celebrating Kwa's one hundredth birthday and the Broncos Twitter and
(01:11):
Facebook pages, the drive the Helicopter Wildcard walk off for
Super Bowl fifty strip sack. Thank you Broncos for celebrating
one hundred years of KOA and this Sunday, by the way,
our own Dave Logan, not Dan Logan. Dave Logan. We'll
plant the flag to hype up the Broncos before an
empower field. My hid just before kickoff. So Dave getting
to plant the flag. That's gonna be a lot of fun.
(01:32):
I'll I'll be watching for that.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I can't wait to see it. I can't wait to
see it either. I can't wait to your Rick's call
of it. I think that's gonna be funny.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Oh yeah, you know I need him to clown hammer
the flag.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Definitely working. That is definitely working that it might be
the perfect opportunity for him to get it right in
the right out of the way.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
I'm going to text Rik. I'm texting Rick Lewis right now,
I'm telling him I've got a segue for he got
to your way.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
For you to do this, you need to Day's thing
and just clown hammer it in there, you know, But
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
They might be forcing it a little much. But we
will get away to get that. Get that in there
without further ado. Let's uh pick some games. It's so
weird weekend with a lot of players out. We got
a lot of wild lines out there. Start quick, the
funniest one, Brown's at Ravens. This line started off Ravens
(02:17):
minus fourteen and a half is after Ravens minus twenty.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Getting this one.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Say, when's the last time we saw twenty point line?
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Does anybody know? Never?
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Twenty twenty was its researching for NFL six packs.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Twenty twenty is about right?
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Okay, yeah, good god man, it's been a while. Twenty
point line top.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Ten, biggest line since the NFLFL merger.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
That would seem correct, Yes, fifty four percents, fifty six
percent of money.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
On the Ravens playing twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Hilariously, the over under on that LEGE twenty is forty
one eighty three events, eighty one percent of money on
the over on that on the money line, Ravens are.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Minus twenty four hundred.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
That means you have to wager twenty four hundred dollars
to win one hundred dollars bets eighty eight percent of
money on the Ravens on the money line minus twenty
four hundred. I think we're all picking the Ravens here.
Do we really do we need to go into this
the Cleveland shut like everybody down.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Yeah, I'm taking the Ravens and I'm taking the Ravens
to cover.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
It's a big.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Line, but I guess at four Dorian Thompson Robinson has
twenty one drives this season, nine points five turnovers. They
might need to score twenty five twenty four to cover
that line.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
I think they do it. I think you just convinced
me that the Ravens will cover. Yeah, I'll go on
with that as well. I'm I'm tempted tempted there as well.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
I will say that the Ravens probably get up to
a lead and start.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Resting people in the second half.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
I would think they are They are playing for something too,
which is a part of whitest.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Line is what it is. MI is twenty get out
of here.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Grant smiss Bengals taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the
Ravens were to somehow lose that the Steelers would be
playing for something here need victory as well.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
This would start off Bengals minus one a half.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
That's the Bengals mines two and a half now sixty
five bets, seventy percent of money on the Bengals on
the road on Saturday night over.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Unders started forty seven and a half of state.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
The same, seventy nine percent of bets, ninety one percent
of money on the over. On the money line, fifty
eight percent of bets, sixty eight percent of money on
the Bengals. Not a lot of people on the Steelers
at home in this one.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Yeah, Russ Magic coming to a close. Cinderella, that carriage
turned back into a pumpkins to wipe this smoke grid right.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Up the brea.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
Cincinnati's getting hot right now. I think their defense is
playing some of their best ball of the season. We
all know how great that offense is with Burrow and
Higgins and company. I think they win and make the
Broncos earn it. Yeah, and last three games for the Steelers.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Talking about Russ's magic wearing off thirteen points against the
Eagles and a loss, seventeen points against the Ravens and
a loss, and ten points against the Chiefs and a loss.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
I don't think they're going.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
To keep up with the Bengals offense, and the Bengals
will keep their playoff hopes alive for.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
One more day Proby Buis and George Pickens for a while.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
They do get him back, so they had him back Christmas.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Yeah, ten points, Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
And this one Steelers at home might might just be
the kiss of death for the Bengals. Playoff host say,
we'll see you watch the Bengals and the Broncos lose
in Miami makes the playoffs. Now everybody's miserable they backed
or their way with Otula.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
I'm gonna take the Steelers in that one.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Bills taking on the Patriots, the Bill's gonna be resting everybody.
