Speaker 1 (00:00):
Number one on your car radio preset hand, the new
and improved Diehard Radio app, w D yes and WD
two seven break date philadelpia Ice, Fox Sports Radio The Gambler.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hello everyone, and welcome.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Back to Paul Is King here on Fox Sports and Gambler,
Ryan Coole and Nick McLay for our weekly show. Had
a little bye week last week, but full steam ahead
now you know we are this time next week, Dick,
we'll be able to talk about a colled football game
that actually matters to Kansas State Iowa. Stay kicking off
next Saturday. Next week the game week kicks off. We
(00:38):
just wrapped up Week one of the NFL preseasons, so
you're going to talk about a little bit of everything tonight.
Highlights of week one in the preseason, some training camp news.
But then also the ap pole came out today for
college football, so touch on that towards the end.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
But Nick, another day, another day closer to football. Welcome back.
How are we?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Yeah, man, I'm excited.
Speaker 5 (00:56):
Just came back from vacation, so, you know, in the
recovery mode right now, getting back in the swing of things.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
So excited to get back into the football tour.
Speaker 5 (01:05):
Really, you know, get into week one, Week zero, and
you know, obviously, like you said, eight Peopole's coming out
just came out, so we can get into that preseason
talk about you know, all the rookies that we saw,
guys that really you know, couldn't really make a name
for themselves of this upcoming season.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
So excited to get into it. And I just can't wait.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
To really, you know, sit down and just start watching
football all weekend long.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Yeah, games that really matter are gay.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Closer and closer, but still I think some important stuff
to kind of highlight from the Week one of the preseason.
Obviously we had the Hall of Fame game a couple
of weeks ago, but this week everyone was in action.
There was certain situations where position battles are being lotched,
quarterback battles.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
I want to start off though with maybe one of
the craziest things we've ever seen on a football field.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Jaguars rookie kicker Cam Little kicks a seventy yarder, so
that means he kicks it from the using team's forty.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Seven yard line, and that's insane. Like, if you have
a guy that needs feel confident that you can roll out.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Out there every week, be able to get to the
fifty yard you git and give your team a chance.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
That's pretty insane. Each and every week.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Yeah, that's insane. And I mean he went out and tweeted.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
I don't know he was a tweet or he said
in an interview that he said, it's not going to
be his last seven yards.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
So the man has the mindset that he can kick
where on the field.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
He just goes out there and rips, which is crazy
anywhere from the fifty yard line and you're in scoring,
you know, distance is crazy to think about.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, when when you're able to just move the ball
like that and be able to be scoring this And
they're talking about it, joking about it on part of
my take today, but they're like, once you get to
the fifty, each and every possession, like they have to
feel like they could score.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
They got to hope the defense like pulls up there
end of the park.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
And that'll be a cool thing to track, interesting thing
to track this season. But I think the main Week
one storyline kind of from the preseason was Shadre Sanders
and his performance as he elevated himself in the contention
to be the Brown starting quarterback this year. But Nick,
What were your thoughts on on his overall performance? Still
came out on the depth chart that he's still ranked.
(03:19):
US are listed as their fourth quarterback. So thoughts on
Shrador in that first week.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Yeah, I mean he did what he had to do
with Blaco Gabriel and pick it all out. I mean,
the only thing you can ask for is it's an
opportunity and a chance, and he got that and he
you know, ran with it. He want two touchdowns over
two hundred yards and he really looked clean or one
thirty I'm sorry, and he really looked clean in the
pocket to he looked like, you know, when it was
(03:45):
breaking down, he could escape. Well. I mean, he really
looked like he was understanding the offense and what his
receivers were going to do. I don't know how really
how it'll translate once you know, real stuff goes on.
But I think, you know, he made the most of
the opportunity and that's really all you can do.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, for him to be able to go out there,
and I didn't think, like just watching the clips, he
looked comfortable. He kind of looked apart, but also at
the same time, you know, let's take all this with
a grain of salt. It's still is preseason, it still
has a lot to go, but hopefully he gets continues
to get more reps Dill and Gabriel.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Hopefully he got there to get some reps on.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
But that Browns quarterback spot is going to be, you know,
a talking point throughout this entire season, because I really
think there's a chance we see three four different players
start a game at quarterback for the Browns. We know
Kenny Pitt's not gonna be their longer man, so we
know Joe Flack is not gonna be their long tim
nce here, give give these young guys a shot, and
if not, it looks like next year's quarterback class has
a lot of intriguing players. So to go back over
(04:44):
to the to the quarterback discussion, though, Colts are a
team that are in the thick of a quarterback battle,
Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Anthony Richardson unfortunately he hurts his.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Finger early on in the game, and then Daniel Jones
obviously it goes in thoughts on kind of that situation,
Anthony Richardson once again getting knocked out with an injury.
