Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you can wager on it. We're talking about it.
It's the gambler. The game is one in the trenches.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
They just don't have to beef upfront, all right.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
So you better have beef up front. They have the
scoll position players, they have the defensive backs, they have
the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
They don't have to beef up front.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
They says, your weekly stop for all things college football.
Now here are your hosts, Ryan Coyle and Sean Brace.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
He's typing away because he's fired up to discuss. Four
teams left, national championship at stake, and these some of
these teams out of the four, I've been waiting quite
a while for the opportunity to play for a national championship,
let alone actually winning a national championship. Let's go beef
(00:45):
up front. Four teams remain semi final action kicking off
on Thursday, penn State, Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Oh It doesn't.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Get any bigger than that as far as where we're
at right here in Philadelphia of course Pennsylvania as well.
And then on Friday, we'll see if we can find
any reason to back Texas.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
But it seems like everybody is on the Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
It is Sean Brace. It is Ryan Coyle. This is
beef upfront beef.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
How we doing excited?
Speaker 5 (01:14):
I called it earlier the battle for Northeast Philadelphia. I
feel like for college football to be discussed as much
as it's being discussed in the Philadelphia area right now.
It's a win because I mean, Temple Villanova, they are
you really gonna be a fan of them, kind of
growing up like a big college football fanly obviously respect
to the local programs, but you don't. You're We're not
(01:37):
We're an Eagles country. We're not in Alabama, We're not
in Tennessee, We're not in Georgia. You either like Penn
State or Notre Day most of the time growing up
around here. So to get those two schools to clash off,
and two teams that haven't played, I believe since two
thousand and seven, it's pretty insane for that for for
birth to the national title on the line, and then
two of the biggest brands in the sport as well,
(01:58):
in Ohio State and Texas. Just awesome to see. And
all underdog seeds too. None of the top four have
made it, none of the teams with buys, So you
got a little bit of everything in this first twelve
team playoff.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Are there going to be some tweaks? Are there going
to be some discussions?
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Sure?
Speaker 5 (02:12):
But I think we still got two really awesome games
coming up this weekend and then hopefully a great national
title game as well.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
And we have line movement today as well, actual money
coming in on both of these games to the point
that it shifted the line, albeit only half a point
in the Ohio State Texas game, but still very intriguing
stuff with the game right around the corner. Of course,
Thursday night we get Ohio State and Pence or at
Penn State Notre Dame. Friday we get Texas and Ohio State.
(02:41):
So listen, let's go ahead and dive right into Penn
State and Notre Dame first and first and foremost draftings sportsbook,
where we're getting odds from Notre Dame a point and
a half favorite forty four and a half is our total.
The number as far as the total is concerned, I
believe opened up a forty six and a half. I
want to say so money immediately coming in on the under.
(03:04):
That was the first play that I really liked as well.
Of course, now down to forty four and a half.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
How low will you go?
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Let's start there, Ryan beef Coyle, do you think this
will be a low scoring game? Again, we know what
these two defenses possess Penn State, the numbers are are absurd,
but some are questioning whether or not we should factor
in as far as the opponent is concerned the previous
two games. Of course, we know Boise State and SMU,
(03:31):
but still they've been pretty damn good all season long,
especially upfront. Abdul Carter question Mark, I'd be shocked if he.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Doesn't go, but you never know. We'll see how that
one plays out. And as far as the total is concerned,
what does Notre Dame do? They run of the football?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
And Riley Leonard not really able to throw the football
down the field or hasn't shown us. I know he's
capable of we saw him do to that Duke, but
he hasn't shown us and especially in these past couple
games for Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
So a lot of.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
People are saying the under. I like the under. I
think this is a low scoring game. Where do you
stand on that conversation?
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Yeah, when you look at Penn State and I feel
like I was watching an old Eagles game. But when
I was watching it last week with my dad, we
were just yelling for Penn State to just run the ball.
They were getting five six yards a clip, and it
seemed like on offense they were trying to get a
little bit too cute. They were airing the ball out.
Drew had a few really nice throws at the begind
of the game, two really nice touchdown passes. But that's
(04:28):
a team that needs to run the ball first. So
do they kind of get back to that identity or
are they going to get cute? We saw them as
well in the matchup against Ohio State. They had the
ball in the red zone, I believe within the ten
yard line. I think they threw the football three times.
