Over all, equippa over there,just a fantastic night for everybody. A
lot of people back, a lotof key players gone, some changes on
the coaching staff. Change always happens. But Bishop McDevitt back with a solid
team, Marty, and certainly ashot to repeat this season. No right,

I mean, it doesn't get betterthan what it was December that Thursday
night at Cumberland Valley for you guys, for Bishop mcdeviott. And yes,
a lot of guys back, somekey personnel that are gone from this mcdeviot
team. But as people were inthe area, no McDevitt, you know,

it usually has an on arsenal thatthey can reload, and they had
been doing that for the last eightor nine months, and so now it's
it's time to play football for BishMcDevitt too, to look and see if
you can repeat as state champions.You think of Saint Joe's Prep out of
Philly. It's getting an old hatwith them, but there's not a lot

of not a lot of repeat SouthernColumbia all those years. So but an
opportunity for bish McDevitt to prove themselves. And it is a brand new season.
And you'll hear. But we're talkingwith the coach Wector. You know
they're gonna have a presentation here ina few minutes with the state championship banner.

And he said to me that he'sgonna tell the kids as soon as

Twenty five was a magical year.Thirty head coach overall coach just a
little bit. We haven't really talkedat Lentz since the championship game. Of
course, we don't have a postgame to talk with it about. Congrats
again, right off the bat,you get to touchdown. I called an

old fashioned I call it a slantwhatever you guys call that to Tyshawn Russell,
and it goes for six, andit was kind of like the like,
well that was easy. You know, a lot of crowd goes to
Stone Saunders. You know, wehad you know, playing on the year
before and then what we saw infilm this year. Anytime we gave them
any type of three by one set, they run the strong safety up and

played a cover three. So that'swhat we're expecting. We actually had what
we called duo, which we gettwo double teams in the run game,
had Rico front side. If thatstrong safety came in on the run,
we're gonna bubble out to him.As soon as I saw them come out,
we lined up. They jumped intoa five three, which means half
the class man, and I turned, I'm about right yell Stone and he's

already making the signal to touch on. And you know in the West Coast,
because a slants more three step,this was a five step, so
on West Coast offense, it's calleda bang, and then the spread office
is called a glance. But youknow we called a banging in ours,
you know off the West coast.Term uh Stone made a great read,

great throw touch on I ran tothe zone and you know it was nice
getting up. Yeah, well,both sides of the ball. But just
I want to talk a little bitabout Riley Robell. I personally don't know
if I saw a guy dominate agame the way he did from you know,
from the defensive side of the ball. He did. I mean he
dominated on offense, but he reallydominated on defense. You know, first

play, they double team and thetwo big kids drug him off the ball
for five yards. We're talking tocrap, which they didn't do the year
before. They were all from chippylast year compared to twenty twenty one.
And Riley told me the Monday afterthe state championship game, the coach I
knew we were gonna rem right there. I'm like why, he said,
because they did that. They gotcocky, And I was like, nice,
see it, Come tell me we'regonna win it, you know,

after the first play of the game. But you know, Riley, Riley
just dominated. I mean, therewere a lot of great players on that
field on both sides last year,but Riley. Riley dominated the best.
Oh what you talked about him sayinghe knew we were gonna win. What
point in the game did you feelyou know, hey, I knew when
we talked before the game. Yeah, he thought he had a great chance
of winning the state championship. Butwhat point in the game you said this

is ours? I really I kindof had that feeling, you know,
in the third quarter. But Iwasn't letting myself some some people like Darren
that I were coming up and hey, congright on, I stop, you
know, because I did in twothousand and ten when we had that Ontown
Central Catholic less than two minutes,two timeouts left than a third and twelve,

I did said my field, allright, we're gonna win this game,
and we ended up losing. SoI was like, get away from
me, get away from me.I had that feeling, but really,
you know, I mean I wasa little worried because they were stacking against
the run. You know, wehad two miss me munications one you know,
where we kind of gave up onthe ball and gave up and pick
six then it's third and long,and you know, we were in a

