Speaker 1 (00:00):
Number one on your car radio preset hand the new
and improved Diehard Radio, Wayes and WD two seven three
D Philadelphia. I is Fox Sports Radio The Gambler.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Bring on in here to another episode of Football is
King Here on Fox Sports The Gambler, Ryan Coyle and
Nick McLay back for our weekly episode breaking down everything
you need to know college and NFL. Last week was
our first episode that we went from twenty five minutes
to forty five minutes. Gonna continue rolling with that going
(00:36):
forward here on The Gambler. Big week in college football.
Kind of want to touch on a couple of those
key games from last week. The NFL obviously always an
evolving discussion and topics, but we got plenty of games
to get into on that side this week.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
I'm a big time college card this week.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Not as big time, high profile matchups as last week,
but some teams that I'm really curious to get your
thoughts on, Nick and get into. We got teams like
Virginia Football making ways with the upset over Florida State
last week. They have a big time matchup against an
undefeated Louisville squad this week. Bama versus Vandy. Bama looking
to get their revenge from Vandy from last year the
(01:13):
night game.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
You got Miami and Florida State. So a lot to
talk about.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
This week, but welcome back, Nick, a big week of
football and shout out to you. Let's not hope we
jinx it, but you've been one of the hottest gamblers
on the planet over the past week in both NFL
and MLB plays.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
Yeah, and hopefully we can keep this going. I know,
the the props have been hot, the baseball has been hot,
but the college football has been kind of you know,
give or take here and there. So hopefully we can
get back on the horse with the college football players.
But there's a lot you know, the slate doesn't you
look at it and it doesn't really jump out to you,
but there's a ton of games that you know, we
(01:49):
can get a couple upsets that really changed the landscape
of you know, the ap pole the college football as
a whole. So I know, you know, you look, you
see the matchups on paper, there's only two i think
rank ranked matchups, but there are a lot of matchups
in this in this week that could that could really
you know, do some damage as the season goes on.
(02:10):
Schedule wise, So I know, like you said, a lot
to get into and came with to get into it.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I want to before we fast forward to this week,
I want to kind of rewind to last week real
quick and just hit on like one kind of big
picture question where obviously there was two I'm not gonna
call them major upsets, but still they were upsets, with
Oregon going to Penn State and winning, and then Alabama
going to Georgia and winning, you know, coming out of
that one, which was the more surprising of the two
(02:38):
in terms of the outright upset actually happening, and then
out of those four teams, like, are you super down
on one team after that that performance?
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Are you super up on one team?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Is kind of your overarching thoughts on those both to
those biggest matchups of the week last week, I.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Think Georgia I think was more shocking. I think just
based off of it was in Georgia. I know, so
is Penn State, but we've never seen Penn State get
over that hump, so I kind of wasn't too surprised
by that. I still think all four of those teams
are probably playoff teams. I know, you know, Penn State
is out of those four teams, the team that you
(03:14):
kind of look at and are probably worried about the most.
I mean, they still haven't gotten over the hump, and
I just saw one of their best defensive players in Rojas,
is going to be out for some time. So I
think that that's a worried Drew Aller hasn't really jumped
off offensively. I mean, I just think that that team
as a whole has more concerns than Georgia, than Alabama
(03:37):
and Oregon. I think Oregon has looked really good to
start down. Taymore has really shown why he's at this
point the favorite to win the Heisman right now, and
High Simpson I think is right behind him too. So
I think them two quarterbacks have really shown why, you know,
they could take their teams to the top of their
conferences in the Big Ten and the SEC. So I
think Georgia was a little bit of a surprise loss
(03:58):
for me, But I don't think that, you know, kind
of hurts them. I think they kind of get back
on the saddle this week. But I think Penn State
there's a lot a lot of question marks with that
Penn State team.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Yeah, I'm walking out of last week definitely more concerned
with Penn State than any of those teams that we
saw kind of play in the primetime. It's just same old,
same old, Like we're gonna see them probably go ten
to two if they as long as they take care
of business at home against Indiana, and that's by far
easier said than done. But you have to assume they're
gonna lose that game against Ohio State and then once
again their two biggest games on their schedule of the
(04:29):
entire year, they lose. Like, did Drew Aller really get
any better from when he first started as a quarterback
to when.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
He is now?