There are still three point favorites, and this Drick may
may not be a go in this one either. Seventy
eight percent of bets seventy eight percent of money on
the Bills minus three over understarted forty three and a
half is plummeted to thirty six eighty seven percent of bets,
seventy nine percent of money on the over there on
the money line, Bills minus one fifty five ninety percent
of bets, ninety eight percent of money on Buffalo in
(05:39):
this one, I'm taking Buffalo on the road, even with what.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Mike White or whoever it is they're trying to out there.
The bitch Trubisky again, is he back?
Speaker 4 (05:47):
It might?
Speaker 1 (05:47):
It might be the Trip, It might be the True
show Man, the Big Bisky Show, the Mitch Truebisky Show.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
I think that's still to be the Patriots. Might I
teach jord Mayo might be a dead man walking? Who
knows that that The vibes in New England right now
seemed horrific. Give me the Bills, and I mean I
would stay away from that line to give me the
Bills to.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Win at least.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, and you want, if you're the Patriots and especially
the Patriots fan base, you don't want to win this
game anyway because you want that number one pick, So
give me the Bills as well.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yeah, I'm we're all in agreement there. Houston Texans taking
on the Tennessee Titans. Will Levis is going to get
the start for the Titans in this one. The Houston
Texans plus one point five in this one. If I
have to tell you a laundry list of players they're resting.
They are getting a point and a half on the road,
eighty three percent of bets, sixty nine percent of money
on the Texans there over under started thirty six eight
(06:34):
thirty six, eighty seven percent of bets, eighty percent of
money on the over, sixty percent of bets, ninety percent
of money on the Texans on the money line at
plus one oh five.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
I like Houston on the road. I'm with you, with
you too.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Levis is livebo to throw at least one pick six,
I feel, and yeah, I think that's all they need
to win this one. And the Titans are also motivated
to try and keep their top three draft pick.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Right now, I think it's second right now.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
I think Will Levis is going to be motivated by
watching the Duke's Mayo Bowl this evening. He's going to
go out and have a great game with maybe still
one pick six.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
But I like the Titans to win this. Oh Ran
that look, man, he's in your coffee, don't you. Every
year six sick individual Jags taking on the Colts in
the battle of who could care lest This one started
off plus four estay plus four, fifty four percent bets,
seventy one percent of money on the Colts minus four
in this one, over under forty four hasn't moved seventy
(07:27):
eight percent of bets, seventy nine percent of money on
the over on the money line, ninety two percent of bets,
eighty nine percent of money on the Colts in this one.
I like the Jags on the road in an upset
with Mac Gerald in Joe Flacco's probable last.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Ever NFL game. I'm with you.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
I think we see back to back career games. We
get Drew lock in there, we get Mac Jones in there.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
I can't think there's anything more deflating than giving Drew
Locke a top six quarterback performance of the twenty first
century with playoffs on the line. I think the Colts
come out even more flat this weekend and allow.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
The Jags to get a went on them.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah. That that whole culture with Indianapolis Colt seems like
a mess right now, and as you said last night,
they may be parting ways with their longtime GM after
this year. I think the Colts lose again because the
Jags always have their number and the Colts they just
look deflated.
Speaker 6 (08:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
The Jags, by the way, probably the last game for
their general manager at head coach as well, So now
going to be interesting to see how that plays out.
One of the Let's go the afternoon sleep. Nope, still
got more sleet games Commanders Cowboys. That's right, the six
and a half point line. So the Commanders might have
six and a half sixty nine percent of bets, sixty
(08:35):
two percent of money on the Commanders in that one
over understarted forty six and a half down to forty four.
Seventy six percent of bets are on the over, but
sixty eight percent of money is on the under in
this one. That is a forty four percent differential on
the over under. On the money line, Commanders might as
two seventy five eighty nine percent of bets in ninety
four percent of money. And I think that over under
disparity may be due to the fact that it looks
(08:56):
like Trey Lance is going to be the quarterback for
the Cowboys in this one.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
That changes things for me. I was about to say,
I like the Cowboys at least to cover that spread.
Give me the Commanders and give me the Commanders to cover.
