Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Battleground Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
You'll play for.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
And exclusive interviews with some of your favorite wrestlers.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Stop being what's up you guys? Welcome back into Iheartradios
official wrestling podcast, The Battleground Podcast. It is battle alongside
my tag team partner, Eli's here with us and Halloween
Havoc is just days away and we couldn't be more
excited for it. NXT's Halloween Havoc joining us on the show.

(00:40):
We can just go ahead and say the face of NXT,
right of n XT, j C J Jesus.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Yes, what a great intro. I love it.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
I mean, you're you're the face of NXT. We're not
gonna say it's Ricky. We're not gonna say it's Blake.
We're not saying it's Jordan. J C is the face
of NXT. Let's let's let them just start things off
with this huge title defense for you at Halloween Havoc
this Saturday against Tatum Pasley. What is your mindset heading
into this one? I mean, do you respect the rise

(01:10):
of Tatum or are you looking at this is just
another stepping stone, another name to check off the list.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Both It's definitely another stepping Stone another check on my
defeated list. But I will give Tatum her flowers. She
works super hard. She is a very unique character. I
think she's extremely well rounded and very underrated. So I'm

(01:38):
very happy that she's getting her moment. But with that
being said, I'm still gonna come out on top. I'm
not going to take it easy on Tatum. Love you,
but it's just not your time yet. It's still JC
Jane's time. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
I mean that makes a lot of sense when you
think about it. So over the last couple of weeks,
there seems to be almost a groundswell of a momentum
behind Tatum. The crowd really seems to be behind her.
Do you think that the crowd noise specifically is going
to maybe have a negative impact on the match this
Sunday or the Saturday.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
A negative impact like in my regards.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, do you think it may? You know, just the
extra noise in the background may may kind of No, no.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
No, I don't pay attention to the idiots and the
people that have been hating on me since day one.
I'm used to the hate. I'm used to the booze,
you know, Honestly, I thrive off of it. So I
encourage anyone who's going to be at Halloween Havoc, please
give me everything you have because I'm going to use
that as fuel.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Yeah, it's definitely gonna be some fun stuff this Saturday
because we know what's going to happen at Halloween Havoc.
It's gonna say and still, you're NXT Women's Champion j
C Jane, And you know, the one thing that we've
seen on TV every week is the confidence in JC Jane.
And you know you've talked about confidence before not coming overnight,

(03:02):
and fans have definitely seen that since your Toxic Attraction days.
But I'm curious what was that moment for you where
it just, you know, it just clicked, Like when did
you go from I'm a part of this group to not,
you know what, I'm the face, I'm the main event
now of NXT.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
I don't know if there was ever like a specific time.
I guess you could say when I won the title.
But I've known for a long time that I was
meant to be in this position. I just didn't get
the opportunity to show that yet. So yeah, it took
me a while to become confident, but I always believed
in myself and I knew that one day I would

(03:42):
be a main eventor I just had to stay the
course and work really hard to make sure that when
that opportunity was presented to me that I was ready,
so that nobody could say anything anymore. You know, they
can't say she's not ready or she can't do it,
Like I was not gonna let that happen. And I
feel like I've g that, Like I had my match
with Stephanie, I won the title, and I have been,

(04:06):
you know, main eventing and running this division ever since.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yeah, and you also put your name in the history
of books as not only being the NXT Women's Champion
but also the TNA Knockouts Women's Champion that not many
people can say.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah, I'm the first to ever hold both titles at
the same time. I'm honored. I was very happy to
be a part of Slammiversary and to work for TEENA
represent them, and also work for NXC at the same time,
representing both divisions. Like that's huge. Those two of the
best women's divisions in wrestling period, and I was representing both.