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Andy coldle Nicky That offense I don't really think has
taken off, Nick Singletons having by far the worst year
of his career. Like it's kind of just same old,
same old, and there's no been real progression. I think
it's more so a straight kind of plateau for that
Penn State program.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
And man, this was supposed to be the year.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
This was supposed to be the year that they finally
put it together, finally got over the top, got over
that mountain, and it just seems like same old, same old,
like daj Voo all over again. You were kind of
just watching that game unfold and you just had that
in the back of your mind and it's like, Wow,
this really is going to happen again. So it's a
situation where you have to assess, like, if is this
the program that we're content with being because Franklin's going
(05:13):
to have you right there at nine and three, ten
and two in the mix every year, or do you
really think that you are a national title worthy and
that you can make that next leap and if so,
you might have to switch things up. So you leave
that game with a lot of question marks if you're
a Penn State fan, Penn State administrator, whatever you want
to call it, nil donor do you really want to
believe it in this regime anymore with James Franklin. And
(05:35):
there's a lot of season to be played out still,
for sure, no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Indiana is a huge matchup. Ohio State's a huge matchup.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
And then you're you're most likely as long as you
take care of that business and go ten and two,
you'll be in the playoff. But you're probably not going
to go to the Big ten title game. You have
a lot of ball left to be played to, right
some of these wrongs, but it's just looking like deja
vu all over again for Penn State. So I believe
that game, being very concerned about them. They got a
game this week against UCLA. I'll see if they can
get back up off the mat against what we might
(06:03):
say is the worst power for a team in the
country and put a beatdown on them, because that's what
Penn State does against these inferior opponents more times than not.
So that'll be an interesting spot to watch how that
team recovers and responds this week. But Nick, I want
to go fast forward now to your team. This week
on Saturday at noon on ESPN two, I have a
State comes in this matchup at five and oh number
(06:25):
fourteen in the country. They'll travel to Cincinnati, who's three
and one, coming off a win outright as a four
and a half point underdog last week against Kansas. Iowa
State though is currently on DraftKings a one and a
half point dog here on the road over under fifty
two and a half. Nick, why are the Cyclones underdogs?
And what am I missing in this spot? One?
Speaker 4 (06:49):
It's a way and two of our top defensive backs
are out in Jeremi Cooper and Jentels Williams. So that's
gonna be tough for our secondary. But I mean, this
is a team that started out five and oh straight year,
and before last season, they didn't have a five and
oh start since nineteen eighty And if they do end
up going six and oh, that'll be before last season
six and o start, that's the last time since nineteen
(07:10):
thirty eight since they had six wins. So you know,
this is this is a crazy run that Matt Campbell
has kind of put on this Cyclone team. And on
the flip side, like you said, Cincinnati's three and one,
three straight wins since their opening game lost against Nebraska,
and have you know obvious since the line movement, now
they're the favorite here at home. I think I'm obviously
going to go to the Cyclones here. But this is
(07:30):
a Cincinnati team that you kind of have to respect,
coming off that nice win over Kansas in Kansas too
as underdogs, and you know Iowa State they had that
pretty dominant win over Arizona last week where they look
really balanced both run game, pass game, and the defense
knows how to get off the field. Only fourteen points
allowed per game, eighteenth in the Country and only allowed
(07:50):
twenty points in one game, and it was in weeks
zero in Ireland against Kansas State. So I know overall,
you know, Iowa State, they don't really have that too
many impressive wins in the state. Doesn't really jump about
it you. I don't think points per game seventeenth. I
(08:15):
think Soresby kind of has that offense moving. This kind
of feels like a toss up. I'm just gonna go
with my guys in the Cyclones two really tough, typical
Big twelve teams. I think Rocco bec can kind of
go out there put on a show with his arm
and his legs. Give me I was State twenty eight,
Cincinnati twenty four in this one.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Yeah, I thought that matchup last week against Arizona was
a funky line as well for Iowa State.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
That was a bit of a trap line.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
But I still laid it with Iowa State and they
won that game comfortably. So it's a situation where I
think I might just go back to the well with
them in this one and bank on them just finding
a way to win, especially as an underdog getting them
at plus money. I think top to bottom they're a
better team than the Cincinnati squad, So I'm gonna go
with Iowa State there as well. Like the under two,
I think we're in probably like a twenty four to
(09:01):
twenty type of range there. All right, let's go to
the SEC now, three point thirty on ABC Saturday afternoon,
the College Game Day game of the week, number sixteen
Vanity five and zero obviously last year, takes down Alabama.
They will travel to Tuscaloosa this week, though Alabama revenge
on their mind. As number ten in the country, they
sit there at three and one, coming off that monumental
(09:21):
win over Georgia, the first road win for any team
at Georgia since twenty sixteen. Bama, though in nine and
a half point favorite over on their fifty six and
a half.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Nick, do you think Diego's got some more magic up
a sleep this week?
Speaker 4 (09:33):
I think, you know, in this one. I think Alabama
has had this circle for since the game last year
coming and they're coming off huge win in Georgia. Like
you said, not many people go to Georgia and win,
So I think Alabama's rolling a lot of momentum into this,
you know, type of bulletin type of game, you know.
Vanderbilts looked really good Pavia, you know, trying to make
his case for Heisman, currently seventeen to one right now,
(09:56):
and that many team has some juice coming into this one.
Scored points in every game so far and averaging forty
nine points per game, which is fourth in the country.
