(00:00):
If you can wager on it,we're talking about it. It's the Gambler
for national winners. From a localperspective, You're in the right place.
It's balls, Bats and Bets withTim o'kee right here on the Gambler.
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome everyone toBalls, Bets and bets here on this
lovely Friday night on Fox Sports TheGambler. I'm your host, as always,
(00:21):
Tim O'Keeffe. And obviously, it'sbeen a crazy two weeks since we
last spoke. Some good, somevery very very bad. But we got
a lot to cover in the sportsworld. We're going to get into all
of it. We got hard andfinally, being out of town, the
MLB season wraps up. Obviously,we'll talk a little bit about the way
(00:44):
the Phillies went. I don't wantto harp too much on it. We
got to move on, but we'lltalk a little bit about that. And
then also a full beautiful football slatefor the weekend, so tons and tons
to go into. Oh and bythe way, Ego Cowboys week. It's
funny see I like slip that inthere right at the end. So many
(01:06):
things to break down, so manythings to talk through, and we're gonna
do that. I also, Ihave a little exercise I want to do
at the end, a fun littlemost hated teams, since you know we're
playing the Cowboys, We're gonna doa fun exercise with that towards the end
of the show. But starting off, the hot news from this week,
specifically, James Harden out of town. He's finally gone. He got his
(01:29):
way. He went to the Clippers. Sixers get back a lot, a
decent amount of pick value, draftcapital value. And then they got Roco
and a few other guys who havesome name recognition in the leg but are
on the back end of their career. Nicholas Batoum, Marcus Morris, guys
like that, who you know,Maybe they get in a little bit here
(01:49):
and there, but you're not gonnabe counting on them for a ton.
So really it's Roco and picks forJames Harden. Obviously, the mararra here
in Philadelphia was not a success. It was born out of a disaster and
it ended up being its own disaster. I'll say a little less Obviously it
(02:10):
was a huge mess. I'll sayit's a little less of a disaster than
the whole Simmons thing, but bothare disastrous. Again, for lack of
a better word than he hath thesars in front of me. But it
was a complete mess. Uh.James Harden got his way. And I
heard Brian Windhorst talking about this, and he was absolutely right. James Harden
(02:32):
is the king of getting what hewants. He's been traded, I think
it's four times in the league. Each time he got what he wanted out
of it. When he got tradedfrom Oklahoma City to Houston, he got
that Max deal and became the guy. He forced his way out of Houston,
got to Brooklyn and forced his wayout of Brooklyn, got to Philly
and now has forced his way outof Philly and got into la Obviously,
(02:57):
James Harden the person. We canall have our own thoughts about that,
in my opinion, not a teamplayer, just he's in it for him.
He's how to put it. Hegot his ego a little bit hit
here. I don't know if itwas because he didn't like being number two
to mbad or if there was somebehind the scenes what he thought he was
gonna get from Daryl Morey and hedidn't. We'll never fully know all the
(03:21):
details. Well, actually, Iguess we kind of high level do it.
Sounds like James Harden thought he wasgetting a max contract Maury. I
will never know how much Morey saidor didn't say, but obviously the end
game was not going to be himgetting that here in Philly. He's not
going to get into LA either, which also what I will say about this.
The LA Clippers are in such aninteresting mix because James Harden's contracts up
(03:46):
after the year, Kawi Leonard technicallycould be kind of opt out after the
year, Paul George could be afree agent after the year, and Russell
Westbrook could be a free agent afterthe year. They could lose all of
their guys if this season doesn't gowell. Is putting everything into this season
for a team that they just havehim be able to stay healthy. I
mean, quite frankly, in termsof health, you don't get much worse
(04:09):
in the NBA than Kawhi and PaulGeorge. And now you're adding in James
Harden into this mix. It seemslike a recipe for disaster. But the
Clippers are doing everything they can totry to win, which I respect,
not that the Sixers aren't. Ithink the Sixers are, but this is
obviously was a non sustainable situation havingJames Harden here and it's over. But
(04:29):
that being said, just to goback to the draft capital, even though
it is years away, I dothink the Clippers could be a mess coming
up really quick, so that draftcapital could be somewhat valuable. So I
don't think it was a terrible packagewhat we got back. Will I say
also that I think this was theexact package that the Clippers offered for months.
Yeah, you know, I dothink that. I think Morey was
(04:54):
trying to hold out. Terrence Mann'sname kept getting thrown out as the guy
that they wanted. Obviously he's nothere, and so the Clippers held on
to that piece. I'm not losingsleep over it. Terrence Man is a
very nice player, very solid defensively, but not a complete difference maker in
my mind. And I'll take thedraft capital that could turn into a top
(05:15):
five pick potentially, uh from theClippers. As we go through this.
Also, the other I guess we'llsay loser in all this, Poor ferk
on cork Moss, I mean poorFerkin, like he's been trying to get
traded for your Ferkin the opposite ofJames Harden. James Harden gets every trade
(05:35):
demand he wants in the long run. Ferkins asked for a trade three times
and hasn't gotten it. And thistime both the Clippers and Sixers said no.
Like the Clippers came out and said, Ferkin, I don't want you
here for nothing, like just asI an add on, I'm like,
damn, that hurts. Yeah,So if you're Furkin, I look,
(05:55):
just keep ma you're making millions ofdollars. Just sit on the bench here.
It's you're not getting traded. I'msorry, it's just no one wants
you, and the Sixers aren't goingto attach draft capital capital with you to
get rid of you. So you'restuck here, Bud. I'm sorry,
but that's just the nature of thebeast. Where the Sixers go from here?
Hey there? How do I putit? I think most of us
this season kind of expected Hard toget moved. At some point. I
(06:19):
thought there was a fifty to fiftykind of honestly, I thought there was
a chance he was gonna play alittle bit, but didn't go that way.
