Speaker 1 (00:01):
Oh right, a lot, a lot. We are out here
in Dallas, Texas. I am joined by Cincinnati Banger's own
Cody Ford. Cody, welcome for glad. Long time coming.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, long time coming.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Like I said, you don't got to steal hat spob anymore.
We're gonna get you your own.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
But I'm glad this is this is working out. Let's
start off out of the gate. You know your recruiting
journey coming out of high school. You originally committed to TCU.
What was the trigger.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
That made you flip to Oklahoma? How did you end
up being a singer?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
So, like, I committed very early to TCU, like I
was still a junior, took a visit. It looked beautiful.
Campus was great. Uh it was like the early spring too.
So you know the talent out there was around, Like
they were like, yo, have you seen the the saying
(00:58):
volleyball right outside the cap. I was like no, they
took me over there. I was like, hey, I'm committing
right now. Yeah. So I committed off like an early jump,
and then the summer comes, I'm getting way more offers.
They're just browling in Oklahoma's coming in Arkansas and Mississippi
State and I'm like, all right, TCU, like I got
(01:20):
my Cleetes designed TCU, like you, I'm in. And the
Oklahoma coach calls me. He's like, you know that TCU
coach has never coached to Oklahoma before. I'm like, no,
I did not know that. I'm like, all right, I'm out.
I'm not being a guinea pig. I did not want
(01:40):
to be a part of that. Yeah, and so h
De committed that summer, took a visit to Oklahoma, took
the visit to the Mississippi State Arkansas, fell in love
with Oklahoma. Campus was best campus I've been on. Yeah.
They were talking about the renovations to the locker room,
(02:02):
the facilities, everything, so you saw everything, what's gonna be.
I was like, it's no better place than here. The
tradition alone of Oklahoma football is just something I wanted
to be a part of. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
I could see that. And then your time at Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah, y'all was like we was hot.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, you were hot hot. Who was your quarterbacks in
your era?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
So when I got there, it was it was t
night for a little bit.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Oh yeah we had we when we were out of Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah. Uh so I had t Night and then Baker
for three years. Uh. In my last year it was Kyler. Yes. Yeah,
the fact that we did win the national championship is sickening.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
It's insane, it's I mean, it is what it is.
It's all said now. And obviously you know I have
a cousin who goes to lu and ya. This last
year is disappointing. Obviously, Yeah, it was disappointing, very disapointing.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
But like Prime Oklahoma bros. That was my era too,
Like we're same eras. What was it like playing with Baker?
Speaker 2 (03:05):
I had it.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
I just had We had a dude on the pond,
Jacob Easton, who was behind Baker in Carolina. Yeah, he's
got the juice.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Talk about the guy having the juice, Baker. It's Playing
there with Baker was like electric, like you never knew
what was going to happen, never knew what he was
going to do. He might, you know, just drop back
throw it, you know, fifty sixty yards, but he also
the fact that he could run, Yeah, was like we
(03:37):
gotta win it, like we have to win. Yeah, And
we knew going into every game with Baked taking the snaps,
we were gonna win that was the feeling.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
That's so lit, so awesome.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
That's so awesome, you guys, I'm thinking back of that
era now, like the Ohio State flag planting. Yeah, I
mean that was that was that changed like people, everyone's
trying to drop that now.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
No, I know, but that was easily the og moment
of that happening.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
The best moment too.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
You were you were Were you right there when it happened?
Speaker 2 (04:07):
No. So I actually got a concussion that game, so
like I'm at the hospital, like getting CT scans all
types of stuff, So.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
All the game's still going.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, like damn, I come back and the next day
they're like, yo, Bake just went crazy on the field,
y'all talking about Yeah he playing the flag. I know. Yeah,
I'm like looking it up on Twitter on my own viral.
Yeah he really did that.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Do you think would you rather have played in the
era college football you did or like this.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Twenty twenty four season when I played, Yeah, without a doubt,
I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
I mean some guys, like I said, being at the
East West Shrine in this environment I have I've been
asking guys that, you know, I get kind of half
and half answers, like there's some dudes who are like
like yeah, they're like I don't like it because it
kills culture. It's I mean the beautiful thing of football
is like it's okay to have to battle and not
(05:04):
see the field right away and like half.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I mean that was that was like the beauty of it.