Can Daniel Jones be the starting quarterback this year. What's
your makings of that situation?
Speaker 5 (05:10):
Yeah, I mean I've been trying to be on the
Anthony Richardson train since he came out, and he it
just there's been nothing to really show for it.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
He just can't stay healthy.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
I think they have a great receiving corps too, with
you know, obviously Tyler Warren, you got Pittman, you know,
Alec Pearce, Josh Downs. Did he mention I love their targets.
Can he stay on the field. He can't their offensive
lines and do it. But he paid Also, Daniel Jones
fourteen million dollars. Is he just sit there on the bench?
That to me would be kind of be crazy. So
I think realistically, if Anthony Richardson doesn't play well in
(05:41):
the first few weeks of the season, they're gonna have
no other choice but to play Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
I think if you're walking to a situation where you're
gonna be counting on Daniel Jones to be your starting quarterback,
you know, Shane Stikeen might be out of a job
this time next year. I do Daniel Jones could be
you know, sufficient enough to win you six seven games.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Kind of put you in that ballpark.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
But I think long term, if you're gonna want something
to happen, Anthony Richardson has to be your guy.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
I think we already know what Daniel Jones is.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
I would still give Daniel ar chuse me, Anthony Richardson
kind of that first crack at it, that first opportunity
to go out there and play.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
And then if you know things.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Are going south, then you turn to Daniel Jones, because
I think you know what you're gonna get from him,
Anthony Richardson, you still gott to hope that there's.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Some potential to tap in there.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Let's go to our team, the hometown squad, Philadelphia Eagles
don't really play anyone meaningful. The cornerback two spot was
something to point two because the Bengals go out there,
they played Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase T. Higgins and they
kind of go up and down the field at the
beginning on the Eagles. But the Eagles wind up winning
that game thirty four to twenty seven. The main kind
(06:49):
of discussion point though, on this team right now, on
the defensive side of the ball, is that cornerback number
two spot. What're your thoughts on that? Matchup. You know,
Dori Jackson, Kiel a Ringo and now they bring in
jack Ryan Bennett as well. Sitting here in August eleventh,
who do you think is going to be the starting
corner for the Eagles on September fourth?
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Yeah, I really want it to be I really wanted
it to be Ringo.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
But if he's going to be up against you know,
he's gonna be up against the top guys in the NFL. Obviously,
you know, Jamar Chase is the best receiver in the league,
justin Jefferson right there too. But you face a guy
like him and he really doesn't have the experience Ringo,
You're probably gonna get torched out there.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
So he was kind of set up, you know, not
to fail.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
But we've been waiting for three years for him to
really make that breakout and he just really hasn't made
that step.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
I really want him to. He's got the talent, he's
got the trades. It just in his head.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Can you really, you know, put together you know, his
reaction time, his awareness, anticipation.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
He really can't, you know, he hasn't put that all
together yet.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
So right, I guess I like it with the veteran
and Adorri Jackson, but I think Bennett have just won
the job by sitting on the sidelines, honestly.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Yeah, that's still something I think we're gonna have to
monitor over these next few weeks. And I also would
take it kind of that first performance obviously wasn't great
from either at Dory.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Or Ringo, but you're going up against you March Chas
and Joe Burrow.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Those guys are doing that to most people in the NFL,
and you don't have, you know, your past rushers out there,
you don't have the rest of your secondary. So I
think the joint practices this week will be kind of
big to monitor against the Browns. Not the greatest receiver corps,
but you know, I think who's the Browns judy on
those squads that, Yeah, that these guys are going to
(08:29):
be matched up with. So looking forward to that. But
some big news out of the joint practice last night,
Landon Dickerson goes down with a knee injury. But we
got some big news today that it seems like it's
just going to be a few weeks.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
It sounds like it's a meniscus thing.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Just thoughts on that position right now with Dickerson out,
who would you slide into that guard spot? Would you
shuffle around some people on that line? And then when
Dickerson gets back. How worried are you that this is
going to be an injury that potentially lingers throughout the season.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
I think initially you try to do Kenyon Green and
see if Allen could really revamp that career. I mean,
he was a first round pick for a reason. He
really hasn't shown anything though, uh since he got to
the NFL. I don't know if you want to bove
Steen out of what he's been playing right now and
kind of just flip flip them right before week one,
So I think you kind of move over to move
(09:16):
Green into that spot. It doesn't work out, I mean,
you drafted a couple pieces hopefully, you know, like I said,
Stoutlin could really revamp their guys, you know, career.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
But it kind of.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Does worry me that it could be a lingering injury
for a big guy like him. That kind of scares me.
