Speaker 1 (00:00):
Party Bowmen with coach Jeff ackor Fisher McDavid High School
coach good Win last week gets over the five hundred
mark to three and two. Talk a little bit about
the game and what you saw, what you liked, and
you know what you came away thinking, how you know
we got a polycist.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
You know, going into the game, you know, not quite
sure what to expect. You know, I felt our defense,
you know, would dominate, and they did offensively. You know,
they run that three stack we saw for the second
time this year or so. It was a little easier.
They actually have a really good defensive lineman. He didn't
(00:37):
play much because he had he was coming in. He
missed the week before with a knee injury, so we
had to account for him. We changed some things up,
how we're going to do some different things if he
was because they moved him around, so you know, but
he he only played one or two series and then
went out. So you know, we ran the ball well,
(01:00):
you know, Spatchly made a real good read on the
deep ball to Howard Holton. You know, we kind of
knew that they were going to be in a third
and five down in the high red zone. We kind
of knew they were going to be in manda man,
and we took advantage of that. You know what people don't,
you know, So it's a play. You know, we were
(01:24):
clustering in trips. You know, we're running. You know, we
scored on it in the overtime against Harrisburg last year,
but they kind of jumped our running back out in
the flat. So it was gauge that was wide open
in the back of the end zone. So we're kind
of rolling rubs, which which is a mesh type of play,
but we're we do it when we expect man de man.
(01:47):
We actually had Howard Holden wide open on that too,
because he's coming underneath the mesh part of it. But
we also get our back out into you know, you
call it traffic, mesh traffic, and Drum did a good
job because actually their defensive ends start coming inside and
(02:10):
there was just a small hole for him to get
through and he kind of made himself skinny and jumped
through it, and of course he was wide open and
walked in the end zone and Howard had scored him
because Howard was open on it too. So we did
a lot of good things. You know, the game was
over early. You know, we didn't play our starters in
(02:31):
the second half, but you know we we were happy
with our twos and threes because they played their starting
especially the offense, but we moved the ball and you know,
chance home, we got a real nice deep ball, catch
a fifty to fifty ball. You know, they're starting offense
and defense played the whole game and you know, our
(02:52):
second twos and threes and on defense held them, you know, scoring,
So you know, we celebrate a little bit after the game.
You know, that was coach Barry his first defensive coordinator
first you know, shutout, so you should have one against
chambers Burg. But you know, again their first team against
our back ups. But uh so it was a good
(03:14):
win for us, and he wins a good win, especially
when you were coming into the game to him too.
So you know, things, you know, things we still got
to work on. You know, still need to sharpen up
pass pass game a little bit. You know, there's some
things on defense we've got to you know, clean up
a little bit. But all all, you know, it was
(03:34):
a good night for us.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
A couple of numbers that stood out to me, of course,
swoops as here Jones.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Davis He looked healthy, getting he's getting there. He looked
much better than he did the week before. You know,
he tried to go against Cedar Clifton really couldn't do
a whole lot. He's looked. He's looked even better in
practice this week. So I'm looking for a big game
tonight from him. But yeah, he played well.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Marty Bowman made a ball prediction up into booth that
Lord will we not be around to see the fulfillment
of this one. But I said that Maurice Barnes is
going to be an edge rusher in the NFL someday.
I just keep looking at him, and I look at
his size and the frame that he has, and he
can a lot to build it out on and everything.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
But both sides of the ball. Again, he played really,
he played well. I mean he carried a couple of
people in the end zone on a nine yard touchdown run.
You know, he was really you know, I put it
on his highlight reel. He was really as his number
one highlight. He came off the edge and he really
(04:41):
showed explosive This quarterback pulled the ball down and was
about ready to scramble and reach just came out of nowhere.
You know, Reche is a great player, two way kid
who's been starting for US at linebacker since to been
a freshman. Can't he's a great player. Can't say enough
about I thought.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Another another name that stood out to me a lot
was Patrick Ray.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Thought he had a good game. Yeah, you know Patrick,
he finally got a chance to really practice. You know,
Patrick didn't move in from Minnesota until really heat acclamation.
He had heat acclamation and then you know, for the
(05:25):
Harrisburg game, he was sick all week, so he didn't
take reps and we had him playing kind of like
an outside linebacker, you know, where he was playing safety
before he came him on the field a little bit more.
