and Karen Reid. A judge has dismissed a claim that
Karen Reid negligently inflicted emotional distress on John O'Keeffe's teenage niece.
This is a lot, guys, but to dumb this down
for you, remember that when Karen first woke up John's niece,
he was shaking her. John didn't come home. She says
(03:40):
that Karen was saying things like did I hit him?

Did I hit him? Did aplow driver hit him?
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Like she was really trying to wake the niece up
to adam, and that John never came home, and the
family believes that Karen then, in fact, had inflicted this
emotional distress on the niece.

And the judge said, absolutely not. We're getting rid of that.

Karen tried to dismiss a whole bunch of other claims
and the judge said, no, no, no. The O'Keeffe's they can
feel free to move forward with those claims and they will.
The civil suits expected back in court in late November.

Gonda imagine the entire case must have been traumatic for
both those kids.

Right, Oh my gosh. Remember the big thing we learned
from the niece.

Also is that she she said that John O'Keeffe told

that that that the relationship was okay, but that it
had run it run its course and they were not good.

Cameron did that intentionally to the niece.

When I was pregnant with his selling as well, he
left me. He left me while I was giving birth,
and then he came back and two weeks later he
left again because he was like for the girlfriend.

He is, but he is bad news. But unfortunately he's
he's dad.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Does he want to be in the kid's life or
is he just like deleting himself altogether?
Speaker 10 (14:38):
Oh, he has another baby on the way.

With the girlfriend.

this call yesterday to first day back to work after
maternity maternity leave from your third baby, your last baby.
You know what's crazy? You including the word laugh. That's

been a big thing for me. Sometimes I'll just randomly
cry at the thought of knowing that I'm done having babies.
That's that's also no one talks about that because that's
also a weird thing too.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
You're yeah, yeah.

Because I feel like, you know, that's not really a
thing that people discuss. But when you do make that
decision and you're like, you're done, that's also a sad
chapter to close too.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Although Santi doesn't think that that's closed, because yeah, he's not.

Today and not today?

We'd the we've faced it. But it was a morning
period because I've been pregnant since like off and on,
since twenty twenty. So I just I've been pregnant for
five years. I feel like and now it's over. Yeah,
and you know it's good. We love our babies. But
I would keep going for more and more. But I'm
forty and I'm just it's done. You're done.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
That's exactly where I'm at too, Like I'm about to
be thirty nine this year, forty next year.

My time is done. I'm already going to be like
the ninety year old that kindergarten. Like, we're good. You
know you're gonna be there with me with our kings.

Well, listen, I boohooed the entire way back for both
when I came back from Eternity leave.

So I get it. But you've been around the block
with this.

You know how it goes. You just got to get
into a routine. And in the end we're better people
for it.

Dad's great. Dad's home with them on the first day,
taking care of them.

trying to say. He's like, state prison is not at
all easy. This other guy really was upset. He's like,
stop letting these people come on the air and lie,

Well, that's not a lie. He's just telling his dad's experience, right.

Yeah, but they're almost saying that he's capping.

And there's something to be said for not having that experience.

Earlier in the show, when we had a guy on
to kind of he was gonna tell AJ how to
play it in the dating field, Santi started making fun
of you. AJ, and you had a comeback that I
never got a chance to get back to, just in
case anyone had not heard the story ever, And what
was the comeback you had to Santy?
Speaker 7 (20:14):
One time, Santy got contacted by a guy who said
that they went to preschool together and he was over
in another country, Turkey, I believe, and he had amnesia
and needed Sandy to help him.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Sandy was his only hope.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
Yeah, now, now this keep in mind, this is the
man that if you guys called in and told this story.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
He wouldn't be able to hold the giggles back. He
would be laughing at you so hard. But I'll never forget.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
The day she missed the part she missed the part
that he was that they kidnapped him.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
They kidnapped him? Ye, yeah, that was yeah.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
Okay, so let's backtrack. This was probably a couple of
years back. I get a call and he's like, hey,
I'm like, what's up. He's like, I don't know, Like
part of me feels like I might be getting scammed.
I'm like, I'm not really sure. So I just like
kind of wanted to see what you thought about it,

