Speaker 1 (00:00):
Lin's been an old bride brand Smith back there behind
the glass axe.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
You'res joining us here in the first seg We're gonna
do an NFL six back here in just a minute
five six six nine zeros text line. You guys want
to get involved in the conversation, Maybe bet Anett'll going
to join his bottom of the hour talk a little nuggets.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
We got Parker Gabriel coming to seven o five.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
We'll talk a little bit more as a draft inching closer, Guys,
are you getting excited about the NFL Draft?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Extremely? I can't wait for it. I think this is
going to be a big one for the Broncos. It's
fun to kind of be in this middle area. We're
not having to obsess over all the quarterbacks. The board's
pretty wide open for him. And the more and more
I look into this class, even though you know the
first round might not be as exciting as past drafts,
I think there's a great chance the Broncos get a
(00:41):
prospect that fits them really well and is talented that
falls all the way to twenty.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Is there anybody that either of you two guys want
not you know, take away from who you think they're
taking is there anybody you just want, you want.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
The Broncos to get that guy.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
I'm falling in love with Quinnchawn Jugkins in Ohio State. Well,
he's not from Ohio and he played for the Buckeyes,
which are not the first date school in Ohio obviously not.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
But all that aside, I really like him.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
And we had Justin mellow On from the Draft Network
on KOA Sports earlier today and he just raved about
his football IQ and being a three down back at
the next level.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
I think he's just what the Broncos need.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
And I think if you look at him when he
was at Ole Miss, it's a much better player. I
wonder if at Ohio State they were like, hey, we've
got Trevon Henderson.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
To guess the explosive place.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
You just keep us on schedule, because I think he
was a little less creative this year and you didn't
see him trying to burst those big plays and more
just comfortable. I am a fast, huge, physical force and
I can fall forward and get four yards every time.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
And that's what should Kelly has.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
He wants the guy to wear you down and grind
you down and then he's gonna boom hit you with
the explosive guy, which is what they did with him,
and understanding your role, you know, coming into a team
that has a lot of talent and saying, hey, I
can do this job, and I'll do it better than
anybody else.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Let me run a hypothetical value before we get to
the six pack.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
What if what if a team like and we'll pick
one sort of at random here, what if a team like,
for instance, the New York Giants decided they wanted to
trade back up. She do or starts fall and they
decide they want to trade up ahead of Pittsburgh get
the quarterback there at twenty. What would you guys think
if the Denver Broncos traded out of twenty take maybe
a Mason Taylor with that second round or they get
from the Giants, you get Queen Shot Judkins a little
bit later in the second round with your own pick,
(02:20):
and no, by the way, you get a little some
future draft capital to go with that.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
You what would you grade a maneuver like that? A plus? Yeah,
A plus. I would absolutely love that.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
I think there are guys who I might have as
my favorites around that twentieth pick. But the plateau of
talent in that portion of the draft becomes very very
real unless you know there's there's one of those very
few special prospects. If at Colston Loveland somehow miraculously falls
to twenty or something, that might complicate it. But otherwise
I feel like I'm kind of getting two for the
price of wine.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Far enough, all right, without then any further ado, Let's
get the NFL six pack.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
It takes time for the NFL six PATI trade last
year insight and insight information you can't find anywhere else.
No the top sixline.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
What When asked about Mark Andrews' future with the Baltimore Ravens,
the team's GM Eric Acosta said, I never know what's
gonna happen, and I would never want to say this
or that, and he gave a longer answer that was
incredibly wishy washy about whether or not they would trade
Mark Andrews reference that the team hasn't traded a player
(03:24):
during the draft unders watch, which isn't true. They've traded
Marquis Brown under his watch during the draft. Do you
think we'll see Mark Andrews move this offseason, and if so,
where do you think that could be.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
I would say I believe he'll get moved.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
There are some tight ended teams out there that maybe
and maybe if you're the Ravens, I think you hang
on a little bit because there's a couple of tight
ends in this draft.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Maybe you hang on to that just.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
A little bit, uh, in an effort to get somebody
that's thirsty and needs one after the draft has done,
has no other options. Maybe you can ransom a little
bit higher, you know, uh, the Indianapolis Colts, and I
believe you know there, I believe that's where Colton Lowlan
is gonna windu. But the Ingapolis culture somebody that's very
much in the market for a tight end. And so,
you know, I think there are I think there are
(04:08):
teams that would be interested in Mark Andrews if any
on what the cost would be. You know, I'm not
against Denver even making a move there because he's a
guy who can play in line and that's what they need.
