Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Brady one more time. I'll look back on
all things nineties and two thousands, the movies, Asta, La Vista, Baby.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
The music, then me see that the awkwardness.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Is this chicken what I have?
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Or is this fish?
Speaker 1 (00:21):
I know it's tune of it.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
It says chicken.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
It's fish by the sea, It's fish. Here's your host
by Rosy. That's welcome, Welcome, welcome.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
We are back for the most nostalgilistic, which is not
a word, but it is now podcasts on the planet.
It is Brady one more time. I'm the Brady Parts.
And we have not one, but two dance here as well,
two Dans and a Brady.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
That is like a movie that's an eight seventy of
This Morning where three of the five people on it
we're Dan and now I'm in studio with another dance.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Yeah, they're taking over. Yes, so that is me.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
I'm Brady, and across from me is We'll go with
the Kickball King, a man who has some very interesting
things and conversations at brunch from the night before.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Do you want to talk about those that might be
better for a different podcast off air? Yeah, Only fans.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
The Only Fans podcast is where that will work anyways, dangerous,
dangerous San Ginsburg and our special guest today, the best
voice in all of podcasts radio and he's so deep
and strong it makes me feel wimpy when he When
he speaks, it's for higher it's hi.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
So if you like what you hear, socials, socials, yes,
ass on air, base on air, on air?
Speaker 2 (01:38):
How would you? How did the where did that come from?
What made you think of bass on air? It's because
of you'd like to play the bass.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Twenty years of radio means twenty years of other people
giving me nicknames. Bass stuck the most. Bass has paid
me the most. I love to hear it. I heard it.
I was walking down the hallway and I heard it.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
That's part is because Dan Leavey is here, but also
because the studios are not soundproof like they should be
so that everybody can hear everything all the time. So
welcome to the podcast, my friend, to see you.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
And by the way, my voice would bleed even if
it was soundproof. That noise canceling and bus on, I
cut right through all that. Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Of course I hit you on the side because we
had to do a podcast. Uh whole Colgan we know
passed away a couple of weeks ago. That was a
huge topic still kind of is, especially in the wrestling
world where you and I are very familiar with, and
it lived in for me pretty much my whole life
since I was eight years.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Old, and Whole was a stable for my people.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Okay, so let's jump into it, because we're going to
talk about the life and times of Whole Colgan, the character.
I don't want to get into Terry Boela or Boila,
thank you, I know his real name.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
I don't even know it, like I don't. I don't
want to dabbing.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Ka fabe, but no, I just want to talk about
what he meant to wrestling fans like you and me,
to pop culture in general.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
And I really just want to.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Stick to that because if you think about it, when
you when you say the word wrestling, WWEWWF, there's really
only one person that comes to mind, right.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Number one and number one with a bullet. And I
feel like if we're going to go back in time
during that era of the eighties and nineties that was
filled with like superhero type of personalities. You got your Jordan,
you got Mike Tyson, you had Hulk, Hogan. He was
beyond the sport. He was on Rocky, he was in
Gremlins too. I mean he would be at sporting events
(03:37):
and he would just rip his shirt off for no
reason and the crowd would go crazy. It was just him.
Everybody knew the you know, the twenty four inch pythons,
and he was just a larger than life personality who
broke the mold for the entire genre of wrestling, right
because before that it was it was really niche, and
it was it was territorial. It wasn't even like one company.
(03:58):
It was like the Nordon Side had their regions, south Side,
east side, And because Ohgan, they were able to make
one giant network, which is what we know today. So
everybody that's earning off that wrestling, the Rock, John Cena,
the Undertaker, it all starts and ends with Terry Blea. Yeah,
that's a great point.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
That's a great point that that is probably his biggest
legacy is turning this. When you were a wrestling fan,
you had to like be quiet about it because people
would make fun of you.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
I remember being in like elementary school and it wasn't cool, right. Yeah,
he made it cool. He made it mainstream. And he
at one point got so famous. It was kind of
like Jordan and for those that did not live in Chicago,
if you like Jordan and did not live in Chicago,
you were considered a fair weather fan. Hokogan was the same.
It's like, who's a very wrestler, Hokogan? Okay, who do
you really like? Yeah we all like him, Yeah, we
(04:44):
all like him. But if you know wrestling or like
the Ultimate Warrior, but we love Hogogan. So he was like,
you know, he was that gateway guy into what is this?
