Speaker 1 (00:00):
Shout out to Dave Tepper for joining us in the
last segment to a little pick them so when he
gets to sit in and do a little pick them
with it, and I am fully expecting a gallon of Martinelli's.
By the way, if if, if my Buffalo bills beat
you all as Baltimore ravens uh this weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
I don't recall you actually officially making said bet and
tepraah and I accepting.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah, like what, I totally blew past the port where
accepted in return the thanks of a greatful nation for
shouting out was that I could do without that.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
I mean I could do with that. You got a
whole issue out.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
There that.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
I can't wait. Come spirrel, hotlight and.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Bring out our good friend from CBS, Roby Be and Romeo.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Are you doing this evening? I'm not good, you know, yeah,
a little bit of that. It's supposed to be real cold.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Matter of fact, it's spitting a little snow out there too,
and worried about making it home.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
We'll see see how that goes. Uh. Well, the Broncos
have wrapped the season. Put a bow on it.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Uh Hey, you know, disappointing end to what overall was
probably a pretty successful season. You made the playoffs, got
about five hundred. Looks like you found a quarterback. Yeah,
as we as we look back on this season, what
are you what are you taking away from this team overall?

Speaker 4 (01:09):
You know, I think it's it's hard to look at
it as a disappointment, I think honestly. I mean, obviously
I realize everyone inside that locker rooms disappointed, but for me,
you know, it was like a little bit of a weird,
out of body experience, to be honest, Like at the
Bills game where I said this to somebody, I said,
this is kind of bizarre because this is the one
time that we'll be, you know, watching a Broncos team

(01:32):
in the playoffs in a long time where there's no expectations.
Next year, there's expectations. The expectations are to get in,
to get farther, and so it was it was strange,
like I've never really approached, you know, a game in
that sense, but to me it did feel that way. Again,
I realized, not the guys inside the locker room.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
But for me.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
You look at the season and it was successful in
so many ways, obviously the biggest one being they found
their quarterback. Of the future, you know, kind of start
starts and ends there. But you go into the off
season with so much stability, so much continuity, you know,
obviously from the top down ownership, head, coach, quarterback. You
don't have a ton of guys leaving, and you have

(02:10):
more money now that you're so much more out from
under the rest contract. There's still a little more this year,
but the dead money this year, I mean, it's nothing
compared to this past season. So I think you go
into it, you can fix the spots that really needed
fixing that plagued the team all season along, But when
you look at it as a whole, I think it's
just there are so many pieces of the season that

(02:33):
were really, really successful and they can really just only
build on it, and you're not losing a ton of
pieces as now you head into a season with more expectations.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Romie, what do you make of coach bayden end of
season comments when he uttered, and this is me paraphrasing here,
when he said, well, we felt really good about our
chances facing our next opponent had the team beat the
Buffalo bit, What did you.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Make of that?

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Yeah, you know, I feel like I had two reactions
like I think, on the one hand, that's great. You
should feel like you can beat the Chiefs. You should
feel like the gap is not as far as maybe
some other people think it is. All of those things,
and I think one thing about Sean Payton is that
he is still a tremendous amount of confidence in this
locker room, in this young team. And I think, you know,

(03:23):
you go back to the first game against the Chiefs,
and they weren't that far off, you know, so Greg
Penner kind of doubled down and said we should have
been to and oh, well, it's kind of hard to
say because that last game doesn't really count as the Chiefs,
right if we're being honest. But I think based on
how they played them the first time around, they feel confident.
I took it more as a they feel that they

(03:44):
can win the division. They feel that they contend, can
contend with the Chiefs. I always go back to, and
I hate to go back to this, but you know,
the Chiefs, until proven otherwise, are still the Chiefs. So
everybody can say that and that's all good and fun,
but until you're really beating the Chiefs, until you're taking
back division title, it's all just words. But I like
the competence, and I think you should always approach approach here,

