Speaker 1 (00:00):
Back, everybody, just one more hour of Broncos Country to
Night Left. Filling in for Benjamin all right, it is
Zach Segers and joining me is the incredible co host
Nick Ferguson. Nick, we've talked a lot about a lot
tonight with the Broncos and free agency, what to expect
for maybe a new look AFC West with Geno Smith.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
But that's not That's not the only thing to.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Monitor in the AFC West is Travis Kelsey is returning,
as we found out a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yea, is he really returning, right?

Speaker 4 (00:33):
I mean, let's be really honest about it, be transparent.
I mean, his body may return, but the talent that
we saw a couple of years ago, I think it.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Is long gone.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
The name play will still say Kelsey, but it's not
the same.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
It's it's like, you know what it's like taking let
me see like a you go right and slapping Mercedes
being on the side and you just kind of have
everything with Mercedes band land. But we know that it's
not a Mercedes bands. It's a ugo dressed up as one.
That's simply what you're gonna get with the return of

(01:09):
Travis Kelcey a guy that's playing dress.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Up and I think we saw that in the Super Bowl,
especially with a really ugly performance from him. But he
was talking with his brother Jason Kelsey on his podcast
through their podcast, I Should Say New Heights, and he
explained why he decided to come back for year thirteen.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Why are you playing? Other sheet?

Speaker 5 (01:29):
The biggest thing is that I love playing the game
before That's a good reason I love playing. I still
feel like I could play it at a high level.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
And possibly at a higher level than I did last year.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
I don't think it was my best outing.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
I let my guys down in a lot more moments
than I helped them, especially if you look at my
track record and how I've been in years past.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
I want to give it a good run.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
I got a bad taste in my mouth on how
I ended the year and how well I was playing,
and you know how accountable I was for the people
around me. And I love so many people in Kansas City,
both in that facility in the community. It's home for
me now. I don't want to leave that life yet.
I put in a lot of hard work and I
put in a lot of you know, focus into being
the best that I can for case.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Last year, it just it didn't end well for us.

Speaker 5 (02:07):
I feel like there's a responsibility in me to play
out the contract that I initially signed to give Kansas
City and the Chiefs Organization everything that I got, and
that's what I'm gonna do.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Man, I hear what you're saying. I think you know
it's hard losing a stra Bowl.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
You feel like there's so many things you could have
done better or whatnot.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Don't lose sight of the bigger reason that you guys
are there is because of who you are. You know
what I mean.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
I know you're gonna be dedicated like you always are.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
Kansas City, Baby, we're back at it for at least
one more year. I can't say whether or not this
is going to be the last year because I still
love a lot of what I do for the City
of Kansas City and the Chiefs Organization. So I know
I got one on my contract. I'm gonna give you
guys everything I got. Big Wall, hold up for a second.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
He said some contradictory things in that. Yeah, okay, we
gotta kind of re paraphrasing year. We've gotta run it
back for one more year. Right, But I'm not saying
that it's only going to be one more year, even
though I have won one.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Year on my contract.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
That's exactly what one year actually means, right, He's only
coming back for this year, and the only reason he's
coming back Zach and the.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Older brother Kelsey Man.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
I got to give him credit for being a big
brother because he was trying to support his younger brother.
But he know in his hearts of hearts that his
brother is still not the same player. There are only
reason he's coming back, and it's not like he's coming
back from in my opinion, for the love of the game. Right,
listening to what he said, he's making a return because

(03:27):
he let his teammates down. He left a bad taste
in his mouth because, to be totally honest, I mean
six targets thirty nine yards, thirteen yards.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
On the entire game.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
His first reception then come into like what the third quarter,
and he wasn't blacking well. So no, he did not
perform well. But this is the difficult part of being
on this side of it. When you get too close
to the action to football, you can't see where your
skills have diminished. And I would have loved to see
his old the brother tell him they keep it one hundred.

