Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Blessings in Christ.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
I'm Scott Roberts.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Blessings in Christ is also the Church of Christ preaching
a gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Of
he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. The
Church of Christ is scriptural in name Romans sixteen sixteen,
scriptural and origin, Colossians one eighteen, scriptural and doctrine one,
Timothy four sixteen, and scriptural in practice, James one and

(00:24):
twenty two. Our lesson today is by James Mills from
the Baltimore, Ohio Church of Christ. He's bringing us an
excellent lesson on we are the children of God in
Galatians three and twenty six. For you are all the
children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as

(00:46):
many of you as have been baptized into Christ have
put on Christ. So once again James Mills is bringing
us a lesson on the children of God. And we
are so blessed to be the children of God after
our Obeian the Gospel Plan of Salvation. We hope that
you enjoy the lesson today and please like us on Facebook.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Thank you. I want to start there with verse one
and we'll see that John talks about those that have
obeyed the gospel, how that we are adopted into God's family.
Behold in verse.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
One, John says, one John chapter three, behold what manner
of love? Notice the Father hath bestowed upon us. Now,
John says, Now, look, this is the kind of love that.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
I'm talking about. He said, look at the love that
God has shown us that we should want be called
the sons of God. Therefore the world knows us not
why because it knew him not. Now think about the

(01:59):
love that we have as a child from our parents,
the love that when our parents accept us and are
proud to let people know that this is my child. Well,
John says, it's the same with those who have obeyed
the gospel. This is the love that God has shown us.

(02:23):
He says, God has adopted us as his son. He said,
think of to love, how much love to be called
his son. When we turn over to John chapter fifteen,
we can see how that God explains to us that love,

(02:47):
How that he showed us that love, and he adopted
us as his son. In John chapter fifteen, verse twelve,
beginning this is my commandment, Jesus said that ye love
one what as I have loved you greater love. There's
no greater love hath no man than this, that a

(03:11):
man laid down his life for his friends. Ye are
my friends. If ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth,
I call you not servants, for the servant knows not
what his lord doeth. But I have called you friends.
For all things that I have heard of my father

(03:34):
I have made known unto you. You have not chosen me.
But I have chosen you and ordained you that you
should go and bring forth fruit, that your fruit should remain.
That whatsoever ye shall ask a father in my name,
he may give it to you. These things I command

(03:55):
you that you love one another. If the world hates you,
you you know that it hated me, Notice before it
hated you. So Jesus explains this love, and he says,
greater love, greater love hath no man than a man
laid down his life for you. And you are not

(04:18):
considered a servant. You're not just a person. You are
my child. As John said there in First John, he said,
we are called what the sons of God. That's what
kind of love that God has. We can go through
the Bible and we can find several examples how that

(04:40):
God has adopted us as his child. We are his children.
At Matthew chapter six. Turned with Me and Matthew chapter six,
and we'll start there with verse seven. Jesus speaks to
us and teaching us about pray Matthew chapter six, Verse seven.

(05:02):
But when you pray, use not vain repetitions as that
he the do, where they think that they shall be
heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore likely
to then for your father, notice your father know it's
what things ye have need of before ye ask him.
After this manner, therefore pray. Ye, this is the way

(05:24):
you should pray, Jesus says our Father, which are in heaven,
hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom. Come. Thy will be
done in earth as it is in heaven. Jesus is
that heavenly father. When we pray to him, when we

(05:47):
talk to him as his son, as his daughter, we
reverence him. When we speak to him as father, just
as our earthly parents want, we respect them, we honor them.
Turn over to Romans chapter eight. We'll start there with First,

(06:13):
we'll read Versus Romans chapter eight, fourteen, and fifteen, for
as many as are led by the spirit of God?
What they are? What the sons of God? For ye
have not received the spirit of bondage? Again to fear,

(06:37):
But what ye have received the spirit of adoption? Where
do are we? Cry? What ab I Father? Again? On
over in the book of Galatians, another example, how that
we're considered God's children. He's our father, our heavenly father.

(06:59):
We've been adopted, We've been led through the spirit of adoption.
E Galatians turnover with me to chapter four, verses six
and seven. And because ye are sons, God has sent
forth the spirit of his son into your hearts. Crying,

(07:20):
what abba Father? Wherefore there are no more a servant?
But what are we? We are a son? And if
a son, then what are we? We are an heir
of God through Christ. So when John was talking about

(07:43):
the love that God has gave us, that he has
shown us he has adopted us. What as his child?
And he is our father? And we've been adopted? What
through the spirit? How do we become a child of God?

