Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello everyone, and welcome back to Bending the Edge here
on Fox Sports.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
The Gambler Ryan Coyle joined alongside draft guru Nick McLay
for Mock Draft one point oh here on the show,
recording this on April ninth. We are just a little
under three weeks away from the NFL Draft coming up
three Thursdays from now or two thursdays from now, whatever
one it is, and we're cranking out content. We did

(00:26):
a deep dive on all the position groups quarterbacks, pass catchers,
running backs, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, edge rushers, linebackers, and
last time we finished off with the secondary. Today we're
gonna go into our first mock draft. We're gonna do
a little back and forth between Nick and I. A
little bit of technical difficulties. We wanted to share, the
screen was not allowing us, so we'll just have to

(00:47):
figure that out as we go.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
But we're gonna go back and forth mock draft style,
no trades.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
We're gonna give you the player, the position, the school,
and a little bit on each of these guys.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Nick will be taking the odd picks. I would be
taking the even picks.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
So with all that being said, Nick, you're on the clock,
the Tennessee Titans number one overall.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Who is that selection going to bed?

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, I think they've kind of made it clear at
this point that it's going to be cam Ward. So
we'll take cam Ward here. Quarterback out of Miami. Titans
offense has been terrible. I mean, Well Levis hasn't shown
up to through the expectations at what he's really been,
you know, talked up to be. They were twenty seventh

(01:31):
in the NFL and points for a game twenty seventh
also in the NFL in passing yards for a game
on two hundred and ninety five a game, and they
only had twenty two passing touchdowns last year. So I
think cam Ward is the obvious pick for them in
this situation. I mean, he had over four thousand yards
last season, ten games, over three inch d plus. I

(01:51):
think he could come in. I don't think he can
really change the whole entire you know, outlook of the Titans,
but I think he's at least better than Well Levis
in a week quarterback class.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
So cam Ward here, Yeah, We're we're not sitting that
high of a bar if we're aiming just to be
better than Will Levis is he worthy of the number
one pick. I guess we're obviously gonna see that. That
remains to be seen out there. I'm a big cam
Ward fan, interested to see though he's not a player
that I think you.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Kind of said changes everything.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
He's not going to walk in there and flip this
team into a playoff team from day one. But I
certainly think you put the right talent around him. This
could be a really good young quarterback in that AFC South.
And also just want to say, off the rip, this
is going to be what we think they would do, so,
not what we would do with the selection, what we
think these teams are likely to do. So all right,

(02:44):
my first pick, I'm up number two. Cleveland Browns are
on the clock. I'm gonna go with Travis Hunter. I
feel like that has been kind of shelled out there
that the.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Past few weeks.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
The corner first, first and foremost, and then I think
we're going to see him play some offense as well
for the Cleveland Browns. Obviously, the main discussion point is
he going to play both all the time. I think
we talked about it enough. We think he's going to
be you know, i'd say ninety corner ten percent receiver
eighty five fifteen maybe something like that. You'll definitely see
him with the ball in his hands, and you got

(03:15):
to get the ball in this guy's hands with the
ball skills that he has. Maybe even see him in
the return game a little bit as well. But it
sounds like he's going to be the number two overall
pick for the Cleveland Browns. Go alongside Denzel Ward and
form a really good cornerback duo. And to be honest,
in that AFC North with Jamar Chase and t Higgins,
you need that. So Travis Hunter out of Colorado to

(03:38):
the Cleveland Browns is my pick for number two there.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah, I think they've also kind of made it clear
that they won Hunter. The last couple of days, reports
have all come out saying Hunter is this clear number two.
And I mean he was a Heisman, he was a
played both ways, so he's clearly, you know, he's earned
it to be a top three pick. So I can definitely,
you know, get behind him going to the Browns there.

(04:02):
But that leaves me with the Giants at three, and
Abdul Carter here just falls kind of right in their lap.
So I'm gonna go him. I mean, he was one
of the greatest edge rushers in this class by far.
I kind of think All American Big twelve Defensive Player
of the Year. I think he has potential to be
an All Pro. I think he has potential to win

(04:24):
Defensive Player of the Year in the first couple of
you know years of his young career. I think he
can add to a nice defensive line already with Brian Burns, Thibodeau,
Texter Lawrence. I think that can be you know, a good,
you know, solid up front for them. On the defensive
side of the ball, they weren't very good in the

(04:44):
run defense last year. I think they gave up over like,
they gave up over one hundred and thirty yards per
game on the ground. So I think he can come
in and make an impact immediately.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Yeah, it would be a very nice kind of trio
of pass rushers that they have there. But it would
also be ironic because you know, the pass rush gets
unleashed a lot when when you're winning and the other
team is coming from behind having to having to throw
the football. So it would be an interesting fit as
as Eagles fans, as Eagles believers, and.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Watching that squad.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
I don't know if they're going to have many opportunities
to rush the passer for for those guys, just because
I think the offense is going to be so far behind.
But I do think like if they do get Abdul Carter,
I think the Giants will be like an entertaining squad
at least this year. Whether it's Jamis or Ross playing quarterback,
They're at least going to be a more fascinating watch
and that defense could could single handedly kind of keep

(05:40):
them in games. They got some good young pieces throughout
that team, so I think they're in the position, whether
it's even you know, Brian Dable and Joe Shane if
this is their last year, this is just the pick.
I think that helps them win now but also cand
kind of help them in the future. So really like
that selection there for the Giants at number three. So
that brings up the New England Patriots at number four
are a team that has some needs on different spots.

(06:03):
Do they look at offensive line, Do they look at
potentially receiver as well, get kind of Drake May his
long term weapon?