(04:03):
But hey, you gotta let your brother brother live out
his dreams. I mean, you tell me what you say.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I mean, I ultimately agree.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
I think Travis Kelce if his reasoning for coming back is, man,
I did not have a great season last year.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
I was not up to my standard. I need to
go out on a higher note.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
I wouldn't feel confident if I was Travis Kelce that
twenty twenty five is going to end on a higher note.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
For sorry, you made it all the way to the
super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
And I know in Kansas City that has to feel
like commonplace now, But I mean that's.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Hard to do.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Josh Allen has still never been to one. Lamar Jackson
has still never been to one. Joe Burrow's only been
to one. Like AFC's loaded, you might get eliminated early
in the playoffs. I would be stunned if it were
to happen. But there's always the possibility you don't even
make the playoffs and the team's success aside. I don't
know what Travis Kelsey has left in the tank. Two

(04:57):
years ago, he was a non factor in the right
ular season. They were kind of saving him, keeping him fresh.
He turned it on in the postseason in Super Bowl
and looked great. Last year, it looked like they were
maybe doing.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
The same thing.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Everyone was expecting him to pop come the playoffs once
they kind of took the minutes restriction off him, and
it didn't happen. He was the same Travis Kelcey. He
never popped outside off. I guess that one game against
the Texans in the Divisional round. I think this year
proved it's not just Travis Kesey isn't at the point
in his career anymore where you can just flip it

(05:31):
on and off like a switch. And I think it's
only going to be uglier next year. I think we
could be looking at like a the twenty fifteen Peyton
Manning version of Travis Kelsey where it's just a little ugly.
Maybe Noah Gray is starting ahead of him because no
Grace a solid tight end. I just I would worry
if I was Kelsey that this could end really ugly.

(05:52):
And you know, you never want to go out like
Joe Namath did with the Rams, where you're on the
bench and everything.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
No you don't.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
And Brett Beach said last week at the I'm buying
that he kind of made an excuse for Travis kelce
poor performance, saying.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
That he was ill. So I'm thinking I get.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Him an athlete and I've been injured before, and you
want to go out there and play, but it reaches
the point where your reasons for wanting to play are
now hurting the team. And if you love the team
the way that you say, you need to love someone else.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
To go out there and play.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
And in your case, nor great if Travis kelce was
sick in that game, like Brett Beach you know, said,
or led us to believe, you tap out, no wander
to be upset if you tap out.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
But listening to what he's.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Saying with his brother Jason Kelsey was he felt as.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Though he let his team down.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
That's the reason why he's making a trumphant return. And
over the years, we've seen Travis kelcey numbers go down,
like this past season he only had three three touchdowns
the year before five before that it was twelve.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
So there's something going on.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
And when I watched Travis Kelcey, his speed is not
there the way that it once was. He is not
a vertical threat. That's why I used to bug the
crap out of me when I would hear so many
commentators say, well, you can't guard Travis Kelsey.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
I'm like, yes, you can. Put your damn hands on it.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Choke him out right, make sure that you take him
out of the progression and force well Hols it go
somewhere else.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
It feels like, now, oh he's got is kind of
that old man at the why, kind of like red
pickup game, where like.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
As a little Yogah's just why, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
He's not beating anyone with speed, He's not out leaping
anybody for the ball. It's just kind of I know
the soft spots in the zone. I've done this for,
you know, ten plus years now. I know how to
I know what the defense is trying to take away
on a given play. I know how to manipulate it.
He's beating guys with his mind. And again, I think
we saw in twenty twenty three he had enough left
in the tank that that could still be an effective

(07:55):
formula for the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Last year, I think we saw.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
He does not have enough in the tank for that
to be a workable situation for the Chiefs. It has
me thinking about Ryan Edwards. Honestly, I'm thinking maybe he
should take the Ryan Edwards model here and hey, let's
just kick up on the beach in Cancun, travel around
to Europe with Taylor Swift.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
He should be a man.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
I mean, I think that if I had to choose
one of the two between going out as bad as
I think it'll look in twenty twenty five, we don't
know for sure, but if I'm just projecting, I were
to choose between ending my career on that note or
ending my career in the super Bowl, even if it
was an underwhelming Super Bowl and two straight Super Bowl
victories prior, I'm entering my career on three straight AFC championships.

