Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, it's five minutes with Jillians. So we are
set in the timer and I'm so sorry once those
five minutes are up, I don't want to be rude,
but the interview's done.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Then you're going to kick me out.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
I don't want to hear out. But all right, five
minutes on the clock starting out, we're here with Fits
from Fits in the Tantrums. Thank you so much for
talking so much for having me. So new album out, Yeah,
new song out okay okay okay, which when I first
saw the title, I thought it was going to be okay,
okay okay.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
But I know you.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Guys, and that is definitely not the vibe. Okay. So
tell us about the new album. Is it the same
Fits in the Tantrums that we know and love.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
I mean, there's always elements of us. But you know
what's crazy part is that this is our sixth studio album.
So for us, it's almost like we started this making
this record and looking at all of the catalog of
everything we had done, all the different styles that we
tried to incorporate into the band, and we kind of

(00:54):
almost had like a full circle moment where we went
back to the beginning a lot of motown soul influencers
appearing on this record that comes from our first album,
and yeah, it just kind of wove all those influences.
And you know, six records in, we got nothing to
prove but to have fun making a record.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
And that's what you, guys, are, Your fun, your joy.
And when you are going out on stage or even
when you're recording something and you're not feeling that joyful
that day, how do you get in the right mindset?
And that could apply to anybody and anything in life.
How do you get in that mindset to have that joy?

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Well? You know, I mean that's the incredible power of music,
is that even those days when I'm not feeling it,
by the time I'm singing the song, it's forcing me
to feel it. And that engagement with the crowd because
you use the word that I love the most, which
is joy, which is what we truly try and bring
every night. And so when we go out on stage,
we might be like six shows in a row, exhausted,

(01:50):
literally crawling back stage to try and get to stage,
and then we get out there and the energy we're
getting from our fans, it's so incredible. Anybody that's seen
us knows. We like a church of music vibe. We
like to interact, get high, get low, shake your hand.
It's a lot of energy and that energy people expect
now from us, but they also bring it, and so

(02:12):
many times in the middle of tour when we're just
so exhausted, their energy is the only thing that lights
the flame to get through the show.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
And when you are embarking on this new tour, what
song from the new album are you most excited to perform?
And then what song do you guys like performing in
general your favorite from a past album.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
I'm excited. Man on the Moon obviously is the title
of the album, and I love performing that song. It
just brings me so much joy. There's a track on
the album called Withdrawals, which is more of a soulful
crooner heartbreak song, and I love that one. And then
maybe one of my favorites is a song called Umbrella,
which is it's.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
A banger and does the crowd get the claps right
in a I can make it hands clad.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
I'd say eighty five percent, And then you can see
the people that are, how shall we say, rhythmically challenged,
but I really try and lock it on them. Like
this is the beat, get on it.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
And I am a huge Disney fan. And you have
a song in the new World of Color Happiness for
the seventieth celebration.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
How did that come about? Well, you know, we've had
a long relationship with Disney over the years, and they
approached me and they said, would you be interested in
doing a song singing a song for us for the
for the what's it called again?

Speaker 1 (03:37):
World of Color?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
World of Color? Thank you? And so I went in
the studio worked with them. It was incredible, and then
I finally got to see the actual light show water show.
It's it's pretty magical. And I got to take my
kids for their birthday as payment, so it was great.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Did you cry like I did during World of Color?
I cried everything you do I usually do.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
I mean, give me a good commercial with like a
dad and his son and I'm teary eying this instantly.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Well on Star one on one three, we are two thousands,
nineties and today, so I have to ask what is
your favorite song from the nineties and the maybe favorite
song from the two thousands. Is there a boy band
you love.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Or I mean I wasn't mad at some Backstreet Boys
songs back in the d U and then what's my
favorite nineties song? So fresh and so clean clean?

Speaker 1 (04:29):
That's a good one, is that even ninety I don't Well,
we'll just take it.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yes, we'll take it.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
And any more about the album that you can tell
us a little if we haven't listened to it yet,
do we listen to it in order?

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Absolutely? We really, you know, in this single world and
just playlist world, we really tried to go the opposite
direction and make an entire record. We worked our butts
on trying to really not accept anything but greatness for
every track on the album. It's we had quite a
few heated dis discussions about the sequence to try and

(05:02):
find that experience that people could sit and listen to
the whole thing from top to bottom. The songs are
not that long, so it's a quick thirty minute listen
through that album. But I implore people too, I'm so
proud of it. I really did not hold back anything.
We just did what we wanted to in the way

(05:23):
that we wanted to, and it turned out so special
and I'm so proud of it.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
When you have those heated discussions, how do you guys
eventually come to a conclusion, come to an agreement as
a band.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
As with everything, compromise. You know, being in a band
like being in a marriage. You know, there are some years,
especially when we're on a record cycle and when we've
had hit songs, where we're so busy that I will
see my band members seventy percent of the year and
see my family and my wife thirty. So we've gone
through all the highs and lows. Sixteen years in, we've

(05:56):
been to therapy as a band, we've worked everything out
in The magic thing is that we're all so secure
and comfortable with where we're at and just profoundly appreciative
that we still get to do this. We're still on
a record label, we're still making records. We still got
a song on the radio, and that's it.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