Like I came in had the red shirt cool, like
I got to take the not I'm not that.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Is not the worst thing at all.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
It's honestly, it was probably the best thing for me. Yeah,
And I get to sit behind guys, you know that,
like Orlando. I get to watch him just play and
ball out and and then like when it's your time,
like you know, they bring you in to develop you
and then you go ball and it's like your life
changes forever. But like without the nil, like ball was
(05:40):
just ball. Like we were able to just go out
there practice with the guys. Like it was a grind,
especially at OU like nothing was usual. Uh, Like Jerry
Smidt was our string coach for three years and then
we had Benny Wiley, But like under Jerry Smith, it
was like old school, like we go on grind like
early onrnings, long workouts. It was ball was beautiful. It
(06:05):
was like real football. I'm not saying it's not real
football now, but like you also get to like build
so many relationships because no one's leaving.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
No, no, it's long term. It's three your friends are
for two, three, four, five years.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
I mean I still like obviously I'm with Orlando and Cincinnati,
so like that connection. But like even guys that haven't
played with in the league, like from every day, like
either on the phone, text or like world on video
games every day. Like, so the relationships that we were
able to build because no one left, like everyone stayed,
like everyone dugged it out together, grinded it out, like
(06:39):
we went through all the same We just built that connection.
And it's like also it's like for me, I'm looking
on it like on this side now, Like it sucks
for those coaches, right because they don't get to like
the chance to like truly develop a culture a culture
or like establish a room built by you know, what
they've put into it. Like like from my line coach
(07:01):
being bow he's the best coach in college football and
offensive line wise, and the fact that he can't like
you know, bring guys in and be like I'm going
to have you for the next three to four years
and make you, you know, top like first second round,
third pick. It sucks, right, it hurts his reputation and
(07:24):
his legacy because guys are just coming in all I
don't like it here maybe or I'm not playing enough
for the coach is too hard on me, you know,
and it's like that's just football, Like it's just gonna
get on you. It's gonna be long days.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
You might have to be on a field goal for
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Bro, It's fine, but like, yo, thug it out. Trust
the process, and I guarantee you you might look up
at the end of that and be like, dude, I'm
so glad I.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Went through that.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Yeah, I couldn't agree more Like it is interesting, I
want to I don't know what your take is, especially
being a VET in the league now where.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
You got guys who have stayed loyal to their school.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Like this upcoming draft class, Like there's guys who stayed
and played one place for four or five six.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Years COVID, and then you've got guys who played at
four different colleges.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I think that's crazy to say.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
I think it's disgusting.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
I mean, I just like I don't quite understand. First
of all, let's let me go back to the original question.
Do you think like an NFL GM cares at that point,
Like is that something they're going to take note on
or is that just the landscape?
Speaker 2 (08:35):
So like I've had this conversation like the in the
weight room with guys and like it was a great
locker room topic, big locker room topic, and it's like
I see both sides like where it's like the GM
probably just like gonna be one GM, like I don't care,
like if he can play, he can play right, like
I want them on the team, and then there's obviously
(08:57):
going to be that other GM that's like we want
the guys that you know are going to show loyalty,
show you know that they can handle adversity.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
And commit to a process.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
And so it's like neither one of them is right
or wrong. But it's like for me, I would love
to be the guy, like I want you all to
see that like whatever I go through, I'm able to
go through it, like handle it right and come out
on top astly be that type of like player that
you want to draft.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Yeah, no, I couldn't agree more.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I just.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
The four different teams. Thing is crazy to me, Like
it's even crazy to me. And I had the situation
playing well at President State, where.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
You know, when you're on a football team, especially in college,
when you're still you are a kid, like realistically, but
you're not. You have to become a grown and quick quick.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
You're gonna get treated like it.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
But like having a coach, I think a lot of
people have the situation where you really think in the US,
like a father figure almost exactly like there, I'm sure Oklahoma,
you guys had your your version of you know, family
based sayings, core values, locker room on the walls, like
everyone's got their thing right, and to see a coach
(10:15):
like so passionate about it and then one day he
gets offered a little bit more money and he goes
and like within hours, you're looking on Twitter and all
of a sudden, his bios different.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
He's wearing a different colored shirt, different colored logo, and like.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
He's preaching that same somewhere else to a whole different school,
even though and it's not like there's like a there's
no like breakup process right.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Like like like it's just like boom boom, Like yo,
give me that blue Pole, Like.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
It's almost like like when Lincoln Riley left, that was crazy.