Ingram Ingram's not even like I hate the way we
talk about Edvit Ingram is a joker, a tight because
he's not really that.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
He's a heavy slot, that's what he is. And so
you know, I kind of I kind.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Of like the idea if of that, if you don't
get a Mason Taylor in a draft, maybe you maybe
you trade for a Mark Anders, a future five or
four from Mark Andrews, and you know, bring him in
so you've got somebody can.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Go in line and be in line like that.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I would love that move because it would just immediately
remedy it. Given his contract, his end, his age, I
don't think it should be overly expensive to acquire him either.
One team I'm thinking about though, just with the connective tissue,
maybe the Chargers. They need a tight end this year.
You've got the Harbaugh connection of course, of AFC teams.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Though, I certainly want to keep your eye on there.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
They added somebody this off season, but I can't remember
who they added. I was a big name, but they've
added a body in that room. I had to go
back and look anyway.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Two Tyler Conklin Jalen Ramsey has officially requested a trade
from the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
What are your expectations for.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
The Miami Dolphins in this make or break season as
they're starting to lose pieces here and where do you
think Ramsey lands.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
I think we had a conversation about them shopping him
a few days maybe off the air.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah, that was as I was heading out the door.
That's right. You gave me heads up there.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
That's been known. They've been shopping him for a while.
You're not going to get much for him.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
It'd be a Day three pick. You're just not gonna
get much for him.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Where he goes, you know, anybody's gas. I would have
said New Orleans except they can't afford it, So you
know that would be the connection there obviously with you
know Staley haven't been a defensive coordinator there before. I
don't know where else you go. If you Jayla Rabs,
you've been around in the places that.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
You've been, don't really line up. They'll find something for him.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Jalen Ramsey's kind of a I almost he's a shell
of himself, but kind of You go back and you look,
he was terrible in his own coverage. Uh, his man
coverage is okay, but it's it's he's got to the
point where he's an average corner in the league.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
It's getting a huge loaded contract.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Uh. The Dolphins, they've they've got the problems. They've got
to make stuff for it. They have to make the playoffs.
This year, or they're cleaning house career and uh, Mike
McDaniel be gone the kill of things. You know, he's
got to work out this year, they'll be on the
hunt for another quarterback. So this is this is make
or break for the this this iteration of the Miami Dolphins.
And I would be surprised if not only Ramsey but
Tyreek Hill were to get Delts as well.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
Wasn't Jalen Ramsey one of the guys that was super
vocal about Vic Fangio and how he didn't like his defense,
and then Vic goes to the Eagles and wins.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
We see that.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah, when we got to the Philadelphia, didn't have a
bunch of bums all of a sudden, you know, all
of a sudden that defense was good.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yeah, amazing how that works. Yeah, and you got to think.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
The price is going to be very cheap tier for you,
because yeah, two years ago when he got traded from
the Rams to the Dolphins, was a better player, a
lot younger too. He goes for just the third round
picking a random tight end hunter lonch So pretty cheap
this week YEP. Three five time All Pro and eight
time Pro Bowl left tackle Tyrone Smith has signed a
(07:14):
one day contract with the Dallas Cowboys so he can
retire with the team he played the majority of his
career with What will you remember about Tyrone Smith the player?
And how do you think he stacks up among the
best Cowboys of.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
The twenty first century? Oh, he's up there certainly.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
You know, just remembered him and Zach Martin on that
same line, you know, paving the way you know he was.
