Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ball comes in to Andre Yakobowski and number sixteen seat
Colorado has set it again. The magic of March continues
in Kansas City in the Big twelve Conference tournament. The
Buffalos are on to the quarterfinals to face number one
Houston tomorrow at one o'clock Mountain Time, and saying block
off the EH seed West Virginia sixty seven to sixty.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Ah, the Magic of March my favorite time of year
as a sports fan. I'm your guest host Grant Smith
filling in for Benjamin Albright on Broncos Country tonight, sitting
in here with my guy Nick Ferguson, actually, who just
walked back into the studio, probably filming a video for
a social media page.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
But maybe I don't know. Nick.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Did you see this Buffs win coming today over West
Virginia in the Big twelve tournament?
Speaker 4 (00:49):
No idea.
Speaker 5 (00:50):
I would like to say that I had the Zack
Segers frame of mon like, yeah, Crystal Ball told.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Me, yeah, this is gonna happen. He's gonna set up.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
A bat on Thursday night with number one team in
the Big twelve.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
The hot Houston Cougar's.
Speaker 6 (01:04):
No.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I wasn't taking that way.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
I was shocked, sure, but always good to hear our
guy Mark Johnson on the call had one of the
best in the business, and maybe he saw it coming.
We'll ask him as we head out to the koa
common spirit.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Heal to hotline, Mark, how are you and I did
you see this two win, two game winning street coming
for the Buffs in the Big twelve tournament?
Speaker 6 (01:24):
Well, you know what, I'm a little bit like, you know,
like a guy Alfred Williams right every year to ask
you what do you think the Buffs are gonna do?
And he said they're gonna go twelve in the Eric.
He said that that's always kind of the way I although,
I will tell you this. When I left the house,
I was packing up. My wife came down where I
was putting my suit case together and I left and
I said, I'll be coming home on Thursday night. And
(01:46):
she says, what does that mean. I said, we're gonna
win the first two games and maybe we don't get
by Houston, it'll be a nice little run for the Bufflers.
So if you think that's me looking into a crystal all,
I guess you know. I packed them up socks and underwear.
They staying here through Thursday, So that that was my prediction.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
I guess that's hilarious. Now, my biggest question was like,
when you look at the Big Twelve and you looked
at the Buffs regular season record, it was like three
and seventeen. But they get these two wins and now
they're facing the top ten. Is there any glimmer of hope?
Tell me it's something that they stay competitive. But I'm thinking, like,
(02:20):
if they are able to pull this off, it would
be one of the biggest upsets. So is there a
possibility that the Buffs and tab Boyle could actually pull
this off?
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Well thought, I think this is the guy was just
talking about the reason we love March, right because.
Speaker 7 (02:34):
We see stuff like this happen all the time.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:37):
Mean, here's the thing about the season. The buff said,
we knew this was going to be a transitionary year
for Colorado. Ley lois essentially three first round NBA draft
picks last year on.
Speaker 7 (02:45):
That team, and they bought some new guys in.
Speaker 6 (02:48):
You're going to a Big twelve.
Speaker 7 (02:49):
What you're saying, you know, baby, the best basketball conference.
Speaker 6 (02:51):
In America, and so you knew it was going to
be a different year. They had a horrible month of January,
they just played it awful as team was trying to
figure out how to play. So they're start only thirteen.
They've gone five and four now in their last nine
and really a play pretty good basketball and guys. In
the month of February, the schedule got brutal at very
Highway State. They played Houston Kamsas and Arizona Huston came
(03:15):
into the events center back. Oh goodness, I think it
was about a month ago, and the boss played them
to a ten point game. We're within two with like
three and a half minutes left and in the contest,
and so listen, Houston's ferry are good, I can think
about it. That's a Final Four caliber team.
Speaker 7 (03:31):
They might be.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
The best defensive team in America.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
But you know, Cola is playing with energy right now.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
They've got some momentum, they're hitting some shots. The guys
who are having a good time. And let's be honest
about it. After two ballgames, you knocked off the ninth
seed and the eight seed. You know, we said more
license to you play with house money right now, So
go all that. Let it all hang out tomorrow and
see what happens.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah, teams with nothing to lose can be dangerous in March.