It was crazy, but Link was my guy when I
was there, and so like when everything was coming out,
I'm like, I mean, I go and blame the guy,
you know, better opportunity he felt that he had, so
why not take it. But it's like if my offensive
(11:08):
line coach was like there one day and then go
on the next, it would crush me. Like you said,
like at one point, I'm looking at this man like
almost like a father figure in my life. So it's
like if he was to leave, it would like be devastating.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
No, it's terrible, And then you're just stuck there with
like whoever they want to bring in, which is okay
in real in real world like in jobs, like yeah,
that's you know, sometimes your boss gets fired or sometimes
he gets promoted.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
To the third store at floor, and now you're you know,
you got to deal with the elements like that's part
of life. But like that's that's just three audita of it.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Speaking of the draft, like, okay, season's over, you know
you're you're gonna make your run to go to play
in the league. What was your process, Like did it
go how you think it would be. Did you go
were you expecting to go second round? Like, how was
your how is your leader?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
What was your journey?
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Min I just kind of went into it with like
a real open mind of like whatever happens happens, right,
Like that was kind of the point of me leaving
in the first place. Yeah, I've graduated college, I got
my degree. Like wherever I'm drafted, that's where I'm just
(12:24):
gonna be drafting. Yeah, Like I'm I don't have my
hot my hopes too high, I don't have them too low,
just right in the middle of where you know, I'm
just gonna go train, let everything work out the way
it's supposed to work out. But then you like go
through the process of like combine training and along the
way up until the draft, and you like see like
(12:46):
the first mock draft had me going number seven overall. Yeah,
I'm like, I'm like, there's no way. Yeah. Crazy, I'm like,
I'm like looking at it. Everyone's sending it to me,
tagging me on Instagram, Like there's just no way. Like
my name is attached to like a potential number seven pick.
I'm like, what do I do now?
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Like, what what's what's what can you do?
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Yeah, I'm like there's nothing I can do, right because
I'm looking at it like I had one full year
of starting at Oklahoma. Just like I'm like trying to
do the math. I'm like looking at other guys that's
declaring for the league. I'm like there's just no way,
like why.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Other people had different resumes, right, And so.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Then I'm like talking to my agent and he's like, dude, like, yeah,
you could be a first round pick.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
And I'm like that's that's that's what's up.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
That's what's up.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
And so uh, like the process keeps going alone alone,
and it's like, Yo, there's like a ninety percent chance
you're like a lot for a first round pick. Wow,
there's just no way, Like my life, it's going that way.
I'm like beyond great that it was even that opportunity there.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
And so like the night before I leave to like
go because the draft that year was in Nashville. Okay,
So like the night before we leave to go to Nashville,
I'm like texting my agent like, Yo, what's it, Like,
where are we going? Like we are we for sure
going in the first round because at this point I
don't want to like have a long night.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Right, because you were planning on going to the draft.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Yeah, and what I did, okay, And so like I
want to be able to be there and like not
have so much stress because it's already going to be
a long night. Like I already know it's gonna be
a a stressful event. Yeah yeah. And uh text him
and I'm like, are we like going to be in
(14:50):
the first round, like we're getting drafted tomorrow. He's texting me.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Like yeah, He's saying, yeah, yeah, okay.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
I'm like, all right, well that's right. Now. My hopes
that I had like kind of you know, control, they
just went up. I'm like, all right, I got my
family here, I got my high school coach here, I
got my old line coach from college. Link was there
because it was me, Kyler and Jet we all went
to the to the draft night, so he was there.
(15:20):
I got my friends with me. I'm like, Yo, this
is this is what it's all about. And then the
thirty second pick comes in and I'm not drafted. I'm
just sitting there.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
Like emotionally liked.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
And then like I get back to the room, I'm
like kind of mad, like honestly, I'm not fair than him,
but I'm kind of mad at him. It was because
you know, you told me nice to night. Yeah yeah,
so you know what.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
I'm like, could have left a little bit of yeah,
but it was.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Like, yeah, we're going tonight. Yeah, And he's like, what
do you want to do tomorrow. I'm like, dude, I
got my Xbox here, put me in a room, let
me play the Xbox with the remaining family. I got
my off ye, and I'm just whenever the phone rings,
it rings. It's like it's like an hour into the
second round, boom, buffalo calls. Here we go.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Wait, so you were in Nashville for the draft.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
I stayed the next night.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
You stayed, but you went to the actual draft.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
And then you're like not going back into the into
the room, chill in the hotel room, play xbox.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Play phone calls. Let me know what the Yeah, that's
pretty gangster.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Because the whole point it was like I'm there to
like when I whenever I get drafted, to walk across
the stage, like right, I still want that moment. First round,
second round doesn't matter, Like yeah, selfishly, like I've earned
that moment. I deserved that moment, Like I'm gonna have
that moment. So, like I said, I'm playing Xbox at
the hotel, like two three minutes away from the stage.