(04:07):
for you're kind of with that competence.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, I like I do like framing everything through the
lens of we're on the same level or the excellence.
I enjoy that for it, But I don't like painting
the target on the backs of your players. Did it
before when you you put that interview in USA Today
and said Nate Hackett was the worst coaching job ever. Uh,
and then you got then you got served a big
old heap in a humble pie when the Jets with
Zach Wilson put it to you, I worry that given

(04:31):
Andy Reid gas gasoline is gonna it is gonna blow
up in Sean Payton's face. Well, I guess that remains
to be seen.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Uh, today we touchdown.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yeah, I just really, you know, I just don't like
giving my opponent's bulletin board material.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
I just don't.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
We did have a firing today, ben Kuika A bit
of a surprise, I think, as a lot of people
thought that he'd done a pretty good job overall.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
What did you make of that move?

Speaker 4 (05:00):
I was pretty surprised too, especially when you just look
at the tremendous turnaround from Special Teams. And I guess
the only really big Special Teams gaff was you go
back to that Chiefs game. But really, outside of that,
Special Teams they just call back to two three years ago.
I mean, just so awful. I was surprised about it.

(05:21):
I feel like Special Teams are in a good place. Obviously,
you've got you all pro and Marvin Dims at returner,
but it's not just that the tackling. I mean in general,
I feel like Special Teams much more often than not,
has been really stellar this year. So that wouldn't be
catch me by surprise. I'm curious to see what they're
going to be kind of got to do next. But
when you look at Special Teams as a whole, I'm

(05:42):
not sure how much more you know, you could have
expected them to do better than they did this year.
So that one did for me personally caught me by surprise,
all right.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
And I know there's several members of Broncos Country they're
really thinking about this particular.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Little player, and as Nick and I don't think there
has been.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Any contract Taughts as far as an extension for Nick Benito.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
As of late, can't be until beginning the next fiscal year.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
With that being said, what do you think the deal
will possibly look like? I know, hypothetically speaking, but what
do you think the deal could look like or should
look like for an elite pass rusher like Nick Benito?

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Well, you gotta pay him top money. I mean, there's
no question about it. You can't ask Nick Bonito to
take a hometown discount, especially if this is a deal
that you certainly want to get done before he hits
the open market, right you don't want to be dealing
next offseason that he's tested the waters in the open market.
And when you talk about they've got a great tandem
there with Benito and with Johnastan Cooper, and I think

(06:49):
with Benito you can only expect him to continue at
this level and continue to get better. There's no signs
really that it's just like a oh, one year thing.
So I think they're gonna have to pay a big
mone that's the biggest thing. You know. You can't can't
kind of try to go cheap on him and hope
that he signs because I'm sure he's got smart management
and that's just not gonna happen. Right then he hits

(07:10):
the open market, But I think you're just gonna have
to pay him top dollar playing in simple when you
find a good pass rusher, you want to keep him.
He's young, he's such a big part of this core.
You know, he checks all the boxes, if you will.
So if they want to get that done, you know,
mid season's pam top dollar.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah, I think so too.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
At the other day, I mean, you gotta have a
pretty highly paid tandem there in Cooper and and Benito
with the young guy Ellis coming up, you know, right
behind him, And I think that's the you know, the
ideal set up. You go back and you look at
the Super Bowl defense. You kind of had that with
Vaughn and in DeMarcus Ware and you had Jack Barrett,
you know, lurking behind the scenes.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
A good way to have that that set up there.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
As we look forward to the next season, what do
you think is the biggest off season need for this
Denver Broncos team.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
I'm running back, running back, running back, running back, but
tight end also. But I think, and Sean did, they's
not going to have a Bell cow back. That's fine,
but he also admitted that you know, you didn't have
he couldn't figure out the combination this year, and it
didn't seem to work. So whatever that looks like, you
have to figure that out. Bonicks should not be your
leading rusher and the majority of games, you know, and

