Speaker 2 (00:46):
Tonight, we'll review the season opening win over Delaware State
as the Hens improof to twelve and all in that series,
and we'll look ahead to the trip to Boulder, Colorado
this weekend. Plus he threw for three touchdowns and ran
for one. Nick minnick Ucci is here and a captain
who had two tackles for loss and a sack in
the opener. Dylan Trainor is here as well, but first

(01:09):
please give a big welcome to the man that has
never lost a home opener as a college football coach.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Ryan cart is in the building.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Coach, it is It is good to be seated next
to you in front of all these fans here at
Clondie Kates.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
It's going to be on Main Street.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
It is great. It's great to be back. And you know,
we had fun on our first show. Are not live taping,
and it's good to kind of nostalgic already to be
back in Kate's.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Well, you crossed the taping earlier. There was no post editing.
There was not like I didn't have to take anything out.
I mean it was good, but we nothing like being
here at Kate's'll be here four times this season and
we look forward to all of them.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Congratulations.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
I mentioned thirty eight seventeen win over Delaware State. You
have never lost and this is the great sports information
team I'll give credit to for these stats. But never
lost a home opener as a as a coach, a
position coach, a coordinator, a head coach, an assistant, You've
never lost a home opener, that's pretty impressive stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
I didn't know that. Yes, you think I would know that,
But that's awesome.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
Well you.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Have lost it.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Even if you go back further as a player and
a coach, you are twenty three and one as a
player coach the Ricky Santos game.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Remember that? Remember the Ricky Santos game. That's the only one. Yeah,
I do remember that one. They you coach a lot
of games.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
I don't know, but you had such success as a
coach at the home opener and another one to add
to the win, Colm with the victory over Delaware State.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
We're going to talk about that. A lot of great
things happened in that.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Game, so things as most teams have Week one to
improve upon and build upon.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
We'll talk about that.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
But before we get into all that, I did want
to start by discussing Zach Marker because we just hurt
for him.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
We feel for him.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
An ACL injury in December of twenty twenty three, if
you remember, and then he works so hard to get
back and be able to play in twenty twenty five four.
He read shirts last season, uh you know, with read shirting.
He commits to another year, commits to another year, to
get a shot at that being QB one and for
maybe it being his team, and on the first run

(03:14):
play of the game, he injures himself and it seems
to be a pretty serious injury, And just wanted to
get your your thoughts on the journey that Zach has had,
and I know you feel for him as well.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yeah, our heart breaks for for Zach, you know, just
the the effort that he put into his rehab and
getting back to a point where even last year it
was capable for him to go in when we needed
him when everybody else was getting hurt, even though we
kind of planned on not playing him, and then kind
of tough that one out last year and got back
to one hundred percent and really put a lot into it,
and like you said, kind of had his chance to

(03:49):
go out there and and run with it a little bit.
And and it's just such an unfortunate thing that that's
that's the beauty of sports sometimes, and it's also the
sad thing about sports sometimes is that you know, it
can give you some great things, it could also take
some things away from you. And the great thing is
obviously the support system that he has at the University
of Delaware, the support system that he has from our

(04:10):
team and the leaders around him, you know, he'll he'll
still be with us and part of us, and and
there's obviously nothing that can stop that. And we just
feel for him, and just like any of the injuries
that we have in our program, and so disappointing with
the amount of effort and work that people put into
this game, and you know, it becomes your life and

(04:30):
your livelihood, and and to have it taken away from
you and take maybe maybe your last chance at it
as a as a sixty year senior like he is,
and to think about where he came from and basically
a self made quarterback and nobody told everybody told him
he couldn't play quarterback.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
He was a receiver in high school.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
He went and did it himself and went to a
junior college and then you know, got an opportunity and
made the most of it, and so really exciting to
watch his journey and to have it end like that
is uh, you know, certainly not tragic, but it's it stinks.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Yeah, we certainly feel for a great guy, But the
game had to go on and there was a lot
more football to be played. When Zach went down, and
in comes Nick Minicucci. All Nick Minnicucci has done in
his career is stepped up when called upon. You go
back to the playoff game, the first true freshman has
started quite some time at that point. Lafayette playoffs in

(05:20):
twenty twenty three, and then he comes in and starts
the final four games of last season when the quarterback
room was dealing with some injuries, comes in game one
week one.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Against Delaware State and puts on a show. Just how
would you describe your quarterbacks efforts?

Speaker 4 (05:34):
Well, I mean, obviously, I think part of it's evident,
right and how well he prepared because he was ready
to go. But I think the other thing that needs
to be said is obviously, you know, we have to
make decisions as coaches, and especially at that position, it's
hard to in those quarterback competitions to go. They go
back and forth throughout camp doing great things, both of them,
and I mean it was basically a coin flip of

(05:55):
who gets the chance to go out there in the
first one and prove that they're the guy in live
situations and see what they can do. And you know,
in his own right, had an unbelievable training camp and
and you know Nick was also, you know, someone who
could have certainly been a starter in that game, and
and then it takes a lot to be told that
you might not be and then still prepare like you are.

(06:16):
And that is what we're most proud of it obviously
that the team sees and that's why the team rallies
around him as well because of how how that doesn't
phaze him. He's gonna go out there and be Nick
regardless of you know, who tells him that he is,
he's playing or not. He's ready to play whenever he
has to, and obviously, you know, we're appreciative of that.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Well.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
It was an emotional start to the contest with Zach
going down and Nick coming in. And it's not a
typical for the first few drives for I think any team,
and you saw it around college football to kind of
get things moving and then feel things out getting the
field for your offense. It did take a couple of drives,
but once you started, you didn't stop. You scored a
touchdown or got in field goal range each of the

(06:57):
final five drives. With the game plus the pick six,
know your thoughts just on the overall offensive performance before
we switch it up and talk a bit about the defense.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Yeah, I mean, like you said, I think it took
us a while to settle down.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
I think both quarterbacks, you know, Zach at first and
then Nick when he got in there. You know, the
boss were coming out a little hot and they were
coming high, and you know, all of a sudden, we
just had to kind of settle down and realized we
were we were playing against somebody else for a change.
You know, those emotions always run a little high. In
the first one, our crowd was unbelievable. Our student section
was record setting, it was loud. It was one of
those environments where, all of a sudden, that's our first