You know, to have much weight his legs are carrying
every single practice, every single snap, you know what I mean,
Like like that does worry me a bit. But the
fact that it was just came out that he could
be ready by week one. I think it's you know,
(09:47):
positive sign heading in the positive direction.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
A real tough guy too, I think one of the
tougher players We've seen him battle through injuries before playing
for the Eagles. I as of right now, I'm probably
expecting him to be out there and to be playing
in that season opener. But if the Eagles want to
be smart about it, you know, keep him out until
Week three or something, I wouldn't be mad about.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
That as well.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
I think it's much more important to be able to
have Landon Dickerson over the course of the entire season
into a hopefully long playoff run then it is to
have him out there on opening night. It would be
great to have him out there, one of the best
guards in the league, but it's a situation where I'm
not rushing him back if he's not ready.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
You know, even if he's ninety percent. Let's get him
to one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Let's get that O line all together, fully healthy and
back where it needs to be, not where we're rotating
guys in each and every week trying to fill in
for him. So that's gonna be something in the monitor,
But sitting here today, it sounds like we kind of
dodged a bullet. Let's go over to another team in
the NFC East, the New York Giants.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
They roll out Jackson Dart.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
He plays some pretty good football against the Bills in
their preseason opener twelve nineteen, one hundred and fifty four
yards and a touchdown. Sitting here today on August eleventh,
do you think there is a game this year where
we see Jackson Dart starting quarterback for the Giants or
do you think Russell Wilson runs with it all the
way through.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
I really wouldn't be surprised if we do see Jackson's
Dart dark play. Honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if
you see Jamis play. I wouldn't be like they could
see three four guys, you know, starting a game in
the season, not be surprised, especially with how the season
is going to go on. If they're out late in
the season, they're gonna want to develop the young guy
for next year. They're not gonna want to play the
(11:25):
old guys. I know, you pay them the money, you know,
to play to see the field. But if they're out
of playoffs, which they're well likely they're probably gonna have
one of the fewest wins in the season the league.
I just think there, you want to, you know, prepare
him for next season. You want to prepare him for
you know, what this offense is.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Going to be.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
So I would not be surprised if Dark you know,
starts slinging the rock towards the end of season.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Yeah. And it's a situation too where I always kind
of point to it with head coach and GM on
the hot seat, like and this was kind of like
to correlate to college football, like last year with Billy Napier.
I'm in the j Lagwaites. You got this guy, your
seats as hot as can be. You got the guy
that's the number one quarterback potentially in the country. And
he was flushed into the lineup due to Graham MERT's injury.
(12:09):
But still he came in, he played well, the team
rallied around him, and look, he saves his job and
now Florida ranks, you know, enters the season in the
top twenty five. This year, you know, you can look
at the Giants and where it's all right, just say
they go six and eleven, but three of those games
are three of their last.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Four games they win, and Jackson Darts the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Like I think Brian Dabole and Joe Shane, we had
an opportunity to come back and kind of see this
draft pick through. So's a situation where if things aren't
going good with Russ as the starter, I say you
put in the young guy because it's really the only
way that you can kind of look at, you know,
management and or ownership basically be like, give us another
chance with this guy.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Look what we're able to do with him. So I'm
with you.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
I think we're going to see Jackson Dart at some
point this year. Wouldn't surprise me. You know, if it's
even at the quarter mark of this season, if Russell
Wilson's not out there playing well.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
They could turn to the young kid right away. So
interested to see there just a couple other quick hitters.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Caleb Williams doesn't play for the Bears in the game
against the Dolphins yesterday on Sunday afternoon. It seems like
everything we've heard he's had a rough training camp, rough performances,
like not really picking up the offense all that. Well,
are you on board with the Bear sitting him out
of that game, or do you think that he should
be out there getting reps in this new Ben Johnson offense.
