Speaker 1 (00:00):
Money bonea Jeff wetter vision McDavid high school coach goodwin
last week against an old rival CD and talked a
little bit about that last week, and I learned what
a rival was when I arrived here in two thousand
and eight.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I just thought growing up as a kid at John
Harris and that was the big rival, and realized a
lot about CDs.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
So it's a good win.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Got off to a shaky start, you know from what
you see up from up top. A little bit about
that first play was that an assignment thing? Was it
just the right call at the right time for them,
even if it was accidental.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Or you know, I think I told you last week
that we did have a good week of practice.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Guy screwing around, feeling themselves a little bit, and we
came out flat and.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
What we were to play, and it was more of
a not ready to play. You know.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
Our linebackers kind of got caught up. Our safeties were
playing too shallow. I mean, we were in man, but
you know, they were a four years of death when
they should have been at six or seven yards death.
It happened, you know, and we told them all week.
We told them right before in the TV time out
they're going to on.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Side kick it, and we were asleep.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
And then, I mean we slept through that first two series.
I mean we made mistakes on defense on their second score,
you know. So I just told the guys when we
went back on my offense is there are no fourteen
point touchdowns. We got to take this one series at
a time. And I think what calmed us down a
lot was that the offense did a great job going

(01:32):
down the field and getting the score.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah. I thought that was big.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
And we're talking up top as how you can't get
it back in one play, and I knew that you
were not. That's not your style. You're not going to
get it back in one play unless you see something
right not.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
With this team right now. Yeah, I mean it's just
not who we are.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
Yeah, So ended up balanced once again. We talk a
little bit about that.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
But so you get to touchdown and get it back
to fourteen to seven, and from there it's all mcdevin.
And they don't score until the second half after thirty
yards of penalties, uh, some misconducts and things. So you
lose your center and that offensive line is getting beat up,
getting nicked up, and so you lose Jude slower early
on and throughout the game. That was that was definitely

(02:16):
evident with a new center going in there.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Yeah, it throw us off. Not that we had two
guys go in and try. They didn't get much practice,
and you know, we were getting preceded penalties because they
were actually snapping the ball late. Poor or Land of
Culbert was announced three times over by the head official.
That was him, But it was everybody other than the center.

(02:40):
You just late snapped in the ball. And then we
had some high snaps. We had some things that you
know that would have been nice plays.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
It just the whole. It doesn't matter if it's anything
in the run game, anything in the past game. It's
all timing.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
And when you get that real high snap, it throws
the time and get everything off and just ruins the play.
But I mean, we knew we were gonna have to
go through that without Jude. I mean, Jude, Jude's done
a great job for us the last two years and
you know, hopefully we're getting back here sometime soon.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
But you know, we were down Andre Mayna again. Uh
you know, he's a game time decision tonight.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
And then Adim mctish got punched in the face on
a pat as nose was bleeding, and we get the ball,
recover the ball on the kickoff, and we have to
throw you know, Noel Cobb, who's a nice player for us,
but he's a guard, not a tackle, but we were
out of tackles.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
We had to throw him in an offensive tackle.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
So, you know, we I've probably never had a year
like this where we've had so many injuries and and
you know, as I was saying earlier, is they're all happening.
At the beginning of game. John Tae Quick was the
first kickoff of the game, lost him for the rest
of the game. Andre Mayno was a fifth play against Altuna,
lost him for the game and the next two weeks.
And then we you know, Jude, you know that was

(03:57):
the fourth or fifth place. So you know, it heard us,
and you know it shows it. I think everybody out there,
how valuable is the centers, you know, and Juda has
been playing well all year loan and played well last year,
so you know, it took us for a little bit
of a loop.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
For a while.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
I'm glad you mentioned about the snaps, the high snaps.
People that listen to me know that I talk about
all the time, and the last few years we've been
blessed not you know, not even having to worry too
much about that. You watch the other team and you
see what the high snaps does and people don't realize
that second that means that the line has to hold
the block an extra second. The timing of the block

(04:34):
and going into the secondary and all that.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
You know, we had we had a big play on
the trap, but by the time, by the time Sebastian
brought the ball down, the back was already through, so
he had to essentially try to make something happen and
he ate it for about a yard loss.

Speaker 5 (04:50):
But it would have been a big play for us.
Let's talk about the young quarterback. How do you see him?

