(00:00):
Battle Down. Why from the PartsUnknown Studios into the Double Battle Crowd,
Battle Round, the Battle Round,Battle the Battle Crowd. Welcome to the
Battleground Podcast, your place for allthings pro wrestling. The Battle Road,
(00:24):
the Battle Round now making their wayto the microphones. Give it up for
your hosts. Welcome to the BattleCrown. I feel as if like I
have an Adam Copeland shrine behind mefor some odd reason. I've got the
tag title. I've got the BigGold, I've got the inter Continental.
(00:45):
I've even got the uh you know, the Funko Pops sign, the United
States title sign. Uh. Theonly thing I don't have is the rated
R Superstar Spinner. That's the onlyone I don't have. But I do
have two additions that I believe you'regonna be adding that TNT title eventually in
the AW title. Eventually. Imean, you never know. It's uh,
(01:06):
you never know, they'll leave it. We'll leave it at that.
I I, uh, great stuff, great stuff. I've got Adam Copelan
on with us of course this weekin AW Collision and Battle of the Belts
eight debuts at the FedEx Forum thisSaturday. Of course. You can grab
your tickets now at all Elite Wrestlingdot com. Real quick, I do
want to ask you a question, and I've seen rumors on the internet about
(01:30):
this. It is because I knowyou're in the upcoming Percy Jackson series.
We've all seen it at the NewYork Comic Con. Big congrats on that.
My question is is it true thatif you're in a Disney show or
movie or whatever, you get passesto all the Disneys for life, like
all the theme parks. I mean, I don't know it to be true
(01:52):
yet, so I think we candebuck that one. I mean, that
would be kind of cool that ifyou if you're in a Disney you should
get free access, right. Imean, I got two daughters who would
definitely agree with that sentiment, Butuh, yeah, I haven't. I
haven't been privy to that way yet. Well, we'll have to get to
the bottom of this and figure thisa lot to make sure everything's taken care
of. Uh, you know alot of headlines have been made you.
(02:15):
You came over to ae W andit was a monumental moment. Everybody lost
their mind when that theme song hit. And you know, Aw's got a
unique blend of talent. What seemslike a more relaxed creative environment. How
does this differ from your previous experiencesand how do you find it more fulfilling
as a performer. I mean, every process has its pros and cons.
(02:38):
Right, it's great to be involvedto a heavy extent creatively. Now I've
been lucky in that throughout the yearsand throughout a lot of years and producing
that you are given some creative freedom. That's always great, you know,
because as a performer you have tobe able to bite into what you're trying
(02:59):
to produce out there. I've alwayssaid, if there's some element of truth
that the person behind the character canbite into, then the fiction should follow
that truth. And that doesn't change, you know, that's always treated the
saying. But it's really nice tosit down and go, Okay, how
could this story play out? Andbe heavily, heavily involved in that and
(03:23):
being here on a week to weekbasis, that becomes more possible. You
know, it's not poking in everythree months, and that becomes hard,
you know, it becomes a hardprocess to be involved, you know,
in a large creative way when it'sjust kind of popping in and out like
that, right, for sure? And you know, we've already started seeing
all the wheels turning. You've alreadymade who made it known who you would
(03:45):
like to wrestle in aew after thepress conference, and something really cool,
and it's been making its way aroundthe internet. Recently, a photo was
posted on social media of you,Ryan Danielson, and Soraya, all of
which were told at some point evergonna be able to wrestle again, And
here you all are in the samecompany, all defying the odds and wrestling.
(04:06):
How awesome was that moment for youthree when you were taking that photo
and letting it all sink in.Well, I mean, if we're Brian
and I are not the brightest bulbson the tree. So it was Sorea
who put it together and she went, oh, but I'm a second.
We're like, oh yeah, yeah, you're right. I mean, we've
got to get a picture of thisbecause just to be able to acknowledge it,
(04:29):
to celebrate it. You know, three people who who wanted to do
this, and and I think threepeople who always wanted to do this.
So the fact that all of usgot it back pretty cool, pretty cool,
and just nice to be able totake that moment for a second and
soak it in really because that's thefirst time we're all in a ring together,
(04:51):
and it just kind of dawned onher thankfully. Yeah, And I
got to tell you, like, you know, growing up, I was
a big wrestling fan, and I'vegot my kids into wrestling. I've got
an older kid who's kind of nowthe teenaged age where wrestling's not cool.
