twenty two. Our lesson today isby Joey Fox from the South Side Congregation
of the Church of Christ and Batyville, Kentucky. He's bringing us a lesson
on the New Covenant, the NewTestament that we now live under. We
don't live according to the Old Testament, but we live according to the New
(00:45):
Testament, the New Covenant. Whenyou read in Joel chapter two, in
verse twenty eight, it shall cometo pass afterward that I will pour out
my spirit upon all flesh. Yoursons and daughters shall prophesy, your old
men shall dream dreams, your youngmen shall see visions, and also upon
the servants and upon the handmaids. In those days, I will pour out
(01:08):
my spirit once again Our lesson isThe New Covenant by Joey Fox from Ladyville,
Kentucky. We hope that you enjoya lesson today and please like us
on Facebook. Thank you. Ohjeez, I say that's he's okay when
(02:07):
way is not? Where the namelast name and a name y got said,
let's get he not be game?He is? It s my dream
(02:37):
when my real I know my saydo geez, last game? When here
is something John storm, when there'sa really long the nine long, it's
(03:19):
on. If sus is my whenthe long nine I say the g sauscap
when you say good bye song meand the same break in in the end
(04:05):
is not. If you have yourBibles with you this morn, would it
(04:28):
you return to Jeremiah, chapter thirtyone, in verse thirty one thirty thirty
four says, behold, the day'sthe day's come. Saith the Lord that
I will make a new covenant withthe House of Israel and with the House
of Judah. Now according to thecovenant that I made with their not according
(04:53):
to the covenant that I made withtheir fathers in the day that I took
them by the hand to bring themout of the land of Egypt, which
my covenant they break, although Iwas an husband unto them, saith the
Lord. But this shall be thecovenant that I will make with the House
(05:15):
of Israel after those days, Saiththe Lord. I will put my law
in their inward parts and write itin their hearts, and will be their
God. And they shall be mypeople. And they shall teach know more
every man his neighbor, and everyman his brother, saying, know the
(05:36):
Lord, for they shall all knowMe. From the least of them,
unto the greatest of them, saiththe Lord. I will forgive their iniquity,
and I will remember their sin nomore. Here we see the prophecy
of the New Covenant, the NewTestament, being set forth by Jeremiah speaking
(06:01):
here that what the Lord was intendingto do. And we know that in
that time that when Jesus came, everybody knows him. Today his name is
a name above all, and everybodyknows who Jesus is. That what he
(06:21):
did for his people his covenant. You know. And this is not necessarily
new, but you might title thislesson a few new things. There's a
lot of people that don't know thatthere is such a thing as a new
Covenant. They intend to go backand believe what the Old Covenant says and
(06:46):
the things that are required under theOld Testament. But that's not true for
us. In Romans chapter fifteen andverse four, it says for whatso every
things were written afore time. We'rewritten for our learning, that we,
through patients and comfort of the scripture, might have hope. We are looking
for that blessed hope. We werelooking for that blessed hope and appearing of
(07:10):
our Lord, and say Jesus Christ. And he came and suffered, and
you know he did the Father's will. He didn't do his own will.
He went into the garden of guesseimonethere and he prayed three times, Father,
if it be thy will, letthis cup pass from me, but
yet not my will, but thouwill be done. And he did it.
(07:32):
He did exactly what the Father askedhim to do. Now that's no
new thing. But a lot ofpeople don't see that. They see that
as no, that's not to us, but it is to us. He
did this for us. In Colossianschapter two and verse thirteen through fifty instance,
and you being dead in your sinsand the uncircumcision of your flesh.
(07:58):
Hath he quickened again, heather withhim, having forgiven you all trespasses,
botting out the handwriting of ordinances thatwas against us, which was controlled to
us, and took it out ofthe way, mending it to his cross,
and having spoiled principalities and powers,he made a show of them,
(08:24):
openly triumphing over them in it.You know, if you go back and
you read there, they were soafraid even after his death. They put
watchmen at his grave, put himthere, thinking that rolling that stone and
stealing the grave, that he wouldn'tcome forward, that somebody. They didn't
(08:45):
want somebody to know that they'd stolehis body away, that they might steal
his body away. But yet ithappened just the way that he said it
would. Those men become as deadmen, and yet he come forward,
and there he was seen of hisdisciples, and of Mary Magdalene and many
others after, and they all testifiedof it. And those were things that
(09:09):
were told aforetime that was going tohappen. People will see that today and
they think that's a new thing,But it's not. Friends, It's happened
just like he said it would.Happen some other things that we talk about
this morning. In Hebrews eight andverse seven through about verse thirteen, it
says, for if if that firstcovenant had been faultless, then should no
(09:35):
place have been sought for the second, for finding fault with them, he
saith. Behold the days come,Saith the Lord, when I will make
a new covenant with the House ofVigil and with the House of Judah.
