a new conference, it's
just kind of a weird time, right. You don't really
know what the future holds. You know what the immediate
future holds, but you never know when that might change
and when something else will drop and that will affect you.
(01:29):
You know, a ripple effect will happen. So it's been cool.
It's been nice to be around the mount West to
the great people who work for the conference. I think
they do a fantastic job of this every year. It's
just it's just kind of odd knowing that, hey, this
is the last time we'll be here as a member
of the Mount West Conference.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yeah, a good chunk of this conference is moving into
the new conference with Fresno State and all of that.
The dust hasn't settled in fact, Commissioner Gloria Navarre, so
hopefully we can have joined us at some point today
or tomorrow. You had our opening remarks this morning, and
you know, was asked about the legal action between the
Mountain West and the PAC twelve that's not settled yet.
(02:07):
At this point, it appears they'll be going to trial.
There are a lot of things that are swimming around,
but I think the fans really want to know what's
going to happen on the field this fall, and we're
going to be talking about that for the next couple hours.
We're with you from here in Vegas today from one
to three and tomorrow from one to three. But don't
turn off your radios at three because on Sports is
(02:28):
right after us from three to four, and on both
days he'll have a bonus content from all the conversations
that we're having here in Las Vegas. I think the
anticipation for a lot of fans too, was well, who's
going to make All Conference, which is a lot harder
to figure out these days with players changing teams constantly,
and who's going to be picked to win the league? Now,
(02:50):
I don't think there was a lot of mystery cam
as to who the preseason favorite of the Mountain West
was going to be.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
No, you know, you make a college football playoff run,
you get a buy you're a top four seed, Boise
State's going to be that team. And I mean, just
looking back, not just the preseason predictions, but you know,
the results in the Mountain West over the last you know,
fifteen years the Mountain Division is Boise State. Boise State.
(03:18):
Boise State pretty consistently, so no surprise that they're up
at the top, and rightfully so. A returning quarterback, a
lot of returning depth. The main dude's gone. Ashton Gent's
no longer there, Thank goodness because Freszlo State has to
play in this year. But still just a ton of
talent and a team that I think, under a young
head coach that they're gonna do nothing but get better.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
It's gonna be fun to watch this year without Ashton Genty,
how the Broncos perform. And of course the Bulldogs get
to pay Boise State a visit November first, on the
Blue turf in Boise Circle that one on your calendar.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
We're going to.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Talking about Bulldog football. We're gonna have a lot of
special guests. We'll get to those pre seeds and predictions
here in a moment, but just so you know what's
coming up over the next couple hours, we're going to
hear from a couple Air Force players. In this hour,
we're gonna hear live from the CEO of the College
Football Playoff, retired Air Force General Richard Clark. You're going
(04:17):
to hear from a couple of Nevada Wolfpack players, including
brock Perty's little brother, Chubba, which is not how he
prefers to be introduced, by the way, but we'll learn
a lot about Chubba and his teammate Thomas Whitty. Before
we're done today, you'll hear from the two Bulldogs who
are here, Jacob Spoemer and Alsillian Hamilton, players from other
teams as well, and again once we're done at three o'clock,
(04:38):
we'll just pass the baton to ck On Sports and
he'll have more content from here in Las Vegas. Today
is the student athletes. Tomorrow the twelve coaches from the
Mountain West will be here in Las Vegas. So here's
how it broke down in the preseason predictions. This was
thirty nine members of the media voting. Got thirty five
(05:01):
of those thirty nine first place votes. The other four
first place votes went to the team that battled Boise
State for the title last year, the UNLD Rebels, so
they're picked second. San Jose State and coach Ken Neumatalolo
chosen third in the preseason poll, followed by a Colorado
State squad that the Bulldogs.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Beat last year.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
And that will host Fresno State this year. It'll be
the first time the Bulldogs have ever played in that
big Price Tag Stadium Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins. That's
coming up October tenth. Fresno State picked fifth in the
twelve team Mountain West. How do you feel about that camp?
Speaker 4 (05:37):
I think that's kind of par for the course. You know,
new head coach, new quarterbacks, some receivers are gone. You
lost pieces on the defensive side of the football. What
is Fresno State going to be about? I mean, what
is their identity?
Speaker 3 (05:52):
I just people just.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Kind of don't know. They know that they're probably going
to sell out every home game. There's going to be,
you know, a great home field environment. They're gonna be competitive,
they're gonna play physical. But you know, how good are
they How how much talent that maybe haven't had a
chance to play because some other guys were in front
of them, who are now going to play big roles.
(06:14):
How are they going to step into those roles and perform?
So I think Fresno State being picked fifth is mostly
out of respect for the history of the Fresno State program,
the success that they've had in the mount West. As
opposed to we don't know a lot about this team,
so it's really hard for the other, you know, thirty
nine media members to really understand a lot about this team.
(06:36):
But I think that's right where Fresno State likes to
be heading into twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
It'll be interesting to revisit in a few months, so
the Bulldogs pick to finish fifth. Air Force is sixth
in the preseason prediction. The Bulldogs and Falcons don't meet
in the regular season, but we will be hearing in
just a few minutes from a couple of their senior leaders,
two really brilliant young men who are going to go
on to serve our country. Hawaii, who the Bulldogs will
(07:06):
visit September twentieth in Honolulu, is pick seventh in the
preseason poll, followed by San Diego State. The Aztecs will
be coming a Fresno right before Halloween on October twenty fifth.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Utah State picked ninth.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
The Aggies will be the last team to come to
Fresno on November twenty second. Wyoming, who the Bulldogs will
host the week before on November fifteenth. The Cowboys are
picked tenth. New Mexico eleventh in the preseason poll just
one vote more than Nevada. Who's in the basement. Nevada
will be Fresno State's first conference home game on October fourth,
(07:42):
so cam while the Bulldogs have to go to Boise State,
the preseason favorite, and they'll have to play the number
three and four teams in that preseason poll on the road,
San Jose State.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
And Colorado State. Really the rest of their.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Schedules against the bottom half of the league in these
preseason predictions that on paper like a fairly favorable schedule.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Yeah, I mean it's always going to be tough going
to Boise no matter what, especially early November there could
be some weather. You know, they do have a couple
of the top five teams on the schedule. But yes,
that's it's a pretty sweet setup, you know, avoiding air Force,
Like I think air Force being picked six is vastly underrated.