and I'm like, okay, what what's happening?
Speaker 4 (21:10):
I got this call from uh. I thought it was
a female.
Speaker 13 (21:15):
It was a female, yeah at first, And she told me.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
That, Like, I'm like, I'm really trying to by the way,
I'm trying to like this is this is true.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
This is one hundred percent true. I'm not making any
of this.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
And he's like, and she called and she's asking for
money because a guy that I had gone to preschool
with has been captured in Turkey and they need money,
you know, to get him out. And I I go,
this isn't serious, right, and he's like no, actually was
like he got he was like, Ashley, like, no, listen
(21:57):
to me. Listen, listen to me, Like, please be serious
about this. For I don't know why he's calling me.
He's like, she knew the exact bus.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
That was the main thing. He kept going back.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
To the elementary school. Elementary school that we went.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
This woman dropped, which, by the way, we could probably
all find on a gig.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Didn't ask for money yet she wanted me to go
to the FBI to help spread from the prison.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Yes, you're right, because he can't remember his money situation.
So he's telling me this whole thing, and I'm like
trying so hard to be serious because I can't believe
that I'm having to feel this conversation and he's like, ash,
I just I don't know, like you know, she knows
details and he might need my health.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Really started racking his brain.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
It's like, yo, think I remember him.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Yes, I think he wanted to believe it so much
so that he created a character in his head from
this like school bus whatever. So fast forward to the
next day. We get in here and we're like middle of.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
She's called, She's called.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
She calls him you guys, So I'm like, give me
the phone, what do you mean. We had a full
on conversation.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
With this woman, and any details.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
That I would ask, like you know, okay, what school,
she'd say the right school name. You could see see
because he was trying so hard to convince it.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
I remember Joanne wouldn't even entertain it.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
She wasn't upset Joanne did. That's why he called me,
because Joanne was like, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Talking about that's funny. We never talked to the guy
because the guy was had dealt with so much that
he didn't want to relive, like all the trauma. So
she was doing all the talking throughout this entire thing.
You know what, the craziest part about this, there was
a moment within this whole thing that I pictured myself
on like a dateline special. I'm not lying. I could
picture myself on the Today Show, like I saved this
(23:49):
guy was kidnapped. You told me that.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
He was like, but I'm just trying to it's mortifying.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
But he was like, I'm just trying to, like really
understand because what if, yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
What if I could say it. I'm like, son, you can't,
Like you can't.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
So then I was getting mad. I was telling the
woman to FaceTime us like it got and then and
then it just disappeared.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
No, it didn't just disappear. They tried to calling me
for months at like afterwards, and sometimes I would entertain
the conversations back and forth. But then I just bought, what.
Speaker 9 (24:19):
Did we face?
Speaker 1 (24:21):
Yes with her? Yeah? Him, no, because he's dealt with
a lie.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
He didn't want to come on because he didn't exist.
That's probably number one.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
That's probably. But this lasted for a while. This wasn't
like a couple of days.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
It wasn't just a blip on the rail. And you
know what, which makes it even more sad.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
He behind my back, kept entertaining it after I told
him to stop and don't lie to me.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Did you ever send this woman money?
Speaker 1 (24:47):
I did not because I didn't know where to send
it to. Maybe in the moment I would have, but
it was always the thing of like what if this
is actually like a thing?
Speaker 4 (24:54):
So what what?
Speaker 1 (24:55):
What? What?
Speaker 9 (24:56):
What made you believe that it was fake? Because she
was she was on point with a lot of stuff
that you said, I have.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
Two things, that's it.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
She she mentioned the bus and like the stop of
where the bus was and then the elementary was going.
That was it. And I kept telling him like you
could find that these people are so good with the
scams now.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Possible blind but these are things I never spoke about.
That's why I was like, how did she know this?
And that's what always brought me back to the this
could be a thing.
Speaker 9 (25:23):
What was your question? I'll say, like I felt like
what was the line that you was like, okay.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Ye stand out to you?
Speaker 1 (25:31):
That was live? Yeah. Well, just the fact that he
wouldn't come on and speak to me. That was another part.
I'm like, listen, if I could speak to him, maybe
it will jog a memory that this is actually like him.
Because my memory is really good. That was another thing
that kept like going back to I remember the weirdest
things from all time. I didn't really like remember him
as a person, so I kept going back.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
I remember cackling every time he'd be like, well, because
I'd be like, son, he doesn't exist because he won't
come on the phone, and he'd be like he would
fight me.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
Like no, Ashley, it's traumatic for him to talk to me.
I'm like, oh my god, I do remember.
Speaker 1 (26:02):
You're believing that his name was David. I forget what
his last name was, but yeah, he was kidnapped by it,
my boyfriend brought to Turkey and then brainwashed, so he
doesn't remember anything. And yeah, like I believe that, and
you're so right. Though I never had the conversation with
the wife because she won't even entertain it. She looked
at me with someone.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Yeah, I remember you.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
You told me on the phone that you because I said, well,
what is Joanne saying about it?
Speaker 4 (26:25):
And he's like, she won't talk to me.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
He bothered by it.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Because you know why, it's all funny games.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
So he starts sending money to Turkey.
Speaker 6 (26:35):
So sad.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
It's such a cry for help. Then want and need
to be on date line was so great for him.
Speaker 11 (26:43):
Mentality Netflix, he was he really, I'm not lying, like
the contact me. Yeah, the audacity when people are like,
yeah I got scammed, I clicked a link in an email,
He's like, I'm.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Sorry, I probably got duped worse than anybody.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Crazy Like this man called me and had to be
like please be serious.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
By the way, so sad he had to call me.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
No one else would talk to him about I couldn't
believe it was and I do remember too, for like weeks,
like he would mention it like, well, she knew this,
and she knew it was.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Also something about some bombing that went off by his
head too that caused him this traumatic Yes, I believe.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
Actually I think she said he couldn't hear her something.
Speaker 9 (27:34):
Like yeah, I saw there was a picture with band
aids on a guy's heads.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Another thing they sent pictures and all stuff. Yeah, it's
a really sad point in my life. Like that's like
like low the low. So when I make fun of
other people, you can always just remember.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
