Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome the Blessings in Christ. I'm Scott Roberts. Blessings in
Christ is also the Church of Christ preaching the Gospel
of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Of he that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved. The Church of
Christ is scriptural in name Romans sixteen sixteen, scriptural and
origin Colautions one eighteen, scriptural and Doctrine one Timothy four sixteen,
(00:22):
and the Church of Christ is scriptural in practice James
one and twenty two. Our lesson today is a study
on blood. The title of the lesson is Power in
the Blood, and it is a study how God has
always required blood for sacrifice and also how blood has
(00:43):
been used in worship to God in the comparison of
the Old Testament and the New Testament. So once again
our lesson is power in the Blood. We hope you
enjoy the lesson and please like us on Facebook.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
But anyway, we'll get through as much as we can,
and hopefully I won't.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Keep everybody too long.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
I wanted to do a study in blood, and the
main verse I wanted to focus on is Hebrews nine
and verse twenty two, and that is that God has
always required the shetting of blood for the remission, for
the remission of sins Hebrews nine and verse twenty two.
And almost all things are by the law purged, purged
(01:25):
with blood, and without the shedding of blood, there is
no remission. The word remission, of course, means to carry away.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
To take away.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
And when we came to Christ, when we believed upon
Christ's repentitive sins, confessed him before men, and we were
buried with Christ and baptism, then our sins were taken away.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Our sins were washed away, Acts twenty two and verse sixteen.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Now why Terius our arise and be baptized, washing away
thy sins. Also, if you would like to go ahead
and look at in the book of Revelation, John's revelation,
if you want to turn their around verse seven, Revelation
verse seven, and we see a glimpse of heaven. In fact,
(02:16):
I read this at the recent funeral that I went
to Revelations chapter seven, kind of halfway through the chapter.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
If you want to go through around verse.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Thirteen, and we see that blood is mentioned again Revelation
seven and verse thirteen.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
And once again, this.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Is a vision, this is a description of not only heaven,
but the activity of heaven, and who will be in heaven.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Revelations seven and verse thirteen.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
One of the elders answered me, saying, which are are
these which are rat in white robes? And whence came they?
And I said unto them, sir, thou knowest, And he
said to me, these are the These are they which
came out of great tribulation.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
And they have washed their robes and made them white
in the blood of the Lamb.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
So here's an example again of who will be in
heaven will be those that have washed their robes spiritually,
of course, But how did they wash the robes?
Speaker 2 (03:17):
They washed them in the blood of the Lamb. So
therefore they were cleansed.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
They were forgiven by coming in contact with the blood
of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Who are those
that qualify to make it to heaven? Would be those
that came into contact with the blood of the Lamb
at baptism. Therefore they are before the throne of God
and serve him day and night in his temple. And
(03:41):
he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore neither shall
the sunlight.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
On them, nor any heat.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
For the Lamb, which is in the midst of the throne,
shall feed them, and shall feed them into living fountains
of waters. And God shall wipe away all tears from
their eyes. Here's another example of the blood of Christ.
That we are cleansed. We are saved by the blood
of Christ. And of course we must be faithful unto
(04:12):
death if we are going to be qualify for heaven.
In Romans five and verse eight, that God committeth his
love towards us, that while we were yet sinners, Christ
died for us much more than now, being justified by
His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath through him.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
So here's an example.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
And not only are we saved by the blood of Christ,
not only are our sins removed, but now we are justified.
And the word justify, of course, means that we must
become holy. We must meet God's standards of holiness in
order to be a child of God.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
The Bible also tells us to.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Come out from among them, and could come out from
among them, and be ye said, we must be separate
if we are going to live that sanctified good Christian
life and Ephesians one of verse six to the praise
of His glory of his grace, wherein he hath made
us accepted in the Beloved, in whom we have redemption
(05:16):
through His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the
riches of His grace. And here's an example of where
the blood helps us to be accepted in the Beloved.
And the word beloved means accepted by God, by God Almighty,
the Father Son.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
In the Holy Spirit.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
You know in Acts chapter two, after we obey the
Gospel and we are baptized into Christ, that we receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit. One of the gifts
is fellowship. We will be accepted in the Beloved. And
now we can approach the throne of Grace with boldness.
