Speaker 1 (00:00):
Number forty. This is Brady one More Time. I'll look
back on all things nineties and two thousands, the movies, Stiffler,
get all, I am getting off. Just listen to the
two of you guys. The music and the winner is
Hoody and the Blow the awkwardness, got it out, Get
(00:24):
out of here. Here's your host, Brady Broski. Welcome, Welcome,
Welcome to another episode of the nineties and two thousands
deep diving podcast known as the Brady One More Time Podcast.
I am the Brady part. I'm your host, heard around
the country on amazing I heart radio stations like Kiss
(00:44):
ninety five to seven in Hartford, Connecticut, Classic Z one
hundred and Portland Organ also Classic, and how about one
to six point one Kiss. I've had Dallas fort Worth.
Sure that one's great. I've never listened all great. And
I'm saying this as we speak on World Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Day that is today, Happy World Radio. I got you
a very expensive gift. Well, what'd you get me?
Speaker 1 (01:05):
First off? I got you some Star Wars. Okay, I'm
going to return what I got you then because the
value is really out of line. Did you get me
the same thing that you got me at our Palatine's
Day party, which was a wild berry very ghetto bag
of ziploc baggie of skittles that look like they came from.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Wildberry Skittles. I don't know, I don't I hope this
isn't a controversial and unpopular opinion wildberry skittles unpopular opinions
that I hope is not actually unpopular. Wildberry skittles are
the best skittles there may be the only good skittles.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Honestly, get out of here, Get out of the studio. How
dare you? I like all I love tasting the rainbow.
Yeah that's the idea. Yeah. Uh, you know today's podcast
is not about fashion, and fortunately what the fashion episode's
going to? Wait? I got all dressed up again. You
did get a haircut? I did for this.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
I I'm gonna venmo request you for the money I
just spent to look good for the fashion episode.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Uh. This is my fan, fellow radio enthusiastic peal King,
a guy who who left said Palatine dinner party this
past weekend because you had to go to and you
didn't want to be late for anti quote Yeah, a
singles hot tub party.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Uh, that wasn't exactly the name of it. It was
a it was a Valentine, It was an anti Valentine's party.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
And it was the whole theme of it was you
gollaery and chilling. The hot tub that was part of it. Okay,
we did I know the hot I got the text
the next morning about it. The hot tub capacity was
nine according to the sign on the wall. And how
many people did you make? Thirty in there? I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
I won't say the name of my friend so that
she doesn't get in trouble with her condo building.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
But it was a good time.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
And now apparently the hot tub is closed for renovations,
so I don't know what we did.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Do it? How convenient? Yeah, Dan Ginsburg dangerous dant is
here ready. Instead, we're going to talk about a great
topic because it's uh, it's topic coal right now. After
this past week we saw and I don't think we
can use the two words to describe the game, so
we're just gonna call it the big game. Yep, the
big Game.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
I don't know, there's been so many big games the
past few weeks. I don't know which one you're talking actually.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
The one that was actually the big game kind of
what kind of sucks right the game, But the halftime
show was I thought it was.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
It was fantastic, did you like? Yeah, I mean his
performance is great, all the aesthetics, the symbolism there, you know,
made a statement in like a subtle, clever way.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
I thought it was fantastic. Yeah. So what we're gonna
do is we're gonna give our mount rushmore of halftime shows.
And the rule for this is it's open to any
year because the podcast is about the two thousands and nineties,
and you know these artists that perform every year, they're
they're from that era, they're from the night and so
even before that, right, So so I left it open
(04:03):
all the way, like all the way back to the beginning.
What first first halftime show was the Florida State Marching
Band or something like that, And hey, don't that's my
pick for the best ever? What are you doing giving
away my unpopular opinion? Oh but the Florida State Marching
basis not as good as Florida A and M there
(04:27):
of all the Florida marching bands. Yeah, wait, can you
hit that button again? You have one? Yeah, this whole
show is just going to be unpopular. Epits I do
not understand why this is an unpopular opinion, but apparently
it is. The NFL is not rigged to benefit the Chiefs.
That's my unpopular opinion. Because people think that they pay
(04:50):
the after the game. You can't say that anymore. The
entirety of sports fandom involves sports fans like you and
me believing that the sport is legit. The NFL is
not going to risk their entirety, entire integrity just for
the sake of throwing a few flags in favor of
the Chiefs, who, by the way, are the fourth most
penalized team in the NFL over the past three years.
(05:14):
I like it. I have two words to describe what
you just said, and that's called greatness hate. Yea such Yeah, well, you,
as a Patriots fan, can speak to it. I'm sure
all about great es hate. So I understand what Chiefs
fans are going through. People are just and actually, let's
tie it into this. After this past weekend, I saw
a lot of hate about Kendrick on social media, a
lot of hate, and I started getting upset about it
(05:37):
because I didn't put Kendrick in my Mount Rushmore because
I thought it was the best halftime it's not in
my Mount Rushmore. I consider it not the best. I
consider it one of the most important. Yeah, well, I
would say it's the most impactful and important. So my
point is people just like to complain. To complain, you
could put there's not one artist in the world that
(05:58):
you can put in that spot where everybody's gonna be.
