Speaker 1 (00:00):
KIOE super Week New Orleans with Anthony Rodriguez presented about
Chevron Colorado while all the coverage on KIOWI social media channels.
Or were you just turn on NFL Network and see
a Rod down there asking Saquon Barkley questions a.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Errod, How you doing, buddy, gentleman, I am doing fantastic
taking in all the things super weak right here in
the Superdome, currently staring at the face of Zach Vaughan.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
How are you guys doing, We're.

Speaker 4 (00:21):
Doing pretty well.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Looking at some some clips coming out of there, looks
like obviously Dick Siriotty got a surprise visit from shadow
Cho Senko kissing him on the cheek there.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
But what's jumped out at you so.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Far at the outset of Super Week down there in
New Orleans.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well, i'll pick you back right off at that point
right there, I'll tell you someone else's doing some surprise
visits and all detail situation.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
That was pretty fun. That happened right in front of me.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
One guy that's jumping around surprising some folks is none
other than I believe current free agent quarterback obviously played
a long time with the Bucks and is obviously played
with the Saints here in New Orleans. Jameis Winston is
mean to be that one guy who's jumping around from
podium to podium, jumping on some questions. But the best
part about what Jamis is adding right now to the
entire night. Yeah, I've seen him, now I believe it.

(01:10):
I have two spots. Let's just say I was trying
to get some questions into Zach Vonn about potential coming
to the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
You didn't bite on any of that.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
But as I'm asking him about Sean Payton, and right
around when I'm asking about kind of what he brings
to the squad, who's jumping over my left shoulder and
asking a question a big smile from Zac Lahn's face
is none other than Jamis Winston. And the thing that
Jamis is doing, obviously he's praising the heck out of
Zach Laond, knowing knowing those two that I've played together
in New Orleans. Then Jamis, I don't know if there's
some kind of cookie or something. I think it was

(01:39):
some sort of cookie. He chucked a w cookie at
Zach Vonn and asked him, do you want to eat
some dubs with me, just like he's been world famous
for doing. And of course Zach Vonnd hated it up
and loved it. I don't know if he literally ended up.
I was too busy looking at Jamis when he did it.
But Jamis has kind of been that delegate here, kind
of messing around with all the different players on the podiums.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
But that's that's just part of the fun so far here.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Man, I will say I waited an hour to get
us to get a question into none other than Eagles
star running back Saquon Barkley, and unfortunately didn't really get
the answer I was.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Looking for us.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
I was trying to ask him what essentially do teams
get when they add an elite runner of your caliber,
and he basically said, you know, kind of as expected. Well,
you know, I think definitely team should add elite players
and whatnot. So didn't give me what I was looking
for there. But those are just a few highlights. It's
been a whirlwin so far.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Since you are down there.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
Are there other celebrities that you have run into, because
usually at Super Bowl week, Man, you run into some
of everyone down there. Have you run into someone that
you were like so excited to see just yet.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
You know what, surprisingly not just yet, but I think
I'm gonna I'm gonna venture to guess A good chunk
of that was my hour spent in one position trying
not to get a leg cramp by squeezing in between
the ridiculous scrum of people around Saquon. So a lot
of my time was eating up there. I'm now learning
because I got three and a half minutes left of
the Eagles availability before they depart and the Chiefs go

(03:06):
to the podium. I will say, like you mentioned, I
did see Chado Hussinko. I like I said, I think
Jamis is stalking me because now I'm seeing him all
over the place. I mean, it's like they're only notable
guy that I am now seeing. There are some recognizable
faces in terms of some of the I'm not gonna
say be tier celebrities because that's kind of rude, but
but generally those are the kinds of the folks I'm
seeing so far. But like I said, I think a

(03:28):
lot of it has been the fact that I have
just been in the same place at the same time.
I mean our NFL network inside Ian Rappaport, I did
have a one on one with him. Obviously he's you know,
world famous, especially Ben knows that. So other than that,
not not so much.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Not yet.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, just a matter of fact, I was just hanging
out with you and down there in mobiles. So tell him,
I said, Hey, but you said, mostly be to your celebrities,
not Grant Smith's style. Level of celebrity that you're seeing
at this point, what do you what is what is
the overall vibe down there? I mean, obviously this is
a you know, a Kansas city in Philadelphia. These your
teams have been in the super Bowl recently, there's there's

(04:03):
sort of feels like on social media there's a kind
of burnout a little bit with these two teams. Would
you say that that's the case there or is this
just ramping up like a like a super Bowl week.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
I would say it's ramping up like a rule week.
I will say in terms of the word vibe. So
this is my second time in New Orleans. I was
just here in November, and just the the uptick, the
difference in just the feel. I mean the second I
got off the plane, immediately just bombarded with all kinds
of decal, all kinds of you know, cutouts and pictures