I like Free Lance pre Tree draft. That guy cannot
play NFL football. Are the Commanders resting anyone? They're locked
in their seating.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Right, everything's locked, everything's in the bag in this one.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Give me the Cowboys and Tree Lance. I'm gonna take
Washington then Marcus Mariota. Yeah, that guy can't play NFL
football either. Saints at the Bucks. This will start it off.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Saints plus eights out of Saints plus fourteen, eighty three
percent of bets, seventy nine percent of money on the
Bucks laying two touchdowns over Understate just the same at
forty three and a half eighty three percent of bets
and ninety one percent of money on the over in
this one on the money line at minus nine hundred,
ninety six percent of bets, sixty one percent of money
on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I like the Bucks to
win this one.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Yeah, Buck Scott will win this one. Playoff hopes on
the line. They can't let Atlanta crawl back into it.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
I think they win.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
I don't know if they cover, though, that line's pretty big.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
I agree with Zach I think the Bucks win this game,
but I don't think they cover against the Saints.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Fucks win Bucks cover. Mike Evins gets.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
All is all of the incentives, all the contract, and said,
is Baker's on a heater right now.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
I call him the hot pocket right because he only
comes in two flavors, molten lava.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Hot and ice cold. And he's still gonna be molten
lava hot this one. So give me the Bucks paying
the playoffs. Baby can't wait.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
I'm rum rem here for I needed Panthers taking on
the Falcons in Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
This one started off seven a half out the eight
and a half. Now you can find Falcons.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Minus eight some places and not have to give up
an extra book fair sixty five percent of bet sixty
six percent of money on Atlanta minus eight over understarted
forty seven and a half out to forty eight, seventy percent
of bets, seventy percent of money on the over. On
the money line it minus three eighty Atlanta ninety six
percent of bets, eighty four percent of money.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Uh man.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
I like the Falcons to win this, but I like
the Panthers to cover, though I do too. I think
Jon Robinson could give that poorest Panthers defense some maarial trouble,
but eight points is a tough line to cover, especially
with the rookie quarterback that's still sorting out some ups
and downs.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Panthers have been frisky. I think they cover.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Yeah, Panthers have been playing in some close games lately,
but I think the Falcons have too much on.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
The line to lose this game.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
They'll give me the Falcons, but I will also take
the Panthers.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
To cover, all right, Bears at the Packers. Bears started
off plus seven. They're not the plus ten Packers minus ten.
Seventy five percent of bets, seventy four percent of money.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Over under hasn't moved at forty.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
One and a half, eighty one percent of bets, seventy
three percent money on the over on the money line
at minus four fifty five ninety six percent of bets,
ninety four percent of money on the Green Bay Packers. There,
Bears haven't won a game since Duphie mcdufferson was standing there,
you know, given the are you not entertained gladiator posed
to the crowd while they threw a hail Mary behind him,
The Washington Commanders give me the Packers in this one.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Yeah, Packers are much hotter. Bears are ice cool. Just
like the the pop tarts thing. You were talking about
Packers comfortably winning.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Yeah, I agree, Packers win.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
And Cover also said it was hot pockets, not pop darts.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Oh my bad.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
There's a huge difference. The dramatic one one is a
pop tart for your meat. That just doesn't even sound right.
Let that hang in the air, guys. The Giants are
taking on the Eagles. This one started off Giants plus
four and a half is down to Giants plus two
and a half, eighty one percent of bet, seventy four
percent of money on the Eagles minus two and a
half over understart thirty eight and a half down to
thirty seven and a half, eighty eight percent of bet,
(12:17):
sixty seven percent of money on the over all the
money line ninety two percent of BET's ninety eight percent
of money on Philadelphia the Eagles is gonna be a doubt.
Jayla Hurts maybe on Kenny Pickett as well. In this one.
It's no longer December, so we don't have a Drew
Somber to remember. Drew Lock put on an absolute clinic
against the Colts last week.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
I still like the Eagles just on the defensive side of.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Things, but they may rest things and the Giants may
make it another.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Drew Lock highlight game.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
I don't think we will know Jan Drewry this year.
I think it's gonna be Philly winning and cover a
Tane McGee. You know, maybe there's something there. I thought
Helick fennon night last week. I think he wins and covers.
Eagles had the quarterback advantage in this one, and I
think that's a big you. Your hatred for Drew Lock
is just trying to get you to what is Tater
McKee Tanner? Tater McKee ever done in his life but
(13:07):
threw a touchdown last week.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
I like what you did with Drew Locks's name there,
But you know how a lot of people do Dry January.
This is not Drew Simber anymore. But it's gonna be
Drew January. He's just not going to be one more
big time.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Game from Drew Lock.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Yeah he said Jan Drewry, right, Yeah, I said Drew January.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Jane like this too much more trying to be dry.