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Do they go the defensive side of the ball with
Mike Rabel.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
I think they can go in a number of ways here,
but I'm gonna go with Will Campbell, the offensive tackle
out of LSU. I think he's the best offensive lineman
in this draft. I think there's kind of a few
holes in his game. I know there's been some discussion
doesn't have the longest arms, but you know, he said
it himself, kind of turned on the tape. Did my
arms affect me against some of the best players in
the country in the SEC rushing off the edge? Now,

(06:35):
so Will Campbell there get your long term kind of
left tackle. Maybe he plays right tackle right away, but
I think he sides right in there at left tackle
and he's your long term blindside protector there for Drake
may have those two guys together for the next ten
to fifteen years.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Yeah, I think that's a solid pick. I think he
is the best offensive lineman in this class. And like
you said, he's shown up for the last three seasons, playing
in an SEC score and absolutely dominating the last wowever
long he's played three years, like I just said. But
moving on, I think we got Jags at five. I'm
gonna go Mason Graham, defensive lineman from Michigan. They need

(07:13):
a defensive lineman. They were second most and yards allowed
per game with three hundred and eighty nine, twenty eighth
in sacks per game with only two and twenty ninth
in sack percentage. So they need to get to the quarterback.
They need guys on the front. I think Mason Graham's
one of the safer picks of this class. On a
great defensive line. They had obviously Kenneth Grant. They had

(07:36):
Josiah Stewart too, so they had people alongside him that
kind of, you know, made his production what it was.
But I think at the same time, you get him
in an NFL system, I think he can compete. I
think he can dominate. So give me the give me
Graham here going to the Jags.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Yeah, you said it best.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
I think when we talked about the defensive lineman as
well a few weeks ago, Mason Graham and safe was
kind of the word to the pop up. And when
you're the Jaguars, I think you have to be in
the position where we're taking guys that we know can
contribute from day one. You just brought in a new
head coach, new GM I think you kind of want
to get a good kind of building block.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
It's another team where do they want to build on offense?

Speaker 2 (08:15):
They just brought an offensive coach, obviously Trevor Lawrence there
as well.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Do they have a screaming need for the offensive line?

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Like someone at the top there that you couldn't pass up,
you know, up for debate, maybe one of the offensive tackles.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
I don't think receiver would be an option there, or
tight end.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
So you take the safest player on the board and
probably the best player on the board available there, all right,
number six Las Vegas Raiders. You know, every mock draft
I feel like you see has them taking Ashton Genty.
It's certainly a scenario too where I even saw the
GM saying my child was saying, Dad, if you don't
pick Ashton Genty, you're an idiot. And it kind of

(08:54):
reminds me of a few years ago when Brian Dable
was on Orcuse me just Shane was on the Hard
Knocks and and his son.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Was like, dude, just go up and trade for Jad
and Daniels. What are you doing?

Speaker 2 (09:05):
And look what Jayden and Daniels did and look what
Daniel Jones said last year. So could be kind of
writing on the wall. Might be one of those picks
we have like pencilvan. I remember whatever it was five
years ago or so when the Steelers were on the
clock and Najie Harris was still there, and it was
like that was the one pick that you saw in
every single knock draft that was just kind of penciled in,
and it's like, if that guy's there, that's gonna be
the pick. And it just seems more and more like

(09:27):
this is gonna be the pick? Would I do that
if I'm the Raiders? Like it kind of goes back
to the Saquon discussion of like, all right, is that
really the pick that we need? Like how much better
is Ashton Gents going to make us in terms of
winning football game? Sure he adds talent to this team,
but this Raiders team, like what are they doing at
the quarterback spot? Gina Smith the long term guy there

(09:48):
is that kind of what they're rolling with. It remains
to be seen. Pete Carroll definitely a run first type
of coach. But I guess you gotta you gotta saw
Ashton Gens running back out of Boise State and for
this like.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Yeah, I mean you look at their depth chart right now.
They're running back is Raheem Mostert and Sincere McCormick. So,
and we've seen the Zumir White train has not you know, worked,
so they they clearly are in need of a playmaker
on off and so I think you can kind of,
I don't know, pencil him in, but I think that
is what's gonna happen with Jane here. So moving on,

(10:24):
I got the Jets. I think the Jets go o
line here with armand Membu. So I'm gonna take him here.
He has only risen his stock since the end of
the season and the combine dominated the combine. They need
offensive lineman. They just lost Morgan Moses. They drafted Olu

(10:45):
Fashanu last year. I think these guys could be a
great tackle combo at the next level. I think you
got you just signed Justin Fields. You got to protect them.
You gotta protect the brisol. So I think you put
together for Shanu in Membo. I think that's a great
duo for your future. And if Justin Fields, you know,

(11:05):
project doesn't work getting quarterback in the next couple of drafts,
these two guys are going to protect them. So give
me Membo here.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
All right, I'm going to go next number seven with
the new York Jets. I think they could go you know,
one of two ways. You just took one of the
tackles off the board. That leaves you Calvin Banks there
as well.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Out of Texas. They just had Fashanu last year.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Excuse me, you excuse me, you took you took the
judge by bat onto the Panthers. I met a spot
here that you can be looking at this team. I
think defensive minded GM with Dan Morgan, I think this
is a team that is going to look to build
through this defense.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Bryce Young certainly looked better last year.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
Could they get better at some of the skills spots
as well? Wide receivers certainly in need. I think too
offensive line got better as it kind of went on,
but I.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Think that the pass rush certainly needs some improvement.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
There's a there's a handful of guys We've talked about
a bunch of of these kind of edge rushers, these
pass rushers that which one is the best.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
It's kind of like.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Pick your poison, pick your your favorite flavor of ice cream.
Which kind of guy on the board. I'm gonna shake
things up a little bit. I'm gonna go with James
Pierce Junior out of Tennessee. I think when is when
he's at his best and his raw kind of ability.
He's one of, if not the top top five prospect
in this draft, and potentially the best ed rusher not