Every single Monday, the day after the big game, you're
just gonna see an influx of social media people bitching
about how bad the show is. It doesn't matter what genre.
It could be country, it could be rock. It's just
people are never happy. And social media is a place
where people go to just for some reason, spout out
the spout off their stupid opinions.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah, well, you put it under an anonymous user name
and you can say whatever you want and piss off
whoever you want and watch the fireburn. So and I mean,
you know, and the last thing we're ever gonna talk
about on this podcast is politics. But there's obviously like
a political component to all of this as well. And
it's just it just support each other, recognize a good
(06:39):
show for what it is, even if it's not your
chosen genre. You're I mean, Kendrick Lamar is not like
an artist I listened to all the time. If you know,
if if you had me name my three five current
favorite artists, it probably wouldn't list him. But I watched
that show and I was damn impressed, and I thought
it was freaking awesome, brilliant.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Let's get into it. So I have billboards here. This
is their list of the top I think it's like
fifteen halftime shows. And this was just released a couple
of days ago, after after Kendrick Kendrick did not make
their list interesting making their list. We have from I'm
just gonna rattle them off real quick here. Okay Cole
played Beyonce Ambruno together. That's twenty sixteen, Janet and Justin Yeah,
(07:18):
the most famous. We never we never used the phrase
wardrobe malfunction until that game. How about that, right, Katy
Perry with the you know, left shark yep, left Shark
Rihanna a couple of years ago. That was impressive. Wow,
while pregnant, well pregnant, yeah, which was yeah, incredible. Paul
McCartney rolling Stones six right in the two thousands, they
kind of did a lot of that classic rock stuff.
(07:40):
Michael Jackson, who kind of started off the whole halftime
show that was in ninety three, Lady Gaga in twenty seventeen,
which I was at. Oh wow, okay, I was at
that super Bowl. Don't remember the halftime show because I
was depressed. My team was down to it, right, Yeah,
you had no chance of coming back. It was over
for you. I never it never happened. Madonna in twenty twelve,
Springsteen in two thousand and nine in top three. This
(08:03):
is according to Billboard, Beyonce in twenty thirteen, Doctor Drane
Friends in twenty twenty two. A lot of fun there. Sorry,
this is the top one. You two was number two
in two thousand and two, and number one, which I'm
gonna start, Yeah, my Mount Rushmoregan. I was going to say,
whoever is going first? We know what they're taking acount
of three one two three? Prince Yeah, I mean he's
(08:25):
singing Purple Rain in the rain, Come on done. How
are you ever going to top that? I can't talk that,
and Prince is just is a generational artist. Actually, you
know what, if social media wasn't really around, then I'll
bet you if it was around, there would be people
that would find that was I'm sure they'd find some reason,
but you can't. You can't complain about that. Prince belongs
in the mount Rushmore. So I'm gonna go Prince two
thousand and seven on the mount Rushmore of halftime show.
(08:47):
So now it's true. Yeah, you have no argument for
me on that. I'm gonna go. H Beyonce with an
appearance from her former bandmates and Destiny's Child. That's right, Yeah,
they read that was really that was her career.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
I mean, she had been huge as a member of
Destiny's Child as a celebrity in general for obviously a
very long time prior to that performance. But that, I mean,
she had so many solo hits when she launched her
solo career in the years leading up leading up to that,
and then she brings in I my recollection. You tell
me if you remember differently. But I don't think we
(09:23):
knew the rest of Destiny's Child was going to be
a part of that halftime I think it was. There
might have been talk about it, but I think that
was billed as Beyonce and then out comes the rest
of the band.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
They do some of their older hits. Yeah, there was
definitely there's some chatter about it leading up, it was
never confirmed, nobody knew. I feel like it'd be more
of a spoiler today people, right, yeh, but yeah, that
was a pleasant surprise. My only argument to that whole
reunion was it why I don't think it was long enough?
(09:55):
Part of it? You mean like the child could perform
time themselves and that ain't never gonna happen, right, Beyonce, Right,
that's fair. That's a good one. Okay, So okay, Beyonce
and Prince on the Mount Rushmore, which is four until
until the Mount Rushmore changes to one eventually, just be one.
(10:19):
All right, I'm gonna go twenty fourteen. I'm gonna go
to my favorite artists. Well it was the headliner was Bruno,
But all of a sudden, this was a surprise because
nobody would have thought, here come the Red Hot Chili
Peppers performing with Bruno, Freaking Mars and Redot Chili Pepper's
second favorite band of mine of all time? Really, I
(10:40):
know that about you? Who's the number one Dan favorite
band of all time? Yeah, you gotta get this right,
is it Dave? Yeah, it's Dave. Never did the halftime show,
and for good reason that would be that would be
disastrous because of the hate. They talking about greatness. Hate
people love to hate on But anyways, Yeah, so I'm
gonna put Bruno Mars chili peppers. You had so much energy.
(11:02):
Bruno Mars was born to be a performer on the
biggest stage. He delivered, brings out red hot chili peppers.
