Speaker 1 (00:00):
Parry Bowman coach chef wafter at bish McDavid High School, coach,
haven't talked to you football for a couple weeks. You're
always talking football, but I haven't talked to you for
a couple weeks with the bye week and everything. But
before we get into the two weeks off and tonight,
there's some real sad news here with the bish mc
(00:23):
david High School football program here in with one of
the students in particular.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, unfortunately, Monday morning, I got in at six thirty
and right after I got into school, I had a
call from one of our cornerbacks, Shihi Clement, number thirteen, and.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
He said, Coach, I ever some really bad news.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
My dad died in a car accident early this morning
on the Turnpike coming back from Philadelphia.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
So it was rough telling the players.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
A lot of our guys took it hard because a
lot of guys on the team do him and friends
with Shahid.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
It was a rough.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Monday and Tuesday, you know, Wednesday, on short notice. We
only knew about at two o'clock on Tuesday that when
the funeral Rangers was gonna be, which was gonna be
Wednesday at noon.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
So h Connie Marsko did a great job.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Got the uh got we could only get one bus,
so we only took the varsity and we took thirty
to six kids down. Four coaches went down Wednesday to
the funeral room in Philadelphia. So, uh, it was a
tough week.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
I'm sure sure it has been. Uh, let's tuck a
little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
You know, we need to talk about State College two
weeks ago. H how'd you feel coming out of that game?
Had a couple We've had some injuries here. Maybe you
can fill us in two one at one. Who's looking
good this week? You're going to have a full roster.
But first, a little bit about the State college game.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
You know, we've been a real good football team. I
mean they came in i think ranked fifth and sixth
a til Harrisburg the double overtime. They were big running
back going to Syracuse. The young quarterback, he's gonna be
a real good one here. You know, he did a
good job. They have good receivers. Defensively, they're very good
(02:11):
in the secondary. They're big upfront. So I felt other
than the turnovers, we dominated all three phases of the game.
We've dominated obviously with two kickoff returns for touchdowns. Defense
against a very good offense, did a great job shutting
them down and hold him to twenty points. And really,
I mean it was really fourteen because you know, the
(02:32):
one unfortunate fumble where I was just going to take
a knee, run the clock out, they got one, you know,
one from our twenty yard line with like what three
seconds left, you know, So I thought we dominated and
I was very pleased, and you know, it was a good,
good way to jump start going into the bye week.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
You mentioned the running back going to Syracuse Chffy. I
didn't think they ran him a lot, which I think
is to your run defense.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Yeah, we did a great job and shutting him down.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Again, their big offensive line and they do a lot
of good things on offense.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
And again I think they didn't run it as much
because you know, we were, you know, we were stopping
the run. So the off week, did you go late
last week?
Speaker 4 (03:23):
And of course you can't anticipate what happened this week,
so it really changed the practices up a little bit
this week.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
So we gave them Monday off because it was a
physical game. We practiced Tuesday. You know, they gave the
coaches have a Monday off. You had the weekend and
Monday to self scout see what we you know, what
our tendencies are, office and the defensively, what we need
to work on. You know, I looked at some maybe
(03:50):
some wrinkles we want to throw in. So we worked
on the We did a lot of individual and group
work on Tuesday. We brought them back in Whennesday for
about a half hour short of than what we did Tuesday. Uh,
you know, started working on some things and kind of
at a sneaking suspicion that Mechanicsburg was probably going to
(04:14):
be the team we play. So we did work on
some things from adjustments from what we saw against them
last year. And then it gave them Thursday off with
all that rain, and then Friday we just had what
we you know, our practice where we worked on Tuesday
and Onnesday we worked special teams, but we worked a
(04:35):
little bit of red zone offense defense. But then we
just kind of did a game situate, stimulate some where
simulation where you know, we'll go offense and I'll say
I'll turn over, get the defense out in the field,
you know, work we pun there's a punt return, so.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Those are things we worked on.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Okay, so this week and of course, as you said,
it was a little different this week. Practice is being
different every day. Let's talk about tonight. You know a
lot about mechanics, pert most secrets.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
They know a lot about you. What have you been
working on in particular? And what do you see here
for tonight? You know, they're you know, they got a
very athletic quarterback.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
They don't throw as much as they did last year,
you know, but they put their big tight end in
the backfield and then they tick. You know, their Division
one defense attack is really good back in the backfield
and they'll go some power hide to try to run
the ball, you know, and rather than got caught key
and on the tailback and the quarterback just kind of
(05:37):
booted off the backside and went for a seventy three
yard touchdown to kind of sealed the deal last week.
So and then defensively they were very good defense. Haven't
given up a lot of points they you know, again,
they they have three returning starters and and two of them,
one committed to Western Michigan, the other one has an offer.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
One from Michigan, and the other one UH committed.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
The Sacred art. So essentially they got three Division one
guys up front. So you know we've been talking all week. Hey,
you know they played this stuff last year, gave us
a really good game. And and you know, we can't
just sit there and say, all right, we beat Stay College.
Where'd you come to gome in and do the same
thing to mechanics, Burt. We have to come out and
play a quarterback that can run.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
So you know, so like which would you rather have?
But a quarterback that can run?
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Do you have to slow your rush down so that
you don't overrun and he gets outside or you got
to beat him to his drop.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
What you do is you mix it.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
But you know, the biggest thing is guys have to
stand in their pass rush lanes. So and you know
the same thing with the blissing, and you always have
to go for the quarterback's back shoulders. Sometimes a guy
coming off the edge kind of get excited and go
and go the front shoulder and they'll spin out and
then there's nobody there.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
That's the biggest.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Concern is is if somebody gets caught inside and and
you know he gets out on the edge because you know,
besides being on a run, he did a nice he
throws a ball nice uh on the run through for
a long touchdown pass against red Land last week.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Okay, coach, well, Lord William will get a w tonight.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
We'll see you next week. Sounds good to me.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Your thanks,
