Nick, we get to talk about what we really want
to talk about, the Nuggets and the Aves and they're
big Game one wins.

Yeah, let's start. Her been talking about the Abs and
I don't know, did you just watch the game? I
watched it, okay, So.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
I had to watch it on my phone because I
was out on the date with the wife. Well, I said,
it's playoff time, so I'm pulling up Fubo or watching
the ABS.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
So she allows you to watch while you were on
the date.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
I'll tell you know you married the white woman.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
You usually have the whole kind of hide my phone
under the table.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
See. I used to do that, but then it was like,
well what am I doing? Like she's going to catch
me anyways when I react to something when she's talking
about something else.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
So I just asked her and she said sure.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
So when the waiter comes around, you just give him
your order, tell him bring the bread, and you just
go right back to watching your phone.

Yeah. Well, I try to.

I'm pretty good at dividing my attention, Okay, but yes
I was. I was definitely had one eye on the
Abs the entire time. I was a little nervous at
the beginning, but Man, that second and third period, Yeah, it.

Was amazing out The first period was really touch and
go that that was great hockey. And in that second
period things definitely changed. And big shout out to Mackenzie Blackwood, yeah,
because if it were not for him this, I think
the Stars would have taken this game because they were.

In the ABS zone a lot and.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Blackwood was like McKim bae Mtumbo out there.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
He was.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
He was blocking shots almost like a combination of the
Kim Bae Matumbo and Neo at the same time. He
was blocking shots all over the place. It was like
shots shots, shot, shot, shot, shot, and he was just
setting them out. And if it were not for him
on the defensive end, things could have been a little different.
But man, the one thing I love about watching uh

the Abs play, and I'm not gonna act as though
I'm kind of some hockey savant, but I love the
aggressiveness of which they skated and how they share the puck,
and I just every time they face the team, I
just say a couple of hell Mary's for the posing
goaliecause I'm like, man, you in for a hell of
a day.

And just the speed of Nathan McKennon amaze me. Yes,
I mean, he's just on another level compared to all
these other amazing hockey players that are, you know, making
millions in the pros. He is just a step faster
than everyone else.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
So see, that's the beauty of for me watching hockey
like I watched it on television. But to get a
better appreciation of any hockey game, you actually have to
be there in the arena and it's and it's totally
different than watching it at home. And from one athlete
to another, I have a lot of appreciation for athletes

who play other sports like golfers, you know, thinking about
having to seek an eighteen foot putt for victory, or
the fact that you are shooting this puck, a small
little puck past three guys and you go on top
shelf on the goalie. I mean, that is freaking amazing.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Going back to Blackwood, like seeing through all the bodies
and being right able to react and that split second
to get that stop. I mean he was, he was
standing on his head. Twenty three saves on twenty four
shot attempts. It was just an impressive all round win.

That's what the kids now call standing on business had
and on business standing.

bar okay and placed a little parlay and happened to

What was any of that on the ABS game at all?

No, it was all baseball.

And while you were at the said bar, they didn't
have the ABS game on TV.

Well, I left right before that started. At that point,
I've been there for the whole Nuggets game already, so I.

So you had you have done your daily duty.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Well, yeah, and you know, I think you everybody who
knows me knows I don't know jack about hockey.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
So but you know, you know, I'm not a hockey savant,
but I can appreciate just the competition the way that
the guys skate, because I mean I could skate on
roller skates a one blade skater.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
I can't ice skate. I can't that once I fell
flat on my bot.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yes, but that's why I have the appreciation for the
guys being able to give you a little of a
Steph Curry type of crossover with the stake and the
puck in their hand. But they're doing it on one
blade and on ice. That's amazing.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Yeah, I'm not saying that it's not incredible in the
same way that I'm not saying that highlight is not incredible. Uh,
But at the same time, highlight I like. But I
don't know jack about it.

Well, I'll tell you what. Obviously, I'm African American. Had
I lived up north, I probably would have played hockey,
but since I lived down South, it was football and
basketball the same thing.

I was in the South, I didn't have high You
asked where the hockey rink was I'm like back the
way you came. You know, like we didn't have hockey.