(17:04):
I get the call finished the call up like all right,
we got a vand for you to go to the stage.
Walk across. All right, let's go.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Load you up. Yeah, walked across.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Tell me about walking across.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
So like I like went through like the the tunnel
or whatever they had made, and then like you come
out and it's like I didn't expect to see that
made people. It was still a lot of people there
that yeah, that night, and I'm like wow, Like I
almost like you couldn't get like stage fright because you
don't have to speak or anything. But I'm like shaking
(17:41):
hands with Rodrick Goodell and like getting my hat, getting
interviewed right there. And then like I walked through, then
I meet all the Buffalo fans that were there, and
it was like such a blur and it was like
so surreal. In the moment, I was like, dude, this
is my life now, this is crazy. It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
That is awesome, man, And honestly, like what a franchise
to go to, Like, yeah, like I don't know.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
I'm not gonna say the franchise is out there because
that's that's not fair, especially with the younger brothers about
to the process.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
But I feel like, like I.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Said, you had a good era of Oklahoma football. Yeah,
I think you hit it at a decent time. And
if you look at the lineage of the Buffalo Bills, like.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
There was worse times to play for the Bills.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Yeah, in your first year you had to make a
jump from right guard to left guard.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Is that correct?
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (18:38):
No?
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Second year?
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Second year? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (18:40):
How hard is that?
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Like mentally, I'm such a symmetrical persons where I've never
had to deal with that.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Like it's I find that question like why do people
keep asking me that?
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Really?
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Because like for me, I'm like just like really like
and it's like it's like not like why do you
ask that stupid question? Because like I'm actually curious to
like why people find it, like honestly like hard to
like be able to be on one side one day
and then be like, hey, you're on the other side,
(19:19):
Like why you can't just go do it right? Because
I'm like, all right, the players are the plays, right,
the technique is the technique where's like the gap between
just being able to to move from Why is it
so hard? Yeah? Yeah, so like every time, like even
(19:40):
this year, I was boom boom, boom boom in a
million positions. It's like I am who I am. The
technique is the technique, the players are the plays.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Well, it makes you much more of an asset too,
that you're able to go across the board on the
old line. Yeah, some guys who could only play one
of the five might limit you over time.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
There's sometimes some guys almost like they're not moving me
to a position I haven't played before. Now, any team
was like, hey, we need to go to play center,
my mind would be like WHOA, Now, I see what
the question is about.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Right right, that's different. That's a different animal, different animal,
never been there before.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
I wouldn't know what to do. I freeze up, probably,
But like I started off, I played left tackle in
high school, started off at left guard in Oklahoma, finished
that right tackle. So it's like, all right, played both tackles.
I played left guard. So wherever you need me to
(20:43):
play like, I've been there before. There's no newness to
whatever you asked me to do.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
In your journey. You suffered a couple of injuries. Now, right, yeah,
tell me you know the mental side of going through
that league injuries, Like, okay.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Obviously how it hurts, you would raise your arms. But
what I'm saying, but I don't think you know, I
like to just kind of bring out like can some other.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Dude take your reps.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Not being able to contribute when you you're a competitor,
you want to be out there. But you know, one
thing about football is like time is not on your
side at all. Ever, Like one season goes by, another
season goes by. It really could It could kill your career,
whether it's that's that could be high school, college, and right,
(21:43):
how is how was your experience?
Speaker 1 (21:45):
How did you handle the mental side of injuries in
the league.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
The one year I was hurt where I couldn't play
because most of my injury, most of my surgeries came
back at the end of the year. But the one
year I couldn't play was the year we went to
the AFC Championship, And it really sucked because I knew,
like that was a year when I was there that
(22:13):
we could have won, Like that was the year and
like I'm at home. That sucks. Just pissed, pissed, Like
I'm on the couch, knee braced up, hanging with the dogs,
and I'm like, man, I was there anything to be
out there with the guys, just be you know, even
just around the guys. But like I just leaned. I
(22:38):
leaned on my family. I started doing like my mental
work with like a therapist at that time. I just
like played the game as much as I could that way,
I could like talk to the guys that way. But
like my family was key in that. Just being able to, like,
(22:59):
you know, go old to the people you know who
love you most no matter what right and they just
give you like that, the comfort that you.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Need surrounding yourself by the right people is huge. It's everything.