So this is a spot where historically James Franklin in
these big spots, as we know, tends to have his issues,
have his struggles. Do they get a little too cute
(04:49):
and away from their identity. That's something that's kind of
been sitting in the back of my head going into
this game, and as well last week as I talked
about with the running game for Penn State and how
successful was at times against Boise.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Boise had the most sacks out of any team in
the country last year.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
And I know that was against you know, inferior opponents,
but they were still getting to Drew all or they
were hitting Drew Aller and Penn State continue to drop
back and throw the football. So a little bit of
a puzzling kind of game plan there and decision making.
But it has to make you wonder, is that gonna
be kind of the the moo that they roll with
in this game? Like Indiana didn't really test the Notre
Dame secondary last week, Georgia obviously, with their deficiencies in
(05:27):
the passing game, didn't really test their secondary, but there
were a few wide open receivers and big plays that
the Georgia receivers drop. So does Penn State kind of
look at that. I'm gonna be sticking away from the
total in this one. I do really like both defenses
and both run games, but I'm more so just on
the side of Notre Dame and I think that they're
just playing at a little bit different of a level
right now, and I'm just going to be siding with
(05:49):
them because I do think there could be a late
pick six. There could be We saw Notre Dame special
teams a kick return for the touchdown as well. This
is just such a low number that for defense like
Penn State that can put up points and Notre Dame
with when they're clicking as well, we've seen them put
up in the forties and fifties.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
I think that this number is just a little too
little too low.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
If you're looking at the under there, maybe even lean
towards the over all.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Right, you're one of the very few that I've heard
say that.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
So we'll see how that one plays out, of course,
and nobody wants to take the under.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
But at the end of the day, where's the offense
coming from?
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Like, that's the question I would have Drew Aller was
able to take some shots in the first half. Again,
definitely have to to gauge the opponent and Boise State
and smu is, that's not Notre Dame's defense, that's not
Marcus Freeman, that's not Al.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Gold and Al Golden hell of a defensive coordinator.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Right now, with Notre Dame twelve game win streak, you
got to give it up to him and that defense
against Georgia, they got after him and the two turnovers
were of course, the kickoff return was a huge deal.
But the difference in the game was the two turnovers forced.
And this is what this defense has been doing basically
all season long, specifically in.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
At USC game.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
So I look at Notre Dame's defense really having their
way against.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Penn State's run game. It's going to come down to
Drew Howler and whether or not he could sling it.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
If they're comfortable with that, and if he can, if
he can throw the football and he's able to take
shots down the field and they're able to, you know,
as far as make plays, then sure, I could see
Penn State putting up some points and this could go over.
But offensively, I just think it's gonna be a struggle
for both sides.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
I really do so. If you had to pin me
down right now, forty four and a half is a
low number. I'm gonna hold my nose.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
And I'm gonna take the under on this one because
I just don't believe that Riley Leonard's gonna all of
a sudden snapping the fingers and start throwing the football
all over the place.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
And Drew Holler not the biggest Drewler fan either.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Yeah, No, I can definitely see where most people are
coming from. It's just it's college football. Weird things happen
like this was an NFL game. Sure I could take
that as well. I think the Eagles total right now
sitting at four five and a half. But there's just
weird things that happen all the time in college football.
If you have young kids, young quarterback and alur could
he throw a pick six?
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Someone jump in.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
There's just a little bit too much unknown And I'm
just a little bit too much on the side of
Notre Dame for me not to touch the total.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
All right, talk to me about Riley Leonard as far
as he only threw for ninety yards and the Sugar
Bowl against Georgia. Again, Georgia's defense. We know how good
they are, what they're capable of. A b the game,
the way it played out. I want to be fair
to Riley Leonard as well. You know, it's not like
he was asked to throw the football. But at the
(08:37):
same time, where is it, what's the medium? Where's the
happy medium? In that conversation, do you have confidence in
Riley Leonard if the game is called upon and he
has to lead him on the drive as far as
throwing the football late in the game or can they
be a different type of offense.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
I don't think that they will. But if the game
calls for Riley Leonard to turn into a passing quarterback,
is he capable that?
Speaker 5 (09:01):
I wouldn't say I was overly confident, because that is
in these big games, in these games that I expect
to be close. One thing I always point to is
like third and seven, do you trust that quarterback to
go out there and convert?
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Do I trust Riley Leonard to do with his arm?