(08:41):
To ride off into the sunset with a billionaire pop star, I'm.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Taking the ladder. I think the lotter sounds a lot
more appealing.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
Yeah, Dravis Kelsey is not going to take the Zach
Seegers and the Ryan Edward plane to being the kept man.
The reason why he can't do that is because how
poorly he performed. Had the Chiefs won that game, even
though his stat line wouldn't have been that great. He
would have been able to do exactly what you and

(09:10):
Ryan are suggesting, but he can't do that now because
he doesn't want fans to have that last memory of
him missing a block, dropping a pass. That's very hard
to deal with because when Travis Kelcey is gonna be.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
A Hall of Famer, but in the conversation, you know he's.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Gonna come up, what was the last couple of years
like for Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
And the conversation, the person he's in the debate with
in terms of greatest tight end of all time is
Gronk in my opinion, at least I think Gonzalez. There's
some other guys that deserve mentioned there, but in the
modern age at least since been Gronk first Kelsey, and
Kelsey has the longevity, but Gronk never really had those
down years.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Even when he retired with the Box.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
He was playing at a pretty dang eye level for
those Tampa Bay Box teams. You know, I wonder if
this is something that maybe hurts Kelsey in that debate,
if he turns in another ugly season or two and
that gets pointed out against him in those those goat debates.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
See and that has the potential of hurting Travis Kelcey
more than helping him, because we've seen athletes that have
hung on.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
And far too long, right, just just to tab it.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
Too long, like one of my I think my second
year here with the Denver Broncos, we had Jerry Rice
in training camp, right, I mean the great Jerry Rice
that I watched.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
I mean as a kid playing.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Against the Cincinnati Bengals in the Super Bowl. I remember
watching him on a black and white television on my
in my dad's car as we kind of partnered in
the stadium to kind of get that Super Bowl type
of feel.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
But he was my teammate and.

Speaker 4 (10:53):
It wasn't It wasn't it was Jerry, but it wasn't
the same, right, And I remember him run his padding
like skinny post route, and this is when I just
felt bad.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
I was like, oh, I know what's coming.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
I saw his split, I saw the approach he took,
and I beat him to the post and I'm in
front of him like, nah, You're not getting this on me.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
No, no, not today. And to see guys past their.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Prime right playing football, like Michael Jordan with the Wizards
playing basketball just like it.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Just kind of broke me down. It's almost like seeing
a boxer past his prawn, like watching it. What was it?
Was it which one of those brothers, Jake Paul or whatever?

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Yeah, Jake Paul, Mike.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
It was just like my son was just like, what's happening? Dad?

Speaker 4 (11:43):
And I was trying to explain to him, like what
Mike Tyson was like, Mike Tyson, you're seeing now, It's
not the Mike Tyson before. Like I like, if you
went into the bathroom forty five seconds in the first
round the fight was over, and he was like, yeah,
that doesn't look like the same person.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
And it just felt so bad.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
I don't want Travis Kelsey, even though he plays for
Kansas City, like that to be kind of a lasting
memory people.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Seeing him now being you know, quick jamming.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Guys choking him out and he can't get down the field.
I don't want to see him go out like that.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Do you think Travis Kelsey would be more likely to
return in twenty twenty five?

Speaker 2 (12:20):
That will give you two different ypatheticals.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Here one Chiefs win that game, his stat line's the
exact same, or option number two outcome is the exact same.
They lose forty to twenty two. It's a bit of
a blowout, but Kelsey has a great you know, he
has the Xavier Worthy stat line. It's not garbage time,
let's say, but you know, seven catches over one hundred yards,
a couple of touchdowns in Which are those realities? The

(12:43):
one where the Chiefs win but Kelsey has a bad game,
or the one where the Chiefs lose but Kelsey has
a return to form game. Which one do you think
is more likely to return Kelsey in or send him
off into the sunset retired.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
I guess Chiefs win with poor STATISTICO day from a
production standpoint.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Right, And that makes me think, I don't know how
much he's chasing the statistical stuff. I wonder if he's
I don't know, on some level trying to chase the
Super Bowl win, and just so much of that is
out of your control.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
I feel like it's hard for me to imagine this
working out well.

