bite out of history with ingles markets. In nineteen thirty two,
the Bonus March happened in Washington, d c. Over twenty
thousand unemployed World War One veterans march on the Capitol
demanding payment for bonuses they were promised nearly a decade before.
Fast forward to nineteen forty four, as some soldiers returned
home from service in World War II, President Franklin D.
Roosevelt didn't want to repeat. On June twenty second, nineteen

forty four, Roosevelt signed the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of nineteen
forty four, better known as the GI Bill. The Veterans
Support organization, the American Legion, lobbied Congress and the President
to move forward with helping the vets. The Act gave
veterans unemployment pay, low interest home in business loans, and
most famously, funding for education. It worked with low interest
home loans, a housing boon happened, and business has popped

up in such numbers that many vets found jobs. In fact,
only twenty percent of the money set aside for unemployment
was handed out by nineteen fifty, nearly five hundred thousand
Americans graduated from college compared to one hundred and sixty
thousand nineteen thirty nine. Many vets thanks to the GI Bill.