There's some great some people had some great highlight clips
of him out there. My good buddy Jeff Schwartze's brother,
Mitchell Schwartz, he's played for Chiefs. He he'd had a
clip out there about some of the things that he
would do, like on screenplays that allowed him to get
out there because he was so athletic in his size
(07:51):
that allowed them to run certain kinds of screen plays
out there. And he always said he was envious of
his ability athletic ability to be able to do that.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
You know.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
It's kind of funny. We and Denver had of an
opposite example of that. I believe it was who was
the mountain that was playing right tackle a couple of
years ago, but we got from the Bucks. Was it
Dotson YESR Dowson, Mar Dotson, and he just could not
get out there. Was supposed to a screenplay to I
think it was Freeman playing running back at the time,
but he was split out wide it was. And Dodson
didn't even get halfway to the block point that he
(08:19):
was supposed to get, like just as fast as he
could still was like slower than molasses in January. And
you know it was kind of the opposite of that.
No Smiths, go East's up there. Fantastic player, a great
human being. Don't have anything negative to say about it
at all.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Yeah, the new great Wall of Dallas. A crazy talent
and those that you're talking about. He's running stride for
stride with cornerbacks out there. Yeah, so he can make
the block. Just a crazy, crazy athlete.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Is he a first ballot Hall of Famer? Yah? Yeah, yeah,
yeah Dallas.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
And it's crazy, first bout Hall of Famer. His career
could have been even better if he had bitter injury.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Luck help me.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Look, Nick Schubb remarked this week in an Instagram post
of him squatting five hundred and seventy five pounds. They've
already wrote my ending when I'm just getting started. When
do you think we'll see Nick Chubbs sign with the team,
if at all?
Speaker 1 (09:08):
And if he signs, what.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Are your expectations for him this upcoming season after the draft?
Speaker 2 (09:13):
West Coast Zone run team expectations are low. Nobody cares
what you squat anymore. It's can you know, it's can
you get to run football? Can you run a rock
for better than two points to a carry?
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Which is you know? Which is a question? It's a shame.
I mean, Nick Chubb's a phenomenal human being. You asked
Shelby Harris about him, raised but about Nick Chubb.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
But at the same time, I mean, you know, it's
a business, and you know, running back position, you're on
the wrong side of the age thing, you're on the
wrong side of the injury thing, you're on the wrong
side of the contract thing, and you play the running
back position. It's there's just some economic realities here. I
don't expect much from him from going forward. You know,
maybe somebody gets him on the cheap and makes him
kind of a goal line, short yardage guy, but that's
(09:53):
best probably about it.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Yeah, something like where we saw Gus Sash where it's
at most to do last year that short yardage guy.
He's a veteran you can trust in pass protection.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
But that's about it. One little Nick Schub point though
I see.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
A lot of him in Amari and Hampton, kind of
that that zone back. Once he gets rolling downhill, you
really can't stop. That was the comparison I made.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
I like I said, I would have loved prime Nick
Chubb here and you have a chance to get that
in a Gaylico.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Marion happen five Lyons cornerback Terry and Arnold. I think
this is a nice story.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Will be changing his number to number six to honor
his late friend and former teammate Kyrie Jackson. Jackson and
Arnold spent the two years together at Alabama in that
defensive backfield before Jackson transferred to Oregon for his final year.
Last year, he was a draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings.
But before the season could start to really I think
training camp could start, he was unfortunately the victim of
(10:44):
a reckless driver and died in the accident.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
What do you think about.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Arnold choosing to represent and honor the late Kyrie Jackson
in this way?
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Oh good for him, man, you know, it's kind of funny.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Kyrie Jackson was a guy who struggled with some things
off the field, uh and finally finally kind of got
his act together up there at Oregon under Dan Lanning.
You know, I we had a chance to talk to
Dan Lanning for the draft last year and he was
talking about.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Him, you know how how good it was that.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
He overcame some personal struggles things like that. You know,
it's a shame he passed away much too young. Somebody
I remember somebody getting on Twitter last year or something
like that. They'm talking smack about him, and I can't
remember who it was. One of the journalists was sit
there talking about to be able a band teammate or something.