(08:24):
That team's going to be good. We saw him kind
of catch fire last year. I don't want to see
an air Force offense come into front to Fresno and
this defense have to battle them, have to battle them.
So yeah, I think this is a very nice Mountain
West schedule.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
I think a.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Very mild non conference schedule as well for the Bulldogs
this year. I know they open it Kansas, but other
than that, I don't think there are huge tests for them.
So you know, this is a schedule. I just happened
to see six and a half wins. It was whatno
what Fresno State was expected. The over under was six
and a half. So I feel like with this schedule
(09:01):
the way it laid out, I might lay some money
on that over over six and a half wins this year.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
The way it's looking.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
You are in Vegas and so am I, and we
also have the preseason All Conference selections. There's only one
Bulldog on that list. It's Alsillian Hamilton, senior cornerback, who
we're gonna hear from a little bit later. The Bulldog
players should be with us right around two thirty today.
We're also here from players from Nevada from Colorado State again,
(09:28):
the CEO of the College Football Playoff, Richard Clark, will
join us. We'll give you a quick rundown of that
preseason all conference team before we take the break here
and hear from the Air Force players. Alsillion Hamilton the
only Bulldog on that list as a cornerback. Boise State
has about half the preseason All Conference team. Their junior quarterback,
(09:50):
Maddix Madison, is your preseason All Conference quarterback. The wide
outs on that preseason team are Litreel Caples of Boise
State and a couple Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. Both Ella Ashlo
and Nick Senecle, Scott Tree Humphrey of New Mexico and
Jaden Thomas UNLV are the running backs on that preseason team.
The tight ends of Bronco and Matt Louder. The lineman
(10:11):
on that preseason team two Broncos, two Cowboys, and a
San Jose State Spartan and Piseti Lapuajo. On the defensive side,
a lot of Boise State Broncos there too. Two on
the d line, Braxton Peeley and Jaden virgin Morgan. You'll
hear from Jaden a little later on during a ck
on sports. You have linebackers from Boise State, San Diego State,
(10:32):
San Jose State, and UNLV half of the second area
of Broncos and Ty Benefield and Amarion McCoy. Of course,
the Bulldogs Alsillian Hamilton and a really good player at
Utah State who stuck around there. Ike Larson, preseason punter
is Luke Freer, one of the Air Force Falcons you'll
hear from in a moment. San Diego State had the
preseason Special Teams Player in the Year in their placekicker
(10:55):
Gabe Placentia, and the Aztecs also had the preseason Defensive
Player of the Year in their junior defensive lineman Trey White.
Maddox Madson a Boise State the preseason offensive player of
the Year.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
And as we always say, what is all that worth?
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Not a whole lot, but it's fun to talk about
Bulldogs picked fifth in the preseason poll. We'll take a break.
When we come back, you'll hear from a couple of
Air Force Falcons.
Speaker 6 (11:20):
It's Mountain West Media Days on Fox Sports Radio back.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Here in Las Vegas, the Mountain West Football Media Days.
Paul Leffler and Cam Morrell.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Cam.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
One thing I always look forward to at this event
is talking to a couple of guys in uniform. It
always gives us some perspective, doesn't it.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
It really does you think about how difficult the life
is for a college athlete. It's incredibly difficult. Everything that
you have to do athletically, everything you have to do
in the classroom, and I don't even know what percentage
of that makes up in Air Force cadets responsibilities on
an everyday basis. So it's always a special opportunity to
talk to two young men who are doing everything that
(11:57):
the Air Force Cadets are doing.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
And you know, one thing I've learned the last few
years from having a nephew who went through the academy
is there's a whole separate language for people.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Who are in that world.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
They communicate with acronyms and jargon that go over my head.
And so I'm gonna let these two student athletes introduce
themselves as they would to someone else at the academy,
and if we have to follow up and ask them
to explain some of the abbreviations, we can do that.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
So, guys, go ahead.
Speaker 7 (12:24):
I'm C one c Luke, Freer, Squadron fourteen Kill. I'm
a putner for the Falcons. I'm about to be first.
Speaker 8 (12:32):
Yeah, I'm C one C Brewin Fleishman Squading thirteen Wolf.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
And yeah, I play football as well. I'm a tight
end on the team, all right.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Cam, So you know what's he one? Nope, Nope, tell
them guys.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Cadet first class, got it?
Speaker 7 (12:46):
So freshman or cadet fourth class sophomores that third class And.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Okay, yeah, and let's see what else did we hear
in there?
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (12:53):
First D.
Speaker 7 (12:54):
Yeah, so it just does short term for cadet first
class as a first D and kill kill. So that's
a little squadron motto or whatever, like the killer cobra.
So every time you see like squadron fourteen, you see Gil.
Speaker 8 (13:08):
Every time he says fourteen, he has to say kill.
Every time I say thirteen or I hear thirteen, you
say whoof? Because we're the bulldogs. The Bulldogs sounds good,
great masko.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
I don't mind him. I don't mind him. It's a
good mascot.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
And you didn't mind beating him last year in a
game that changed both team seasons a little bit.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Yeah, before we.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Get to that, you guys mentioned your squadrons. That's something
else I didn't know until I saw it closer. You
don't only have the same squadron for all four years there,
so you guys have had to like detach yourselves from
an old squadron and go to a new one.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
How does that work for you? Guys? Like mentally, emotionally.