We've learned that over many years of college basketball. But
speaking of Tad Boyle, you know you mentioned I was
talking about this earlier to Nick off Air about the
players they lost from that magical run last March. But
they have really stepped it up, as you said, in
these last couple of months.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
What does this say about the coaching job that Tad.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Boyle has done this year to get the guys to
stay committed to the message even when they weren't seeing
the results earlier in the year.
Speaker 6 (04:19):
Well, you know, I said, what you're doing men into
some areas to talk about here, but that I'm ads
back and forth with fans about you guys know the
way it works when when a team under performs from expectations,
everyone starts calling for the coach and they you know,
me and the voice of the bots. I hear those.
I get messages all the time, and I've said, I
think he used done just about as good a coaching
job and his team as he has his entire career.
(04:40):
And so the people argue with me about that all
the time. As you see a lot of teams, we
all see this in these conference tournaments, teams that are
you know, maybe that you're Internet like expects. So they're
stacking the bats, right, I mean, they're they're starting to
think about the outseason, in particular in this nil transfer
portal world we live. You know, hear Danny Hurley just
the other day say that you already know. And half
his team has already figured out they're hitting the portal.
(05:02):
Most of them know where they're going next year. So
you can lose teams really quickly in modern college basketball.
And he's done a great job of keeping this team together.
They're playing hard, playing their best basketball. At the end
of the year, they're here's to No. Three, guys. I
was just starting to do some game pere toime at
the Houston Gay tomorrow. In Colorado's history, and you guys
will know this, it's I like the Buffaloes have got
University of Kansas kind of basketball history. In their history.
(05:26):
They've only won two games at a conference tournament eight
times and balls out at seven in his fifteen state.
This dude can coach man and he's done it with
as I like to say, the smallest payroll right now
in college basketball. And there are certain things he's got
to fight against He's really done a good job of
overachieving with this program, and it's a nice one. Right now,
(05:47):
He's not satisfied, and nobody is in Bustin shouldn't be
either satisfied with the way the season win. But it's
kind of nice to see this kind of uptick of the.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
MVA and the two games one against CCU and one
against West Virginia, these are both games that the bus
had to come back from double digits down to get
to w What does it say about Tad Balls and
his team more thans though they can go down double
digit but they still find ways to fight back.
Speaker 6 (06:12):
Well, you know, I think it's especially through in college
athletics in particular, maybe in basketball, because it's.
Speaker 7 (06:18):
A smaller roster, teams start to take up a.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
Personality their coaches. Is why you know, Bobby Knight led
teams have played.
Speaker 7 (06:23):
So hard, and you know what you think.
Speaker 6 (06:25):
About John Thompson at Georgistown.
Speaker 7 (06:27):
Or Mike Trchefski Duk or whomever where.
Speaker 6 (06:29):
I was at Syracuse and Jim Behint, those are tough guys.
Their teams played that way, and so I think this
team's got a little bit of a a's personality in them.
He's a berry.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
As nice a guy as he is.
Speaker 6 (06:39):
Would you talk to him and you you see him
speaking to different events. He's got a real nasty, h
competitive street get of it. And then so this team does,
I think reflect that little bit, and it just speaks
to once again that keeping them motivated, keeping them on point,
keeping them all focused and rolling in the same direction.
And you know, it's that's what makes this time of
year so much fun in college athletics because you can
(07:02):
see these kind of stories develop. For a low seed
or somebody from a lower conference or something you know,
catches fire and is playing good basketball. You need some
luck to happen as well, shots to go to fall. Well,
these are the great stories you love in the month
of March. It's just kind of fun to watch this one.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
It certainly has been fun listening to your calls on
KOA the last couple of days, and man Mark, we
appreciate your time as always, and hopefully the Buffs can
shock the basketball world again tomorrow and upset the Houston Cougars.