(04:34):
on the wall leading you up and through the city.
I mean, they they to no surprise. I mean, I
don't know if you guys. I'm sure you guys are aware.
Obviously New Orleans is now tied for the the hosting
of the most Super Bowls with eleven, and so this
city knows how to do.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
They know how to do Super Week here.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
So absolutely in terms of the vibe, and then and
then in terms of the players so far, I mean
they're all kind of saying, you know, the Sames, that's
it's business as usual.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
It's a business trip. So far in this first.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Hour here the eagles of medi availability. I've heard, we've
heard stuff along those teams. But it's hard, man. I
gotta say, I don't you know, these these guys go
to practice and they go back to their hotel rooms.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
But man, it is it is tempting, even for me
as a business trip.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
And you know, a lot a lot of good work
to do, which obviously mentioned watch on all our social channels.
But uh, it's hard to not venture out when you
got some work to do. Because New Orleans, the vibe,
it just it wants to draw you in. It wants
to draw you in and I'm tempted.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
Well, you know what, I think there's a lot of
Broncos fans and the other fans NFL fans are around.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
The league that wants to know this question.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
So, uh, I can I can I make a suggest
that I don't.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Know if you will do it.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
But when the Kansas City Chiefs actually get to the podium,
is is it fair to ask Patrick Mahomes, how does
he feel, you know, knowing as though he gets all
the calls from the referees, Yes, oh.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Man, I tell you what, I'm gonna venture to guess
that they have gotten pretty tired of that narrative. But
at the same time, you know, I think if he
were to be asked that, you know, I think, you
know what, you would probably mention that game against the
Bills when in the difference of what those two guys
have done in a loss where Josh Allen has obviously

(06:10):
been cordial, mean quick, but Patrick Mahomes, you know the
last time that that that one notable loss to the
Bills obviously mentioned they the off side, the offensive off side,
that I was a blooney call.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
So I think.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Instead of kind of just getting frustrated, I think he
would try to maybe maybe pinpoint some of the moments
where the refs.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Haven't necessarily been on their side. But at the end
of the.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Day, when it comes down to that narrative, if he
were asked about it, I think I don't really think
that he would he would address him much that they're
probably tired of it. Behind closed doors, they want to
get this win and quiet it regardless of what the
narrative is is on the outside.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
I don't think above this team, I don't think that
they would show frustration win asked, But obviously they're going
to be asked about and maybe I'll try to sneaking
in if I can be, you know, one of the
one to two hundred people in the scrum crowded around
and waiting an hour. I tell you I've never covered
I've never covered Super Week before, but the scrums around
the notable players is unreal. I mean, first of all,

(07:03):
first of all, I gotta say, we got to get
some risers a bit, you know, ten twenty feet back
for the cameras because there's zero room to even get
in that as a report. Ask the question first and foremost,
I just got to say it not that I'm venting
on on kaaway whatsoever at all. But man, we got it,
we got we gotta we gotta work on that process.
But if I can get in there and spend an
hour waiting for Pat Mahomes and I will get that
question in Nick you've got my question for me.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
I will get it ready to rock and roll.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
And if I get kicked out because Pat Mahomes gets
frustrated with me, then I'll blame you.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
See.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Now here's the thing, and we're talking with Anthony Rodriguez
live down there at Earl's Super Week. Listen, is I
realize now why Dave Tepper did not send me down
there to do this, because when the chiefs took the podium,
I would have dressed head to toe at a full
referees outfit and then get when I got to ask
my question, I'm like, hey, you get the Christmas card
and then my question for you is this check it bounced?

Speaker 4 (07:50):
Who do I need to see about that?

Speaker 1 (07:52):
And and just just see how that plays out in
that crowd. So I know now why our boss do
not send me.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
That is a that is a brilliant idea for one
reason alone, because at least his eyes would draw to you.
So that way, when you yell Patrick a hundred times,
like I just had to do the saquon and get
his attention to ask a question. That's not the craziest
idea in the world, because there has to be a way.
I might literally go to a thrift story here in
the whistles before tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Take a whistle.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
I might buy a circus hat whatever, give me your attention,
so that way the default to look at me, so
I don't have to yell their name a thousand times.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
You guys want to look at me so I can
finally get a question.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Now you guys wonder why I wear the gold jackets
and stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
Now you know, Now you know my secret sense.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Now well, this secret is makes so much sense, hey.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
Ron, with so many people being there and kind of
hoarding around some of the top players, I mean, obviously
the crowds are there, is hard to kind of get
up front. Have you had to kind of really use
your elbows to post people out? And when you've done that,
were people a little cordious say oh my bad? Or
were they just saying, hey, get out of my way.
I'm trying to get this sound bite.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Let me tell you about two individuals that were right
in front of me as I was trying to get
a question in the saque. Mind you, two individuals that
easily I could have been in their place with my
tripod there and more likely of me getting into question.
One individual just kept taking the exact same video of
a panorama around the stadium like literally probably at least
ten times, and was getting nothing else. It was just

