Did you do that when you're a kid just to
be funny? Oh yeah, yeah, that was like you'd say,
pardon me.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Do you have any whatever great place in fact that
fits right into the top.

So I'm Brady part of the Brady one More Time
Podcast and with me as.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Always is my partner crime the kick, Paul King.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
What a guy that is so popular in our group
text that we change all of our plans just for him,
I mean jokes aside.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
I was actually very touched by that.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, they guys have they had a whole plan to
go out on a boat on a day that I
couldn't do and the whole date changed.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Because Yeah, I was very honored. You can have you
missed the boat day. So it's not the same without
without You.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Can't spell boat without d A No, wait, actually you can.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
The one and only dangerous Dan Ginzberg is here, everybody.
What is today's topic is fun and it's it's phrases
that aren't said anymore. And I mean you could probably
you could do this topic like five years ago. Probably, Yeah,
you know what I mean because the lingo. I spent
some time and you have a you have a nephew,
I do. I spent some amies. I spent some time

(01:54):
with my youngest nephew over the holidays. And the words
that were coming out of this young man's mouth he's twelve. Yep,
what what are you saying? I have no clue what
he was talking about.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
And what's funny is you'll be saying those same words
in like six months and then they'll be looking at
you like you're this old loser okay, boomer, Yeah, but no,
we're gonna do it.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
We're gonna do I think we're Would you call this like,
I don't think there's a specific era. I think this
is just in general phrases that we wouldn't say in
twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, Well, you know what's funny is you said this
to me and have you ever played the New York
Times connections where you have to group four things together?

Speaker 1 (02:31):
He said this to me.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
And then a couple of days ago, this past on
June tenth, so that would have been this past Tuesday.
One of the categories was eighties slang. Oh I missed
that day and want to know what the four were.
You can take any guesses.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Psych Yeah, I'm gonna go ooh that's cold. Oh no,
because it's only one word. Close, okay, you're close. Chill, Chill, okay,
chill PSI as if because it's only one word, a
radical radical and word never a word you still hear
word word is words is tested time.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
It's everlasting. Yeah, it used to.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Be like like more emphasis on the word word, it'd
be like word.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Now it's just like word. I feel like you did
a hand thing you did the word word up. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Oh, this is going to be an embarrassing word. I'm
gonna jump into this list because I like this list
and you probably took a peek at it. Let's see,
I'm just gonna rapid fire here. See if you've ever
used these? Here's a quarter call somebody?

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Yeah remember that? Yeah? Because you were they a quarter?
I guess.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yeah, Well there were different Sometimes there were like thirty
five cents and you had to put in like a
quarter and a dime or a quarter in two nickels
the worst.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, uh, I got to print the directions. Give me
a sec. You would not say that. Nobody's printing anything.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Maps.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah, you have pages. Remember if you missed your turn,
you were just screwed. Yeah, and how do I get back?
You just have to basically backtrack? Does anybody know oh
man on that in that realm? Did you have the
original GPS that didn't come with the car? Or on
your phone?

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Tom Tom? Remember Tom Tom?

Speaker 3 (04:09):
And I had this like a sandbag thing that you
put on the to have it like stay on the
dashboard and then you'd clip it in MM.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yeah, I think I remember that. But it had map
data from whenever you bought it. And so then if
like they.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Built a new road or closed the road, we are
now driving off of a bridge. Yeah you remember that
the office where following the GPS and it takes him
straight into the lake.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Oh that's what it was like.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
I feel like before GPS it got it got some
there's some heated arguments that happened in the car between
between couples. Yeah, let's see, how about this one. Anyone
seed anyone seen the cordless phone, because cordless phones were
a thing. Yeah, now there everything Now everything's a cordless
But that was when you had when you didn't have
a cordless phone, and then you went to cordless phone

(04:55):
in the house. The landline that was like that was
a big upgrade.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Do you remember the landlines with the long cords?

