(00:00):
Welcome to Blessings in Christ. I'mScott Roberts. Blessings in Christ is also
the Church or Christ preaching the Gospelof where Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Of he that believeth and is baptizedshall be saved. The Church of Christ
is Scripture a name, Roman sixteensixteen, Scripture and Origin Colossians one eighteen,
Scripture and Doctrine, First Timothy foursixteen, and Scripture and practice James
(00:25):
one and twenty two. Our lessontoday's by James Mills from the Baltimore,
Ohio Church or Christ. He's bringingus a lesson of how much is Jesus
in your life? Once again, how much is Jesus in your life?
We hope that you enjoy the lessonand please like us on Facebook. Thank
(00:46):
you this morning. If you wouldyou could get your Bibles and follow along
with us as we go through thesermon. It's good to see everyone again.
We thank God as a mansion earlierwill allowing us to be here this
morning. I want to start outby asking a question, and I want
to know this morning is how muchof Jesus do you have in your life?
(01:12):
And as I look out, Ican see all those brains, you
know, turning, and you're justtrying to figure out how to answer this
question. But what I want toknow is how much Jesus do you have
in your life? So we gotto be careful of how we answer this
(01:33):
right, because when we think aboutjust how much, how do you weigh
how much Jesus is in your life? Right? So someone might say your
answer maybe, well, I've gota lot of Jesus in my life.
Right. Oh, I've got awhole lot of Jesus in my life.
But is that enough to make Godhappy? Right? Is that enough for
(01:57):
God to see your way into heaven? So you may answer that question,
which, well, I got alot of Jesus, but is that enough
for God? And then someone mightsay, well, I've got all the
Jesus. I've got all the Jesusthat I can handle him my life.
And you better be careful with thatanswer because God may sit as we are
(02:23):
content and we are satisfied with ourfaith, and there's not any room for
growth. Right, If you've gotall the Jesus you could possibly have,
there's no room for growth. There'sno room for more Jesus in your life.
So we got to be careful ifwe answer that way. In the
third way that we may answer thisis that we don't have enough Jesus in
(02:46):
our life, right, And noneof us want to answer that. You
know who wants to get the answer, Oh, I don't have enough Jesus,
right, because we know that God'snot going to be pleased with us,
and other people around us are goingto say, well, they don't
have enough Jesus in their life.Unfortunately, we never think about how much
(03:07):
Jesus we have, right, becausein the world that we live in us
as humans, men and women, how much Jesus in our life is the
last thing, right. Unfortunately, that's the last thing that we worry about,
because why we're always worrying about whatother things we have? How much
(03:32):
of this do I have? Howmuch of that do I have? And
we don't think about how much Jesusis in our life, but we worry
about how much what time? Right, Everyone says, well, I need
more time. We never have enoughtime to do the things we want to
(03:52):
get done. We never have enoughtime for this, never have enough time
for that. So we always wantmore time, right, more, I
don't need more time? And thenmoney? Right? We always want more
money, and we worry about dowe have enough money, do we have
enough money to pay bill? Dowe have enough money to buy the things
(04:12):
that we want to buy? Dowe have enough money to keep us satisfied?
So we always want more money, more time, more money, and
we always want more energy. Rightif we have a job that we work
every day, or maybe our jobis at home and maybe we take care
of a garden, maybe we takecare of the house, you know,
(04:35):
mowing the grass, cutting the weeds, doing your chores, or maybe we're
steal out in public, doing apublic job, and we always need more
energy. Right, Oh, Ijust can't get I don't have enough energy
to get this done. So welook for more energy. I need more
energy, more time, more money, more energy. Or maybe maybe you're
(04:59):
trying to a diet, or there'ssomething that you're really focused on, right,
and you're like, I need more. I need more motivation. I
need more of motivation to get thisdone. I need motivation to make sure
this happens. I want to succeedmore and more and more and more and
more. But do we ever askhow much Jesus? Do you ever ask
(05:26):
for more Jesus in your life. This morning, we want to talk about
how we can want more of Jesusand less of ourselves, because unfortunately,
as I mention, in this world, we are all guilty of it.
We're always looking for more of otherthings, but never more of Jesus.
(05:54):
We want to know how we canfind more of Jesus, and how we
can train our bodies in our mindsto always look for more Jesus, look
for more Jesus in our life, myself included. And the reason I bring
this lesson to you that I failon myself trying to split the difference.
(06:20):
Right, split the difference. Iwant half of my life to be about
me, and now I want theother half to be about Jesus. Right.