Speaker 6 (07:28):
You don't love our buddy, Jenny Jerry Shim will just
text me here a few minutes ago about wanting another
one I wrote back to Sham, we're out here, we
might as well win the whole dang thing.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
I love the mindset. Mark, have a great night. We
chat with you soon, all right to as Mark Johnson
the best.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
No one gets you pumped up for your home team
like Mark Johnson on the call, like we're so lucky
to have him and Dave Logan, as you know, home
and the Buffs and Home of the Broncos, and you
mentioned Jerry Shemmel. Jack and Jerry do a great job
as well. Baseball a little different beasts with one hundred
and sixty two games. But man Mark gets you pumped
up to listen to the Buffs.
Speaker 5 (08:03):
I'll tell you of man, if I'm a fan, that's
exactly the way I look at and knowing as though
those guys don't get a lot of validation all.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
The time, because you have to think of it.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
Those who are in the arena, are in the stands,
they get to fill the energy because they're there. But
for someone to give you and describe it to you,
like you know, step by step, way by word, you
hang on on every single word, and they're giving a
description that was happening, and that is a very important job,
and those are jobs that both of those guys definitely
(08:33):
take serious and you can see it. And when you
listen to Mark talk, I mean the level of excitement
and enthusiasm that he has for the game tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
And I haven't looked at.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
The Vegas odds, but I'm sure the Vegas odds don't
have CEU win in that game, and hopefully those kids
get a little motivated by that, known as though they
came back from double digit wins deficits twice, hopefully they
thinking that they can do the.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Same thing against Houston.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
I don't know about that. I guess so I have
right now game odds. What do you think the spread
is right now? How much?
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Just Houston favored by It's about eighteen seventeen ahead. Call yeah,
if they get down double digits. Man, you get down
by ten against Houston, it feels like thirty. So let's
hope they keep it close throughout and you can listen
to that game right here on the Home of the Buffs,
Kowa tomorrow pre game starting a twelve thirty tip off
right around one, and we'll hope for some more magic
(09:26):
from Mark Johnson and the Buffs. But I don't know man,
I'm not feeling too confident, but like Sneaker said, he
wasn't expecting to win these last two games, and I
was not either, So let's hope they continue that run.
Getting back to football conversation, we had a little bit
earlier and just my favorite call ever from Mark Johnson
during the.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Buffs game this past season. He's an aliens, He's a freak,
He's a mutton. He's the best player in college football.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
I've been talking about Travis under last season. We talked
about earlier about how people kind of pick apart every
aspect of players going into the draft, and we've seen
that with Travis Hunter.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
You know, we've also seen that with Shadua Sanders.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
I don't know if you've got a chance to hear
this sound, but this was Lewis Riddick on the Dan
Patrick Show. I want to get your thoughts on this after.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
I play it for you.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Him talking about a little bit about Chadu Sainders, but
also just the overall evaluation of quarterbacks going into the
NFL draft.
Speaker 8 (10:21):
Now, as far as him individually, why do they pick
at him on the field?
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Does he have cam Ward's arm?
Speaker 6 (10:28):
No?
Speaker 8 (10:28):
Do you need cam Ward's arm. Do you need John
Elway's arm? Do you need Josh Allen's arm in order
to play high level winning football in the NFL? No,
But at this time of year we always fall back
to those baseline, those baseline levels in terms of like
evaluating quarterbacks and saying, well, if you don't have a
rocket arm, you can't play.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
If you don't run for four like Lamar.
Speaker 8 (10:48):
And can create outside of structure and throw the ball
and switch it to your left hand like Patrick Mahomes,
you can't play.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
You're either a Hall of.
Speaker 6 (10:54):
Famer or you suck.
Speaker 8 (10:55):
And that's what it always comes down to this time
of your quarterbacks. There is no in between, And quite honestly,
I think that discussion stems from the fact that I
don't know if people really ever know what the hell
they really think about quarterbacks because it's such a dependent
position and it's so hard to get your arms around it.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Shador is very smart.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
He can process like hell.