Yes, so amazing. Big week in Colorado sports. We can't
talk to ABS without talking about the Nuggets. And that
game was I don't know about you guys, but that
game seemed like a game seven to me.

Oh yeah, it has some intensity to it.

You did. And then watching.

Russ Westbrook go up at that on that leg and
then pull the the Houston Florida you know, I gotta
let it go. And I'm sitting there thinking, oh, man,
did Adam and really not draw something up out of
the time out there? Like that's what we came away with.
I like that, that's what you came away with.

A game like Nuggets winning overtime, Russell Westbrook score seven
points in a row to get the Nuggets two overtime
hits a corner here, my gods, you think.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
I was giving that wet blanket up for free.

I absolutely celebrated the win. I celebrated to win in
more ways than one.

Celebrated to win because you hit your parlay well, but
they weren't even in my parlay. It was a separate

I just cared a lot less because the other one
was a little yeah no.

Going into this series, I though everyone was thinking about
what was all them I'm gonna do with Jalen Pickett
or Russell Westbrook and watching the game. Russ can be
sporadic at time, you know, passing and driving to the
basket and not finishing. But I tell you, man, that
was vintage Russell Westbrook, you know, grabbing the boards. That's

the one thing that you know, He's great at it
and probably one of the reasons that Nikole Jokis wanted
him to be a part of the team because you know,
as a guy who is not a sinner, he's not
a power for it, but he can grab rebounds. Just
think about the fact that how many games we saw
this year that Russell kind of gave away because of

a turnovers miss bucket, but the Nuggets won that game.
In my opinion, you guys can say what you want
because of Russell's intensity to go and grab those rebounds.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
I think there was him Christian Brown and his hustle
and intensity in that one. Possibly they were both. God
called him the Brownie man because he was cleaning up
just the paper towel that right, Yes, it was, Yeah,
both those guys were out their house. Look, there was
a point there where Russ was scored a couple buckets
where I was like, yeah, we can't call it Westbrook
anymore or Westbrook anymore. Brother, He's out there making shots.

I was like, is that on the Is that on
the inexperience of the coach to not have a second
option there?

defense credit because they were going to defend the pick

in their hands, reading the scout of report as though
they should. It was like, we're gonna free up Russell
right because it's a make a miss league and he's

gonna make it or a miss it Like that corner
three that he made. They left him in the corner.
It was like, we're gonna live and die with that.
If he knocks it down, fine, But he was able
to knock down that shot. Now the question is, well,
can he he and the Nuggets be more consistent in
game two as they were in Game one knocking down
those open three point shots.

And the other part is where does Porter Junior fit
into the rotation here, because he clearly was not a
part of their in game strategy, only fit in well,

quarterback position. Is going to be Julian Lewis or is
going to be a Cayden Salter. And you know, after

the game, Coach Prime kind of made that known that
he wished that there was there were more people out there,
because it wasn't just about the game itself. It was
just about the chador and Travis being put into I
guess the that jerseys and numbers were being retired. So
I don't know if the lack of crowd support was
backlash for certain people being a little upset, but what

I can tell you perusing the sidelines before the game,
there were some individuals who were definitely upset, and some
of the individuals, you know, they were not players, but
individuals in the media who were upset as far as
that this was taking place in the timing. And one

thing I told him, I said, well, why is it
that anyone has to live by yesterday's rules and time constraints.
If you want to do something in life, no matter
what it is, why do you have to wait to
get it done? Well, put us down timestep on it.

Well, and I heard coach say something similar to that,
and I agree with that sentiment. But I follow up question,
my follow up question that all right, then, wise, Cordell
Stewart not up.

You guys control this, make it happen. Put his name
up there.

But once again, that's not prime. That's everyone else who

the same sentence, again, it'll be too soon.

They probably won't. But when you're in a position to
make decisions. It's on you to make the right decisions.
How many times and we could look at coaching, we
can look at broadcast business, we can look at almost
any business. How many times that we've seen individuals who
are in the position of make bad choices as far
as personnel.

But yeah, it was great to see those guys. And
I'll say this, there's some talent on that roster. But
coach Prime knows this, he's gonna have to jump in
the portal to show up a couple of those positions.

That know, running back is definitely one of those positions.
They could use another wide receiver. But but I'll say this,
your guy Pat Shermer, that's not what you call him.
He decided to use his tight end.