(08:17):
going forward, we all know that that's not sustainable, you know,
unless you've got a Lamar you know, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen,
it's few and far between. So I didn't like that
Boenix was the leading rusher so many times this season.
Whether that's the draft, whether that's free agency, maybe it's both.
That position really really has to be bolstered, and I
think maybe there has to be some sort of a

(08:39):
philosophical approach of how they're going to look at running back.
I think it's really hard for the way the running
back position went this year. Right, You even look in
a you know, so many the Lions, for example, how
they kind of split duties, but they'd split them by series.
I mean, these guys were getting split by play, right.
We even saw a series in the in the Bills

(08:59):
game where but they went, he did a run, then
Javante went, you know, then Julia went. I think it's
that's just a really hard position to run it in
that way. So I don't know. I'm not going to
tell anybody how to run run there too, but it
feels like a philosophical approach of how you're going to
utilize your running backs because this year obviously obviously didn't work.
And you know, I also like to see them get

(09:21):
a true, a true big pass catching tight end. Obviously
I'm banging the table for Tyler Warren, that's my hope
for this year, but none either way. I mean, they
do have tight ends that are serviceable and they block well,
which is always important, but you'd love to see them.
I mean, the Broncos haven't had like a true, true
dangerous tight end since what Julius Thomas and you could

(09:44):
argue that might have been more of a product for
Peyton Manning or not, but it's been a long time,
so would certainly not that they haven't tried, right, they
tried to say, they tried to Sulfinch, just hasn't worked yet.
Really like to see that fightally work well me.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
I know the last game of the season may not
have been in thinkative of what I'm about to ask you,
but how vital has it been this entire season as
far as how well the defense has played to compliment
the offense and give them an opportunity.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
How important was that defense this season, Oh a thousand percent.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
I mean, you know what they say, right, defense wins championships.
But there were so many games this season where the
defense able to hold other offenses to really low low
point totals or keep the Broncos of the game so
many times, and there were times where we saw the offense,
you know, play that complimentary ball and scour points out
of it. There were times where we saw them not

(10:37):
like go back to the beginning of you know, the
Bengals game, right when you cause back to back turnover
on downs and the offense isn't able to get points,
but later in the game they're able to make it
a game. The defense kept in it so many times.
I think that was so crucial for bo Nicks's development
to have that stability where the games, with the exception
of some never truly got out of hand, and so

(11:00):
much because of the defense. I think it's a young quarterback,
you truly can't ask for anything better than to have
the defense like that, and the defense as a whole
not going to see too many changes there either, So
you should expect that unit to be the same, if
not better going into next season.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Talking with Roby Bean from CBS, Romby, you know, the
Nuggets come out get the big win tonight over the
Miami Heat. Was the return of Jimmy Butler in that one,
but he wasn't really the biggest factor. He did end
up with eighteen points, but wasn't much of a factor
in the first half of that game. Meanwhile, Nicole another
triple double, and they continue to go with this starting
lineup that has Jamal a red hot Jamal Murray and

(11:39):
Russell Westbrook in it, and it appears to be the
most effective lineup bringing Aaron Gordony in off the bench.
What do you think of the way that they've kind
of changed the lineup here.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
Yeah, I think Russell Westbrooks impact as a starter is undeniable.
I mean, what's the record at this point, I don't know,
fifteen and four, fifteen and five, something like that. When
Russ is the starter, it's undeniable. And I think that
there's nothing that fuels Jabal more than seeing Russell Westbrook
playing really well and potentially gun in for some of

(12:07):
his minutes. I think it's really good for Jamal. They'll
probably never admit that, but I think the writing's kind
of on the wall in that one. So there's that part,
and there's just you know what Russ brings undeniable. He's
been such a big factor. He's got such great chemistry
with Kolokic. And the thing is, I think if they
went with this kind of a lineup, the one great
thing about Aaron Gordon is he is the ultimate team player,