Speaker 8 (13:44):
It's kind of nice. Honestly because freshman year traditionally, when
we went through freshman year was really like tough and
it was more everybody was focused on training the freshmen,
and so like going to a new squad after your
freshman year was like a nice fresh start where you
can just like kind of be your own person and
you don't have all of those like freshmen like stereotypes
on you. But that's kind of changed now there's different
(14:06):
roles and whatnot with like how the freshmen get trained
and stuff. But when we were there, it was really nice.
I thought, to get a fresh start into another squad.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 7 (14:14):
We call our freshman year squad or baby squad because
essentially that's where you're I guess a baby and you're
learning everything. So in the next three years when you
really you kind of grow up and you start to
become the leader and starts, you know, supervising people under you.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
You have a little bit of like you know, some
love for the old squadrons. Yeah, more so than the
other ones that never leaves.
Speaker 9 (14:33):
Right.
Speaker 8 (14:34):
Yeah, you always got your two squads, and when you
graduate from in the one, your baby squad, everyone.
Speaker 7 (14:38):
Always asks you like one grads will always ask you.
You know, what was your baby squad and what squad
are you in now?
Speaker 2 (14:43):
I love it, and you know, we don't have a
lot of time.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
I want to talk some football, but I'm just curious
what you guys have been doing this summer, because this
is probably a nice little vacation to Vegas for you
compared to whatever else you've been up to.
Speaker 7 (14:54):
So my first six weeks, I've been in Washington, d C.
On an internship with the da DA. She's like the
Defense Intelligence Agency. I was down there for six weeks
and then I'm up here now at the academy and
running the obstacle course as a freshman. So I am
the language I'm supposed to do. I am molding them
into the leaders that they're supposed to be, but essentially
(15:15):
I am making them do get cramps and be very
dehydrated during what yea of.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
My summer was a little different.
Speaker 8 (15:26):
My first three weeks I was there, I was on support,
which means that you basically help where you're needed, and
the basics weren't here yet, so we weren't running basic training.
So support was kind of just finding what to do,
and so I just kind of specialized in taking out
the trash and so I was the trash guy.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
And so that was nice.
Speaker 8 (15:43):
I didn't work too much and the trash rooms are
really clean under my jurisdiction there. And then the next
three weeks I taught honor to the basics. So I
taught about our honor code, which it's pretty in depth,
but it's only like one sentence and then there's a
there's a second sentence that pairs with it. So I
was basically teaching them about one sentence, which isn't that
hard for the teacher, but there it is pretty intricate sometimes.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
I mean when you guys are in those leadership roles
with young cadets coming in, I mean, how easy is
football after that? Like when you go to practice and
you're doing what you do, Like, how easy is that
compared to I mean, you said you're supposed to be
molding young men right to be the cadets that they
need to be. It's football really a vacation for you guys,
(16:26):
a break for you guys from the normal routine.
Speaker 7 (16:29):
Yeah, I would say, So we have military training every
day or like classes and like military stuff about until
two every day, and then you go down to the
locker room, and it's like I remember freshman year, we'd
all be at the locker room because we're not allowed
to be in our rooms freshman year, like taking naps,
Like the whole locker room. You just see it for
an hour. You just see all the freshmen just all
laying out breaking their apps. Because we're so tiger we
wake up at five in the morning for stuff. So yeah,
(16:52):
especially it's a vacation. You're down there with your brothers too,
just hanging out doing what you love.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
We're talking to Bruin Fleischman and Luke Freer from the
Air Force Academy and CAM. When Luke described the official
jargon for what he's doing with the new cadets, did
you flash back to someone you need to send a
thank you card to for molding you into the leader
that you're supposed to be?
Speaker 5 (17:14):
Yeah? Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Playing for Pat Hill back in college was a unique experience,
Like I'm sure playing for your head coach is a
unique experience. He doesn't pull any punches, there's no sugarcoating
the message that he wants.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
To give you.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
He's gonna give you the message directly. But for all
of the pain that I went through under Pat Hill.
He really did mold me into the person I am today.
As much as it pains me to say that your
experience last year, Paul said it, your season seemed to
change when you guys beat Fresno State. Something clicked in
(17:47):
that game. What was it? What just worked? And you
guys didn't lose a game after that? And I don't
really think any even more particularly close.
Speaker 7 (17:55):
Yeah, I think we just grew up. It's you can
see throughout the season, every game we improved. Unfortunately came
in the last four games this season, but I think
that last against you guys, it really just clicked and
we grew up and we really, you know, bonded as
a team.
Speaker 8 (18:09):
Yeah, I would just say we got back to Air
Force football, and we were a young team obviously, right,
but you're not a young team after two games, three games, right,
You're experience at that point. And so I think the
big thing that clicked there is we started playing as
a team.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
Right.
Speaker 8 (18:22):
We all knew each other, we've all trauma bonded through
all the stories we've been telling you, with basic training
and stuff, and we actually started putting that together and
playing as a team. I feel like so many teams
now get transfers in and stuff, and they can have
a whole new starting eleven from the previous year, and
it takes a while to get that.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
To mesh right.
Speaker 8 (18:39):
And so that's that was our little burden that we had,
and once we got that meshed against you guys, we
started rolling from there.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Luke Ivan asked you, because it's not too often we
get punters at Mountain West Football Meet. Yeah, and you're
a rarity and that you're one of the only guys
who hopes you don't get on the field too much.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
Right too, But when.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
You're punting at sixty five hundred and seven thousand feet,
what's the biggest challenge?
Speaker 5 (19:08):
Weather? Probably, I think the biggest.
Speaker 7 (19:10):
Usually when you're at that high altitude, you have wind
and you have cold weather. Obviously we all know the
altitude helps. It goes about the bog is about fifteen
ten to fifteen percent farther, but it also hurts a
little bit of a hangtime. So it's really just you know,
during warm ups and stuff, you know, I guess changing
the drop height and everything like that, figuring out what's perfect.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
But yeah, is that is that a field thing or
is that like a calculation thing? Are you taking a
target or are you just like I'm kicking it this far,
I'm gonna pull it back a little bit.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
I'm just curious.