(08:04):
How are we to become one of those children of God?
The first step is we must receive him as a father.
How many times have you heard the story of those
children that are taken into foster homes and they complain
about there there's no love. But then when there's finally

(08:29):
that one family that connects with them and they show
them that love and they want them and they care
for them, and that child understand that child feels that love.
So what they accept that family, they have nothing but
good things to say about them. Over in the Book

(08:50):
of John, chapter one, beginning with verse six, there was
a man sent from God whose name was John. Sam
came for a witness, to bear witness of the light
that all men through him might believed. He was not
that light, but was sent to bear witness of that

(09:12):
life that was the true life, which lighteth every man
that cometh into the world. He was in the world,
and the world was made by him, and the world
knew him. Not. He came into his own, and his
own received him not, but as many as received him

(09:36):
to them gave he power to what become the signs
of God, even to them that what believe on his name,
which were born not of blood. Notice we're more not
of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor

(10:01):
of the will of man, but walk born of God.
So there's more. When we are to be adopted and
become a child of God. That light was sent into
the whole world, and we can become a son of God?

(10:24):
What if we first believe? And then what did it say?
There's more to it says, we must what be born,
not a flesh, not a man, not of blood, but
what we must be born of God. We must be

(10:47):
the adopted children of God on over. In John chapter three,
Jesus answered in verse three John three, Jesus answered and
said to him, very verily, I said to thee accept,
a man be born again. He cannot see the Kingdom

(11:10):
of God. We can't be the adopted sons of God
if we're not born again. Nicodema said it to him.
How can a man be born when he's old? Can
he enter the second time in his mother's womb and
be born? Jesus answered, very verily, I said to the
accept a man be born of water and of the spirit.

(11:40):
He cannot enter to the Kingdom of God. That which
is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is
born of the spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I
said it to thee. Ye must be born again? How

(12:02):
do we become a child of God? How are we
considered a child of God through believing and being born again.
In Acts chapter two, on the day of Pentecost, Peter

(12:23):
preached to those people, and he preached to do them Jesus.
And he preached to them the how the terrible things
that they had done. And in verse thirty seven of
Acts chapter two, when they heard this, they were pricked
in their heart and said to Peter, to the rest
of the apostles, men and brother, what shall we do?

(12:48):
Peter said it to them, repent and be baptized, every
one of you in the name of Jesus Christ. For
what the remission of sins? We are born again into
God's adopted family. We become a child of God. We

(13:13):
are called the sons of God. But we must be
born again. And what is that born again? Consist of
water and the spirit. Peterson, Repent and be baptized, every

(13:33):
one of you in the name of Jesus Christ. We're
born again into the family. Did he say to show
your faith or to show your good works? Was that
what the baptism was for? No, he says, it's for
the remission of sins. And you shall receive the gift

(13:57):
of the Holy Ghost. You're the promise. Notice here's that
promise is unto you and to your children, and to
all that are far off, even as many as the
Lord our God shall call. And in verse twenty one,
then they that gladly received his word word baptized, and

(14:22):
the same day what they were added about three thousand souls.
They chose to be a part of God's family. In
the Book of Galatians, Chapter three, verse twenty six, beginning,

(14:46):
for ye are all the children of God by faith
in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have
been baptized into Christ, what we have put on Christ,
we all become the children of God. Once we've been

(15:09):
baptized into Christ, we put Christ on. There's neither June
nor Greek. There's neither bond nor free. There's neither male
nor female. For ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
If you be Christ, don oury Abraham. See that airs

(15:32):
according to the promise, we become one of God's children.
We're special. We have a heavenly Father that loves each
and every one of us, adopted us as his all.

(15:55):
Back over in first John where we started that chapter three,
so John said, behold, what matter of love the Father
has to bestowed upon us that we should be called
the sons of God. Therefore the world knows it's not
because what it knew him not first to be loved.

(16:23):
Now are we the sons of God? Once we've obeyed
the gospel, been born again, we become a child of God.
Now are we the sons of God? He says. And
it does not yet appear what we shall be. But
we know that when he shall appear, what we shall

(16:47):
be like him, For we shall see him what as
he is. John said, you know what you are now,
once you've been born again and you've go obade the gospel.
You're a child of God. You're one of his children.

(17:08):
And we know that's what we are now. But he said,
guess what. There's gonna be a time come, and we
don't know what we're gonna be. We don't know what
we're gonna be, he said, but I can tell you
this right now. Think about this. When we see him,

(17:28):
when he appears before you, we what will be like
In Luke Chapter twenty four. Luke Chapter twenty four, I
want to start there with verse one, and I want

(17:52):
to read down from verse one, and we want to
go on down to verse seven. Now Part of the
first day of the week. Notice, very early in the
morning they came into the sepulcher, bringing the spices which
they have prepared in certain others with them, and they

(18:14):
found the storm run away from the suppulcher. They entered
in and found not the body of the Lord Jesus
came to pass. As they were much perplexed. Thereabout behold,
two men stood by them in shining garments. As they

(18:36):
were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth.
They said it to them, why seek ye notice the
living among the dead? He is not here. But what
he is Riza? Remember, yeah, he expected to you when

(19:01):
he was yet in Galilee, saying the son of Man
must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and
be crucified. And what the third day? Rise again? So John,
when he was talking about us being the sons of God,

(19:22):
and we know that's what we are now, he said,
But let me tell you what he says. Let me
tell you. We don't know what we're gonna be, but
I can tell you right now we will rise again.
We will be like him all over same chapter, verse