So you know, they're trying to show this country that
they're not just a cinderella story after last season. They're
trying to show that they're legit in the SEC. But
I think Alabama's playing some good football right now, Ty Simpsons,
as we touched on second in the Heisman at plus
(10:18):
eight to fifty behind Dante Moore. Eleven hundred and thirty
eight passing yards, eleven touchdowns and no picks, so fifty
seven yards on the ground in two touchdowns on the
ground as well, so he can do it all. And
their defense has looked really good, like especially last week,
twenty one points of Georgia only one hundred and thirty
passing yards, so you know, and also Alabama's offensive lines
like really well, one of the best offensive lines coming
(10:39):
into the season and as of now, fourteenth best pass
blocking grade in the country. So I think heading into
this game they kind of have a similar mindset to
Georgia where they're kind of playing this they got to
run the table. These are must win games after that
early loss to Florida State. But you know, Alabama's kind
of struggled against mobile quarterbacks. We've seen that, especially against
Florida State. So you know, Diego Pavia could go off
(11:01):
in this, but I think they look at that tape.
They look at the tape from last year. I think
this game just means a lot more to Alabama in
this one with especially how last year went. So I think,
especially with it being in Tuscaloosa, give me Alabama. I
think they cover the points here too.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
I'm with you.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
I think Alabama has had this one whatever you want
to say, circle highlighted, you know, X marks the spot
and sharpy on their calendar since the schedule came out
and they found out that they were going to have
the chance at redemption this year against against this Vanderbilt squad,
and Diego Pavia, if he.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Finds a way to win this one, he might just
have some.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Devil magic up his sleeve that we might not see
for a long long time.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Again in college football.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
And hats off to him, Props to him for the
way he's played, in the way he's really ignited life
into this Vanderbilt program. It's crazy to see them sitting
here at five and zero in the College Game Day
Game of the Week at Alabama. Someone said, like, if
you woke them up for Macma, they went to bed
like ten years ago in that coma and they woke
up to see Vanderbilt and Alabama in the College Game
(12:00):
Day game of the Week. They probably we still wouldn't
believe you. That would probably be one of the more
shocking things of their life. So hats off to Diego
Pavia and Clark Lee down there at Vanderbilt for making
them into a relevant program. But I'm with you in
the scenario that I think Alabama's going to put it
on him in this one. A lot of guys from
that squad that lost last year are back. I know
Ty Simpson wasn't the quarterback last year, but he was
(12:21):
still a part of that program.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Kalin the Boor.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
I think that program has woken up since that Florida
State loss for sure, and it could be a pure
letdown spot for them as well in this scenario coming
off that big time win at Georgia. But it's a
scenario too, where Vanderbilt's not sneaking up on Alabama this year.
I think Alabama last year played down to their competition.
I think they respect Vanderbilt enough this year and what
they did, especially with Diego, I think that they're going
(12:45):
to win this one and win it by double digits.
Are we going to be surprised at all? If Vanderbilt
finds a way to keep this close? Now, I will
be shocked though, if they win. If Vanderbilt finds a
way to win this one, I will be shocked. But
I do like Alabama to win and to win pretty comfortably,
it never being in doubt in this one. So I'm
gonna be like thirty four to twenty Bama minus nine
and a half and for that sake, under fifty six
(13:06):
and a half as well. All right, let's go to
the ACC now. I think maybe one of the stories
of the week last week in college football was Virginia
on Friday night. I think I saw actually it was
the most watched Friday night college football game in ESPN's history,
besides any games that we're all on holidays. So that's
a pretty cool kind of record there and just goes
(13:28):
to show you, like I think the growth of the sport.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Everyone has complaints about nil the transfer.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Portal, but like I've watched more college football in the
past couple of years than ever, and it seems like
the ratings are reflecting that as well. But Virginia has
got a big time matchup this week. They're gonna live
here in the ACC. They go to Louisville, who's four
now Virginia in the top twenty five. Pretty crazy to
see that, but Louisville is a six and a half
point favorite over under sixty two and a half. We
just talked about Alabama potentially in a letdown spot after
(13:56):
a big time win at Georgia goes right back to Virginia.
Is that a letdown spot for them? Or do you
think that they can keep this one close neck? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (14:04):
I mean, these are two teams that are fighting to
make that push for the ACC title game with you know,
Clemson kind of out of the mix with how bad
they look. Obviously Miami the favorite right now minus one No.
Five in Georgia Tech at second right now at four
to twenty five. But the next two or these two teams,
Louisville at plus eight hundred and Virginia plus twelve hundred.
So even though Louisville is four to no only one
(14:24):
and three against the spread, while Virginia's four and one
both straight up and against the spread, and both teams
offensively have been putting up numbers. Virginia's averaging forty five
point six points per game, which is eighth in the country,
Louisville averaging thirty two point two or thirty eight point
two points per game, twenty fourth in the country. So
I think in this one, I would roll Louisville outright.