But now the Sixers go forward.Maxie already named Player of the Week
for the first week of the season, which was great. He's starting off
really hot. That kid is astar. He's a star in the making.
I think you do have a legitimateone two punch with him and embiid.
Is that one two punch enough toreally compete for a title? I
(06:43):
look, I'd be lying to youif I said I thought so. I
don't think so. But I thinkthey could be a really entertaining team.
And it's it's funny that you getsucked back in. We all knew the
Sixers last year ended terribly, andnow there wasn't any big upgrade this offseason.
There really wasn't. Kelly u BrayJunior is your big ad. I
mean, fine, nice player, but nothing spectacular. But now I'm all
back in. The six Ers aretwo and one. Oh excuse me,
(07:06):
sorry, oh, not two onone. But they they're playing good.
They're playing good basketball so far thisyear, and I fully expect them to
be similar to what they've been forthe couple past years. I think they're
going to be a top four teamin the East. I do believe that.
I now playoff time do I thinkthey're the fourth best team out of
(07:28):
the East to win the title. That I don't know, but regular season
wise, I do expect them tobe the top four team in the East.
I think the teams are clearly better. I would have Boston and Milwaukee
after that. I think Sixers couldbe the three seed. I think other
teams that would be fighting for thatslot. The Heat, although they haven't
been great in the regular season, but the Heat could be fighting up there.
(07:49):
Let's say a look at that EasternConference. Dandi's called who else could
be fighting in this realm? Here? Give me one second, here,
let's see, like, who elsein the Eastern Conferent? It's like,
that's what I'm also thinking. It'slike, the East is not a great
conference right now? Like, whoam I scared of the Knicks? All
right? The Knicks I think couldbe legitimately decent. The Hawks, like
(08:13):
the Sixers are going to be atop four team of the East. They're
going to have home court advantage justbecause of how weak the East is.
And that's gonna get your interest in. We're going all gonna get sucked back
in and we're all gonna play intoit. And no, that's fine.
Gets you through the gets you throughthe later part of Winner. After the
Birds are over. And I lovethe Sixers, I really do. I
love Joel Embiid for all the heartachethat this team has caused me over the
past decade decade plus. I mean, I've been a Sixers fan since I
(08:37):
was born. First real season Iremember is two thousand and one. I
don't know we're all gonna suffer throughit together, but I think the regular
season I have optimism for and let'swatch MAXI grow into a star. But
James Harden, thanks for nothing,You're gone. And also, obviously the
last call out of this trade,Sixers cap space is in an incredible spot
for next year or for their abilityto make a move the trade line.
(09:00):
I'm already seeing a lot of reporterstweeting out Zach Lavine, Donovan Mitchell,
different players that the Sixers are gonnabe looking at to get in that wing
space. And look, all ofa sudden, you add one of those
guys. Yeah, I guess what, do I think We're better than Boston
or Milwaukee or even Miami. Maybenot, but I'm gonna talk myself into
thinking that we can beat them ina series. So let's go six Ers.
Here we go? Uh, Movingon to the next piece, Baseball.
(09:26):
Obviously a painful, painful Phillies seriesof the Diamonbacks. I'm obviously I
didn't have a show last week.I'm gonna dive in, just real quick,
give me my sixty seconds, spielstart the clock at three to two.
One absolute disaster series against the Diamondbacks. This team has so much more
talent than them, and you hadan opportunity to go to another World Series
(09:50):
and hang a banner. You hadthe chance, and we blew it.
We blew it, And guess what, I'm tired of everyone did. Did
Rob Thompson have a great series? No, he didn't. He obviously didn't.
That being said, it's not onRob Thompson, it's on the players.
Last two games at home, Schwarber, Harper, Castianos, Turner one
(10:11):
for twenty eight, one for twentyeight. You're how you have no shot
with that? That's so much ofyour core, that's so much of your
core where we're supposed to be adominant offensive team and they didn't show up.
And again, I love all thoseguys. I do. I'm not
saying to get rid of them. It's just sucks. That's the situation.
(10:33):
They didn't step up better. Lucknext year and we'll have to figure that
piece out. All right. That'smy minute. All right. So now
diving in Rangers get their first WorldSeries in franchise history. In congrats to
them. I do end up howto put it when the Phills aren't in
the World Series. My general ruleof thumb, if I really don't have
a true rooting interest, is whicheverteam hasn't won the World Series or won
(10:56):
it less or longer ago. Theyhad got sixty some year streak I believe
sixty one years since the inception, where they just hadn't won. Good for
them, good for that fan base. Go get a win. They did
it, and they did it reallyin a similar way that the Phillies are
(11:16):
built with a lot of free agents. They spent money, but their guys
got the job done. Congrats tothem. Corey Seeger fantastic, fantastic signing
by them. He is a beastof a hitter. And it's yeah,
it's nothing. I had nothing againstthe Diamondbacks and a lot of people looking
mad like, hey, you know, get really screw them go. That's
why they were saying go Rangers. No, I mean, what were the
(11:39):
Diamond's supposed to do? Just rolloverfor us. I didn't have that stronger
rooting interest in this World Series.Did have a little bit of money on
Texas, so that helped me there. But yeah, hey, Rangers got
their win first in franchise history. It's a big deal. I think they're
gonna be a little bit overvalued nextyear for this as they come back.
But honestly, we'll see in termsof the bets. So speaking of betting,
(12:01):
I'll look at the odds for nextyear. Let's pull that up for
who are most likely to win theWorld Series next year? Is starting off?
The Braves come out as your favoriteat seven to one, followed right
behind by the Dodgers at plus sevenfifty. And I think the Dodgers are
that high, and I think theymight overtake assuming they sign a free agent
or two, which we'll talk aboutin the second. Astros in third at
(12:24):
nine to one. Rate are actuallytied with the Rangers at nine to one
both those teams. Phillies in fifthat eleven to one, that's very respectable.