(07:28):
time in a situation that's not just you know, playing
music at practice, and so I think that, you know,
obviously was part of it. And then you know the
I mean the second drive of the game, you know,
we lost our starting quarterback for basically the season and
also still drove down to the one yard line and fumbled.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
So I wouldn't say we were this bad start.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
I would say, you know, we we had I don't know,
did we have any three and ounce on the day.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
I don't think. I don't think so. I think I
think we were okay.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
I think we were obviously a little sloppy throwing and
catching early, and then once we settled down with that,
I thought we really you know, had a nice balance
and moved the ball well and you know, had that
ability to kind of do what we needed to. I
don't think we had enough explosive plays, which you know
you can see evidenced by the actual number. I think
we only had five X plays, which is is low
for us, and it made us drive the drive the

(08:16):
field and then just like anything else, you saw what
happened with the fumble. Obviously it can't happen, but that's
a product of having long drives, right. The more you know,
the more pleasy you have in a drive, the more
chance there is for something to go wrong.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
And so we got to get into the end zone faster.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
And then on the defensive side of things, I think
if you took press conferences from all the college football
coaches around the country, one of the phrases that you
would hear most commonly would be we have to tackle better.
We could have tackled better, and that's hard to simulate
in practice, so it's not a delaware thing. Gavin Mole
had a great game. He had ten tackles. Dylan trainer
we want to talk to later, had a sack. But

(08:53):
there were some plays where they're running back, got to
slip out a little bit. And you described earlier today
in the press conference. So I love for you to
with our listening group of we could tackle better doesn't
always necessarily mean we needed to do a better job
of grabbing them and bringing them to the turf. There
was a lot of things that go into that phrasing.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Sure, yeah, I mean, certainly, I think there were some
times that we fundamentally didn't tackle well, just like you
saw evidenced by what happened out there, right, There were
some times where we ducked our head. There were some
times where we could probably tried to take too many
shots at somebody instead of just getting them down. And
that's sometimes similar to the you know, the quarterbacks thrown
a little high in the beginning of the game, right,
trying to go make that big play, do something out

(09:32):
of body that we just.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Got to calm down and go make a play.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
But there's also the obviously, you know, the whole defensive perspective, right,
there could be a time where we might not have
closed that alleyway big enough or tight enough for that
tackle to be a makeable tackle too, Like we might
miss a tackle because there's too much room, too much space.
So some of that has to do with communication, eyes
being faster with how we get to our spots so

(09:57):
that those tackles are easier for us to make.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Right.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Just like when we're saying, oh, we didn't throw and
catch that, well, well yeah, maybe we were only opened
by about six inches instead of by about a foot
and a half. That's a lot easier to throw and
catch that you have to be less accurate.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
There's more room for error.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Whereas obviously if we have an alleyway as big as
these two tables over here, it's going to be hard
to make a tackle on a one on one, where
as opposed to a phone booth, we can go ahead
and make that tackle pretty consistently and maybe nine out
of ten times. And so it's not just fundamentals, it's
also the whole defense working together, similar to the way
the whole offense needs to work together and special teams needs.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
To work together.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
We got to do our job to make it easy
for our other players to do our job.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
You had alluded to it earlier.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
But the crowd for the student section five thousand, seven
hundred and fifty six students, to be exact, a record
attendance in the student section really impressive. You bought them pizza,
So that was probably a major part of it.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
But I'm still waiting on that bill as a matter
of fact. Maybe got to see what that is. Maybe
you don't want to remind everybody and go out. Yeah
I forgot about it.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
But it was really neat to have that kind of
love from the students coming out. And I think, you know,
a part of it is the younger generation is hyped
up about this FBS move. I mean that the most
fans that have ever been in that student section and
it went over to M and N and overflowed and
it was packed.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
But that atmosphere was fantastic. Yeah, it was electric. You
know you could feel the difference, you really did.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
It reminded me of when I was playing a little
bit different kind of sound and noise in there, and
so I was excited that we have that opportunity right
now to kind of maybe turn the page at something
different and something more fun. And you know, I think
the beauty of it was like that section was huge,
and as was every other section. And so that's the
thing that really makes it special is that now we

(11:46):
have buy in from you know, all parts of the community,
and that's outstanding. We're ready to roll and hopefully we
can continue to put a good product on the field
so that people want to continue to go out there,
and hopefully at some point we don't have a bad
weather game at home that chases people.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Away in the middle of the game.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
But it does seem like that's what Newark, Delaware on
a Saturday is.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
You were so tuned in with the weather. As a
head coach, you gotta know wind and weather. And did
even percent chance of rain two percent?

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Is that one? Looking forward to that one? Watching everyone
just kind of scatter when it came out of nowhere
and it was coming down hard. It was coming down hard,
but the attendance was there.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
The rain got some people wet, and maybe they scattered
a bit for the second half, but they were there
at the start and I'm sure they'll be back next
time we're around at Delaware State.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
And great product to a view at Delaware State. And
that's for sure. Part of the reason.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Delaware had a great product is because of their quarterback
Nick Minicucci, a three touchdown passing game ran for the
first ever FBS touchdown for a Delaware We'll talk to
Nick Minnicucci on the other side of this break.

Speaker 3 (12:45):

Welcome back in the Blue Hen's Football Coaches Shelves and
my First State Orthopedix, a team of award winning top
talks taking care of Delaware from the beach to the
bridge and beyond. Visit First State Ortho dot com. I'm
Scott klaus get In, our very first guest of the season,
the quarterback that led Delaware to victory on Thursday against
Delaware State. Nick Minicouci is here, everybody. Nick, thank you

(16:26):
so much for joining, Thank you for having me right
here on Main Street. You're at Lacasa pasta last year
with us. So you're your first visit to Kate's for
the show. Certainly not your first visit to Kates, I'm
sure throughout, but that's not what this interview will be
about we want to talk about the football game last
Thursday against Delaware State. They say you don't have to
get ready if you stay ready, and that's really what
you've done since becoming a Blue hen I mentioned I

(16:49):
referenced the FCS playoff performance against Lafayette, first freshman starter
in thirty years, when you were thrown into the mix
of there leading the.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
Team to victory.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
The end of last season, you step back in as
you win your first three games as a starter to
end the season, and then four minutes in the game
on Thursday against Delaware State, your number is called what
is your mentality? And coach Carty kind of talked about it,
what is your mentality going into these situations in terms of, hey,
I might not take the first snap, but I need
to be ready to take a snap well when my

(17:19):
numbers call.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Yeah, So I prepare very well.