Speaker 5 (09:16):
No? What can he do with his legs as well? Yes,
he's not a one dimensional quarterback. Like when you look
at Georgia last week in Gunner Stockton, Notre Dames pass
rush was able to get to him.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
That just eliminated their plays.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
If Penn State's pass rush gets to Riley Leonard, he's
still athletic enough, He's still mobile enough to create with
his legs. So at the end of the day, do
we want Notre Dame if you're betting on Notre Dame
to have Riley Leonard drop back thirty thirty five times
and throw the football. No? But Notre Dames knows what
they are at this point. They know how to play
into their quarterback's hands. That's why they're having so much success.
(09:50):
And they're just leaning into that as well. Riley Leonard,
when you look at him last week, fourteen carries for
eighty yards, not many explosive plays. He had a thirty
two yard rush, but he got the yards in the
hard yards too when it mattered. So I saw the
confidence that they're able to move the chains because they've
been able to do.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
It all year. Is this a different beast? Is this
maybe the best defense they played this Penn State team,
even better than the Georgia defense from last week? Potentially?
But I do think that.
Speaker 5 (10:14):
Riley Leonard is able to move the football well enough,
and he is able to throw the ball if he
needs to.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
It sounds like he's just a completely one dimensional player.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Who's got a better running game in your mind, And
it seems like Jeremiah Love is going to play. He's
somebody said, I highly doubt that, but regardless, he's.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Going to give it a go. Who's got the better
run game in your mind?
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Because Penn State was pretty damn explosive and that last
time we saw him again against Boise State.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Was that a mirage in your opinion? And where do
you stand on that one.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
Now, that that Penn State rushing attack, I think, even
coming into the year, I said was the second best
rushing attack in the entire country.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
I had Ohio State above them.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
Ohio State didn't really run the ball like I expected
two throughout the year. But this running back duo of
Singleton and Allen is as good as it gets in
all of college football. Really experienced guys as well, and
Drew Rowler's no slouch in the running game himself.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
I mean, you look at Singleton and Allen, They've.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
Both been really good so far in the playoffs, and
it goes back to the point of discussion as well.
Doesn't have to do with the opponents that they've played,
or you can go back and look at their track
record and their history. Allen is more of the downhill runner,
the guy who's probably going to be getting the ball
in the red zone. But Singleton's that guy that can
break off that fifty five sixty yard touchdown for the
game breaker when you look at it.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Notre Dame.
Speaker 5 (11:34):
You can point to Ryley Leonard and his ability, but
the questions with Jeremiah Love and his health. Right now,
I lean towards Penn State there in the run game,
and I think that they can control kind of the
line of scrimmage at times in the run game. Pass
blocking is a little bit different of a question, but
these Penn State running backs are able enough, are good
enough and able enough to make plays on their own
as well at blocks breakdown.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
What's your take as far as the true handicap on
this game when you start to look at some of the.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
You know, from the outside perspective, some of.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
The elements, and specifically would go into the fact that
Notre Dame just went up against Georgia.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
That ain't easy. Penn State went up against Boise State.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
All right, two different worlds and rest factor we're talking
about only about what a day, two days, day and
a half, two days still though, something of significance to
some where do you standing on those conversations as far
as the previous opponent, hell of a lot easier for
the body to recover when you go up against the
(12:37):
Boise State, I'll love and respect versus going up against
big bad Georgia.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
When you get you can kind of look at that
at the other light of it though, as well, like
look how much action at the line of skirmage Penn
State had to deal with with with with guarding Ashton
Gentsy and we're trying to bring down Ashton genty He
had twenty five plus carries in that one, and they
were still even handing them the ball at the end
of the game.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
That's a lot harder, I think than pass.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
Blocking and having to deal with that when you're getting
consistently chopped, blocked and whatnot. Just having to deal with
those blows each and every down at the line of skirmage,
having to come down and make those hits, make those
hard tackles. So Penn State I don't really think had
it easy. Georgia, sure, at the same time, but this
was a human Georgia. This wasn't your granddaddy's Georgia that
we've seen over these past few years, So not that
(13:24):
big of a difference. I think the rest part you
can kind of put in there as well. But at
the end of the year, at the end of this rate,
these teams are all beat up. Penn State and Notre
Dame as well, both played in the first round, so
not exactly a huge extended and rest. And we have
seen as well the teams that have been on the
rest that have actually struggled and lost all those games.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Are you still holding steady with the right team being
favored at this point in time? Got us ig is
two and a half yesterday, now down to a point
and a half today. We'll see where this ends up
come kick off on Thursday night at seven thirty pm.
But is the right team favored at the end of
the day. Who he's got the more dynamic roster?