Speaker 5 (13:21):
Honestly, I think he should be getting reps out there,
especially you know he with what things coming out in
training camp hasn't produced really into training camp.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
From all the reports.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
You know, Johnson comes over in the new, completely new offense,
and we know how we vamped that offense. Is how
deep that bag of tricks that he has, So he's
gonna have to get out there, get the experience, get
the cashphe with his guys, and he's not doing it.
So maybe plays in the future a couple of games.
But I think the earlier you get out there, earlier,
getting that chemistry earlier, you know the system. So I
(13:54):
think it's should have he should have played. In my opinion,
I think.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Yeah, I definitely I think Kayleb Williams should have played.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
I'm high on him still, Like if his stock is
at its low point right now, I'll buy a bunch
of it because I'll buy in on the talent and
from what we know about Ben Johnson, a really good
offensive coach. You look at that team and a lot
of talent. I think he just kind of got it.
Has to play within the system. Like look at Jared
Goffa as a prime example and what he did, what
he was able to kind of turn his career around
into Look what brock Perty did with Kyle Shanahan. These
(14:24):
offensive mining coaches need a guy that can just go
in there and run the system, and Caleb Williams sometimes
just plays a little bit too much hero ball, a
little bit too much backyard football.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
He's got to stay within that offense. I think that
takes time.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
It takes reps with some of these guys, especially player
like Caleb who's just.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Kind of won and thrived on talent his entire career.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
Now that you're in a system, it it's a little
bit different that a system that has shown a track
record of success or track record of working. So I
think he should definitely get some more reps and play.
But maybe he's just not ready. Maybe they don't want
to throw him out there and hurt his confidence, and
that kind of worries me for the long term future
of this kind of pairing with Kayleb Williams and Ben Johnson.
But Ben Johnson is on the record saying like this
(15:03):
is the reason why he wanted to go to the Bears.
He could have probably had any job out there this cycle,
and he chose the Bears to be able to work
with Caleb Williams. So that's gonna be something everyone's having
their eye on throughout this season.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Last quarterback question, real quick.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Tyler Shuck plays a lot for the Saints yesterday fifteen
of twenty two, one hundred and sixty.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Five yards and a touchdown. Thoughts on him?
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Should he be the number one quarterback there? Or would
you give more the Spencer Rattler route. I think it's
clear cut that the Saints teams can be the worst
in the NFC. Maybe the Giants at will have something
to say about that. But thoughts on the Saints quarterback situation.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
I mean, they'll probably do just shocked just because they
drafted in that high. I don't understand really why they
did that. I get, you know, you don't have anyone else.
Pencer Rautler really hasn't done anything either, You're I think.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
It's worst case scenario.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
Honestly, I don't think there's going to be any success
really in that quarterback growing.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
I do think he is. I guess he's got you know,
the traits. It's just he can't put it all together.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
He's old, he's injured, he's they don't have really any weapons.
I don't think the same time anything going for them. Honestly,
I think Spencer Ratler would be more exciting to watch.
I think they're both. I think Spencer or Shock is
probably the more smart player or you know, he'll make
the right decision, and Spencer will want to do the
(16:25):
home run plays, the backyard tetball that you were talking about.