(12:29):
named Abdull Carter. I think we're gonna see We've talked
about it a lot nick in mock drafts. I think
we're gonna see a lot of these things get blown
up this year because there's no consensus type of players.
It's kind of who you like, as we said, kind
of what's your favorite flavor of ice cream, and let's
go select that one.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
So I'm gonna go James Pierce.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
There might be an eyebrow raiser, but I think this
is a guy that's definitely gonna go in the top
part of the first round. And I think he's a
good fit here in Carolina.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yeah, I definitely see that. They definitely need some guys
to get to the quarterback. Their defense has been terrible
the last few seasons. James Pearce is just you look
at him, You see all the traits, you see the tools.
You think of a player that can come in there
and change a defense. So I like that pick there
with the Saints or for the Panthers. Now with the Saints,
I don't know if I would do this, but from

(13:18):
what I'm seeing, even the betting odds have had it.
The favor to go to the Saints here is shad
Or Sanders, So I'm gonna go Shaudor. They get their
you know, long term hopeful quarterback of the future, play
behind Derek Carry. Doesn't have to come in start right away,
don't have to have too much pressure on him. This
past season there were twenty third in the NFL and

(13:39):
passing yards per game two of five, So I think
Shoudor can come in here again, doesn't have to play
right away, can learn a system. With Kellen Moore, they
would have built something new. I think this could be
a good spot for Shador down there in New Orleans.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Yeah, what would be interesting if we did see him
going in the top ten as well. I think the
more and more as we've gone on, I could see
him falling, But also could see, as you said, kind
of Kellen Moore wanting to get his own guy in
the building and someone he could build around. And you
look at you know, his history of quarterbacks outside of Jalen,
a lot of the guys that he's worked with have

(14:18):
been primarily more kind of pocket passers, whether it was
Herbert Dak guys in that kind of realm. So I
could see that certainly be a selection as we were saying,
like this is what we think they would do instead
of what we would do. So interesting h spot there
if he does find his way to New Orleans. But

(14:38):
I could see, you know, as soon as at the
beginning of next year, Like I'm not saying beat out
Derek Carr, but Derek Carr is not going to have
the cushion for the entire season. Like it could be
a quick you know, three games or something and he's
and he's out of the he's out of the lineup,
and Shudor is potentially in there, but I'm going to
go wide receiver he.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
For uh, like Keenan Allen, Like yeah, like Keenan Allen
getting a little older?

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Is that is that a pick there? Potentially Dunes last year,
like I think they want to give. I think they're
going to give Kalb the kind of the best possible
solution going forward to continue to build there. I have
started to see Marion Hampton potentially sneaking into the first
round as well, Kelvin Banks still on the board, right, yep, Yeah,

(15:30):
offensive lineman out of Texas.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
Give me that, give me him.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
I know this team invested a lot of resources into
the offensive line this off season, but I really think
you can't have that many. I think I believe Bracshen
Jones is the offensive lineman who's in a contract. Yeah,
at left tackle, he's in a contract year. Whether he
goes out there and proves he's the guy or not
remains to be seen. This season, He's got a big
opportunity to kind of go out there and cash in,

(15:55):
get himself a large paycheck. But I think Calvin Banks,
if not, you could play him in the interior and
put him at guard for some of this year as well,
or potentially you know, bracktion and Jones plays his way out.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
I think that's the beauty of the offensive line.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
You got guys that you can kind of put in
different spots throughout throughout the lineup, and also guys are
gonna miss time throughout the year, and also guys are
are replaceable. Offensive line I think is kind of the
most obviously, with five guys across across the spots that
are kind of moving the most. A lot, so just
continue to keep that that quarterback up right, especially with
all the hits he took last year.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
I think that should be priority one for the Bears.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Yeah, I like that pick a lot. I like Calvin
c has kind of been sliding down to some people's
boards and I don't really know why, but yeah, I
like that pick. Moving all in, I got the forty
nine ers, I am gonna go with Will Johnson cornerback

(16:52):
out of Michigan. I think with Campbell and Membu off
the board, Banks off the board, I think they should
probably go offensive line. But you see a run here
and are at least mock Dray with three offensive linemen
in the top ten, so I think they look at
the defensive room. I think they can improve on that end.
Go with Will Johnson picking up after Travarious Ward left

(17:13):
he went to the Colts. Johnson, I think he could
be one of the most lockdown of this cornerback group.
Obviously we think we look at Travis Hunter, He's going
to be the main guy, but I think, well, Johnson's
the guy that has kind of gotten not talked about,
kind of swept under the rug. He checks all the
boxes that you look for in a cornerback. I think
he can. Hey, he has all the tools to develop

(17:34):
into a true number one lockdown corner, So give me
him for the forty nine ers here.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, it is certainly something that I agree with you
on that Will Johnson hasn't been talked about enough.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
He's a player too.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
I could see shaking things up going, you know, maybe
eight to the Panthers, nine by the Saints, somebody kind
of sneaking into that top ten as well. If the
Cowboys get to this pick and don't need to trade
up to do it, I think that they're running up
to the podium to take Tyler Warren tight end out
of Penn State. Jake Ferguson another player entering a contract year.