My sixth wrestling is the greatest thingin the world. And I was able
to grow up watching you wrestling.I watched you when you came in as
(05:13):
the Brood and everything else ministry.I was there at wrestle Mania back in
was it twenty eleven in Atlanta whenit was you and del Rio and then
when later that year you retire andeverything. I was like, I don't
think my kids will ever be ableto, you know, think ahead,
my kids be able to watch, you know, Adam and a ring.
And now my kid gets super excitedand he's like trying to spear me as
(05:34):
I'm sitting downstairs on the couch watchingaw and I like and I'm like,
ah uh, it's great because nowyou know he can watch you wrestle and
you know people that you know thatI grew up watching are still there going
at a high level, and it'sit's a testament right there. Well,
you know, the biggest thing forme was the challenge. Initially, Okay,
(05:57):
can I can I do this again? Can I do something that that
hasn't been done before with the extentof my surgery is an injury. But
after that, I started to realizethat I'm reaching a whole new generation.
And when I started seeing the littlekids and now being a dad and connecting
(06:19):
with them in a different way.You know, I think they all feel
that dad energy coming from me,and that to me, has been the
greatest byproduct of this by far.H It's so much fun, you know,
because I think back to being thatkid, right and I remember maybe
Belief Gardens, you know, ifI got to smack hands with Texas Torrado
(06:40):
and he let me touch the InterconnamentalChampionship, Like come on, you know,
to be of anything like that fora kid is just you know,
my favorite part of this now it'sand it's great to just watch him react
because we were at the aw showin Nashville a few weeks or about a
month or so ago, and wewere right there on ringside and Dax and
(07:01):
all them came by and handed mykid the belt like you were just talking
about, and he's like taking aphoto of it, and he's like losing
his mind and he's like, thisis the belt and he's got all the
belts as well. But it's greatto see kids getting involved into it.
And you know, this is what'sgreat about when you watch AW. You've
got a lot of people there andit seems like everybody's there to help each
(07:23):
other out. And as a veteranin the industry, how do you see
your role in AW in terms oflike mentoring and helping that younger talent develop
their skills. You know what,I've always said, I'm here to be
that if people want that. Idon't want to be one of those guys
who who you know, walks aroundsay I'll watch your match and if you
(07:44):
did that, Like, I don'twant to be that guy. But if
people ask me, I'm always herehelp me and always here as a sounding
board. Always here, Like ifyou want to work on promos, send
them to me and we can diveinto them and pull them apart and tran
out some layers. I love beinga part of that. I love seeing
a light bulb go off for youngtalent. The growth of young talents,
(08:09):
to me is really exciting because Ithink back again to what I was getting
in the industry and the bad newsBrowns of the world and the brent Herts
of the world, you know, took me under their wing and showed me,
showed me, you know, andwoke me up two things. And
that's always you know, pay itforward, pay it forward, right,
It sounds cliche, but especially inthis industry, it's really really important.
(08:33):
I mean you look at it,and I mean ae W has been very
very good at cultivating that young talent, that home grown you know, I
know they call it the four pillars, but I mean you look at them,
and they've done really good at cultivatingthat young talent. And something also
great that we've noticed when you watchAW is you get a little bit more
(08:54):
freedom to do certain things with likeother promotions outside of AW I know a
W has the working relationship with NewJapan and everywhere else. Is that something
that you would like to do Andif so, you know, outside of
aw is anybody you'd like to stepinside the ring with. That's pretty exciting
actually, you know. And andagain a byproduct of coming here is oh
(09:16):
wait, hold on a second Tokyohome could could I could get? That's
that's on a checklist. Arena Mexico, Well hold on, you know,
because I went there once. Iwas I was World Chap, but I
wore a mask because I want towatch the show, and so I snuck
in and watched the show with Ithink I'm a fist still fask on bands
(09:41):
and just how to blast because Ijust I love the culture of lucha libre
and I love the pageantry and anduh yeah, so I mean those those
two things I think would be verycool as as you know, a lifelong
wrestling fan. Those are two experiencesthat I think would be really cool that
I just didn't know whatever be inthe card, so you have to kind
(10:03):
of write it off. Especially afterI'd retired in two thousy eleven. It's
like, Okay, just didn't getthose things done. Now they can get
done, and that's pretty fun.Yeah, And here's my thought. And
I'm throwing this out there in theuniverse because every time we've thrown something out
in the universe, it happens mypersonal thoughts. Adam Copelant entered the g
One climax next year. I meanwe'd have to carve out some time,
(10:28):
I guess, but Eddie did itthis year, right, so it's possibility.
