For the love of animals. We'll discuss as we took
a bite out of history with ingles markets. Henry Berg
served as the diplomat to Russia under Abraham Lincoln's administration
in eighteen sixty three. During his time in Russia, he
witnessed the horrible treatment of working horses. Images that he
couldn't forget brought him to the Royal Society for the
Prevention of Animal Cruelty in London. He learned their mission,
learned their model, and was determined to bring it back

to the USA. Berg's intent was not just to start
the organization on US soil, but to take it to
the next level and create legislation that would allow arrest
and prosecution under the law. Berg fought for his mission
in the New York Legislature, saying he fought on behalf
of quote these mute servants of mankind. He called it
a cause that cross party lines in all class boundaries.
On April tenth, eighteen sixty six, the New York Legislature

passed the charter creating the American Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals the ASPCA. Nine days later, the
first animal cruelty laws in the US were passed by
that New York legislature. Berg's model became the basis for
more than twenty five other human movements across the country
and helped create the New York Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Children. This has been a bite out
