Speaker 1 (00:00):
If if you have care CV talk station by the time,
swishing you a very happy Monday, trying to make it
so anyway. He has a lot of bad news going
on in the world, but also some good news. And
you know me, I loved Sport Veterans Causes and I
always appreciate what the work, the work that CINCINNIVA is
doing for the American veteran. Todd Sledge returns from the
Cincinniva to talk about some of the things the VA
can do for you. Welcome back, Todd Sledge. Thank you

(00:21):
for what you're doing for my veteran friends.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Thanks Brian, Thank you also for all the support that
you give us and helping our veterans understand what we
can do for him.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Least I can do, man, the least I can do.
And one of the things I wanted to do is
go back to July twenty if you had a Hamilin
County Veterans Appreciation Day, a great American ballpark had all
kinds of employment opportunities since ANAVA and staff were there.
How did that go and what did you learn from that?

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Todd?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Yeah, it was a great partnership. Thanks to Hamilton County
for doing what they did. At Great American Ballpark. We
saw close to roughly over two hundred veterans came by
our VA section between the healthcare benefits and the VBA benefits,
which is the compensation side. And you know what, really, again, Brian,
it just goes to what you and I have been

(01:09):
doing together for several years now, is the amount of
veterans that are not engaged and their benefits to me
is still very striking, and we hope that I'm going
to continue to keep working with you. I don't get
the word out to get folks to do it, but
the folks that came by were just, you know, normal reasons.

(01:30):
I'm not going to say excuses. Well, you know, my
service wasn't as important as others. I wasn't injured in combat.
I don't want to take things away from other people,
and same things that we hear. But that was a
great event talking to people, getting them connected. Some of
them very surprised about how fast and efficient and easy
it was.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
It is fast, efficient and easy, and it's right there
for them to take advantage of. And you're not taking
advantage of another veteran by taking your benefits from the VA.
Do you have any percentage your numbers in terms of
the percent of let's say Hamilton County veterans or tri
state veterans that are enrolled versus not, so you get
a kind of a picture of how many people have not.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Taken advantage of their benefits.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, well, roughly, Brian, Actually, I've been working on an
effort right around that. Roughly, I am being told that
there's about one hundred and forty five, one hundred and
fifty thousand veterans in the fifteen county captionment area that
we serve, which is parts of northern Kentucky, southeast Indiana,
and southern Ohio. And so when you look at those
numbers and compare them to forty thousand are only enrolled

(02:33):
in the Cincinnati VA, there's there's a big gap there
that is a veterans who could use the healthcare benefits. Now,
on the compensation side, I'm not really sure what those
numbers are. But on the healthcare side of things, we
have a lot of groom to grow, and there's a
lot of veterans out there that should be taking advantage
of the things we offer.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Well, and you properly use the term healthcare as opposed
to health insurance. How can explain them the VA or
the veteran members out there listening community, how v A
health care services improve their overall health and well being.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Well, when you think of the core things as we
get older, that unfortunately, I'm just gonna say, fall apart
or starts to diminish. Your eyes, Yes, you know your eyes,
your ears, your knees, you know your back and in
some ways too, maybe some of some just general mental health.
And you know we do we do everything that anybody

(03:27):
else does in Cincinnati. But those core things are things
that we serve as veterans very specifically because of their
service in time, you know, being around heavy machinery, gunfire,
the wear and tear on the body that goes with it.
And I always say, who better knows how to serve
veterans well than us, She's veterans every day with those things.
But those core things, you know, free you know, you

(03:50):
can get free hearing age, you can get glasses.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
We got a full eye center.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
You know, the orthopedics that we work with, you know,
with your knees and your back and your feet. But
I don't if you've tried Brian recently or needed to,
But trying to get a dietary appointment in.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Cincinnati is tough.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Oh I did not wear that. Oh yeah, it's very tough.
I mean, feet care is unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Well, that's something that seems to the American veteran could
share as a health ailment. So considering how much time
most Americans at least form my perception, did you know,
on their feet, marching around and doing their job?

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Well, and then also too, there are certain ailments that
veterans seem to just be more aligned with than one
of those being with diabetes. You know a lot of
times if your diabetes is not manson, well you've got
poor circulation which leads to your feet, and you know
it needs to be properly taken care of because everybody
wants to walk.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Everybody wants to get around, get around independently.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Let's pause from what we'll bring Todd Sledge back from
the Cincinnati the eight to talk about how veterans can
apply for VA healthcare benefits and other benefits of taking
advantage of something you earned. Here's a consequence of your
service to our country. After a word for odor, eggs
and eliminating all the odors that you can find in
the world the exception of the stench of politics. That's
what odor eggs. It is all about. Smoke, mold, mildew.

where the local retail outlets sell their products. Odor Exit
spelled od O, r xit no e odor Exit.