Speaker 5 (14:02):
I think when you look top to bottom, the more
dynamic and more talented roster. And the best player in
the game is from Penn State. But I'm going to
give the coaching advantage to Marcus Freeman. And I think
I'm not going to say Ran circles around Kirby smart
last week, but he undressed him a couple of times.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
He did a few things.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
I called Kirby and Georgia off guard, and that rarely happens.
Now when you get James Franklin and Penn State in
a big game, James Franklin has an underdog. Time and
time again, he's let you down. Are we really gonna
talk ourselves into it now? Are we really going to
believe that this is finally the game that they break through?
Speaker 4 (14:37):
It's a tough game. It's really is a coin flip
to me.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
But I hopped on Notre Dame money lines at minus
one eighteen when I saw it move to that, I
really think this game could be decided by a point.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
Why I'd be surprised if Penn State wins.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
No, But also I'm gonna be able to sleep a
lot better tonight. No. And then I took Notre Dame
instead of betting on James Franklin in a game where
he's an underdog and has really historically strugg And it
might be as cliche as time, but the facts are
the facts in these situations. I think he's won in
sixteen in this last seventeen games straight up.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
As another do Abdul Carter, it's a huge deal.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
I had eleven sacks this season, a ton of tackles
for losses, and he's dealing with the uncertainty of the
injury as far as the left arm shoulder.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I'd be shocked if he does not give it a go.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
But again, we're talking about that situation, that type of
injury we just saw basically with Kyle Hamilton with the Ravens,
where it's like one tackle he could be missing the
rest of the game, so that will be a huge loss.
I do believe in Notre Dame's running attack. I like
Riley Leonard, especially like what you said as far as
him making the playmaking capability as far as being rushed
(15:49):
getting out of the pocket. Man, it is a coin flip,
and I hate to say it. I wish I felt
really confident about one way. I'll tell you straight up,
because I had Notre Dame in the final from the beginning.
I had them taking on Oregon, so it is what
it is. But had Notre Dame getting to this point,
Penn State getting to this point, and I kind of
(16:10):
wanted to change my mind two three days ago. I
want to be honest with you, But now I'm coming
back to Notre Dame and I just have to hold
steady here. So I'm gonna back the Irish on this one.
But like you said, man, it's not a it's not
a cop out. I won't be shocked that Penn State
is winning at the Orgi Bowl and getting to the
national Championship.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
It's gonna be a great game, hopefully will be.
Speaker 5 (16:29):
Yeah, I think this one is certainly more fifty to
fifty where it seems like everyone else is on the
Ohio State And that's why I'm glad it's this way.
I'm glad we're at least getting this matchup that we're
expecting to be awesome and hopefully it delivers. Because say
what you want about Penn State, but they still find
a way in these close games to play it really
kind of down to the wire. They might lose these
(16:50):
games at the end, but they're always in it and
they always find a way to kind of hang around.
So I think we should be in for a really
good one and hopefully a really good kickoff to an
awesome week.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
Of football coming up.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Over under two minutes fifty seconds, Mark Henry Jr.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
With the text in a group chat ballgame, Uh.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
I'll go gotta go under. Yeah, I'll go under. I
might just say something out of spite if.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
I just you know, we'll see, Uh, we'll see how
he's handling this one. It's all gravy on He's claims
it's all gravy after this one. But yeah, this is
this is this. I would love to put a camp.
We need a Mark Henry.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Junior camp for this game. That's what we need.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
I love it all right, anything else before we move
on to Ohio stateon Texas.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
From a Notre Dame and Penn State.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
I just think one one kind of major thing in
this game as well.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
It's not really you know.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
Reinventing the wheel, but Tyler Warren and are the Penn
State able to make some explosive plays in the passing
game with him? Notre Dame has got a few kind
of chess pieces in their secondary. And you touched on
Al Golden. I saw Al Golden's kind of getting room
potentially go to the Bengals as the defensive coordinator. But
he's had a really great kind of season there and
resurgence in his career. He was kind of down the dumbs,
(18:08):
but him and Freeman and their creativeness on the defensive end,
are they able to eliminate Tyler Warren from this game?
I think obviously that's going to play a huge role.
And Notre Dame's pressure and the blitzes we saw them
bring a bunch of times last week against Georgia Penn State.