Speaker 10 (17:24):
I mean I'm watching film a lot constantly, and I
fill up a note Like we had a press conference
earlier with like ARCHI three in them me and Dylan
did and they were asking me like, yeah, well how
do you prepare? I was like, well, I read a
lot of notes, so like my notebook is almost I
just got this notebook like twos ago. There's like a
lot of pages in it. I'm almost done with it.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
Wow.

Speaker 10 (17:42):
So like I am constantly. I write down almost everything
he says. Sometimes he kind of gets me in trouble
and I wrote it down, though, do.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Your reference back and he's like, well, don't do that,
and he says, well, page thirty eight, Paradraf three says here.

Speaker 10 (17:57):
Nothing like that, but preparing. I take preparation very serious.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
I never know what's going to happen. So and we
can all tell that it shows on the field. So
Zach Marker goes down. It was very similar to something
happened to you against Sacred Heart, where you're the starter
on the very first run of the game, you're out
for the contest. And then that kind of I believe
started Zach season a year ago. Your teammates. First, you're

(18:26):
competing for a spot, but you are teammates. How do
you balance the feeling of a feeling bad for your
friend and teammate going down, and then you know, having
to lock in and play a football game.

Speaker 10 (18:36):
I mean, I love Zach. That's my guy. He's been
with me, helping me out since my freshman year. I mean,
he's he helped me. He was like the reason why
I started playing better in twenty twenty three in that
playoff game because he said a couple very keywords to
me that helped me out. I mean, he's my guy,
I love him, Love them to death. But competing it
was it was it was tough. It was tough in

(18:57):
training cap I'm like competing with one of them, my
good friends. It's you know, you and he gets up
like you know, sometimes you just get a little annoyed
with them, but deep down you love them, but you
want to beat them out.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
It's a family. It's a family mental your brother.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
You're not always going to be uh exactly the best
buds at all times with your brother and your family,
but at the end of the day, you guys are
a family. And the quarterback position is just different than
any other spot where you know, it's one guy. It's
not a linebacker room where they can play a couple
of guys or the offensive line.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
It's one spot.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
So it gets competitive and uh and you went in
there and showed why you were the guys to come
in uh and and play against Delaware State. Let's talk
about your first touchdown because the first touchdown ever as
a member of the FBS. Was your running play? Did
I see ud as is selling a shirt with that
photo on it?

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Yeah, I saw something like that. That's pretty cool. That's that's
pretty exciting. Walk us through that play.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
I mean you ran, you ran in, absorbed some contests contact,
and then found your way into the end zone.

Speaker 10 (19:53):
Yeah, it was a it was a draw play. So
I took it up the middle. Uh, basically followed my
blockers to the touchdown. Coach always referenced is that and
me personally, I like contact. I mean I don't mind
it at all. It kind of would rather hit somebody
to be hit. So I saw a guy kind of
stay on the goal line and I was like, smear him.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
I'm gonna blast him.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
So we we love that mentality. Maybe when coach gets
up here, I'll ask him how much he loves you
going around and throwing some blocks on some of those
run plays as well.

Speaker 10 (20:26):
I think I learned my lesson of that. I got
cleaned up twice. We need you out there throwing around
the football. When you were throwing around the football in
the contest, you found Kyrie do places do placey and
at Jake thall. They both had really strong, strong games.
You had a good connection with them. Want to start
with Kyrie. He's a newcomer of the team.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Seven catches, eight nine yards and a touchdown and already
a Catch of the Year candidate for Kyrie. Do Placy
tell us about that one arm grab that was also
a similar play? It was it was also a draw play,
but we have like an attachment on it. So pre
stab I we have the headset monitor like the headset

(21:05):
like in our helmet. So right as I get to snap,
coach goes run draw. I didn't run draw. I saw
one on one. I took the fadeball and then after
I was like, yeah, my bad, I didn't hear you.
But I don't know at all. That's why you that's
why you lock into the Coaches show for the exclusives.

Speaker 3 (21:23):
The behind the scenes. How is that? How is that
different now with the I love it?

Speaker 10 (21:26):
With that, I love it, So you can kind of
get into play faster and you can kind of recognize
the show of the defense, like way faster than looking
at the signal and then having a look over here. Personally,
do I do like to look at the signal though?
It helps me process better. Well, it's good stuff going on.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
And uh and we talk with Nick Manacuci quarterback for
a Delaware Week one, and then Jake though, I mean,
I do want to read off his six catches before
the big one that we'll talk about, just just to
put in perspective just what he brings to the team.
On a third down and five, he got eight yards.
On a fourth and four seven yards on a second

(22:00):
and four he got five yards. Third and six, got
your seven yards, second and seven, got your ten yards.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
And then on a second and five five yards.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
I say all of that because it seems like he
literally gives you just what you need. That's got to
be a bit of a security for a quarterback like yourself,
knowing you have a guy you can find or when
you need.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (22:20):
I mean, he's super reliable, great guy, really smart on
the fields, knows everything, and he's extremely focused always. He's
always talking to me about plays like in practice and
leverages and certain routes. I mean, me and him pick
each other's brain twenty four to seven, me and him
and all the receivers basically, but him, especially because he's

(22:40):
always talking to me about certain stuff, and me and
him are actually watching film tomorrow after practice because I
just want to be as detot as possible for this week.

Speaker 3 (22:47):
Love to hear it, love to hear it. Getting ready
for the Colorado Buffaloes.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
I mentioned his first six catches, but then he gave
me a little bit more than you needed on that
last one, a fifty yard strik. What goes through a
quarterback's head when you see a guy that wide open.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
Thank you coach for drawing it. And that's what Jake
said earlier today.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
He said he credited coach Cardi on drawing up that
play to get him open.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
But you had to make the throw and you did. Yeah.