(09:14):
standing there and just taking in the moment, which, hey,
this is the once in a lifetime experience, but once
you get it needed a little move aside, so what
the other folks like us can can try and get
some Morgan. And then I kid you not, there was
another guy who I don't know if he was talking
to his son or daughter, and for that kid's experience amazing,
but was just standing in.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
The way of all of us.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
That way they could turn the phone around and say, hey,
look now you're video chatting Saquon, and then they had
he had Saquon asked him like say hello to him
on camera, and then he still stayed staying there. So
in terms of people being cordial and having any kind
of consideration, if those two stories kind of sum up
so far in my experience, I mean, generally, everyone's been
pretty coold and considerate. Not too much of elbows needed.

(09:53):
You know, everyone's been understanding. If you actullently pump into
a tripod or bump into another person's shoulder, that's fine.
But man, a little bit consideration in terms of letting us,
letting us do our job.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
It don't let me come out.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
Yeah, it's it's not how the uh I don't things go?

Speaker 1 (10:07):
You get you elbow your way down there, you'd be
ob noxious as possible.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Ask someone asks what's your favorite color or your favorite
kind of cookie or something along those lines. One more time,
when I'm trying to get in a football question, I don't.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Know what I'm to do.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
I get it, and I love that experience, and I
and I understand it is what's that's what the super
week is all about. But get the question in and
please move aside so we can ask some football stuff.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Good heavens well, that's that's the thing. That's you know.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
And part of the reason I don't do a lot
of that stuff much anymore is because you get all
these people down there who just want to hear themselves talk.
They just want to hear themselves ask a question, it's
it's you know, and it's something silly that that doesn't
have anything to do with anything. And so personally, I mean,
as much as I hate gatekeeping, I feel like there
might be there might be some way to sort of
limit to the relevant people that should be in there
asking questions or have a line and people just cycle

(10:51):
through real quick, you know, something like that.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
I don't know anyway.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Have you gotten any of the cuisine down there yet?

Speaker 3 (10:58):
I have not gotten anyth quick.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
And I'm gonna I'm gonna preface this by saying, I
know you're both gonna give me a lot of dirt
for saying this, but I have come to New Orleans
on a diet.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
I am not even going to be able to be
able to enjoy. I know, I know, but here here,
I haven't made it right now I have I have.
I have a follow up. I have a follow up response.
I have a follow up response.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
If I hadn't just been here in New Orleans and
had my Turkey in the Wolf and had my Brennan's
and had my Molli's Rise and Shine and every other
amazing place that I was recommended, trust me, I would
be doing it here for Super Week, but knowing that
it's going to be impossible to get a reservation. The
lines are going to be quadruple what it was for
me back in November on a personal trip, I would
do it Otherwise I know I'm gonna get flack.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
I understand the food here is amazing and everyone here
that hasn't had it before should definitely do so. But gentlemen,
I have my meal prep breakfast burritos back at the hotel.
I've got my protein chicks, my protein bars, and it's
going to be a challenge.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Well yeah, I was just gonna say, we got to
figure something out here, because that's that's you know. I
can't get go townther. I'm giving the food report for Mobile.
I'm sitting here talking about eating a bacon cheeseburger in
between two doughnuts, and and here you are balancing the
scales by being on a diet.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
I don't know what to do with.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
You man balancing the scales. I like that. I like that.
I want to balance the more in my favorite That's
the reason why I'm still on the diet.