(04:44):
I was the champion of both. I'm extremely happy I
can say that I did that.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Yeah, it was, and it's just incredible to see just
you having two belts and representing two women's locker rooms
at the same time. It's just you don't see that
very often. This week on NXT, you referenced the the
most beatable champion in WWE history line that had been
referenced before. Ironically, Lany Reid was the one that said that,

(05:11):
and she obviously challenged you for the title early on.
What has changed since those days when she was making
those kind of sharp comments about your title reign or
you're you as a champion and to now being you know,
kind of the new full member of a fatal influence.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
I think she was new to TV. She's been in
NXC for a couple of years, but she hasn't really
had any spot lighter opportunities yet. I think she was
feeling herself. She was trying to prove herself to me.
I think she got cocky way too fast, and then,

(05:48):
you know, she learned really quickly, like where you fall
on the pedestal and you're not as high as you
thought she were, I'm the top girl. So I think
that was a reality check for her, and then she
kind of started buttering me up and learning the correct
way to go about things. So she proved herself to

(06:09):
me and I brought her in the group and we're
doing pretty well.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah, it seems to be. It seems to be going
pretty well, and we'll see how things play out again
this Saturday, Halloween. Having NXT. You know, one thing that
you've talked about recently, and you mentioned in another interview
how your time in TNA wrestling kind of really opened
up your eyes and gave you a different view than
just living inside of that WWE bubble. How did you

(06:35):
take away from that experience that changed how you approach
things now in NXT.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
I mean, I'm from the Indies originally, so I've experienced
obviously wrestling for TV not for TV, two completely different things.
I feel like in NXT everything is there's a structure
of how you do everything, and you know, you have
to hit specifics, and your times are very strict, and

(07:03):
everything is very strict, and you have to play by
the book t and A. It's a little more relaxed.
You have kind of more freedom to try things, do
things that you might not do on NXTTV. So I
feel like I learned from that also, everything is put

(07:24):
together more last minute, so I feel like your brain
just has to be go, go go. You don't really
have time to think about it, whereas an NXT, I
feel like I have more time to think about things.
So that's challenging, but it was a great experience, and
I feel like TNA helped put me on the map
as a singles wrestler. I was always a tag wrestler

(07:45):
in NXT, so when I jumped over to TNA, you know,
I had singles with Masha, and I feel like people
were like, oh wait, JC can wrestle as a singles
like I've never really seen that side of her. So
I feel like that just opened a lot doors and
it got people talking and it started giving me different
types of opportunities. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Absolutely. You know, specifically with you guys being in the spotlight,
you you've navigated big match pressure and weekly TV at
the same time. Very well. What what's kind of your
mentality for staying fresh creat creativity, creativiativity wise and physically.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
I mean I watch wrestling twenty four to seven. Like,
when I'm not at work, I'm watching wrestling. I watch RAW,
I watched SmackDown, I watch T and A I honestly,
I watch everything I watch New Japan like uh. I
think just watching other people work just sparks ideas for yourself.
You might see something you like, but you can change

(08:46):
it to make it yours. So that's kind of where
my creativity comes from. But staying in shape, I mean,
I just work out literally every single day. I'll have
ring training, I'll do weights, I do a lot of cardio.
I'm a big runner, so I go running at least
once or twice a week. But it's a lifestyle, you know.

(09:08):
You just get in this role and it just keeps going, going, going,
going going. So it's just how you know, it's just
life honestly.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Yeah, of course, Halloween havock again. This Saturday, you're gonna
see j C. Jane retain her NXT Women's championship because
we're just gonna put it out in the universe. We're
not gonna say anything else. They're going to raise her hand,
is going to say and still. NXT is gonna put
the graphic out saying and still, and it's gonna be
all over the place.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
I want to go.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Then we go back to what you said just a
second ago about how fans always saw J C. Jane
as a tag team wrestler, not a singles wrestler. And
you know you've been called in the past a great
number two, but I want to give you a shot
now as we're as you're holding that top spot. What
did that label teach you when they said, hey, she's
a great umber two. And how much of a chip

(10:01):
on your shoulder do you carry because of that?

Speaker 1 (10:04):
A big chip on my shoulder? You know when I
was told that originally, it really really bothered me, Like
I don't know if it should have bothered me, because
you know, it's not a bad thing to be a
good number two, but that's not what I envisioned for myself.
I wanted to be the girl the main event. So
it really pissed me off. So I really went to

(10:25):
work and I was, oh my god. I was training morning, night,
every single day, no days off. It really changed my mentality.
But I feel like people viewed me as a tag
team wrestler because I was just in a lot of groups.
Like I started off with Toxic Attraction, then it was

(10:46):
just me and Gigi, then we broke up. I was
alone for like a hot second, but then I joined Chase.
You I was with THEA and then right after that,
Jasmine was with me, so then we formed Fatal Influence.
Then Fallon was with me, like it was just always
me with other people. So I think you're looking at
it as a group, not as like, oh it's Jc.

