Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jeff Lector Bisham Kevin High School coach, another good win
last week over Exeter, second time we've seen him in
two years. Let's talk a little bit about that game
and what you saw coming out of there.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
You know, coming in, you know, they had a lot
of size or two inside linebackers were like six five
six four two twenty five, a.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Decent size up front.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
On offense, you know, they have an experienced quarterback that's
thrown for a lot and the running back set the
Brooks County rushing record and he had speed.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
I thought the defense played really really well.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
I mean, I think their first team defense had less
than fifty their first team offense had on our first
team defense had less than fifty yards total. Now they
ended up I think with sixty three because they got
some on our back ups. But I thought defense played
really well, held it down for the offense.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
To get going.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
We were a little bit slow starting, you know, didn't
think the offense line played a good first quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
We let him know about it.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
They played much better for the rest of the game,
and and you know, I thought Sebastian Williams threw really well.
That's probably his best game. You know, here you know,
he threw with anticipation, and you know there's sometimes this year.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
That he's been late with the ball.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
On Friday night, that's Friday night, he was, Uh, he
was on target and uh you know, throwing when he
should have thrown.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
So very pleased with that.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
It was good to get out out with win, you know,
without really any major injuries and uh so it was
a good night.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Let's talk about the passing game a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Sebastian seeds be improved.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
You know, you see each weekends it goes by how
much is a contribution to the fact that John take
Quick is back and how Howard Holton Junior is really
good developing himself as a receiver.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
It's helped a lot having John take back, even though
you know he only had two or three catches, but
you know they were good plays. As we move forward here,
hopefully getting the ball a little bit more. But you know,
one of the things that we start seeing, especially in
passing downs when John tay was out, is people started
kind of you know in out coverage, uh Howard on

(02:17):
the backside.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Whereas with John Tay back.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Uh, these last two weeks, you know, Howard's getting some
single coverage again backside, and and he's doing a great
job of beating that single coverage and Sebastian's doing a
really good job, you know, getting in that.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
That last touchdown was an r PO.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
You know we were running that way and you know,
reading that outside linebacker side lineber stepped up. They gave
hour one on one backside and he made a good route. Uh,
specially made a really good throw and then Howard just
does what Howard does? You know, he made a move
and get the touchdown. So, uh, it's been a big
help is having John tay back.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
It seems like over the last few weeks, maybe even
five six weeks, you've developed some depth on defense, which
is evident with a lot of different numbers out there
now throughout the course of the game, not just at
the end of the game. The linebacking corps will talk
about first in particular, there was a lot made in
the linebacking corps and r. J. Duffy did not get

(03:17):
a lot of attention from the media before the season,
but he's just he's all over the ball, and you
combine that with Maurice Barnes and of course we thought
Swoops was going to be back there a lot, but
you've had the blessed and not having to play him
at linebacker. So talk a little bit about that linebacking
corps and about some of the guys that have stepped

(03:37):
up as safety and you know, additional linebackers.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
You know, first of all, r J has had a
great season, and I'm not sure why I was a
little underready coming in.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
I thought he did a good.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Job last year, the last when he played the last
eight games, including a state championship game. You know, after
Benny Brooks went down. Maurice is playing his best ball
that he's he's played in his four years here. He's
having a great year at linebacker. You know, the plan
was to play swoops maybe once we get past first
two games, you know, because of the heat. You know,

(04:13):
he does cramp up sometimes, uh and then you know,
working back in at linebacker. But then he's been battling
that ankle injury all all season long. So you know
what we've done is we've kind of played more of
a four two nickel where we bring an extra defensive
back and that's been Patrick Wright. You know, Patrick gives

(04:35):
us you know some things covering slot uh and coverage,
but you know, He's a physical kid, runs well.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
And then.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Kimba milches Is is really coming on. You know, we
we uh you know, I told Mike Berry, our defensive coordinator,
come an when when his dad was my defensive coordinator,
we used to always talking to who's that senior it's
just kind of come up that you don't really plan on,
that just kind of comes out of nowhere and has
a great year. And you know, I told Mike that.
And then early in the season I said to Mic like, hey,

(05:06):
you know, and he goes, I already told my dad
Kembell milch Campbell's played well. And then you know Ethan
Miller when he gets in does a good job, you know,
playing linebacker.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
And then you know when our young guys come in.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
We've got some young guys come in and they've been
doing a pretty good job.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
So happy, really happy with the linebacker crew this year.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
I talk about a couple more personal things with you.
First off, congrats another grandchild to arrive in here.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Just pay this weekend.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, Coach Brandon Walkter, him and his wife Emily had
a baby girl on Saturday night. You know, he called
me during walkthrow on Friday and said they just induced her, uh,
I'll be up there, and he got here like the
middle of pre game, and when the clock hit zero,
he was headed back down the Lancaster to you know,
to be with her. She had the baby on Saturday evening.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
So grand Shair a new new crusader to the bunch exactly.
As for you, a little bit on the personal side
is that you're going back home Friday and we're playing
so Lanka, we're playing Matt Warwick. You got started there,
you graduated.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Mayor coach from there. So what's it feel like going
back home? You know it?