Speaker 10 (23:13):
I just kind of saw him screaming across the other field.
I mean the cover was blown, so I just potted
it out there to him. At first, I kind of
did think I overthrew him'm like I might have, but
he kind of ran under that perfectly. And he's a
great player. I love playing with him.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Well, we look forward to more and more touchdown throws.
You had three of them, as I mentioned on Thursday
against Delaware State, ran for one. Now you get a
full week though, as QB one helping you prepare, and
you talked about watching film with Jake and what all
goes into now getting ready for Colorado and how we'll
getting all the first team reps help you this weekend,
getting ready for the Buffaloes.

Speaker 10 (23:48):
Just being more detailed, Like in everything we do, we
speak on details twenty four to seven. We speak on
details and our core values. And we're a great football team.
We're going in to play a great football team. But
I mean, the mindset doesn't shift just because it's a oh,
it's a bigger school, it's a P four school. Like,
we are the same program. We are detail oriented and

(24:09):
we're gonna prepare the way we do. It might be
a little highlighted more, but we're gonna prepare the same
way we always do every week.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Very well said, very well, said Nick Mindekooch. We've got
a couple more just to get us out of here.
A couple of final questions. College will have some fun
College football twenty twenty six came out. What was your
reaction to see yourself in a football Game's gotta be
pretty cool. I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
I was not. I forgot to fill it out. So originally, yeah,
I asked anyone on the team. This would have been
a good question for I don't have the video game. No,
I are you know? I'm minute now. I was in
the update.

Speaker 10 (24:39):
Originally I didn't see the email that Coach Callaways sent out,
so I.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Filled it notepad too much. Well, yeah, I missed that one.
The electronic notes. Yeah, to check the email. Oh I
miss that one now.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
So it's cool some upgrades to Delaware since joining FB
saw this summer right. I think there was a post
that a barber chair was added to the laware a
locker room? You don't need to cut You're you got
a nice flow. Who needs getting that chair? Who on
your team? Could you could use me to use a haircut?

Speaker 3 (25:07):
Trip to the barber?

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Anthony Crenshaw for sure, no hesitation, sorry Anthony? And then lastly,
uh Colorado Dion sand There's lots of kids my age
and all ask coach Cardy the same had him as
as a favorite player growing up.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
Take me to a little Nick Minnicucci.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
Who was a player that that you admired when you
were a kid when.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
I was growing up? Obviously Brady, I'd say, but it
was a good one.

Speaker 10 (25:30):
I love Russell Wilson growing up when I was a kid,
like I was huge on Russell. I loved everything he did.
I wanted to play like him, but now recently like
I shifted. I want to be Josh Allen. Hey, that's
who I want to be. I love the way his
play style is. You got well, yeah, trying to emulate that.
He doesn't back down from some contact either. So uh, Nick,

(25:50):
we appreciate all you're doing. Great game on Thursday, and
keep it up against the Buffs on a Saturday afternoon.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
Thanks so much. Thankci everybody. Thank you guys. We'll take
the time out. We come back.

Dylan trainor and on special teams my Son Pollard. Welcome

(29:45):
back in to clondeke hates everybody, Thank you so much
for being here. I'm Scott Klask and Ryan Carty with me.
Now two of those Touchdown Club MVPs are here. We'll
talk to Dylan trainer. We spoke with Nick Minicucci, coach.
Let's talk about the one that isn't my son both
in coverage in a fifty yard return, got off to
a great start on special teams.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Yeah, my son did a great job.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
And you know, he was a very solid returner for
us last year in the special teams game and has
really taken a step uh in his defensive performance as well.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
Was always capable of it.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
And I think this this camp, he really put it
together as far as uh, you know, making sure this
communication was great as alignment and assignment and technique are great.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
And has a ton of talent and.

Speaker 4 (30:27):
A and and a really really competitive student athlete. So
excited about his progression and and and how well he
can be helpful to our defense and special teams this year.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
And it'll be a season of first we talked about
the first touchdown as an FPS program.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
First winn his FPS program.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Now we have the first Conference USA Weekly Award winner.
Finton Brose was the Conference USA Lineman of the Week.
His versatility to be able to move around and play
wherever coach the coaching staff needs him to be must
be so helpful for the team. He was playing center,
I want to say for the first time on Thursday

(31:04):
against Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
I think come.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
I could be wrong, and I'm pretty sure he started
at every offensive line position, maybe not left guard because
she's always there, But I do think that there's a
chance he started at every one.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Of them at some point, and.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
On the defensive line before we got here, and so, uh,
you know, it just kind of speaks to the type
of person that he is too, and and how how
tough and team oriented he is, how how well he prepares,
how smart he is, and and how versatile he is athletically.
It's not easy to do all those They're like, playing

(31:38):
tackle and guard and center is ridiculously different. Guys, that's
not something for us. We all think of him as
offensive linemen, right not. I fall victim that at times too.
Coach Rogers has to get me straight. You know, They're
they're very different positions and even the right side versus
the left side very different, you know, and you have
to kind of flip your your body around uh and
your stance and and so uh to do that and

(31:59):
be capable of it. And then the center position is
the most unique out of all of them, obviously because
in particular in our offense and a lot of offenses,
but in ours for sure, they have to make so
many calls like they are the quarterback of the offensive line.
We rely on them heavily in the protection game, and
we run. We call plays so fast, and we want
to get plays run so fast that our quarterbacks aren't

(32:22):
up there mic and every play and we're not doing
all the stuff that you see in the NFL, and
you know Peyton Manning's doing.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
That's not who we are.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
And that's what Finn had to do for the first
time in a football game. And so it's been really
awesome for his his progression as a as a leader
and as an offensive lineman and probably preparing him for
the next level and being somebody that could be that
versatile and communicate so well and have to have to
make all those calls.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
He already knew them all and now he's gonna make.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
Them now now it You know, we rely on him
to get us all going in the same direction, and
it's been it's been fun to watch him just continue
to take another step now and he was always our
best lineman. Now it's just another step for him, uh,
to to continue to to you know, climb and be great.