And that of course is not arrogance or pride, but
(05:54):
it is with confidence we can come before Christ once.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Again Hebrews nine and verse twenty two.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
And almost all things by the law purged with blood,
and without blood there is no remission. And Hebrews thirteen
and verse twelve. We know that we are sanctified by
the blood of Christ. It says, wherefore Jesus also that
he might sanctify the people with his own blood suffered
(06:20):
without the gate. So we see here that we are justified,
we are sanctified, We have remission of sins through the
blood of Jesus Christ. Hebrews ten and verse twenty two
tells us that we can have full assurance in our
faith that if we have obeyed what God has told
us to do, then we are a child of God
(06:41):
and worthy of God and his blessings, and we have
hope of eternal life. Hebrews siner verse twenty two. Let
us draw near with a true heart in full assurance.
That's faith, full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled
from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure will.
(07:01):
Let's go ahead and look at the power in the
blood and see how blood has been used throughout history
and throughout actually all three parts of the Bible, there
are three parts. The patriarchal age would be before the
nation of Israel, to where the fathers of each family
would actually give sacrifices to God to be pleasing to God.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
And in the.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Mosaical age, the birth and the life of the Nation
of Israel, that the high priests would enter into the
most Holy Place, the Holies of Holies. Once a year
he would enter not only into the Tabernacle the Temple,
he would go in through the gate and go.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Into the Holy Place.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
But once he went into the actual tabernacle the Temple,
he would actually go into the most sacred place, the
Holy of Holies, which was separated by the veil.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
The veil well actually kept, was.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Separate from the rest of the Tabernacle, and the high
priests would go in one time a year, and he
did not go without blood, and he would offer the
blood of animals. And this blood would be for partial atonement,
not just for the sins of the people, but also
(08:23):
for the high priest, because he was just merely a man.
And this did not totally forgive sins. It just set
them forward until the next year. But it was the
blood of Christ that gave us full atonement. But anyway,
let's start in Genesis chapter four, and we see that
(08:43):
throughout the Old Testament, the blood of animal sacrifices was
required to keep the Lord's people safe. God required blood
in worship and also the sacrificial blood for four the
people's sins. But here in the in Genesis chapter four,
(09:04):
the blood sacrifices, and God's word and obedience that the
blood of animals gave protection and God required blood.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
For sacrifice.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
The first killing of animals to benefit man was mentioned
in Genesis and Genesis chapter four. And we see an
example here of Cain and Abel. So if you want
to go ahead and turn to Genesis, the book of Genesis,
chapter four, and we will see that Abel brought a
(09:40):
blood sacrifice that was acceptable to God Genesis four in
verse two.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
And she bear again his brother Abel.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was
a tiller of the ground. And in process of time,
it came to pass that Cain brought the fruit of
the ground as an offering known to the Lord, and
Abel he also brought the firstlings of his flock and
the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel,
unto his offering. And we see here that not only
(10:11):
was it a blood sacrifice of animals, but it was
the best that he had.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
It was the best of the best.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
He did not offer God the blood of his leftovers
of the animals that were not the best of what
he had verse five. But under Cain and to his offering,
he had no respect, and Cain was very wroth and
his countenance fell. So we see here that Abel brought
a sacrifice that was worthy of God, but Cain did not.
(10:44):
So the first blood sacrifice we read of was that
of Abel. What Abel did was by faith. He offered
up a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, a more full
and perfect sacrifice. That signifies that after the fall of
the Garden of Eden, God opened up a new way
(11:04):
for mankind to return to him.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
And don't we see with the at the.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Garden of Eden that Adam and Eve were cast out,
and also the Tree of Life was also taken out.
But you know you see it again when you read
the Book of Revelation. You'll see that the tree of
life or eternal life will be in heaven some future
day if we do make it. God allowed mankind to
(11:30):
return to him in religious worship, but not according to
man's standards, but according to his standards. But we see
that blood was used as required by God for worship
and sacrifice to be acceptable to God. This is one
of the first instances where it is the record of
(11:54):
fallen man going to worship God. And as a showing
of God's love for his creation, we were allowed to
return to.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
God, but only with blood.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
God always required a blood sacrifice. After the fall, God
would be obeyed and worshiped by sacrifices. This way of
worship would also require a confession of sin, a desert
of sin, a profession of faith in every redeemer. And
it was for the ransom of the souls of men.