Speaker 5 (12:15):
Well done or hey Rod, with so much confusion down
there and chaos being it being the Super Bowl, I mean,
what does your schedule look like for the rest of
the week.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Well, obviously, opening night I think is gonna be the
most mad house.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Everyone time understands that, and the research that I did
going into this, everyone understands that this is just an
absolute madhouse. And so the rest of the week it's
gonna it's gonna it's gonna wind down a bit. So
obviously here in the Caesar Super Donors where the opening
night's being hell. By the way, we're just moments away
from the Chiefs taking the field, and the time that
we've talked, the Eagles have now departed, and so for
the next hour plus, obviously, Pat Mahomes, Travis tails Andy

(12:49):
Reading Company, get me stepping up here on the podium
so we can see if we can get anything on
that front. But in terms of the rest of the week,
there's there's general team availability for both of these teams
at their respect hotels the rest of the week, and
so I'm obviously try to get to a lot of those.
I'm definitely going to go to the Eagles press conference.
I believe it's for the position coaches. I think it's
Wednesday and Thursday. I definitely want to get some questions

(13:12):
into Vic Fangio, obviously defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles,
you know, a couple of year head coach at Denver
BRONC was a few years ago. But there's there's general
team availability that I'm going to attend for those two
squads for the rest of the week. I will say again,
not only am I going on a diet but also
dry January. So to not have even just one small
little beverage tomorrow at the media party that a lot

(13:33):
of my media brethren and sisters are going to be attending,
that's going to be a challenge, but that's coming up tomorrow.
And then generally there's just a lot of different kind
of like small press conferences. Obviously the halftime show press
conference with tender Lamar and Sizza's coming up later this week.
And so, by the way, right now on the podium
here they come all the all the all the players.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
You can hear the cheers, you can hear the Nicks booze.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
A lot of Saints fans here, by the way, they
asked on the podium as this thing was kicking off
around five five thirty, they said, are any Saints fans
in the house, And Guys, I'm pretty sure that everyone
in the stadium, all the fans that are off the field,
they seem like they are all Saints fans. So shocking
that they're actually kind of cheering. It seems a bit
for Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs to come up on
the podium. But back to the question, they generally there's

(14:13):
just a lot of different stuff going on all week,
so trying to find time to kind of hit everything,
but a lot of radio row, a lot of seeing
the who's who's walking around to try to chat with them,
get their take on the Denver Broncos and bow Nix
and Sean Payton what it takes for them to get
to this stage here. So I definitely want to tackle
that in a whole lot more with all the different
availability we have the rest of the week.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Well, I'm looking forward to catching you all week long
down there live.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
From New Orleans for Koe Super Week. We appreciate your.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
Time see him, Thank you, gentlemen. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Here in the next little bit here on our KAE
social channels at Kaye Colorado, you'll see I got some
questions into Zach Bond, linebacker who a lot of Broncos
fans want here with the Denver Broncos. I did a
one on one, as I mentioned with our NFL Network
insider Ian Rappaport, I did get that question into Saquon.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
So you're going to hear all that and.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
A whole lot more, a lot of images, a lot
of great photos here from opening night the rest of
the week. So I will the rest of the tonight.
So I will see you guy as I talked to you,
guess tomaw yep.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Looking forward to it. The KAWA Super Week in New
Orleans with.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
Anthony Rodriguez, presented by Chevron Colorado, all all the coverage
on all the Kiawa social media channels.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
We come back.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
We're gonna talk a little bit about why these Saints
are the least attractive opening in the NFL. Uh. I
want to get into who their head coach is gonna be.
We know the answer to that, even though it hasn't
been announced yet. Uh talk Limbo and I saw another
at the Sea Bowl. Well we'll take you questions as
well at five six six nine zero Rocos Country and
I'll be bad after this.

Speaker 6 (15:29):
I know y'all ready because'all were born ready. Y'all came
out the womb ready, you came out linked financial feel ready, Yeah, hell,
hold on, hold on, but be steady because we're were
built for this. Won't got to stress, won't gotta press.
All we gotta do is get them put them boards
to risks.

Speaker 7 (15:49):
We come out without best. You know, ain't gonna pass
the tens.

Speaker 6 (15:55):
And then I've dropped the mic right man to say,
fight you fly.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Thanks to Anthrow Rodriguez for joining us in the last segment.
If you missed any segment, you can go to Broncos
Country Night, dot Com, Slash Podcast or roof get your podcast,
Apple iTunes, Spotify, the totally Free, Awesome and redesigned iHeartRadio
app where you can get to take It for Granted
podcast as well a new episode coming anytime soon.

Speaker 7 (16:15):
There.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Uh, I was gonna call you g money, but then
I just felt wrong. It's actually what my brother calls me.
Someone to stopped doing that.