(18:09):
He's been solid, like he's had his moments, But Tyler
Warren I think has the potential to be a game
changing tight end. Maybe they look at the receiver spot
here with some of those top guys on the board,
I don't think we've had a receiver go right, No,
not yet. Yeah, McMillan's so available, Luther Burden so available obviously,
Travis Hunter, whatever you want to say about.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
Him, because at number two.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
But I think Tyler Warren is kind of the safest
pick there for a team in Dallas that you know
has so much money invested into these high resources, whether
it's DAK, whether it's c DA going to have to
play pay Mica eventually as well. This is a team
that should be kind of looking to win now. So
I think Tyler Warren being there at that spot a
really safe pick, but also a player at the high ceiling.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
So give me Tyler Warren there at number twelve of
the Cowboys. I like that.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
I like that he can definitely come in and instantly
impact offense at offense. Obviously, you know they had some injuries,
but Dak and everything, but that offense was not what
it kind of what it was supposed to shape up
to be. So yeah, I can see that. I'm going
with Barren there, and now I got Dolphins here at thirteen,
and I'm gonna go I'm going to go another cornerback here.

(19:19):
I'm gonna go Jenay Baron. I really love him. He's
very versatile, he can play all over the round, he
can play in the box, he can play outside inside,
very physical. H Jalen Ramsey's getting old. I like him,
kind of learning under him. They kind of have the
same play style, same demeanor. They need defense. They need it,
you know, stop points from being scored. They can also

(19:41):
improve on the offensive line, but with the three already
off the board, I think they kind of need to
go elsewhere here. So give me Jedday Baron cornerback into Texas,
going to Miami.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Yeah. I was listening to Mick Shade talk today and
he had him as his number two corner behind Travis Hunter.
Very high on him and just being a football player.
We kind of talked about it last night. He's going
to be a corner, you know, eighty five percent of
the time. But a guy that I think you can
move around defensive backfield as well, like maybe think like

(20:12):
Malcolm Jenkins kind of it is. He started out as
a corner and then he started playing a lot of
safety as obviously as his career went on. But a
guy that you could kind of line up all over
and was like, all right, we're in a pinch here,
he can go play safety. We're in a pinch here,
you can go play corner. Interesting spot to kind of
look at there, all right, number fourteen now right me
with the Indianapolis Colts.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Yeah, tight end I think as a glaring hole.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
I've seen this, whether it was Tyler Warren or Colston
Lovelin being a heavily mocked pick here when you look
at that that team and with Tyler Warren off the board,
I think Coulson Lovelin is a slam dunk pick there
a highly productive tight end out of Michigan young quarterback
in Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Who's going to be slinging the rock?

Speaker 2 (20:57):
I don't I'm not in love with any of the
quarterbacks there to take a reach, and you're probably not
taking one after you just took Richardson.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
Two years ago.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
So let's get either Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson, you know,
a reliable target over the middle.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
I think Coulson Lovelin kind of fits the bill there.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
I think what we talked about with the Raiders and
Ashon Genty having that kind of penciled in, I think
Colts are kind of penciled in for a tight end here.
I'd be very surprised if they don't. But from all
the mocks that we've seen, we've pretty much all seen
the Colts take a tight end. But moving forward, Falcons
and I think this is another one where you kind

(21:35):
of run up to the podium. I'm going to go
Mike Green here ed Jenna Marshall, one of the most
priductive edge rushers in this class.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
This year.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
Falcons have had one of the worst quarterback pressure rates
the last two seasons. They despite even signing Judan, he
hasn't done anything for them last year. So I think
Mike Green can be an immediate impact on this Falcons defense. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Stat I saw today every other team has at least
one hundred and ninety eight secs since twenty nineteen. The
Falcons have one hundred and sixty nine in that span,
ranked last, and QB pressure rate.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Over that same stretch.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
So yeah, yeah, I think edge should be you know,
needs one, two and three for that team potentially there.
All right, let's not let the receiver slip anymore. Let's
go Ted McMillan here, number sixteen to the Arizona Cardinals.
I think they're another team that is sprinting to the podium.
If he's there, give Kyler Murray, you know, another weapon there.

(22:36):
They're not the same. I think at the receiver spots.
Since d Hop left, obviously they got Marvin Harrison Junior
in there. Now, are you gonna want to invest wide
receiver ammunition back to back years in.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
The first round? Who potentially?

Speaker 2 (22:51):
It obviously remains to be seen, but this is a
player that has top ten ability tech. McMillan interesting fit
with Harrison. Like we know Harrison notast year and have
many much separation. I think he was more of a
contested catch guy, didn't have as great of a rookie year,
I think, as some people expected. If you bring in
a similar player and McMillan could be a bit of
a question mark, do you look at more of a

(23:12):
guy like Luther Burden instead? But I think Ted McMillan
being there on the board stays, stays in Arizona.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Was a Wildcat. Now he's a Cardinal.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
I like that. That pairing of him and Harrison could
be scary, and they were both one of the most
productive receivers of the last you know, three four years
that we've seen. So I like that pairing in Arizona.
He stays in Arizona. Now I'm at the Bengals and
this is one of my favorite players of this draft.

(23:41):
I'm not sure how he really fits with this system.
But I'm going to take him here, Jalen Walker, edge
out of Georgia or linebacker out of Georgia. I think
he kind of will play more of edge at the
next level, but he can He's versatile, he can play
move around, and Bengals are They may lose Trey Hendrickson here,
so you're trying to fill a hole he still hasn't left.

(24:01):
But I think that's a spot where you kind of
prepare for the future. He's been a leader of this
Georgia defense, and like we talked about last night, you
have that chi on your helmet. You know you're getting
a decent player in him. So bring him in a
Bengals system. I think he thrives. Give me Jaalen Walker
here Georgia.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
All right.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Next pick, we go to number eighteen with the Seattle Seahawks.
Interesting offseason. I think to say the least, you go
and trade for Sam Donald's kind of an eye popping pick.
Trade out Dk Metcalf. I think that the wide receiver
spot kind of opens up here now for them offensive line.