Speaker 3 (05:01):
And if I'm like a big pacer whenever I'm on
the phone, I'm pacing around the room. Not a pacer
like the Indiana pacers had a big win last night.
But I digress walking your pacer. So you got the
long cord, you could take that from one side of
the house to the other, but it would get twisted
and then you go and hang it up, and the
cord would just be like in knots from all the
movement you did while you were.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
On the phone. You leave it, Yeah, you would leave it,
and then you.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Had cordless and you could just go anywhere.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Well until if you went outside too far.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
The good thing about the long cord though, you could
like take that phone conversation with you into the bathroom
if you private, and you could use it to play
jump rope with your friends as well. Do that up
your button around the corner you, I believe, as the
rhyme goes, kids, up your butt in around north corner
and out your balls if you have any Did you

(05:48):
add that? I didn't remember that part? Now, this must
have been a Massachusetts.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Yeah, that one. That one didn't take it last apparently up.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Your butt around the corner and out your balls if
you have any.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
No, no, never ever in my life have I heard
the second part of that.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Uh psych psych.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Psike that had that that had a resurgence, I want
to say, like five six years ago, came back for
a minute.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah, if you hear these, some of these comeback as
like throwbacks.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
We'll take the non smoking section please.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
I'm glad that one away. I'm glad it's not a choice.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
You went to a restaurant out to eat for the
young for the young ones here, and you had to
choose if you wanted to sit in the smoking section
or the non smoking section.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
When we were little kids, and this changed when we
were pretty young, but there were there was a smoking
section of the plane and there was a non smoking section.
When you see it's I would imagine that kids now
are like, why the hell is there a no smoking
light on the plane?

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Isn't that obvious? It didn't used to be that way.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Like there were like fifteen rows of smoking and then
like fifteen rows of non smoking that we're still breathing
in all the smoke.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
I don't know if you grew up with a smoker
in your Okay, so my stepdad did. Okay, fifteen rows
ain't gonna stop you from smell like smoke exactly.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
You're a plane for three hours at a time. Sure,
Oh that's wild. Vegas is like the last relic of that. Now,
you know, you go to Vegas Casino and you come
home and you're and you open up your suitcase and
the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Smells like sis and your longs hurt. Yeah, let's see
I was going to do get off the phone. I
need to use the internet. That's a good one. Yeah,
I couldn't do both at the same time. I mean
about this a little bit in the Things That Don't
Exist episode, But yeah, I mean that would My family
had to get a second phone line at some point
because of you, when you got four people and you

(07:36):
need to make phone calls and you need to use
the internet. Yeah, and what we're using the internet for
in those days, dan research? Yep, we'll leave it at that.
How about talk to the hand? Yeah, that's not it's
pure nineties that one is. This isn't on here, but
I was top of my list. I don't know if
on your list you got it. What about talk to
the hand because the ears ain't listening? No, we never
that was. You didn't get this. You didn't have the

(07:57):
second part of that one. That one didn't make it.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
We had.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
We just made fun of people that did the second
part because talk to the hand was enough, because it
was like, it's you got you got attitude, you like
talk to the hand, talk to the hand. And I
think you did think you did a talk to the
hand like you did a wind up like talk to
the hand. In that same line, talk to the hand?
How about all that in the bag of chips?

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Had that one as well? Yeah, yeah, she's almost all that.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Ye use that as like a teenager to talk about
like a hot girl, she's all that in the bag
of chips.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Can I tell you something I never said that I
heard heard often.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
I feel like it was more something we said sarcastically.
I don't think a lot of these were ones that
like were always sort of half sarcastic, like you know
what I'm saying, Like they're all like kind of poking
fun at yourself, but kind of not.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
You were going to do something with your loser.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
And then we had welcome to Loserville, population one you
why why did you do all that?

Speaker 1 (08:53):
I might have been a band camp? Well, where do
you want to go here? Welcome to us, population one you? Wow?

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Yeah, that that that definitely happened that band camp.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Uh suck, it was big of course. W W you
made that popular?

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
I feel like they still hear that sometimes. But what's
the four to one one?

Speaker 1 (09:15):
So good? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (09:16):
That means information?

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Kids?

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Yes, Uh, when you refer to your flip flops as thongs,
did you ever do that?

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Yes, okay, I had a couple from clueless okay, as
if obviously and then whatever really kind of I feel
like took off from clueless and then and then I
feel like nineties it was whatever, and then maybe toward
late nineties early two thousands it got abbreeved to what ebs,
what evs yo.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
I still say that I need to stop no, and
you know what the thing is with me in some
of these what ebbs and av a V I do
a lot and I realized sometimes that I should these
are the types of phrases that shouldn't be in professional emails.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
What they are? I do it too. I mean I
think some of it. It it came.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
I think a lot of these shorthand, the ones that
we're talking about that are shorthand ones that are like,
you know, abbreviations for things. I feel like they made
a comeback because of texting. I think when tech, when
we all got cell phones and texting blew up, and
you're it's easier to type obv than to add the
other four five?