Speaker 8 (16:23):
There was an episode last week when you were Gone
with Ken Solomon, former super mascot of the Denver Nuggets,
Rocky Yes, and man, he has some great stories to tell.
It's time, you know, battling Charles Barkley on the court.
He's got a great story about Charles Barkley punching him,
a story about him passing out when he was getting
dropped from the rafters one time, and a lot of
stuff from his personal life that I didn't know about,

(16:44):
some darker times that he had to battle through.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
So definitely worth to listen. Well, there you go.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
Take it for granted. Podcast is available now, so I
have to get that one.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
I do not. I have not listened to that episode.
I was distracted done a mobile.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Yeah, I said booger instead of but I don't really
never going to live that down Yeah, you know, this
is I think like the fifteenth, sixteenth year I have
been down there something like that.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
It's it's been a lot, you know, And the more
it changes, the more it stays the same. As like
I tell the other guys earlier, this year was the
first year I felt old.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
This was the first year I felt old down there.
Why did you feel old?

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Well, I'm forty four years old and and it's the
first time I was down there where people covering the event.
There were people that were covering the event and then
hanging out with me later that I was old enough
to be their father.

Speaker 4 (17:40):
Very interesting. Yeah, interesting. So I was like, wow, this
is uh, I am so old.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
Well see, okay, let me help you put a spin
on that, because I don't like the idea when someone
looks at the life of based on whatever situation and
go that they're old. There's no such thing in my book. See,
for me, it wasn't the fact that you were old.
You saw a lot of the the what is it

(18:09):
what they call them now, gen X, gen Z whatever
they call.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
Them, those or whatever they call it. Are we still
allowed to call them millennials? What's wrong with millennials? I'm
just saying because I don't really I'm a millennial, the
new generation as gen Z.

Speaker 5 (18:23):
Okay, so that that exactly, so you're down there with
a bunch of gen zs. But it was the fact
that they are younger breaking into the business. But you,
Benjamin Albright, you are experienced. You are a seasoned vet, right,
So never look at yourself as being old. You are
a seasoned experience that that that.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Knows the lay of the land, where to go, where
to get the nice gossip, what.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Do you get?

Speaker 4 (18:48):
All this stuff is true. But but the body here.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
This is not on the same level that it used
to be, and is that much tougher. I will say,
you know, I like I'm personally as a person, I'm
forty four going on twenty five. But but but the
body is uh is forty four going on sixty five.

Speaker 5 (19:10):
Oh, then you know that there are things that can
help you out with that.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Do you notice today, I've been eating healthy and drinking
water since I came back from that. A little bit
ridiculous nonsense, he's been eating healthy and drinking water since
he's been that.

Speaker 8 (19:23):
I bet we got twelve tacos and a large coke tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (19:27):
I mean, look at all balances out.

Speaker 7 (19:28):
Of the Yeah, not.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
What I started.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
The note car died again in the minute I got back,
just because I it was such like by the end
of the week, I was so like like just I
don't know, bloated or whatever.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
It is, like, its just and sluggish.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Yeah, your body is going through fried Southern everything.

Speaker 7 (19:46):
I'm glad the.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
Nation did not see you to New Orleans because I
would hate for you to go from Mobile to New Orleans.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
I would have I would have gone out doing what
I loved.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
I'm just saying I don't know if it would have
been the food or the pooshe but one of them
would have got it.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
Gives me, doctor, Can you tell us how you went? Well,
keep in mind I got I still have to go
to the combine here at the end of the month.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
Yeah, but you still have a windows it kind of
get yes.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
Like eat a shred of lettuce that is an attached
to a bacon cheeseburger mash between your donuts.

Speaker 7 (20:12):
So how did he go, sir?

Speaker 4 (20:13):
He went with a big mac in his hand.

Speaker 7 (20:14):
Well, that's the thing. I posted that.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
I posted a picture of this thing, and I was like,
look if if if I don't make it, I went
out and doing.

Speaker 4 (20:20):
What I love.

Speaker 7 (20:21):
Listen, that's the only way to live.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Like that, I'm here for it.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
But I mean, I'm just saying like I definitely felt it.
Like it's you know, you get up and you're going
to watch practice at nine am, and there's two practices
a little break in between.