It's a good starting going into theyear, followed by the Yankees Orioles
Blue Jays. Padres rays the valueplay there to me if I'm just gambling
wise. I think the Orioles andthe Rays are both really good value.
(12:46):
Both won the two highest winning teamsin the American League. Obviously didn't get
done the postseason, but posting isa little bit of a crapshoot. We
all know that, So I thinkthose are pretty good value bets you're looking
to put something in real early, like right now. Brewers at forty to
one is another one where I'm likethat that is some value the Brewers that
(13:07):
the NL Central. The Brewers havewon it consistently. Grant they haven't had
playoff success, but at some pointthat can change. They do have elite
pitching. Cubs are a favorite inthat division based off this right now at
thirty to one, and your NLchamp Diamondbacks down at thirty to one as
well, so not giving a lotof respect to them, I think the
Rangers are slightly overvalued here. Iwould say the Rangers should be about even
(13:31):
with the Phillies, if not slightlybehind for next season, just my opinion
of how the teams are shaping upor how the teams shape up, But
they'll also potentially get the ground backfor the later half of next year.
Potentially. I think it's it's morelikely he's out for the whole year,
but there's a chance of that.So lot's going on there. So we'll
obviously keep talking baseball. We're nevergonna stop talking baseball in the show.
(13:52):
I just can't. It's physically impossiblefor me to give it up. So
we'll be back with that and actuallyspeaking about that. Let's not we're not
leaving yet because we're gonna talk abothe free agents coming up this year,
Keith Law of the Athletic released hisfifty best free agents on the market.
Obviously, the guy here in town, Aaron Nola, he's the big name.
Do we resign him? I know, he's a polarizing figure here in
(14:15):
Philly. I would pretty much doanything I have to to get Nola back,
especially when you look at this list. Aaron Nola is the number three
listed free agent on here by KeithLaw, National Writer, only behind Shoho
Tani of course, which hey, look, if you want to get me
show, hey fine, but Idon't think that's gonna happen. And then
second is Cody Bellinger, which Ifind a little bit interesting. I personally
(14:37):
would rather have. I would valueNola over Bellinger honestly, if I'm going
through this list, so it wasinteresting that he had Bellinger up that high.
Belinger is younger, so I getthat. I guess that's what's factoring
in here. But Nola being numberthree in this list, for all of
you guys, I want to getrid of Nola out there. You gotta
tell me who you're replacing him with, because him being number three, this
(15:00):
is telling you, Hey, atleast in Keith Law's opinion, Philly,
if you try to replace him, you're downgrading. That's what he's saying.
Other pictures that come up very quicklyin this list, I'm gonna butcher the
name Yoshinibo Yamamoto coming from Japan,an elite pitcher in Japan. His stats
over there one two one and onehundred and sixty four innings, absolutely elite
(15:22):
pitcher for the Japan League. Nowwill that translate over here? Obviously,
some guys it does, some guysit doesn't. He's listed as the number
four free agent, so he's rightbehind Aaron Nola. He's a gamble move
in my mind, like Nola isso consistent at being out of the mound,
I know, not consistent performance twisall the time, but he's consistently
being out of the mound and givingyou at least keeping you win games.
(15:45):
It's a little tough for me tosay I can replace him with a guy
from Japan. And actually there's twoguys from Japan in the top eight.
I think it was let's see,uh, number four and number ten.
I'm sorry, and ten's a outfielder, never minds a different position. Other
guys that more recognizable name is Numberfive is Sonny Gray. Sonny Gray is
(16:07):
a very solid pitcher this past seasontwo seven nine, one hundred and eighty
four innings, one hundred and eightythree strikeouts. I do like Sonny Gray.
He's a little older than Nola,and he's also had a little bit
ups and downs in his career, but I do like Sonny Gray. Jordan
Montgomery had a breakout season for himat age thirty one, so I believe
same age as Aaron Nola, buthe will be cheaper. He hasn't done
(16:30):
it for as long, but hehad a great season started with the Cardinals
trade over the Rangers helped them winthe World Series. So I do like
Montgomery potentially as I saw for Nola. Blake Snell's the big name that you're
gonna hear. Blake Snell likely gonnabe the cy Young winner. And I
love Blake Snell. I do.He's obnestly. I think it's some of
the nastiest stuff in baseball. Wenteight and two with a one to five
(16:53):
four ERA after the All Star break. He was electric, absolutely elite stuff.
The problem with Blake Snell is hehe just doesn't pitch nearly as much
as Aaron Nola does. Blake Snellhas led the league in the RA twice
this year and then twenty eighteen whenhe won his other Cy Young. The
problem with that is that those arethe only two seasons where he's also thrown
one hundred and thirty innings or more. When you have a guy that Aaron
(17:15):
Nola's consistently giving me like two hundredinnings and now we're gonna go to Blake
Snell who's only going over one thirtytwice, that's tough. That's tough to
swallow again. Playoff wise, maybeSnell is better, but I gotta get
there. I don't I love Ilike watching Blake Snell as like a fan
of baseball. I don't think he'sthe Nolan replacement. I'm just telling you
that right now. I don't thinkhe's the Nolan replacement. Lastly, the
(17:38):
other guy in the top ten inWater Rodriguez. Very solid season for Detroit.
A little bit of an up anddown guy. He's just not as
good as Aaron Nole. He's not, but he's a solid jump in.
Like I'd love to add him torotation. But if yours asking him to
do what Nol has done for thisteam in the past seventy eight years,
he's not going to. We'll seeJohn Middleton and company. They're gonna have
(17:59):
a lot to discuss. Dombrowski ofcourse making the I guess official decisions,
but I am on team bring backNola. My gut reaction though, is
that they won't. They're going tomove on because they won't want to pay
him as many years as he wantsto go. I think you might end
up with a Blake Snell and anotherpitcher, which we'll see how that goes.