I think that they've kind of struggled Notre Dame as
seven sacks through their two playoff games. So is Notre
Dame able to get to aller and maybe few force
(18:30):
a fewture numbers is something that I'm keying in.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
On as well.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
I'm reading a line here it says in the playoff,
Tyler Warren has seventeen touches receiving, coma, rushing and throwing for.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
One and two yards and two touchdowns. Did he throw.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
In the playoff? I don't remember.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
He might have had like a trick play, but he
did have that one where he snapped it against USC.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
Then he ran down the field and caught the touchdown.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
But I don't remember him having I just remember Scattabu
having the deep bomb.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Very weird wording, let's just put it that way.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
I would assume that it's just him receiving, and again
he is a freak with the two touchdowns. And you
know those were good coverages against him in that Boise
State game. If I'm not mistaken as well like he is,
they're really good balls.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
I wish I had a slam dunk handicap on this one.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
My best take is the under.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
I know it stinks, but this could very well go
to overtime and it's a loss. This could very well
be twenty four to twenty three, which is forty seven
that's gonna go over. It's it's a tough one to handicap,
it really is. But I think we're in for a
good one on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
At the Orange Bowl.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
All right, now, let's get on over into Texas and
the Ohio State, going down in the Cotton Bowl where
there's no cactuses, but that is apparently in the graphic
that they're putting out there.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
This one moved a little bit now up to six.
It was five and a half.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
How about what an open beef at the GBC the
Gambler Bowl Challenge, I had it at two and a half.
I believe this opened at three to three and a half.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
I think, well, no, no.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
The wak House I think it was four and a half.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
That's correct.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
So it went from four and a half we said
way too low. We said six. And that's where we're
at right now, at six. And that's where I always
put myself into with these conversations. It's like, you know,
because we were talking about this on the show, where
if Jalen Hurts wasn't able to go, what would happen
to that number for Kenny Pickett or Tanner McKee, whoever.
The quarterback would be for the Philadelphia Eagles. And I
(20:37):
just said, you have to come to it from the
perspective of when will you say that's enough for me
not to take the Eagles. And and if you're telling
me it's a two point spread, there's no way I'm
taking the Green Bay Packerge you're telling me it's a
three point spread, I'm probably still there's no way I'm
taking a Green Bay Packers.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
So I honestly didn't.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Think that we would see that much blind movement if
Kenny Pickett was the starting quarterback for the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Afterwards, all said and done, put in that to the side.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
That's where I'm at with this conversation, same framework, where like,
if it's five and a half, there's no way I'm
taking Texas. Six, I still don't think I'm taking Texas.
So I have to ask, where is the number? What's
the number for you that would make you go, all right,
it's hook them, it's hook them. It's too many points,
(21:21):
this is going to be a good game. Is there
a number that would push you that way? Are you
all slam dunk into Ohio State in this game?
Speaker 5 (21:29):
Maybe, like if it got up to seven and a
half and you could keep it kind of under a touchdown.
But I think this is a game that Ohio State
is going to win by double digits. It's just the
it's going to come down to the first quarter. I
really think that. And it's weird to say that because
Texas has been really good in the first quarter as well.
But Ohio State, and in these two playoff games, has
(21:49):
been dominant in this first quarter twenty one nothing before
you could even blink against Tennessee, and I forget what
it was against Oregon, but it was something in the
same ballpark ken Texas withstand that first punch, that first
deep shot to Jeremiah Smith. Can they just eliminate that
and kind of derail a little bit of this confidence
that Ohio State's rolling in with. Because Ohio State, right now,
and I don't think it's hyperbole, is looking like the
(22:11):
most dominant college football team I can remember. And this
is just over these last two games. And I know
I don't have as vast of a memory and history
as some other people, but they are looking as good as.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
Like that twenty nineteen LSU team.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
And I've heard that comparison thrown out there, but this
team's falls to the wall confidence right now. They're just like,
nobody can f with us out on this field, and
that's just something that you can't teach.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
That's something that's just within all these guys right now.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
Will Howard is playing his behind off as well, and
Texas is just like scary.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
It's like they'll look great.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
They had that kick return for the touchdown, they had
the deep touchdown against Arizona State, and they let then
they just pick their foot off the gas. They just
let Arizona State come back into it. Clemson as well
made a run in that game. So does Texas have
kind of the juice in the mojo to make this
game battle in the first quarter?