So I mean I agree with you on that.
Speaker 6 (13:29):
Prout.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Wow, your hatred of Drew Lock knows no bounds like
that's a hair. It's like personal the Gobi Desert Chargers
taking on the Raiders, getting late money coming in on
the Raiders on this one. Bizarrely, Antonio Appearce must be betting.
He needs to lose that money before he loses that job.
Chargers started off minus three and a half. Have to
mind his fort eighty two percent of bets eighty two
(13:50):
percent of money on.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
The Chargers in this one.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Over under start at forty one s to out of
forty and a half, eighty percent of BET's eighty five
percent of money on the over. On the money lne
ninety percent of bets, eighty three percent of money on
the Chargers it minus one ninety two. I love the
Chargers to win this one easily, and I don't know
what people are doing betting on the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
That's something you should never do.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Jim Morva's team isn't lipping into the playoffs. They're gonna
win this one very comfortably.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Yeah, I agree as well. Seahawks at the Rams.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Seahawks started off plus four, they're now minus six and
a half in this one. No Stafford, no Pooka, no
Cooper compet the Rams arresting everybody. Rams plus six and
a half has seventy percent of bets, sixty eight percent
of money over under has plummeted to thirty seven and
a half, eighty eight percent of bets eighty three percent
of money on the over There on the money line,
sixty two percent of bets are on the Seahawks, eighty
seven percent of money on the Rams will split difference there.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
I like the Seahawks. They're not resting folks now.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Resting folks in Gino has those incentive to highlight On
the other night, I think the Seahawks have a good
offensive day against.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Completed in Rams pass rush. Yeah, I agree. I agree.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
This game could have been so interesting if the Seahawks
would have found a way to win one more game.
But I think they'll win it this week, even though
it won't matter.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
The Dolphins are at the Jets playoff hope still alive
on the line for the Dolphins started off minus two
and a half.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Now they're getting one and a half.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Seventy percent of bets are on the Dolphins, but only
forty five percent of money fifty five percent of money
will only thirty percent of bets on the Jets so
the over under started forty two out of thirty eight
and a half, eighty five percent of bets, seventy nine
percent of money on the over on the money line,
seventy eight percent of bets, eighty five percent of money.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
On Miami in this one.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
I like Miami on the road, even with Snoop Huntley
against what.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Could be Aaron rodgers last game.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Oh no, I think Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to go
out as embarrassingly as he.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Did last week. It's new Finally.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
On the other side, I think the Jets got one
more in him. I think the Jets win this one.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
I thought I was going to be the only one
on that, and I think the Jets win this game
as well.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
You know, maybe they'll make them Netflix documentary about it.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Forty nine ers at the Cardinals Niners started off to
a half point favorites. Now they're four and a half
point dog, sixty eight percent of bets, sixty four percent
of money on the Niners plus four and a half
runners started forty six and a half down to forty
two and a half, eighty two percent of bets, seventy
four percent of money on the over, on the money
line minus two ten card sixty one percent of bets,
seventy two percent of money.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Give me Arizona in this one.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
We'll give me the forty nine ers and give me
the forty nine ers to cover. You know, the Lions
won that game. But I thought we saw a lot
of good things from the getting four and a half. Oh,
I thought the Cardinals were getting four an hour, the
Carters laying four and a half.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Oh, that's what I mean. I mean, I think, oh, yeah,
forty nine ers win. I don't know I'm time about
forty nine ers win. Okay.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
We got Vikings Lions on Sunday night, Vikings plus four
and a half down a plus two.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
And a half.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Now fifty six percent of beds, sixty four percent of
money on the Vikings there over runers started fifty one,
it's up to fifty six, sixty eight percent of bed
sixty six percent of money on the over on the
money line, though that might have won forty eight eighty
percent of bets, eighty six percent of money on.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
The Lions on the money line. At home.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
It's interestingly on the spread the Vikings getting that two
and a half people are on it. I like the
Vikings to win this one.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Give me the Lions.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Dan Campbell had his crew ready to win this week
eighteen primetime game when they had nothing to play for.