Speaker 4 (13:17):
For this he said himself that it's kind of the
football life and everything that comes along with it. Because
he was a great player in his own right from
twenty sixteen to about twenty twenty two. I mean, he
dominated from a tight end position and then obviously this
is going to be private artment tarting. Okay, well, when

(13:38):
did he get involved with Taylor Swear Because.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
All those things may not, you know, correlate, but.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
You have to ask yourself and have that conversation when
he got involved with her, where was his where was
he Where was he statistically right? And it just seemed
like his play started to plummet. And what he's thinking is,
though he's gonna win that Super Bowl, they're gonna have
a three p this is why you were retired and
maybe become a kept man like you and Ryan Edwards.

(14:08):
But he wanted that because that writes his fairytale. He
rides up in the sunset. So by him running it
back is now kind of like a remix of him
and Taylor Swift. I'm hoping that statistically his numbers kind
of are better than they were last year, not against
the Broncos, but hopefully they're better because if not, that's gonna.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Be the conversation. When did he meet Taylor Swift and
when did his numbers go down?

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Well, they got together before the twenty twenty three season,
which is kind of when at least a regular season
to climb started type. I gotta ask you, Nick now
before we had to break, do you think t Swift
is responsible for Travis Kelsey's to climb.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
I'm gonna say no.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
I'm gonna say no because as a player, you are
responsible for the production you put out there on the field.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Can't allow for any distractions.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
If somehow Travis Kelsey is allowed for these distractions to
somewhat take away from his preparation and production on Phil,
that's bad on him, not bad on her.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Well put Nick, can I talk about some more NFL
news from around the league coming up in this next
segment with the NFL six Pack? This is Broncos Country
Tonight on KOA. Oh everybody, and welcome to some more
Broncos Country tonight. And joining me as always is Nick

(15:35):
Ferguson here to close this out, Nick, are you ready
for a drink?

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Yes? Is it Martinelli's?

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yes, only only Martinelli's for you. But that said, it's
an NFL six pack of Martinelli's.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
It's time for the NFL Sick Pat. I'm going to
drink a lot of beer.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
Insight and insight information you can't find anywhere else.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
I know.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
Six the top six NFL had what.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
The Campa Bay Buccaneers agreed to terms on a new
deal with star linebacker Levante David today. It's a one
year deal that will keep Levonte David than Tampa Bay.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
The plan at least is through the end of his career.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
Where do you think Levonte David ranks among the all
time great Buccaneers? Could he be the franchise's goat? Even
their version of John Oway?

Speaker 4 (16:26):
No, no, no, no, dared not.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
Speak those words.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
That's blas for me, right, I mean, don't forget that
team with John Itch was on Warren sapp Derek Brooks,
like Derek Brooks is by.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Far and will be the goat. And Lavonte David has
done a great job.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
For himself, you know, being a stewart and holding down
that middle linebacker position. But it will be forever for
me and maybe I'm just biased, it's gonna be Derek Brooks,
but hey, Labonte David is a hecup a linebacker and
it is all right.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
So there is such a thing as one A one
B and.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
The history of that Bucks defense.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
If you wanted to put together like an all time unit,
you could put together really fun one with John Lynch
Chantwine Winfield, Johnde Barber and Warrens. That staff of Vitavea.
They've got a bunch of fun guys from the generation.

Speaker 4 (17:17):
If I'm not mistaken, I think Hardy Nicholson was on
that team when they won the Super Bowl under Tony Dungeons.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Yell.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
I mean they would loaded Dexter Jackson at the safety position.
That type of Buggeers defense was loaded. And I remember
during that time in their run. That's the one thing
I told my agent, I say, look, man, I want
to play on that team, or I want to play
with John Lynch, who knew a couple of years later
we would become teammates with the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
That's pretty dang cool. What was it like playing with
John Lynch?

