Speaker 1 (00:00):
Marit Golman with coach Jeff Wicker Busiekdavi, a high school coach,
could win last week against Cumberland Valley, we'll talk about
where we're at the season, seven games in with three
to play.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
It talked a little bit about Cumberland.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Valley, what you liked, what you you know, came away thinking,
you know, we didn't do.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
This very well, and you know they're a good quality team.
It was a good win for us, especially as shorthanded
as we are with all the injuries. I thought the
offense played really well. I thought the defense played well.
You know. The other thing I really didn't like is

(00:38):
all the penalties. We've been pretty good. I'm not getting
holding penalties on offense. We had two and they were
a little bit ticky tag but in the same token
we did hold and we and it was one didn't
have to happen at all because the running back was
already passed. The other one was happening on a trap.
And you know, our our guard just got a little

(00:59):
too defensively. Too many pension appearances. Holding penalties, you know
it uh some when you watch film, some were some
were kind of questionable, but you know, you're gonna get
a cup. You're gonna get every once in a while

(01:20):
one because you're we played a lot of you know,
straight man, you know, with no help mix in some zone.
I thought the defensive coaches did a good job, had
a good game plan, you know. But overall, you know,
just you know, the injuries. You know, we in the game,

(01:41):
we lost Aiden Graw or a kicker, you know, John
Tay went down again, and and you know, Chilen Smith
didn't play pretty much, really didn't play the second half.
H So it's just one of those years that we
just seem to keep on getting injuries, and you know,
luckily we've had the depth to withstain it. But it's
getting hard, and so we're hoping, you know, get through

(02:04):
these next three games and you know, get ready for
make hopefully get a buy and he up a little
bit and uh, you know, make him run. So but overall,
I was pleased.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Zer Jones Davis goes over one hundred. The offensive line
without Andre Mayna. I don't know what you can share
with us on him, but it seemed like the offensive
line played well. And as usual, Swoops just does not
go down on that first hit.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
No, you know, he you know, we we've got as
as people say, the three headed monster at running back,
but you know he's our top dog. And the other
thing is I've always gone when you have multiple running
backs that you play whoever has the hot hand, and
he obviously had the hot hand on Friday night. The

(02:50):
offensive line did did block well. You know, we have
one miss mistake on a pass protection, but other than
that played pretty well. As far as he's like the
rest of most of the guys are week to week,
we don't know. Uh, you know, we're testing Andre out

(03:10):
tonight in pregame to see if he's ready to go
or not. You know, we'll see. But everybody's week the week,
and just don't know when you know, everybody can be
it took it took swoops. He missed the Chambersburg game,
he didn't play much in the Cedarcliff game because he
just wasn't really effective. But each week you see he's

(03:34):
getting a little bit better because you know, he's starting
to get get his old be back to his old
self before the injuries. So yeah, you know, everybody's week
to week and I know, again you can only say
so much.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
But John take quick with the lower leg seems to
have one of those injuries it's easily aggravated almost each game.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yeah, it was on the same leg, the same injury.
You know, again, he's week the week, we'll see, We'll
see where he's at tonight in pre game and take
it from there.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Rob Acleice with a question about the defense you et
ce last week that you wanted to didn't feel like
you were disguising the blitzeres as uh, well, it seems
like the blitzers were really effective against Conroy Valley. Was
that something you did. Was that the CV line or
maybe a combination.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
You know, they did do a better job. You know,
we're just tipping it off, getting a little anxious, you know,
showing it before the staff. We still did a couple
of times, but also you know, we blitzed from depth,
and you know it's a little bit more elements of surprise.
But you know, you know they did a better job,
you know, our linebackers. But the other thing is I

(04:46):
would say that it was CD's offensive line is kind
of like their scheme, I don't know, a long time
ago from Dick Shiner that when a team plays you
in what we call ten person now, the whole game
or most of the game without a fullback. I mean
sometimes they brought one in who really played a lot

(05:07):
of receiver, they brought him in, and even Jaden e
Roll a couple of times where they brought him on
a wing. But really they're playing ten personnel, which is
four wide receivers, no tight end, no fullback. And when
you play like that, you know, you blit them, you know,
learning a long time from ago from Dick Shiners, you
blitz it. And you know, you know, when I met

(05:29):
with the defense last Monday, you know, I told Mike Barrier,
defensive coordinator, I'm like, just think back to twenty nineteen
when you tried to run the same offense. When you're
offense quarter in mechanicsbur at what we do to you
and he started laughing. I said, yeah, that's what we
need to do. And he did a good job because
you know, mixing in he still mixed in some zone
coverage and so overall, again, I thought the defense played

(05:55):
really well.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Linebackers r J. Duffy, he's always on the football. Maurice
Orange when he comes on that blitz, he's got to
be tough to block because he's so fast.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah, you know, he's done a great job. He worked
very hard in this offseason. Get more explosive than he is,
much more explosive, and yeah, I mean he's he's doing
a great job for us.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
So as a whole seven games in three to go,
how are you feeling where you're at right now? Let's
take the injuries away. Obviously you got account for them.
You're the one who's got to count for them, not me.
But where are you at right now with this team
or where are they at?