Speaker 7 (19:40):
There's a little bit to it depending like the putt
punt situation, Like what it's like, Am I gonna have
to hurry this punt? Like this is like a close game?
Are they gonna come after me? There's different little things
like that. Expecifally with the altitude, obviously, I try to
get a little bit more high on the ball, so
maybe I'll go a little bit farther, a little bit more
hangtime so our guys can get down there and cover.
(20:00):
But you know, later in the season and especially in
that games you're playing in the cold weather, it's a
little it's a little harder to do that.
Speaker 10 (20:08):
Yeah, just make a good punt. That's exactly catch the
ball and the other way essentially. That's it's simple, right, Yeah,
that's catch it and kick it.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
And Luke, I didn't ask you about you know what
they told you in d C with the d I
A because I figured you can't tell us. But is
that what your your future in the Air Force looks like?
Speaker 11 (20:29):
Here?
Speaker 7 (20:29):
Yeah, I'm hoping, uh as of right now, I'll be
an intelligence officer when I graduate. I'm still trying to
pass my eye test and hopefully maybe get that switch
to pilot. But essentially, if I stick with Intel, I'll
be just I'll be very happy.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
What about you, Bruin, What's after the Academy?
Speaker 8 (20:44):
I got Space Force, So that's why I get this
little pin right here. So I don't actually know what
I'm doing in the Space Force. I just know that that's
gonna be the branch I'm gonna serve in. And after
I graduate, I'll be in Colorado Spring still, and I
will have to do a training there to figure out
what actual job I do in the Space Force. But
right now I know I got Space Force.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
And did I see the Space Force uniforms we're getting
unveiled this week?
Speaker 8 (21:08):
Yep, the uniforms for all the academy. Yeah, yeah, they are.
And those are like I think we're gonna wear them
two games a year, a season, which is cool. So
those are not the apls that we normally have that
we normally have the color ones. I think we war
them against you guys last year. Yeah, so that's a
(21:28):
totally different thing. So now we'll have our normal uniforms
are blue or whites, our grays, and then we'll have
our Space Force ones which will be black. And then
we'll have the other apls, which is just the Air
Power Legacy series, a random one off per year, so
we'll have a good little arsenal. You see how easy
those acronyms just roll off there. Yeah, I have to
explain it, but there's a whole bunch of other ones too.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Well.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
I'm just thinking for you.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Since you play tight end in an offense that doesn't
want to throw the ball, yep, when it's Space Force
uniform day, do you have to go up to your
offensive coordinator Mike Theisen, one of our old Valley guys
from California, and say, hey, got to let the Space
Force catch a couple of balls today?
Speaker 5 (22:07):
Yeah, give them a little plea.
Speaker 8 (22:08):
Yeah, No, I might as go as far as just
to beg for air raid offense at this point.
Speaker 5 (22:13):
Let's convert the whole thing. No, it's it's nice, right.
Speaker 8 (22:17):
You don't have time to overthink when they do throw
you a ball, right, So a lot of other schools
you're like, oh, this is like overthinking. Then you drop
an easy catch like me, and when I get the
ball throut of me. I'm just as surprised as everybody
else in that audience. So it's a It's a hidden
gem in that sense, and I usually make the catch
because of it.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
So yeah, you know, Air Force football has this mystique
and it has this reputation, and there are certain things
that we expect, but you guys probably know things that
maybe you know outside that stereotype. Is there something or
someone you're really looking forward to seeing on the field
this year that maybe people are going to be impressed
with or surprised by.
Speaker 7 (22:54):
Opt to go with our kicker, Reagan Toobs. He's been
behind Matt Dapoor the past three years. And we all
know how the records and everything Matt the poor broke,
but Reagan's been right behind him in practice ever. Your
time Matt makes the field goal, Reagan makes the field goal.
So I'm really excited to see what Reagan can do.
I'll be holding for him too, so I'm really excited
for that.
Speaker 8 (23:13):
I got to go with Zach Juckle. He's a linebacker.
He was injured all last year with the back injury,
and he's like three months out of surgery and he's
beating everybody in sprints like it's insane. I don't know
how he's doing it, and I think he'll be one
of our best defenders, if not our best defender.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
You guys feel like the end of last season has
carried into your off season preparation and you can build
off of that to have a successful twenty five.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
Sure. Yeah, we're hoping to keep the momentum rolling.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
And you know, there's all kinds of things I'm thinking
about with you guys, and we're gonna have to let
you go in a second. I know other people want
to talk to you, but with everything that's going on
in the world, we just want to thank you for
your commitment to serving our country.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
And I'm wondering for you guys.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
I know you weren't in school when this happened, but
the whole mission to Iran, whatever it was, Midnight Hammer,
I think they called it to see what the Air
Force is capable of and to see how successful that
mission was. Is there something that you guys take from
that that maybe the rest of us wouldn't understand.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
I think really it's a team aspect.
Speaker 7 (24:16):
Obviously, what we see is the bombers and the fighter
pilots that went through there, But really it's the maintenance officers,
the intelligence officers who really put that plane together and
gave the ability for the pilots to go over there
and do their mission.
Speaker 8 (24:26):
Yeah, I would just say the plane doesn't just fly
with the one pilot, right, There's so many more people
that go into getting that plane in the air and
making sure it's aerial refilled and everything that goes into it.
So I would just say it's a team effort. And
second that thought, anything else we need to ask the
ken No I.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
Think man a debt of gratitude. I mean, really, you
guys are serving the country. Like Paul said, we all
owe ab of gratitude to what you guys are doing,
not just in school, as as you depart and get
into your career, and you know, we are pre ciate
your efforts and the hard work and wish you guys
(25:03):
the best other than when you play Fresno State. I
mean really wish you guys absolutely best.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
Other than that.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
You know, it's a it's an honor to sit here
and talk to you guys and listen to this story.