(12:30):
like AG is, let me know where you want me,
and you know, he is the ultimate whatever it takes
to win a championship. Obviously that means the last minutes
with Yokic, and I think they have a really great
two man games. So you don't love to see that
part go. But I think AG is the kind of
guy that would be totally willing if this helps the team.
You stagger him a little bit, He'll still get minutes

(12:50):
with Jokic. He's not a guy that would put up
a stink. And what's happening right now is it's working
for the Nuggets, and I think you gotta go with
you know, you got to feed the hot hand, you
got to feed the hot lineup. It's working well.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Speaking of feet in the hot lineup, I mean there
are some Nuggets fans who looking at this particular roster
the way is constructed and hoping that Cavin Boots kind
of makes the moves to kind of keep these championship
hopes alive for the Denver Nuggets. Do you think if
the Nuggets left the roster where it is right now,
that they can actually take this group and go on

(13:24):
another championship run or do they need to make some
adjustments set a roster.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
I would like to see them make some adjustments, But realistically,
in the playoffs, the bench plays so little. Yell Kitch
plays sometimes he'll play forty eight minutes, but you know,
y'all Kitch in the starting lineup, they'll play forty two minutes.
It's just so different than the regular season where you
just see so much less of the bench unit. And
so I think that really, if you're getting this kind

(13:52):
of production from Jamal Murray, you continue to get this
production off from Russell Westbrook and Christian Brown's obviously even
been fantastic, then I I really do think they have
the chance because you just see the bench so little, honestly,
in the playoffs that if this is continues to work
this way and Jamal continues to produce. That's the big
X factor. Jamal has to be the second best player

(14:14):
on this team behind Nicole Jokic every single game. He
does usually show up in the playoffs, but you never know, right,
And I think so, I think they can. I really
think that they've found something now and this this chemistry
is working really well with inserting Less as the starting lineup.
More so, what I like to see them Mouster, Yes,
But do I think they could do without? Yes, just

(14:34):
because of how playoff lineups usually work, and we're not
going to see Julian Straw that very much in the playoffs.
We'lloom for a little bit Stayton Watson for a little bit,
not a lot.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
You know, Rollie, what do you real quick here?

Speaker 1 (14:45):
What do you think about the Rockies in the offseason
They've kind of had with almost no moves. You know,
there's a lot of people that I think are disappointed
in the fact they didn't make a lot of moves.
But I'm looking at this is maybe they believe this
young core growing into something thing.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Finally, do we have any hope for the Colorado Rocky Yeah?

Speaker 4 (15:05):
I love your glass half full approach, but the problem
is one of the Rocky's ever done anything signess I can.
I mean every once in a while. Let's not call
Chris Bryant significant because anybody who was like remotely behind
the scenes, and I don't consider myself to be a
particularly in the no person of baseball. And I even
heard so much of what a bad move that was,

(15:25):
and that just tells you how bad a move that was. So,
you know, signing Nolan, you know, they just the Rockies
continue to not make big moves in the off season,
so them doing that here, I do think they believe
in their young core, but I don't really think that's
the real reason behind that. I think that's just business
as usual for them. However, I do think that they
have a really potentially special young core that could do something,

(15:48):
that could grow into something. The problem is, look at
your division. What are the Rockies chances in this division
to finish right fourth third? Maybe you know, so within
your own division, just getting out of that, it's kind
of impossible. So I'd like to think there's hope. I
think that there is a lot of potential with this

(16:09):
young lineup, and I hope to see it come to fruition.
But you know, that depends on pitching again, in and out.
And as much as we all love Kyle Freeland, will
Kyle Freelan ever be an ace again? I'm not so sure.
I'd like to, you know, hope he reverts back to
twenty eighteen Kyle Freeland. But that's getting farther and farther away,
So the pitching rotation I don't still kind of haves questions.