He was like a superhero. He was like a cartoon
character come to life. He saw these wrestling guys back
in his day. They're all kind of thattter more like
kind of more streets. They're like an average guy, kind
(05:04):
of the average guy, look right. They were like the jobbers,
like they say, just they had guys that were like
garbage men walking in and like getting thrown on top
of like tic TACs and getting lit on fire and
all kinds of stuff. And he came in six' nine
with the giant, music giant, arms ribbing his shirt, off
and every kid was, LIKE i want to be him
WHEN i grow, up, Right.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
AND i think what set him. Apart really was the
one thing that nobody really had at the. Time some,
did but not to that. Level it was his, charisma
the person out what wrestling is now in. Life wrestling
now is ninety percent personality and ten percent, wrestlings and
back then it was ninety nine point five, wrestling and
the charisma was just.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Him he was it?
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Right and you, SAID i like the word you, said
too recognizable because if you put a picture Of Hull,
colgan you walked into the street To, chicago and you,
know nineteen eighty, seven youdn't have to see one wrestling
event or match in your, life you.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Do you knew who the Hell Hull colgan. Was you
walk in the street with The Brooklyn brawler and everyone, was,
actually what that?
Speaker 2 (06:00):
IS i want to get him into The hall Of.
Fame dance like dangerous? Dances are you.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Along for the? RIDE i have never? Been you, Know
i've Never you can appreciate, It you can understand the
parody Of Hul cogan and a wrestler you've never. Heard,
Well i'm curious did you.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Go are you guys old enough to remember watching wrestling
Pre Hulk hogan and what that was?
Speaker 1 (06:23):
LIKE I i would. SAY i, REMEMBER i THINK i
was like four or five when my older brothers, said
let's watch. Wrestling this Guy's Hulk hogan's right. Now we watched,
him AND i remember like being just in awe of.
Him so BEFORE i THINK i watched tapes. Afterwards it's
almost like us right now watching video of Like DOCTOR
J like it wasn't a round for. Him but now
THAT i, watch it's pretty. Good but you can see
(06:46):
what wrestling was and how it was like kind of
like they were they built their model After andre The.
Giant it was like everybody's got these, territories and Then
andre The giant was this one. Guy she was just, like,
hey we saw this guy that's like this, big and
he would go to different territories and they would all
make money off of, them and their main guy in
their territory would like lose To andre would get some
(07:06):
licks in and they would get like it was an.
Attraction it was.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
It it was the circus coming to your, town and
that circus was on the wonder of the.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
World and Then hulkgan came along and it was like
we no longer got to worry just About. Andre this,
Dude hulkogan has the, personality he's got the masique he
looks and he just looked like a movie. Star he
walked and he was In Rocky so that usshered everybody
else that he was In rocky, three and it was
just like it was like a larger than the.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Presence hulkamania came out and it really changed the business
because there wasn't A WrestleMania. First, no people don't realize
it Was huolkamania Created. WrestleMania, yes and once you Have,
WrestleMania now we're on a national. Platform we've got people
going to closed circuits to watch pay per views because
there was no pay per view at the time or
it was very hard to.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Do they went from everybody gathering at the vfwsis, guys
now they're selling out ninety three thousand seed stadiums at
the In detroit and all over the. COUNTRY i, Mean
hogan sold Out Madison Square garden three times and that
was like wrestling is doing.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
What, yeah he made a lot of. Money he made
a lot Of he made a lot of money in the.
Eighties he made a lot of money in the, nineties
which we'll talk about here in a. Second BUT i
want to go back to because you kept saying he
was like a real life. Superhero, yes and at that,
time if you think about it as, kids we were
like the perfect age for. It we had, superheroes we Had,
superman we Had, batman we had, cartoons, uh you, know G, I, Joe.
(08:27):
Transformers but this was a real human being and this
character was in real.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Life and LIKE i, said it followed. Suit Mike tyson
was also of this superhuman, level And Michael jordan was
of that superhuman. Level and we were in that time
where if you were big in your, sport you just
had this marketability and this. Aura and like you, said
wrestling was such a. Niche it's like WHAT ufc is right.
NOW ufc has yet to have that Whole cogan experience
(08:54):
where everyone's, LIKE i want to be everything with. Girls,
yeah that's the. Guy And hogan shattered all of. It
he was so good that other people were competing to
try to take away the money he started. Making so for,
us LIKE i, said WHEN i was six or seven
years old and you heard that, music you, know the
Real american would come on and he would come in
and rip it his shirt off and doing the thing
to the. Crowd you're, like this is gonna be. Amazing
(09:17):
and he even did that thing in the ring where
for the first ten minutes he gets his butt cacked
and in the end he just he hole gets, Out
he gets all hulked up and, yeah he gets all
gets all like this and then he. Destroys everybody wins the,
match does some, cheering it gets, out and you you
got your money's, worth and it was.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Wrestling it was perfect for us because we were young
and pretty stupid and like the formula for his.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Matches it was.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
The same thing for eight, years but we still got
excited about it every single.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Time and everybody that knocks him for his wrestling and
always like he doesn't, wrestle like you didn't have to.