I think if I had a lean of spread, i'd
(14:47):
lean Virginia with that many points, I think this is
going to be a one score game with kind of
you know, the home team coming out on top. Louis
will Louisville has won seven straight games going back to
the last season, Virginia's lost four have let the last
five road game, and the home team has covered spread
in each of Virginia's last six games. And you know,
Virginia has failed to cover the spread in four of
(15:07):
its last five games as an underdog. So I don't
like any of those trends. On the flip side, Louisville
hasn't covered a spread in five of its last six
home games, so I'm not trusting Louisville to cover six
and a half and now I think I saw it
at seven and a half. Two. I think this might
be a little stay away game for me, but I
(15:27):
think Louisville does win this. Both these teams operate offensively,
but I think I think I would lean Louisville out
right here at home.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Yeah, it's a spot where it's like, what what kind
of Virginia team shows up this week? Like last week
I think was really kind of their super Bowl, their
opportunity to get that primetime night game, but they didn't
really look like a fluke to me. Like I watched
that game from start to finish and Chandler Morris at
the quarterback spot looked awesome. That was a convincing performance
for them for me. So I think that they're going
to be able to hang around in this one. But
(15:59):
I really like this Louisville team at home as well,
I think, especially with Clemson falling but Miami looking really good.
But I so don't fully trust them down the stretch.
I think I think Louisville is a legit player here
in the ACC. Would be interested to see what their
number is right now, but as a team coming into
the Yuros high on, I think I had them at
nine to three. I think right now in this ACC,
(16:19):
it's a wide open conference, so I'm looking at Louisville
to potentially, like.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Maybe get a number on them to win the ACC.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
I think that with Miller mass the way that he
has kind of stepped into the quarterback spot, it's been
pretty impressive. They're actually sitting at plus eight hundred right
now to win the ACC. Miami in first at minus
one oh five, Georgia Tech at plus four to twenty five.
So the odds makers are kind of right there saying,
you know, it looks like a two worse race at
the top.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
But I think Louisville's gonna have something to say about that.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
I think that they find a way to get this
one done at home as well, and I will take
them to cover barely. I think Virginia to get back
up from that crazy game last week, it's going to
be hard. I think they're good enough though, to keep
it close. I'm going to take a little bit of
cover in that one.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
All right.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
We got about a few more minutes to touch on
some more college games. Let's go to the night one
maybe the biggest game of the week outside of the
Bama Vandy game.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Number three, Miami at four.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
And now at number eighteen, Florida State three and one
coming off the loss of Virginia. A lot of acc
talk in this episode. Put a seven thirty kick on ABC.
Miami is a four and a half point favorite over
Under fifty four and a half and Nick, we were
two of the biggest Miami and Carson Beck caters in
the world, maybe even in the entire world, and they're
making us bite our words, eat our words to start
(17:35):
the season.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
I'm still not fully bought in.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
They have had some problem problems down the stretch under
crystal ball and have lost some games that they weren't
supposed to do. But any chance that Florida State can
pull off the upset this week after getting upset by
Virginia last week against this Miami squad.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Yeah, like you said, we've been the biggest Carson Beck
and Miami hater non believers and they burnt me every
single game so far to start the year. They look
legit on both sides the ball and Carson Beck has
really made me and I guess you to eat our words.
Currently fourth in Heisman odds right now at eleven to
one from you know, not thinking he'd be able to
make this team to the playoffs, to potential national championship contenders. So,
(18:14):
you know, in Florida State, the year, you know started
as good as you could have imagined with a win
over Alabama. But they're coming off that tough loss against Virginia,
so a situation where they need to bounce back if
they still want to contend in this acc and get
a chance here and home against one of the top
teams in the country. But this Miami defense is up
there with one of the best in the nation, only
allowing eleven and a half points per game and not
(18:35):
allowing over twenty four points yet in a game this year.
So I think this FSU offense, you know, it is
dangerous and you know can scheme up many different ways
to have success. I just think Miami's defense is in
another level than what you know Florida State can produce.
Even with it being a home game for Florida State,
I think this is it's going to be a tight
game the whole way, And I kind of think this
is where the game Miami kind of turns up towards
(18:57):
the end of the game, makes the plays that need
to happened, And you know, I just trust Miami more
overall to up the bottom up to this point from
what we've seen. So I'm gonna go to Miami here
to cover the points here. Twenty eight, twenty one.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Yeah, this is a spot that reminds me kind of
like Illinois last week with USC, where it's it's not
as big of a loss, But for Florida State to
lose to Virginia outright last week, that was a gut
punch for sure.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
And Illinois had obviously the week before had a huge
gut punch with a sixty three ten loss, but they
were able to get up off the mat and they
found a way to win that game against USC at
home as an underdog outright.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
This is a very similar spot I think for Florida.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
State, like can you get back up off the mat
four and a half point underdog here at home? You know,
I thought maybe that would have been even closer to
six and a half seven, a little bit similar to
that Illinois USC line. But ken Florida State get back
off the mat, that's really the question on this one.
It's gonna be a stay away from me kind of
to make a pick against the spread. Most likely, we'll
(19:59):
see how the umber looks before kickoff. But Mike Norvel
and Florida State last year didn't really handle adversity well.
We saw when it got going south that that team
really kind of crumbled and folded down the stretch, not
even down the stretch throughout the whole season, basically from
game one, but it kind of never got better once
that adversity hit at the beginning of the season.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Is he the coach? Is he the type of guy
that can.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Lead this team off the mat and back up from
from this down kind of stretch that they had after
that that Virginia game last week, It's that was not
a catastrophic loss, but a loss where they kept coming back,
they kept fighting, they kept fighting, and it found like
they were gonna find a way at the end to
win it, and they just came up a little bit short.