Speaker 8 (11:15):
He's a good leader, he's got good feet in the pocket,
he throws a great ball, he has a lot of anticipation,
and he's tough as hell. He got the crap beat
at him and me at Colorado. Yeah, I was at
games and calling games where I'm sitting there looking at Dion,
who is like pleading with this on throw the ball
away or pleading with offensive coordinator run the ball.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
My son's getting murdered out here.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
That was Lewis Riddick on the Dan Patrick Show talking
about Shadi Sanders and just the overall evaluation of quarterbacks
and I think not only quarterbacks but all prospects leading
into the NFL draft. Love Lewis Riddick, Nick, what were
your thoughts on that?
Speaker 5 (11:54):
First of all, just like you, I like Lewis Reddick.
There's one of the reasons I follow him on on
X because I like his his insight. But he is
absolutely right. I mean, I've never gone through the draft
process myself being a player, but when you sit around
with the team and they go through and they start
(12:15):
to look at players, and you learn how the evaluation
process actually unfolds. You get a chance to see how
the sausage is made. Sometimes you like it, sometimes you don't. Right,
It's that type of thing, and when Let'll be back
in for a second. Every position is evaluated, but there's
(12:35):
only one position that is highly scrutinized, and that is
the quarterback position. They pick those dudes apart like no
one's business. And if you take a quarterback, you draft
him in the first round and you just set him
up and you threw him in. Say we're going to
baptism by fire. I've seen a lot of quarterbacks crumble.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
I think that's the worst progression of the NFL. I
guess it's a regression, but it's a trend that they
throw these guys in there before they're ready, behind bad
offensive lines and with.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
No weapons on them.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
I mean, think of how many bus we've seen just
in the past decade because they're thrown into these situations
that are horrible.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
And that's why, you know.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
I was back home from my grandpa's funeral this past weekend,
and everybody, when they find out what you do for
a living, they're like, oh, well, we got a talk
sports now, you know. So everyone's like, oh, I just
don't see it with Shader Sanders and I said, this
dude got hit more than any college football quarterback and
got up every single time and then delivered a sixty
yard dime down the field for a touchdown. This dude
(13:35):
is a perfect guy to be thrown into a baptism
by fire.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Because he had it with CEU.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
They had no depth on their roster his first year here,
and he still put up great numbers.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
And then you see when they put a little.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Talent around him, build up the offensive line a little
bit through the transfer portal, he put up Heisman numbers.
I think he's a perfect guy to be put into
a bad situation.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
This is probably the first time I would actually say
this because this example fits per based on what we
saw Sharudor endure the past two seasons. Went to see
you offensive line going to the NFL team.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
It's an upgrade. Even if you go into a.
Speaker 5 (14:12):
Team that did not play well the previous year, and
if they're picking in the top ten and top five,
obviously they're deficient.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
In certain areas.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
Right, So you're walking into the building and say, you
know what, I'm gonna get sacked, But it's not gonna
look like anything it looked like when I was sacked
at see you. And once again, I was there the
game where Shador got injured, went in and had time,
took a shot, came back out.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
Now, for all these individuals criticizing this kid saying, Okay,
well he's kind of thinking about himself, his rap career
and his confidence a little too much. Yess what that
means that maybe you're not confident enough in yourself, because
if you.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Are confident as an office.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
Of coordinator, as an owner, as a GM, you would
have no problem with him to spa his level of confidence.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
Because once again double ed Soword, a guy with too
much confidence a problem.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
A guy that doesn't have enough confidence a problem.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
So which one do you want?
Speaker 6 (15:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (15:11):
And I think that story we played when I was
fun with and with you a couple of weeks ago
from Chris Carter talking about Shadur Sanders and how he
acted when no one was watching from the driver that
drove them around at the college football championship game. That's
all you need to know. Yeah, he is his father's son.
There's gonna be some cockiness and some attitude to him,
but he's earned that and so did coach Prime. So
(15:33):
I mean, I'm with you. You know, I think the
more confidence the better at the quarterback position.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
So I'm high on.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Cheddars really really quickly.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
I had a chance to speak to the volleyball team
at Douglas County High School today and that was one
of the things I told him, I say this is saying, well,
a man is judged by what he does when no
one's watching, because if someone's watching and being a helicopter
parent or coach.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Oh you're gonna but no, you're gonna do everything privately.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
Well, what happens when you're on your own and there's
no one there to hold your morals and your ethics
in check?