I mean, never say never, right, right? So you know
this weekend it's a big one AWcollision battle the Belts aids FedEx Forum this
Saturday, because you still grab yourtickets now all ali Wrestling dot com and
here on the show. We werebig into music, and I know bringing
(10:52):
in alter Bridge for your theme songfor AWS great, And I know that
Tony likes to kind of throw inthrowbacks every now and then. Is there
a possibility for like a random oneoff, we might get that Rob Zombie
theme song come out just randomly?Nothing I do is random, Okay,
(11:13):
Okay, there's always a plan.So but but knowing how in tune I
am, and how important music isto my character and and how I look
at things, you never know. But but I feel like if it does
happen, it will be because itwill hit more and with more story behind
(11:37):
it. You're like playing at myheartstrings right now, because I've been sitting
there and I was playing back likeall your theme songs earlier, just getting
pumped for this this interview I wasdoing that, and then I was also
listening to Tony Chimmel do your announcing, which but that did that also,
maybe you know, throwing it outthere in the universe as well. Maybe
(11:58):
just he randomly shows up, howlike Thinkle would do certain things back in
the day, just randomly show upand announce. In no way do I
mean disrespect to this, but ifyou thought of it, I thought of
it about eight weeks ago. Hey, just weeks, but at least three
I can't do my game up andjust stopped here in the universe. But
uh, man, I gotta tellyou, Adam, it's it's an honor
(12:22):
to have you on the show.I know you're a very busy man,
and you know, I don't wantto take up too much of your time
because I know you've got some things. You got to address some stuff tonight
at a e W, especially withChristian and some words that he said last
week, especially pertaining to your family. Like I saw it, I was
like, somebody's about to get asolo concerto eventually. Yeah, it's uh,
(12:48):
it's it's been fun to play thisthis one out, you know.
And and I think the real challengewith it is we have a lot of
TV, so it's making sure tokeep this thing, you know, compelling
and and and that's a that's afun challenge though, you know. Yeah,
And that's really that's where we're atwith it is Okay, what's the
(13:09):
next twist? And that's usually whenI start stroking my goatee. I realized
I just did it. There itis. Now you're already thinking of something
that I'm gonna come like like weeksor later and be like, hey,
what if Edge does this? AndYou're just gonna respond back thought about it
at that time where I was talkingto you on the show. But Adam,
(13:30):
it's it's it's literally an honor anda privilege to have you on the
show. My co host Eli couldn'tbe here tonight because he had something else,
but he wanted to let you knowthat the very first wrestlers that he
met a long time ago were youand Christian and that was the first meet
and greet that he ever did withthe wrestlers. Uh. And he even
had like the old like Brood shirtthat he was going to wear during the
(13:54):
interview tonight, the original, theoriginal. He told me how much he
bought it off on eBay, andI was like, I would have done
the same thing. I would havedone that. But real quick before we
let you go, is there anythingelse you want to say to everybody watching
listening to this right now? Youknow, I more than anything, you
(14:15):
know, I know how wrestling, the social media culture of wrestling fandom can
be right now, and it's kindof a bummer sometimes. So more than
anything, I just when I lookat things as a wrestling fan, which
I still am, I think it'samazing. There's so many different ways to
(14:37):
watch. There's so many different thingsto watch. It doesn't matter what the
initials are. It's professional wrestling. And if we're talking about this or if
we're you know, complaining about thisor you know, putting glory behind us,
it means we love this thing. And I wish people would remember that
(14:58):
that this is something that is awesome. It's just supposed to be fun.
It absolutely is. And the factthat the last every time I'm out there,
so you know, hopefully that translates. You can definitely when we when
we watch like your debut and everything, you can definitely tell that you were
like acstatic, and you can youcan genuinely see that smile on your face.
(15:18):
You get out there, that crowdoop and you're on this and like
just having everybody go. It wasand it's the It's the best gig in
the world, and to me,it's still the most fun form of entertainment
in the world that hasn't changed.Absolutely well, Adam, again, I
don't want to take up too manyyour time. You're a Hall of Famer,
(15:41):
a legend, an icon. I'mmarking out right now, so I'm
just gonna say thank you for everythingand coming on the show. We look
forward to having you back on soon. Thanks for having man. We hope