Yes, Yes, they ran a little play pass and they
had some tight ends running into the flat, dump down
check down to those tight ends. In the spring game,
I think there were more passes to the tight end
in the spring game then I'm probably saw in the
four game samples up.

You got a young quarterback though that's a spinky Young
quarterbacks love the tight end. You know, that's your safety outlet,
that's your safety valve. So I get that, Juju Di,
you look pretty good aut there. I mean, the numbers
were ie popping, but.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Well, okay, so the numbers what the numbers are, And
I'll say this, let me explain it that there were
some real different rules as far as the spring game concerned,
because usually you think it's offense defense the typical six points,
but they had some of the greatest scale based on
how the team was performing. Obviously, a touchdown was six points,
I field goal was three points, and the point after

one point. But for plays over eight yards there's a
point system. Over twenty yards the point system, so they
they kind of made every single aspect of the spring
game a point system so they can properly evaluate players.
But Juju had his moments where he looked he looked
good and you could say, well, there's some skills there,

(14:56):
but also you could tell he looked like a baby
giraffe that time, right, and you have to be sure
he should. But for me, I like to focus on
the good things and the good qualities about the player.
So I think if he continues to work, learns the system,
they bring in some more weapons, he's gonna be a
good player. And here's the other thing. For a CU

they now have two quarterbacks, one a one bait, one
b flip of the way you want to. But just
in case one gets injured, they have another guy who
they strongly believe in that can come in and step in.
So it was a good showing, and that's the way
I will look at it was a showing because there
wasn't full speed tackling, so it was about execution for

the guys. But it was something pleasant to see. There's
still some more work they need to put in, but
this is gonna be a really interesting season after Shador
and Travis, and you'll get a chance to see how
well Pat Shermer is as an OC without those two guys.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Yeah, that's and that's really what we're I think looking
forward to seeing. You know this coming season, is what
this thing looks like without your door and Travis Hunter
and you know, and where the Colorado football program is
going from here? If that was if that was the program,
or if prime is the program. And you know at
the spring game returns, the early returns seem to be
pretty good about the quarterback.

Well, well yeah, I mean you got to be happy
because when you think about Cadence Saltons, who is a
you know in his fifth year, he does a great job.
Well he did a great job. It plays outside the pocket,
and when you think about next level play being playing
in the NFL, it is not just can you make
the plays when a guy is ten yards in front

of you? Can you make those plays on the perimeter
while you're moving? Those are some of the most difficult
throws to make because now you're not able to set
your feet and that's all on action. If you can
get your your hips into it and get your show
to square, that's kind of an accurate pass. But he
was doing a great job with that. So I see

this upcoming season a lot of the r p O
s and this year's system of post and what we
saw last year. We should do it because these both
of these quarterbacks, Juju and Kane Salta, they're both athletic that.

They are and that's uh again, we're all looking forward
to seeing what you looks like at that I want
to get into this some NFL draft stuff. We had
a en rapport on you, and you know, I've been
going back and forth all day. Uh. We we chat
on occasion and uh, you know we've been going back
and forth all day and stuff. So I came on
kwait Sports earlier today kind of dropped a little bit
of a bombshell and then got on on the NFLFL

Insiders program. We got some audio of that as well.

I want to go over some of these some of
these nuggets I picked up over the weekend in terms
of the draft, things that that I think that are
that it could happen. It could be trending that way.

the Broncos have been making calls about potentially moving up.
One good thing about Sean Payton is he's done it before. Though.
When rumors circulate, everyone knows, like, all right, like this

is possible, Like at least it's not nonsense. It's something
that could absolutely be real. Right, I'd be surprised if
it as a running back. I wouldn't be surprised if
those for a receiver, and I know that they've sort
of said like they're happy with the receivers and all that.
I just sort of wonder like, is there a receiver
they like enough where they say, like it's not a

great receiver group, it's okay, not a great receiver group.
Do they have to trade up for one to get
the kind of quality they want?