It's super appreciative of all your efforts.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
Yeah, thank you guys, we appreciate it. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
And I've got one more because maybe you don't want
to to hit on this too hard, but the schedule,
there's got to be some stuff on that schedule that
gets you a little excited. Is there an opportunity or
two that you're looking at this year that you just
can't wait to jump into.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
Obviously beating Army and Navy every year we play them,
we want we always want to win them. I think
UNLV would be cool coming down here again to Las Vegas,
and I think we play in the Legion Stadium.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Don't hit the roof.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
Yeah, yeah, that's what I Yeah, I would just second that.
Speaker 8 (25:48):
I think every game is important, but we focus on
Army and Navy because that cultural aspect. It's not just
about football fans, it's about the military as a whole.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
So well, guys, thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
See one, see Luke Freer and to see Brewin Fleischman
from the Air Force Academy.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Good luck this year.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
Thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Guess boy, it always gets you camp just to get
a taste of what those guys are made of.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
Yeah, it's wild. I mean, being a college athlete is
really really hard. It's a small part of what they do.
So I love the opportunity to talk to the Air
Force guys every time we're out here.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
And we don't want to make it too much about
Air Force, but in a few minutes we're going to
talk to a guy who also went to the Academy, who,
by the way, rose to the rank of general, actually
became the commandant at the academy, flew B one bombers
and now is flying a giant ship called the College
Football Playoff. Richard Clark will join us here shortly, but
right now, a familiar face, familiar voice, Steven Hicks of
(26:45):
ABC thirty's been here doing a lot of interviews. Steven,
you've been to a few of these things. What's jumping
out at you right now? I was asked earlier today
how many I've been to. I lost count, like five
or six maybe, And what's jumping out to me is
something I've never seen before.
Speaker 12 (26:58):
Obviously, we see the players, see the coaches. You don't
often see the parents. And Alfonso Hamilton got on a
plane and flew out here early this morning to support
his son Elzilian Hamilton, who's the lone bulldog on that
preseason All Mountain West selection team and getting the chance
to talk with him and hearing the stories of when
his son was in the portal and a conversation he
(27:20):
had with coach Ense and the program coach was trying
to build and how that starts in the weight room.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
That was cool to hear.
Speaker 12 (27:28):
And then and chatting with Elzian and the work that
he's put in in the weight room and how the
team that they're trying to build starts with physicality up front.
Jacob Spoemer echoing that that's probably have been my big takeaway.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Cool.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
I have to ask a z about that when he
joins us here in the next hour.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Yeah. I can't remember the last time I saw well
Jake Hayner's dad.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
Came one year. Oh yeah, I don't think he did
any interviews, so.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
It might have been the one year I missed this,
and mister Ayner I saw. I think Jamie otis the
linebacker from Hawaii. His parents are here, but he's a
Vegas guy, so his parents live here a little bit
different to hop on a plane and come down, so.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
That makes kind of cool. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (28:07):
Yeah, mister Hamilton says he's the grill master. So if
you get the chance to talk to a z apparently
lamp shops.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Oh yeah, that's what he really, that's what he cooks up.
That's a random grill meat. I feel I would agree.
I was impressed.
Speaker 12 (28:21):
I told him, next time you got a barbecue, you're
inviting me over.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
Do you talk to a Fresno guy yesterday? Central Central
High grad who was maybe the same height as you, right.
Speaker 12 (28:31):
A lottery pick in the NBA draft, eleventh overall pick,
centric coward. I don't know if he was standing up
straight talking to me and that's why we're maybe similar size.
But yeah, really cool to catch up with him. We'd
gone to a couple of the high school games back
in twenty twenty. Twenty twenty one, Central High was playing
the Section championship game against Bollerd lost by two or
three points. Is a really close game. But to see
(28:51):
his journey going from no offers to a Lammett to
Eastern Washington to Washington State, has a couple coffee at
Duke and then gets first round draft pick money. We
didn't get the chance to see him play at summer
league because he's still rehabbing that shoulder injury, but really
cool to kind of hear his story and how proud
he is to come from for us. Now, he's like
(29:13):
guys from outside the Valley don't get it. But that's
something that lives with you as long as you are
a professional athlete in any industry too, Like, that's something
that sticks with you.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
So that was really cool to hear him.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Zay watching Zavieworthy in high school, you knew that he
was You didn't know he was going to be a
first round an NFL drafting, but you knew he was
going to be really good and he was going to
play in the NFL. Do you remember thinking anything like that.
Speaker 12 (29:37):
No, I mean there's no way, right, there's so many
talented players from the Valley, especially on the hardwood. Looking
back now, you can be like, yeah, I could see
some signs there, but at the time, No, he's like
a scrawny kid.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
It's crazy. His evolution is extremely impressive. It's a wild story. Yeah,
there's a lot going on here in Vegas.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
The NBA Summer League is still going and that's why
Steven hit from maybec thirty was able to catch up
with Cedric Coward. One last thing on that if I
missed it set me straight. But have you ever done
this story about his other talent? What's that the custom
shoes that he does?
Speaker 2 (30:12):
No, so he paints custom sneakers.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
I my brother in law was the recipient of one
when he won his five hundred game as a coach
or something like that. So Cedric Coward all through high
school made extra money by like precise painting on these
custom sneakers.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
Cam and I are rolling over here. That's incredible.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
It's a talented guy.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
We'll have to do a follow up on that.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Stephen Hicks a man of many talents as well.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
Very true.
Speaker 12 (30:37):
Yeah, wait, you lead me into something one of those talents.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Well, maybe you have a surprise for us. I mean,
I was going to give you some golf love, but
I was. I haven't played tennis with you in a while,
so I don't know how that tennis game's coming along.
Speaker 12 (30:49):
It's a work in progress. We've been training Cam to
beat this guy. I think we're over life against Paul,
so I'll stick. I'll stick to the golf course. I
don't think i've played since the last time I played.