Speaker 3 (33:05):
That's very impressive stuff, I will say.

Speaker 5 (33:07):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
And I've had the honor of being able to vote
in the FCS Top twenty five and now I get
to vote for these weekly awards, and Lineman of the Week.

Speaker 3 (33:16):
Is new, at least coming from the CIA.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
For for anyone that thinks a play by play.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Broadcaster or a newspaper writer knows anything about what those
offensive linemen are are doing while we're watching the ball,
you got the wrong the wrong people are voting.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
But I clicked the fitting pro so I'm glad that that.
I thank you. I was interested in that.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
And then you mentioned Coach Rodgers real quick, I think
we have a big congratsa for Coach Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
This week, Coach Rogers had his first baby.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
Yeah, not surprisingly from an offensive line household.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
His name is Rushers Rush Rogers. That guy is going
to be in the NFL. One of those days.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
But congratulations to the family and uh and very exciting news.
Let let's uh move on Delaware State talk a little bit.
Of course, we'll talk personnel groupings and just getting ready
for Colorado in our final segment, but overall, just kind
of some thoughts on heading out to a boulder. Delaware
uniquely is one of three teams in the FBS to

(34:15):
face former NFL players in each of the first two weeks.
To Sean Jackson last week, of course, and Dion Sanders
coming up Stanford and Buffalo also not only to Sean
and Dion, but Clint portis Marshall Falk, Warren sapp all
players that are on these staffs. And you know, for
guys around our age, you think about growing up and like.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
The coolest guys playing sports.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Like Ken Griffy junior you had like Shaq and Penny
and Dion Sanders. I mean, those are some of the guys.
Maybe throw Emmitt Smith in there or a few others.
But were you a fan of Prime Time as a child?

Speaker 4 (34:50):
I was, and I was saying it's in the press
conference today. You know, my buddy who I played high
school receiver with, Brian was texting me the other day
was like, could you you know, could you imagine if
you were a kid you told yourself when you were
used to be in the backyard playing one on ones
and we got to take turns of who was playing,
who was who was being beyond you know what I mean,
and we would just you know, obviously not look anywhere
as good as or as athletics as him, but we

(35:12):
emulated him as much as we could. And you know,
to have a chance to go, you know, see him
at midfield is going to be pretty awesome because coach
Sanders is obviously what he's done as a coach has
been outstanding, and what he did as a player was
he changed the cornerback position and and maybe even the
athlete in the NFL and the way that it was viewed,
and so pretty awesome to watch his progression and watch

(35:36):
him as a as a father, as a coach, and
to see the things that he's done and the things
that the way that he's changed Colorado football has been
pretty awesome.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
And when you do see him and shake his hand,
you will be a five four and thirty feet above
sea level. That's how high it is out there in Boulder, Colorado.
That I would think takes some adjustments. So how do
you prepare a team to go out there and it
acclimated it in such a short amount of time to

(36:02):
task to play a game, and that that is a
real home field Advan has access for them, I would think, yeah.

Speaker 4 (36:06):
I mean the people in this room and you know
us pretty well as a program, and we we try
our best to do everything, you know, very analytically, scientifically,
make sure that we have the right answers and forethought
on things like this. And so a while back, we're talking,
you know, half a year ago, and we when this
thing was put on the I was obviously put on
the schedule before, but when we talked about the schedule
and started to kind of progress into okay, what do

(36:27):
we need to do for the season in preparation for
a couple of different games as far as the sports
science side.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
Like what can we research, what can we do?

Speaker 4 (36:35):
We've been looking into this for a long time and
have been in preparation for this, and so now it's
just putting it into practice right now.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
And you know, coming to fruition.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
Obviously, all the plans that are that were set in
place and set in motion a long time ago. So Yeah, certainly,
there's there's education that goes into it. I'd say the
most important thing is, you know, doing the things that
we always preach that are great to do nutritionally, whether
it be hydro and things you're supposed to put in
your body and the vitamins that you're supposed to have
and the rest that you're supposed to have, and all

(37:04):
those things that are really important become a little bit
more important at elevation, and so I think that's probably
the biggest thing, is really just being more diligent in
your preparation for your body. But then there are also
some specifics and you know, things that I have no
idea about, like nitrates and iron and things like that
that DeLine could probably tell a little bit more about,
as you know, I think he's an exercise science guy,

(37:25):
you know, and so you know, they could tell you
a little bit more about that stuff. But there are
some things then obviously there's some oxygen considerations which we
do we will have obviously set up on sideline and
all those things. I think the biggest thing for us
was to educate and obviously let the rest of it
take care of itself. And so we were prepared and
we will have those things that are a little bit different.
When you should eat as opposed to just how much

(37:46):
you should eat is a little bit different as well,
and so when you should get out there, and we're
actually getting out there a little later because of things
we've learned than normal than we would normally get out
to an away game, and so we've taken some considerations
and made plans for it, but we also don't want
to overthink it. You know, it's still playing football and
we're gonna be okay out there.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
And he got a great staff of.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
Figuring all that the sports science out here at the
University of Delaware. The game will be on September sixth, though,
which I learned thanks to Ed la Ferge and the
great team of sports information directors, is a significant date
in your life because September sixth, two thousand and three,
Ryan Carty scored his first career touchdown.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
As a Bluehead.

Speaker 4 (38:28):
I'll tell you what, I didn't have many of them,
so I didn't know that, and of course Ed and
you always have something to give me that I came
out of this not knowing. I think sometimes you just
make them up and I wouldn't know. I would not
remember that. Yeah, I'm sure we were up by forty
points and I went in there and ran speed option
for a touchdown or something.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
So yeah, the citadel, I mean that sounds about right.
It sounds like a forty point victory. There you go,
September six.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
We'll see some more touchdowns from the Blue and Gold
on September six on Saturday, and that's for sure.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
And the guy trying to prevent.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
Touchdowns from happening for the other team, Deal and Train,
and we're going to talk to him on the other
side of those bricks. We'll take a time out, we'll
come back Deal and Trainer when the team captains will
be on appropriate.

Everybody.

Speaker 2 (42:51):
Dylan, thank you so much for being here. Always great
to talk with you through the years, and congratulations on
the win for a defensive guy would think it's just
good to get out there and hit somebody's not wearing.