Wrestle he was a. Superhero, Yeah Steve austin had one
move and middle fingers beer and he did the. Starter. Yeah,
yeah so the same with like as long AS i see,
him as long AS i hear the, music and IF
i went to our. SHOWS i grew up In connectic
Kid ye for a good chunk of my, life and
(10:05):
they had a lot of house shows that were, there
so you could see these guys and you would just
SEE hogi come out and he was like a. Building
the guy was just humendously, strong, tall that blonde, hair
that beach blonde bleached blonde, hair and you're just, like
what AM i? Seeing? What what an aura of a
person That i've seen on? Television now here he is
and he knew how to made the charismal. Work he
(10:26):
knew how to get the crown of. All he was
good with the. Kids it was just a formula for.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Everybody, dan do you know what the whole comanac commandments?
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Are there are commandments? There sure are are there? Ten,
nope there's only.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Three, well there was a fourth one added later on
in the early, NINETIES i, Believe but it was it was,
traditionally it's.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Honored with thy mother and.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Father thou shalt not worship false. Idols, no definitely. Not he.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Was he, Was, YEAH i thought you were gonna say
thou shall not? Murder AND i was, like oh that
that didn't say somebody at some Point, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
So, it's, uh it's sair. Prayers that makes. Sense, sure
that's WHAT i would do IF i saw him coming at.
Me so eat your. Vitamins. Interesting the training.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Was the training one and the fourth, one believe in yourself.
Brother that one came everybody's brother and everybody's, well, yeah
everybody started using that in the business because he started.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
That.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
YEAH i mean you know the, promos, Right, dan What
you're gonna? Do, yeah, OKAY i mean that's what you
guys covered. It BUT i mean he transcended wrestling. OBVIOUSLY i,
mean if if you asked, me as someone who has
never followed, wrestling, like what's the first THING i would
think of when you mentioned professional wrestling from my? Childhood
it is Hul colgan like, period, RIGHT i, mean you,
(11:49):
know and he was in pop, cult but he was in.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Movies but he was also big enough for you to
even know What you're gonna?
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Do.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Right that slogan alone is so big that the non
wrestling followers exactly who you're talking about without saying the.
Name that is icon on another. Level so safe to
say you as a young you, Know, dan impressionable, man very? Impressionable?
Yes were you a whole? Comaniac? Oh? God?
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Yes? Yeah how Hard how hardcore were? You did you
you know what was all this? Stuff but did you
have merch did?
Speaker 1 (12:17):
You? Oh we all had. Merchandise we all HAVE t,
shirts we all have the fake. BELTS i had the
wrestling FIGURES L L j, one, yes the original. ONES
i mean that's HOW i got into broadcasting BECAUSE i
would just spend my time being mean geno girl and
Interviewing Whole. Cogan and THEN i Was Howard figel doing
the public address announcing FOR i like that more than the.
WRESTLING i was, LIKE i could announce, everybody this is
(12:39):
this is WHAT i wanted to. DO i wish there
was iPhones back then to record this is a six
year old. YOU i was, Thinking i'm so glad there
wasn't any. iPhones i don't ever want to see that
to hear that. Again but that WAS i, mean it
got so far Into whole coging that you got into, wrestling,
yes and then it was just more like EVEN i was, like,
oh of course you Like Whole, cogan but who do
you really?
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Like?
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Right and then you took the d dive in the
n W a and, yeah all The Ric flair and
all the all those guys And ricky The, Dragon steamboat
And Macho man And. Snak, yeah and you were in
trench and then when you did see and you're, like,
oh he's gonna.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Win, yeah you just knew he was. Right you got
you got smartened into how this is gonna be so?