And you know, he made some real good plays in
a Harrisburg game, but he made some things where he
didn't really know what he was doing. Unfortunately. You know,
(05:45):
he made great play on a bubble and but he
sprained his ankle, so he missed the Chambersburg game, came
back for a Cedar Cliff, but because the ankle, he
really didn't practice at all that week. So this past week,
you know, against Carlisle, he his ankle was healthy enough
(06:09):
and that he could practice and uh, you know, he
did have a good game.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
He touched on us a little bit. Rob Paglice wanted
me to ask this one. So halfway through the season,
what do you really need to focus and polish up
on to achieve the automate call?
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Uh? You know, just technique all around. You know, I
think the offensive line is getting better, but you know,
technique and just you know, starting to understand it a
little bit more. You know, a quarterback we got, you know,
both the kids we have you polish up on their
on their fundamentals, their mechanics are throwing the ball, just
(06:48):
polishing up the whole pass game, making sure we're running
the routes the right depth, making sure the quarterbacks are
hitting their back foot and getting the all off on time.
You know. Defensively, I still think, and you know, I
harp on it. We we tip our blitzes too much,
(07:09):
you know. And still we're playing better in the second aarreya,
But I'd like to see us play a little bit
better technique. H So there's plenty of us to get
better at it. But you know the good thing is,
you know we're getting better each week and hopefully, you know,
we'll need it for tonight is how to you know,
play better. We need to get better for this game.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Focus wise, this would seem because I don't know how
much the guys remember from last year. And we'll talk
about Altune in a second, if we could please. But
Altuna gave us away all the game last year, almost
beat us. And so the guys have CD and CDs,
and I know the guys look and they got friends.
We're not so friendly friends at those two schools. Is
(07:50):
this one hard to focus on tonight?
Speaker 2 (07:54):
You know they remember, Plus I remind them every day
this week, so we know we're for a dog fight.
And you know, we can't afford another loss, you know,
so we need to we need to come out and
win the game. Find a way to win the game tonight.
And you know they know that. You know it's a
hard offense, hard defense to go against. You know, we
(08:17):
need to win the game. So they know.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Yeah, and Marty did not mean to skip coming in
the valley that's in there before the two road and CDs.
I mean, because that's that's a local.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
I know that they would focus.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
We have some big games coming up, absolutely, so let's
talk about Alton tonight. What do you see what he
got the quarterbacks going probably thankful for that because he
was a tough kid to tackle.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
But what do you see tonight, Well, you're really he
was a tough kid to tackle. But also I didn't
realize until you know, I forgot about I went back
this week and watched the game last year and their
quarterback number twelve last year, he's a pretty good linebacker.
(08:58):
You know, he blitzed a lot. You know, we should
add a screen tailback screen for a touchdown, and you
know we made a mistake. He blitz and not just
chipping him, and he got right in Stone's face and
so you know it was an incomplete screen. So but
he was a good linebacker. Offensively, they're still running Beer.
(09:22):
Still run that Navy offense with double wing at times,
but they'll get under center of it. You know, the
quarterback is a good runner. He's not as physical, near
as physical as the other kid last year, but he
they run it from the shotgun. They'll run Beer from
the shotgun. He's got some good receivers and he throws
the ball better than the quarterback last year. So they're
(09:43):
throwing the ball more, which makes them even hun for
to defend. So you know, it's it's a challenge for
our defense. And then offensively they switched from a four
may in front to a three stack. Now, fortunately for
(10:04):
us is this is the third week, got four weeks
that we faced it, so hopefully, you know, but they
do a couple of different things. They stunt blitz a lot,
and they do a little bit more in the secondary
with some of the other teams that have done with it.
They're not easy to throw the ball against, especially when
(10:27):
they get you and third along they drove eight people.
It's not easy to throw the football into. So you know,
Plus we have that long bus ride out, you know
what that's like, and so you know we'll have our
hands full tonight. We got to come out and play.
Just a non football question.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Do you guys stop and get pack lunches.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Along the way?
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Are you pack lunch and eat when you get there
or what do you know?
Speaker 2 (10:53):
For a regular season game like this where we were
in school, our guys will get out early. You know,
they'll eat to school lunch. There's a couple of kids
that have last lunch period that you know, we'll write
past us that we wrote passes for to eat earlier.
We're going to have a you know, we'll have our
team rosary at eleven at twelve forty five, and then
(11:17):
we'll do a walk through here before we leave McDevitt.
But we'll be two o'clock we'll be on the road.
And you know, our our parents were great. They feed
our kids before the game. So our parents will have
a bag lunch for the kids to eat on the bus,
and then after the game, I think they have some
pizza coming for the players. Sounds great.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Let's let's put some fun bus ride home, I hope,
So thanks, all right,