It's some dumb I don't know. Anyway, Good for him, Good.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
For Terry Farmer. Yeah, I think it's a great story.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
I think this is an undervalued aspect of sports for
a lot of people because these brotherhoods you you form
in a locker room with teammates that you know, this
is something that's gonna continue his legacy even though he
was gone too soon.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
I think it's a really special story.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Well, the camaraderie sports, what sports he is about, right,
and the in you know, it's it's the great equalizer.
You know, we're in there, we make we make friends
from different backgrounds, different you know, different skill sets, different
personality types, because we're all there to accomplish the same mission.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
And to your point, Grant, you know he hasn't played
with him in two years. He only played with him
for two years, and yet that bond still bent so
much to him.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Six. Travis Hunter said he would quote never play football
again in an interview with CBS Sports if an NFL
team told him he could only play one position at
the next level. What do you make of that proclamation
from Hunter?
Speaker 1 (12:23):
Do you believe him?
Speaker 3 (12:25):
And if you were a GM, would it impact your
desire to draft him in don't.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Believe Hi wouldn't have affect me one way or the other.
You know, if we're drafting the guy, we're drafting the guy.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
We're gonnaell h where we're gonna put him, and if
he wants to earn something else, you can try to
earn it.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
That's just how I would approach it.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
You know, I see Hunters as a corner that you
put a receiver package in and build him out from there.
There are other teams like the Browns will see if
the other direction that he's a receiver only, and maybe
we got some corner stuff for him. And I just,
you know, it just kind of depends on, you know,
how you look at it. The player doesn't dictate that
though I'm doing what's best for the team as a
general manager. Is a coach, we're dealing with best for
(13:00):
the team, and you know we're going from there. And
I just don't, you know, Yeah, whatever it was that
he said, I don't have the exact quote, but whatever
it was that he said to me, it was weird
thing to say anyway, Like what are you doing saying
stuff like that?
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Don't they'll do that too close to the draft.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
It's not gonna affect anything, but it's just gonna make
everybody look at you sideways.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
I am curious, because I agree. I don't think it's
even gonna come into effect. I think whoever drafts him,
you're going to take advantage of his special talents on
both sides of the ball. But I'm curious how a
team like the Browns or you know, maybe the Patriots
v falls that that far somehow will go about sprinkling
him in on defense. I think it's simpler at least
to have him be a full time cornerback and sprinkling
(13:41):
you know, some offensive plays here or there for him,
and a little more complicated to do that on defense.
But given how those two teams have their rosters built,
it makes sense to use them primarily as a wide receiver.
So I'm curious to see how those coaching stats figure
out that problem.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Yeah, it'll be it'll be fascinating to see what they
do for him in the coming years.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
As far as this stuff goes, it's a good problem
to He's an alien, he's.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
A freak, he's at he's the best.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Player in college football that we're using that quote forever,
like that's I just love it.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
So I'm keeping that forever. Mark Johnson's just great.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
That was the NFL Sixpactor, then a little early because
we got some guests on the back end of the
show and obviously some Colorado Rockies baseball coming up here
at seven thirty.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Cover starts here at seven thirty on KA.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
You know, interesting day working the phones for me today,
try to try to start getting some of this draft
info down, all that kind of stuff. There was some
and I hesitate to call it a report but there
was something on Twitter about the Raiders not being on janty.
Somebody I talked to laugh at that. It benefits the
(14:43):
Raiders to have that out there right now because they've
got Colton Miller who's wanting the new contract and they're
not engaging with him on that. So it benefits them
in the in the negotiation or lack thereof with Colton
Miller to say, you know what, we could be drafted
an offensive tackle at six pipe down Jr.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
You know, as far as that kind of stuff goes.
So it's it's sort of interesting.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
To see as the smoke ramps up right before the draft.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
What's you know, what's real and what's not.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
I also wonder how much of it is damage control.