And we can all see that thishappens. And we want we want
to put Jesus in some things, but we want to put ourselves before Jesus
(06:42):
and other things. As I mentioned, we want more things for ourselves,
and we put ourselves first, andthen we put Jesus while on the back
burger. Right. So, myselfguilty of this. I find that the
more that I think about things isthat I want, the more that I
want more of this and more ofthat. I want less of Jesus,
(07:06):
right, because if we want moreof other things, we're not thinking about
more of Jesus, more about Jesus. What I know, as we say
quite often. So the problem isis we try to serve ourselves and we
(07:27):
try to serve Jesus as well. But Jesus said, that's not what I
want. Jesus said, I'm notin this for a partnership. I want
to be your all. If youturn over to Matthew chapter six. Matthew
Chapter six and verse twenty four,Jesus says, no man, notice,
(07:50):
no man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and
love the other, or else hewill hold to the one and what despies
the other. Ye cannot serve whatGod and mammon, What is mammon,
(08:13):
earthly wealth, earthly wealth, thethings of this world, earthly treasures,
in other words, anything that isnot to do with Jesus. And Jesus
said, I can't have that.Wait a minute, No, you think
you can serve yourself and serve me. No, Jesus says, this is
(08:37):
not a partnership. I am tobe the only one. I am to
be the one, the one andonly. No man can serve two masters,
he said, And a lot oftimes we just think that's what satan.
It's the things of this world, mammon, earthly wealth, anything that
(08:58):
has to do with what self self. So when we find putting ourselves first,
then we start to forget about Jesus. We don't want more of Jesus,
we want more of things for ourselves. Matthew chapter sixteen. Jesus said,
in Matthew chapter sixteen, let's godown to verse twenty four. Then
(09:24):
said Jesus unto his disciples, ifany man will come after me, what,
let him deny himself and take uphis cross and follow me. For
whoserver will save his life shall loseit, and whoserver will lose his life
for my sake, shall find it. If any man will come after me,
(09:50):
what he say, let him denyhimself, so self can't be anywhere
in there. Right, we gottado deny ourselves rather than try to look
for more of this, more ofthat, Jesus said, huh, No,
more about me, he said,It's all about me. Jesus said,
(10:15):
we must deny ourself. But inthis world that we live is what
does the world teach us? Love? Yourself. Right, We are taught
to love ourselves. I teach mykids that, you know. I teach
my kids that if you can't loveyourself, you can't love others. Jesus
said to deny yourself, and whathe says, follow me. If you
(10:43):
want to follow me, you're gonnahave to deny yourself, take up the
cross and walt follow after me.But the world teaches us eight you need
to love yourself. And that's whyyou say everyone going around taking selfies right
self love, love yourself. ButJesus said, if you want to follow
(11:07):
me, if you want more ofme, you're gonna have to deny yourself,
pick up that cross and follow me. How do we get more of
Jesus? How much Jesus do youhave in your life? Do you have
enough? Do you have all ofJesus? Or do you just have some
(11:31):
Jesus enough that you think will getyou By John chapter three, verse thirty.
John the Baptists made it very clearin John chapter three of verse thirty,
as he was a forerunner for Christ, he was preparing the way and
John three and verse thirty he saidhe must increase. But what he says,
(11:58):
I must decrease. More Jesus andless of ourselves. He must increase,
but I must decrease. He thatcometh verse thirty one. From above
is above all. He that isall the earth is earthly, and speaketh
out the earth, He that comethfrom heaven. What is above all?
(12:24):
More about Jesus. More Jesus inour lives. If we expect to have
more Jesus in our life, we'regoing to have to change the way we
think about things. Right, We'regoing to have to be less concerned about
what others think about us. Howmany of us worry about what people see
(12:46):
what people think about us? Right, that's our mindset as we're worried about
Well, I don't want to soI wonder what someone so thinks about me,
you know, the way I look, the way I'm dressed. Less
about what people think about you,and more about what people see in you.
(13:11):
In Matthew Chapter five, verse sixteen, let your light so shine before
men that they may see your goodworks? And what will this cause them
to do? It says, ain'tglorified your father, which is in heaven.
(13:35):
Focus less on what people think aboutyou and more about if people see
Jesus in your life that's the mindset. More Jesus and less of you.
More Jesus and less of you.Let your light shine, why so people
(13:58):
will see Jesus in you. Let'sfocus on what you deserve and more about
what you old Christ Roman's chapter eightRomans, Chapter eight in verse twelve.