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Good you know that the marketing Was i'm gonna like
my favorite. Guy he's probably gonna, lose But hogan's gonna.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Companies i'll never forget the day After WrestleMania, nine that's the,
one the first one In, vegas and for the reason
was we were like super, broke so we couldn't get
the pay per view the night, before SO i had to,
LIKE i was, LIKE i gotta wait to Ask clint
because he got all the he had the hot. BOX
i have to go to can't wait to Ask clint
what happened in the main event last, night which wasn't.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Hold you didn't watch The fuzzy channel like we all, no,
no put it on and then you like.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
IT i was watching something THAT i know what you're talking,
about but we're. Different we were Watching fuzzy a couple
of SO i get to school And. Kong it wasn't
a part of the main, Event so why WOULD i
Think Hull colgan would be the? Champion And clint's, like oh,
Yeah Huk coogan win the, Championship And i'm, like in seventh, Grade, like,
what how did that? Happen he just figured out a
(14:09):
way AND i think it Was vince McMahon at the. Time,
really we got to keep this, guy you, Know ho
with the belt because he makes us the most, money
which at the end of the, day that's all it's,
about and how much money you can.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Draw and then in the nineties when he fell out
of favor WITH, wwe and then The attitude era came
along and he went TO, wcw which was starting to,
fail and then he brought. It he turned a bad,
guy went TO, nWo which created a whole nother genre
of wrestling for people that even some people think that
THE nWo is the greatest thing that ever happened wrestling
all because he turned heel for.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
That biggest hel, turn biggest heel turn ever of all,
time but bit bigger Than John cena this.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Year, yeah all good far ood crush. Kids, yeah that crushed.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Childhood it was so bad When Hulk hogan turned into
a bad. Guy the night of that that, happened people
were throwing things like at him in the. Ring you
could just see a sea of like cups and just
trash and. Garbage that's how that's how big of a
deal he was because he was so beloved that this
is our this is our hero.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Week this is the one we. Wanted what are you?
Doing why would you turn to the dark? Side so
there was a lot.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
There so was this a plot line because he had
fallen out of favor with them or was this just a?
Speaker 1 (15:21):
TURN i THINK i think it was.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
A turn he needed because at the time in W
cw his his good guy run because they tried to
emulate what he was doing in the. Nineties BUT i
think it's twofold because what happened was these kids in
the eighties that grew up idolizing. Him now they're no
longer saying their prayers into their, redans they're doing bad,
things they're lighting up cigarettes In but it was ALSO.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
I THINK i heard stories that he wanted to go
heel IN wwe to extend his, character But vince didn't want.
It he's, LIKE i don't want to tarnish what that.
Is and then he fell out OF, wwe and then
he went to W cw and he's, like, HEY i
got this, idea and they're, like we'll try. Anything they were.
DOING wcw was like we're Out west Of. Wrestling, yeah
and it was very. CHEESY i remember before THE Nwol
(16:01):
jimmick ye is all get out and then THE nWo
came out and it was, cool it was. Awesome gold
and Then goldberg came. OUT i was, like that's another cultry. Guy,
yeah another perfect, guy another cartoon, character like of a.
Guy so he just constantly brought like he's musty, television
even in his sixties and. Seventies when he got in
the rig for like to do a promo For, WrestleMania,
(16:22):
yeah he was doing.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
It, yeah everybody got. Excited towards the, end they. Didn't
he started to get food turns. In but you're, right
SO i compared To Tom, Brady and this is why
somehow always say, yeah So Tom brady really had.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
The Brady one more time, PODCAST i just want to
Mention tom uh he.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Had he had Two hall Of fame careers in my,
Opinion Tom, brady he had the first run with The
patriots and then the second run with The patriots and
one and then one In Tampa.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Bay so Whole colgan kind of had Two hall Of fame.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Careers first with THE WWE wwf in the eighties early,
nineties ships over TO wcw and changes the entire.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
LANDSCAPE i would say the Whole cogan has never really
he hadn't. RELEASED i, mean this is a guy that
had like eight back, surgeries next, surgeries. Hips all these
wrestlers are like in real, life they're. Done so the
fact that he actually lived to his seventies outlived like
ninety five percent of, wrestlers and the life that they,
lived and three hundred and sixty five days a year
(17:17):
on the, road not just the, role but To japan
and back and just you, know only three days a.
YEAR i think they're not. Wrestling and If vince McMahon
could have put those the rest of history on, there
he would. Have and the fact that he made it
to where he, is the, surgeries the, injuries and just kept.
Wrestling it kept coming out of these events and even
like Like Ric, flair those guys are in their, seventies
(17:38):
like they need one more, match it's in. Them so
the resurgence of all the fact that he died EVEN
i was, like maybe it's a, Gimmick maybe he'll come
back to. Wrestle they've done that gimmick.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Before vince McMahon's car blew up and then they just
threw it and then they just forgot about.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
THAT i never did a whole funeral percent that no
one's none of. Percent but there was one.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Funeral it was, uh it was a big show's dad
and then The big Boss man came rolling up and
during the middle of the, wake he took the casket
and drove.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Away so, stupid and we loved, it loved. It it
just became a card. Tooon, yeah it became From Holk.