You know, these guys always want to sell well, we
got our guy, we got our number one guy that
you never.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
See the GM come out and go. We did not
get our guys.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Went.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
And now you're seeing the the Jaguars tied a lot,
tashed and gent themselves. Dane Brugler and his mock draft
today connected those two teams. He's plugged in Draftnick. I
wonder if some of it is them also wanting to
leak out that Hey, we're not justin on Gent. We
like these other guys too and would be very happy
with them.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Well, I benefits the Jags to put that out too,
you know. Also you got to move up a spot,
you know, give up a little more. So you know
with that kind of stuff, I don't I hadn't heard
the Jags connected to that. I think they're on Mason Graham.
But we'll see, you know, we'll see how that how
that shakes out. To me, it's just funny a lot
of the stuff that that that tumbles forth from people
in the in the weeks before the draft. The guy
who put the Raiders about uh room or out there
(15:57):
or whatever it was. It's the same guy that insisted
that Uh the Broncos were trading Pats are tan for
UH to move up in the draft last year.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
So you know, I keep a little file on.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
These these huge misses that that people have and I'm like,
what are we doing here?
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Like what you know, Like.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
If I get something wrong, I donate to charity. Why
is nobody else doing that?
Speaker 3 (16:16):
The donate to Patrick, Sir Tannwin is a is or
not sorry? The trade Patrick tertann went is a big whiff.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Yeah, not. I mean that was a thit breaking news.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
You know, the Broncos are putting together a draft package
to trade trading Pat's er Tan, who they then extended,
you know.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
And considering what we know now, even about bo Nicks,
the rumors about wanting to maybe trade up for McCarthy,
even if they were putting that.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
One thing about that they were trying to get up
for Jade Daniels like that, but they never made it
put a trade package together. It was just phone calls
to say, hey, are you willing to move off of two?
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Yeah, but even I mean how they abaited the Vikings
into you know, trading up or whatever. Uh, that wouldn't
even require Patrick's Artan in such a trade package.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
So it just doesn't line up with anything that happened.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Yeah, it's it's like I said, it's always fascinating to
watch these uh, these guys things. I appreciate you jumping
in here to do the six pack in the first segment.
The text line is hilarious six pack in the first segment,
day drinking.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
On BCT It's time.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Yeah, you know what, some days you just you just
come in the office, you know, you know what, I
need a beer just saying that may have been a
real one right now, he would never know.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Magic of radio. We come back, We get to vine Beddedetto.
You know, joyus Tucktle Nuggets. We'll be back.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Text line jumping right out to the kay comstro hot line.
Bring on our guy, viny Bettadetto from the Gazette talk
little Nuggets, Vinie, how you doing, buddy?
Speaker 6 (17:32):
Doing well? Guys, Thanks for having me on.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Oh you know, it's always a pleasure to hear your voice. Denbora.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Nuggets made some major moves with Calvin Booths. Michael Malone.
You got Adelman in there as the interim coach with
the opportunity to win the job, and he sweeps the
remaining games of the regular season, heads in with an
energy into the postseason. What do you think about these
Nuggets three games into the Adalman interim era at least,
and where do you think that they could go?
Speaker 6 (18:02):
Yeah, I mean if Josh Krunky looking for a spark
in citing that as the reason why those moves had
to be made at such kind of an odd time
in the NBA calendar to make those kind of decisions,
I think he got the kind of response he was
looking for in those final three regular season games, and
you know, I think moving forward, you know, the Clippers
(18:22):
certainly won't be an easy test to pass, but I
think this team has has has the tools to get
by this Clipper squad, And really I think matches up
fairly well, you know, certainly better than you know first
round matchup against Minnesota, and yeah, you know, if they
can get past the Clippers, that would obviously set up what
is likely to be a much anticipated matchup between the
(18:44):
two MVP front runners to.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Any bet at Detta. Yeah, as we look at this,
I mean, I think they match up pretty well with
the Clippers.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Clippers lack a lot of size outside of outside of
the center there, they really don't have much.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
I think that matches up down low and this will
be an.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Opportunity to maybe hopefully you get some good minutes out
of Jordan. You know, obviously Jokic, you know, does what
he does. I think they can beat the Clippers. I
don't think it's uh, it's gonna be a close series.