(19:47):
thirty six, Luke twenty four. And as they thus spake
Jesus himself study in the midst of them, and said
that to them, peace be into you. But they were terrified.
Friday suppose that they had seen a spirit. What did

(20:08):
Jesus tell them? In verse thirty eight, he said it
to them, why are ye troubled? Why do thoughts arise
in your hearts? I say that to you this morning
as one of God's children, one that's been born again,
adopted into God's family? Why are you troubled at the

(20:34):
thought of die? What bothers you? Knowing it? Just as
Christ rose resurrected from the dead? What did John say?
We what will be like him? And he said to them,

(20:56):
why are you troubled? Why did thoughts arise in your heart? Behold?
Notice my hands and my feet That it is I myself.
Jesus said, this is me, Yes, I have risen from
the dead. Handle me and see for a spirit hath

(21:21):
not flesh and bones as you see me have. And
when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands
and his feet. While they yet believed, not for joy
and wondered, he said to them, have you hear any meat?
They gave him a piece of rold fish honey comb,
and he took it, did eat before them, and he

(21:42):
said to them, these are the words which I'll speaking
to you while I was yet with you, that all
things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law
of Moses and in the prophets, and in soft concerning me.

(22:03):
Then opened he either, understanding that they might understand the scriptures.
It's important, brothers and sisters, that we understand what John
was talking about. He said to them, thus it is written,
and thus it is behold Christ to suffer and to
rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance

(22:26):
and remission of sins should be preached in his name
among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses
all these things. And behold, I send the promise of
my father upon you. Tell ye in the city of Jerusalem,
and tell ye be endued with power from on high.

(22:51):
He led them out as far as to Bethany, and
he lifted up his hands and blessed them. And it
came to pass while he blessed them, and what he
was parted from them and carried where carried up into heaven.
The worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

(23:14):
and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
So when John talked about he said, we are God's children.
We've been adopted, and we know who we are, and
we know that we've got a heavenly father that loves us.

(23:35):
And guess what we will be like him? Christ died,
he was crucified, he was buried, and he rose again.
And then what he was received he entered. What into
heaven we'll be like him? We'll be like him? Christ

(24:02):
came in Matthew chapter one, Matthew one twenty one. And
she shall bring forth they son. Notice this was his purpose.
Thou shalt call his name what Jesus, for he shall
say what his people from their sins over in Hebrews

(24:36):
chapter nine, beginning with verse twenty two. And almost all
things are by the law purged with blood, and without
shedding of blood is no remission. It was therefore necessary

(24:57):
that the patterns of things in the heaven should be
purified with these, But the heavenly things themselves with better
sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the
holy places made with hands, which are the figures of
the true. But where into heaven itself now to appear

(25:22):
in where the presence of God for us, Nor yet
that he should offer himself often as the High priest
enters into the Holy Place every year, with the blood
of others for them. Must he often have suffered since
the foundation of the world. But now once, in the

(25:42):
end of the world, hath he appeared to put away
sin by what the sacrifice of himself? And as it
is appointed that to men wants to die Verse twenty seven,
it is an appointment to man to die. But after

(26:07):
this what the judgment? So Christ was once offered to
bear the sins of many, and to them that look
for him, shall he appear the second time without sin
unto salvation. So this earthly body, brothers and sisters, as

(26:33):
one of God's children, We're gonna face death. We're gonna
face death, just as those that went on before us.
But just as Christ was risen again, he was received
up into heaven. We're gonna be judged. We'll be like

(26:56):
him when this world comes to an end as one
of his children. Corinthians, Chapter fifteen, First Corinthians, First Corinthians,
Chapter fifteen, beginning with verse forty two. So also is

(27:21):
the resurrection of the dead. Notice it is sown in corruption,
it is raised what in in corruption, it is sown
in dishonor it is raised what in glory? It is

(27:43):
sown in weakness, but it is raised in power. It
is sown a natural body, but it has raised a
spiritual body. There's a natural body, there's a spiritual body.
So that is written. The first man, Adam was made
a living soul. Last Adam was what made a quickening spirit.

(28:12):
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that
which is natural. And afterward what that which is spiritual.
So John said, we know what we are now what
we're earthly. But he said, we don't know what we
will be, but we will be like him. But what

(28:33):
is that gonna be. That's gonna be a spiritual body,
that's gonna be raised in power, that's gonna be raised
in gary, that's gonna be raised in honor. Verse forty nine.
And as we have borne the image of the earth,

(28:55):
we shall also bear the what the image of the
well have a heavenly body. Now this I say, brethren,
that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God.
Neither does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I show you a mystery.

(29:17):
We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be
changed in a moment, in the tweaking of an eye
at the last trump For the trumpet shall sound, and
the dead shall be rased incorruptible, And what we shall
be changed, for this corruptible must put on incorruption, and

(29:43):
this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible
shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have
put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the
same day's written death is swallowed up in victory. Oh, death,
wear is thy sting. O grave wears thy victor. The

(30:04):
sting of death is sand. The