Speaker 4 (20:33):
You get lunch, but that's gonna last you until about
three in the afternoon. Uh, and then you know you got.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Maybe two hours to do any works that you need
to get done, and then you gotta go eat dinner.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
And then you're gonna be you know, depending.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
On what part of the dinner crowd you catch, you're
gonna be doing that for an hour or two. And
then after that it's everybody's you know, hit the bar
scene and going and going and drinking and swapping stories
and you know, gett all the guys. So you know,
you're doing that till whatever time in the morning. You know,
you get done doing that.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
The next day and rinse and repeat it all over again,
which right.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
Which for me, you know, I'm usually shutting those places down.
I mean we're at it's still three four am, and
then I'm turning back around getting up and you know
at nine am for practice and all that kind of stuff.
And yeah, by the time you get to like the
fourth day of doing that, interesting, I'm a guy, what choice,
you know, It's yeah, if you feel like Ron Burgundy

(21:21):
at that point, you know, it's like that's what the
bottom feels like, a box of emotions, yes, all of it,
and it's just it's not it's not a great fire.
So anyway, I'm glad to be back in that regard,
and I certainly have gotten I certainly have got older
over the last in that regard, I'm.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
Still the same youthful, cool hip as the kids, says
the person that you're like twenty five.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
I think, I think maybe all the day that we
all know I'm wildly irresponsible. Yeah, I'm a year old
man responsible maybe nineteen.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
At times I have to drink.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Though, So there's twenty one, twenty one.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
That's the bottom line, that's the floor, you know.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
If the face hasn't started to crack yet, you know,
I mean, I'm still I'm still good, and you know,
the lines and all that kind of so the weather,
you know, although there's a little more salt pepper and
the beard the hair than they.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
Used to be. That bald spot in the background crushed me.
I'm look, you know, I mean, I really have looked
at resouting the turf. You know, expensive that is.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
You gotta get you gotta get an endorsem hey, yay,
the painters resouted the field again.

Speaker 7 (22:27):
About to say it's about to.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Say it's like twenty grand. Seriously, it's like twenty grand
to get it done.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
And I'm like, God, all right, just take it.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
Some some things are well worth the money, I would
have to say.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
And nobody wants me without hair, just saying, I mean,
I don't know if you guys have watched you you
guys seen Lord of the Rings obviously, yes, so I
basically look like fat Gollum with no hair.

Speaker 4 (22:54):
Wow, you know you.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
Get like the tubby belly, but he's all screwing and
like you know, like, yeah, we no hair like that's
I'm basically a repid.

Speaker 7 (23:02):
Like you guys have to say.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
I've got a photo somewhere of me from basic training
where they shave my head and I looked like Gollum
back then.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
I was seventeen years old and basic training. Wow, I
had to get a waiver because I wasn't eighteen.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
Well, I see I see Dre's hands working, soide, I
don't know, I don't.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
You can't find that picture. I know where the picture is.
You won't be able to You will not be able
to find it.

Speaker 7 (23:22):
It hasn't moving ulcer fast.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
This is googling. Yeah, you know it was. It was
really bad. That's it's not my look, Paul is not.
I'm a hair guy. I need the hair. It is
not a great look for me.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Any right down there in New Orleans and I was really.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Close there to Mobile and and you know New Orleans
in the process that the last team Buster, we haven't
hired a coach yet.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
Now it's gonna be Kellen Moore. I know that.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
You know that technically just by the fault, right, Well,
it's it's always been, it's been, it was going to
be Kellen Moore. Mike McCarthy and McCarthy kind of gave
him a ultimatum like, look, look, if I'm the dude
to hire me now, you don't need to wait on him. Uh,
And they're like, we're gonna wait on him for the process.
So he's like, all right, I'm pulling out, have a
good you know, throwing up aducs throw a.

Speaker 5 (24:00):
Mccafey was just like like whatever the conversation was, he decided, well,
I will wait until twenty twenty six because they're gonna
be a multitude of jobs opened again. But it was
kind of crazy knowing as though, this is the last
job that's available, and I know you're saying Kellen Moore's

(24:20):
probably gonna get the job, but it seemed like one
of those jobs that guys who were kind of in
that realm of being viewed as head coaches didn't seem
like they were really interested in New Orleans.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
They weren't. It's a team that's in a terrible cap situation.
They have no flexibility with the contracts that they have.
As if you're walking into that job, you know right
away that you're gonna have to post you one cut
Derek Carr, so you don't have a quarterback unless you
think Spencer Ratler is gonna be something because you're not
gonna be able to keep car like by default, you
get to post you and want them just to create

(24:54):
some breathing room, and even then you're gonna have to
do more. So you're completely hosed on the cap situation
because all those years of running up the credit card
when Drew Brees was there finally came due and and
they they've got no way around that. So it's it's
I mean, you're looking at a rebuild with a team
that's got no money to rebuild, so you have to
do it through the draft. You have to hit on

(25:15):
your draft picks. So it's, uh, you know, if if
I'm killing more, you know I'm asking for a six
year deal. There's no way I'm not taking this job
as you give me a six year deal because the
first two years this is going to be thrown away anyway.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
Well, I'm not.