Speaker 4 (17:47):
It was very entertaining because John was a very physical guy.
Let some people tell they say John was dirty. I say, no,
it was physicality. But I got away with a lot
of things because the rent was always watching John. Two

(18:08):
absolutely love that story. That's hilarious.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Bill Barnwell listed the Denver Broncos as the ideal landing
spot for Star Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, who recently
requested a trade from the team and it looks like
the Seahawks might be having.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
A fire sale.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
Do you think DK Metcalf would be a good fit
and should the Denver Broncos try to trade for him?

Speaker 4 (18:33):
No, A Caboalho No, right, Okay, far as being fit,
I don't think he's an excellent fit for the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
I know he is a very physical.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Guy, and he runs routes on the route tree that
are very limited, and the one route he runs well
is a go route. Other than that, I mean what
else routes are you know you can look for him
to run.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
So no, not a great fit.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
There are a lot of the young wide receivers and
coming out in this draft that the Broncos can use
their draft to add depth and add more competition.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
But it's a note for meo.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
DK, I'm with you there. I think you know Courtland Sutton.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
Honestly, they're both kind of that X receiver prototype. I
know Cortland Sutton's future in Denver is up in the
air right now. But if I'm having to pick between
the two, and I think you are considering DK Metcalf
wants a new contract, he's going to cost draft picks
to acquire.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
You're probably not keeping both those guys.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
I think Courland Sutton is the better fit for this offense,
and we're talking about guys that are similar ages too.
I don't think, at the very least, I don't think
DK metcalf is appreciably better enough for me to expend
the premium with all that money with the draft picks
to try and get him over Courtland side.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
I think they're at least in the same ballpark.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
Yeah, same big body guys, DK, I think as more
street line speed. Well, once again, you already have that
body type in the building and you just have to
extend contract instead of giving up draft capital form.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
So it's court and sent for me.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Three more Seattle Seahawks news for you here. The Seahawks
are moving on from Tyler Lockett.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
They already released him. They have traded Gino Smith now.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
They've also released numerous defensive pieces, including former Denver Bronco
Draymond Jones. And as we just talked about, DK metcalf
is on the trade block, seems like he might be
on his way out to you. Does it seem like
the Seahawks are entering a full scale rebuild and do
you think that is the right move considering they were
ten and seven then tied with the Rams for the
best record in the NFC West last year.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
I'm gonna say yes.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
And coach Mike McDonald did a fantastic job along with
Gino Smith last year because they had over abundance of injuries.
And sometimes some teams say, well, they have to kind
of hit the reset button. He had the Pee Carroll Era. Yeah,
Russell Wilson, the legion of Boom. Now that is somewhat change.
They still live by the same model of playing defense

(21:00):
and getting corners that have that type of Richard Sherman
in type of heightened size and physicality. But yeah, I
mean sometimes you got to take a hard pivot to
go in a different direction. And with addition to Clint Kubiak,
obviously the offense is going into a different direction. He
it's DK you know, one in the trade getting rid
of Geno Smith and allowing Tyler Lockett to get his

(21:22):
walking paper. So sometimes you have to hit the reset button,
but you better hope that it.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Work out, no kidding. And now they have no quarterback.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
It's a head coach Entry in his second year with
the team, and if the coaches don't make playoffs for
the first three years, they typically get fired.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
What do you think the Seahawk's plan is going to
be a quarterback?

Speaker 5 (21:38):
Now?

Speaker 3 (21:39):
Well, the plant that quarterway. They got two. They got
three options.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Either they look to draft one that means they have
to move up, or they acquire Sam Donald's who's out there,
or they try to get kir Cousins in the trade
from Atlanta. I mean, he just old dude making a
lot of money just sitting on a bench. So the
Falcons thing that where we can acquire draft capital for him?

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Yeah? Why not? Michael Pennix is already the guy.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Anyway, would you rather trade up for Shador and all
the draft picks that's gonna cost a word?

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Do you think Sam Donald's the better bet at this point?