(08:41):
pattern and our our receiver didn't runthe route deep enough and it looked like
an overthrow. But if he wouldhave been at the depth of he was
supposed to be. So you know, it was key that beginning of the
first or the beginning first drive atthe fourth quarter to be able to run
the ball. We made a fewadjustments. I gave them a little bit
different than they haven't seen. Andthe one thing I think it would helped

is they were worn down a littlebit and they knew that they had to
stop us to even have a shotat the game. And when we you
know, when Mark Quis popped thatbig run and then we end up scoring,
I knew it was over then.Uh that's where I let myself go.
But I started taking the congratulations.But beforehand, as I'd get away
from me and just get away.So let's go more personal family and everything.

What point over the weekend and yousit down with your wife and the
kids and just kind of deep breathand this was this was a good thing.
I mean, it was funny becauseyou know, I think we had
three players that were dressed for thatgame that came into school the next day
and I had a second period ofphysice class. But I came in for

that, and you know, Icame down a little bit before it started.
You know, of course I sawthat durn kidney stone and and uh,
Vince Harper looks at me and goes, were you doing? I gotta
use up for all day. I'mlike, let's you know, Brady moved
out, U I had to goto work. I went to twenty five
years for this. I'm not gonnasit at home all day. I came
up to celebrate with the student body. But you know it was nice over

the weekend, you know that weekend. You know, every time I still
look at that state championship, reallyit gives me chills. But you know,
I really didn't it probably January onceI got that kidney stone out because
it was two weeks after the statetitles till I could get it out.
And it was not a fun Christmas. But you're really sitting back and thinking

(10:31):
about it. But you know,probably after we had the banquet in March,
it was time to you know,I had to tell the guys because
you know, you always hear about, you know, when to win the
super Bowl, you're on the tour. You know, you gotta do somebody
or you win the highs and yougotta go. I realized that, I
mean, we had We went downto It was great. We went down
to the state Capitol, got recognizedby Senate and that's where representatives. We

went to Dulphin County commissioners got recognized. We went to the diocese and had
bunch with the bishop. That wasall nice, but you know it was
kind of I'm trying to move theguys. Hey, you know that was
last year. This is this year. And you know after you know,
tonight, the unveiling of the UState Championship banner, I mean it's over.

I mean, you know, wegot to focus on the game tonight.
We got to focus on this season. And as I told the guys
many of the times, and theyknow this is we're down at the bottom
just like everybody else. We gotto climb the ladder and hopefully get the

Hey, let's jump to twenty fourgood spring. How is the summer as
far as workouts and then the twoweeks of practice. How's everything going.
Obviously we'll get to the offensive linebecause you're replacing five guys, but we'll

get more specific. But overall,we had a good We had a good
spring, and you know, weworked out a couple of times a week
for the college coaches. Now we'dstill have some kids in spring sports,
which is fine. You know,we really wrapped it up in Juna July.
You know, had some newcomers andsome freshmans from guys that came in.
You know, they worked hard.We had a good wed, a

(13:54):
good camp and uh, you knowagain we're just uh, you know,
we can't wait to get started tonight. Okay, So let's just without a
lot, but a little bit.First with the offensive line, since that's
the first focus of me, becauseyou know, you're replacing five starters who
were really co easy last year.Yeah, I mean, this is the

(14:16):
first time as thirty years egg coachwe lose off. I lose all five
of my starting offensive linement, sopunishment if we're winning a state championship,
I mean, you know, andwe have some talent there. I'm excited
about some of the things some ofthe young guys. Did you know it's
a little bit of younger offensive line. Uh, you know, we didn't
get banged up a little bit incamp. You know, we really essentially