I think this time, with something to play for, they
lock it up.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
Give me the Vikings for the number one seed in
the NF seed.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Here we go. Hright, Well, I was the pick.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
I We'll save the Broncos Raiders for the NFL six
back a little bit later. I believe you get the
cosmiter from the Athletic joined this next tier in Broncos
Country tonight.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
My Broncos country tonight. But it's been all Brian here
with you.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Five six, six nine zeros and sex LINEA few texts
come then we'll get back to that. Uh here in
just a little bit, John who won the tickets, had
a question about him grand I don't know if you got
a hold of him on that.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
He did reach out on the text I saw. Okay,
all right, just want to make sure they're I have
six six zeros text line.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
You guys want to get involved the conversation, go right
out to the k with Commas Speil hotline. Though, I'm
bringing our guy from the Athletic Cosmiter, Nick how you
doing this evening.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
I'm doing good, man, How are you?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
I'm doing pretty good. We're on the We're on the cosp. Nick,
We're on the the Cospit is now single elimination football
for the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 6 (17:47):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
They've used their parachute. They've used the rest the reserve parachutes.
We're out of parachutes. You got to win this one
and you in. I guess technically the Bengals and ben
Dolphins could lose and you could still make it in.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
But you don't really want to think.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
About things from that perspective as we look at this game.
How how vitally important to the culture that Sean Payton
wants to build is winning this football game and making
the playoffs at this point?
Speaker 6 (18:10):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's essential, right, Like you
never want to like to have one game paint.
Speaker 5 (18:16):
The entire picture of wherever a team might be or whatever.
Speaker 6 (18:20):
Stage they are in a given process.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
But I just think that what they have tried to.
Speaker 6 (18:26):
Commit to in terms of the details and the understanding
how much you know kind of where you are and
to give in a given part of the season, what
you have to.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
Do, laying it all out on.
Speaker 6 (18:39):
Kind of out the open for for for players to
understand and really for the public to understand where they're at.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
That's what they've kind of done. So then to not
be able to kind of fully fully hit that, I
don't know that it would be a complete.
Speaker 6 (18:51):
Indictment on the on the culture they're trying to build,
but it would raise a lot of questions about, you know,
where have they made the missteps. That's something that appeared
to be on that track ultimately didn't make it there.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
And and yet if you if you.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
Do win this game, as they should certainly on Sunday, you.
Speaker 5 (19:10):
Know, you're talking about a team that that won ten games,
that far.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
Exceeded at least external expectations for this team to begin
the year, that had a quarterback who is certainly starting
to show some things. I think all that would be
very encouraging. It's it's quite the swing, you know, and
not just just the outward narrative, but I think internal
decision making, you know, that could kind of hinge on
the outcome of Sunday's game.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
Yeah, I think if you, if you talk to anybody
in the in the preseason at training camp, you said
the Broncos were gonna be on, you know, winning your
in in the final week of the season, every fan
would have been ecstatic. I'm not sure what you projected
the Broncos to win this year. I had I have
at nine games. I hope I wind up being wrong.
But as we look at this now, the the frame
of reference has changed. You know, when you started in training,
(19:56):
campus was a house money year. We're building bo nigs.
The sports have us at five and a half wins.
You know, it's whatever you race out to nine wins,
And all of a sudden it changes because now the
narratives that are coming from this are oh no, or
the Broncos going to choke away three games at the ends.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
You know, this isn't the quarterback he's growing up. This
isn't the defense.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Although it's had some cracks. A lot of it can
be attributed to coaching decisions, whether it's trying to throw
the ball to the other half of the Chargers game,
or not going for two with the you know, and
then try to play for the tie and in overtime
against the Bengals. Sean Payton, the clock on him really
wasn't going to start till next year. But if he
loses this game, does the clock start now?
Speaker 6 (20:37):
Well, I think that, you know, I don't, Like I said,
I don't think that the overall sort of way that
you approach this offseason will wholeheartedly change in terms of
like any kind of decision that you're going to make there.
But I think it would absolutely ramp up the pressure
in terms of what you try to accomplish this offseason
(20:57):
and where you get to in twenty twenty five. And
you're absolutely right about the reframing of expectations because it
reminds me a little bit of when I was covering
the Nuggets. You remember Game eighty two at the end
of the twenty seventeen.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Eighty nor on Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (21:12):
They lose, they missed the playoffs by that one game.
They come out just barnstorming the following year that they're
the number one seed in the West for part of
the year. They end up going to the playoffs as
the number two seed. And then there they are in
the second round of the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
Up seventeen in that.