Hey, it's gonna be an interestingbaseball off season with the hot stove.
(18:22):
We got a lot of them on. We're gonna come u We're gonna
take our first break because I'm runnup against a little bit on time there.
Obviously we got Eagles Cowboys. I'mgonna do that breakdown next and we're
gonna do a little exercise also withthat top five most hated teams by me,
Obviously the Cowboy's gonna be on thatlist, but as a Philly sports
fan, in my opinion, theseare the five teams that you just should
have hate running through your blood for. So we'll do that right after well,
(18:47):
right after this, we get backon balls, bats and bets coming
back soon, spreads totals and allthe prop bets in between. It's the
Gambler and we're back. And obviouslythis is a special week in the Eagle
season, well one of two specialweeks in every Eagle season. It's Cowboys
Week. No team you love tohate more in the NFL than the Dallas
(19:07):
Cowboys. And obviously big big gamethis year in terms of the division and
NFC standings. Right like it's it'sa huge deal because Dallas one is right
now I think, tied for thesecond best team in the NFC with two
losses on the record, whereas theEagles have one, which is best best
in the NFL. But two.I mean, if all of a sudden
(19:30):
you lose the division of Dallas,it doesn't mean you dropped two, it
means you dropped a five. Ahuge difference is the difference between having home
field advantage throughout the whole postseason rightnow versus dropping down and having to go
likely on the road all the wayto the Super Bowl. So these two
games with the Cowboys this year likelywhen you have a huge impact on your
(19:52):
Super Bowl hopes. Not again,it's not impossible to get there from the
five seed, but man, isit sure? Is it? Sure?
A hell of a lot harder. So we're gonna be diving in three key
matchups that I see for this gamecoming down this week. First matchup Micah
Parsons versus I'm putting in quotes LaneJohnson's slash Eagles offensive line because they will
(20:14):
move Michaeh Parsons around a little bit. But his primary matchup is usually on
the side where he's going up againstLane. Lane traditionally has been lights out
in this matchup, or lights outmight be strong, but he's been elite
in these matchups where he goes upagainst, for lack of a better word,
elite pass rushers on the other end. We've seen him shut down Boso,
We've seen him shut down Parsons inthe past. Lane is great in
(20:37):
these situations. That being said,Dallas knows that Lane is great in these
situations. So you're going to haveto be prepared to face him on both
sides of the line, mixing itup the looks and how he's coming in.
Because Michael Parsons is an absolute gamechanger. We know this. He's
a defensive Player of the Year typeof player that the Eagles have traditionally done
a good job at limiting. Butyou've got to keep an eye on him
(20:57):
at all times because he can blowup a backfield, change a game in
a second, and he is anelite player that you need to handle.
Now, the Eagles offensive line bestin the league, no question about it,
best in the league, but weneed to we need to keep it
up right. It's still a keymatchup going into this weekend. Have to
(21:17):
watch out for Micah Parsons next tothe next one. Eagles need to take
care of the ball right. Eaglesright now are sixth in the league in
most giveaways, so most turnovers, giving up the ball, that's not that
that's honestly kind of shocking to havethe best record in the NFL and have
your turnovers be that bad. Right, they're also bottom ten in league and
(21:38):
turnover differential at minus three overall. There, ye, it's a little it's
a little shocking. It goes youknow, what's the uh the old adage
whoever turns the ball over normally moreusually loses the game. Hasn't been the
Eagles case this year, obviously, seven to one. It's been great.
No complaints, Well, that meansyou take it back off that we can
(22:02):
we can all complain about some ofthese wins. But the Eagles just have
not done a good job at takingcare of the ball. Last year,
they were a top three team inturnover differential, this year bottom ten.
Dallas meanwhile, is plus six inturnover differential, good for fourth best in
the league. They've been great atthat over the last couple of years.
Even with Dak turning the ball overa ton last year through the air,
(22:23):
Dallas didn't have a ton of fumbles, and they also do a good job
at forcing turnovers on defense. That'sabsolutely one of their strengths on that side
of the ball. With guys likeMicah Parsons digs who's out, so you
don't have to worry about him.But he's a great turnover forcer when he's
out there, and it's it's goingto be very difficult for the Eagles to
(22:44):
keep winning games while losing turnover battle. It is. It's going to be
extremely difficult. It's not something thatyou've seen the NFL before, and it's
really for good reason. Over time, if you keep turning the ball over,
you're going to lose games. Andin this matchup against the Cowboys when
it's something they do so well.I'm not saying the Eagles have force a
ton of turnovers, but what youhave to do is you have to protect
the ball when you have it,like that's one hundred percent when you need
(23:06):
to do. You need to beable to contain the ball, not win
the field position battle, everything withthat and not give Dallas easy points by
turning the ball over, especially indangerous areas like on their side of the
field. Uh, it's gonna bereally important. Jalen again MVP Cannon again
this year, but we know hehas not been as cautious with the ball.
