Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gordon Bird here Beyond the News. Hillsborough County is helping
to create a post disaster redevelopment plan and they're trying
to get input from residents so that they can help
the county build back smarter and come back faster from
a disaster. They are part of a grant of more
than a million dollars that was awarded three years ago
(00:21):
to develop such a plan. We've got C. K More
with us. He is the Planning Section chief for Hillsborough
Emergency Management and mister Moore, welcome to Beyond the News.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Thank you for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Let's talk about why you're holding this event. You're going
to be holding an event to get public input on
post disaster redevelopment and we'll talk about where and when
that's taking place. In a moment. You're asking for input
on how disasters, which as most often for us means hurricanes,
affect us and how we can lessen the impact and
(00:55):
bounce back. So kind of expand on that and tell
us what kind of input you're looking for from the public.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yes, sir, so you know Hillsborough County is still working
proactively to prepare not only just for this next storm season,
but for everything that comes after that. So part of
that is our post disaster redevelopment plan that helps us
rebuild stronger, faster, and much smarter. So what we're asking
for is for the public to provide us with input
(01:23):
of their experience. So we want residents partition participation in
this process because it matters. We want to hear from
the residents who live through the storms, like Helena Milton
in twenty twenty four. We also want to get real communities,
community stories and feedback to shape this plan because what
we try to get folks to understand is not just
(01:43):
the counties plan, it's our plan as residents and folks
that live here in Hillsborough. So especially we want to
know about the challenges of that they have with either
recovery after the storm, housing issues, any rebuilding permitting issues.
We want to know all these things in order to
to put together this comprehensive plant in the long term
(02:04):
to make sure that we, like we said, like I
said earlier, build back smarter, faster and stronger.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
And to find out people's experiences so that they can
apply that and improve the process and the future. Now
you're going to be holding an in person meeting coming
up on Tuesday the fifteenth, and tell us about when
and where that's taking place. First of all, So.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
That's going to be Tuesday at the Feeding Tampa Bay
location over there on Causeway Boulevard. That's thirty six twenty
four Causeway Boulevard here in Tampa, Florida. It's also going
to be it's going to take place from six thirty
to eight pm right there through once you come through
the main interest of the building and part of that,
we're going to have displays and things of that nature
up along with folks there to gather information. So every
(02:46):
brother is to submit their information and make sure that
we that we capture that cohesively.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Now, if you show up in person, then there's a
way to do this online as well. But if you
show up in person, how do you give your input?
You sit down and talk with an intervie viewer or
fill out a form? How does that work?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
It's going to be done two ways. We're going to
have folks that's going to be their live capturing information,
but we're going to always try to redirect folks who
can't I mean the folks that are there to put
it online because normally where do people store their information
in their telephones and their smartphones, so they'll have pictures
and things like that that they can upload to the
website and then we can capture that and the plan
is to have the team to come back and look
(03:24):
at that information and kind of and compile that information
so that way we know that we're addressing the different
vulnerabilities throughout the county.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
And if they can't be there in person Tuesday at
the Feeding Tampa Bay facility, there's an online survey. How
do people access that and take part in that?
Speaker 2 (03:42):
So they can go to the post disaster Tampa Bay
dot com link and then that allow them to upload
that information. It'll also give them a quick description of
what's going on and what the plan is. Also where
this event is taking place at as well.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
It sounds like it's going to be very hopefully useful
and interesting and hopefully make the community's response in the
county's response to future hurricanes and disasters quicker and faster
and smarter. So we appreciate it and wish you all
the best of success. C. K. Moore is the Planning
(04:18):
Section Chief for Hillsborough Emergency Management. Thank you very much
for joining us on Beyond the news,