I think he'd do that five or six. But then
you look on you look ahead to that next round,
and that's where it does start to get fastening. It
does start to get interesting, and what would Adalman need
(19:18):
to do to win the job? What what in your mind,
what would he need to do to say I'm the
guy going forward at head coach here for the Denver Nuggets.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
Yeah, you know, when they made these moves with three
games left in the regular season, I saw it, you know,
getting to the conference finals.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
What would get it.
Speaker 6 (19:37):
Done for him? Now seeing the way the bracket breaks out,
I feel like that's a pretty tough ask of a
first year head coach, but it is going to be
really interesting because you know, the Nuggets can't play around
with these next few years of you know, nicolea Jokic
is thirty. Now, these these core guys that you know
we're used to thinking are so young, like time has
(19:59):
continued to move and you know these guys Jamal Michael
Porter Junior, Aaron Gordon are you know, should be entering
their prime or in their prime right now. So these
next two years, like these next two hires GM and
head coach are massive hires for the direction of the franchise.
So I don't know if winning one series is going
(20:19):
to be enough for DA to get the job and
winning two series given the circumstances, feels like it's a
pretty big ask. So I think it's kind of a
real tough audition for David Edelman.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Hey, Vinnie Grant here, and you mentioned Nikola Jokicic and
now thirty years old and not wasting the next couple
of years of his prime. But it seems like he
just keeps getting better and better with age, just like wine.
But what do you make of his historic season being
top ten and top three in multiple categories points per game,
rebounds per game, assists per game, and steals per game,
(20:53):
which was kind of what people talked bad about him
on these past couple of years, as was his defense.
But what do you make of this historic Nikolkic? And
is there any chance that he wins the MVP or
as an SGAs.
Speaker 6 (21:07):
You know, if he had this season anywhere prior in
his career, I think he's the MVP. I think this
is going to come down to one of those things
where it is going to be voter fatigue that that
cost him the MVP. And you know, I think that's
going to be a pretty tough pill for for the
franchise to swallow. And you know, I'm guessing he might
be a little bit bothered by it, more than he
(21:28):
more than he typically would have been. But this season
as a whole to be the third player in NBA
history to average a triple double, to do it while
scoring just under thirty points per game and scoring efficiently
from three different levels, like this is a this is
an all time offensive season, and it is kind of
(21:48):
crazy how he continues to level up. You know, if
we can fast forward to next year, like it's like
the assumption, oh, he'll he'll find one way to get better.
And you know, this year, for much of the year
or all year, it was really a three point shot
where it was like, okay, you can point to that
and say, like that is markedly better than it was
in years past. And it'll be interesting to see, you,
(22:09):
you know, where he can continue to get better because
I agree with you, and I think I think his
game is suited to age quite well. It's just a
matter of how long he wants to do this for him.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
Talking with any Betaedetto from the Gazette, as we as
we look at this thing, you know, we asked, I
already asked you what.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Would Adelman have to do? What does his team have
to do to keep from getting blown up.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
You know, obviously we've seen some reports out there and
then they were debunked by Josh, but you know Porter
Junior allegedly being untouchable, and then you know, Krockey said
that's absolutely not the case. You know, Jamal Murray, how
much longer is he a Denver nugget? What would it
take to keep the core of this team intact?
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Yeah, I think they kind of continue to what we
saw in those final three games under Adalman. You know,
this group, and I don't know if I've said it
here before, but I've set up plenty. Anytime your starting
five consists of you know, three of those guys are
Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Junior, and Nicola Jokic, You're just
not going to have an elite defense or even a
(23:08):
like significantly above average defense. I think, you know, being
ranked tenth to fifteenth in defense is probably all you
can really expect from that kind of lineup. And so
I think one thing that the group, should they want
to stick together, one thing they need to do this
postseason is at least beyond the same page defensively, come
(23:28):
up with some kind of identity that allows you to
be average because one thing you don't have to worry
about with any lineup that features Jamal, Mike and Joker
is offensive production. That group's going to score plenty of
points and do so pretty efficiently. But I think that
they need to show that they can they can take
care of the things they can control defensively.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Talk with Vinnebettedetto from the Gazatt what kind of players
do the Nuggets need in the coming season to get
back to being at certain level of you know, I
said they need at least a para three and D
guys and you know, and probably another point guard, you know,
depending on what you do with Westbrook.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Where do you see this team going this offseason?