(14:39):
in the East scrimmage, were missingthree kids, three of our top six
or seven offensive alignment, including twostarters, so that we projected to be
starters. Uh, you know,going into a camp, you know,
it takes a line so long.I mean, even last year's offensive line,
most of those kids were, youknow, with three or four year

(15:01):
starters. Riley was the only one. It was a two year starter because
it was a full back linebacker untilhe grew into it. But it took
them really their third year of startingto really get cohesive and really understand.
So you know, it takes alittle bit. Unfortunately, the first three
games are really tough, and youknow, we're just you know, we
we we've tried to simplify some thingsa little bit for them, uh you

(15:24):
know, but it's kind of aweird situation because Stone is mentally ready to
do more at the line of scrimmage, but you know, I'll pull back
just a little bit because but it'salso been to help, you know,
in the scrimmage. You you probablysaw, you know, Stone's going up
to the line and he's starting topoint up, you know, changing some
protection schemes by what they're doing,pointing the guys and helping them out.

(15:48):
So it helps there also. Butyou know, it's it's a thing that
you know, we got to bepatient the first couple of weeks. But
you know, we get through thisand I think by midyear, this is
gonna be pretty good fensive line.Okay, you brought something up, there's
gonna ask So in essence, forright now, Stone is gonna cut kind
of be that leader of the offensiveline. Yeah, you know, I'm

(16:10):
hoping, you know, if DallasStevenport is playing right now, you know,
we'll see where he's at in acouple of weeks on the offensive line.
Uh, you know, he's aleader, you know, Letton Blow.
You know, he's kind of gotthat little fire, kind of a
little bit like Riley. He's gota little bit of fire to him.
So we're open he takes that.But right now, you know, Stone's

(16:33):
helping him out a lot with somechecks. Another name to jump out and
Maurice Barnes, you got him backthis year, you know, at that
running back position. How's how's that? I mean good? I mean,
you know, Maurice is gonna havea good year. He's gonna be a
problem for a lot of people.He's big, He's he's bigger, stronger,
a little faster, still learning alittle bit how to you know,
read blocks a little bit where thecut is. But I mean he's gonna

(16:55):
be more than fine, you know, and we're excited to have you.
I know, Cush I sound isexciting having back on defense, so you
know that would be a big help. Also. Yeah, one day I
said, how how are you acoach with Santa feeling about the defense?
I mean it should be strength.I mean really, you know, if
you take some guys that you know, I mean we have eight started back,
but really nine because we played SamSmall's you know a lot last year

(17:25):
in different packages, so it's likehe's a starter. So we really feel
like we got nine starters back andand uh, you know, I think,
you know, right now early inthe season, they might have to
carry us a little bit because ofour young offensive line. But you know,
I expect big things out of thedefense tonight forget to win loss.

(17:45):
It's easy for me to say,more important to see improvement from the scrimmage
and more important just to see howthat young offensive line is going to play,
and just where Stone's at. Where'swhere he's at with his receivers,
which receiving chords great, Yeah,I meant, you know, yeah,

(18:06):
I mean, let's we won't winthe game. Uh, I believe we
will see improvement from the scrimmage.You know, there's some things that Stones
you got to do a little bitbetter also, you know, which we
worked hard on this week on andI have no doubt that it will show
tonight. Uh. You know,the receivers are very talent. I'm really

(18:27):
excited about this receiving group. Uh, you know, but there was some
when we watched films, you know, cutting some rounds, short splits were
a little wrong. The lineup inI'd like to see a little bit more
getting down the field. You know. I showed them Rico as an example.
Rico gets down the field and thatputs a lot of pressure on that
defense. But again, you know, we worked on some new wrinkles involving

(18:52):
the tight ends a little bit more, and you know, so obviously weren't
showing that in a scrimma. Soyou know, our big thing offense Lee
is you know, they got twovery very good defensive ends. A big
kid six four two forty coming offthe edge, he's long, he's got
a University of South Florida off forJames Madison Offer and the other kids pretty