Speaker 6 (21:29):
Game Game seven against the Blazers. You know, talking about
being that close to going to the West Finals in
the year they were head of schedule, like it still
became a very like crushing and disheartening and kind of
embarrassing collapse.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
In Game seven.
Speaker 6 (21:45):
Even if you zoomed out and you looked at the
big picture and said, man, they got the two seed,
they got.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
The second round of playoffs. If you had started the.
Speaker 6 (21:51):
Season and said that's where they're going, you're gonna be
really excited. But you know, nothing else is guaranteed beyond
where you are now. And so like you've reframed the
next spectations and it's you know, if you want to
talk about pressure being a privileged well you've earned that.
Speaker 5 (22:05):
Here it is, but now you've got to take advantage
of it. That's right.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Talking with Nick Cosmiter of the Athletic Okay, flip side
of that.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
You win and you're in.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
You win this game, you're probably you gotta punch paid
ticket to go, probably get the breaks beat off you
in Buffalo, but who knows, you make the playoffs, and
it's it is what it is.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Broncos beat the Bills. When was it last year? Year
before last? Was the last time that anyway? It was, yeah,
last year they beat the Bills. You know that's not
that long ago. Josh Allen isn't invincible, they do lose games.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
So you know, you make the playoffs and all of
a sudden, you kind of you're back to.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
The team that's playing with house money again.
Speaker 6 (22:39):
Right, Yeah, like certainly right, And then that's kind of
that's kind of the way it goes, and you know
it'll be it'll be a challenge for them to especially
when you have so many you.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
Know, again, there's not a.
Speaker 6 (22:51):
Single homegrown player on this roster who has ever been
to the playoffs, and so you're going to have for
a lot of players if they get this job done Sunday,
which obviously they have really favored to do. If they
get this job done Sunday, like the euphoria right rightfully
should be felt by guys like Garrett Bowles and Courtland
Sutton and Justin s Orna and even the twenty twenty one.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
Draft class that that's been through it like it's a
huge accomplishment.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
But those guys have just.
Speaker 5 (23:15):
Been through the hell of it, to be honest, and
there should be some very real celebration. Yeah, So then
can you come down to earth and go the following
we can play against the Buffalo team that is certainly
more talented, has the home field advantage, all those sorts
of things, you know, But Sean Payton's been in the
playoffs a bunch.
Speaker 6 (23:35):
How does his acumen, how does his ability in those
kind of situations, you know, come to the table in
that sort of environment.
Speaker 5 (23:42):
That'll be like really interesting to see, you know, if
they can get.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Past the Chiefs on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Yeah, we'll talk with Nick Cosmider of the Athletic Sean
Payton has certainly re established professional culture here in Denver,
similar the way John Fox did post Josh McDaniels. You know,
there's there's an actual adult in charge. It's that knows
football in charge of the thing, and so he gets
credit for the culture shift here in Denver. Is the
team you know, raced out to nine wins. But how
much credit should go to often embattled or often previously
(24:11):
unbattled general manager George Payton for sticking to his guns
with certain draft picks and and building this roster surprisingly
better than expected roster through the drafts, passing on players
like Justin Fields to get all world corner Patser tan Oh,
I mean, it's.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
It's a huge part of why there, why they are
where they are, and you know, look, we all know
that that you know, George Payton went through it in
terms of the you know, the eyes of the public,
the criticism that he.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
Took for you know, acquiring Russell Wilson and.
Speaker 6 (24:39):
Hiring Nthaniel Hackett and whatever. But Greg Penner came out
like pretty.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
Early on after that was all done and said, listen,
we we understood where the Broncos were in terms of.
Speaker 6 (24:48):
You know, no you know, no leadership.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
At the top. You know, we were satisfied as.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
What they were attempting to do.
Speaker 6 (24:54):
Like once that, you know, once they were satisfied with
like the explanation of how all that went down, then
you start just okay, well, well what have we done here?
Speaker 5 (25:02):
They have gotten homegrown talent that had been a.
Speaker 6 (25:04):
Huge issue you know, really for for a lot of
the last five six years of John always tenure as
sort of the lead football decision maker and personnel acquisition guy.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
Like, it's been completely different.
Speaker 6 (25:16):
All you got to do is look at his first
draft class. I mean, obviously, yeah, Patzertan is on a
Hall of Fame trajectory.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
But then you have Quinn.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
Minors who very well probably should.
Speaker 6 (25:24):
Have been selected to the Pro Bowl. They've already signed
him to a long term extension. You know, you've got
Jonathan Cooper as a member of that class doing what
he has been able to do.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
And I know Javonte Williams had.