Speaker 6 (24:12):
Yeah, I think we can kind of combine the three
and D guy and the point guard, and you know,
I think the thing this team lacks the most is
that true point of attack defender, somebody who can stop
a driver.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
You know.
Speaker 6 (24:23):
Christian Brown has has been good in some of those instances,
but but not quite as consistently. I don't know if
we've seen enough from Peyton Watson to pencil him in
as one of those guys who can uh stay in
front of the quicker, shiftier guard so I would Yeah,
I would expect that that would be the priority this offseason. Obviously,
(24:48):
Russell Westbrook has a player option, so it's you know,
the ball is in his court whether or not he
wants to return or explore other opportunities. But yeah, just
adding another defensive he certainly on at a guard spot,
I think would be the number one priority, followed later
by a backup center.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
Vinny.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
A question I have about some comments Jamal Murray made
earlier today. He said that the Nuggets are always on
people always underestimate them as a team, going back before
their championship and then post championship. Do you think that
is a sentiment that most of the team feels and
do you think that could help them surprise some people
in the playoffs this year?
Speaker 6 (25:31):
Yeah, I think it certainly exists for a lot of
the guys who have been around for a while, just
in terms of you know, everyone says they don't pay
attention to the headlines or whatever, but I think they
all lie about that. You know, I think they're all
pretty aware of what the the talking heads at the
(25:53):
national level are saying. And you know, I do think
Jamal has a you know, I think he's right to
some extent that certain before they won the championship, people
didn't have much belief or give them their due credit.
You kind of look at some of the national TV assignments.
I think you could you could make that case as well,
(26:13):
But I don't know if that's going to be enough
to really like rally the team. I don't know if
that is something that's going to inspire them. I think
it probably more has to come from from within with
this group.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
You've looked at the three games of Attleman as the
interim coach so far, the way these Nuggets have played.
What is the percentage what would you put on it
that the dever Nuggets can make the conference finals or
even the finals.
Speaker 6 (26:40):
I would put it at about a twenty five percent chance.
I can get to the Conference finals, and then we'll
go ten percent on the NBA. I just, you know,
assuming Oklahoma City takes care of their Round one matchup,
that team just has so many different pieces and can
play so many different ways that it feels like it
would be just the heck of a challenge for this
(27:03):
team has currently constructed to make it, uh, you know,
to win two series this postseason.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
So you're telling me there's a chance. Well yeah, all right, Well.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
I was hoping for a little higher number from you there.
I saw a lot of energy there, but I think
you're right. Okay, So you's just got got so many
different ways to beat you if any, we appreciate it
as always, look forward to talking to you.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
A getting down the line. Absolutely any at Adeo from
the Gazette.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
You missed any part of that, you go to Broncos,
Country Tonight, dot Com, slash podcast or wa podcast, Apple,
it Tunes, Spotify, Totally Free, Awesome and redesigned iHeartRadio.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
Were you get to Take You for Granted podcast as well?
In new episode today? Right?
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Well later today after we are off their we are
off air.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Okay, all right, well I can listen to it tomorrow
then on my way in there, you guess we'll see
I look by, go drive home and listen to but
Take It for Granted podcast.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Get some positivity in your life, That's what I'm saying
before I go to bed.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
I gotta have to get that positivityise just you know,
down on myself, down on the Rockies, losing another one
last night.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
A ten and a half games out in then l West.
Speaking of the Rockies. They'll be right here on Kawa.
The cover starts to seven thirty.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Parker Gabriel going to join us next segment, talk a
little bit about the NFL Draft coming.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
Up here on a week away week wait tomorrow. As
a matter of fact, when's your mock come out?
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Either the night before the morning of I'm waiting for
So I've had a problem last couple of years. I
figured out that there were some people that were taking
my mock draft and copying it basically to make themselves
seem like they were getting more correct. And so I
noticed that because I did something the last couple of years.