(24:42):
If you want to product Sam Donald, if you kind
of learn from your past mistakes, corner maybe even as well.
Devin Witherspoon, Tarik Wallen, the guys out there right now,
maybe get another young guy kind of.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
In the mix there. I think he gotta go receiver.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
They do go out out and bring on bringing Cooper Cup.
But if you're gonna give Sam Donald, you know, the
chance of success. Look at what the Vikings did from
last year, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, plenty of past catchers
out there and offensive friendly system as well.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
Yeah, TJ.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
Hockinson, Aaron Jones in the running game. So I think
you kind of got to look at the receiver spot here.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
I'm going to slot in Luthor Burden here.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
I think he's a player that potentially could be a
better pro than he was in college.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
I think he was underutilized at times this.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
Year with with with Miszoo, and he was also banged
up a little bit. But he's got that debo ability
to him where kind of just get the ball in
his hands at and he's a playmaker. Cooper Cup in
there right now, who knows how much he has left
in the tank, But more of your route runner, your
guy underneath or excuse me, Luthor Burden, the guy that
kind of get the ball in his hands at all

(25:51):
costs and even whether it's out of the backfield screens.
This guys is just a playmaker. And I think you
got to surround Sam Donald with some more if you're
going to be, you know, believing in him to be
your long term guy.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
Yeah, he's one of those guys. I agree with you
that is going to be a better proud Like you
said that twenty twenty three tape. If you want to
watch what Luthor Burden will be like in the NFL,
look at his twenty twenty three tape. Don't look at
this last this last season, because that offense was terrible,
the system was terrible. That system was broken. So if
you want to look at him, look at two years ago,

(26:23):
because that's what the productive Luthor Burdon will look like.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Now.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
I got the Bucks at nineteen, and I've seen this
kind of penciled in a lot. Them taking Jihad Campbell
linebacker at Alabama, So I'm going to go that we'ro
oute again. They could go edge, could go corner. I
think with Johad Campbell, you just get a kind of leader.
Put him on the field. He's gonna make plays. He
is could be their levante. David, you know fill In.

(26:48):
I think he's pretty much already professional ready with his size,
with his intangibles, his IQ. So I think he'll be
a good fit down there in Tampa. Johad Campbell linebacker.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
Yeah. The thing with the Bucks too, like they haven't
been hesitant to take linebackers in the draft earlier. Even
Devin White and I know over the past few years
he hasn't that great, but he was a top five
pick at one point. And that Super Bowl, Like I
remember the Super Bowl that they won. The thing that
stuck out the most in that game was the linebackers.
It was like Lelante, David and Devin White were just everywhere,

(27:23):
like sideline the sideline. So it's a team that with
this front office and Todd Bowles, they showed they've shown
in the past that they valued these linebackers early in
the draft as well. So I could definitely see and
seeing that be the pick there number twenty the Denver Broncos.
I certainly think they're going to go to the offensive
side of the ball. Continued to build around bow Knicks
after that impressive rookie year that he had.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
You have kind of your pick of.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
Receivers, you know, we've only had two go so far,
and Luther Burden and Ted McMillan. Do you go with
a running back in Omari and Hampton as well, Potentially
that could be in the cards. I think the running backs,
there's a handful of good ones that could go, Like
in the.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Second third round that could go be like Day one starters.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
So I'm going to go to the offensive side at
the receiver spot with another pass catcher. Give me a mecha.
Abuka here another player that I think kind of similar
to court Portland Sutton, where like these guys aren't burners,
they're more kind of your intermediate receivers. But Bo Nicks,
I think that's where we saw him best last year
and what we saw in best in college as well,
kind of like dink and dunk his way down the field.

(28:26):
And I think Abuka is kind of your perfect my
conference is like Keenan Allen, where he's just going to
be a guy that could catch ninety to one hundred
balls every year, be under your underneath, reliable third down target,
and help you move the change. He played with so
many good players at Ohio State. I think that kind
of overshadowed him at times, but those guys, are you
know wide receiver rues in the NFL. I think he's

(28:47):
a perfect kind of wide receiver too, Portland Sutton will
I don't think he's necessarily a short fire number one.
I think these are two kind of you know, two
one A one B number two type of receivers. But
I think they would work really well kind of playing
with each other. So I'm gonna go with Abuca there
to the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Yeah, Buka is one of my favorite players in this class.
He is just so refined in his routes. They're perfect there.
He's a technician when you watch it, so like, if
you want to learn how to run a route, you
watch his tape. And he's had the experience, he's had
the production for the last three seasons. So I think
he's gonna be one of the more productive receivers of

(29:28):
this class. And Sean Payton with a Buckeye receivers, that's
you know, it's kind of hard to go against Ohio
State receivers. Steelers here at twenty one and I hate
this pick, but it's what all I've seen on Twitter,
and I'm gonna go Jackson Dart here. I don't like
it whatsoever. I don't really think he's a first round pick,

(29:50):
but I think he could develop into something that I
guess the Steelers might want to, you know, move into
that new type of you know era. They don't have
a quarterback right now. They need something. I don't think
there's anyone on the board right now that they are
willing to jump at. I think they'll go Dart year.
They already put him in for a visit, so I

(30:13):
think I'm going to go Dart here at twenty one
of the Steelers.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Yeah, it's a spot that I've seen recently rumored with
with mister Milroe out of Alabama as well. I saw
he got a get an invite to the Green Room
in Green Bay to be a part of the first
first round. So interesting there, you know, seems like Aaron
Rodgers is I don't know if we're going to say,

(30:40):
say slam dunk for anything regarding Aaron Rodgers at this point,
but I could certainly see Aaron Rodgers being their quarterback
next year. And you know, Rolling the developmental guy might
worry some Steelers fans though, like is that just kind
of can you Pickett two point out?

Speaker 3 (30:53):
Especially?