I did shoot a seventy three the other day, so.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
I mean, how long has it been since you shot
par it's been over a couple of years. Yeah, I mean,
seventy three is getting it done.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
We're close.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Yeah, we're close and getting it done. Hi and hiking,
visiting national parks.
Speaker 12 (31:12):
I just checked off in March. I've visited all the
national parks in California. Channel Islands was the last.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Of the nine Congratch. I still haven't done that.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
It was worth the trip out.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
You just shoot some video.
Speaker 12 (31:22):
Oh yeah, even if it's just getting on the boat,
hanging out and then taking the boat back in a
couple of hours.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
But I ended up camping out there, which is pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
What's the best one that you've been to of the
national parks?
Speaker 3 (31:31):
I mean, Yosemite has changed my life.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
I mean not Yosemite. Outside of Yosemite, I think Yosemite
is probably everybody's number one.
Speaker 12 (31:39):
I mean a cliche to say in the valley, but
Sequoia National Park is more than the General Sherman Tree.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
It's more than Moral Rock.
Speaker 12 (31:47):
I mean, I go on a lot of those backpacking
trips and to go into the back country there. I
did the High Sierra Trails, starting at Crescent Meadow, ending
Mount You're supposed to end it Mount Winning. There was
a fire, so we had to figure out another exit
out Cotton Pass. But just the remoteness of Sequoia and
King Canyon National Park is it's just I haven't seen
(32:08):
anything else like it in the country. And the three
of us here at this table chop a lot and
to get away and kind of reset your mind like that.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
It's pretty nat and it's definitely better hiking in Sequoia
National Park than here in Vegas, where the last hike
the three of us did together almost resulted in one
of our deaths.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
We almost lost the Hicks off the off the mountain
trying to take a selfie with I don't know what
was it, twenty mile an hour, win, thirty.
Speaker 12 (32:32):
Hour, I felt like that one.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
We're here at Mountain West Football Media Days. Richard Clark
from the college football Playoff expected to join us here
any moment. In our next hour, we're going to hear
from Alzillian Hamilton and Jacob Spomer from Fresno State. You'll
also get to hear from brock Perty's younger brother, Chubba,
who has won the quarterback job for Nevada this year.
Some Colorado State rams are coming up right around the
(32:57):
corner that you'll hear their perspective from as well. Stephen,
before we let you go, what's your feel for this
new look at Bulldog football and what you know Fresno
State fans can look forward to for those six home
games as fall.
Speaker 12 (33:10):
You said Jake Caner, and I don't think it'll look
like the Jay Cannaday is slinging the football around.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
I think it's going to start and.
Speaker 12 (33:16):
End in the trenches, and that's offensive and defensive lines.
The physicality that we're hearing getting talked about in the
offseason and Bryson Donaldson going into year two and the
step up that we anticipate a freshman who's sophomore making
like that with what he was able to do as
a freshman. I think it'll be run first and then
you know, take what you can get on the passing end,
(33:37):
and you take what you can get on defense. But
I think it's going to start with that run game.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (33:42):
The Bryson Donaldson hype train starts today. Today should have
been All Mountain West selection at running back. He'll be
an All mount West first team running back at the
end of the season. Bryson Donaldson will.
Speaker 12 (33:54):
And that's that is the list that you want to
be right, the postseason, not the preseason.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Correct, And I think probably would have been here talking
about it if he were twenty one years old. But
there is a threshold that you have to meet to
participate in the event in this facility. A lot of
upperclassmen talking to us to that, and you know, for
reference for folks who don't know what we're talking about.
Last year, asht Genti had to have his own media
event elsewhere because he wasn't allowed in here. But everyone
(34:22):
knew how special he was and he certainly went on
to fulfill that. Yeah, hey, Stephen, thanks a lot, have
fun talking everybody here.
Speaker 12 (34:28):
Thanks guys, you are the best in the biz, and
talking with you it means we're one that closer to football.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
Seince Kevi, let's go let's play tennis one of these
days to do it, or go on a hike. He's
taking a hike right now. That's Stephen Hicks from Channel thirty.
General Richard Clark is coming up here in just a moment.
Again if you missed it earlier, Fresno State picked fifth
in the preseason poll. Boise State, of course, everyone's favorite
(34:53):
to win it. The Broncos got thirty five out of
thirty nine possible first place votes and only one Bulldog
on the All Conference team, al Zillian Hamilton, the senior
corner Cam. Is there someone that you thought might have
been on that preseason All Conference list that wasn't?
Speaker 4 (35:11):
I mean I would I would say Cam Brock is
a guy that I expect to be, you know, on
that first team at the end of the season. It's
tough because he went out with an injury last year,
so it's hard to really, you know, expect media members
from around the conference to understand the type of football
he's going to play coming back this year. That's probably
(35:31):
number one, but it's tough. You know, this this team
lost a lot of talent to the transfer Portal Phoenix
Jackson would have probably been a first team All Mountain
West defender, Jalen Moss, maybe first team All Mountain West
wide receiver, but just not a lot of proven players
who have done it for multiple years. And that's really
what you have to have to get on this preseason list.
(35:55):
You really have to have multiple years of being productive,
of being a starter, and then you know, the year
before having a really really nice, nice lead up. So
Nah Fresno State, they're more I think a lot of
the players who are going to play big roles for
them are in kind of approve it mode, and you know,
it's gonna take them getting snaps. It's going to take
(36:19):
them kind of working into the roles that they're expected
to play, and guys just don't really have a lot
of experience. So not not a surprise. Like I said,
I think Bryce and Donaldson will be a first team
running back at the end of the season. The flashes
that we saw from him last year as a true freshman,
the way he's developed in the offseason, he is a
(36:39):
special running back. Special running back. Haven't seen anybody with
the type of vision, acceleration, physicality that he possesses since
I've been doing the broadcast with you, Paul, and I
think that goes back to twoenty twelve, right, it's a
long time, so you know, he has this special, special
(37:00):
skill set and I'm super excited to see him not
just come into his own in twenty twenty five, but really,
I think, really, I think uh work into an offense
that is going to highlight his skill set as much
as possible. And I'm excited to talk to the guys
later about Bryson Donaldson a little bit, what they think
(37:21):
about him, the work he's put in, what they expect
him to be in his sophomore year, because you always,
you know, year one to year two and anything is
always a pretty big leap. So you know, expect a
lot out of Bryson Donaldson from that true freshman just
trying to get your feet wet as a college football
player too. Now, hey, the offense is centered around your
(37:42):
skill set. You're expected to be a leader in year two.
