Speaker 1 (00:00):
Marty Bowma along side to part Selby today with coach
Jeff wecktor Bisho mc Teviot High School coach. The team
from the North came down a lot of talk before
the game, knew they were going to be physical. I
think one of the hopes from your staff was you
would wear them down in the second half and be
able to take over with the run game.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
But that never really happened.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
And we'll talk about they kind of maybe wore us down,
but let's look back on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
They brought some things.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
A young offensive line for you, brought a lot of
blitzers and everything made it really tough on the run game,
which I know you were hoping to get that run
game established and give the new quarterback time to come along.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Talk a little bit about Saturday.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yeah, I mean we wanted to come out run the football,
which we did. I mean, we picked up the first
down in the first series, run the football, and we
felt we barely had any film on them. We had
a scrimmage on them tape where they're not going to
show you a lot, and we did run the ball.
We felt we could run it and we did well.

(01:00):
You know, they did what they should have done. They
blitzed us. We have a young quarterback to an experienced
offensive tackles. They brought the house and they brought. They
always no matter what we did, they always brought one
more than we had the block. So that's good, good
on their part, good adjustment. They had athletes out there
that were covering pretty well. I thought quite a few

(01:22):
should have been holding in you know, as I as
I said, you know is if they're'll blitch you and
play press man and your defensive backs are allowed to hold,
it's gonna be a long day. And it was a
long day offensively for us.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
It was a point in the second quarter, down by
one touchdown.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
And I say this knowing that field goals in high
school are not as easy as what everybody sees Sunday
with the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
There's a lot involved, a lot of things can go wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
When you were down by that one touchdown on a
second hand, did you think about a field goal or
were you thinking one, it's a learning experience. We need
to pick up the first down, and two we might
not have that, I mean opportunities to score anyway.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
So I believe or not, don't fall fall down. I
actually wanted to go for a field goal on my
offensive staff talked.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Me out of it.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Oh, I hate that, you know, you know, and it
was kind of what you said, you know, get that experience.
And also we also didn't know how many chances we'd
have the ball back, especially in that territory, and really
we had the right play call on to get the

(02:31):
first down and we just didn't execute it. But you
know it is we have great faith in in Aiden Guerrilla,
but at that point we felt the young offense needed
some confidence.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
So that's pretty much answer to that.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
The new Cutter quarterback Sebastian Williams thirteen for twenty six
And I know you probably did not want to throw
the ball twenty six times Saturday, but let's talk a
little about Sebastian and.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
How he did know We we wanted to come out
run the football and then get him and where we
could placch and pass and get those linebackers up.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Didn't do it.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Like like I said after the game, it is a
tough defense to go your first you know start, you know,
you know, just says the South College was a tough
start for Stone. So Stone bounced back, hopefully Sebastian's gonna
bounce back. Also, he did some good things. Fully, threw

(03:34):
the ball pretty well on the run. He did some things.
He missed some reads, missed some checks, you know, miss
some throws, and you know we've got to clean all
that up when we do. And you know it wasn't
just him. You know, the offensive line made mistakes. Uh,
you know, the whole offense made mistakes. When he did

(03:56):
throw the ball on four on a third down, that
would have picked the first time we dropped the football.
So you know, it was a you know, as I
told the team afterwards, we went as a team and
lose as a team, And it was certainly a team effort.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Uh. So you know, hopefully we're gonna get better to that.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
As a as a coach.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Late in the game, when you are worn down and
they're just driving the ball, driving the ball, it's just
like wish this clock would just run out. You feel
bad for your kids because they're getting beat physically.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
No, I mean, the competitor is we're gonna keep on
fight until the end. I mean, if we took that attitude,
you know, that would have been a blowout up at
State College and so where we actually should have won
the game. Uh, you know, we're gonna keep on rolling,
and you know we you know, it's even if we
didn't come back and win, it's always an opportunity to
learn and to just kind of say, I let the