Hogan and again WHEN i was a, kid it was
just we were In, connecticut we followed, him and it
was just we just all wanted to be and we
saw a. Superhero we saw a guy that came and
saved the. Day and they also wrestling did a pretty
good job of like back in the day we were
(18:29):
at war with Like, iran so they had The Iron
chic and they partnered it up and his tactic partner
was A russian and he came out to Real. American
so they really played on The patriots trying to mirror
what was going on in society. World in, society that's
what they. Had two To er actually really was, yeah
girls gone wild grungey instead of like.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Poppy, yeah colorful and stuff like, that because the world
was that at the.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Time.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Yeah another thing you, SAID i, like is the gateway,
right Because Hulk hogan brought us in also a whole comaniac,
here but then you discovered there's a whole new. World
there's different. Organizations, yes how about. You BUT i searched
out as much wrestling as possible as a. KID i
could not get. Enough event midnight on A Saturday.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
Saturday night's made. Event we didn't know what it was coming,
on but it came.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
On it just came on randomly Because Saturday Night's Saturday
live was like break.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
UP i was always disappointed Here Saturday Night live was.
ON i was, like, man where's the? Wrestling but there
was also there was these weird like like underground magazines
that had articles of. Wrestlers he never. Heard they had
a ranking of, Wrestlers warrior number. SEVEN i would always
be so, mad AND i remember being Like WrestleMania six
(19:36):
When hogan And Ultimate warrior were. WRESTLING i remember that
was like the last TIME i was so serious about.
IT i just stayed in the corner watching. It you're,
nervous so NERVOUS i was at the. Time The warrior
was like he was my new. Guy yeah he. Was
WHEN i was, following we were ready to move. On
but that when get, LOST i was LIKE i kind
of feel LIKE i turned on that GUY i. Love,
(19:57):
NO i. WASN'T i was like, relieved like finally The
warrior got. It i'm LIKE i really liked.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
TOO i kind of love the way that we just
wanted more and more and couldn't get all that we
wanted as opposed to. Nowadays imagine imagine having YouTube like as,
kids LIKE i would never leave the house BECAUSE i
would just be like, searching like for wrestling.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Events, well like you, said when we would uh when
the pay per views were, OVER i think only knew
one person would actually order. It, yeah BUT i remember
when the rent when they were, done like maybe three
or four months, later you could rent the video of
the actual right. Event, yeah go to The blockbuster and
all your friends would come, over and because we were
all watching If fuzzy were, Like so that's what that looked.
LIKE i don't know how we did.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
It we barely had food on the, table but for
some reason we ordered those, papers figured out a way
to order.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Those we're not as invested in.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Wrestling, yeah WELL i had parents that were very socially.
Irresponsible but we'll talk about that the other.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
Day even that, video the high, quality the high quality
video you were watching months, later like generation now would
call that, fuzzy like the high quality one was, like,
no it looks like when you when you see like
sports clips from like a game in ninety, five and you're,
like this was how it looked when we watched it
at the, time.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Like twenty fifteen. Ten now you Watch squill And neo,
highlights you're, like was it THAT i was watching the, Answers,
yes but we thought it was. Good it's like Video
it's like video.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Games like how excited were we When supernintendo came and
then n sixty Four and now, look.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
My son is always asking me because he PLAYS nba
Two k's like dad didn't always look as, Cool, mike
let me show you.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
What wait LIKE nba, jam we, thought show you.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
What Larry Bird Versus MICHAEL i love that, game Like
Stick figures With Super mario is the. Rest, yeah this
is not what you what you have.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Today Super mario was in every game at that point
that was good, marketing and In Bird Versus jordan were
there only like three things you could. Do, yes it
was a one on one, game the three point, contest
and then dunk.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
Contest, yeah it was all the. Same dunk. Contest it
was a three to sixty from going right to left
and if you did, that you.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
Won, yeah that's. It And bird ain't gonna, dunk, no, no.
No Uh so into the, nineties we get THAT nWo.