Speaker 4 (23:01):
If they do, they have the talent, for sure, guy
for guy.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Pound for pound to hang around with Ohio State. But
can they withstand that first quarter punch. That's what this
game's really gonna come down to.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
Yeah, I'm trying to like, let's just say for the
sake ofdest conversation at Ohio State does not have the
burner start. Like you pointed out against Oregon Tennessee as well,
It's not as easy as throwing the.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Football down the field.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
So I'm trying to give credit to Texas's defense and saying,
all right, you know, like if they're able to play
their a game and man, coming into this playoff, this
twelve team playoff, we said that this is the best
defense out there. Right, you look at all those names
they're gonna be called. In the NFL draft, we talked
about the top fifty players. There was like ten players
(23:50):
from Texas period, and then I think like seven of
them were from the defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
So is there enough.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
For them to slow down own this Ohio State offense?
And I'm having a hard time saying yes, but I
do want to be fair and saying going up against
the Arizona State, the one thing I did notice, I
felt like their secondary was all over those wide receivers.
Now those wide receivers aren't Ohio States wide receivers.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
That's the issue. But am I wrong in saying the
defensive line for Texas is the best defensive line standing?
So or will we give that advantage to Penn State
slash Notre Dame over Texas? Where do you stand on that?
Speaker 4 (24:28):
As well? The way I say, I mean.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
I saw tweet earlier. I just pulled it up, but
from Matt Miller. He does NFL drafts stuff for ESPN.
He said, Ohio State versus Texas has twenty one players
ranked in his top three rounds. So you look at that,
what's that ninety six players are get selected in the
top three rounds. Matt Miller has twenty one of those
in this game, eleven on Ohio State, teno Texas. So
(24:54):
when you look talent for talent, these are by far
the two most talented teams left. It's just I don't
have comp in quinn ewers and that offense to sustain
their success. They look great at times, they look great
off script, but kind of once the game gets into
that second to third quarter, they have struggles putting these
teams away. And you can't be playing with your food
if you're Texas in this matchup, like, you can't be
(25:16):
like all right. Even if they do get up early
and take their foot off the gas, Ohio State can
come back and you know, blank of an eye in
three touchdowns. So guy for guy, pound for pound, this
Ohio State team and Texas team matchup really well. Like
I think if this was a Week one game, it
probably would be like Ohio State minus two and a
half or something. But you have to take into account
(25:36):
the right here, right now, and there's no one on
this earth in college football playing better than the University
of Ohio State Buckeyes right now.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Yeah, man, you're talking about a team that is in
a whole different frame of mind. The way that they
are playing. It's, you know, a big middle finger to everybody.
I don't know what happened in that Michigan game, the
Michigan game, other than the fact that they were in
their own heads the way that they lost that game,
and it might go down as probably the best thing possible.
And I know that's going to be a tough pill
(26:06):
for a lot of Ohio State fans to swallow, even
if they do win the national championship, but it really
might be the best thing that happened to that program
in quite some time.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
You know, that was a good game against Penn State.
Penn State had him on the ropes. We can go.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Back and nitpick that, the play calling, Tyler Warren not
getting involved. Of course, the secondary needed to step up
a little bit more easier said than done. But you're
looking at some goat with some look ahead lines. DraftKings
says nine and a half for Ohio State going up
against Penn State nine and a half.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
They're saying Penn State I.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Saw seven and a half foot yesterday.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
That's crazy to me that you would tell me that
Texas is going to give Ohio State a better shot
than Penn State may.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Especially with the play I haven't already played each other
and Penn State two is in that game. And I
think we talked about this before, but Penn State really
I think kind of gave it to a high state
more than Ohio State really went and kind of dominated them.
But that's not this Ohio State that we've seen. That
was my big take on Ohio State going into the playoff.
I was like, how good really are they? Are they
just like a talented, like hypothetical kind of roster because
(27:13):
we hadn't seen anything close to this version all year
and they still had a really good regular season, but
this has just been kind of they flipped the switch
and it was like, all right, we just wanted to
get to the playoff.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
Now it's time to go what we were built to do.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
Anything for Will Howard being own for when he was
at Kansas State going up against Texas, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:31):
I think it's a little bit of a different beast,
but I think it was last year Kansas State took
Texas to the wire. Kansas State. It might have even
been an overtime game. I remember betting on that game
on Kansas State.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Look, I think this one is easier for me to
sit here and say that Ohio State was it.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
This one is easier for me to sit here and
say I like the Buck guys, and putting coaching to
the side. I'm not the biggest Sark fan. Is he
a better coach than Ryan Day?
Speaker 2 (28:09):
Probably? Is he a better coach than Ryan Day in
your mind?
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Sark?