Not according to the covenant that Imade with their fathers in the day when
I took them by the head tolead them out of the land of Egypt.
(09:58):
Because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not,
Saith the Lord. For this isthe covenant that I will make with the
House of Israel. After those days, Saith the Lord, I will put
my laws into their mind and writethem in their hearts. And I will
be to them a God, andthey shall be to me a people.
(10:22):
And they shall not teach every manhis neighbor and every man his brother,
saying no, the Lord, forall shall know me, from the least
to the greatest. For I willbe merciful to their unrightness and their sins,
and their iniquities will I remember nomore in that he saith a new
Covenant. He hath made the firstold, and that which decath and wax
(10:46):
hold is ready, is ready tovanish away. It did when he got
when he went to the cross,it vanished away. He said, it's
finished. The work that the Fatherhad sent him to do. He was
finished, and the New Covenant comeinto existence. You know. But those
people you go back there and youread in the Old Testament, they had
(11:09):
every chance in the world to beGod's chosen people, and they just wouldn't
do it. They're no different thanpeople today that read the New Testament and
will not do it. They didread it and don't believe what it says
that God told them these things willcome to past. You know. I
(11:30):
have been reading in Deuteronomy, andthe guy on the radio this morning,
he said that Deuteronomy was a secondgiven of the King Commandments. It wasn't
a new version, no, itwas just him reiterating what the King Commandments
said. When you go there andyou read, I think it's chapter twenty
(11:50):
eight that I'm in, and hesays, if they do his laws exactly
as he laid them out, theseare the blessings that you'll get. But
then it gets about halfway in thechapter and he turns and he says,
those that will not do are cursed, and he gives every one of the
(12:11):
cursings that he would give. Andto him they happen, friends, just
the way he told you that theywould happen. They wouldcome a people that
didn't understand what God had given untohim. That's the thing that we need
to take to heart today. He'sgiven us our law. He's given us
this new Testament that we can readand understand and follow. We need to
(12:35):
be doing that today. And actsthe second chapter, in verse thirty eight
through forty, it says, thenPeter said, unto them, repent and
be baptized, every one of youin the name of Jesus Christ, for
the remission of sins, and heshall receive the gift of Holy Goost for
this. The promise is unto youand to your children, and to all
(12:58):
them that are afar off is,even as many as the Lord our God
shall call. With many other words, did he testify and exhort, saying,
save yourselves from this untoward generation. That's what he's asking us all to
do. Save ourselves from this untowardgeneration. Just simply they asked, what
(13:20):
shall we do? Well, hetold them repent and be baptized. But
you know, there's a world ofpeople out there today that don't believe that
we should be baptized, That there'sno salvation in baptism. That all y'all
you gotta do is believe and receive. Yes, you got to believe and
(13:41):
receive it. But then you've gotto receive what it says to do.
And it says that in order tohave salvation we must be baptized, we
must do the things that God askedus to do. That's not a new
thing, but many people think thatit is. And Hebrews Canniverse one through
(14:01):
Ford says, for the law havinga shadow of good things to come,
and not the very image of thethings can never with those sacrifices which they
offered year by year, continually makethe combers therein too perfect. For then
would they not have ceased to beoffered, because that the worshipers, once
(14:26):
purged, should have had no conscienceof sins. But in those sacrifices there
is a remembrance again made of sinsevery year. For it is not possible
that the blood of bulls and goatsshould take away sin. God was the
(14:46):
perfect Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. There is a no more remembrance. You
know, if we truly repent,he truly forgives. He blots that out.
We talk about that, and brotherJohnson, when he prays, if
we truly repent, he truly forgiveus, but he blots that out.