When was your first real welcome to the league.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Moment, it was like week three or a week four.
Ricky Year were like in the goal like goal line situation.
I'm at right tackle and like we run like a
power player or something, and I'm like climbing to the linebacker.
I don't know who it was. I can't remember. We
were playing Patriots and it might have been high tower
(23:36):
and I'm like climbing up to the linebacker a high
standing up tall right in the middle of my chest
just knocks me off. My it's not college, and I
like get up and I'm like dudeus and for like
the next you know, ten fifteen minutes, my chest hurting
(23:58):
and I'm like, yeah, that was it.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
That was it.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
I feel like I'm in the league now, Yeah, that
was crazy.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
It was damn. What about you know, well, obviously you
eventually moved on from Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Yeah, I went to a Z. Now you're with Cincinnati.
How has the business side of the league been for you?
Speaker 1 (24:20):
The trades? Were they surprising?
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Well, my trade wasn't surprising. It was actually very mutual.
Like I kind of like secretly behind closed doors, like
requested my trade out. They honored it, and they really
honored it in a huge way by sending me like
where I wanted to go, Like I wanted to go
back and play with Kyler, I wanted to be in
a Z and they did that, so like that was
(24:44):
actually kind of cool, Like most teams don't do that,
like you said, like Buffalo is honestly a great organization,
like great staff, great coaches, like they they are really
good people over there. And then that season ends and
I'm a free agent. So now I'm starting to see
(25:05):
more of like a business side of like how that
stuff kind of goes down with being a free agent
because now it honestly feels like the draft all over again,
like where you kind of have to be like chosen
by a team. Right. And then I like take a
visit to Cincinnati. Honestly, it was like being like on
(25:28):
college visits again. Wow. You go there, you meet with
the coaches, you meet with like the people upstairs, they
take you through like you know, physicals all that type
of stuff. And then like I'm there and I'm like
I can feel like I feel it, I can feel
the energy here, right, Like I hope I hope this
is why I win one. Yeah, not even just win one,
(25:50):
like I hope they choose me, right, And I'm like
waiting to go back to the airport and my agent
calls me to be like hey, we're working on the
deal right now, all right, cool, Like I have no
problem with that, yeah, And then I just the like
crazy thing is I texted Orlando like while I'm on
the plane to Cincinnati, I'm like, hey, I'm headed to
(26:11):
Cincinnati or a visit, Like let's let's let's link up again.
Ten minutes later, I get a notification Orlando Brown signs
with the Bengals.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
I'm like, oh, you guys winch the Dingos at the
same time.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Yeah, oh that's sick. I did not know that. Yeah. No,
So like he's signed the day before me or whatever,
and then I signed the next day. But like, honestly,
kind of the whole off season, like I was like, yo, dude,
let's let's go to Cincinnati. He ain't text me back, like, dude,
come on, and he signs, But I'm like, dude, you
could have you see my text?
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Bro.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
Yeah, like I'm trying. I'm trying to talk to you
about it. Yeah, I still get him. It was it
was crazy, like I get to be back with Orlando. Uh,
Joe was there at the time, Joe Mixon. So I
got to go into a locker.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Room where like I had got familiar faces and.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Like I knew the guys. I was going like link
up with you know they've won before. Orlando's got a
Super Bowl. Uh, the Bengals went to the Super Bowl
a couple years prior, so like the guys on the team,
like I know how to win.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
It was awesome.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
That is awesome.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
And you got your blocking for Joe Burrow. Yeah, cool
Joe Dog tell me about Joe Burrow. No, you've got
some some of the best quarterbacks. Yeah yeah, yeah, like
throughout his career ever.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah, blessed. Uh, Joe's cool. He's cool Borrow. I mean
he's he never gets too high, he never gets too low.
He's like the same, same like temperament throughout. Uh. But
then you see like the sparks, like after we score
a touchdown or something like you see that up he's
(27:57):
passionate about this.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Yeah, and.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Twenty four to seven. Yeah. But on the flip side,
like Joe's a funny guy, Like he's cool like when
you when you get them out of his shell a
little bit, and like he's with the guys and he's laughing,
he's you know, he's interacting with us. It's awesome to see.