More turnovers coming out this year andneed to see that calm down this
(23:29):
week in really your biggest game ofthe year so far. The Miami game
was huge and the Eagles showed upand played great, but still not like
you gotta be careful with that one. Still got to be careful in this
matchup. Dallas is a dangerous teamto the Eagles. They really are,
especially what it can mean for thatdivision as we were talking earlier, and
then the last matchup that we have, so the Eagles are gonna need to
(23:49):
get some sort of run game going. Dallas's defense is third best in the
NFL this year in terms of yardsper game. They are top three also
in pass defense and yards allowed throughthe air. Where they're a little weaker
is in the run game. ThereI think sixteenth or seventeenth against the run
in yards per game. Obviously,Jalen's gonna get his Jailen will run for
(24:11):
a certain amount of yards, andthat's great. We need to get back
to DeAndre Swift or Kenny Game orsomebody being able to run the ball consistently
and having those long drives that breakdown the Dallas defense so then you can
open it up over the top toan aj Brown. The problem has been
the Eagles haven't had that in severalweeks now. Deandres has started off the
year fantastic. He's kind of goneinto the cupboard. Not coupverard is the
(24:36):
wrong word. They're still using. But he's just not as nearly as effective
he's going. He's getting close toan all time or a career high in
attempts and we're in week nine,Like, that's not good. He's not
going again. I'm not saying hecan't keep using him some but you're gonna
have to come up with some otheroptions. Gainwall has been as a disaster,
say, in my opinion, hisyardage efficiencies have been bottom of the
(24:56):
league now for a couple of yearsback, look at a saw John Chance
and tweet that one out, whichI was a little surprised at honestly to
an extent. But it's a factsare facts. He's expected yards per carry,
or the yards he's expected to getper carry versus what he's averaging are
towards the bottom of the leg. It's a mess. That's a little bit
of a that's a big problem.And now all of a sudden, ma
(25:17):
Sehaan Penny obviously no one's using him, so I don't know what's going on
there, and we didn't make amove at the trade deadline. I know
a lot of people were calling forthe Eagles to go get Derek Hendry or
at least some other running back tocompliment this room. Do I think that's
the thing that's going to keep himout of the Super Bowl? I don't
think so. But like again,I also won't say definitely A won't because
you do need to have some sortof run game and if you're relying on
(25:40):
DeAndre Swift to be a three hundredcarry back, that's not what he's built
for. The wonder Swift can bea great player, that doesn't mean that
that's not what he's built for.He is built to be used less and
more effective rather than be your bellcow. Yeah, it is a potential
big problem for this The Eagles needto be eyeing up anybody's available free agents
and figuring that out. But yeah, very very interesting, and this weekend's
(26:04):
gonna be a big test because weneed to have that run game going.
The toush push is great, brotherlyshove, that's fine. That's fourth and
one. Like I need, likefirst down being able to get four or
five yards on the ground consistently andwe'll see we'll see how if the Eagles
are able to pull that one off. Admittedly, I'm a little nervous on
that one because I wish how hedid make a move of the deadline,
(26:29):
but we'll find out later on goinginto next a right, let me let
me back off before before I jump, I'll give my official prediction. I'm
going to go Eagles pull this oneout, but I think it's I think
it's close and ugly. Give meEagles twenty four Dallas twenty one. I
think this is a close, close, ugly game. I guess twenty four
(26:52):
to twenty was not that ugly interms of scoring, but I think it's
gonna be a bruising battle back andforth, but the Eagles come out on
top. And it's all the moreimportant that this one's at the link because
God, you lose this one andthen all of a sudden you have to
go to Dallas when you need tobeat Dallas to hold on to that tiebreaker
makes it tougher. I think Sirianniand team get the job done, but
it's gonna be a h hold yourbreath till the end type of game.
(27:12):
Twenty four to twenty one birds. That's my official pick. With it being
Dallas Week, I did want tohave some fun and uh, I think
I did this exercise last year forDas Week anest, but we're gonna do
it again. I've listed out again. I have about ten teams listed in
front of me for teams that usPhiladelphia fans hate, and I'm gonna give
(27:33):
my list specifically. Again, there'sno wrong answers here. Everyone loves,
we love to hate teams, rightand that's not just true of Philadelphia.
Every sports fan there's teams that youlove to hate, right Like, Look,
everyone hates Duke Basketball, right likeeverybody hates, honestly, the Cowboys.
That's a kind of a natural one. A lot of most people hate
the Yankees, right like, There'sthere's a lot of things that there's a
(28:00):
lot of things out there or teamsout there that you just love to absolutely
hate and it's fun to do.So, so let's talk about the teams
that I hate the most. We'llgo from five to one. And also
this is going to be someone likewho you hate right now because one of
these teams and I'll actually be thefirst one that I'm gonna say is a
I hate them right now, butlong term it probably doesn't hold out.
(28:22):
And it's gonna start with San Franciscoforty nine ers. The San Francisco forty
nine ers and the cry baby youknow what from last year's NFC title game
where we smoked them. Yeah,I guess what. Your quarterbacks got hurt
because your coach left them out todry. Sorry, that's not our fault.
The whining and moaning and complaining thatthey've done, oh man, they
(28:45):
are. I can't wait till weobliterate them. Coming up in a month
or two, they're gonna come tothe link. Brock party's regressing. They're
gonna be in trouble. They've lostthree straight. I said at the beginning
of the year the biggest threat tothe Eagles in the NFC is Dallas,
and I still believe that, eventhough San fran did destroyed Dallas, I
will say that. That being said, the forty nine ers to me,
(29:06):
I just hate him now, likeI literally, I hope they go out
there each weekend and I hope theylose. Brock perty it's a nice story,
it's fun. He's kind of caughtin the crosshairs here at least in
my opinion, but the rest ofthat team, Deebo, Samuel, George
Kittle, I just can't say.I'm even McCaffrey now. I used to
love McCaffrey. I hate McCaffrey nowjust because he's wearing that forty nine Ers
(29:26):
uniform. It is so frustrating towatch them and knowing that they're gonna,
you know, be and moan.Man. I gotta ask Sean if that's
a word we can say on here, if that's if they can be and
moan. You guys know what Imean. It's just annoying as hell.
So that being said that, theyare my number five slot in my number
(29:48):
four, and this is where, look, it's gonna get controversial. Everyone
has their own opinions on this.In my number four, I am gonna
go with the Houston Astros again, similar to the forty nine Ers, where
I don't know if this is ahate that's gonna last forever, but the
Astros, obviously with last year's stuff, we lost the World Series to them,
fine, but the Astros is thewhole cheating scandal. As long as
(30:14):
Altuve, Bregman and a few othersare still on that team, I can't
root for them. I hope theylose every time they go out there.