(11:08):
It's no, Jason's just a part of this group, right, Yes.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
And obviously good things have happened, because again we go
back to the beginning of the show, the face that
runs the place, JC James, the face of not only
NXT but also the women's division of NXT as well.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yes, yeah, it's been a hell of a year for me,
I will say that.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
Yeah, and it's not even over yet.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
That's right. The best is that to come?

Speaker 2 (11:33):
Absolutely do you think that? What would you say it's
been the most memorable part of your NXT title reign
so far? Has there been one thing where you're just like, whole,
pardon my friend, hotly shit, or just like what do
you have a defining moment for you in your mind
as a champ?

Speaker 1 (11:48):
I would say being an evolution, being able to represent
NXT on technically a main roster pay per view and
sharing the locker room with all these amazing talents. I
haven't been able to step in the ring with yet. Like,
I feel like that was a huge test for me.
It was either like sink or swim, show us that

(12:08):
you belong and I feel like I did that. I
feel like me and Jordan Grace put on a really
good match that night, and we represent the brand really well.
So I would I would say that was the biggest
moment so far besides winning the title, I guess.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
But yeah, and you had some you had some man
fans there too. A lot of people thought Jordan was
winning that night.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
So everyone always thinks I'm going to lose. That's the
ton of it.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Keep doubting me.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Yeah, a lot of buzz after that show. A lot
of people were yeah, yeah, that was a killer pay
per view too. Just an incredible show.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Top two. Yeah it was. It was one of the
best of the year.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
Honestly, it was absolutely for sure. Now I know our
time is coming up here as we're getting ready to
wrap things up, We've got a couple more questions before
we let you go. Looking ahead for a second, when
you look back, how do you want to be remembered
as NXT Women's Champion? Like when people look back on
this run. What do you want your rain to stand for?

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Obviously, I guess shocking. I feel like I want people
to remember this as like my glow up, Like the
person who they didn't think would ever become champion, the
person that they didn't think could stand alone, person that
they thought was a mid carter or a low card
became the high card, just like a full trends, a

(13:27):
full transition, Like everybody has seen me from day one,
and it took me a while to get here, a
lot longer than other people. But everybody's journey is different.
So I want people to when they think of my reign,
I want them to think of, wow, she really did it,
Like she accomplished the dream. She worked hard, she stayed
the course, she did what nobody thought she could do.

(13:51):
So maybe someone else will look at my story and
be like, I could do that too. Hopefully my story
is inspiring to other people.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yeah, yeah, sure, And definitely your journey has has paid off.
I mean, you got that NXT Women's Championship around your
shoulder right there, and it's gonna be fun to watch
you defend that and retain your title This Saturday, nxteen
Halloween havoc last question before we let you go. We
always like to have a little fun towards the end
of our interviews. If we were to look at your playlist,

(14:21):
like your music playlist right now, what is that one song?
If we're scrolling through that we see and it's like, huh,
I didn't think JAC would listen to this song? What's
that song that's gonna surprise us?

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Wow? Right now? I mean so recently I just discovered
who Youngblood is. I don't know if it's like surprising
that I would like him or not. I feel like
it's not that surprising, but I just discovered him recently
when Ozzy Osbourne passed, and wow, I like, I love

(14:53):
his music. So his new album Idols, what's it called
Hello Heaven Hello? I think it's called the song. I
have it on repeat, Like it's so good. It's like
I drive to work listen to it. I leave work
listening to it. It's my hype song right now.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Yeah, young Blood is incredible. I watched that performance of
him and I was just like, this is like the
second coming of Ozzie in a way.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Yeah, but he's like an eighties rock star in modern day.
It's so cool.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
He's incredible, and he definitely puts on the hell of
a live show as well. Speaking of live show again, Saturday,
NXT Halloween Havoc. At the end of the night, we're
gonna have the and still NXT Women's Champion. JC Jane
our guest today before we let you go, anything you
want to say to the fans that are watching or
listening to this right now.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
You know whether you guys love me or hate me,
you boo me, you cheer me, I don't care. I'm
still gonna be the NXT Women's Champion.