(16:32):
But you know, we're always hopeful here. What is what
is this time of year forest not to be hopeful
for the rocky young line.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Well, we're hopeful and looking forward to talking to you
again here soon.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
Appreciate you and have a great weekend. Romy appreciate you, guys.
Stay warm, all right, to take care romy be CBS
brocos Cutry night back after this. Hope he am is
out of a drug, guys.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
iHeart As partner with a Dream Center, we're taking domations
for families affected by the southern California wildfires. You guys
want to donate to residence I need you can text relief.
It's our E L I E F two three three
one zero zero. And at that it's time for the
NFL six pack.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
It's time for the NFL six pack.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
I'm gonna take the last year of the guy insight
and insight information you can't find anywhere else.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
No.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Six the top six NFL headline what. Saints have completed.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
A virtual interview with Bill's offensive coordinator Joe Brady for
their head coaching position. Saints have also interviewed interim coach
and Darren Rizzy. Brady, who is thirty five's in his
third season with the Bills, was a quarterbacks coach until
stepping into interim coordinator job last year.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
You got to start in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
With a Saints serving as an offensive assistant under former
head coach Sean Payton back in twenty seventeen. In twenty eighteen,
Saints also completed interviews with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn,
Giants offensive cordator Mike Kafka, and defensive coordinator of the
Dolphins Anthony Weaver.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
They have a scheduled interview.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
With Commander's offensive coordinator Cliff Kingsbury, and have requested Eagles
offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. The current front runners are expected
to be Aaron Glenn.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Mike McCarthy, and Joe Brady.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Joe got the job with the Bills because the Broncos
beat up on the Bills and beat them on Monday
Night Football last year. Joe Brady, of course, that offense
put it to the Broncos this year. What do you
think at Joe Brady's chances to get the Saints job.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
I like that idea because Joe Brady spent some time
under Sean Payton for a short period of time down
in New Orleans, and you just kind of look at
the growth of Josh Allen from a pass catching standpoint,
not just his athleticism, and look at how Joe Brady
deployed his offense when they played against the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
It wasn't a lot of shots down the field.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
It was very slow, methodical, It was real efficient, and
it took advantage of the skills set that Josh Allen has. Now.
The only issue is if he were to take the
job down in New Orleans, he doesn't have a Josh
Allen Yeah, so he's gonna have to be more creative
than he's been before.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
But it definitely shows that he is.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
Up and coming offensive coordinator and if he doesn't get
a job his cycle, he would definitely get one maybe
two or three years from that.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
We love the three front runners there, Brady, Mike McCarthy,
and Aaron Glenn.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
Who would you rather have coaching the Saints? You know
what I would say?

Speaker 2 (19:19):
For me, I'm a little bias here because I know
Aaron Glenn and Eric Glenn, just like Joe Brady, spent
some time down in New Orleans and they just had
a defensive minded coach. But Aaron is both an offense
and defensive minded coach as well. So I would like
to see Aaron get his opportunity down in New Orleans.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
I think he's gonna have one of two jobs. That'll
be to be the New York Jets or the New
Orleans Saints too. But he's name that's surprising that has
come up in this coaching cycle as Ron Rivera. His
name is in the mix for yet another head coaching opening.
Albert Breer reporting that Rivera's interviewing with the Raiders. He
was interviewed with him today. He's already interviewed with the
Jets and the Bears. Speculation has linked the Raiders to
Ben Johnson, although I'm not so sure about that one.

(19:59):
I still think Pete Carroll and play there. Rivera was
fired as the commander's coach after the twenty twenty three
season as a career record of one two, one o
three and two between Washington and Carolina. Obviously, his history
with the Bears is a player. But what do you
think about the Jets, the Bears, the Raiders, and the
Cowboys all interviewing Ron Rivera this cycle?