He's a great guy.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
Yeah, dude, this season was crazy. I didn't even have
it on my notes. I was like, I don't know,
I wasn't thinking about that.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
It was incredible to like watch, like be a part of.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
Because being sane.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
What was what was like the there hadn't been a
locker room moment where you guys said we got to
flip switch right now.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Because there was a moment where basically you said, we
are we can't lose.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
It was after the first time we played at Pittsburgh.
We played them at home, we lost.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
Was that the shootout? Yeah, yeah, there was a couple
of shootouts.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Yeah, there was a couple of shootouts. So we lose
to them, and it's like I said, it's at home.
So like we're right into the locker room and we're like,
all right, it's the playoffs from here on now. Straight up.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
You came up and you said it. No, no, no,
everyone everyone's a great us.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
That's what Zach was saying. And like we're like having
one off conversations, like with the guys, it's like like
we have to win that. We gotta go win simple.
After that, we never lost fun. It was incredible.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
I think there was like a point oh one percent
chance you guys made the playoffs that week.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Yeah, and then I believed I was tweeting on I
was big bro. I was been overs and jo Burrow
touchdown fastest bro, and I was doing great.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Yeah, and I was betting Baker too, So like maybe
anybody you play with is producing for my.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Degenerate game to see it happen the way it did.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
And then you got you guys did I mean, you
did everything you can do that part you did, You
did your part. But then it goes back to a
couple plays, a couple of plays here and there, early season.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
It just goes to show you that it's truly game
of inches.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
There was one point where we were like, what four
and eight, yeah, and it's looking dark. We going this
damn just this huge run and it was incredible.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
What was the most just like the boys are bopping
moment out of all those wins, you think.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
All right, so we went Dallas. We're playing after Dallas
Tenn's see, yeah, i'd probably say Dallas maybe or even
know the last the last game Pittsburgh. We're in Pittsburgh primetime. Yeah,
We're like, all right, one more game, like we gotta win.
(30:45):
We know we gotta win if we want to if
we want to accomplish what we gotta come aat game
Tonight's tonight. And we go out there and we just
we just put it all just clicking. Yeah, And it
was like one of those games where its football game too.
It's like ten twelve degrees. It's cod Cincinnati versus Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
BI big robbery heavyweight fight on the line, Like, yeah,
tonight's tonight.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
It was the atmosphere was incredible.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
So you're happy in Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
I love Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
I gotta make it out there. Bro OB's teams told.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Me to come out there Cincinnati. The city is great too.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
I gotta get out there. We gotta get out there.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
What about I had one of these notes on your
your pregame fits, what's your what's your mindset on the
pregame fits?
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Simple?
Speaker 1 (31:38):
I mean swaggy.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Yeah, it's like look good, you feel good, you play good,
of course.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
But like you had one on December twenty eighth that
it looks like you had like a loota Libri mask on.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
So the crazy thing is, it's honestly, it's a Bag's
like a little tote bag. And all you do is
you put the straps inside the helmet. It's meant to
be a mask, and then you just wear it as
a mask. It's meant to be a mask. It's meant
to be a bag, a bag. It's bag first, mask.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Second, it says it all the directions. You didn't just
put it on your head right.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
No, Like it's like that's when they they sell advertisers like, hey,
you can have it as a bag or you could
wear it as a mask, your choice.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
I love.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Uh. Yeah, that was my birthday fit.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
So I was like, last home game stand out here,
let's just do something crazy. What's that the craziest one
you've done so far?
Speaker 2 (32:42):
No, last year I wore I wore like the Blinciaga
towel skirt.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Oh wow, yeah, so it's literally you feel loose.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Yeah, well I had I had like some car herds underneath,
but like, yeah, I wore the towel skirt. I think
that was That's even crazier because it's like my being
like a tower scaper. My thing too is like whatever
I decide to wear, I don't care about anyone else's opinion. No,
So it's like when I put it on and I
(33:15):
look in the mirror, I'm like this like this is yeah,
this is the one. Yeah. Like that's my confidence level
with like my outfits. Like if I walk out the
house in it, I believe, like this is the best
fit I'm around right now.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Absolutely, I have to. Yeah, I truly believe. If you
usually like like I'll be on a radio row. I'm
usually suited and booted. I'm a big sports code guy.