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Can you hold up?
Speaker 5 (16:07):
And to me the Chris called the story and everything
that I've heard about Shador regardless of how he speaks
in the ooh's confidence that dude is the type of
guy that you want leading your team.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
We got the NFL six back.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
When we come back on Broncos Country Night on KOA
A fifty AM ninety four to one FM, Grant Smith
filling in for Benjamin Albright as he's a little under
the weather.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
We hope to get ben back tomorrow night, but in the.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Words of Steve Atwater, we'll see. So thanks to Steve
the Hall of Famer for joining us. In the first hour,
Ryan Michael going inside the numbers a little earlier, and
then the voice of the Buffs, Mark Johnson talking about
the buffs big win over West Virginia in the Big
twelve Tournament earlier today.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
They'll be back at it.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Tomorrow taking on the Houston Cougars, which they are a
seventeen and a half point underdog. But that's the beauty
of March madness. You never know well how these games
are going to play out.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
And Nick, I gotta apologize to you.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
I killed off your Georgia Tech Yellowjackets postseason run earlier
saying they lost, but they survived that comeback from from
Virginia and pulled out another wind to live another day and.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Play duke tomorrow in the a SEC Tournament.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
I knew that, but I just wanted to just kind
of let you good out there and run with it.
You know.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
It's just made for great humor on my part.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Yeah, Well, probably the people that understood that I was wrong,
and they probably got some laughs out of that too.
By the way, the KOA Tournament updates are presented by
Exfinity stream Live Sports.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
From the Best Seat in the House.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Also, our iHeart Radio app has been redesigned and you
can now set KOA as a preset on our free
and redesigned iHeart Radio app like you have in your car.
Our iHeart Radio app users are loving the new industry
first features. So help make KOA the number one preset
on the iHeart Radio app where you listen to the
Buffs game tomorrow or a Rockies game.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
That's how I always like to use it.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Or you can hear me on KBCO most evenings from
eight pm to midnight. Wanted to get your thoughts on
a couple texts that came in on the KOA Common
Spirit health text line. This one I can answer from
the seven to one to nine. Does the winner of
the Big Twelve Tournament punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament? Yes,
every conference tournament winner makes.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
It to the Big to the Big Dance. So if CU.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Somehow continues this miraculous run and wins the.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Big twelve Tournament, they will be dancing.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Despite their three to seventeen record in the Big Twelve
in the regular season that Nick mentioned earlier.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
A couple of other texts six h nine.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
I'm glad they re signed DJ, but I'm still worried
about the nose. Part of me thinks that they will
look long and hard at drafting one high in the draft.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Nick, what say you about that?
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Absolutely?
Speaker 5 (18:50):
Once again, I Remember this is this part of the
draft is about adding depth, right. You already cemented yourself
with veterman players. Now to go out there and get
cost effective younger guys can come in and depinitely compete.
Speaker 6 (19:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
This one from frankin Texas.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Do you think there's a sense within the building at
Dove Valley the window is starting to open? Everything screams
let's at least take a shot at the division this year.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Just my perspective as a fan.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
Yeah, it's just like the window when I was a kid.
We got that thing propped up with the two by four.
So the window is.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Now open, right.
Speaker 5 (19:26):
The Broncos are now open for business, So start serving
these opponents.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Yeah, man, I hope so. But man, what a division?
Speaker 2 (19:34):
The AFC West is one more from Keith and Orlando.
This is from our discussion earlier about Alex Singleton. You
just said that Singleton had one hundred and seventy eight
tackles even though he had such a high.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Missed tackle rate.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
That tells you that he is the guy that didn't
give up on the play and ran down field and
still made the tackle. A guy with that kind of
heart is who I want on our team.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
I would agree with that, Texter, And I've been trying
to get Jack Segers see that maybe your words will
be the final straw that opens up his heart and
allow him to see that great wisdom.