Granted they're a successful team. Theykeep getting back to that ALC Championship,
ALCS whatever it is, seven eightyears in a row. Now, it
doesn't mean they're not successful, butdamn I hate them. No, you
cheating baseball. I'm gonna I amone of the stricter guys like I can't.
(30:37):
I can't have it, keep youout. I don't want either of
them in the Hall of Fame.I don't think Bragman's that close. Al
Tuove is gonna get a lot ofconsideration. I wouldn't put them in all
because of this, but that toldcheating scandal. I can't be anywhere on
board with the Astros. They're justa mess. That's a shame, because
that twenty seventeen team I remember likingbefore. Obviously we knew all the cheating
stuff, but I remember liking thatteam and just an absolute mess, disaster,
(31:03):
and I can't stand. I simplycannot stand the Astros. Next up,
I'm gonna go with the Boston Celtics. There, how do you put
it? They're the East Coast bigbrother of the Sixers, and it sucks.
That's just what their relationship has beennow for like thirty forty years.
(31:23):
Boston has a great basketball team. The Sixers are always like kind of that
next level right behind them, andit sucks and I hate them. Jason
Tatum, I hate the face,Jalen Brown. I can't stand him.
And look guys throughout over the years, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, there's
so many hateable guys. When you'reon the opposing silence again, I get
(31:47):
rooting for you from Boston, Iwould reform to if you're from Boston.
But the Celtics to me, justabsolutely so frustrating. And look, the
proto problem is they're successful. Theyare generally in the hunt each year,
and they're generally better than the Sixers, and it sucks. And I know
that's why we hate them. That'sjust because you end up hating what you
(32:09):
want to be. And I wishthe Sixers had a lot of Boston success.
I think every Sixers fan does. And it sucks, but that's fake.
I hate Boston from them. Atnumber three on this list, number
two, I'm gonna go with Dallasthe Cowboys. I know a lot of
people on the out there listening, you would have Dallas number one, and
I fully respect that. This isa full opinion. I get you.
(32:31):
I fully respect you guys having Dallasnumber one. Dallas number is number two
for me, not anything out ofanything they did. Look it's or not
have anything good they did. Letme say that. The Cowboys fan base,
we all know it. It's awful. If you're a Dallas fan from
the Philadelphia area, what are youdoing? It's you're doing this because you
(32:53):
want to be hated. And Idon't understand it. I don't get it
by but you want to be hatedfor some reason. You just want to
be that contrarian, just for thesake of being able to say, oh,
look at me, you're you're it'san attention cry that's what it is.
If you're a cab was fanous area, you're an attention crier, and
that's fine, do whatever the hellyou want. But you're you're just you
(33:15):
just want attention. You're the crybaby in the corner that wants attention.
You haven't won since, dear God, since right before I was born,
or right after I was born. It's been forever. It's not like they're
good in the last thirty years, but yeah, you want to just want
attention because yeah, it's just funto root for Dallas because yeah they were
good eons agoing. Oh shut up, I'm done with it now. Dallas
(33:37):
the actual team's obviously super frustrating.Jerry's the face of it. No one
likes Jerry really at this point. He's a comic relief character. Even that
HBO show Ballers, they had theone guy who played Shooter McGavin essentially be
the Jerry Jones. It was hilarious, like, it's fine, it's just
a mess, like Jerry, Jerryat this points more of a joke than
an actual threat, and like actuallybeing competitive in the NFL and it's a
(34:00):
little but that's a little sad andfunny because he's just getting up there and
he's starting to back off comments like, oh, it's not about winning each
year yet. It's because you knowyou're not gonna win. But obviously,
I I if you can't tell frommy little rant here and again, I'm
gonna try to reel it in fromrunning out of time. The Cowboys,
I hate them, but they're mynumber two, number one. The New
(34:21):
York Mets. Just saying the nameit gives me a little bit of a
little bit of a fire in thebelly. And I look. I married
into a great family that loved Theyare Mets fans, they are good people.
That being said, I can't standevery time I watch the Mets play
(34:42):
the back of my mind I amrooting against them. It's just it's like
a natural instinct, like the teamfor me that I remember with the Mets
where I first developed it. It'slike that two thousand and six, seven
eight, you got Jose Reyes,Johann Santana, Carlos Beltron, just so
many hateable guys like I could notstay and really any of them, and
(35:02):
it was an absolute nightmare to watchthem have some success during that era.
But it was so beautiful to seethe Phillies actually get over the hump and
the Mets not absolute wild does wildwild years with the Mets, and even
now or they're spending all this moneythey got Cohen pumping in money and they
can't win, and it honestly, obviously I would much rather see the Phillies
(35:25):
win, but seeing the Mets loseis such a close second to me that
it does feel really really good.So the New York Mets will always be
my most hated team. Again,I get a lot of people out there
like, how do you not havethe Cowboys first? I get it.
I respect your opinion. I justhate the Mets more. Does not mean
I like Dallas. I hate Dallasthe second most. But yeah, so
(35:47):
that's that's a fun exercise. Sorecapping most hated teams number five of the
forty nine ers, uh number four, the Astros number three, the Celtics
number two, the Cowboys number one, the Mets. That's what I got
loved here. Do you guys tweetat me at TK I want to score
picks and at Fox Sports the Gamblerfor your most hated teams. Would love
to see some top five lists outthere. Maybe maybe there's other Met haters
(36:08):
out there that agree with me,would love to see that. With that,
we're gonna take a quick break.Coming up, we got the picks
for the weekend. We're gonna gothrough NFL and College Slate, coming up
with a few things, and we'llbe right back on Fox Sports. Gambler.