I got a couple of nice pairs of cowboy boots
I have to wear.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
It's just you got to pick your look.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Like when I'm at the house and I'm doing interviews
at the studio, I mean, I'll throw whatever wrong. This
is my Saturday morning at the High Regency Fit, so
I'm not trying to be too swacked out today, But
like in five hours, when I'm interviewing these dudes, I
got a nice little black turtleneck, got a swaggy little
smoke screen black sports coat, my black jeans, my black
(34:12):
alligator boots.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Throw probably throw one of these type of things on.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Bring that all together, bro, I got that swagger worry about,
don't you worry about? But it's just like I don't
want to be disrespectful, but like you have certain Like
there's other dudes in this room doing exactly what I'm doing,
and they're wearing like random hoodies, polos with holes in
(34:40):
the armpit show a little like professionalism, Like like I do,
get level up a little bit. I don't know, maybe
I'm crazy, Maybe I'm old school, like that.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
No, it's just it's almost like you said, like pick
your swag.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I picked my swag, and like people know, like when
I walk in the room, people know like, oh, this
dude's here.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Yeah, Like they're not like is he is he a scouted?
Is he is he?
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (35:06):
You know have a column like the Steelers or something
that like no, bro, this is just come over here,
this is my table.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
We run the room like this is how they go.
And I don't know.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
I think I think the way you carry yourself definitely
determines the outcome of your actions down the road.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
If you if you come in a pre game.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Fit, I mean, you're probably gonna be unorganized on your
on your processes the game itself.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Maybe it doesn't translate, but I think it does. Man,
I don't.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
I don't disagree, uh, because it's like the morning the
game that like you wake up and it's like you've
got to be able to like be like all right,
it's time and go. Like you said, like when I
walk in that stadium, like I know what I'm here
to do, what I gotta do. So it's like why
just go. It's just nothing wrong with it. I mean, hey,
people do it, but like just throwing a T shirt
(35:59):
on this sweats can't do it.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
I can't do it. No, like the saint in high
school bro An fl.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Yeah yeah, like I'm here like whoop someone you know.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Yeah, bring out the body bags. Yeah, put it on
your face. Literally, I saw you got the cyber truck.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
Yeah, Well my next door neighbor has one. It's like
a Matt Midnight Bavy. Oh and he's like kind of
like Serial Killer OCD style.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
His garage is like like cleaner than the floors of
my house, type one of those like child.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
Yeah. I don't know why I had to mention that
all that. What made you pull trigger on the cyber truck?
Speaker 3 (36:50):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Well, I am my my Raptor. Like so whenever I
was getting drafted and stuff, my big purchase was like
my truck brand new rapp Through customized. Everything except the
engine had to toe. Everything was custom wheels, pain speaker,
Like I mean literally everything on there besides the engine
(37:12):
was custom. Wow. So like that was my baby. Yeah.
I was like, you know, I'm keeping this pits forever,
but there's no way I get rid of it, Like
I want to hand it down to my son one day,
like that's my dream. And then cyber truck comes out.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
Dream changed thing is sick, and I'm like, you know,
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Gonna do it. I'm not gonna do it. And then
throughout the season, I'm like looking at it. I seen
one driving around sincy Gotta have it, gotta have it,
gotta have it. I'm like, you know what, that's gonna
be my birthday present to myself. So like two three
weeks before my birthday, like, call the guy who like
does all my cars. I'm like, hey, I'm bringing I'm
(37:57):
sending you the Raptor. I want the cyber truck. Let's
get it done. He was all right, Like the week
of my birthday, on like a Wednesday, cyber truck pulls up.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Yeah, but that's not just any cyber truck that old.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
That's sick. I think I saw it when I saw
you see it. But yeah, because like my truck was black. Uh.
And then I had an Aldi and it was black,
and I traded down one in two and I got
another car and I was like, I'm not doing I'm
not doing black this time.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
What made you decide on gold?
Speaker 2 (38:31):
It's more of like a desert sand. So I was
like the cyber truck. You know, you look at it
and it gives off like, you know, militant type. I'm like,
you know what, let's just like make it look like
what people think it's. It's here, like it looks like
it's gonna you know, you know, it looks like like
you could put hit the button and guns and gonna
(38:52):
come out to sorry.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
On the flight here from President, I threw on Transformers,
the first one, which by the way, is a great like.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
I haven't watched it in a minute. It's such a
great it's awesome. Shylah buff is probably his best film.