Speaker 6 (25:36):
The injury, but for for a lot of his career
was a pretty significant contributor to what.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
You're what you're trying to do. I mean just just
that class alone.
Speaker 6 (25:43):
And then you go down the list of you know,
grapping two Pro bowlers with the last pick of the
of the second round and back to back drafts like
it's it's been absolutely a huge part.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
Of why they are where they are and you.
Speaker 6 (25:57):
Know, and then they've continue to do it when you
just look at the drift class now and if they
get to the playoffs, it's going to be a huge
part because of what that group helped them do in
their first season. So absolutely that this is a lot
of draft and develop. It took some time to see
that that vision, but the fact that they're strong upfront,
you know, on both sides of the ball. Again, they
(26:19):
don't have the skill talent some of these teams and
they are going to be in this this UH playoff
tournament due UH. But but they've been able to be
competitive because they've built it up front, which.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Is what he said he wanted to do from the.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
Moment that he got here.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
So when Ni Cosmi or the Athletic you know, looking forward,
we're gonna have to make Uh. There's there's probably a
game of musical chairs in terms of who they can extend.
You know, You've got Zach Allen who's coming up needs
an extension.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
You got Nick Bonito who needs a contract extension that'll
that'll come first thing after the at the league year.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
You've got uh. And then you've got Courtland.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Sutton, who's uh, who's played himself into one. But it
feels like you're probably looking at two out of three,
and it feels like you're probably going to the defensive
side of the ball with these spends, with Zach Allen
and and and and Nick Benito's is the ready to
step over into the X role if they move on
from Courtland Sutton and and this is this team. I mean,
(27:07):
I I can't see them going to free agency and
paying top Dollen for a wide receiver.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
Yeah, well, I mean, I'm I'm gonna be really fascinating
to see.
Speaker 6 (27:13):
Whether that's something they entertain, just just because of the
fact that, like, you know, if you're gonna pay huge money,
you know, do you want it to be somebody that
that you think elevates you, you know, to it to
another level that you need to be at.
Speaker 5 (27:28):
From from a from a pass catching talent perspective. You
know that that is something that I believe is kind
of holding his team back still.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
A little bit.
Speaker 6 (27:35):
Now.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
Sean Payton and his staff have always hung.
Speaker 6 (27:38):
On, you know, get us to year two and three
with guys that that you know that we can coach,
that we you know, believe in the way that they work,
and then allow them to get hit that many guys
in the system. Now we're adding to the playbook. Now,
we're expanding it. When you hear guys like Joe Lombardi talk,
you know, when you hear guys like Zack Street.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Talk, you hear a lot of those things.
Speaker 6 (27:57):
About year two, year three and beyond.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
They're big on continuity.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
But the bottom line is that there's just you look
at this long list of alternates right that they got
so through the Pro Bowl, there's not one in a
skill position, and.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
That's going to be critical for.
Speaker 6 (28:11):
Them now whether they actually go out and spend in
free agency at Wiers here, Yeah, that doesn't really work right, so,
but but one way or another.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
They got to do it.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
They have to add talent on.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
That side of the ball.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
And you're right, like, when you have a season like this,
a lot of different guys playing, well, they've already extended
you know, Quinn Miners, Patcher Kay and Jonathan Cooper and
now Garrett bowl Is, Like, you know, it's a lot
and they've got some hard decisions that they're going to
have to make. And we did even mention you know,
DJ Jones, who they probably won't be able to keep,
but we'll need to get somebody else.
Speaker 5 (28:41):
In that role as well.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
So, yeah, George and Richard Toddo and all those guys
are gonna have their work cut out for them this
offseason because they have probably more tough decisions I would say.
Speaker 5 (28:53):
Better decisions right that they have to make them them
just like last year was you know how many are
we cutting? So so better problems to have, but still, nonetheless,
you know some challenges.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Yeah, certainly rather be who are we paying rather than
who are we cutting?
Speaker 1 (29:07):
Take the dead cap teving the Cosmo to the athletic well,
one of those weapons that emerged and exploded. Really in
the last game. Somebody this befuddled me with his usage.
Owel season is morph and Mims. We continue to use
Troy Franklin, a wide receiver does not track the ball
well over his shoulder vertically. Troy Franklin, you go back
to the college tape as a guy, you flash the
numbers back toward the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
That's where he's at his home.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Meanwhile, we continue use him vertically at Martin Mims not
at all. Then all of a sudden we start using
Martin ms vertically and we see what we get is
was that the inflection.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Points for those two receivers last game?