Speaker 9 (20:08):
That's not that I don't think that's a great asset
to have. You know, I love a Hamburger? Do I
like a hamburger for six million dollars? That's that's a
little rich for me. Do I I love having that
asset on my team? Do I like it for six
million dollars?
Speaker 6 (20:21):
Now?
Speaker 9 (20:21):
When Denzel Perrman offers it and he's sitting out there.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
For two million dollars?
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Not when you can get that royale with cheez exit
And with that, let's get to the NFL six pack.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
It's time for the NFL six pack.
Speaker 6 (20:34):
I'm gonna trade the last year insight and insight information
you can't find anywhere else. I know six the top
six NFL headlines.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
What going fast here?
Speaker 9 (20:46):
The New York Jets officially brought their Aaron Rodgers saga
to an end by releasing.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
The mbattled quarterback.
Speaker 9 (20:54):
With most of the landing spots already filled, where do
you think Rogers will play in twenty twenty five?
Speaker 4 (21:00):
And the hell if I know.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Because Rogers doesn't know, right, you might need another Ayahuaska trip.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
He did this before.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
This is his modus OPERINDI right, make people wait until
he decided what he's gonna do. If I'm the Giants,
if I'm the Pittsburgh Steelers, I'm.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Not holding out hope for Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
I'm gonna go out there and make a move, even
if that is if the Steelers bring it back. Russell Wilson,
who is going to visit with the Cleveland.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Browns and the Giants. But you don't wait on air.
Speaker 5 (21:29):
We've seen this movie before and we don't need to
extend it out of this cut to know how it ends.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
I tell you one guy who's ready for Aaron Rodgers
to make the decision and is fed up with waiting.
Adam Schefter had this to say earlier today.
Speaker 10 (21:42):
To me, this shouldn't be that hard, right, Like the
Steelers want you, the Giants want you. We're seeing players
across the league make decisions. It shouldn't be that hard.
Either you want to play or you don't. You want
to play Pittsburg, or you don't. You want to play
in New York, or you don't like Chewie, what are
you going to launch? You shoul get drag it out
for four days, five days a week.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
It's not that hard make the decision a little bit.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
With that being said, I think he ends up as
a Pittsburgh Steeler, I agree.
Speaker 9 (22:11):
Contrasting how easy it might with Tadam Schefter was the
TMZ photo that came out today of Aaron Rodgers wrapped
in a blanket walking on the beach looking.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
A little little worse for wear too long time.
Speaker 9 (22:25):
Bronco's rival Joey Bosa is signing with the Buffalo Bills.
Do you think he could be the missing piece for
the Buffalo Bills to finally get past Mahomes?
Speaker 8 (22:36):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (22:37):
No, Because Joey Bose's production has gone down in his
time with the Charges.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
That's why they let him go. And the reason, man
is because he's got to be at the different games
and he's not healthy. So that's a huge part of it.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
Now, will it encourage him and revitalize him going to Buffalo,
Yes it will, But will it be enough by itself
to get them passed to chief?
Speaker 4 (23:00):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
No, I don't think so either.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
I still like Joey Bosa as a player if he
does stay healthy. But I don't think he's enough of
a difference maker at this point in his career to
be the missing piece for the Buffalo Bills. But that
being said, I wouldn't be shocked if the Bills do
unseat the Chiefs this next year as the top AFC
team and go to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 9 (23:22):
Hurry, Russell Wilson, another quarterback, flew into the sorry, flew
into Cleveland today to meet with the Browns. What do
you make of the potential fit between Russell Wilson and
the Browns And do you think he could solve their
quarterback crisis.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
I think he can because once again was talking about
a crisis that has been in limbo for several years.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
And you got a.
