Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning show with d J Foreign. It's saut in Morning.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Custon's number one for hip hop jam in ninety four
or five.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Hi, everybody, Good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Foreign very nonchalantly mentioned this to you and I yesterday son,
So now I got to dig and get a little
bit more in focus.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
It's pretty cool. You're going to speak at a high
school today.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Yeah. Yeah, career day today for my son's high school.
I think this is the third year I might be
doing this. Yeah, I think the third and fourth year.
But yeah, this morning I'm going to goal at West
Hide High School and go just you know, talk about it.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Career do you talk about this one?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Or DJing Djane radio podcasting, which I feel is all
kind of in the same. It's anything to do with
a mic or entertainment, you know what I mean? Okay,
and then kind of dib and dabble a little bit
into music industry, the music business because you know, these
kids are fast, especially these young kids. Everybody wants to
start a podcast, you know what I mean, the relationship
between a podcast and radio things like that.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
What is your advice to somebody who wants to start
a podcasting? What do you tell these do it?
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Do it? If you it doesn't matter what you're talking about,
grab a mic and just talk because there's there's a market.
There's billions of people in the world, and there's a
market for anything that you want to talk about. There's
people who eat live snails online and as cargo and
they get millions of dollars, you know what I mean. Yeah,
But if you if you've got something, be yourself and
(01:21):
just talk about it, and you will get traction consistencies
that will be yourself so important. Yeah, if you try
to be fake, it's not going to come across right, Yeah,
which try to be something that you're not.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
There's a lot of that, yeah, I mean even in
our business now, we come across a lot of people
who aren't themselves. And I struggled that in the past.
But the minute I found myself and it sounds stupid,
but like I feel like that's when I started to
be good.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
And a bigger thing for me, a bigger mission for
me was we're doing career day, especially on the radio side,
is because kids don't listen to radio, yeah, you know
what I mean. So I'm trying to show them, like
now it's cool to listen to radio, you know, a
lot of it.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Because essentially we're like a live podcast, which is crazy
if you really think, if you really think about it, yes,
because these people that do these podcasts, they're so edited
and they are made to sound completely perfect and all
the things like we don't. Unfortunately, we don't have that
opportunity because ours is just live.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Yeah. Yeah, so you know, trying to encourage them to
listen to radio a little bit more, you know what
I mean. And like I said, podcasting is a big thing.
If you want to start it, don't don't be out
here just doing extra nothing just to be viral, because
eventually it runs out. You know.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, are you in an actual classroom or is it
like a picture a gymnasium and you're at a table
and people could come.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Out and talk to you or you're now they actually
have me in classrooms, but this year I think I'm
in the gym because they expect them a lot more
kids to show up, like an assembly.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Well, every time I go, you know, whenever they hit
there's a DJ in the building, the kids are excited, like.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
They you hop on the ones and two.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, I have people wrap I've had kids over there
wrapping up like you want to DJ, come DJ, you
want to you want to kick Spencer? You know, someone
walk up to the hospit bars I here's the mic. Yeah,
just keep it clean.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
What do you feel like when you do that?
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Sin? This is the third year is like a couple
common questions you get Who are.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
The biggest celebrities you've ever met? That's I think there's
no other question other than that. I mean other than
you know, they don't ask about schedule. I'm trying to remember.
They might ask about just you know, how it is
to be on air. But the biggest question who have
you met?
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yea, yeah, yeah, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Have you met? And they start naming like big have
you met jay Z? I mean you met Drake? I'm
like nah, Unfortunately do they come through the hallways and
like those guys are too big to touch rate you? Yeah,
but they love it. They love it, you know, it's entertaining.