Speaker 5 (29:37):
Well, I it should be, I think, and you.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
Know again, and I think Troy Franklin has the ability
to you know, to grow and develop, but that deep
connection has not been there this year, and so that, yeah,
that's it's kind of a challenging time to try to,
you know, try to get that. I know, he got
open and you know, maybe the throw could have been
a little bit more but or a little bit more perfect,
I guess.
Speaker 5 (30:00):
But yeah, that that has been that has been an issue.
Speaker 6 (30:02):
Whereas here you got Marvin Mems and it was this
is gonna ask him the other day, like, you know,
I said, what's there's sort of mental process for you know,
compartmentalizing all that he has to do with right the
he's a returner and both the punts and the kickoff units.
He's he's doing this backfield role where he's not only
you know, being a receiver out of there, but actually
carrying the football at time. So he's spending time with
(30:23):
Louiyani and that group in the running backs room, you know,
and then of course just sort of as an outside
wide receiver. And he said, you know, a lot of
it just comes down to the way that that I
study and then ultimately.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
His process for memorizing a lot.
Speaker 6 (30:36):
Of different things is what he leans on. But then
he says, he's like, at the end of the day,
it's it's just being a playmaker and understanding that I
have the opportunity of these different roles right now to
make plays.
Speaker 5 (30:46):
And I got to take advantage of that.
Speaker 6 (30:48):
And and what you know, what was a greater illustration
of that then, you know, fourth and.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
One game on the line, the five foot.
Speaker 6 (30:54):
Eleven wide receiver going up between two defensive.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
Backs in the in the side of the end zone.
I mean that was just you know, it.
Speaker 6 (31:00):
Was a playmaker play and and so yeah, I think
hopefully that in the eyes of the staff and is
something that's going to get him more opportunities. And you know,
Jill Lombarty said this week, like, there's not a.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
Game that we've gone into where.
Speaker 6 (31:13):
We haven't had like these plays targeted for men's and
it doesn't help. But they're down near the bottom of
the league in terms of three and out percentage because
you just don't get.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
To as many of those things in as many.
Speaker 6 (31:21):
Situations as you want. But but you know, I hopefully
now there's just like, hey, less excuses one way or another.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
We just got to keep coming to this guy.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Yeah, I well said, and I think that's that's the
way it's got to be. What's your finger on the
pulse of this thing this weekend? I didn't like our
odds last two weeks. I'm kind of liking it this week,
especially with how many players kids. The city's going to
be resting for this one. What do you think about
the game this weekend?
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Yeah, you know, and that was kind of the bottom
line too.
Speaker 6 (31:47):
Look, the Broncos weren't favoring either of those games for reason,
they're playing elite quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
You know that.
Speaker 6 (31:52):
The Bengals, obviously they're they're playoff lives on the line.
The Chargers coming off a couple of losses, we're in
that similar desperation though those were just those are to
spots on the road and it's not as if Denver
got the doors blown off like so, I think I
was not the same way. I had not picked them
to win either one of those games, just because of
those situations.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
Sunday is different.
Speaker 6 (32:12):
And look, I think this team that the way I
like a sort of a relaxed focus.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
I think like guys in the locker.
Speaker 6 (32:19):
Room just seemed pretty you know, pretty loose about what
they've got coming on and quote un said and said it.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
Best like it's one of those where it's just like.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
It's just win.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
Like there there's no there's not really a lot to say, like.
Speaker 6 (32:32):
You you have to beat Carson Wentz and the majority.
Speaker 5 (32:35):
Of Chief reserves at home with the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
On the line, Like at the end of the day,
there's just nothing else to be said other than what
you got to go out there and do. And I think,
you know, I just think they come too far. I
think there's it's handled business and like those, you've.
Speaker 5 (32:49):
Got to win them. You have to have them kind
of games.
Speaker 6 (32:52):
For me to think that that they would squander this,
I think they'll take care of business on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Looking forward to it all right, Nick, I appreciate the
time this evening and let's go Broncos.
Speaker 5 (33:02):
Thanks man.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
I appreciate your time absolutely, Nick Cosmo or the Athletic.
Looking forward to to the game this weekend. We got
Parker Gabriel never posts. We come back Broncos Country to
Night