Speaker 1 (30:55):
You gotta wonder kind of with that.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
But all right, we go to pick number twenty two now,
which is my Los Angeles Chargers. What do they do
They bring in Najia Harris's off season, they bring back
Mike Williams. I still don't think that's nearly enough talent.
Kind of there on the offensive side of the ball.
Could they look to bring in a guy like Marion Hampton,
you know, Jim Harball loves to run the football.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
Kind of get some more guys in there. J K.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
Dobbins is still there right, yes, yep, Yeah, he had
a nice year obviously, you know he's won one more
knee injury, probably from being out of the league.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
So kind of what does this team look to do.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
They brought in Lad McConkie last year, had an awesome
rookie year. It's another spot where it's like, do I
take another receiver here potentially? Do you do you look
to continue to improve the offensive line? Do you look
at the tight end spot? Maybe even I'm gonna a
wide receiver here. I think that they need some more
explosive playmaking on that offense. Guys that can, you know,

(31:54):
turn nothing into something. And I'm gonna go with Trey
Harris out of Ole Miss. A little bit of a
up and down prospect in terms of what people really
believe in. But I think he's got that big playability
that this.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
Chargers offense is missing.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
You look at any Old Miss games this year that
he was out there turning out kind of explosive plays.
Another guy I think, just get the ball in his
hands any way, shape or form, he can make some play.
So give me Trey Harris receiver out an Old Miss
to the Chargers there to give Justin Herbert some more
on that.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
I like that, and that kind of makes my decision
a little easier because I'm going to go Packers here
with another wide receiver of Matthew Golden from Texas, I
think they would be a static to get him. At
twenty three. He's only been gotten better as the year
going on, and he dominated that College Football playoff. The
Packers need wide receiver. They're always hurt. Every single one

(32:47):
of them is always hurt. It doesn't matter if it's red,
doesn't matter if Christian Watson. None of them are on
the field at the same time. So I think you
get a speedy receiver short handed Matthew Golden depth there,
so I think him and Jordan Love could get a
great combo downfield combo. So give me Matthew Golden there.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
Yeah, and Kristjanal Watson to toward the ACL at the
end of last year, and I think he's going into
year four like you're you're gonna have to pay up
for him at some point, so maybe look potentially to
the next option there. Next pick is at number twenty
four here with the Minnesota Vikings only have four picks

(33:28):
in the entire twenty twenty five drafts. So it's a
team that you know, they got to hit on some
of these these key needs and for them to have
such a good year that they did last year fourteen
and three, picking up here at twenty four, they probably
feel a little lucky.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Who do they they go with.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
I think the defensive side of the ball is a
spot that they should look to address. And it's a
guy nick Since we talked about him, like I've just
heard more and more, it seems like over the last
twenty four hours. But Maxwell Harrison out of Kentucky, the cornerback.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
He's a guy that I'm starting to really fall in
love with.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
His ability to not only cover, but turn the football
over make plays with the ball.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
In his hands. And then you talked about it last night.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
His willingness to tackle a little bit undersize, but a
guy that is going to stick his nose in there
and make some plays.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
He's a tough news player, very fast. Ran a four
point two eight at the combine.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
I think that Vikings defensive backfield is probably one of
their weakest spots. And when you look at you know,
just competing in your own division with the Lions and
what they have at the pass catcher spot the Eagles,
if you're going to get past them in the NFC,
you need to be able to cover there on the outside.
So let's gim me Harrison, the cornerback at of Kentucky
to Minnesota. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
I like that. He's one and he dominated the combine again.
He ran a four two I think that was the
fastest one at the fastest ten yards split. He he's
an athlete and he makes plays on the ball. He's
not afraid to get his nose dirty either. So I
like that pick in Minnesota for Maxwell Harrison. There, Texans,
they need to go o line. They need to protect CJ.

(35:04):
They need to be able to let him get the ball.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Out.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
I know they need receiver too, but we kind of
had a run. I'm gonna go O line. I'm gonna
go Josh Simmons, offensive lineman, Ohio steam. I know he
missed a lot of the season with injury, but reports
are coming out that he's all healthy, and I think
if he was healthy, he'd be within the top fifteen picks.
So I think he is a player that could come
in and if he is healthy, he can make an

(35:28):
immediate impact on this O line. That Houston made big
moves on this offensive line getting rid of a bunch
of guys. So I think if all injury, you know,
schedules are up to date, and nothing sets him back,
I think he can make an immediate impact. Josh Simmons.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
All right, we go to pick number twenty six, and
I think the at least what I've heard the most
about this draft is like the ed rushers in the
defensive line, and we saw a ton of guys still
on the board, and the Rams are Rams aren't a
spot where I don't really necessarily think they're looking to
take one of these top guys at the defensive line,

(36:08):
like they invested both of their top two picks last
year in defensive lineman. I think they look to go
elsewhere team that I could see addressing the defensive backfield
as well.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
Go with another corner, a guy that I really like.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
The injuries are concerned, I think it could fall cause
him to fall a little bit. But I do think
the Rams are don't think of the draft in a
different way, but they are kind of more of an
outside the box team when it comes to the draft,
and they're very good in the draft. They have a
very high hit rate, and I think they're going to
take a chance on one of them ten to fifteen
most talented players in this draft. Injuries might be causing

(36:42):
them to fall. But Benjamin Morris in the corner out
of Notre Dame, I heard it today, not only had
the hip surgery this year, but he had won in
high school as well on his other hips. So a
guy that has been banged up with these hip injuries.
But when he's out on the football field, I think
at top ten to fifteen in this class, very experienced,
with that really good Notre Dame defense, I think he