Speaker 2 (06:26):
You know, during the year I was hoping we get
Warwick in the playoffs and then you know, Friday night,
you know I would saying the Robert Lease after the game.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Art Man Slanko.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
I think the two best places for a for a
neutral site is either Warwick or man Hunt Township. And
you know, I was actually going in Sunday about eleven
o'clock to go see my new granddaughter, and Connor text
me and said Warwick and it made my day.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
I mean it is. It is actually the first time.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
I'll be on that field since nineteen ninety two I
played at Warwick.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
I started my midjor football Warwick.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
My dad coached there for thirty years on the same field,
and so you know, I started my coaching career. I
was assistant of Warwick. I was a defensive coordinator for
three years. I spent five years there and you know,
so it's kind of like I feel like my coaching

(07:33):
is going full circle now, you know, to hopefully win
a district title there and maybe get something else there too.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
So I'm going to enjoy it tonight.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
So to talk a little bit about that to make
your home coming a little bit not pleasant. So Anko
is going to play with the triple option, and we
don't see it very often. Let's talk a little bit
about tonight, what you're going.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
To see and how you deal with that.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Yeah, I mean it's a paint in the butt offense.
We did see it once this year against Altoona. We
did very well against it. I thought, now they they
didn't run it the way they did the year before
when they almost beat us out here at mc devitt.
You know, they they went more shotgun, which gives you

(08:21):
a little more time for your defense. Now they did
something under center, but Slanko runs all under center, and
what happens is it hits a little quicker, you know,
that option hits quicker and a little less time to
react and when it's shotgun. So you know, they have
a full back that I think has gotten over eighteen
hundred yards. They got a wing back that's gotten over

(08:44):
one thousand. Quarterback will run the ball, you know, they
they've you know, coach Barry does a great job of
doing analytics and you know, and he got them down
for eighty five run and now they will roll the
ball a little bit. But that's the problem is you know,
when your defensive back start getting eyes of trying to

(09:05):
who they're going to read and if you know, if
they run an option, do I have the pitch band
and all that, they sometimes forget that the receiver they
got covered the receiver.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
So yeah, I mean it's uh.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
You know, last time we played Slanko was and the
only time we played them in my area. I know,
when Fort Chapman.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Was there.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Here at the head coach, they played Slanko at mcdevon
and down there Slanko. We've only played them once in
my era in twenty fifteen in the playoffs, and you know,
we just have to play at Simon football on defense
and just not let them you know they're don't move
the ball some, but just not unscore. But also not
let them hag the ball like aw Tuna did here

(09:47):
in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Does that triple option because of late we the linebackers
have been blitzing a lot. We're getting to the quarterbacks
for a lot of tackles for losses. Does that option
costs you that half second on the defense.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
A little bit, Yeah, especially when it's under center.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
So and any special plan for tonight, I mean maybe rain.
We're not sure yet, But what are you looking for
for tonight?

Speaker 2 (10:15):
You know, like I said, we can't let them hold
the ball on our offense. We can't have turnovers and penalties.
You know, we we were much better last week. You know,
we didn't have thirty and thirties and things like that.
But you know, we even got to clean that up
a little bit. We had two holding calls three one
wasn't a holding call, but two were. So we just

(10:37):
have to clean that up a little bit. I thought
we cleaned up down Sportsman a little bit. So we
just can't have penalties and do what we do, and
you know, we can't come out. We were complacent on
our offense, especially the offensive line the first quarter of
the game last week, and you know, we can't, you know.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
And then also you know early on in drive, you know,
we had.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
A we had a third and four or five and
we threw a hitch and you know, receiver tried to
take off with the ball before he looked it into
a stock dropped it.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Then we had the pump. We can't.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
We got to make the best of all our opportunities
of drives against this team, because you don't want to
waste one because you just don't know how many of
them you're going to get appreciated.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Coach, best to you tonight, and we'll be looking forward
hopefully to it right out west next week.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Sounds good.