Speaker 1 (10:21):
What right?

Speaker 3 (10:22):
We had no time for that? Be kind rewind yep,
that's VCR tapes listeners.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
You have to rewind your Blockbuster video because you would
get charged. They charged you, didn't they Yeah, they charged
you if you didn't rewind it.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Yeah, I think they did.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
And then I remember there was because we had so
many of these VCR tapes that we had to get
through that our family actually had a rewinder so you
can remember the de Yeah, you could be rewinding one
while you watched another.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
The technology those days.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
Would you get what would you guess how long it
would take to rewind a two hour movie on.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
A like on a VCR.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Yeah, uh, it could be more than like three minutes.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
I was going to say like three to five minutes maybe,
and we'd have the patience to do that.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yeah, and we couldn't do it right after we're done
and then we get charged.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Crazy.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Yeah, well, I think the rewinder was probably more helpful
when you suddenly when you realized you had to return
like ten movies that day because they were going to
all be overdue. Then you didn't want to sit there
and like, you know, the rewinder did it in maybe
one minute.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
So one I never used, but you heard some some
circles was awesome sauce.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
Awesome sauce, that's comeback. It has Yeah, why, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Tell them no please? Or cool beans that's another one.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Beans, I mean sometimes too, I think they're but I
think that's being used in reference to like an Andy
Samberg movie, because there was an Andy Samberg movie that
used it in again comedy Starcastic, right, but yep, but yeah,
I remember there was somebody in high school that would
definitely she was on the cheering squad and cool Beans
was that was like all she said, Hey, can you
check your pager? Ah, that's a good one.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Did you want a pager? I never did. My dad
had one as a doctor, like he had one for
when he was on call. Yeah, of course.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
And it was such an efficient system. You'd get a
little little message with a phone number. Then you had
to call the phone number to find out what they needed,
and then it was nothing.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
But but there weren't cell phones. I mean, that was
the way to get a hold of someone when they
were anywhere or god forbid. It was like a serious
issue by the time from front pager to emergency room.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Yeah, it could it could be a.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
Oh how about this, I'm gonna star six nine year
ass because star six.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Nine that was to get the phone number like that
was caller ID before there was caller ID, right.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
I think if I could be wrong, somebody called you,
you didn't know who it was, and like maybe they
like didn't leave a message, or they pranked you, pranked you.
You could hit Star six', nine which is just a
funny number of, combination and it would CALL i would
call them back or were.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
They give them back or did it give them the
number THAT'S i.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
FORGET i MEAN i don't REALLY i don't really use
The star six nine.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Option often it did it redials the last number that's,
you and then like, hell but there was All, yeah
there was Also star six, seven which if you Dialed
star six seven and then someone's phone number if they
had CALLER.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Id it wouldn't show your your.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Number you can technically still do, That like IF i
went to call you right now on my cell phone
AND i, BOUGHT i pulled up your, number but THEN
i put A star six seven in front of. It
when my my call came into, you it would shows
like don unavailable numbers on.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
Register you gotta be you gotta be. Doing you gotta
be some.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Shady if You're star six, seven you're definitely into some shady.
Things how about when the phone rings and everybody in
the house, Screams i'll get. It because there was only
one phone and there's a lot of, you and it
wasn't a personal, phone it was the family. Phone so
it was like a. Race that's a great one because you,
know maybe you wanted.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
You you were expecting like a cute, girl you were
hoping we're. Calling it was.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Calling there's like nothing more embarrassing than like your mom
answering the. Phone, uh this Didn't this definitely did not.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Age.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Well did you ever Play smear The queer was the
name of the? Game, NO i feel like it was
just a just a violent just either throwing like dodgeballs
at a kid or like like really like just tackling.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Them.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Wow we were very problematic in those. Days oh call
me after nine when the minutes are. Free oh that's,
right because we paid for our minutes.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Unlimited, yeah you'd get like two hundred minutes during the.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
Day at night it was it was fights and weekends were. Free.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Wow, yeah you have to save those conversations for a.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Night that was.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Later that was after we had cell, phones, Right, yeah the.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Unlimited thing was like that was next level for. Us,
yeah like WHAT i could talk for as. Much the
first was.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Like unlimited uh incoming or unlimited incoming, calls and so
like if if you were IF i was calling you
on your, landline, YEAH i would call you And i'd be, Like, Yo,
Brady i'm going to hang. Up call me, back because
then you're calling on the, landline so you're not paying
much And i'm not using cell phone minute.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