Speaker 3 (43:00):
Blue at ball.

Speaker 20 (43:01):
Yeah, no, that old. First of all, thank you for
having me. This is always an awesome experience. But yeah,
I think I think you kind of said it. You know,
it's all camp, you know, and all spring even you know,
you're kind of getting that itch to kind of just
go out there and and you know, kind of hit
somebody else for a change. So that was definitely a
great experience.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
And you made a lot of hits, two tackles for lost,
one of them a big third down sack in the
first quarter.

Speaker 3 (43:23):
Take us through that play. How it all worked out
for you?

Speaker 20 (43:26):
First of all, kind of like Nick said, I mean, obviously,
hats off to the coaches because they got us in
a great spot.

Speaker 3 (43:31):
So that was that was awesome.

Speaker 20 (43:33):
But I was a little nervous at first because you know,
I got through and then the offensive lineman kind of
let me go, and then right behind him was a
running back who gave me a good little shot, so
that was not as enjoyable. But then kind of was
able to shake him off a little bit, and obviously,
you know, wouldn't have been able to do it if
the guys behind me and to decide we weren't doing
their job. So, you know, that was definitely definitely a

(43:53):
defensive sack as a whole, more than anything.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
Team at for team effort. And that's a good statement
to make. You credit your teammates, you credit your co
you know. One of the reasons answers like that, I'm
sure is why you're one of the leaders on this team,
one of the captains, and a six year veteran as
you kind of look at your career and now one
of the elder statesmen on the team. What is your
approach as a leader and a veteran on this team,

(44:17):
a guy that that players turn to.

Speaker 20 (44:19):
Yeah, I think honestly, I would like to think that
I made a lot of you know, physical and mental
and emotional strides between last season and this season. But
I do think that that's kind of been the biggest
step for me forward. And honestly, if you told me
three four years ago that that was the case, I
probably would have, you know, not been the happiest. But

(44:39):
I will say, like coach Demiko has done an unbelievable
job with kind of really showing me the ropes of
kind of what true leadership looks like. And you know,
I think it's the same thing you hear a lot
of coaches say sometimes it's you know, they don't care
how much you know until they know how much you care.
And I think, you know that's that goes the same
in leadership. So really just trying to embody that every
day and and kind of going in with the mentality

(45:01):
that like, in whatever whatever I do with this team,
you know, the shepherd must smell the smell like the flock,
and so you know, I wouldn't really ask anybody to
kind of do things that I wouldn't do, and I'm
really just trying to lead by example.

Speaker 3 (45:13):
And you know all that.

Speaker 20 (45:15):
And it's been a lot a lot of fun with
the group of guys that we have here because you know,
they've been really receptive and the young guys we have
have been great followers, and everybody kind of.

Speaker 2 (45:25):
Steps up when their name's called. So it's been awesome.
Well that's good to hear. And you've been here for
a while. It seems like you've been here for longer
than you actually have because your brother played here before you,
and the last time there was not a trainer family
member on the football roster. Tom Brady won the Super
Bowl against the Falcons. Ryan Cardi lived in New Hampshire

(45:49):
and your freshman teammates at Delaware were in fifth grade.
That's in twenty and seventeen, the last time that a
trainer family member was not on the team. We're talking
about Leo. I'm doing he's great, good, he's doing great.
That's good here. But you have been a part. It's
an end of an era. If we got to find
you some more years. Are we done with trainers?

Speaker 3 (46:08):
No? No, yeah, no more. We can't.

Speaker 2 (46:10):
We can't find a cusin or anything to get over here.
But we've enjoyed all of the time. But you have
been through, you know, from I'm sure watching your brother
as a high school player and then joining Delaware.

Speaker 3 (46:21):
You were here through.

Speaker 2 (46:22):
Two seasons in twenty twenty one where you're playing in
the spring and then in the fall. Coaching change last
year kind of not being eligible excuse me for postseason
play in FCS. So you've been here through a lot,
and now there must be I would think it sets
a pride for you to be on the inaugural team
that leads this team into FBS football.

Speaker 3 (46:43):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 20 (46:43):
Yeah, it's it's awesome, and you know, we kind of
talk about it, you know, in the media and just
kind of in the locker room too. It's what every
kid dreams of, you know. I mean, obviously everybody wants
to play college football and when they're coming up and
things like that. And to kind of navigate through the
changes that this pro graham has gone through in recent years,
you know, to say I'm a part of that process

(47:05):
is it's been truly an honor.

Speaker 2 (47:07):
And as an FBS member, there are there are some
big time things that occur, and whether that's national TV
coverage or just you know, able to to play different
teams and go on different trips. But as a Nick
alluded to you spoke with RG three and Jason Bennetti
earlier today, that's got to be pretty neat all of
a sudden, you're prepping for a game and RJ three,

(47:28):
RG Three's on the other side of a zoom call.

Speaker 20 (47:30):
Yeah, that was definitely definitely a cool exper It was
funny too because we kind of walked into the conference
room and it wasn't really like any like formal introduction,
and that he was just like, hey, guys, I were you.

Speaker 3 (47:40):
That was funny.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
Former NFL A great and a college football star for sure,
but not only not the only media coverage you've had.
You and Joe Silver went down to Texas earlier prior
to the season starting and went down to media day.
You look sharp. It was really cool to see you
guys down there. That felt like an FBS level day.

Speaker 3 (48:00):
How was that experience like for you? Oh, that was awesome.
You know.

Speaker 20 (48:04):
One thing that we talked about that you and I
were talking about a little bit before this is just
the kind of genuine excitement that you know, that conference
as a whole seemed to display for us, for us
to be to be a part of their family. Now,
you know, it wasn't really kind of like they were
shying us away from the lunch table or anything. They
were kind of welcome and welcomed us with open arms.

Speaker 3 (48:22):
And we ate a lot of good barbecue too. So
that was good. That was pretty great.

Speaker 2 (48:27):
You should down down in Texas talking with Dylan Trainer,
one of the captains of this football team, and just
getting ready for next week against Colorado. I do want
to mention because I talked to coach Carty about it
in the first show. But we talked about that schedule
poster that was all around campus prior to the year starting,
and it was just you an intense photo that looked great.