Speaker 2 (20:18):
I like it and I understand why because Coach Rivera
did a great job with Carolina and Cam Newton and
taking them to the Super Bowl where the ultimately lots
of Denver Broncos. You look at the framework of what's
being pieced together in Chicago, a place where Ron Rivera
played as a player. They have Caleb Williams, who is

(20:38):
not Cam Newton, but he is mobile and he's able
to move around. And oh, by the way, they already
have a defensive personnel in place where Ron Rivera can
step in and lead that group similar to what he
did with Carolina. And of all those places, I would
dare to say for me, it's not gonna happen, but
the Bears would be a perfect fit for Ron Rivera.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
Sorry, A lot of volatility around the betting on the
next head coach for the Dallas Cowboys that week started
with Dion Sanders out in front, which is absurd, but
a ton of money came in on somebody who was
not in.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
The top five and Kellen Moore.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
That volatility prompted DraftKings to stop the betting. Wagers now
finally being taken again. After Kellen Moore's odds have now
moved to minus one fifty after being a huge plus
odds earlier, he virtually for the position today is now
the current favorite, and second on the list appears Dion Sanders,
who has now moved from plus one hundred and plus
two hundred earlier this week he was obviously the favorite.

(21:42):
Brian Schottenheimer is third on the list at plus two
to fifty. The list has sixty names in glead Bill
Belichick at twelve to one. Eagles fans might not be
thrilled by the fact that Moore took out time for
prepping with a playoff game to go interview with the rival,
but well, some might try to downplay the exercise. Is
definitely a distraction, you know when you're when you're interviewing
during the.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Playoff run or race.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
As it were, not a slide against Keller Moore and
every assistant coach.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Has to do it. But Moore, who's the former.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Boise State quarterback, spent three seasons with the Lions and
three with the Cowboys, a player, worked as a coach
for Dallas for five years, was the offensive coordinator for
four of them, had the same role with the Chargers
in twenty twenty three or four, landing with the Eagles
in twenty twenty four. When to think about the possibility
of Keller Moore I being the next head coach the
Dallas Cowboys, I would like.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
To see it because here's a great part about it.
Dason Garrett has already done this already. But the part
that makes sense for me, you have a guy who
once backed up Dak Prescott who is now coming in
to lead Dak Prescott. That would be funny within itself,

(22:47):
just to see Keller Moore if they're talking about a
guy that he was trying to I guess, overtake.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
At the quarterback position.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Keller Moore has seen definitely a lot in his years,
spending time in Dallas as a coordinator, as a player,
but also spending time you know, in Philly with you know,
Jalen Hurts. To understand the life of a mobile quarterback.
When you are not one yourself. You know exactly what
to do from a play design standpoint. So everyone would
like to see Kelln Moore get that job in Dallas.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
It's sort of funny because he's had mobile quarterbacks as
a coordinator as whole. You know, whether it's Hurts, Dak
Prescott or Justin Herbert, you know his think. I think
the first question I'd have to ask him is why
did this offense get better when Brian Schottenheimer took over
for you?

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Well, he's gonna say, well, see what had happened more.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
Than half of the wells, right, you know. I Jerry
has a known affinity for his former quarterback coaches. You know,
Sean Payton was there for a while, obviously, Jason Garrett which.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
Shardy mentioned, and now Kellen Moore.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
His infinity for those. I would not be surprised to
see Kellen Moore ultimately wind up getting that job or
Speaking of former quarterbacks, the Jets completed an interview with
Josh McCown for.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Their head coaching vacancy.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
McCown was a quarterback for the Jets in twenty seventeen
twenty eighteen.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Currently the Vikings quarterbacks coach.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
He joined Minnesota prior to this season, helps Sam Darnold,
his former teammates, set career highs in passing yards, touchdowns,
and completion percentage. McCown began his NFL coaching career with
the Panthers back in twenty twenty three, helped develop then
rookie quarterback Bryce Young, who's had a much better year
this year.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
However, McCown was drafted by the Cardinals in the third
round back in two thousand and two.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Sam Houston State played for twelve teams in his sixteen
year career and his playing career with the Texans in
twenty twenty finished his career with seventeen thousand, seven or
thirty one passing yards, ninety eight touchdowns, eighty two interceptions
in one hundred and two games. The Jets also requested
the interview or completed an interview with Joe Brady, who
we talked about. Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who many
speculate if they don't get Aaron Glenn would be the