I think they'll go Shock of what they drafted, and
if it goes that goes bad quickly.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Ratler is going to be right.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
In all right, let's transition over to the college side
of things, get a little college football talk in. We
are less than two weeks away now from your Iowa
State side Clones and the Kansas State Wildcats kicking off
the season over in Dublin, Ireland. Ape Pole comes out
today officially. Last week we had the coaches bull This
(16:58):
week we get the eight people. A lot similarities as expected,
some teams moving a spot or two, but headline are
Texas at number one, Penn State at number two, Ohio
State at three. So Penn State and Ohio state flip
flop there we will get number one Texas or number
three Ohio State. In week one, we get number six
Notre Dame, number ten Miami in week one as well,
number four Clemson versus number nine LSU in week one
(17:21):
and in week zero even we got number seventeen kse
State at number twenty two I of State.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
We'll start off with your side Clones, Nick.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Were you surprised to see them checking in to the
top twenty five just to start the season and they
are the second ranked Big twelve team behind Kansas State
and then Texas Tech the third Big twelve team Prak
in the top twenty five as well.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Yeah, I'm we're surprised here in the top twenty five.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
I think Kansas State, Texas State, and definitely ours in
a state to me are better than Io State.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
I would say lost so much.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
I do love Roco Beck, Matt Campbell, great coach. Not
going to knock that. I think your defense is going
to be all right. I just think the weapons are
really depleted. You lose two thousand yard receivers, it's gonna
be hard to, you know, fulfill that this season. I
know that you got two good transfers coming in from
East Carolina, and I think it's UCF.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
But I just I don't see them beating a team
like Texas.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Tech that brought in all that talent, team like Arizona
State that brings back all that talent, team like Kansas
State with Avery Johnson at the front.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
I just think to me right now, on paper.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
I'm not too high on Iowa a fan, but you know,
I'm gonna be obviously even a root for them.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
I do think I think Kansas State does route US.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
I think Avery Johnson's gonna run throw for like three hundred,
maybe run for three or three hundred and fifty rushing,
passing a couple of touchdowns. I just I'm not sold
on this Ioas eight team just yet.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Yeah, I left.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
I left that Arizona State. They actually are the number
one ranked team in the Big twelve. Check it in
out eleven there, So I'm eleven, seventeen, twenty two, and
twenty three.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
I had the Big Twelve to start it off.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
But I guess, just you know, consensus big picture for
this top twenty, when you're looking at it, what team
pops out to the most that you're like, Wow, this
team is too high, and I think we're overrating them
to start the season.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
I think we're gonna be on the same page as
as you know each other.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
But Miami at ten, I hate Miami at ten. I
think I think you said it earlier.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
I think by the time a couple of weeks into
this season, I don't think they'll be ranked. And I
think about that, like, why would they Why were they
ever a top ten team?
Speaker 4 (19:26):
I really don't.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
I like they got a good offensive line, a couple
of good pieces on defense too, but other than that,
quarterback position is a huge problem, and I don't think.
I'm not buying in the Carson back in this system
at all, especially with their head coaches.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
Well, I don't think.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
They're they're gonna match yeah, especially I'm not liking it.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
Yeah, they have a real tough Week one matchup two
with Notre Dame. They don't get a chance to ease
into it. I'll ride with Notre Dame defining that one.
I'm interested to see what the official number is that's
the Sunday after now game.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
I believe Notre Games are two and a half.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
Point favorite, Like, I think that is a chance that
we can beat Stealing money from it being it's at Miami,
so you know, give them the benefit of the doubt
of the home stadium. But the Miami Hurricanes on Labor
Day weekend, I don't really think are going to be
packing out that stadium necessarily. I think that crowd is
probably even gonna be more pro Notre game.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
So Notre Dame.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Minus two and a half week one, that might be
one of the best plays of the season so far
that we know of.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
As of this moment.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
We're both very down on this Miami team, and I
think we certainly look back and they're I'm not gonna
say as bad as Florida State was last year, which
was to and ten. It's gonna be hard to be
that bad, I think if you're Miami. But when you're
sitting there at number ten this season, expectations going into
it right now on paper that they would be the
second team out of the or in the ACC they
(20:52):
would most likely be in the College Football playoffs, So
it's a lot of pressure on them going into the year.
I think we look back this time next season, we're like, Wow,
Miami should have never been in that top twenty five.
Pretty insane there. How about Michigan checking in at number fourteen.
You know, they finished the year on a strong note.
They take down Alabama in the bowl game, they take
down Ohio State obviously in the last game in the
(21:13):
regular season.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
They bring in.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Five star freshman quarterback Bryce under What and it's a
team last year that found their way to what nine
and four and they couldn't throw the football for more
than five yards. They were the worst passing yard yards
per game team besides the Service Academy. So you take
out notre or you take out Navy, you take out
Air Force, you take out Army, the worst passing yards
per game. As we know, those teams are all option teams.
(21:36):
The worst team throwing the football last year was Michigan.
They come in at number fourteen, riding some momentum. What
are your thoughts on them?
Speaker 2 (21:43):
And obviously can that passing game get better this season?
Speaker 5 (21:46):
Yeah, I kind of think they're rank kind of where
they should be anywhere. I think fourteen to like seventeen eighteen.