We need you to drive this offense forward. I'm excited
to see him kind of take that leadership role and
run with it, so to speak, run with it, run speak.
You're the best at not I don't know how you.
I don't know how you we those in all the time.
You do it, and I don't even think people realize
(38:04):
that you do it because it's so smooth, use their
words to segue into something else. Do you work on
those or is just off the dome every time?
Speaker 1 (38:11):
You're putting a lot of pressure on me right now? Yeah,
it's like a safety blitz right here. That's what I
love working about working with you and Pat right is,
you guys are so good and you're so real that's
what it is. It's just being present and paying attention.
If our heads are somewhere else, then we're going to
say stuff that doesn't make sense, and we might do
that anyway, right, But I think we're all pretty in
(38:35):
tune with each other and just hanging out with you today.
I haven't seen you in months, I don't think, but
it feels like it's football season again, and I know
I'm excited about that, and our whole fan base is
so general. Clark was supposed to be with us about
ten minutes ago, and they keep telling us he's on
his way, but there's another interview that he's doing that's
run longer than expected, So we apologize for that. That's
(38:58):
something that happens here at Mountain West Football Media Days.
We've had a lot of conversations with folks earlier today,
and we'll be bringing you some highlights of that throughout today.
A reminder that we're with you again tomorrow as well,
when the coaches will be here in taking center stage
here at Mountain West Football Media Days. And I don't
want you to miss really valuable content. So maybe we
(39:21):
will go ahead and take this break here and hope
to catch up with General.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Clark on the other side.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
I think we might also get to talk to a
couple of Colorado State Rams before the end of this hour.
We're going to hear from your two Bulldog representatives in
our next hour. With you till three when we pass
the torch to c K and great to have you
with us on Fox Sports nine seventy and Bakersfield today
and thirteen forty in Fresno.
Speaker 6 (39:45):
It's Mountain West Media Days on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
Back here in Las Vegas with Camorel.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
I'm Paul Leffler, and we're joined by a couple of
Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The Bulldogs will open conference play at
Hawaii September. And we're joined by Pofeli Ashlock, wide receiver
from the Houston area, and jami Otis, who's from right
here in Las Vegas. Don't they call this one of
(40:11):
the Extra Islands or something like that, Ninth Island?
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Yes, sir, you put that on your resume now you're
from the Ninth Island.
Speaker 13 (40:18):
Nah.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Well, guys, you know Timmy Chang's been there a few
years now. Cam remembers him as a player. He was
pretty prolific. Now he's fourth year as a coach, it
kind of feels like time to make it happen. What
tells you two that this is a breakthrough year for
the Bows, I.
Speaker 13 (40:35):
Say, in the players, it's really just a player. How
how all the players are coming together, all the bets
are coming together, you know, I mean, especially being under
Timmy Chang for four years. All the lessons and everything
he has instilled it us comes out of that comes
out and on me just getting talking to the new guys,
it just comes out, and he on me speaks with
them fluently without even thinking about it. So it's lessons
(40:57):
that he gives us that we've had in the back
of our head that we don't you know, you know
what I mean. It's just an unconscious competence, is what
he said. So, yeah, it's been amazing with Timmy Chang Man,
especially for everything he has done for us and the
love that he gives us has been amazing for sure.
Speaker 11 (41:11):
I think just seeing the growth from the whole aspect
of the team, to the coaches, to even the staff.
It's just you know, from year one frol coach Timmy
before we I got here as a freshman and then
seeing him to my freshman year to now it's just
we're going through the growing pains understanding what he has
to do better as a coach and we have to
do better as a team and to be better players.
(41:32):
So I think now that we're in year three, everything
is flowing together. You know, we know the dudes and
the dunts of what we can and can do, and
now we know what to do and to succeed really,
and he's put us in a lot of positions to
make that happen this year. So I feel like year
three that's the magic year.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
The brotherhood, right, what it is? What is that all about?
I mean, Timmy Chang embodies that. I'm sure every day
man competed against him. He was a fantastic player, but
born built on the island. What's the hit all about?
Speaker 13 (42:01):
The broadhood is the team man. Nothing nothing ever breaks
and bends the team man. It's no one outside the
team can come in and tell us what we can
and can't do.
Speaker 9 (42:09):
Honestly, that's really just what it is.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (42:12):
Our brotherhood is a it's a it's a unit, it's
a unity, and especially it's just a team man, especially
just showing love to each and one of us because
we're all not from Hawaii. You know, we're all from
mainland and all over to mainland too as well, especially
from being from Texas. We had some teammates that was
from Florida, so you know what I mean, we all
come to one boiling pot, you know what I mean,
and it gets to experience all of all of each
(42:33):
other at one setting and especially doing what we love football.
Speaker 9 (42:36):
So it's amazing.
Speaker 13 (42:37):
And yeah, that's just that's just one thing that I
just really really enjoyed, especially being in Hawaii, you know
what i mean, getting to experience everybody, you know what
I mean, and just call everybody my brothers, you know
what I mean, the ones that come through. That's really
the broadhood, you know, I mean, these are friends from
brothers for life, you know what I mean. Uh, going
outside of college, having a baby back and call these
you know I mean, call some of my boys that
I know they will come up, pull up, you know
(42:58):
what I mean, say what's up, congratulated, babysatur you know.
Speaker 5 (43:02):
Things like that.
Speaker 9 (43:04):
It's amazing. Man. I'm really I'm really close with this team.