(24:41):
favorite for the job.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
With McCown as his OC and many.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Others including Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. Do we think
that Josh McCown's in the running for head coach er
is the actually the interviewing for offensive coordinator problem more.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Like offensive coordinator, And you know what, I like the idea.
And I wasn't going to say anything negative about mccalm
getting this opportunity. I know early on in his career
he got an opportunity with I believe the Houston Texas
where they interviewed him, and I thought that was a
tad bit too early. But I'm all for former players
getting these opportunities, getting the shot to really show people

(25:16):
that they can take what they've learned from players and
translate it and become great head coaches and coordinator.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
So I'm a fan of it, and we'll see what
we we''ll see what happens.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
Five h Saquon Barkley came out and said that Jared
Versus comments probably weren't the smartest thing to say.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
RAMS linebacker Jared vers.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
Grew up in Pennsylvania, so it's it's safe to say
he didn't grow up an Eagles fan.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
Must have been a Steelers guy. Told The La Times
this week that he's always despised.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Eagles fans, saying, quote, I hate Eagles fans they're so annoying.
I hate Eagles fans when I see that green and white,
I hate it. I actually get upset. I actually genuinely
get hot. Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, he played six
seasons with the Rifle Giants, chuck when asked about Versus comment, uh,
say quote, probably not the smartest thing to say if
you're coming to Philadelphia, said.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
This bea Elliott shot Parks on ninety four.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
W ip.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
I've been on the other side, and even if I've
helt some type of way, I probably wouldn't give them
any extra fuel. Pretty sure Philly fans have seen that comment,
and it was only going to be loud and rocking.
This is going to add to it. Eagles fans, of course,
known a little bit for their nastiness. The getting nasty
and louder comes Sunday against the Rams.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
They call it the City of Brotherly Love for reasons
that ironic.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
Yes, once again you never want to give your opponent.
But more importantly, the fan base a kind of rowdy
fan base, because I mean the Rams lose that game,
I mean does Eagles fans.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Might even go back to the bus and just it's
Santa let's they check the Eagles fans and technical coo.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Yeah, there certain fan bases that you don't want to
roll up in the Eagles fan base, it's not I mean,
there's a reason that they coined the phrase broad Street
bullies for one of the hockey teams.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
For a reason. Uh huh. You don't want to do this.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
But for Philadelphia this plays well for them as there's gonna.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Be a lot of booze in that game.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
There are And you know, maybe if you're writing the
Bible on what not to do, you already to dedicate chapters.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
You've already got a verse.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Yes, six, This one was the big story of today,
and this one I wanted to get to. It's not
NFL's College football chaos is continuing for college football with
the collapse of the transfer portal.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
I don't know if you guys saw this today.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
College football continues to experience the chaos it deserves, but
thanks to a decades of blatant anti trust violations that
limited players to an education they didn't match the value
they brought to their school, the model has collapsed in
recent years thanks to a stream of slam nut lawsuits
attacking the habit of independent businesses coming together under the
umbrella of the NCAA to rig and cap labor expenses. Right,

(27:57):
Lady's chunk of chaos comes from the apparent collapse in
the transfer portal.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
After Wisconsin refuse to.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Allow cornerback Xavier Lucas to enter the portal, he left
the school and transferred to Miami. The NCAA, which apparently
has learned the lesson of multiple failed ANCI trust cases,
has thrown the door open for transfers beyond the parameter
of the portal, saying quotes NCAA rules do not prevent
a student athlete from unenrolling from an institution that will
only get a new institution and competing immediately, said the