(04:47):
clock run down. Not that last series yet, you know,
but but other than that, now we're you know, uh,
at that point that last series, there was no point
in to try to throw the ball just because down
by twenty points.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
You know, he has some good things.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
The worst part, I mean the interceptions to pass interference,
you know, and then he throws a real pick, and
now you.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Know that's in his that's the last thing in his head.
So uh, you know, that's just kind of way we went.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
So this week practice wise, what were some of the
things that you wanted to emphasize.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
We went back to some basics. You know, we we
were misaligned sometimes on defense and some of that we
weren't ready. We got to we have a new defense
pretty much, a new defensive staff. You know, they went,
they went no huddle on us. We're getting some calls,
we get lined up faster. But you know, the biggest

(05:46):
thing I was disappointed is in our tackling. I mean,
if we tackle better I think we hold them to
fourteen points and they don't have as much yardage. And
so we went back to basics. We worked on our tackling,
We worked on our offensive line really coming off a
line of scrimmage and creating a new line of scrimmage

(06:08):
the way we did. And you know, we had we
did not have a good practice practice. We had no
energy for whatever reason. I think that's just you know,
guys starting to learn how to be leaders on the team.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
But we had we had good energy and good practices
this week.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Positive I took away is O Jones.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Davis Swoops as we call him, really broke a ton
of tackles, but there were just so many other shirts
there when we'd break and he just couldn't get that
step to get out in the open.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yeah. I mean it.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
He's hard to bring down and he just needs a
little sliver and a lot of time. Again, it's just
they're bringing one more than we could and they're getting penetration.
You know, when you blitz, you just put your ears back,
and they were getting penetration. He's getting in the backfield,
you know. I told him after the game, I told
him about the two thousand and four State Semifinals against

(07:03):
Pittsburgh Central Catholic. I said, Shady McCoy had like thirty
eight yards on twenty three carries, and he made some
great runs that game just to get out of the backfield.
And Swoops made some great runs just to get out
of the backfield. So again, you know, we're excited again
about Swoops. We're excited about our other running backs. You know,

(07:25):
we just have to do better and not let people
do that to us.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Just back to Williams QB for a minute.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
I know we talked over the years, you don't want
your quarterbacks to see the rush. They got to look
down the field, they got to read, they got to
find a receiver. When you review it the tape with him,
are there times where you look at and say, okay,
you needed to run there because there was nothing and
it collapsed and that was okay. And now this time,
you know, look up if you hold it for half

(07:52):
a second and don't take all he got something.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
There was more.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
He got out when he needed to, except for one
or two times where he really all should actually been
thrown a little bit sooner, or the one maybe just
taking a slight step up in the pocket instead of
taking four steps up in the pocket. Again, that's just experience.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Okay, So let's switch to game time. Harrisburg, get right,
will be and all that. All the talk, it's just ridiculous.
You know, you hear about it. I'm sure you don't
read it.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
But it's all that talk social media and everything. But
the point is, it's a football game. So what do
you need to do.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah, we don't listen to any of that. At least,
I don't care less what anybody says. We need to improve.
We need to tackle better, we need to play better defense,
we need to play a lot better offensively, and you know,
and hopefully we will.

Speaker 4 (08:49):
That'll be the key, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
You know I told the team last year that they
got blown out by Let's how College came back and
beat us, and we have to respond like they did
last year. They got better in between one to two
and that's what we have to do. So, you know,
that's what I'm looking for.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
What in particular about Harrisperm wouldn't be the most concern.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
I know that.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Listen, they have great talent, they do some good things.
They're doing a little bit more on offense. You know,
Coke is is you know every time they throw a
ball up, he comes down with it. You know, there's
no really fifty to fifty balls with us, about eighty
percent that he's coming down with the ball. Mancn's I think,
got a little faster, a little more explosive running the ball.

(09:37):
I mean, he looked good last week against METEP Charter.
And then you know, defensively, you know, Mancins is a
real concern coming off the edge. I mean he he
is so fast, I mean he was he was beaten
an offensive tackle by MTAP Charter that committed that Maryland

(10:00):
a drum.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
So you know, we've got to you know, we've got
to come play football and uh just and and I
think we will. I'll be disappointed if we don't.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Okay, coach appreciate it. Hopefully next week we'll be talking

Speaker 4 (10:11):
About at W all right, sounds good