What do they look like this week against arguably, if
(20:40):
not their biggest rival.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
So I'm looking forward to this one.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
It's probably just gonna be a sit and watch for
me and really trying to focus on how good this
Miami team really is. Because Miami scheduled the rest of
the way not very challenging. They have a very good
chance to go undefeated. So just gonna sit back and
watch this one. But this is a big time ACC week.
I think we're gonna find out about, excuse me, find
out a lot about these top teams, especially considering Clempsons
(21:05):
out of the mix. Own all right, Nick, any other
plays this week in collage football kind of catching your
eye before we make our way over to the NFL.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
I'm looking at the Texas Tech Houston game. I really
love this Texas Tech team, and mainly after being very
high on Utah and the way that Texas Tech handled them.
It really impressed me. And as of now they're the
favorite to win the Big Twelve at plus one eighty.
I think that defense is legit, only allowing eleven point
three points per game, eighth best in the country, and
I know their real only opponent was Utah, but only
(21:35):
allowing eleven points per game is insane. Brent Moreen has
really looked good this year, and we saw him get
hurt in the Utah game, and they brought in Will Hammond,
red shirt freshman who came in and was slinging the rock.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
So they have two.
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Guys that can really win them ball games here and Houston.
I know this start is a four to noth start,
the best start in nine years. And Connor Weigman Annisley
hasn't looked too bad to start the season. Eight hundred
and thirty nine passing yard, six touchdowns, only one pick,
one hundred and forty on the ground, four touchdowns. But
you know, for Houston, this is a great chance to
prove to the whole nation that they belong in the
top twenty five conversation. But I just think Texas Tech
(22:09):
their defense is too much for me, especially for this
Houston offense. I think I saw Houston's team total was
at twenty one and a half, I would I would
slam the under on that. I don't think. I don't
see Texas Tech giving up over twenty points, especially to
a Houston team, even if it's in Houston. So I
think give me Texas Tech. I think that I see
(22:30):
to spread it twelve and a half right now. I
would take that, and I would take Houston team total
under in that one.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
The thing with this Texas Tech team is like they
had all the flash this offseason the big portal class.
Obviously the nil infusion from this this group of collectives,
this group of boosters, but they've delivered. Like I know,
they only have one really major wins so far against Utah,
but they've looked a part. They've looked really legit. I've
been very impressed with this Texas Tech team. Not going
(22:56):
to elevate them. It's like national title contender, but clear kuise,
clear cut in my eyes so far the best team
in the Big twelve, and I think that they're a
legit chance to be a top four seed in the playoff.
Like I know, this year, the seeding doesn't really matter
based off of your conference affiliation, but I think if
they take care of business, they can really run the
(23:17):
table and go undefeated. If they do that, they'll definitely
get a top four seed. But it's been a fun
team to watch too, Like I know that they've played
some inferior opponents, but they can put up some points,
but they got some defensive dogs as well. So I
really like this Texas Tech team and I'm excited to
kind of watch their progression throughout the year.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
But Brandon Walker even said I was listening to him
on part of my.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Take today, it was like, we're still so early in
the season, Like we still don't know a lot about
these teams. Like name all the teams that you still
have questions about, like Texas, what are they like Texas Tech?
How good really is this team? Based on the opponents
that they've played. You go over to I don't know,
Notre Dame and it's like, Okay, they start out on
and two, but now they're starting to figure out two
(23:56):
and two?
Speaker 3 (23:57):
How good can they be?
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Like there's still so many questions to be answered, And
that's the beauty of the sport.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
There's so much left to be seen.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
And each week we learn a little bit more and more,
and we can believe in a team more and more,
we can fade a team more and more. It's an
exciting kind of journey that we go on throughout the
season before we make it to this twelve team playoff.
But I think that's the beauty of the twelve team playoff.
It keeps our eyes on a bunch more teams throughout
the season. So to wrap up the college football kind
of segment, here two plays that I'm eyeing as underdogs
(24:26):
this week. Cal Plus three at home versus Duke to
ten thirty Eastern time kickoffs. So that's a ten to
thirty body clock game at night for Duke, traveling all
the way across the country to play a cow team
that's coming off a loss against San Diego State where
their offense looked absolutely abysmal. For this line to be
only three, I think that's a little bit telling there.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
I like Cal outright, keep the plus three.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
I think they'll win that one at home, and then
Maryland plus six and a half at home versus Washington.
Washington traveling all the way across the country after playing
the number one team in the country in Ohio State,
they should be a little bit beat up in this one.
And Maryland's looked really good out of the out of
the gate. Six and a half a lot of points.
Maryland coming off of bye two, this arrested team, and
you get a team traveling all the way across the country.
(25:07):
That's a tough spot for Washington. Are they gonna win
this one out right Maryland? I definitely think they could.
But plus six and a half, that's a lot of points.
I'll definitely take those. So Cal plus three at home
and Maryland plus six and a half at Home Cal
playing Duke and Maryland playing Washington.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
I think those are two potential outright dogs for you there.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
All right, let's go over to the NFL card now
talk about some of the main games of the week
over there. Thursday Night Football is a pretty solid one.