Speaker 5 (25:25):
If I'm killing more, I'm not only asking for a
six year deal. I'm asking for a lot of decision
making as far as roster building.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
Mickey Loomis, Well, I mean that's why airing.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
You know, Glenn didn't go down there because he was like, look,
if I'm going to be the head coach, then I
need to be able to make decisions on personnel. And
that means that Mickey Loomis may not be the guy.
And they were like, yeah, no, we're not going to
do that. So if I'm killing more, you get the
six year dale, they're not going to give you the
opportunity to have a lot of influence in picking the players.

(25:57):
Then I want more guaranteed money over that six year
pick because I know at some point when the fans
are putting paper bags over their heads and not showing up,
someone's getting fired.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
But I want to make sure I leave with my
money in my pocket.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Yeah yeah, I mean the Saints like there are moves
that they have to make coming up here just because
there's so they're fifty four million dollars under water on
the cap and they have no flexibility you've gotta have
to post June one Derek Carr, that'll get you thirty
million savings. And then you're going to have to cut
two of the three of Cam Jordan Tasom Hill and
Eric McCoy. You're gonna have to cut two of the
three just to get back to zero dollars available, just

(26:33):
to get under the cap. So because they're each eleven
or ten million dollars in savings, that gets you to
write up against it in terms of you know, in
terms of that, and then you know, you look at
the other You don't get any savings out of kool
Aid or Brian Breese or you know, Floga because those
guys are new saying these.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
Are like a million dollars in series.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
There's there's nothing, there's no contract maneuvering to be done.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
So no Black Friday discoals here.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Yeah, there's I mean, there's just like you just don't
have any options. The only guys in the Anny savings
are cutting. Guys like Tyren Matthew can get you six
point two million in savings. Okay, cool, Now you need
forty eight million dollars more off there just to get
cap compliant.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
That's not adding people. That's just getting cap compliant.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
So and like you know, you can't cush tracks, you
can't cut Alvin tomorrow because there's no dollars saying man,
but those are post June one designations.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
You can't even do pre June one.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
So the Saints are not going to be active in
free agency at all.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
This should be a lesson like for teams down the road, right,
Like like if when the owners get together and they
get in the room.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
And say, look, okay, here's exhibit A.

Speaker 5 (27:42):
Here's what not to do to your salary cap, to
destroy it by kicking the can down the street, which
most teams opt to do when it comes to the
salary cap, right, And the Saints have kicked the can
down the street.

Speaker 4 (27:58):
So far that man written the bill. Fight the bill
always comes to. It comes due it always.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
You can kick it down their own ways, but it
always comes to and it is due for the Saint.
So that job is not attractive to begin with. And
that's why a lot of people I think passed on
the opportunity to coach.

Speaker 4 (28:14):
There. You mentioned Aaron Glenn, he wanted more control.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Uh, Mike McCarthy is like, either I'm your guy or
I'm it's similar to what happened with the Broncos and
both Harball I'm excuse you, not the Broncos, the Broncos
with Brian Ryan's but the vikings with him Harball, where
Harball was like, Hey, you're not interviewing anybody else.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
I'm the guy or I'm not the guy.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Uh, and then he went back to Michigan in the
next year interview with the Broncos, went back to Michigan
and they finly the Chargers.

Speaker 4 (28:36):
Uh Demiko rants.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
Kind of you know when the when the Broncos were
circling that, and then they went back and interviewed Harball
and Ryan's got wind of it. It's like, whoa bro,
you just told me I'm the guy. If I'm not
the guy, then you know, the.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Same thing kind of happening with you, Dan quint.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Who uh not exactly, Dan, are you talking about Chicago job?

Speaker 4 (28:55):
Well, no, no, no, with.

Speaker 5 (28:55):
The Broncos job because he interview like and like and
of cycles with.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
The Broncos and Search he interviewed, but it wasn't like
that with them, like he was willing to go through
the process both times. He was a little disappointed after
the first time when they picked they'd hack it. And
then the second time, very clearly, it became a situation
where they were not going his direction.

Speaker 4 (29:15):
So he decided to go back to Dallas to be
their DC. Then they came back to him and he's.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
Like, now I already gave Dallas my word, I'm going
back the You know, these these type situations crop up.
But for Mike McCarthy, he was just like, either I'm
the guy or I'm not. And they're like, well, we're
going through the process. He's like, cool, so I'm not
the guy. Not a problem.