(12:28):
There was a large difference between the two worshipers. Cain
was unacceptable, but Abel was accepted. Abel was a righteous
man enacted by faith and obedience. And that is something
else that we must look at too, that not only
can we use blood in the worship and in worship
(12:52):
to God, but the blood must be applied in the
correct way, which we will see later on in this lesson,
that it had to be according to God's commandments. So
not only would blood be used, but we also had
to have obedience. Matthew twelve and verse fifty, Jesus said,
(13:14):
for whosoever shall do the will of my Father which
is in heaven, the same as my brother, sister and mother.
Solomon told us in the Book of Ecclesiastics Ecclesiastics twelve
and verse thirteen. Let us hear the conclusion the whole
matter fear God and keep his commandments, for this is
the whole duty of man. Jesus told us in John
fourteen and verse twenty one. He that hath my commandments
(13:37):
and keepeth them. He it is that loveth me, and
he that loveth me shall be loved In my father.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
I will love him and manifest myself to him.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
So we've seen two components, actually three components, worship, blood
and also obedience if we are going to be acceptable
to God.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Next we see.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Another occasion where blood would be used, and that would
be in the Passover. So turn if you would, to
Exodus chapter twelve. Exodus chapter twelve, and we see the
institution of the Passover. And of course we know that
the children of Israel, the future nation of Israel, they
(14:19):
were in bondage for many years in Egypt. There were
many plagues that the Lord brought upon Egypt, but the
last plague was the death of the firstborn.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
And we see here once again that blood.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Would be used according to God's commandments. It was not
for man to decide what to do with the blood himself,
but it had to be according to God's commandments, and
the most important thing, it had to be applied now.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Listen to this.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Not only do the animals that have to be sacrificed,
but all those that were within the household. They would
be protect from death, the vengeance of God and this
last plague on Egypt only if the blood was applied.
It specifically had to be applied on the doorpost, and
(15:13):
the angel of Death would come around and see the
blood on the doorposts and listen to this, and would
pass over and.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Go to the next house.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
So here is where blood protected the individuals.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
And it was only going to be.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Good blood and good for protection if it was according
to God's commandments, and if it was applied according to
the way God had commanded.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
And don't we see this similarity today.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
If we are going to come into contact with the
blood of Christ, and because God requires blood for the
remission of sins, we must do it according to his standards,
according to his commandments.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
So we see this.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Exodus twelve and verse five. Your lamb shall be without bliomish.
Once again, it would be an animal that was the best,
not the least, but the best that you had without blemish,
a male of the first year. And you shall take
it out from the sheep or from the goats, and
(16:14):
you shall keep it.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Verse six in Exodus twelve.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
You shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of
the same month, and the whole assembly, the congregation of Israel, shall.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Kill it in the evening. Listen to this.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
They shall take the blood and strike it to the
tour on the two side posts and on the upper
door post of the houses, wherein they.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Shall eat it.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
And they shall eat of the flesh that night, roast
with fire and unleaveded.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Bread, and with bitter herbs.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
They shall eat it, eat not of it raw nor
sodden with all the water, but roast with fire his
head and legs, and with the pertinence thereof.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
You shall not let of it remain until morning.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
That which remaineth of it till morning you shall burn
with fire.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
And twelve in Exodus twelve.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night,
and I will smite all the first born and the
land of Egypt, both man and beast, and against all
the gods of Egypt.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
I will execute judgment. I am the Lord.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Now Here is one of the main parts of our lesson,
and that is without blood would be death. Without the blood,
there would be death in that household, and anyone that
does not have the blood of Christ now will come short.
They have not obeyed the gospel planet of salvation. And
(17:36):
of course without the blood of Christ, that we will
fall short and judgment.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Second Corinthians five and verse ten.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
that everyone may receive the things done in his body
according to what he has done, whether it be good
or whether it be bad.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Galatians six and verse seven. Be not deceived.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
God is not marked for whosoever a man and soeth.