Speaker 3 (06:00):

Jason Earhart on fifty five KRC, the talk station.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
About Kerse, the Talks station in Charrisee does care, and
we certainly care about the American veteran, and so does
Todd Sledge from the CINCINNTI DA is on the program
right now to t and he's already talked about the
types of healthcare services that the veterans can get through
the VA, mental health, even pedietary, hearing aids, vision assistance,
kind of stuff that most everybody faces. And of course
the American veterans struggles with a lot of different issues.

(07:20):
But the CINCINNTIVA, being run by veterans helping veteran does
exactly the types of issues that the veterans deal with
each and every day, which is one reason alone that
it's worthy to contact the VA and sign up for
those benefits you earn. How can can you explain, please,
Todd Sledge, how veterans can apply for VA healthcare benefits.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah, there's a couple of different ways that are very
convenient and self you know, can be self initiated or
we can offer a lot of help. But what veterans
want to do is call our eligibility office. That number
is five one three, four seven, five, six four nine
nines four seven five sixty four nine nine.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
It's a direct dial number. You call that.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Eligibility numbers officers on the other end of that will
help you walk through the enrollment process. Or you can
also visit your county Veteran Service Commissions. You know you've
got Hamilton County, Butler County, Claremont County, Warren County. Also,
you know Brown County, any county in Ohio can help
you do that as well. Are these people all there
to assist you for free and help you fill out

(08:19):
the proper paperwork to get you enrolled.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Sounds simple now that any eligibility requirements for VA veterans
to enroll, Because I have mentioned and I got in
trouble for one. One guy came up to me a
listener log. You said, you keep telling people that it's there.
You earned it as part of your salary, he said,
but you know, I want to sign up for VA
benefits and apparently I make too much money.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
There are some limitations, aren't there? Yeah, there are.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
There are some cap limitations when there comes to income
if you're not awarded a service connected disability or a
non service connected disability compensation, which is part of why
we want people to go through the proper channels of
our enrollment so they know exactly where they fit. But
the minimum requirement, Brian is twenty four secutive months of

(09:01):
service with a honorable or general discharge. That's the minimum
requirement that that folks need to meet. And if you
meet that, you should call and navigate with us in
our eligibility office about where you fit upon other things,
and some of them if you make too much money,
it's some perfect reason why you should be filing a
claim for either you know your hearing or file acclaim

(09:22):
under the pack that toxic exposure stuff that we've talked
about on the previous shows.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Absolutely well, they see in that.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
That's a great point to make because to the guy
who told me that he still may qualify under a
different program like the PACK that because you can trace
a current medical condition to something that you got as
a consequence of your service to the country. So in
spite of the fact that the general VA benefits might
not be there in some are are there in some
limited capacity, there are other avenues for coverage.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
That's correct. You know.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
I've talked to several veterans who were told in the past,
you know, they made too much money, they hadn't applied
for something, and they enroll under the Packed Act. Now
they've some of them were awarded zero percent disability or
ten percent and some you know, in all fairness, he knows,
some veterans will say, well, that's not really a lot
of reward. But I'm like, well, now you have health
care benefits you didn't have before if you decide to

(10:14):
use it. And it's these are benefits. These are supplements
to if you have insurance, which is another thing. If
you have private health insurance, you should be also stockpiling
your VA benefits with your private health insurance. It's a
it's just the best way to shop for the type
of health care things that you need.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Well, in addition to contacting the VA directly the numbers
you provided, they can also reach out to the local
Veteran Services commissions as well, because they all help with
getting VA benefits that's correct.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Well, the one thing that the Service Commissions can do
besides help you enroll in via healthcare, they're also there
to help you file for all these claims. And I'm
mentioning right, it's the Packed Act or different types of
stuff and it's free and these guys are all certified.
They go through proper training. Then you know how to
file the claims. They're basically your case manager that will
help you navigate that process and also follow up with

(11:01):
you when you get different letters back or if you
have questions.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
And each of the county says they're in Veteran Services Commissions,
so they're there for you. Now I know there's an
event coming up. You wanted to tell my listeners and
the veteran my veteran listeners at least and their families
about it's coming up on August twenty fourth.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Yeah, August twenty fourth down at Sawyer Point. This is
our third year partnering with the Association in the United
States Army for an event called Operation Thank You.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
It's completely free. Well, it's free parking.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
There are some food trucks there which the only parson
is the parking's free, the events free. We have a
lot of great music entertainment. One of those happens to
be one of the most popular bands in Cincinnati, Naked
Karate Girls. So if you're naked, yeah, yeah, they're they're great. Yeah,
they're They're playing for us with Dan Varner band. The

(11:47):
Varner a Netherso band opens up with us and then
Naked Karate Girls and then Noah Smith. But we will
have all kinds of VA services. They are different boosts.
And if you're interested in rolling and you want to
get out and listen to some music at a park
and Cincinnati, we will be there to help you get
direct you directly enrolled and also answered questions that you
have about your benefits. Now there's also fireworks, the night Man.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
Look, we're working to get food, fireworks, and an event
you can share with your fellow veterans and their families.
Sounds fantastic. August twenty fourth operation Thank you at Sawyer Point.
I hope we get to talk about that as we
get closer.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
To the event.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
I know Joe will put that information on my on