But it does not look like Brock Purdy is going
to be playing. Recording this on Wednesday. This will probably
air on Thursday, right before kickoff. So forty nine ers
are three and one at the Rams three and one
eight fifteen kickoff on Amazon Prime. It was at three
(25:44):
and a half points spread. Now it's up to seven,
so pretty clear there. I think that mac Jones will
be starting and Brock perty will not. But Rams minus
seven over under for Stathnick, any props that you're looking
at in this one, because this is the avenue that
you've been really killing the books on.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
I think if there was a prop avenue I would go,
it would be Stafford's passing line. I think I saw
a two thirty to thirty five in that kind of range.
I just think, you know, he goes out and slings
the rocket. Especially in a primetime game, in a divisional
game where both teams are three and one, you know, overall,
I'm going to roll the Rams in this one. I
think I got it at five and a half before
(26:20):
Brock Purdy and also Pierceall and Juwan Jennings are all
out as well. In preseason, I took this Rams team
to win the division at plus one ninety five. Now
I'm looking at it at plus one ten with forty
nine Ers right behind him at plus ninety. Those odds
may change with you know, obviously the injuries that with
the forty nine ers heading into this one. But Rams,
(26:42):
after a meltdown loss to the Eagles, it came out
strong against an undefeated Colts team that you know, the
football world seemed to be in love with, with Daniel
Jones paying really good football. Colts defense played really well too.
But I think the Rams come out with it win,
you know, get back on the horse, especially with a
forty nine ers banged up team, and honestly even you know,
in this season so far, they haven't really looked that
quod their three and one, I get that, but they
(27:04):
have an okay win against thee allen week one. Their
other two wins are against the Saints and Arizona, where
they pretty much could have lost both of those games.
I think there were New Orleans they only one by two.
I think Arizona they only one by one. So I
think I trust McVeigh and Stafford a lot more than
I do at that Bank dub forty nine Ers team.
So I'm gonna roll with that at home to get
the job done and kind of take over this division.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
All right, Let's go to Sunday now, where the Eagles
will be playing at home this week against Denver Eagles.
I don't think all year have like a back to
back home game is pretty wild, But the Broncos two
and two, from what I heard, looked pretty.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
Good on Monday night.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
It's against a Bengals team that seems pretty dead a
little harder right now. But they'll travel to Philly to
the four and o Eagles, who you wouldn't know that
they're four and o based off the way the media
is talking about them. But at one o'clock kick on
CBS for a West Coast team traveling east always an
interesting spot there. We saw that last week with the
Chargers traveling to New York for a one o'clock kick
and find a way to lose that one Eagle is
(28:03):
only a three and a half point favorite, though Nick
over under forty three and a half.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
I think that's a little disrespectful.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
Yeah, I think I would hammer the Eagles in this one.
I think it's pretty simple for me, and it's just
continuing the trend of tailing the Eagles. This Jalen Hurts
led offense and this team just finds ways to win.
We say time and time again, but somehow this team
just gets it done. Since October one of last year,
they're twenty and one straight up, the only loss being
Washington when Jalen Hurts left the game with a concussion,
(28:31):
and at home, Hurts his twenty eight and three straight
up as a home favorite. So you know, this offensive
line honestly has kind of been a little disappointing from
what we're used to. Sequon really needs to get going,
which would really open up this offense to a whole
new level, something that we as Philly fans have been
asking for since the start of this season. We saw
Patula kind of open up the playbook, but those red
zone calls, the Dallas Goddard fake toush push run the saquon,
(28:52):
But this offense still looks like they need some juice
and so I think this is a week that we
could see that and guys have a good defense, good team.
I think they may have been a little over coming
into this season. You know, they had that nice playoff run.
I can see why people thought that on the good defense,
but I think they're a little over hyped. I think
Courtland SunNet Sutton is someone that I've been hooking up
the past few years. I think he's very underrated, one
(29:13):
of the best, most reliable receivers in the whole entire league.
So I think Q is gonna have his handful with Sutton,
but I think you can handle handle the challenge there. Overall,
I'm just gonna go Eagles. I think we're too much
for Denver all around. I'd lay the points. I think
I saw it at one point at five and a half.
Also three and a half, I would take them up
to a touchdown, I think, especially with it being at home,
(29:33):
so so the Eagles show me otherwise, I'm going to
continue the back down.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Yeah, I really like the Eagles in this spot at home.
I like them to cover as well.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Not the biggest fan of this.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Broncos team, and anytime too, you you make that travel
from from the West to the east for a one
o'clock kick, and they're coming off a short week as well.
I think that's a huge disadvantage to them Eagles at home.
I expect the place to be rocking in this one
as well. Three and a half. I think this team
where they win by at least seven. I could see
this being a double digit victory in the spot for sure,
(30:04):
and I could see a big even against Patrick Certe
had a big AJ Brown game, because that's been the
main topic of discussion this week.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
He started on any of the sports talk radios in Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
You would think that the Eagles are rowing four and
Aj doesn't have a catch the entire season, and the
sky is falling. But still they're sitting here at four
and oh. The offense is kind of finding their way.