I don't know, but.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Megan Fox's that's o g Megan Fox, Right, yeah, that's
that's what made Megan Fox.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
Megan Fox.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
And then I'm not gonna lie. I had tears in
my eyes when bumble Bee almost died. Bro, like an
Optimus Prime. I might name my next kid Optimist.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
Bro, you told me you're not gonna have He has
no option but to do that. He's going to be
the scrappiest.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
Life buzz cut, cowboy straight and cowboy collar exactly, no strip,
just the drip.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
God, I blacked through the through the roof. Give him
the bar one bar.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
Yeah, but he's gonna have a little a little swag,
a little long towel or something like that.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
Maybe maybe maybe finger tape, I don't.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
Know, no gloves straight.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
Yeah anyways, Uh, your truck could probably be a former.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Yeah. No, it's sick. Yeah, that is sick. It drives
so smooth too. Oh.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
Well, when you said I'm charging my car, i'd be
a little late today, I was.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
Like, there's a crazy statement to say.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Bro. I'm I'm just telling you, Jake. I'm like, I
couldn't even imagine that.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
Well, it's like I charge you at home.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
I have the charger at home, but like you keep
that one here in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
No, I just brought it down and then I kept
another car Sincy. Uh, But like I charged it at home,
but then it doesn't really charge fast. So I'm like,
all right, I know I might not be home the
rest of the day and we go get some some juice.
So I'm like, all right, I'll just hit the supercharger
real quick, get enough for the whole day and be fine.
(41:02):
But it's like to have to text someone like y'all
gotta charge my car. It's crazy. But like I'm like Damn.
I used to be like, Hey, I'm stopping to get
gassed real quick, be there. No time changed, Still show
up all the time. I got to sit there for
twenty thirty minutes charging my car.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
Can't go anywhere, No, can't what it is throughout your career,
you know, there's ebbs and flows. As we've kind of
talked about. If you had one, you know, real core
principle about what you turn to when you have to
face adversity, would it be?
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Honestly, I don't think it registered with me until this
past season, like what it was actually meant. But like
Orlando gave a speech to the team one day and
one of his key points was trust the man next
to you and trust the man in the mirror, and
that hit home like no other because at the end
(42:03):
of the day, it's when you're out there, even if
you're not out there, and when you're in the meeting room,
when you're at home or whatever, whoever you're at home with,
Like even if it's like you know your partner, uh,
wherever you're at in this in this profession, trust the
man next toe and more important, like trust the man
(42:24):
in the mirror, and like especially like the trust the
man in the mirror, Like that part was the whole reason,
Like I was able to go out there and just
play as free as I've ever played before, right, because
at the end of the day, like the reason I'm
you know, sitting in that seat in the meeting room
in the NFL facility is because of the work I've
(42:46):
put in, and you know, the sacrifices I've made, and
you know, all these like the blood, the typical like blood,
sweat and tears I've put in this Like you've earned
the right to be here, like living that. You got
to remember that every once in a while you do.
And it's like, honestly, sometimes even when like I just
(43:07):
walk in the building, like it hits me again, like yo,
I'm in the NFL. Yeah, it's awesome, and you know
I'm going in the year seven next year, and it's
like I'm six years.
Speaker 1 (43:18):
In raw it's like holy getting old too.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
Yeah, which is like crazy because it's like I'm obviously
not getting old, but like it was.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
Like you get old quicker what the NFL stands for,
not for long, like most people are happy to play one, two,
three seasons. Yeah, and like you said to be like
It's not like you feel like some season there it's
just no time keeps going by.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
It's like, I mean, our meeting rooms are on the
second floor and like we're walking up the stairs one day.
I need are killing me? Yeah, and I'm like, uh,
but it's like, you know, it's just that just comes
with the length of the NFL season, Like he's going
to be beat up by then.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
It's tele I got for you, bro, Yeah, I I
appreciate you slideing on bringing juice. Well, for sure, collab
on a bunch of stuff. This has been money to
take you. If you could come to the golf tourney,
I would invite you.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
But should you got factional parties? Yeah, both to have
fun at Austin.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
But we uh now, man, I appreciate your time on
great links, great links.
Speaker 1 (44:25):
We'll be out too, Bow Week two.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
Oh yeah, I'll be out there.