(15:07):
It's remember no more. These people. Every time the year rolled around,
they had to do it all overagain, and there was a remembrance of
those things because what they were sacrificingagain for the same sins and the sins
that they had done in the year. I can't believe that people just can't
(15:28):
see that clear image of what Godhas in store for us. And then
he says in Hebrews five and verseeight and nine, it says, though
he were a son, yet learnedhe obedience by the things which he suffered,
and being made perfect, he becomethe author of eternal salvation. And
(15:52):
all of them that obey him,he obeyed. He did what the Father
asked him to do, just likewe've been talking about this more. And
he learned obits by the things whichhe suffered. And you know, I've
been reading a book. It's calledKilling Jesus. It's Bill O'Reilly wrote a
(16:15):
bunch of different books about different figures, and I've been reading this one about
Jesus and the time of Jesus. That you know, people think that he
just come and did a little bit. The books themselves can't even contain the
things that God did that Jesus didwhile he was here on the servant and
(16:40):
the miraculous things that he did.He raised the dead, he healed those
that couldn't hear, he healed thosethat were blind. And all the time
they were worried about themselves, theywere worried about whether they was going to
be empowered. He was going totake their power. He never come here
to make an earthly kingdom, no, friends, He come to establish our
(17:06):
covenant, this new covenant that wehave today. That's new to a lot
of people, but it shouldn't benew to us. In Chong chapter three,
in verse one through three, itsays there was a man of the
Pharisees named Nicodemus, a rumor ofthe Jews. The sain came to Jesus
by night and said, unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art
(17:33):
a teacher come from God. Forno man can do these miracles that thou
doest, except God be with him. And Jesus answered and said in to
him verly, bally, I said, unto thee, except a man be
born again, he cannot see theKingdom of God. We have to be
born again. That's a new thingto a lot of people. But we
(17:56):
must be born again. And we'regoing to talk a little bit more about
that here in just a minute. And then he says in Acts chapter two
of verse forty seven, praising Godand having favor with all the people,
and the Lord added to the churchdaily such as should be saved. And
you thought about this verse a lotthis morning on the with them here.
(18:19):
And it says the Lord added tothe church daily such as should be saved.
It doesn't say such as will beor shall be. It says such
as should be saved. They neededto still be continually in God's love,
(18:41):
in obedience with God's word to besaved. They done what he asked.
They been baptized, and they sharedall things common. They sold their positions
and had all things common. Butthey still had to be obedient to God's
word in order to gain the salvationthat he had laid out for him.
(19:03):
Then we go back to John chapterthree, in verse four through five,
it says, and Nicodemus said, unto him, how can a man be
born when he is old, cantinghither a second time into his mother's womb
and be born? Jesus said, your verly, verrely, I say,
into thee. Except a man beborn of water and of the spirit,
(19:26):
he cannot enter into the Kingdom ofGod. You know, talking about contacting
the blood. You know, whenwe are buried in this watery grave of
baptism. You know, people thinkthat you're just, oh, I'm just
getting grounded. Well, it ain't. When we say I believe that Jesus
(19:51):
Christ is the son of God,we're being obedient to what God said.
He said for us to do that, and he gave us that example of
the Ethiopian unit doing that. Buthe said, see here is water.
What doth hindered me to be baptized? And then he went down into the
water and contacted the blood. Youcan't see it, but it happens to
(20:15):
everyone that obeys and does the thingthat God happened. That operation happens,
you know when I had my bagletter took out. I didn't know that
nothing happened to me till I wokeup. Really, when you're buried in
baptism, it's the same way. When you go down into the water.
You don't know that nothing happened toyou until you come back up. But
(20:40):
when we come back up, guesswhat, You're a new creature. All
things have passed away. And behold, all things have become new. We're
gonna talk about that new things,a few new things. In Colossians Chapter
two, Verse eleven and twelve,it says, in whom also we ye
are circumcised with the saircumcision made withouthands, in putting off the body of
(21:06):
the sins of the flesh, bythe circumcision of Christ buried with him in
baptism, wherein also your risen withhim through the faith of the operation of
God, who hath raised him fromthe dead. God did the raising from
the dead, He brought him backto life. He performs the same operation
(21:29):
on us when we contact the bloodin the water. We need to be
doing the things that God would haveus to do. You know, they
talk about circumcision and uncircumcision. Thecircumcision was the Jews, and that circumcision
by hands was the circumcision of themale child on the eighth day, the
(21:49):
cutting away of the flesh. Butthe uncircumcision was the Gentiles, and they
didn't do such things. But nowwe're one in Christ, and we have
that same operation of the circumcision intowater and into blood. In First Peter,
(22:11):
chapter one and verse twenty two throughtwenty three, it says, sing,
Yeah, purified your souls in obeyingthe truth through the spirit of unfounded
love of the brethren. See thatyou love one another with a pure heart,
furtively being one again, not ofcorruptible seed, but of incorruptible by
the Word of God, which livethand abide us forever. It's going to
(22:37):
live on forever and forevermore. Youknow, Dad was back there talking this
morning. There's a lady that worksat Daytona that's one hundred and three years
old. That's a ripe old age. But eventually, if time stands,
she'll pass away, just like everybodyelse. But we're going to live on
somewhere forever and forever more. Oursoul will be the forever and forever more.