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Yeah, I if you made me pick between the two
of them right.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
Now, yes, I would probably pick Sark. But I'm not
a fan.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
I'm not really a fan of either. But I do
like what Sark kind of has reinvented himself.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
I do give him credit for that.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
I'm having a hard time just picking against Ohio State,
and I think at the end, I'm pretty sure that everybody's.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Going to be an agreement, and this is going to
be extremely.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
Lopsided, which is fine because the one game before and
on Thursday is going to be pretty much split. So
we'll see that's going to even itself out. But I
do believe everybody will be on Ohio State minus six
and this might even continue to climb, who knows as
we get closer to kickoff on Friday. But Ohio State,
for my money, like you said, specifically, never out of
(28:58):
the ballgame with that off And Texas, even if they're
able to get that run game, do you have confidence
in them making the plays on offense to keep up
with that Ohio State offense as.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Long as they don't turn the football over.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
This should be in Ohio State victory and hopefully by
more than a touchdown. But we'll see how this one
plays out. Anything for you to put a boat on
that one down there in Texas.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
I'm looking at the first quarter right now Ohio State
minus two and a half total though ten and a half.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
As I said at the beginning, like both of these
teams have started out really fast in their playoff games
so far, so that's something that I'm looking at. Potentially
you could Ohio State could go out there and have
two touchdowns themselves in the first half. In Texas has
been really good off the script as well, so over
ten and a half there in the first quarter.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
I think is worth the look for sure as well.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
The one thing that I was looking at earlier was
red zone efficiency with some of these teams, because it felt.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Like Texas is one of the worst teams in the country.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
Yeah, that was seventy third nationally in points per red
zone trip and the best red zone defense in the
country is Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
So that's something to read into on that one. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
That was courtesy of CBS Sports there allowing three point
zero nine points allowed per red zone possession. So that's
not something that is in favor of Texas. So I
think this might be horns down for QUIN viewers and company.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Anything from the standpoint of Arch.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Would he get an opportunity if he does if his
number is called, could he be a difference maker?
Speaker 2 (30:37):
As far as offensively.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
I was listening to something today and they were basically
going into like, if Arch didn't get in last week
against Arizona State when their offense hit a lull, do
you really think that they're going to turn on down?
It's like kind of like put the Arch narrative to
bed like that, that's for next year. He's had some moments,
he's had some place but I think Sark is just
going to go down with Quinnyers. He's either going to
(31:01):
hoist the trophy at the end or he's gonna go
down with them. And also like propsequent you weres two
at the end of that game last week on that
fourth and thirteen that touchdown throw to extend the game,
that was awesome. That like that play I don't think's
been talked about enough of highest part. Texas isn't even
in this game if it's not for that play. So
when you were still he might have that clutch.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Gene a little bit at him.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
I'm just hoping this one, this one's as good as
I think the Notre Dame Penn State game.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Is going to be.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
We'll see, we'll see. It all gets started on Thursday.
It's exciting time a year and it's something new for
all of us. With the twelve team playoff, it's raised
up a lot of attention. It's kind of put us
with some prizes. None of these teams that are standing
won their conference championship. Notre Dame's not in a conference understood,
but still pretty surprising there. The highest seed that's standing
(31:50):
is Texas at this point in time.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
But the way that that bracket broke out.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
I don't think either one of us are surprised that,
like I said, Penn State or Notre Dame are playing
for the opportunity, which, oh, by the way, another thing
that was surprising. First black coach to be in a
national championship game is going to happen this year. That's
pretty damn cool. And to hear the video or the
audio from James Franklin where he said that that was
something he wanted to do a few years ago at
(32:17):
Penn State, got tip my cap to that.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Man. That's pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
I'm a big fan of history and unless it involves
Saquon Barkley breaking the record in a meaningless game, but
other than that, I thought it was pretty cool to
hear that.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
So we'll see what happens there.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
Is there anything that will make you take Penn State
or Notre Dame versus Ohio State if that's the final.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Nine and a.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
Half the points, yeah, yeah, I could definitely see it.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
But the.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
Winning I don't think you can pick against Ohio State
right now. I think they're like minus one fifteen right
now to win it all, which is.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
Pretty crazy, just like two straight money lines.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Well, here we are man, it's been a hell of
a ride this whole season.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
That's why we lift all those weights. It that's why
we read all those magazines in August.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
It feels like yesterday we had Florida State and Georgia Tech.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Over there in Ireland. But here we are and we'll
see how this one works.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
Do you want to point out we will be hosting
a live watch party for the National Championship at the
Penn Club in Concha Hoc and breaking news.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Yes, we're going to announce it on Friday after.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
We get one of the teams that in the final,
either Penn State or Notre Dame. So we'll make the
graphic tailor made from those colors perspective, but of course,
no doubt about it, they're both great fan bases here
in the area, so love to have everybody join us.