(28:23):
NCAA in a statement to Rossdellinger on Yahoo dot com.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
That's another way of saying the transfer portal doesn't mean
a thing.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
That players have the same freedom that students do to
switch schools whenever they want.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
Take it to its extreme.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
Could an Ohio State player transferred to Notre Dame before
Monday nights championship game.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Under what the NCAA is saying today, there's really no
solution to the free market market experience now afforded to
those who previously paid for free. And there are only
two ways to restore order at this point. One the
lobby Congress to create a national framework for paying college
athletes and binding them to their schools for specific contract terms.
Or two, welcome a union that would operate as a
multi employer bargaining unit with a full blown collective bargaining

(29:04):
agreement that creates the same sort of rules that apply
to professional athletes. The NCAA basically, Wisconsin.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Didn't want their corner to transfer.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
He did it anyway and started competing immediately, and then
CNAA is like, well, actually, we never had a rule.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
In place that says you couldn't do this.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Well, that's the one thing that happens when the whole
transfer portal is kind of like the wild wild West.
There are no rules, there's no sheriff, there's no one
to kind of keep the train on the tracks. And
I thought this thought for since the transfer portal even
opened and the conversation about it, that there needed to

(29:40):
be a governing body, a governing body not just for
the athletes, but for the so called agents and all
those individuals involved and.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
The institutions themselves to kind of regulate it.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
So we're getting to that point where they're going to
have to do something. And I know they don't want
to incorporate a union because usually when you incorporate the reunion,
that means jobs stop, its games can be stopped, and
colleges want to definitely make sure they're avoided. But I
think that is the right direction. But I will say this,

(30:12):
I know it was suggested that maybe Nick Saban lead
that charge. I'm gonna say no, leader exactly, he is
the worst person. They need a somewhat of a committee,
a subcommittee where you have more people on that committee
that can kind of figure these things out. My nominee
is Tony Dungee to be on that committe.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
It's good.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
That's a good call. That's good.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Him and Hermitward's probably both both could be in that
in that in that room, amongst.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
Amongst some others.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
It's fascinating to me though, because I wonder how many
people who lost years of eligibility due to transfer rules
are now looking at the n C double A side
eye as the n C double A says, oh we
never had that rule.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Yes, you know what.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Once again, it's another thing to say you never had
the rule, nothing not to check it.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
So obviously this is.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Where you need someone a subcommittee to help inform these players.
If you're going to make this move in the portal
trying to get more NIL money, you will need to
know these particular things to make sure that you don't
get yourself and somewhat of a rut. So this is
only just kind of highlights the fact that there needs
to be more regulations when it comes to the transfer

(31:22):
port itself.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Well, and they've got to do That's the thing.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
Like the NCAA as a governing body is now effectively toothless,
Like what are you gonna do? Like they don't they
don't do anything anymore other than handle logistics, So why
even have them. That's what I'm saying that you need
a governing body in place that's gonna work. The NCAA
is dead, I mean, for all intensive purposes, is dead.
He does there are a lot of things the NCAA
does that a new governing body and someone else is

(31:45):
going to have to pick up the vacuum. But the
NCAA was a bloated institution that hired way too many people,
had way too much going on there, and the reality
is it needs to be simplified with a governing body
that has actual penalties for violations, because the self imposed
sanctions that these schools put out for the last couple
of decades were jokes.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
So you need you need an.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
Effective organization that actually has discipline authority, and it needs
to be able to crack down on a lot of
these things, a lot of different things. We have the
like you said, the agents that are taking advantage of players. Uh,
and now we got this stuff for the transfer portal
here where they're claiming they never had a rule. Sounds
like we need Nick Ferguson and Benjamin Albright in charge
of this.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
Nobody nobody wants to be in charge.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
I'll do it, Nick can do it, and I'll make
snarky comments.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
How about that deal deal deal fucus country. Tonight after this,
I'm visiting an all Bright and I'm better than you.
Your soul is mine. Super freaking ow.