(48:48):
The schedule is next to it. But what's it like
for you? You're walking around campus. I'm sure you're opening
doors and seeing the post round walls. What's that like
for you seeing your face all around New Yark.

Speaker 20 (48:59):
First of all, I think, you know, I think this
is where I should be got to face for radio
a little bit, but no, that was that was really cool.
I remember the first time we saw it and I
kind of was like, wait, this is like gonna like
go up places. So that was a little shocking, but yeah,
I mean it was. It was really cool to see.
You know, it's just kind of you know, the six
year guy, you know.

Speaker 3 (49:19):
The old dog. So they picked they picked the right guy. Yeah,
it was really cool to see. For sure. It was
a good looking poster. And and now on that schedule.

Speaker 2 (49:27):
Here we are at week two, getting ready for Colorado,
heading out to Boulder. The coach CARTI talked a little
bit earlier today about what stands out is kind of
that that speed and athleticism that the Buffaloes have what
stands out to you when you're watching film.

Speaker 20 (49:42):
Honestly, I think the biggest thing is kind of just
the size up front for them. I think that'll be
a unique challenge for us. And I think, you know,
more than anything the guys on our side of the ball,
and I know it's true for the offensive guys too.
It's just like everybody's just really excited for the opportunity.

Speaker 21 (49:57):
You know.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
I think the old saying.

Speaker 20 (49:59):
Of you know, the bigger they are, the hearder they fall,
I think, you know, physically in this case as well
as kind of metaphorically. You know, I don't think anybody
is really shying away from this opportunity by any means.
And you know, I think obviously, like you said, they're
they're big upfront, and you know they have some perimeter speed.
But you know, Coach Cardi alluded to it today after practice.
You know, nobody has to go out and be Superman.

(50:20):
Everybody just kind of has to do their job and
do it to the highest level.

Speaker 3 (50:24):
And I think we'll be in a really good spot.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
We look forward to it on Saturday. A couple of
final questions. Have some fun as we get out of here,
with Dylan Trainer. We talked about you were on a poster. Uh,
you were the poster boy for the spring schedule poster?

Speaker 3 (50:35):
Who was on your wall as a kid? What?

Speaker 13 (50:37):
What?

Speaker 3 (50:37):
Who was the guy? Uh that maybe you were hanging
posters up?

Speaker 21 (50:40):
Oh?

Speaker 20 (50:41):
Man, I think the first one that came to mind
was Brian Dawkins, who is Yeah, you know that guy
was pretty terrify this guy, right, yeah, So, I mean,
you know home down here, and.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
You had mentioned at media day Patrick Shupp was the
funniest guy on the team.

Speaker 3 (50:57):
What makes him so hilarious?

Speaker 20 (50:59):
I think he's just a goofball And honestly, I will say, like,
you know, I think having time to reflect on that,
there's so many other kids that I could probably put
into that category. There's just like this team that we
have right now, especially the young guys, like they're a
great group of guys to be around, and there are
some funny dudes.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
And the young guys are from a different generation. You
have to remember that. Yeah, you've been around for so long.

Speaker 3 (51:20):
And then lastly, I got to ask you about the EyeBlack.
I mean, where does it start? Where does then who
came up with with?

Speaker 2 (51:25):
Maybe that if you're not familiar, Dylan, really poor is
on the eye, black guy and sot a lot of guys. Though.

Speaker 20 (51:30):
Well, it's funny because my cousin, Delaney Sweitzer, she was
All American women's lacrosse goalie at Syracuse and then transferred
to Northwestern for her graduate year and they just played
in the national championship. She kind of like stapled that
for herself, like a couple of years back, and I
think I guess it runs in the families. Like the

(51:51):
blue Eyes. Dage is kind of a good little contrast.
It pops a little bit. So I saw her doing like, dang,
she looks kind of scary. I might I might have
to try that well.

Speaker 2 (51:59):
As you and here intimidating a bunch of opponents throughout
your career, you will do so again on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (52:05):
Dylan.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
Always great to see you. Best of luck, Thank you
very much. I've had to still a trainer, everybody. We'll
take our last time out.

Speaker 18 (52:10):

If you're listening to the Klondike Hats Blue Hens Football
Coaches Show presented by First Date ORTHOPEDICX featuring head coach
Ryan Carty. Welcome back into your home for Delaware Football
ninety four to seven WDSD and iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (55:33):
And welcome back in to Klondike Hats as we get
prepared for Delaware to take on Colorado. I'm Scott classing
alongside now Ryan Cardi. Through all these years, my clock
management has not gotten any better.

Speaker 3 (55:45):
So we'll go over a little bit.

Speaker 2 (55:47):
I'm short to our producers back there, as we need
to take some time to talk about these Buffalos that
they are transitioning out of the Shadoor Sanders and Travis
Hunter era. They played well against Georgia Tech team that
has a very unique offensive approach in Georgia Tech last
Friday night, for some turnovers didn't necessarily capitalize on their takeaways.

Speaker 3 (56:09):
But what did you see on film week one for Colorado?

Speaker 4 (56:12):
Yeah, I mean a team that obviously, you know, took
advantage of some turnovers and then you know, maybe didn't
take advantage of them as much as as they could
have or wanted to. I think that game goes a
little differently if their points off turnovers a little bit better,
which we know is is a huge part of the game,
and you know, I think you saw some things and
I'm sure Coach Sanders will tell you the same thing,

(56:34):
similar to in our game, you saw some things that
were first game things, blunders and you know, those kinds
of things that just maybe not as crisp as as
you need to be, similar to the way we played,
you know, not as crisp as we needed to be,
not as detail oriented as we needed to be. And
I think similarly, you know, we're both in that position
where we'd like to improve from week one to week

(56:55):
two so that we can become as good as we can.
And you know, I think what you do see is,
you know, I alluded to it this morning in our
press conference.

Speaker 3 (57:03):
You know, you do see on the defensive side of.