(23:02):
In Jenes, chapter one and verseseventeen and eighteen. It says,
every good gift and every perfect giftis from above and coming down from the
Father lights, with whom there isno variableness, neither shadow of turning of
his own will began He us withthe word of truth, that we should
(23:25):
be a kind of first fruits ofHis creatures. We're the first fruits.
We should be the best. Youknow, even you go back and read
those sacrifices, they had to bewithout spot and without blendish. That's what
he expects of us in the dayof gentlemen, that when we confess,
(23:45):
there better not be a spot ora blendish. It'll be white as snow.
Everything will be white as snow.In First Corinthians, Chapter four and
verses fourteen through sixteen, it says, I write not these things to shame
him, but as my beloved sons, I warn you, for though ye
(24:10):
have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers. For
in Christ Jesus I have begotten youthrough the Gospel. Wherefore I beseech you,
be ye followers of me. Paulspeaking here, he said, be
ye followers of me. He wasdoing what God asked him to do.
(24:30):
And you know, you go backin your account of his obedience, there's
a lot of things that happened tohim. He was blinded in the way
he heard of voice, and hewas on his knees praying when the prophet
platoon, and then he said, arise and be baptized. Wor's in away
(24:56):
thy sins. He had to dothe same thing we have to do today.
In order to be an obedient servantof Christ. We'd better be looking
at these new things. In SecondCorinthians, chapter five and verse seventeen,
it says, therefore, if anyman be in Christ, he is a
new creature. All things are passedaway, and behold, all things are
(25:19):
become neue. You remember back.I know it's hard to remember back years
and years ago, but remember backwhen you were first baptized, us,
us that have obeyed, how itfelt when you come up out of the
water, and everybody, Oh,this is just the greatest thing, and
(25:41):
we're going to be workers for theLord. You know the power that you
feel. We need to have thatpower every day, but we don't.
We let it wan over time. But that power is just as powerful today
as it was when we were baptized. The same things that Jesus offers.
(26:02):
Then he offers now for us tobe obedient children of his. In Romans
chapter eight and verse one and two, it says, there is therefore now
no more condemnation to them which arein Christ Jesus, who walk not after
the flesh, but after the spirit. For the law of the spirit of
(26:26):
life. In Christ, Jesus hathmade me free from the law of sin
and death. It has if we'rewe are led by the spirit. We
should be led by the spirit andnot by the flesh. But we're human
beings. The flesh gets in theway a lot of times. That's why
he made this way that we canhave forgiveness of sin, because he knows
(26:51):
that we would sin. We're fleshlypeople. They sends out there that'll get
us when at least expected. That'swhere we're to be on our told us
that are members of the church, and if you're not, you need to
be getting on your church toes gettingwith it. Come be a part of
this, it's something special. InGalatians chapter six and verse fifteen and sixteen,
(27:17):
it says, for in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision avail it anything,
nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And as many as walk according to
this rule, peace be to themand mercy, and upon the God of
Israel, peace and mercy walk accordingto this rule. Are we walking according
(27:41):
to this rule a new creature?Think about that? Then, he says.
In Colossians three, in verse fivethrough eleven, it says, motify
therefore your members, which are uponearth ontication, uncleanness, and an affection,
evil, concupancy, and covetousness, which is idolatry, for which they
(28:08):
say the wrath of God come.Come on the children of disobeedience, in
which you also walk sometime when youlived in them. But now ye also
put off all these these anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, faith and
(28:29):
communication. Out of your mouth lienot one to another. See that you
have put off the old man withhis deeds, and have put on the
new man, which is renewed inknowledge after the image of Him that created
him. Where there is neither Greeknor jew circumcision or uncircumcision, barbarian scynthion,
(28:57):
bond or free nor free, butChrist is all in all. He
made us all warm. You knowin our country today they so much about
this little group and that little group, and then if it ain't a group,
(29:17):
it's about what color is my skinand what color is your skin,
and how we've been treated over theyears. And yes, those groups have
been treated awful in most instances,a lot of them have, and not
deservedly so. But yet in ChristJesus we get persecuted on a daily basis
(29:44):
because a lot of it's our owndoing. We won't stand up and say
the things that need to be said. But a lot of it is people
don't respect what God has to sayabout CHRISTI eighty