We need to realize that we aredebtors, debtors to Christ. Most of
(14:22):
us worry about what Christ owes us. Romans Chapter eight in verse twelve tells
us that we are debtors. Therefore, brother, and we are debtors.
Not to the flesh, to liveafter the flesh. For if ye live
after the flesh, ye shall die. But if ye through the spirit do
(14:45):
mortify the deeds of the body, what ye shall live. For as many
as are led by the spirit ofGod, they are the sons of God.
We've got to change our thinking, change the way we think about things.
Realize that we are debtors to cryfor what He has done for us.
(15:09):
More focus on Jesus. Let's focuson ourselves. Less focus on more
time. Let's focus on more money. Let's focus on more energy to get
things done. Let's focus on whatpeople think about us. More focus on
if people see Jesus in our life. Do we want more of Jesus.
(15:41):
Let's talk about a few things thatwe can add to our life this morning,
things that we can add to ourlife that were, without a doubt,
help us get more Jesus in ourlife. And if we practice these
things that we're going to talk about, and we put them to use,
(16:04):
then it will automatically train our bodyto where we will get more of Jesus.
There will be no doubt that wecan get more Jesus in our life
if we just practice these things thatwe're going to talk about. The first
thing is we need to find ourworth in Christ right now. Too many
(16:30):
of us are worried about what weare worth here on this earth. Me
me, me, me, meright. How much education do you have?
You know, I've got a highschool diploma, But too many people
are They think just because they've gotmore education that they're worth more. Right,
(16:51):
Oh, I'm smarter than you.You know, I've got a college
degree. You know, some peopledon't have a high school diploma. Some
of the smartest people I know. But we are worried about trying to put
a worth on ourselves through worldly things. How much education do you have.
(17:12):
What about at your job? Youknow, are you the boss? Does
that make you worth more? Doyou think you're better because you're a boss.
Maybe you're a manager. You know, you're a manager of a department.
Does that make you worth more?Does that make you feel good about
yourself? You know? Maybe youown a small business, you're a business
(17:37):
owner. Does that make you worthmore? What about the size of your
house? How big is your house? Are you better than others because you've
got a bigger house, or you'vegot a newer car. Oh, my
car is newer than there's. Theircar's a piece of job. You know,
I'm better than them. Not focusingon what we are worth, but
(18:02):
what we are worth as a childof God mar Jesus, mar Jesus in
our life. Turn over to PhilippiansPhilippians, chapter three of verse eighty,
(18:25):
Ye, doubtless, and I countall things but loss for the excellence of
the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom what I have suffered,
Paul said. Paul said, Icount all things but loss for the excellence
of the knowledge of Christ, Jesusmy Lord, for whom I have suffered
(18:51):
the loss of all things. Andhe says and do count them. But
done that, what I may weanChrist nor Jesus. Paul said, none
of this stuff matters to me.I count it all a loss, he
(19:11):
said, because what he said,I have the knowledge of Christ, the
knowledge of Christ. None of thisstuff should matter to us. Not our
size of our house, how niceof an automobile we have, how much
(19:32):
money we have, what kind ofjob we have. None of it means
anything if we don't have Christ, more Jesus in our life, and less
of me more of Jesus. Paulsaid, all of this I count it
is a loss. He said,None of it means anything to me.
(19:56):
Change our mindset and your mindset.Less about what we are worth, and
what more about what we are worthin Christ. Think about in eternal home
when this life is done with you. Think about what heaven's going to be
(20:18):
about. All of this here onthis earth is all but lost. It's
worth nothing if we don't have moreof Jesus again. We need to be
committed, committed to do the Father'swill. Remember when Jesus, if you
(20:41):
turn over to Luke, remember whenJesus was about to be led away,
he was about to be crucified. And what did Jesus say. Jesus said
there in Look chapter twenty two, turn over, if you would diverse forty
two, Jesus said, Father,if thou'll be willing, notice, if
(21:10):
thou'll be willing, remove this cupfrom me? Nevertheless, not my will,
he said. But why he saidabout thine be done, knowing that
he was about to be crucified, knowing that he was about to be put
(21:30):
to death, knowing what he wasabout to suffer and go through. And
you know what, Jesus said,Father, if it's your will, consider
it done. What's your mind said? What is in your mind as your
(21:52):
mind set to do the Father's will, No matter what that is, no
matter what it takes, You're gonnado the Father's will. Commitment. We've
got to be committed as Christians todo whatever God commands us in his word
(22:12):
commitment Galatians chapter two. Galatians chaptertwo and verse twenty And speaking to those
that Galatia, Paul said, Iam crucified. Notice pause that I am
(22:33):
crucified with Christ. Nevertheless, onehe said, I live yet not I
but what Christ liveth in me andthe life which I now live in the
flesh I live by the faith ofthe Son of God who loved me and
(22:56):
gave himself for me. Paul said, this life that I live is for
Christ. He said, wife thatcaused Christ loved me and he died on
that cross. And he said,I am committed committed to do his will.