Ready for this The Gambler Phillies homefor all things sports gambling. All
right, everyone, welcome back toballs, bets and bets for our third
(36:30):
and final segment tonight, and youknow what time it is, It's time
for the bets. Uh. FullNFL slate, Full NCAA slate this weekend.
A ton of games that I likea lot of Hey, you guys
know my move. I like tolook at game teams that spread, spread
(36:52):
doesn't smell right. A lot ofthose this beginning, and a lot of
teams that are coming off big gamesthat now you have let down week.
That's what we're looking for. Wesee that again this week. We're gonna
start off on the college side.I only got about ten minutes, so
we're gonna knock through a lot ofthese really quick. The college side.
Texas A and M getting three pointsgoing to Ole Miss, and this one
(37:15):
just doesn't smell right exactly, GayTexas A and M coming off a win
over South Carolina thirty to seventeen,Ole Miss seven and one. This year
really been very solid overall record wise, but when you look at like who
they've beaten and how they've beaten themin recent weeks, it's been a little
questionable. Obviously, they're coming offon winn A Vanderbilt, that's nothing,
(37:37):
thirty three to seven, good forthem at Auburn winning by a touchdown versus
Arkansas winning by a touchdown. Theirbest win on the year is versus LSU
at home. This spread being onlythree when you're the number eleven team in
the country going up against Texas Aand M who's five and three and hasn't
beaten a ranked team yet this year. Something smells a little funky there.
I just gotta say so. I'mgonna ride with the Aggies getting the three
(37:59):
point going into going to Ole Missand probably coming out with a way in
this one. This is a purespread read text A M does have a
ton of talent. They do.They are loaded up in talent. They
haven't put it all together yet.Big game for Jimbo needs to beat a
rank opponent. I think they stepup and get the win this week.
Next up, Arizona State versus UtahUtah been a very interesting team this season
(38:24):
to say at least. Also, this is an eleven pm or sorry,
eleven am game start time on theWest Coast two pm start Eastern, which
is very odd to say the least. But Arizona State is two and six
this year. Right, two andsix, But listen to how close They've
played some really good, good squads. At Washington, who's the number five
(38:45):
team in the country I believe seven, lost by eight fifteen to seven.
Versus Colorado, this is where they'restill on a decent run. Twenty seven
to twenty four, at Cal twentyfour to twenty one, lost by fourteen
to USC. They've played a lotof good competition and they don't have a
good record for that, but they'vefought pretty well in these games. Uh,
(39:05):
Utah coming off a beating. Iloved Oregon last week, and I
was right. Oregon absolutely demolishes themthirty five to six. I think that
was that was a letdown spot aftertheir USC game the week before. I
think Oregon, Uh, excuse me. Arizona State catching eleven here is a
trap for Utah coming off these tworanked games. I think Arizona State's gonna
put up a fight. I'm notcalling for the outright win, but give
(39:27):
me Arizona State plus eleven in thatspot. Next up Iowa and Northwestern.
How do I put it? Nothing'sbeen good about Iowa this year. I
get it. It's been ugly football. It's just what they've It's what Iowa
does nowadays, even though they're catchingstrays with a what was it Dabo calling
like saying, hey, our offenseis look at being compared to a fends
(39:50):
offense. I'm like, ouch thatthat that's rough. That's rough. But
Iowa six and two over unders thirtyin this one, they're a five point
favorite versus Northwestern. Northwestern has beenbetter this year than I expected, but
I still don't buy into Northwestern beingany good. They are coming off a
win at Maryland, big win forthem. I think this is Iowa gets
back to just dominating defensively and it'sgonna be very difficult for Northwestern to get
(40:12):
the ball moving and I will putup enough to cover the five points spread.
Give me Iowa in that one.One of the games I really love
this week. This might be mygame of the week. Iowa State over
Kansas. Iowa State is a twopoint favorite over the Kansas Jayhawks. Kansas
huge win over Oklahoma last week, biggest, one of the biggest en franchise
history in not school history, atleast absolutely in recent years. This is
(40:37):
the trap they now have to goon the road to Iowa State. Iowa
State, it's a decent team.Five and three. Iowa State coming off
a win versus Baylor and wins atCincinnati, both were on the road,
and now they come home to playKansas. Who's ranked. This is Iowa
State all day, every day.Their two and a half point favorites,
and the non ranked team. Giveme Iowa State everything in this one.
That's probably my favorite play of theweekend. Next up LSU and Alabama.
(40:59):
LSU obviously, as the two lossesBama has one, spread is only three
even though the games in Tuscaloosa, with Alabama being the higher ranked team.
How do I put it? Alabama'soffense has stabilized and figured it out a
little bit more recently. You know, thirty four points last week versus Tennessee
twenty four, twenty six the weeksprior, actually forty the week before that,
(41:20):
so they figured out some of theissues with the offense. But I
still don't trust the quarterback play outAlabama. I just don't. LSU has
a superior quarterback in Daniels, andthey're coming off a bye, so is
Alabama to be fair? I guess? Let me back off. The both
teams are coming off of bye.I just this smells to me like a
Brian Kelly sneaks it out gets thewin. We saw, Hey, they
LSU can beat Alabama. Recent years, LSU has been able to get at
(41:44):
Alabama. I am buying in thatLSU is going to win this game.
I'll take the three points just forthe hell of it, but I am
all in that LSU is going toshow up against Alabama in this one.