I'm not going to say exactly what I did, but
I did something that I knew a certain way just
(28:47):
to see if people would do it, and they took
the cheese two years in a row. So this year,
I'm waiting until after the submission deadline for these mock
draft contests, which usually are the midnight the night before,
and then I will publish it publicly after that so
they can't copy on me.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
With all the narratives around the draft and prospects and
you know how it's kind of up in the air
and all the the talent is in the kind of
the middle of the of the draft class. Do you
think this one's harder to do a mock for than
the normal years?
Speaker 1 (29:17):
Oh yeah, And there's.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
No, there's not a lot of consensus out there after
about like I said, player ten or twelve. There's just
not a lot of consensus because players twelve through one
hundred and one hundred and twenty really are roughly have
the have similar same grades. And so when when people
are stating, these boards are all over the place, and
different teams had different guys, and it is a lot
more difficult this year to project. You're having to just
(29:41):
kind of project what you know of the general manager.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
And I'm saying, I'm saying this is teams trying to
project this.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
You have to project what you know of your your
buddies run the league, what they like in terms of archetypes.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
You know what agents are connected with those kinds of things,
because there's.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
Not again the the there's not a consent so on
where these players are. So it's kind of easy to
figure out where the're gonna drop to, where're gonna fall,
which range is.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
It's a lot more difficult this year.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
And I'll tell you whoever it nails the draft this year,
we won't know for a couple of years whoever nails
it in terms of getting players this year.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
They're good at their job. Okay, I like that.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Did you see GM for the Giants Joe Shane's comments
today about their quarterback room. No, he said he doesn't
think it's a necessity that they come out of the
draft with a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Well, I had dinner with some of those guys up
there in Indianapolis, and I would suggest that they may
be saying one thing publicly and saying.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
An entirely different thing privately. Lion season. Yeah, I mean
that's what you say at this point.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
You say that because first of all, you already brought
two guys in Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson. And then
you say that because if you do say you're on
a quarterback, then the guys know if you're on a
trade in front of you.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
What do you think of the idea of them taking
Hunter if he's there with their pick, and then trading
back into the first round, maybe ahead of the Steelers
with the Broncos and taking shador.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
I would say that if I would say that, they
would love that. I would say that would wind up
being a dream scenario for them if they could pull
that off.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
That's probably the best way I can I can phrase that.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
We've talked about that on the show for the better
part of a month and a half, two months that
you know, they'd kind of like to bring both those
guys to New York if they could.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
I don't know. I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
I really just am not sure if Cleveland is all
in on Travis Hunter or if they're making they're doing
some saber rattling to get the Giants to maybe move
up one spot, you know, in an effort to get
a little bit of extra draft capital out of that.
Don't never put it past Cleveland to do something like that,
you know, as far as that goes. Of course, they
(31:45):
get the guy with the economics background, they value the
draft capital and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Andrew Berry there, you know.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
I I I was standing right next to Jimmy Haslam
and Andrew Berry at the Color Pro day, and I
would not say that they and an an ordinate amount
of time on Travis Hunter.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
That's interesting. So like they were obviously paying attention and
he was out there doing stuff. I was standing next.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
To Kevin Stefanski when both Uh. Sean Papon was on
my left, Kevin Stefanski was on my right. I was
literally in between. You can see it on video if
you watch, you can see me there in the jacket,
the gray sweater, UH in between Sean Paige, kevin'spas. They
were watching the throwing session, and I think Kevin Stefanski
liked what he saw out of Travis Hunter in terms
of his fluidity and running those routes. But I again,
I would not say that they sat there just focused
(32:31):
his sweating, like this is our guy and they could
afford to do that. You're picking it too. You already
know the Titans to taking cab of Ward number one.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
You're picking it too. You already know so I you know,
I don't. I don't know. We'll see.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
I think New York would love that particular scenario to happen.
We come back, get a chance to talk with Parker Gabriel,
checking with him, see what he thinks about what the
Broncos could do. I think they're down to just a
couple options. We'll go over those next here in Broncos
Country to night.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
I know I'm better than It's like I'm just praying
for the Lord to deliver me from Pick sixes go
their glue,