(37:05):
kind of slides right in there.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
It could be a Day one starter for the Rams
at corner.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Add to that, kind of stable of young talent that
they have on the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
Yeah, and I think if he didn't have those injuries,
he would be a sure fire first round pick. And
I know we have him at twenty six here, so
we do see him going in the first round. But
I think it wouldn't even be a question if he
didn't get injured. With his production and the traits that
he has. Twenty seven Ravens that could go a lot
of ways, but I think they'll be static if this

(37:36):
player falls to them. Michael Williams edge out of Georgia again,
I'm gonna say it again, you have the G on
your helmet. You're gonna be a great player in the league.
At some point he checks all the boxes as an
edge rusher. He still has room to develop, you know,
his IQ, his playwreck stuff like that, but he'll learn
that he's kind of a role just athlete that get

(37:59):
to the backfield. I think at some point he may
be up there with the most tackles for a loss
in in the league of sacks in the league. He's
gonna be very productive pro and in a Raven defense,
I think it could be very impactful. So give me
like yel Williams their edge out of Georgia.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Yeah, Scott, the helmet there at that pick, not gonna
knock that at all. With with with taking a Georgia guy,
there are we go to number twenty eight with the Lions.
I think decimated on the defensive end last year. Was
it because of you know, talent and ability, or was it.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
Because of a lot of injuries as well.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
I still think that offense is leaps and bounds better
than the than the defense, and I think that they
could use a lot of help. Aiden Hutchinson coming back
from injuries certainly should help. But this is a spot
where I think that they can can look to take
an edge as well. A team that's gonna have leads
in a lot of games and you know, come the
fourth quarter, turn that turn that pass, rush on and

(38:56):
get home. Give me Donovan Ezerique Dresher out of Boston College.
I think he has those kind of explosive pass rusher
traits a little bit of a raw player as of
right now. I think he still has like a ceiling
to tap into. But sixteen and a half sacks last year,
one of the more impressive players has all the kind

(39:18):
of freak ability, and I think he can continue to
get better. So give give me Ezerique. They're out of
Boston College to the to the Detroit Lions.

Speaker 3 (39:26):
Yeah, I love him a lot. You just watch his tape.
It's fun to watch. He's you for the player of
his size. He's very bendy around the edge. He can
move his body and bend in ways that is crazy,
bend around a lot of offensive lineman that is is
fun to watch. So moving on Commanders, I'm going to

(39:49):
go nick Iman warri Here, safety out of South Carolina.
I love this prospect. He dominated the combine, was very
very productive too. I think he had four picks throughout
the season. Willing tackler. Commanders need some secondary help. They
weren't very good in the pass game. I think this
guy's an immediate impact starter. He could play in the

(40:11):
box two. That's how big he is. He's a linebacker
and a safety mixed into one. At athletic one at
that So give me Nicky Manwori. Going to the Commanders.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
Yeah, that's another team that you know, very impressive year
last year, but a team that I think played like
a little bit over their head out sometimes and it's
gonna need to add some talent, as we saw, to
compete with the likes of the Eagles, especially on the
defensive side of the ball. All right, we go to
number thirty now with the Buffalo Bills. Always with the Bills,

(40:46):
I feel like Ed Drusher is kind of always one
of their main needs. And then just because it's like,
we just need more guys to be able to get
after Patrick Mahomes, or we need some guys in the
defensive backfield to be able to cover these Chiefs to
help us with Patrick Mahomes. What are they able to
do to get past them? We haven't seen it yet,
So it's kind of do they change up their strategy

(41:08):
a little bit? Potentially they might look to do that,
but I think I think Edge Rusher kind of goes
back to the question here in Shamar Stewart out of
Texas A and M. He's still available, right, yep, yep, Yeah,
So he is the definition of a raw talent. I
think with the players that they've drafted in the past
few years, he's not gonna have to play right away.

(41:29):
But you look at a guy like Gregory Rousseau. A
few years ago, he was viewed as a very.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
Kind of raw guy.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
I think he was a safety and then he had
the one big year as an edge rusher. But Shamar
Stewart some of the more freaky combine numbers we've ever seen.
I think you said out of all the eligible players,
he like ranked in the top percentile, and.

Speaker 3 (41:49):
He ranked number one one, number one on a relative
athletics score out of like almost two thousand guys since
nineteen like eighty five.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Yeah, so everything there only eleven tackles and four and
a half sacks or eleven tackles for loss and four
and a half sacks and three seasons.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
So production'sren't there.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
But one of your team, like the Bills in her
as good as you are, you don't have to throw.

Speaker 1 (42:14):
Him in there for day one.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
I think we kind of talked about it with like
jay loox Hunt with the Eagles, like he kind of
gradually played more and more as the season went on,
and then come the playoff time and from a Super
Bowl he had some pretty stellar performances. Schmart Steuer kind
of fits that description as well. So give me him
out of Texas A and m to the Bills there
at thirty.

Speaker 3 (42:35):
Yeah, I like that a lot. I think he can
also be a top fifteen pick. Like, with the traits
that he has, some team is going to see him
and like, yeah, I want that on my team. And
I know the production wasn't there at all this season.
It honestly is kind of worrisome. But at the same time,
you look at the traits, you look at the you

(42:57):
know what you can see in him in the future,
and that well, you're pretty much drafting and Shamar Stewart
thirty one Chiefs. I've seen them go offensive line a lot.
I'm gonna stick with it. I'm gonna go Josh Cornerley
or Connory out of Oregon. I love him. I think
this will be a great fit with the Chiefs. They

(43:18):
need to protect Patty. You see what happens when we
get to Patty. We got to him in the Super Bowl.
It didn't go well. So I think you get a
good young tackle, you may not have to start right away.
You beat him up to be a you know, cornerstone
tackle for the future. So give me Connory out of Oregon.