Speaker 5 (23:47):
Guy who is still I say, playing at a decent
level and at a high level, him coming and started
making some plays. And oh, by the way, there's a
wide receiver that's there that he's quite familiar with, by
the name of Jerry Judy, who follow him finally made
the Pro Bowl, right, which I forgot about that connection, right,
the connection that's there, David and Joeku was there. Mill's
(24:07):
gable to sign back. So that's a veteran piece that
is actually working. You've already traded for Kenny Pickett, So
to me, I think you could work.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Man.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
What a what a deal for my house garret.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
You know, I saw a meme today on Instagram where
it was like, I want to leave. I'm never coming back,
no negotiations, And then the Browns came back and said,
how about forty million dollars?
Speaker 3 (24:27):
And he said, my brother in christ, what did you say?
Speaker 5 (24:30):
So?
Speaker 3 (24:30):
I think money talks in the end of the NFL,
But I like Russell.
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Wilson anywhere he could get a job, and I think
that's what.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
He's looking for these days.
Speaker 9 (24:38):
I think you're right grant for fine ESPN today. This
one's juicy. I think Ryan Clark suggested the forty nine
ers should look to trade Christian McCaffrey, their star running back.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Do you think San Francisco should consider moving their start
running I actually have that audio. I'll play it for
you right now.
Speaker 11 (24:57):
I would absolutely trade Christian McCaffrey, and I would try
to get as much as I could possibly get for him.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
When you look at what Kyle Shanahan.
Speaker 11 (25:04):
Has been able to do, it's run the football, and
I know, we thought last year they missed some of
the things with the versatility of Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
But when you trade, you.
Speaker 11 (25:14):
Check, you let some of that versatility go, You let
some of the things you can do formationally go.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
And so why not change your entire philosophy.
Speaker 11 (25:22):
From thinking about Christian McCaffrey as this Swiss army knife,
getting pieces for him and allowing allowing guys like Ricky
Pirosol to touch the football more with running the football
and doing different things on quick screens, adding other players based.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
On the assets that you could get for them.
Speaker 11 (25:37):
Also understanding you're looking for more available players than Christian
McCaffrey was last year.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
You had a good stretch with him.
Speaker 11 (25:45):
You took your run at the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
You didn't get it.
Speaker 11 (25:48):
If you're going to rebuild, rebuild completely.
Speaker 5 (25:51):
I respectfully disagree with Ryan Clark because he's on the
dissumption that there is value out there for CMC and
once again, very talented running back.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
I love the kid.
Speaker 5 (26:03):
Once again, Once you start to add injuries into the
equation and then Lord leg injury being the Achilles and
he's a running back, very versatile, now you kind of
limit your option.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
So for a team and say.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Okay, well, if I want CMC, I'll wait until you
cut it. I'm not going to trade for him and
give you more draft capital for what.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
So I totally disagree with his take by rank class.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
You know, I was actually gonna agree with Ryan Clark
until you made that point.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
And I think you're right.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
I think that you have more value in keeping Christian
McCaffrey on your team then you're going to get back
in a trade.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
So I agree.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
He is still a very productive player when he's on
the field.
Speaker 5 (26:41):
Well, and the other reason why you can't well, I
gave you one as far as the.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Injuries concerned, but you have to look at what the
forty nine ers have done.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
They have d up so many guys, I think at
seven twelve guys.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
So you need to.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
Keep some form of consistency. And I know Kyle is
a genius. Once again, no one's gonna pick up CEMC
with any truth.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
By count there.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
Expect right, hey, holiday past hey.
Speaker 9 (27:12):
Once you get once you get four in, you started
losing count. The Rams officially released Cooper Cup today.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
Allowing him to find a new team for.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Twenty twenty five.
Speaker 9 (27:21):
The broadcast have been connected some of course, at least
in fans, hearts and minds.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Where do you think Cooper Cup will wind up playing
in twenty twenty five?
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Well, okay, so I got a couple of teams.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
I'm thinking Detroit is an excellent opportunity.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
I look at Buffalo and also look.