And we saw this last year, Nick like the offense
started out slow throughout those first four games. They were
only two and two. This year, they're sitting there at
four and oh, and now they might start to actually
hitting their stride. They've been working on some things. It
seems like the offensive line, as you touchedown, hasn't been
(30:35):
as great. Saquan hasn't been as effective in the passing
game hasn't been that great, but so you're finding ways
to win and you're not offense isn't playing clearly the
way that they're capable of the best ball that they can.
I think the future is still very bright for this
Philadelphia team. I think they got to continue to drown
out the noise, and I think on Sunday afternoon could
be one of those kind of breakout games where everything
(30:55):
starts clicking. Jalen Hurts kind of sits there at the
podium at the end of the game and says, that's
what Joe wanted to see. How aj goes out there
and has one hundred yards and a touchdown, and then
we can finally kind of silence the doubters over the
next couple of weeks because you look at the schedule
from here on out. Next week on a short week
against the Giants, I think, yeah, obviously have to like
the Eagles there. Then they go to Minnesota, whether it's
(31:16):
Carson Wentz or JJ McCarthy, I have to like the
Eagles in that spot.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
And then the next matchup you have New York Giants
as well at home.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Like by the end of October, it's very feasible to
see this team being undefeated yet again. So as you said,
continue to doubt the Eagles, we won't. We'll ride with them,
We'll back them. And I like the Eagles to find
a way to get this one done and cover that
spread as well. Jalen minus one and fifty minus one
fifty for a touchdown last week, he didn't score. I
feel like it's a scenario where if you're comfortable laying
(31:44):
the juice, you gotta be willing to.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Take him again in that spot.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
All right, let's go to the afternoon and a game
that caught my eye four of five kick on CBS
Bucks at three and one obviously lost the Eagles last week.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
They'll travel to Seattle. This is the different scenario of
the East Coast team traveling to the West Coast three
to the three and one Seahawks. Seahawks two and a
half point favorite here over runners forty four and a half.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Mick, Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with the underdogs
here in Tampa Bay, going to Seattle and you know,
leaving with a win. I'm not too high on the
Seattle team. I wasn't coming into this season, even though
they're off to a three and one start this season.
They had a nice win against the Steelers, but other
than that, they beat the Saints and the Cardinals, So
you know, that doesn't really you know, jump out to me. Bucks,
on the other hand, have three wins and really tight
(32:27):
games and almost a comeback win against the Eagles last
week where they show that they can hang even after
being down early, and the team's pretty banged up. I
just trust Baker and this Bucks offense more than I
do Sam Darnold leading the Seahawks in this one. This
is I think, you know, also a nice showdown here
Ohio State receivers with Jason and the rookie Buka, both
players playing extremely well. We've talked about it before with
(32:49):
like Buka and how he's really shown and grown into
why he could show that he's the best receiver in
this past draft class. But I do want to see
how that Bucky Irving injury status is before I place
any wagers of this one. I think this is more
of of a fade of Seattle than it is a
ride for Tampa Bay. I just think Tampa Bay overall
is a better team went healthy. I know the Bucks
(33:11):
team is banged up right now, but still I'd lead
Baker leading a team to victory over Sam World right now.
I saw a storyline both these teams since leaving Carolina.
Baker is twenty six and nineteen against the spread since
leaving Carolina, and Sam Donald is fourteen eight and one
against the spread since leaving Carolina. So both quarterbacks since
(33:32):
leaving that Carolina team have had some success. So but overall,
I think I'm just gonna lean Baker and the Bucks
team as a whole better than Seattle in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
I'm kind of buying some stock in this Seattle team actually,
and I've never been the biggest Donald guy coming out.
I was in and I was kind of running victory laps.
But he's really, you know, reinvented his career over this
past year now with both Minnesota and Seattle. But I
think he's been playing damn good quarterbacks so far this year.
They got the weapons and JSN the running game with
Walker and Sharbone when they're both healthy, that's a really
(34:05):
nice duo. And then the defense flies around with a
defensive head coach one of the best home field advantages
in the league. I'm kind of buying some stock in
the Seahawks team, especially with you know, the the injuries
that Purby seems like, I feel like these are injuries
that are gonna linger. They're gonna bother him throughout the season.
You look at the NFC South, I think that's just
a pure one division or one team to the playoffs
with with the Bucks and maybe the Falcons can seek it.
(34:26):
I think when you look at the NFC East, I
think it's Eagles and Commanders kind of in the mix.
NFC nor it's gonna be interested in the track throughout
the season. But I look at this Seahawks team and
I think, not only can they win the win a
wildcard spot, get a wildcard spot, but win that NFC
West too. I think the Rams are gonna be good,
but I think that could come down to like an
eleven and six, twelve and five type of scenario. So
I'm really buying the hype into the Seahawks team. I
(34:48):
like them to win this one at home.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
Two.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
I'm a big Bucks guy. The Bucks were my super
Bowl team at the end of the year out of
the NFC. So to say I have them dropping two
in a row, I think that goes to say a lot.