Speaker 11 (43:07):
Man.
Speaker 13 (43:07):
I'm really enjoying this team man, that we built, you
know what i mean, four years.
Speaker 9 (43:11):
So it's an amazing thing. It's an amazing thing for sure.
Speaker 5 (43:14):
For sure.
Speaker 11 (43:14):
I mean the brotherhood is just it's just one family.
I feel like the moment you put that black and
green on, you're a brother for life. And sure that's
it's just a brotherhood, you know, another word for it
on the mainland, as you said, as brothers. But once
you put that black and green on, you know there's
no going back. You know, now you're in a family,
and we're family. It comes loyalty and that's that's the
thing we were always in for life. And you know
(43:35):
this has nothing to do with football, the brotherhood and
it's just uh, just unconditional love that we have for
each other. You know, we have brothers that aren't here
with us, you know, or we have brothers that aren't
playing for us anymore. But the moment they put that
black and green on, we we went through pain together,
we went through ups and down. So rather for life,
the moment you step in that facility, man, you're a
brother and you know it's it's for life and there's
(43:56):
nothing we won't hold nothing against you.
Speaker 2 (43:58):
Never.
Speaker 1 (43:59):
It's been a while since Presno State has made a
trip to the Islands, but that's gonna be the first
conference game, and you guys will be pretty comfortable because
that'll be game five for you. But the fourth of
those first five, that's right there at home. And I
think the home environment for Hawaii has changed a little
bit in the five years since Presno State last made
it appearance. There, you give us a sense of what
(44:20):
the new game day atmosphere is at your place.
Speaker 11 (44:23):
Yeah, for sure, Game day is real, surreal honestly, just
you know tc ching the way it's set up, it's
we're out to the community and you see people, I
mean our partner structure overseas, the overseas the field, so
you have people in the parkner structure hanging over the gate,
you know, all the local aunties and uncles, you know,
walking around with the kids.
Speaker 9 (44:42):
We have a lot of festivities around.
Speaker 11 (44:44):
So it just feels a real like family atmosphere and
a lot of people they're real passionate about. Uh So,
you know, once we come out and you know that
fire starts burning and the drum starts shaking at that's
when it all that's when it all boils down, and
that's you know, after that is no going back. But
you know, it's a super it's a super great vibe.
I mean, you know, pre warm up, we love to
Hawaiian music. Some teams are a little freaked out by it.
(45:06):
They don't know if we set them up. I mean, honestly,
that's just how we get down. We play Hawaiian music
all the time, play all a local gym. So it's
just a great vide.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
That's one big o'hana there.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
You know, the last time that we were there, the
band for Hawaii was allowed there, but there were no fans.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
And so there's really no tailgating.
Speaker 5 (45:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
Yeah, but cam we've seen.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
Tailgates at uh at the Iloha Stadium, Yeah, is where
everyone was trying to pull Pat Hill into their tailgate
to get something.
Speaker 5 (45:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (45:35):
I mean, you know, Fresno State Hawaii, it's been a
rivalry for a long time. It was super competitive when
I played that. I mean we were zeroing too against
Hawaii when I played there, and we were ranked in
the top of twenty five. So fans really respect Pat
Hill and what he was able to build at Fresno State,
and it really we would walk around Aloha Stadium before
a game. He'd get offered beer, he'd get offered barbecue,
(45:57):
he'd get offered everything because people we are so appreciative
of what he did. Butfully, I'm really curious. I know,
I know we're short on time, but how easy playing
receiver in Timmy Chang's offense?
Speaker 9 (46:10):
How easy is.
Speaker 4 (46:11):
It for you to get catches? Man?
Speaker 9 (46:13):
He may, Hey, it's freedom, man, he gives us freedom.
Speaker 13 (46:16):
That's really what it is, especially for him being a
quarterback too as well, Like he already knows that's for
the quarterback. It's it's being together, you know what I mean.
Like we we make a decision, the quarterback trust that
we make the right decision and throws the ball on
timing too.
Speaker 9 (46:29):
So that's what it is.
Speaker 4 (46:30):
Man.
Speaker 13 (46:31):
It's really amazing that we get to sit there and
do these things that we can't really do in most offenses,
you know, I mean, have four different route options of
based off coverages, you know what I mean. So it's
really it's really think. But it comes with reps, it
comes with work, it comes with practice. He comes with
you know, just knowing watching film, knowing what the defense
is doing before you do it. So yeah, man, it's
it's amazing. And when you when you're on it and
when you know what you're doing. Man, you're gonna we're
(46:52):
gonna rack up some catches for shows. So it's an
amazing thing. It's amazing thing for Shure.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
Well, we're looking forward to seeing you guys. They're September
twentieth conference opener. It's gonna be a ton of fun
and let's do it. I'm sure your families come to
some of those home games. We'll have a lot of
Fresno State families that maybe they haven't even been to
Hawaii before, and they're gonna be told all the tourist
trap places to acture. You guys have some inside info.
So I'd love to have each of you give us
one spot that someone should hit that maybe only the
(47:19):
locals or the the UH bridehood really knows about.
Speaker 9 (47:23):
Giovanni Pastrami.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
Man, y'all go.
Speaker 13 (47:25):
It's Waikiki, so it's really easy for y'all to go
on me if you're.
Speaker 9 (47:28):
A hotel in Waikiki. But with Giovanni, pushtromi. Man, get
some good Italian food. Man, they have everything up there. Man, Honestly,
you get some good pizza, you know what I mean.
Speaker 13 (47:37):
It's amazing. I go up there and get some pizza.
Just talk to Giovanni sometimes knowing the owner, you know
what I mean. So it's great vibe, it's a great
atmosphere to be in and very touristy, very tourist appreciative.
Speaker 2 (47:47):
So it sounds like there should be an NIL deal coming.
Speaker 6 (47:49):
Alright, It's Mountain West Media Days on Fox Sports Radio.