Speaker 5 (27:37):
At Kansas City and the Minnesota Vikings because Kevin O'Connell
spent time in Sean mcvay's offense and he knows Cooper
Cup and Cooper Cup, I guess joining Jordan Addison and
you know, justin Jefferson, to me, you could be the
third Will in the season with like maybe sixty receptions,
So that would be a great place. But those are
(27:59):
the teams that I think will be best for suited
for a guy like coopercor.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
And you know when we started talking about Cooper Cup
when he announced that the Rams were going to trade
him and then ultimately couldn't find a trade partner and
ended up releasing him, was how much time he spent
in the film room with Matthew Stafford and how he
learned to see the game through a quarterback size And
what better fifth in Minnesota when you're moving on from
a couple veterans, and you need someone to help JJ
(28:23):
McCarthy understand.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
How the NFL game works. I like the Minnesota Vikings
as a favorite.
Speaker 9 (28:27):
If the Vikings landing, that might be one of the
greatest receiving corp you've ever seen an NFL history period.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
That would be very exciting.
Speaker 9 (28:34):
Six mac Jones couldn't Jo mac Jones, so that we
were talking about during the break. Mac Jones is signing
with the San Francisco forty nine ers to be their
new backup quarterback, four years after San Francisco famously passed
on him in the twenty twenty one draft in favor
of drafting Trey Lance. They were heavily connected to mac
(28:56):
Jones during that pre draft cycle in that bay was
are they going to go mac Jones?
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Are they going to go Trey Lance?
Speaker 9 (29:01):
Well, now Trey Lance is a free agent, Mac Jones
is a free agent, and they.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
Opt to sign mac Jones.
Speaker 9 (29:06):
What do you guys think of this kind of poetic
conclusion to the saga.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
I'm thinking the forty nine ers we're saying, we think
the heav is that we did not take mac Jones.
Because if mac Jones's falling into your lab that's selling.
He didn't really have a lot of success in the NFL.
And then think about last year Jacksonville Jaguars had two quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
Who were drafted in the same year in the.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
First round on the roster and Trevor Lawns and Mac Jones.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
So hey, great reunion. Now you get a chance.
Speaker 5 (29:38):
To kick the tires on him. But here's where I
look at Mac Jones. He's just a younger version of
Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
See, I don't even think he's that.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Kirk Cousins has had some great moments, and I know
Mac Jones made the Pro Bowl as what like the
seventh alternate.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
When he was at New England that one year.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
What accounts that it counts, And I think he this
is his role in the NFL going forward. He's going
to be a confident back up and if something happens
to bron Party's are gonna go in there and play admirably.
He's not gonna shine, He's not gonna shine on the field,
but he's gonna get you in positions to win games.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
And I think that's who Mac Jones is now.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
So I think it is nice the poetic justice as
Zack Seegers put it that he finally ends up back
in the Bay Area.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
This is like I put this on You're not here
for this, so I put this on on X. If
you can live out your football dreams, what position would
you want to play in?
Speaker 4 (30:27):
Why? And I guess massive numbers.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Was quarterback, back up court and it wasn't start at quarterback,
backup quarterback.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
I I always say about being a relief pitcher.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
In the major leagues.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Man, nothing better than that role except for when your
name gets called on and you aren't ready for it.
But backup quarterback in the NFL with the money they're
making now, I mean.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
You saw the Broncos bring back Jared Stidham.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
I mean, heck, if you're gonna make five to ten
million dollars and never see the field, that's a pretty
good deal.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
Well, well, Chase Dames made a career out of it. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
So I mean, parents, I know you want your kid
to be a starting quarterback, but there's other opportunities.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
He could be a quarterback, just be a backup quarterback.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
I'm training mine.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
If I'm lucky enough to have a boy, I'm putting
a football up to his foot. Well, kicker was number two. Okay,
but there's a lot of stress as a kicker. You know,
well you're either really really good.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Or you're looking for a job on Monday.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
But it all depends on the moment of the game
that happens, right like kickers, like you know, Kansas City,
time running out, gotta make that kick, yeah, unless it
get blocked.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Well, our time's running out.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
On Broncos Country to Night, Nick, thanks again for making
this easy.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
That's the one man. Welcome back man, glad to see
your face.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
I am glad to be back.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Hopefully we'll have Benjamin all right back tomorrow. But that
says so long for us Tonight on Broncos Country Night
on KOA eight fifty am ninety four to one FM.