We will be live at the Pink Club for the
(33:46):
game and pregame Shenanigan's all that good stuff and more.
We'll break that one coming on Friday, but beef good
luck on that play on Thursday. We'll break that one
down a little bit more in detail on Friday as well,
getting everybody ready for the Texas and Ohio State game.
But right here, right now, I'm on the under you're
gonna stay away from the total. You like Notre Dame,
I like Notre Dame. Go iris. We'll see how this
(34:08):
one works out.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Anything else before we get out of here today, Sarah,
that's it.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
Let's enjoy some good ball this weekend.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
I got one more for you, ready, so hear it.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
So I'm kind of sick of kurb Herdstreet and Paul
Feie Mom. All right, And I was thinking about this
earlier today, where there are great young, fresh voices, new
people covering the sport of college football.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
And I think we are in a new spot, right.
I know this.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
We all noticed that we are in something new that
has just raised the game up so much, right, And
maybe there were people that were doubting the twelve teams
or whatever it may be, But next year it's gonna
be appointment television. Hopefully they make the correct switches as
far as the automatic buys not happening, and as far
as the receding needs to happen. So hopefully those two
(34:59):
things change, and then that's going to even raise up
the awareness even more if you could remove those two
First of all, I don't know, if you like both
of those guys whatever. Herbstreet is fine, I get it,
but he's so wishy washy and then he pointing his
finger and you know, it's just it's a little overkill
at this point in time with Herbie, right, and it
happens every year he's calling the NFL, he's doing this,
(35:21):
but now more than ever, I'm like, all right, enough
for Herbstreet, But who are some of the fresh new
voices out there as far as college football that you
would like to see get a little bit more shine
for this upcoming season and of course in seasons.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
In the future.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Here, I really like, the main college football that I
listen to right now is the guys over at on
three Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman, and they're pretty well established,
but they got a lot of talent over there, and
I have all the twet notifications on for the transfer portal.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
No One I think covers college.
Speaker 5 (35:53):
Football more in depth and better than that channel over
at on three.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
So Jamie Piquel, he's another young guy.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
I think he's probably three or four years older than me, say,
but they go as much in depth as possible, Like
you'll have the guys on first take or guys on
Get Up or whatever, trying to talk about this playoff
game coming up Thursday, coming up on Friday, And that
was probably the first time that they've watched these teams
all year.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
I know that these those guys ever had.
Speaker 5 (36:18):
All three live and breathe this stuff kind of like
we do so on three. Definitely shout out to them
and what they've been building in seems like they're they're
really tapping in kind of at the right time because
there's definitely a market for all this new kind of
transfer stuff and il stuff and just overall college football
in general.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
Are you a chot Josh Peyton fan.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
Not really. He's a little too too much of a
no at all type guy.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Yeah, he is. I think he's he plays the role
well though. I don't mind him.
Speaker 5 (36:50):
I'm fine bombs like the he knows his role, he
leans into his role.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Yeah, but he's seen flip flops. That's all he does
is flip flop. That's my big issue with him. It's
like one day he says something. The next week, not
even the next week, it's the next day he's saying
something different.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
It's like, wait a minute, you know.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
Look if a YouTuber or a guy on TikTok wants
to flip flop, so be it. You're literally on television
every day, whether it's the SEC Network or ESPN. You
got something evil to say about Dion Sanders, Well next week,
well they want a football game, So now I got
to go ahead and give him a dude like, stick
to your guns a little bit, man. And and no
(37:30):
one ever calls him out. And that's another thing that
irks the hell out of me. Everyone just gives him
all this love and respect because he's Paul finebaumb It's like,
I don't know, man, I just had enough for Paul.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
Which I have no issues with that. Just stick to
your That's just that's just who he is, all right,
Well that's who we are.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
We're talking semifinals Notre Dame, Penn State Thursday Friday, Ohio
State and Texas and get a watch party on January twentieth.
We're kicking that thing off early too. I saw seven
thirty start time. I hope that's correct.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
And Georgia.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
I believe in Atlanta in the Dome, so that's where
the National Championship is going on. We'll have some fun
on the twentieth but it all starts on Thursday, and
once again, if you miss anything, be sure to get
all of our programming and podcasts at FOXPHO.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Gambler dot com spreads totals and all the prop that's
in the tweens.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
It's the Gambler