They did give it away. It was everything. It was
a combination of pop and R and B and funk.
And you know the best part about Bruno Mars is
he reminds me of our generation's Prince. Yeah, I could.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Definitely right, you could definitely make those parallels. Yeah, so
that's of a weird dude maybe, but no, musically a.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Bruno Mars, I met one of the sweet most sweetest guys.
That are the celebrities that I've ever met. Super nice guy. So, uh,
Prince on my Mount rushmore than we go Beyonce with yours,
then I'm gonna go Bruno with mine. So you have, well,
we have one spot left, what is it? Ers Wisely,
I'm considering you too. I'm considering Madonna. But I think
(11:53):
now you two. You would say because it's you two,
or because of what was going on in the world
at the time.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Yeah, right, that was the post That was the That
was the first post nine to eleven show. It was
I mean, you know, YouTube puts on a great show.
They appealed to they appeal to everyone. You didn't have
the hate. Well, you didn't have the hate for anything
or anyone back in that time. You had a much
more united country.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Yeah for real.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
But if I'm picking one, I think I have to
go three years ago. I think I have to go
twenty twenty two. That lineup. You know, doctor Dre was
the headliner, but you had Snoop, you had Eminem, you
had Mary J. Blige, you had fifty Cent, you had
Kendrick Lamar all in one show and all legitimately performing
(12:36):
their songs. You had, I mean the visuals I remember,
you know, had they had the anti gravity stuff you had.
I think was that the first year that Apple took
it over from PEPSI Maybee, I think it was, And
there was a big focus on you know, all these
fancier visuals. You know, it used to be someone's on
a stage and you didn't have the level of theatrics
(12:57):
that you always have now. That's that was just such
a such an epic, memorable show to me and you know,
when we're talking about this show for Ady one more
time and reminiscent on the nineties and two thousands, I mean,
that was like my childhood re enacted in front of
my eyes, in front of a couple billion people watching
across the.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
World, and you know, to be going back to our
original conversation about this, that was one I feel like
that was universally loved. Yeah, there wasn't much hard to see.
It was hard to complain about that. I mean it
helps when you've got what like six superstars in there,
so even if you want to hate on one, there's
another three that you can't also hate on. Oh, you're right, Yeah,
especially the ninety stuff with the snoop Andre into the
(13:37):
two thousands with Eminem and fifty And by the way,
Eminem doesn't really get out much, so to have him
perform on that stage and he had done he hadn't
done much in a couple of years, I don't think
leading up to that show, right, he could he could headline. Yeah,
that would be amazing. Yeah, I'm surprised that hasn't happened. Yeah,
this dude doesn't need the way. He doesn't like to
(13:58):
get out of the house, I think, Uh, so there's
our Mount Rushmore. I like it. So we have we
have prints. Uh then your pick was beyond Destinies be
Brutal Mars with chili peppers, and then they called it
yeah yeah, doctor Durian friends, I like it. How did
we do? Oh? I wanted to add, if we did
(14:19):
an overall just performance, not halftime performance, I would have
put Whitney. That's that's gotta be in your Mount Rushmore
of just individual song performances in any venue at any time, ever,
Best Stars Spango banner. Ever, I don't know how you
can top and none other come to mind unless it
was a botched one, right right, But she I watched
(14:41):
that every year every Sunday. I watched the Big Game
every Sunday. I'll hear every Sunday Sunday. Yeah, yeah, Whitney,
Houston Star Spangle Banner. I mean I get emotional watching it.
There's an ESPN. It wasn't thirty for thirty, but there's
like a documentary about yeah Zach Mary about it, And
I try and I try and watch that every because
it's just it's so emotional and just she was made
(15:05):
for that moment, you know, so but that was not
the top, right, So you gotta let us know how
we did. Do you agree? Do you disagree? I ran
down the list earlier. I mean Rihanna Stones, Michael Jackson,
which I don't don't remember. I was a little too
young for that. I wasn't really into. Uh.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I feel like I have memories of it, but it's
from clips that you saw replayed in later Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Like way after. Yeah, but that kind of started the
whole thing. I mean, I think Gaga needs a mention too.
With the flying in from the roof, was it good? Yeah,
I was sitting in. I was sitting in the top
top top top row. Well, she probably flew directly over you. Yeah,
we were, Like I said, she literally came in from
the roof. She did exactly. Let us know on the
socials how we did, who we missed? If you agree
(15:50):
or disagree, I'm on Instagram app Brady Radio at Dan
G's zero four, eight to two. Yes, and that's gonna
do it for this episode. We're going to dabble in
some fashion, all right. I cannot wait. Ye, So get
another haircut. I'm gonna have you. I don't think how
long did you get your haircuts every six seven weeks.
What do you do same about that? It's getting it's
(16:13):
getting the older I get. It's getting less and less
of an expense for me. Oh see, it's more for
me because I have grays coming in and as soon
as those grays get long, I'm like chop them off.
Next episode will be all about getting old and getting
your haircut. Oh sponsored by Just for Men. All right,
thanks for listening to The Brady One More Time podcast.