For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
For he that saw it to his flesh shall of
the flesh re corruption. But he that sew it to
the spirit shall of the spirit reap ever lasting life.
The blood had to be applied, God had to be obeyed,
(18:18):
so blood. It's not just blood that's a requirement by God,
but blood that has to be used for a specific
use according to God's requirements. So so far, we've seen
two occasions where the blood by Abel was acceptable to
God and his sacrifice his.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Obedience and worship to God.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
We also see the institution of the passover Exus Chapter
twelve and if blood was not used and applied properly,
then there would be death. So we see many instances
where blood is required, and we see a comparison here,
and we will get to the mosaical law here.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
In just a second.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
And we see that we must use blood in the
right way. And when we preach the gospel, we must
also teach obedience to all of God's commandments, or the
blood will not be used in the correct way. Matthew
twenty eight and verse nineteen. Go you therefore, and teach
all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father's
(19:23):
Son and the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all
things whatsoever I've commanded in Lo, I am with you.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Always, even to the end of the world.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
So Jesus Christ was then and is now God's saving power.
By shedding his blood on the cross. A Christian always
has the blood of Christ and our security in times
of uncertainty, and gives us courage and boldness to access
His throne of grace. So we will continue on here.
(19:56):
Let's go ahead and look at more instances. Also in
the Old Testament, blood sacrifice of animals was also required
for sanctification of the priests. So here is a third example.
Go ahead and turn if you want to to Exodus
chapter twenty nine, Exodus chapter twenty nine, and we see
(20:19):
down around verse twenty. So go ahead and go down
to about verse twenty of Exodus twenty nine, and we
see that the initiation and the consecration of the priest
was required a blood sacrifice. Now, the difference in consecration
and sanctification. Sanctification is more of a general term to
(20:43):
where we are set apart.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
We are God's people.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
When June and James come and tell their friends they're
a Christian, they're identifying themselves as a follower of Christ,
as someone that has obeyed the Gospel plant of Salvation,
and they've been baptized into Christ, and they are not
only a Christian, but they wear the name of Christ.
Consecration was not only sanctified, but they were they were
(21:09):
set apart for a specific use. And we know that
all of the priests and the temple they were they
had to be of the levitical tribe.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
And they were trained.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
They they had specific jobs within the temple and the
Tabernacle that they had to do. But the consecration, which
is not only sanctified. But they were they were trained,
they were trained for a specific use, all in the
service of God. And you know, in the same way
today we are also everybody, every Christian. Here we are priests,
(21:44):
and we offer up sacrifices continually, you know, the fruit
of the spirit, love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meetness,
temperance against such and the law.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
When when we come in and.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
We smile at one another, and we share our life
and we shake hands, we share love. You know, that
is another sacrifice that we make to each other, and
we love God. Our worship here John four says that
God is a spirit when we must worship him and
spirit in a truth, when we sing praises to God,
when we have joy in our hearts, when we pray
(22:17):
without ceasing, when we dedicate and consecrate and sanctify our lives,
saying I am.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
A follower of Christ.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
When I made this commitment and came forward and confess
Christ before men, I was saying for the rest of
my life, that was going to be first and foremost.
When we put God first in our life, saying, now
shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
all I soul, all thy mind and all thy strength.
And the second like under the first, I stually love our.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
Neighbor as myself.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
That's also a spiritual sacrifice, putting God first, first and
foremost in our heart, that we are a Christian. So
the consecration of the priest and the Old Testament also
required the use of blood. Exodus twenty nine and verse twenty.
(23:06):
Then now shall kill the ram and take the blood.
There's a blood again, and put it on the tip
of the right ear of aarin, upon the tip of
the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb
of the right hand, and upon the great toe of
the right foot, and sprinkle blood upon the altar round about.
And now shall take the blood that is upon the altar,
(23:28):
and of the annoying oil, and sprinking upon aerin his garments,
upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons.