Run THEN wcw goes.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Away by the, way that that nineties run Feature Dennis,
Rodman Shaquille, O'del Karl, malone W. CW i mean those
guys WERE i, mean if it wasn't for Whole, cogan
it WAS i think it Was hogan And Karl malone
Versus Dennis rodman AND i want to Say Diamond Dallas Page, like,
yeah it's still centered Around Hule cogan And rodman left
THE Nba finals to come and wrestle and then go
(22:37):
back down that. Crazy, yes they just wanted to be
a part of that that. Crazy we're gonna give you
guys a steel, chair you get smashed in a row
again and they go back To utah and and win the.
Final that's, right that's. Right what would you?
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Say what would you say is your favorite Whole cogan,
match and then what would you say was his most important,
match because it could be the.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Same most important is always gonna be The andre The
giant slamming in the ninety three Thousand Pontiac WrestleMania. Three
that was the first time anybody Saw andre The giant
get his body. Slammed and he won the, title or
he had the, title but he Was it was like
the torch. Passed it was no longer Just andre the the.
Attraction it was Now. Cogan it wasn't a great, match,
(23:19):
no but it was an important and that when you
watched like endless, documentaries we realized That andrea is being
held up by like the. Ropes he could barely four
bottles of wine before he got to the. Rooms you
wouldn't even Tell cogan he was gonna win the. Match
he was LIKE i would say as a, KID i
Remember Saturay night's made event With Macho man was on
his knees and it WAS i forgot the TWO i
(23:40):
think it was The. BUSHWAGGERS i forgot it was pulling him,
up but the hoggy Talk man smashed the guitar over
his head And Miss elisabeth ran to the dressing. Room
we thought she abandoned him and she Grabbed Whole. Cogan
hogan came, out he was, like what's going on? That
it was happening as a, Kid you're, like, oh she
Ground Hole and then they became.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
And then he had the lust in his eyes For
elizabeth and then they. Turned it came that moment when
she Got Whole.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
COVID i was like. THAT i was like a, Moment you're,
like oh, man that's the. SUPERHERO i. Remember that's a good.
One that's a going for.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Me it's it's crazy BECAUSE i was like out of
wrestling for a little bit BECAUSE i discovered, girls and,
uh what brought me?
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Back you'll find our way. Out.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Uh when he came back As Hollywood hogan to W
w and he had That icon Versus icon match With
The rock that was awesome At WrestleMania.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
Seventeen that was my. FAVORITE i, ALSO i think it
WAS i forgot Which WrestleMania was by Now there's been so,
many but the one where we're opened With hogan and
Then Stole cold and then The rock and the three
of them all do like their music and. GIMMICKS i was,
like that was at. THIRTY i was there In New.
Orleans that was full. Circle that was. Awesome, yeah my
favorite moment BECAUSE i got to meet these. Guys, yes
now that we're in radio and we've done some. THINGS
(24:55):

that got. Everybody AND i remember him coming. In it
was six months Before, hogett know his best came out ON.
Tv him And, brooke his, wife the, son they were.
Nick they were all there AND i remember him JUST
i remember for the show THAT i was, ON i
had to like bodyguard for these. Guys it was the weirdest.
THING i was, like it did turn still AND i
(25:15):
was bigger than a lot of. Them are, like, hey
go get a hold of these downstairs at his limo
AND i remember like him getting out and he just
had these giant. Arms is. It what's? Up? Brother i'm,
like oh my, god oh my, god oh my, god

whole time we were going. UPSTAIRS i was, like, YEAH

Speaker 2 (25:32):
God, Right and you don't want to be like to
come across like too big of a fan, too especially
because you're working the only time THAT i had an
interaction with him was Before. WrestleMania he was doing a
meet and, greet WHICH i didn't. Know we just kind
of walked by it and people had been standing in
line for like twenty four. Hours so me and my
sister were, like this is, Happening this is. Happening it
was like two hundred bucks or something stupid to take
(25:54):
a picture with.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Him BUT i finally get in.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Line waited this whole, time And i'm with other super mega,
fans AND i THINK i told this story on your
podcast a couple of months. AGO i looked At Whole
cogan and he had the glasses on the whole, gimmick
AND i, SAID i just want to thank, you, uh
because there's parts of my life WHERE i did not
have a father, figure and you were. It he takes
off his, glasses he looks me in the eyes and he,
(26:16):
goes that was, deep, brother.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
And then we did the handshake and then he took a.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
PICTURE i JUST i DIDN'T I i had no idea
WHAT i was gonna, say because did FIRST i didn't
KNOW i was going to meet, him SO i, had,
like you, know twenty five thirty minutes to think of
SOMETHING i just, LIKE i want to say something that's
going to make him feel.