Speaker 3 (22:12):
Well, you know what I would say, Sam Donald. The
only reason I would say.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
That because once again, I'm not giving up draft capital.
Now I'm giving Sam Donald maybe a lucrative deal, more
lucrative than he's ever received, but at least I'm not
giving up draft capital. And still that doesn't necessarily mean
that Sam Donald is their quarterback for the next six years.
Seattle will still need to draft a young quarterback, and
it doesn't have to be Chador. There are a lot

(22:37):
of guys who are coming out who we're not talking about.
A lot that could be one of those guys who
find his way on the Seattle team and because of
the team chemistry and culture, man, maybe he could lead
them to the blowns.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
Who knows, they saw the Seahawks here before they signed
Matt Flynn and end up hitting a home run with
Russell Wilson or Washington Commanders made some big news today
when they decided to release star defensive tackle or defensive
end however you want to qualify him, Jonathan Allen Today,
are you at all surprised that they couldn't get a

(23:11):
trade sorted out for the star defensive lineman? Then do
you think that Denver Broncos should be at all interested
in adding Allen?

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Absolutely?

Speaker 4 (23:19):
Look, man, when guys are kind of giving them walking papers,
even if you don't think that you would be able
to acquiet and based on the salary, you at least
have to take a look at it, because if you don't,
you're not doing right by your team and your organization.
Take a look at him and say, okay, well, can
we make this work. What would it take to make

(23:40):
this work? In this case, you don't have to trade
for Jondan Allen. You could just sign him off the street.
But at the same time, you got Nick Benito and
you had Zach Allen well looking for big deals. So
John Dean Allen you can kind of get him, and
he's willing to take someone of a slight pay cut.
Then now it makes sense.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Now had to pick between the two, and Allen's under
Zach Allen that is, is under contract with the Broncos for
this upcoming season, so you don't have to They both
kind of play that interior pass rusher role. If you
had to pick between the chew Zach Allen and Jonathan Allen,
who would you prefer to have on the Broncos Zach Allen.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
I mean, Zach Allen was a.

Speaker 4 (24:15):
Monster last year and he created a lot of sacks
for Jonathan Cooper and Nick Benito by flushing quarterbacks on
the outside. And sometimes we measure success by a number
of sacks. For me, I think the league should now
start taking a percentage of I.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Guess when you look at pressure.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
Rate, because go back to that that's that game against
the Bengals. There was a lot of pressure being applied
by Zach Allen, and that that means now he's commanding
double teams, that means it's gonna leave someone else free.
So for me, once again may sound biased, but I'm
gonna go with Zach Allen.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
I fully agree.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
I think he had the most pressures on the team,
and he led all interior defensive line. Then that's Chris Jones,
that's Dexter Lawrence, that's anyone else you want to name
in pressures, And I think pressures you could argue just
as valuable as sacks. So it impacts everything just as
you laid out five. Another elite pass rusher guy we've

(25:15):
talked about a few times in this show, even star
Bengals edge Trey Hendrickson. He had the most sacks in
the NFL last year. He also has the most sacks
in the NFL over the past two seasons combined. He
has been granted permission to seek a trade from the
Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Do you think this is just more.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Evidence of the Cincinnati Bengals ownership just function.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
And the reason I'm gonna say that because once upon
a time I was a player in the Bengals organization,
and this is kind of hard for the course, these
are things that they do. And you would think that
the thirty two team everyone is about winning, but you
find out watching certain teams and how they move like
they're not.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
They just want to win enough games.

Speaker 4 (25:57):
And I mean allowing Trey Henderson to actually go out
and find a trade suitor, notice though he was your
best player on the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
For me, this was.

Speaker 4 (26:10):
Wild because it just kind of reminiscent of what the
Cincinnati Bengals are as an organization. But I was just like, man,
don't let him go to the Raiders. They don't let
him go to Kansas City, right, don't even let him
go to the Charges, because that's gonna be a problem.
Like if you were to team up Max Crosby with
Trey hendrickson, Oh, old boy, old boy, there's no way