I kind of saw them bottoming out at eighteen. They
got a lot of things to figure out with that
passing game. Is Underwood able to do that? I think
he can do that and if he can, I think
this Michigan team can go really far. And like you said,
(22:07):
this is a big ten that is very dominant, Like
they need to beat the big guys, and they have
been beating them in the previous seasons. But this is
when you got to make that step. This is you know,
that year where you got to you got to push
on offense. You have to with the guys that you
brought in. So I think they're ranked pretty pretty you know,
right where they're supposed to be. I think in the end,
(22:28):
they're going to be battling for for you know, a
top ten spot.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I think really I think that I think that they're
gonna be good.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
I think they take a jump, but it's still a
ton of pressure on a young quarterback. And I do
think that he's obviously going to elevate that offense. They're
going to be better than they want. They were last
year just doesn't have the greatest group of pass catchers.
Like even with the terrible passing offense, if they had
last year, they still lose Colson Lovelin. I think it's
just a ton of pressure on a young guy. It's
(22:55):
gonna have his ups and downs. But I think they're
going to kind of be in that nine to three
to eight four range. Does that get them to number fourteen?
Maybe kind of right there in the mix. But I
think it's just a little bit too much pressure on
a young quarterback. This year.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
We saw kind of like what happened with Dylan ryo
Ol last year. He's going to have his moments, going
to take his lumps.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
But you look at some of these top tier teams,
a lot of them have much more experienced guys at
the quarterback spot. So any other quick notes on the
top twenty five. A team in there that you're like, oh,
I was surprised to seeing that low. I think they'll
be finished in top ten surprise, or another team on
this list where you're not really seeing it and thinking, wow,
that team was.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
A little bit too high at the stage of the season.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
No, the only really one I want to talk about
is Oklahoma. I don't know where I think I should
want them to be ranked. I think just the roster
is better than Kansas State. I think they're better than SMU.
I think the eighteen might be low for me.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
I think I'm very high on them. It's just their
schedule is so tough.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
Their coach doesn't give him any hope, and there's so
many new moving pieces coming into that team.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
So kind of like, what are your thoughts called Oklahoma
at eighteen?
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Yeah, I think what you were kind of saying about Michigan.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
I think Oklahoma is kind of right in that sweet
spy Like I probably would have had them between fifteen
and twenty because if they're a team that lives up
to the hype, lives up to their expectations, John Mattier
play as well, and he does what he was brought
in to do with with their offensive coordinator Ben Rbuckle,
it's a team that I could see hitting and being
one of the surprise teams and finishing top ten in
(24:26):
and going to the College Football Playoff. But you look,
you can make an argument that they have maybe the
toughest schedule in the entire country.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
They they could fall out of the top twenty five.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
But I think if they finished say seven and five,
eight and four, and you saw number eighteen next to
their name at the beginning of the year, like okay,
you know, not that crazy of of a downward spiral, But.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
It is Oklahoma. That was my take on them. You know,
a few weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
It's like, expectations shouldn't be just because we moved into
the SEC.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
It's like, oh, it's okay to go eight and four now.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Like no, like when Lincoln Riley was there, they're winning
the Big Twelve every year, they're going to the College
Football Playoff.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
They were producing Heigsman quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
This is expect of one of the best programs in
the entire country. So Oklahoma B and eighteen, like from
their fans perspective, from the student body, they should be
kind of like considered that disrespectful.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
Same thing with like Michigan. Like Michigan just because they
won the.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
National championship two years ago, they got a pass for
having it down here last year, Like, no, you should
be ahead of South Carolina. You should be ahead of Illinois,
you should be ahead of Arizona State. So two programs
there kind of in that mix, Michigan, Oklahoma, and I
think maybe even on Florida in there as well. National powers,
you know, blue blood type programs. Expectations should be to
be competing for conference championships and the playoff.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
So I think there's that that kind of cluster of
schools there. I have a lot of pressure on them
as we had into the season.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
Yeah, I agree, and even you can cluster at Auburn
into that. Right, they're not one of the ranked ones,
but I think they've a lot of pressure on.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
The on the you know, especially with the coach.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
So I think them bringing in Arnold two a lot
of pressure over there in the SECA.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Yeah, I think they have a lot of pressure on them.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
Josh hypel with with letting Nico walk out the door,