Speaker 2 (43:39):
Yeah, offensive line was certainly the big issue when you
have to move Joe Toney, who's you know, played guard
and center most of his career.

Speaker 1 (43:46):
At the tackle that that's kind of what happens.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
But speaking of the Super Bowl, one of the big
key players from that Super Bowl run for the team
picking last who that is usually the team that wins
the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
Our Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
One of the one of the key players from that squad,
Chauncey Gardner Johnson leaves and he kind of leaves a
whole there at safety. And while they like Reid Blankenship,
I don't know if I have like the confidence in
him necessarily.

Speaker 1 (44:13):
To be like, all right, we're gonna lock you up
to you know.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
A pretty large extension and make you, you know, our
safety are kind of key to our defense going forward.
And we talked about this guy last night, but they
have a track record of doing this and it's working.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
Malachi Starks safety up in Georgia. Put him in there.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
He's probably gonna play next to Read right away. But
another guy that can play kind of all over one
hundred ninety seven tackles in three years as a starter
at Georgia, twenty three passes defended and six interceptions. A
guy that's kind of all over the field. I think
he tackles well. Obviously he's going to be a well
coached player coming out of Georgia plays hard, and I

(44:50):
think you know the track record of success, you know,
with at least the last two picks, or should at
least give Howie rosemen the confidence to trust kind of
their eyes with the VBS with with.

Speaker 1 (45:00):
Cooper Degene and Quinya Mitchell.

Speaker 2 (45:01):
Let's take another one here with Malachai Starks and start
to build up that back end with with some more youth.
You know, you got a guy like Quinnon, you got
a guy like Cooper de Gene, obviously young, but then
you have read there as well. You get Malachai Starks,
you get you know, four potential starters there, all under
the age of you know, twenty five years old, twenty
six years old, kind of you know, let's rock and

(45:23):
roll and continue, continue what we're building here and just
take another Georgia guy and played simple. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (45:31):
I mean, it's like you said, if it ain't broke,
don't fix it. We've done it before. Why stop. And
these two safeties that kind of trapped Nick and Menmour
and Malachi Starks. I think both these guys could be
tough fifteen talents in this draft. I just don't know
why teams don't really value safeties like they should. Like

(45:51):
I said it yesterday with Brian Branch and Kyle Hamilton,
Like those are guys that went twelve and Branch went
even later than that. But there's a guy that our
leaders on a defense that change a whole dynamic on
a defense. So I think getting safeties like that, like Starks,
in your system is only going to help your defense.
And I can round or give us a recap here

(46:17):
of all what we got. So one Titans cam Ward
quarterback in Miami and in the Tennessee. Two Browns Travis Hunter,
three Giants Abdul Carter, four Patriots, Will Campbell, five Jaguars
Mason Graham, six Raiders, Ashton gent seven Jets, armand Membu

(46:41):
eight Panthers James Pierce, nine Saints, Shdor Sanders, ten Bears
Calvin Banks forty nine Ers eleventh, Will Johnson twelve Cowboys
Tyler Warren thirteen Dolphins, Jday barn fourteen Colts, Colston Velyn fifteen, Falcons,

(47:03):
Mike Greene sixteen Cardinals, Tet McMillan seventeen, Bengals, Jylen Walker
eighteen Seahawks, Luther Burden nineteen Bucks, Jahad Campbell twenty Bucks,
Emecca Ibuka twenty one Steelers, Jackson Dart twenty two Chargers,
Trey Harris twenty three Packers, Matthew Golden, twenty four Vikings,

(47:27):
Maxwell Harriston twenty five Texans, Josh Simmons twenty six Rams,
Benjamin Morrison twenty seven Ravens, Mikeel Williams, twenty eight Lions,
Donovan as a rockho not saying that right, twenty nine Commanders,
Nick Immy Moury, thirty Bills, Schamar Stewart, thirty one Chiefs,

(47:51):
Josh Connerly thirty two Eagles. Malachi starts to end the
first round.

Speaker 2 (47:58):
And I was kind of looking at some of the
guys that we didn't have gone. You knows, some of
these top big boards. And Marion Hampton running back out
of North Carolina, doesn't go in the first round.

Speaker 1 (48:09):
Derek Harmon out of Oregon, right, he said.

Speaker 3 (48:12):
The defensive line, Walter Nolan and Kenneth Grant.

Speaker 1 (48:18):
Yeah, Walter Nolan.

Speaker 2 (48:21):
You know, I've seen Trevion Anderson in a couple of
monks towards like the very end. But yeah, Kenneth Grant
as well.

Speaker 3 (48:28):
Tyler.

Speaker 2 (48:31):
We had three quarterbacks as well. Right, Yeah, I assume
that line is probably the draft line is probably gonna
be like three and a half. Yeah somewhere, you know,
like we like we said, we don't really think these
mock drafts are going to hold true to form. It's
gonna be kind of all over the place and that
makes it fun. That should make for an exciting night.
But we will be back next week with two more episodes,

(48:54):
another Mark uh mock draft, joined by Mark Henry Jr.
This time doing what we would do for these teams,
and then we'll get into another one kind of just
go over you know.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
Some more big picture stuff.

Speaker 2 (49:06):
Probably doing offensive one next week and then a defensive
one the following week to wrap it up.

Speaker 1 (49:11):
But anything else Nick before we head out.

Speaker 3 (49:13):
No, I'm just excited. I can't wait for the draft.
I know it's nerdy, but I just love watching all
these prospects, like watching all these drafts. I can't wait
for it. I can't wait to see how these teams change,
how they fill holes, how they add to their depth.
So I'm excited, all.

Speaker 2 (49:29):
Right, I'll do it for this episode of Bending the Edge,
keep it locked here on Fox Sports. The Gambler follow
us on all things social. It will be talking to
you next week