Speaker 5 (29:34):
I mean, just the idea looking at these numbers, these
raw numbers, and to see that New Orleans is like
minus fifty million plus fifty four.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
And then and it's the thing, like, they can't even
be pre June one cuts. They've got to post June one,
which means you have to carry the cap number. Tell
June first. They can't spend in order to create the
in order to create it. They can, they can do that,
They just they can't spend anything.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
Then it's show right now.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
Yeah, I'm not even sure they can afford their rookie
draft class without cutting certain people.

Speaker 5 (30:05):
Well okay, well we know, every team kind of runs
into selling cat issues and they always find a way
to kind of figure it out.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
And the reason I just came to this like, oh,
this is the wildest I've ever seen.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Like, like, normally you have flexibility in your contracts where
you can kick it down the road a little further
and then cut somebody later.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
They don't have that. There's four guys you have to
move here, right, and you've got to move. You either
have to one of them.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
You can, uh, you can sort of trade Taysom Hill,
I guess, but that doesn't give you much space. Really,
you have to cut these four guys post with a
post tune one designation. You have to cut Derek Carr
for sure is the math doesn't work without that. Then
you's Cameron Jordan, Taysom Hill, and Eric McCoy, and then
you probably have to cut Tyrad Matthew or Chase Young one.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
Of the two cut, cut, cut and cut.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
I'm just saying all of them like, I'm not I'm
not cutting Chase, I'm not cut Chase Young.

Speaker 4 (30:59):
I mean I need I need something. I need bodies.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Taysom Hill, Yeah, you're probably cutting that him and Derek Carr.
That saves you forty million right there. But then you
got you know, then you're gonna have to cut Cameron
Jordan or Eric McCoy in order just to get to uh,
just to get to fifty. And then Tyrad Matthew that
gets you to fifty six. And now you're two million dollars.
You have two million dollars in savings under the cap,
but your draft class is gonna cost you about eight million.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
Okay, okay.

Speaker 5 (31:24):
With that being said, the first thing that comes to
my mind a couple of years ago, Brett veach out
in Kansas City. I don't know how he was able
to maneuver it because it seemed as though they only
had like and and once again, I'm just over exactly.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
The flexibility to be able to accelerate bonuses. They don't
have that here because they avoidable years.

Speaker 5 (31:43):
But it seemed like that one year he had like
seventy five dollars.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
And twelve dollars, like it was two hundred twelve dollars.

Speaker 5 (31:50):
I mean, you get Chris Jones, yeah, and you get
Patrick Mahomes on a ten year deal.

Speaker 1 (31:54):
They used giant signing bonuses up front and they didn't
use voidable years on the back end. The Saints have
been using this little years crap for years and it
is finally caught up to them because there's no flexibility
with those things to be able.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
To do stuff.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
It kicked the money down on the back end instead
of accelerating on the front, and they got nothing they
could do.

Speaker 5 (32:10):
I hate to say what I'm gonna say right now,
what I'm gonna say it because we're talking to business
with football, hate Kansas City all you want to that
they did smart. They found ways to win in ways
that most people didn't think they would be able to.
But they have found ways to manipulate the cap to
make it work to sign top players but still keep

(32:33):
themselves open to sign younger players in free agentcy And
I don't know if I mean, I'm sure they give
out a GM of the Year award to something. If
they don't, I'm sure Brett Beach would have one hands
down over the past six years.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
Because they found it's math. It's like as once you
do it's math.

Speaker 5 (32:54):
And all the analytics that we get during the regular season.

Speaker 4 (32:57):
To me, these are the analyts that matter the most.

Speaker 5 (33:01):
Being able to understand and manipulate the cap to be
able to keep your top players at younger players and
still stay in that competitive window.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
Yeah. And that's the other thing.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
They get that contract that they gave Patrick Mahomes a
ten year deal that everybody's like.

Speaker 7 (33:14):
Oh my god, this is a terrible idea.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Well, he's like under you know, he's under the market
value in terms of being paid now the quarterback, like
they three or four years into it.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
Yeah, so it was a brilliant deal. And anybody like
that's the.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
Thing with the sooner you pay the quarterback, the better
your deal versus the market is period, unless you have
a rookie quarterback that's playing with a lot of rookie contracts,
you know whatever. But I'm saying when you have to
when you when you get past the rookie contract, the
sooner you pay them the better, because the next one's
just going to keep resetting the market.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Everything going to look at what happened to Dallas.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
They absolutely hosed themselves on the Dak Prescott thing.

Speaker 4 (33:46):
And now I think.

Speaker 5 (33:47):
What Michael Parsons, his deal is going to be.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
Up, and it went on if they can pay him
because they paid CD and Dak Prescott.

Speaker 4 (33:55):
So we'll see Roccos Country to night rolls on after