(19:15):
good too. He's about six twotwo forty. So you know, we
got to give a good job andpass by. But there's things that we
can get the running game going tohelp out the offensive line, you know,
the ones we need to try tostay a little bit out of it.
We got into a couple of timesagainst these in the scrimmage and game
situations, some third and longs,because you know, those guys can tee

(19:37):
off and you know, one ofthe advantage we have and we get the
running game is you know, wewe've started two three years ago of running
more play action, especially with pooling, which they now they can't just preen
their ears back and RuSHA pass her. They've got it. So you know,
we got some things that you know, if the end steps down,
you know, we're hooking him untilour backside guard can get to him.

(19:57):
But that looks like running and thatmakes the linebackers move and we'll help us
in the passing game. But youknow in third and ten and third and
fifteen, you can't run that becausenobody's gonna honor on the run. So
you know, we gotta say outof third and walls. But I think
we'll be all right. You know, me in tight ends. When I
first got there Saturday and saw alot of the numbers in the eighties and

a couple of guys were in thethirties and everything, I thought, you
have enough to have a tight endroom. As they like to say.
Now, well, we're excited.Uh you he just joined us. Uh,
we're excited. I mean, I'mexcited about our staff. We made
a few additions. Foreman Devick Gray, who played for me, starting corner
for the NFL Detroit Lions. AaronBarry's back, Uh coaching, we also

have you know, we just auditioned. You know, we gotta you know,
make sure as clearancers are good fortonight, but we gotta we we
got somebody to coach that tight endroom. You know, I was looking
for a tight end coach and kindof fell on you know, kind of
fell to us. Uh, MickeyShuler Junior, former Penn State tight end,

former NFL tight end. So we'reexcited about that. And so yes,
you'll get your wish party. Youknow, if we brought you in,

to stop quarterback and Wadkins from theMountain Joseph Gales put up some good numbers

from the Mount Saint Joseph perspective,they're gonna want to try and get to
Stone Saunders. That's an inexperienced BishMcDevitt offensive line. Marty and Mount Saint
Joseph has any shot. They're gonnaneed to get in there and put some
pressure on Stone in this game,all right. That is the thing that
anybody who knows anything about McDevitt rightnow, that is what the focus is

going to be is the offensive line. They lost five interior offensive lineman last
year, and they had played mostof them had played together two if not
three years, and they'd played togetherand was one of the keys to the
state championship last year. Rob wasat offensive line, protected stain Stone,

Saunders and making room for the runningbacks. Lelnda will kick off for Bish
and McDevitt towards Dairy Street. Hereat Racker Attenzia. Ball has caught at
about the five. They bring itup over the twenty and up to about
the twenty four yard line. It'slike that might have been Womack returning it
for the gals. Gals come outtonight. A lot of white white pants

with a blue stripe on the sideof it, white jerseys with the dark
numbers, and white helmets. Bishopmcdevit with kind of the Georgia Tech look

Rolison down there for the Crusaders becausethat had long return written all over.
It was a line drive kick.It was taking about the eight yard
line, and they will hand thisone off up the middle in a nice
run right up to about the thirtytwo yard line. Believe that was Zion
Williams on the run for the Galsand they get about seven on first down.
Si kept Park comes from the outsidebacker to make the tackle. Nevin

Hopkins also the safety and on thetackle, big pick up a seven for
the Gals. Mentioned the Gills ormore in a should mention or more in

Just to try and recap this onefor you. In the first half,
not a law scoring, Bishop McDevittwas able to go up three ten left
in the first half on a threeyard touchdown paths from Stone Saunders to Opkins.
The extra point was blocked. McDevittled six nothing into half, almost

through a pick six literally at theend of the first half, but fortunately
from mcdevit's a defender tripped up atthe forty yard line. It's mcdevit's up
six. Nothing going in this secondhalf. You're film pretty good about things,