They get to cut loose. I feel like everybody else
who goes there is all kind of like, you know,
presentation and you know this is all you build a
(03:37):
roof right now. I'm just kind of like the guy
who gives you a little lucy loot. You know what
I mean. Yeah, you get to listen to Sexy Red
Real for real without the teachers complaining.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Right, yeah, seriously, No, it is interesting when you go
because I would go to Northeastern sometimes too, they would
have me come to the media classes and talk about
just like our day to day. But but then for
me they would ask a lot about even being on
the Red and being on these reality shows to now
this and like the evolution and what social media. My
(04:05):
mother it's funny because her and I were just talking
about this yesterday. She says that it's funny to see
the evolution of me being on the radio. She's like,
because when it started, every time you got recognized, it was,
oh I saw you on the real world.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
She's like, you never hear that anymore.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
She's like, because of social media, people come up to
you and they're like, oh I hear the show. I
follow you on Instagram. We weren't I think we were
in Target and somebody came up and instead they listened
to the show. But it is funny to see that
because when I was first in radio, nobody, no one
knew you because social media wasn't big like that.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
When I first started.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
I've seen the evolution start from when they were Big three,
there were movies, it was radio and TV. Now it's
evolved into so many things. I think the iPhone changed
everything like that. So now when you're doing like just
the just the media parts, it's radio, it's podcasting, it's
all stuff. But it's social media too, so it's added
another element. But now when people hear something, they want
to see it too at the same time time, So
(05:00):
if they hear us on the radio, they want to
see what we look like. Now there's that gratification. But
back in the day, you just pictured what you thought
they did.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah, you you got to experience it all. I feel
like you got a few years of radio.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Being like the end all be all.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Like that's when we talked to Billy Costa and I
hear some of his stories. My mind is yeah, because
you know, at a certain time radio was I mean,
Ben Affleck was sleeping on Billy's.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Ca Yeah, that's crazy.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
There was a time when I was traveling from work
maybe ten times a year. That means going to the
to like movie premiere, premiere is being put up in
these amazing hotels, great experiences.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
That has changed.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
But I will say right now. I think it's the
best time for any I think like back then there
were so many gay gate keepers keeping like talented people away.
Now with the world of social media and podcasting, we're
seeing people's talents and seeing people who you never thought
could do what we do do these.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Things and that's amazing And there's a ton of yeah,
and that's kind of what I'm going to speak about today.
It's like, you know, before it was one this one
that Yeah. Now it's like they could be one hundred
of y'all and y'all could be talking about the same thing.
It's just about how do you deliver this? What do
you talk about? And you can become I mean, Kai
Sana is not the biggest YouTube in the world. We
hear about him all the time, but he's not the biggest.
(06:13):
I mean he is the biggest, but there's a ton,
like thousands of other kids who are getting hundreds and
thousands of views and are doing mad good. And it's like, yo,
if you've got a microphone and you got something to say,
just say it. You never know where it could take you. Yeah,
because that's how those kids started. And look at Kai
Kai's in commercials bro like sometimes I look at this
kid and I'm like, Yo, this guy's in actual commercials.
(06:34):
He's a legit celebrity, legit celebrity millionaire. And it shouldn't
be driven by money, should be driven by passion. Yeah,
and it comes back to the point of just being there.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
But it also comes with a lot.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
And we've talked about this, you know, because I truly
think our job has also never been harder with the
temperature of the world. Yeah, I mean, the three of us,
we say how we feel and we're opinionated, and there's
there's other shows in this those are the shows that
would never do that, absolutely would never do it because
(07:07):
they know what the backlash it's going to be. I knew,
I know what we use the Karen Reid stuff for example.
I knew we were going to take heat for that.
But it's just I'm not I'm just not going to
ever be the one that's not going to say how
I feel about the certain things. But that again, that
comes with things.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Yes it does. But I mean it's it's funny. I
think you're going to be better at saying a few
to those people. I mean, it's just just in general,
but when you live by that here you're you're like,
can't come.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Yeah, and again, those are my favorite people to listen to,
to watch creators of their content, like the people that
are like, you know what.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
This is how I feel about the COVID vaccine. This
is it.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
I'm going to take heap for this, but this is
my real, authentic truth to it, and that appeals to me.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Yeah, same, same, Yeah, how do you feel? Who are you?
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Who are you listening to? That was saying, get shot
up everywhere with the vaccine? Who is your favorite content?
A lot of those.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
My boy found everything the news had
Speaker 3 (08:04):
