Speaker 1 (00:00):
A new capital. We'll discuss as we take a bite
out of history with Ingles Markets. On May fifteenth, eighteen hundred,
Congress concluded their last meeting of that congressional session. A
couple hours later, President John Adams declared that the federal
government had one month to move from their current home
in Philadelphia to their new home in Washington, d C. Washington,
d C was made up of land donated by Virginia
and Maryland. The land was hand picked by George Washington,

(00:23):
declared an official city in seventeen ninety, and construction began
in seventeen ninety three when George Washington placed the first
cornerstone of the future US Capitol building. As the move
took place from Philadelphia to d C, documents and archives
were transferred by ship through inland waterways. By today's standards,
it may seem like a herculean task, but at the
time there were only one hundred and twenty five federal employees.

(00:43):
Philadelphia was officially closed as the US capital on June eleventh,
eighteen hundred, and the federal government resumed operations in d
C on June fifteenth. The President and Abigail Adams didn't
move into the White House till November due to it
being unfinished. This has been a bite out of history
with Ingles markets