(23:19):
I am crucified with him. Areyou crucified with Christ this morning?
Are you dead to sin? Andare you living committed to do the Father's
will? If not, you needmore of Jesus, more of Jesus in
your life. Commitment, commitment.God will tell you what you need to
(23:48):
do. Let God answer your questionsfor you. You know, you saw
there was a point in time whereeveryone went around with these bracelets, you
know, w w JD, wjD everywhere. You saw it on billboard,
you saw them cars. You don'tsay so much anymore? Right,
short lived? What would Jesus do? Right? What would Jesus? And
(24:14):
this was supposed to help you dothe right thing? This would remind me
to do the right thing. Commitment. Are you committed for more Jesus?
Are you committed for more Jesus? Are you committed for a other thing?
More? I want more of otherthings? Are you committed to more?
(24:36):
Things of this world? Mammon, are you committed for more? Jesus?
Do the Father's will? What wouldJesus do? Right? What would Jesus
do? Ask carselves any situation, what would Jesus do? Is this what
(24:56):
the Father's will is? And ifwe train ourselves, train our minds,
then we will get more of Jesusautomatically. Automatically, you will find in
following these steps we're gonna talk aboutthis morning, you will find it is
(25:17):
easy easy, you will want moreof Jesus. It's just like eating a
box of chocolate, right, ora bag of potato chips. I'm the
worst, you know, and youtake one chip, you know, and
then ah, another chip. You'relike, oh god, I have another
(25:38):
one, and another one, youknow, and then before you know what,
the whole bag's gone. The wholebag is gone. Why because it
was so good? And then whenthey're all gone and you're like, oh
what did I do? I justtake this hope bag? And then you're
out and you're like, oh,I need more. Go to the store.
(26:00):
I got gonna get another bag ofthose. You know. If you
train your mind and you train yourself, then you will automatically want more of
Jesus. You know it'll make yousmile, It'll put a smile on your
face. Be like, well,I can't believe I can't get enough of
Jesus. You will not be ableto get enough of Jesus. That's all
(26:22):
you want. Why If it causednothing else, nothing else will matter.
And that was the problem when Iwas putting this lesson together that I realized
in my life, even though I'mliving the life of the Christian, you
(26:44):
know, it's still not good enough. You know it's not good enough.
Why because Jesus said, Jesus said, it's not good It doesn't matter no
matter how much you have of me, it's not enough, he said,
Because he said, you've got tohave all of me, and Lord want
more, Lord Jesus. Train ourselvesand we won't get automatically more of Jesus.
(27:15):
Fill up on his thoughts and notour own thoughts. Right, the
thoughts of this world. How manyof us think too much about the things
of this world. I was guiltyof this back during the election. Right,
I found myself I can't get enoughof this truck. You know,
(27:37):
I wanted to watch it on TV, listen to it on the radio,
and then when he get one presidentimpeachment, you know, and I couldn't
get enough of it. I'm like, oh, I want to see the
whole wonder what they're gonna do today. You know, I'm setting around and
now I want to watch. Youknow, I get home from work and
they're they're replaying you know, ohwhat happened that day. I want to
(28:00):
watch it. When I'm in mytruck at work. You know, I've
got the radio on. I wantto listen to this stuff. You know,
wasted, wasted all that time, all that energy, because well I
wanted more of that worldly stuff, more of those things of this world,
(28:26):
when I should have been wanting moreof you. How much time did I
give away of God His time?I wasted his time, wasted his time
over things of this world that didn'tmatter, as Grandma said, didn't mount
(28:47):
to a hill of beans, right, it didn't mount to a hill of
beans. Wasted all that time andenergy should have been putting it to God
more Jesus in my life. InRoma's Chapter twelve, Roma's Chapter twelve and
verse two, train ourselves. We'vegot to train our bodies, train our
(29:11):
minds, and will automatically get moreJesus Roma's chapter twelve and verse two.
And be not conformed to this world. But what be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that yemay prove what is that good and acceptable
(29:37):
and perfect will of God. Weneed to realize, we need to realize
that all these things of this worldwasteful, wasteful, conforming to your time with