Speaker 3 (34:59):
I really like the Seahawks team, and I'm starting to
buy more and more.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Into them, So I'm gonna take them, and I'm gonna
take them to cover this one as well.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
Give me the Seahawks to find a way to get
this one done.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
All right, last game I want to touch on before
you could kind of go off on any other props
that you want to hit on, Nick, before we had
out the Monday night football game, the Chiefs at two
and two at the Jags with a pretty surprising three
and one start. Jags were my AFC South champ to
begin the year, but I was not expecting the Colts
to be as good as they've been so far, and
I wasn't expecting Texans to be as bad. So the
(35:30):
AFC South has certainly been a talking point throughout the
league this year. But this is the Monday night game.
If a fifteen on ESPN, Chiefs so three and a
half point favorite here on the road over under forty
five and a half. Chiefs beat the Ravens last week
as a two and a half point underdog in that spot,
and Patrick Mahomes and the offense finally looked like they
started to get clicking.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
Yeah, I think you know both teams coming off of
wins here Kansas City beating Ravens last week at home
pretty handily and Jacksonville beating the forty nine ers in
a tight game. I think this is one where we
kind of see the Chiefs start to come together here.
I know the year started off a bit slow, a
few injuries, few missing pieces, but I think they're starting
to get rolling, get healthy, and once they get healthy
(36:10):
and get everyone back like Rashi Rice, I think this
team's gonna be scary and more explosiveness only as offensive
side of the ball is exactly what this Chief's team needs.
Their defense has played really well and I'd expect that
to continue. So I think getting the explosive pieces in
Xavier Worthy and Rashie Rice to come back, I think
that's gonna obviously do wonders for this offense.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Now.
Speaker 4 (36:33):
The Jags have gotten the run game going with ETN,
but Brian Thomas Junior has you know, hasn't really gotten
going just yet, and I think it's gonna be hard
to do that against the Kansas City defense. So in
this one, I'm just gonna roll with the Chiefs, roll
with Patty and the points here. I think they roll
cover the spread easily. I just think Mahomes in prime
time is gonna come out and put on a show
against this Jacks team. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Shout out to Travis Etn.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
I think he's been one of the more pleasants prizes
in the NFL this year. Has looked back to kind
of his Clemson self, his explosive self. Liam Cohen has
found ways to get him going and get him involved.
But where are the other studs at on that Jacksonville offense?
Like Travis Hunter, he's been a real no show early
in his career. Brian Thomas has obviously struggled. And those
two guys very talented players, and they're sitting here at
(37:19):
three and one. So the Jaguars are team to watch
too that they haven't even been close I think playing
their best football yet.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
They could easily be four and zero as well.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Shout out to Liam Cohen and what he's done so
far in his early tenure there in Jacksonville. But that's
a team that I'm watching keep an eye on going forward, man,
I'm looking forward to see if they can put some
more things together on the offensive side of the ball. So, Nick,
anything else you like want to touch on props wise,
straight up bets wise. As we go into this weekend
before we wrap up tonight.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Just for for Thursday night. I haven't really looked at
too much of Sunday Slate just yet, just because it's
Wednesday right now. Not many you know, lines have really
opened up too much. But I, like I said, I
really like Matt Stafford's passing line against the forty nine ers,
and I guess you can even you know, tie that
into you know, a Pooka prop a DeVante. Pooka has
(38:09):
been unbelievable, absolute volume, just eater just targets every single game.
And Davante has been really that red zone guy where
once you get over you know, the thirty yard line,
I think that's really where Stafford looks to go to him,
and he really trust him in that. So I think
the Rams kind of passing game, I think as a whole,
I think you can kind of get some money in
(38:30):
that one. But I did see one tweet that I
really like. I like Montgomery to score a touchdown, and
I like Montgomery's rushing whatever it is when it comes out.
I haven't seen a line yet against the Bengals. He's
going back home to Cincinnati, where he's from. I think
playing a team like the Bengals, this game could get
(38:50):
out of hand very quickly. This and we've seen the
Lions love, you know, those two dual headed running backs.
I think Jamior Gibbs is obviously going to eat his
fair share of yards and probably even get a touchdown.
But I think, you know, late game Montgomery, I think
he can get one in and even early in the game,
they use Montgomery a lot, so I think Montgomery is
a spot against Bengals team that I'm gonna I'm gonna go.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
All right.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
Well, you heard it from him first at Nick McClay
twenty two. Make sure to check that out on Twitter.
He puts all his plays out there. We know we
talk Football is King here, but it's been on a
role to start the baseball playoffs and we got many
more baseball games to go as well, so.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
Make sure to keep it locked over there on Twitter.
Thank you everyone for.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
Tuning in for another episode here of Football is King
on Fox Sports The Game, where we will be back
next week talking all things college and NFL yet again,
and hopefully some Philadelphia Phillies success in Red October as well.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
But thanks everyone for tuning in and we will talk
next week.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Spreads total and all the prop bets in betweens. It's
the gambler.
