Speaker 1 (00:00):
An interesting phone call. We'll discuss as we take a
bite out of history with Ingles Markets. On July twentieth,
nineteen sixty nine, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin walked on
the surface of the Moon. Over five hundred million Americans
watched the moon landing live. The broadcast was blocked in
Russia and China, but among the many Americans watching was
President Richard Nixon. John F. Kennedy is credited with deeply

(00:20):
pursuing the space race, but Lyndon Johnson continued the race,
and Nixon was also heavily involved in its funding and
seeing the dream of men walking on the Moon a reality.
It was less than a decade after the famous Kennedy
Moon speech that President Nixon sat in his private office
next to the Oval to view the historic moon landing.
Nixon then moved to the Oval office to make the
historic phone call to the astronants as they walked on

(00:40):
the surface of the Moon. He congratulated them as his
phone was linked via satellite through the NASA Control Center
in Houston, Texas. That night, he wrote in his diary,
the President held an interplanetarium conversation with Apollo eleven. Nixon
went on to be influential in the funding of the
space Shuttle program. This has been a bite out of
history with ingles markets