And he shall be hallowed or holy, and his garments,
and his sons and his garments with them.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
So we could go on.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
But we see that the blood of these animals was
not only to be taken.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
But listen, it was to be applied.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
It was to be applied for the very importantn This
was one of the most important positions back in the
Old Testament was for Aaron who was a high priest,
but also for the priests. So here is a third
occasion where blood was required. Blood was used for sanctification,
consecration and debt, the dedication of Aaron and his sons
(24:19):
for the priestly service to God. Let's look at blood
really quickly here. Why is blood so important to God?
And that is because the life is in the blood,
and we see the equivalent just as the spiritual life,
our spiritual life is in the blood of Jesus Christ.
(24:40):
And we need to realize that when we partake of
the Lord's supper and the bread is his body and
the fruit of the vine is his blood. And without
the shedding of blood, you know, we would have no.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Hope of heaven.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
We could not be Christians, we would not have remission
of sins. Because God always required blood, and He all
require the blood to be applied, and we spiritually apply
that blood when we spiritually go to the cross and
come into contact with His blood when we were saved
(25:13):
in baptism.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
Life is in the blood.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
There is life in physical blood, just as there is
life and salvation in the spiritual Blood of Christ. Life
in the blood, and there is no life without physical blood.
One of the main causes of death would be the
loss of blood. If we have a heart attack or
(25:39):
a stroke, or if someone cuts their artery. If there's
not enough blood within the body, the cells die. And
think about those that have never come into contact with
the spiritual blood of Christ. Following another gospel, just believing
saying that you know, baptism is not necessary, but it
(26:00):
is because just as the physical body needs blood, our
spiritual life needs the blood of Christ for forgiveness of sins.
There's no life without physical blood, just as there is
no forgiveness of sin and no spiritual sacrifice in our
life without the blood sacrifice of Christ. Blood carries oxygen, nutrients,
(26:26):
feeds ourselves, carries away waste and purities from our body.
Blood heals, strengthens, repairs, builds new tissue, binds wounds, and
gives life. You know, one of the first things that
a doctor will tell you if you have a problem,
or if you have a cut, or if you need
(26:46):
something that needs healed, do you have a good blood
supply that's getting to that You know, any blockages, heart
attacks or strokes is when blood is restricted and death
comes if blood is.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Restricted to too much.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Just as the blood of Christ, also the blood of
Christ heals, forgives, saves, builds up, sanctifies, encourages, gives peace
and God's mercy to the obedient Christian that has come
into contact with that.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Blood at baptism.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Deuteronomy twelve and verse twenty three gives a warning, only
be sure that thou eat not of the blood, for
the blood is the life, and thou mayest not eat
of the life without the flesh.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
The life of a creature is in the blood.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
It is a phrase that appears in the Bible, also
in Leviticus seventeen, Verses eleven through fourteen. The sacrifice of animals.
Blood also symbolize the price of salvation, the forgiveness that
would one day be paid completely by God himself when
He became flesh and became a man as Jesus Christ,
(28:02):
Jesus who took on all our sins, and he gave
his own blood, that we would have forgiveness of sins.
So we've seen at least three or four instances where
blood was used and required required by God. So we
see that also the redemption or the Christ paid for
(28:25):
all of our lives, was paid by the blood of Christ.
You know, we had a sermon not too long ago
called what is the value of a soul?
Speaker 2 (28:35):
And Jesus said that.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
We are worth more than the birds, you know, for
that God cares for all the birds. Jesus also told
us that our souls are worth more than the entire
wealth of the world. For what is a man profeted
if he gained the whole world and lose his own soul?
But what is the exact price of our soul? And
(28:58):
that is when Jesus died on the cross, that his
blood sacrifice is the exact value of our soul.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
We were redeemed that.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Purchase price that freeze us from a life of sin
has put us into Christ. And you know, when we
go out, we all love our new cars. And you
know Brian Becker, he's got him a big TV, you know,
and he goes and Best Buy and he says, I
want that sony up there.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
It's like eighteen hundred dollars.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
And they said, well, you've got to come up with
eighteen hundred dollars. And he's like, eighteen hundred dollars. That's
a lot of money. But he wants that TV. It's