Next up, Arizona versus Ucla.Arizona getting two and a half points at
home. Ucla is such an upand down team. It's the opposite of
your standard Chip Kelly team where theyare a very defensive team. This year,
(42:08):
they have not been putting up hugenumbers on offense. In fact,
I thought at times they've struggled toscore when you think back to like that
Utah game earlier in the year.Arizona, on the other hand, and
UCLA is ranked the number twenty.Arizona coming off good wins over Oregon State
last week. That's a big winin Washington a week before that. This
will be their fifth straight game againstrank opponents, so they have experienced in
(42:30):
that slot. Does scare me alittle bit for these back to back to
back to back tough matchups, butthey're at home after being away for a
little bit. Oh, actually, let me back off that they were home
last week as well. Excuse me, but the way the spread is reading
with only UCLA by two and ahalf, this is an Arizona line.
I'm gonna jump on that. Andthen lastly, I'm gonna take a look
(42:51):
at Notre Dame minus three going upagainst Clemson. I get that people want
to buy into the Clemson bounce backand they're gonna figure a way out.
There's too much talent there. Theyhaven't shown it coming off back to back
losses. They lost to NC State, lost to Miami Shore. Both were
on the road. But man,I don't know. Notre Dames showed me
(43:13):
a lot more this season than Clemson. And I'm only laying three points.
I am all over Notre Dame inthis one. Give me Notre Dame minus
three. That'll close out our collegeslate. We'll do a quick jump over
into the NFL looking into the Sundaymatchups. We're gonna start off on Sunday
Night. Bills Bengals obviously a bigAFC matchup coming into the year. Behind
(43:35):
the Chiefs, these are the toptwo contenders in the AFC. A lot
of talent on the field. Here, the Bengals seem to have things everything
going in the right direction for themafter a sluggish start. Bengals have won
four of their last five, comingoff a big win against the San fran
forty nine Ers last week. Ithink the Bengals have figured it out and
they're going the right direction. TheBills, on the other hand, a
(43:55):
little bit of ups and downs, two of their last four losses to the
Jaguars and the Patriots in there.I the Bills do have a little extended
time coming into this. They playedThursday night the prior week. I'm all
over the Bengals here, though.I think this is a Joe Burrows shows
things everything's all right type of gameand shows that they are back to being
(44:16):
contenders after a sluggish start to beginthe year. So I am all over
Cincinnati. I'm gonna lay the twopoints here with the Bengals at home.
Next, I'm going overlooking two NewOrleans where we have the Saints laying eight
and a half at home versus theBears. The Bears are a dumpster fire
still like right, I don't thinkanyone's surprised by that, and Justin Fields
(44:38):
is still note he still hasn't practice. He's looking questionable for this game.
I am assuming we're going to endup with getting Bagent. I believe his
name is. The backup quarterback forChicago got exposed last week. New Orleans
defense is still very solid. Ithink they're gonna figure it out. And
the Bears defense is nothing to beafraid of, so I think their offense
will get it going. I likethe Saints still that division down there in
(45:00):
the South, and this is agame where you, you know, flex
a little muscle. You beat upon Chicago. Eight and a half.
It's a big number, it's abigger it's one. I think it's the
biggest number of the Saints have laidthis year, maybe even last year.
We have to go back and look. I think that that's there for a
reason. I think the Saints flextheir muscles here, beat up on the
Bears. I'll lay the eight anda half with the Bears, or sorry,
(45:21):
with the Saints. Excuse me.Next couple totals coming up, and
I know we're running up on iton time, so I'm gonna go pretty
quick here. Colts and Panthers,I like the over in that one.
I think both teams can how doyou put it? Neither team's defense is
great and their offenses are starting tofigure it out a little bit. I
feel like at the Carolina side,I know it was ugly last week.
(45:42):
I get it, fifteen to thirteenagainst the Texans. That's not the best.
But before that, they put uptwenty one twenty four points in the
matchups against Dolphins and the Lions.I think they can figure out. The
Texans are a better defensive team comingoff and that was an ugly matchup.
I think the offense is get itgoing a little bit here Gardner Minshew leading
the Colts, I think they canput up some points. Listening to the
Colts last couple of games, totalslost thirty eight, twenty seven, thirty
(46:06):
nine to thirty eight, thirty sevento twenty. Colts overs have been flying
high, and I think that's trendis going to continue. I'm gonna go
over forty four in the Colts versusthe Panthers next a couple of unders.
Both are thirty seven totals in Vikings, Falcons, Giants, Raiders. I'll
start Giants Raiders. Giants ate likethe Giants are an absolute disaster negative passing
(46:28):
yards last week, the Raiders startingaid to O'Connell. They're just fired their
offensive mind, head coach. Thisis an ugly game. This is going
to be a very ugly running gameto control the ball. Thirty seven.
It's a low number. It's lowfor reason. I'm going under here.
I don't trust either team's offense.Not that I love the defenses, but
I don't trust the offense. It'sget much going next last or last,
(46:49):
I should say under thirty seven inthe Vikings and the Falcons. This is
strictly a reading where the money isgoing for me. This one's been coming
down this week. Opened up atthirty eight and a half. It's bleeding
down to thirty seven. Even thoughthe public betting is on the over,
the money's coming in on the under. I'm gonna ride with that. Kirk
Cousins out for Minnesota, gonna benew quarterback in there. I believe his
(47:12):
name is Hall, so we'll seehow he does. And Desmond Ritter has
not done much. I think it'sactually gonna be Taylor Heineke starting. They'll
control the ball. I think thisis another one under thirty seven. So
quick recap College Slate Texas A andM plus three, Arizona State plus eleven,
Iowa minus five Iowa State Game ofthe Weekend for me minus two and
a half, LSU plus three,Arizona plus two and a half, Notre
(47:36):
Dame minus three, NFL Bengals minustwo, Saints minus eight and a half.
Over forty four in Colts Panthers, under thirty seven in Vikings Falcons,
and under thirty seven in Giants Raiders. A lot of fun stuff. Everyone
appreciate you hanging with me. Ido have to run. Everyone tune into
the Gambler all football seats long bestspot for it. Sean Brace in the