(26:33):
you allow your running backs to go out because someone's
gotta tip somebody.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
Christian Wilkins on the interior to man, are you kidding me?
One of those guys that's gonna have a single team
and you don't want any of them to have a
single team.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
No, no, you don't, So I don't know what the
Bengals are thinking, but this may be the best thing
for trade hint Hendrickson if he can kind of get
out of Cincinnati another place that would be great to
match him up with Aiden Hutchinson in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
I love that one too, and one kind of similar to.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Detroit, where maybe he could be that piece that gets
them over the hump, helps him win a Super Bowl.
I like the idea of him going to Buffalo. I
think that pass rusher. One reason I think the Bills
haven't been able to get past the Chiefs is and
they were hoping Von Miller would have been this guy.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
He wasn't that guy. But they need that ace pass rusher.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
They need that closer who can stop homes from getting
out of the pocket and creating on them. I don't
know if the Bengals would be willing to help out
one of their top rivals in the AFC or the
Bengal would be going to help out one of their
top rosles in the AFC, But if they're open to it,
I think the Bills could be a really nice pairing
for him.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
Yeah. I like that because when you think about when
Cincinnati went to the Super Bowl, how do they get
to the Super Bowl. I mean they got there with
defensive pressure and Trey Hendrickson was a huge part of it.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Now you asked the question, would the Bengals actually do it? Yeah,
everyone has a price.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
If Buffalo, Sean McDermott and Brandon Bean are willing to
give up draft capital, I mean the Bengals would likely
take it.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
I agree, and I'll say this right now, Rockcus, if
le Broncos were in this position with three star players
coming up with contracts, they would find a way to
pay him because they got that ownership money.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Six a mid to talking about ownership.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
This one's bad, Nick, I'm really excited to hear your
opinion on this. Amid his public trade request, Miles Garrett
attempted to set up a meeting with Cleveland Brown's owner
Jimmy Haslam to try and work on.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
The relationship talk things out.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Jimmy Haslam rejected this meeting, said he wouldn't need with
Miles Garrett. Reporting he said he wouldn't need with Miles
Garrett and that if Miles Garrett wanted to talk about
his future with the Cleveland Browns, he would have to
meet with GM. Andrew Barry what do you make of
this decision from Brown's owner Jimmy Haslam and to the
Bengals question, is this more evidence of the Browns of dysfunction?

Speaker 4 (28:50):
Man? This makes everything really's helping from a negotiation standpoint
where you want to meet with the owner and kind
of air your grievances and he shoots that down and say, hey,
you know what, talk to the GM. I can understand
it to a certain point because the owners saying, look, I.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
Don't handle those types of things.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
I pay the tecks, right, But that's on the GM
to be able to break that down for you. But
I'm thinking for a guy who means so much to
Cleveland to not sit down with him.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
That looks bad. That's almost as.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
Bad as you know John Mara telling Joe Shay, Hey,
Sakwon Barkley is our best player, right, We're not gonna
trade him, and I don't want to see him go
to Philly and the next thing you know, he ends
up in Philly win in.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
A Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (29:33):
Absolutely, And if the Browns are to be believed about,
you know, we don't want to trade Miles Garrett. I mean,
here's a good opportunity for you to work on that relationship.
Maybe give him a big old bag of money and
make that work out. If you were a free agent,
if you're still in the league and you were looking
at the Browns doing this with Miles Garrett last season,
refusing to bench Deshaun Watson for the first half of

(29:54):
the season. Even actually they refused to Ben from all season.
He didn't exit the lineup until he was injured. Would
that impact your desire to sign and play for.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
The keyut off you dawn right.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
I mean, here's your star pupil and he's feeling as
though he's not getting the love he deserves, and he
wants to meet with ownership, just the top, just to
get a feel for for them, how they see him
and vice versa. And you can't get that meeting. You're right,
because here's one thing about it. Believe it or not,
Guys talk around the league. They tell inside. So you

(30:25):
know how like we had those NFLPA reports about the
grades on the team.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
Players talk to other players. This is how you entice
them to come.

Speaker 4 (30:33):
This is not going to, I guess age well for
the Cincinnati Bengals, And even if Miles Garrett is in traded,
is gonna make things difficult.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
I couldn't agree more.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
It's an absolute mess for the Cleveland Browns in an
organization that I don't know. I felt like after the
Baker pick it seems like maybe they were climbing back
into respectability or versus not being a tirefier.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Still the same old tirefire, it turns out.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
Still the same.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Well, thank you so much, Nick for helping me look
good here tonight.