Speaker 4 (57:05):
The ball a ton of speed and quickness and athleticism.
There is, you know, on on the offensive side, you know,
a ton of size up front, and I think there's
you know, they're kind of built to be a very
good big twelve team, just like they've been. And you know,
I think that's what you see on tape. You see,
you know, a good scheme on both sides of the ball.

(57:28):
And uh and like you said, you know, Georgia Tech's
a little different, and so watching that tape is you know,
unique as far as you know, trying to figure out
exactly what they'll do to us, you know when it
comes to the offensive side, and so you know, it'll
be interesting to see, you know, how how it lays
out on on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (57:46):
At one thing, think about what day of the week
we are we are playing throughout the year, but this
one is a Saturday of a couple in a row
on the weekend coming up for the Blue Hens.

Speaker 3 (57:55):
But you mentioned the speed and a guy like DJ McKinney,
who played eight hundred and forty naps last season for
Colorado returns makes it an interception against Georgia Tech.

Speaker 2 (58:05):
Artavius French at eighty tackles last season. He's a transfer
the recovered to fumbles against Georgia Tech. When you see
a team that has speed like that, how do you
what do you do anything different at practice to try
to replicate going up against something like that.

Speaker 3 (58:19):
For the offense? Yeah, you know, I mean there's nothing.
It's hard. I would try to have to replicate how
fast these guys would be making play.

Speaker 4 (58:28):
Yeah, I mean, I think the thing that would tell
you that, you know, is that we're trying our best
to get as fast as we can as a team
so that when we give each other looks, we're giving
each other looks as good as we can and as
fast as we can, as game like as we can.
I do think we practice really hard at the University
of Delaware. I think that our scout teams give us
a great look, and we do things to incentivize that

(58:52):
and make sure that we have the ability to have
great practices so that we can practice full speed because again,
similar to the thing that you can't prepare for, you
want to make sure that you're as game like as
you can be, especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in our
game week practice system. So you know, I think as
fast as we can go, as game speed as we

(59:12):
can go, we do attempt to. But other than that,
I mean, we just have to go, you know, be
as fundamental as we can, right. I mean, if you
if you're not as fast as somebody, you better be
in good a good body position on him. You better
have good athletic position, You better play with attention to detail,
you better do everything right so that you can, you know,
stack up with their athleticism and then we have to
do our best to put our our speed and our

(59:34):
athleticism on display when we have that opportunity too, because
we're not slow, you know, we just may not be.

Speaker 2 (59:40):
As fast if you maybe are at Colorado. And we
know Dion that's the way he played too, he was
fast back there. Let's talk about the offense side of
the football. No shitt or Sanders, but they've got a
heck of a talent at quarterback and Kiton Salter who
had a really good career at Liberty sixty eight total
touchdowns since twenty twenty three, and that's a bit number,
tied with Claye Clubnick of Clemson for the most in

(01:00:03):
all of college football in that span. And then Julian
Lewis Dion mentioned would probably get some reps as well.
He's the number two quarterback coming out of high school.
So he's a phenom that I think Colorado fans were
looking forward to seeing. Tell us a little bit about
their offense and does that change anything maybe having two
quarterbacks on the menu.

Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
I mean again, I think it's similar to the things
we always preach, right is you know, it's not as
much about I think they're both similar as far as
they're what they do. It's not like one's a pure
dropback kid and one's a triple option guy or something.
So the actual scheme is not going to change too much.
We're going to go ahead and play defense against either
of them in a similar fashion. But I think that,

(01:00:45):
you know, what you have to prepare for is being
really good. If you're not sure exactly what you're gonna get,
you better be really good at what you do. And
that's kind of what we have to do early in
the season in particular, is make sure that we're really
minding our own business, and can we sure up the
things that we needed to correct from week one? Can
we get better at the things that we did well

(01:01:05):
in week one, And then can we play you know,
eleven man defense and eleven man offense and do really
clean on special teams, because those are the things that
are gonna help you win on the road no matter
no matter who you're playing. You know, we could be playing,
you know, a team local, or we could be playing
a team of Conference USA, or we could be playing
a team on the road in an awesome environment like Boulder,
and so whatever that is, we have to play really clean.

(01:01:27):
We have to do the details. Well, we have to
play with each other, get hats on the ball, and
run into the football.

Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
And then lastly, coach I joked earlier that most people
will probably be listening on the radio in terms of
following the game, but if they wanted to tune in,
they could do so on Fox national televised game.

Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
Really impressive stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
I mean, for college football fans, people are gonna find
this game on accident because it's gonna be right there.
So you're gonna have just you're gonna have your Delaware faithful.
Certainly some Colorado fans, but just college football fans are
gonna be able to tune in and on Saturday on
a nationally televised game, they're gonna tune it on that
They're gonna rub their eyes a little bit and realize
it's not in Michigan and kind of figure out that, hey,

(01:02:09):
we are introducing you to the Delaware Blue Hens, and
for that FBS fan base that has not been familiar
with Delaware as an FCS team and are going to
see you maybe for the first time on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:02:21):
What do you want to have showcased for your program.

Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
That's a great question, and it's so it's kind of
prideful to even listen to you. I ask it that
that we get a chance to go, you know, kind
of showcase what a blue hen looks like and what
the University of Delaware has to to offer and to
shine on national TV. And what I do know is
that our guys are gonna play really hard, and we're
gonna finish plays.

Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
We're gonna finish this game.

Speaker 4 (01:02:47):
We're going to be, you know, hopefully living out the
things that we believe in the foundational aspects of our
program h and our core values and our standards and
the things that we you know, we preach over and
over again.

Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
Then we practice over and over again.

Speaker 4 (01:02:59):
And you know what I I would love for somebody
to see, as you know, a team that plays together,
believes in each other, loves each other, plays really freaking hard,
and then hopefully make some plays too. It'd be really
nice to go out there and put a great effort
out there, because I think we have so much to
offer at the University of Delaware, and we have so
much to offer in this community, in this state, and

(01:03:19):
the three h two is going to be you know,
hopefully on display and in an unbelievable environment on national
TV and get a chance to kind of open some
eyes of people across the country throughout the season, and
it certainly starts on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Well, coach very well said, always a great time with
you here at Clinic Kates. Thanks so much, appreciate you
all right, best of luck to you on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
And that was head coach Ryan Carty.