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Where do you see him right now? I personally again,
and you always know so much more than I'm not
aware of.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
But I thought he had a decent game on Friday,
had some nice throw He.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Had a real good game. Just made one mistake. The
one was the one was you know, I thought the
ball on the first drive the gauge Ruth was probably
his best throw all year.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
He got it up there as the Holy gauge is
gonna make it. It was a difficult throw. I mean,
Gauge was bracketed. Who call the side pocket fade, and
he made a great throw on it was probably the
best throw.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Made some good decisions, uh you know, we you know,
we knew and.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
We could get them on some bubbles because they're inside
linebacker or there outside linebacker wants to play the run
so much, and we called them early and then they
started changing their defense and you know, we missed a
block out there and it almost got.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Ish Palmer killed.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
But the next time when we came out in the
second half, we worked on a halftime is is run
a bubble go, but we also had Ish instead of
just bubble he ran wheel route and their corner actually
they played it a cover three and was off and
Gage took him and he went with Gage, and we

(06:15):
had nobody onsh. I thought that was a good readbuy Sebashians.
We talked about getting probably getting Gauge upen on that
because we thought it was gonna be a too high
cover two. So the only mistake he made, and you
know it's tough because they're dropping is right before the
half and you know, we tried to throw essentially the

(06:35):
same throw that he completed the gage to the first drive,
hit Gauge on a side pocket and he just didn't
get the ball up high enough and you got to intercept.
Betther than that, I thought he played a good game.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
I don't know how much was game plan.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
I know, you always whatever they're giving you and everything,
but it really looked like you wanted to wear them
down with swoops and then later on you come with
Jeralm LaRue.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
Is that's just the way the.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Ball it's the way it worked out.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
I mean, we thought we could wear them down because
they had quite a few kids playing book ways. What
they were doing is after the first or second drive,
they really start pinching their defensive line to take away,
you know, our ice and power and I mean we've
run duo the last couple of weeks very well and
they were kind of taking that away. So at halftime

(07:22):
we just said, you know, we made it a little
bit of a switch. We switched jerseys with Chris Thompson
from his twenty three back to his old fifty one,
so he played the outfensive line. We threw him at
a right tackle because we knew we wanted to get
outside and we want him a little bit quicker tackle,
and that's hence we start getting the pin pool outside

(07:42):
and we start getting the toss outside. But it just
kind of the way it worked out. I mean, Swoops,
it is our number one running back, and you know,
the other two are real good running backs, but they know,
we know that Swoops is the best running back we
have now and he's going to get he's going to
get more carriers than they do.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
And so it wasn't it's more what they took away
from us. And you know, like I said, it's what
they were giving us.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
So you know, if you're gonna if you're gonna pinch everybody,
then you're a little week outside.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
It was getting chippy more than even chippy. A lot
of mouthing going on and things like that, and you
have to be careful. You lose a guy on sportsmanlike
or whatever, and there it goes. So I kind of guessed,
which you know, we always joke about me never guessing you.
I kind of thought you'd get the kids together to
him in the third quarter. What'd you talk to him
about there?

Speaker 4 (08:31):
You know, I talked to him like, listen, you got
to play for bish mc devon, nough for yourself. Be
a team, good teammate. You know, the penalties were killing us.
I mean, luckily after the first one we still scored
on the first drive, but you know they're only touchdown
after the fourteen nothing was we had them. It was

(08:52):
gonna be third and eleven or fourth and eleven, and
we got two penalties to give them thirty yards and
that's how they scored.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
And it was real cheapy.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
I'm like, listen, we can't have anybody get kicked out
because you're gonna have to sit out and not only
this game, the next two games. And I said, but
we can't do that, And I said, you know, I
know they're getting chippy. I know, you know, I know
Ady mctish wasn't over there on the pat picking his
nose and his nose blanded. I know, he got punched
in the face, which is really dirty, and they were

(09:23):
playing really dirty and but we just have to get
up and walk away and so hopefully it got through
to him the fourth quarter. Hopefully, you know, it goes
that way the rest of the year, because we were
doing a lot of that last year, especially against East
and you know, it took us until the district final
to really come together as a team, and guys stopped

(09:44):
doing it and start playing for the team instead of
themselves and taking selfish penalties.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
So you got East tonight. What do they bring to
the table. What are you looking for tonight?

Speaker 4 (09:53):
I mean they have athletes, you know they you know,
they they're struggling a quarterback, some injuries. They played like
three guys. We saw the film, you know, we followed them.
I mean from the Chambersburg game home. We we followed them.
We always played the next opponent, so we've seen a
ton of film on them. You know, I'm impressed with

(10:16):
their defensive line. You know, they they got some quickness
and they come off the ball, you know. So you know,
we have to be ready. But you know, we can't
have any letdowns like we did last week, because they've
got athletes that if you have a letdown, they're gonna
make you pay for it.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
Coach Bestia and celebrate another wind tonight.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
All right, thanks a lot, Marty.

Speaker 5 (10:37):
Thanks good