Speaker 2 (06:32):
You know, we're getting better, We've got better each week
for the most part, I think. I think the defense
is playing well. You know, both sides of the ball
and special teams had a rough go the first game
of the year against Clarkson North. I thought we improved
a lot against Harrisburg. You know, we got beat up

(06:52):
in that game. You know, with injuries, we're progressing the
way I thought. It's just a little tough because of
week to week, you don't know who's gonna play. And
you know, as I said last week, with Johntey out,
not only is your he's your speed receiver, he's your
best route runner, but he's such a great blocker from
slot on our outside run on our bubble screens, and

(07:16):
now you have to replace him with different people. People
are starting to know and we put a bigger guy
on the slot, we're either running outside or you know.
So you know it's a challenge. You know. We're just
trying to get through these last three games as healthy
as we can, you know, with three wins, and like
I said, hopefully have a bye week in the first
round of the playoffs. Get healthy. And then you know,

(07:38):
we we have not we have not had our full
team together other than the first game, you know, so
we're anxious to see what we can be. And you
know the other thing is, you know, without having a Johnta,
having Andre and and Eli Kulpever did a real good
job stepping in for Andre. The guys have been stepping

(08:01):
in front Johntay have done a good job. But me
as a play caller, I have to change, you know,
I had to change. Andre is such a good pass blocker.
I had to change some of our plash and passes
a little bit to give Eli help John Tay, like
I said, it's just we have not gone a whole
lot of ten personnel without him, and we had we

(08:25):
put in a really really nice new past concept last
week against the coverage that we're gonna play with us
out of a three by one uh set, And but
John Tay was like the key call of that, and
you know, so we didn't even run it. And hopefully,

(08:45):
you know, we can get a little bit more, you know,
because teams are just starting to gang up on our
on our run game and blitzen us. So hopefully, you know,
when we get on the playoff run, we're you know,
we're healthy and can use our full everything.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
We dot's go back, turn the clock back two thousand
and eight. I didn't know a lot about Bisham mcdebit
foot Bay, And the one thing I learned very quickly
over the first couple of years was how big a
rivalry tonight's opponent Center Dolphin. You know, you go back
to the Catholic football with Holy Name. Those kids played together,

(09:21):
some kingde mcdebit, some went to CD, some came here
then left for CD and Dad's coaching and so on
and so forth.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
But it was quite a rivalry.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
I think it still is for a lot of the kids.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
I told the team one Monday and Tuesday, I'm like, listen,
you know, everybody thinks and I thought this. I would
have thought this when I started in nineteen ninety eight
that Harrisburg is pritchim mcdefvon's biggest rival in football. I
learned very quickly that it is Central Dolphin and I

(10:00):
told the team that I said, and it was. And
even in twenty ten when they moved us down to
the Keystone, we still played Central Dolphin for three more
years and it still was. And I said, the problem
is none of you guys remember that. And yeah, we
played him last year, but you know, you guys haven't

(10:21):
played Central golfin at Atlanta's field. And I said, you
better get ready for a big game because to them,
it's a big game and it needs to be. It's
a big game for us. You know, we've told the
team since the Harrisburg loss, we're in playoff mode. You
know that one one we might be one and done.
And so you know, again we need another win tonight

(10:43):
and we need to play well.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
What CD bring to the table that you know you're
really going to have to look at, you know.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
First things first is again Aiden grell is week to
week game time decision. See how he is in pre
game tonight? You know, Campbell Milch stepped into the good
job with the pats and kickoffs. Love to have aid
and kicking the ball for touchbacks because central Golf. And
what jumps out of you the most is they've had

(11:13):
five kickoff returns for touchdowns in seven games, which is
a really high amount. They do a great job blocking
and number five does a great job return to the ball. Defensively,
you know, they play their defense since we've been going
since we've been going against them since twenty thirteen. I

(11:34):
haven't seen them since then, but other than last year,
but they pretty much do the same things now. They
do a lot of blitzing. They hurt us a little
bit early last year because with their defensive stunts lion
stunts and then with their blitzing. So we expect that tonight. Offensively,
you know, they do a great job. They give you

(11:56):
a ton of formations, a ton and that's our biggest
issue defensively is just to line up correctly to all
the formations. And and they'll run some wildcat. Their quarterback
can throw a little bit, but he he's a very
good runner. He was out for maybe a week or two.
They put their running back a quarterback and ran a

(12:18):
lot of wildcat you know, they're always physical, always physical.
They'll be even more physical against us, So you know,
we've got to play well, will win.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
One of the things you've taught me. You mentioned the
running quarterback Penn State learned Saturday.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Apparently they didn't know before that.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
But when you have to count for the quarterback, you're
taking a man off of defense.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Yeah, I normally they didn't normally normally, you know, if
you don't have a running quarterback, you're playing ten on there,
eleven on defense. When you have a running quarterback, it
goes to eleven on eleven. So yeah, I mean there's
some things that you know we need to do and
and uh yeah, but it should be a good game tonight.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Appreciate it, coach, best to you and uh and celebrate
a win tonight.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
All right, So thanks a lot, Marty.