Maybe would sort of fly against the conventional wisdom and
what they've said. But I think back to last year
kind of like knowing what they said and then what
they did. They're sort of like two opposite things.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they spiced it up
a little bit in the first.

you and I have been chatting most of the day
and he's he's got it in his head that the
Broncos are looking at Matt Golden the speeds through out
of Texas to move up and and that kind of stuff.
I vehemently disagreed based on what I've been told and
I so we've been we've been going back and forth

you know, this is not like an actual real life feud,
but we're sort of hamming it up to the bid
on it. What do you think I can't picture us
anario where they're trading up to go get a receiver,
especially after what they told us in February where where
they said they're not going to be in on these

free agent receivers at the top, They're not going to
be early in the draft going up and try and
do this. They kept their word on free agency. Were
they missedirecting on the draft?

Well, what I would like to see is you and
I and hashed this out with a pair of boxing gloves.

based on certain things that he was saying putting out there,

he can get both nicks. So you could try to
magically read between the lines or read the tea leaves,
you're not really going to know. And here's what I
know about this game. Sometimes teams want certain players. This
is why they put their draft board together and someone
another team selects their player. But the player they select

wherever they select, it's always we got our guy. This
is why nobody ever doesn't get there.

Right exactly, which which luckily for him, bad from Broncos,
luckily for Jervy. But we see this all the time.
That's why on draft night they're gonna have webcams and
every team's you know, war room, and everyone's gonna high
five regardless of whether they got their players. Sometimes they're

not getting their player because if their number one choice
was taking off the board, so you have to show
face and high five, like, hey, we got our guy.
In some cases, don't get me wrong, some teams will
get their guy. But for the part, even if they didn't,
they're gonna tell you we got our guy.

And that's I mean, and that's so true. And there's
never been a truer statement probably than that in terms
of every team claims they got their guy. When I
when I saw this, when I first heard Ian talking
about this earlier today, and that was the same thing
I messaged him when we were you know, we're uh
in the in the group chat and I'm like, dude,
this feels like the biggest smoke screen of all time.
To me, this feels like the Broncos are leaking out

that they want receiver, so the teams will jump in
front of them to go get receivers to push their
guy down to them.

This is these are the games that you played. And
once again, it's.

Like last year when they stand there were gonna trade
the farm for j J McCart.

Yes, no, interesting, I don't know. Grant probably doesn't have
the audio from lashes from I mean last week excuse
me press conference. But if you paid its close attention,
if you close your eyes and you paid attention to
what George Peyton and Sean Payton were saying, there's ways
to manipulate the draft, Like there's a lot of new
coaches and a lot of new gms that are going

to be drafted for the first time, and some of
those guys can get manipulated no matter how much experience
that they have, because this is the first time they've
been in this driver's seat. So you can manipulate the
draft by leaking information out through your media sources. Here's
what we're thinking about doing, here's what we're thinking about,

what we're not going to do, or even verbally saying
it to yourself, and they come draft night, maybe you
do the entire opposite, because now if you do listen,
if the Broncos say, well, you know, this is a
decent draft class and at running back, and we can
pretty much wait just talk about Ian mentioning, the Broncos
moving up or whatever. What if they just stay pat

where they are at twenty and pick a player they
haven't even talked about at a position they haven't even
brought up.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
It's entirely possible. We've talked about the D line thing.
They haven't talked about dline. We've talked about it, we
talked about it. They haven't talked about D line though,
And that's I would say that that's also very possible.
In there question here, I think to me, and I've
said this, I think since February, listeners to this show
should though. I am pretty convinced that based on conversations
I've had that if Marian Hampton is there at twenty,

that's probably the pick. I'm not sure he's going to
be there. The other options that we've talked about on this,
you know, I've floated the trade back, which I know
you're a big fan of huge fan of it. And
then the possibility of the defensive lineman, whether that's you know, Nolan,
if he's there, Grant Harmon, although the injury concerns that
I may take him out of the equation. So you

know there are to me, there are three scenarios here,
and I think that's that's kind of what that feels
like for the Broncos. A lot of this is dependent
on what happens ahead of them. And if you can't
and don't want to move up, then then how do
you try to influence the nineteen picks in front of you.

going to take that explosion off the field. Mims have
shown that from year one to where he is now
that he was more than just a special team's return
or type of guy. That he has gain breaking speed.
Now he's not tight, we kill, but he can stretch
you vertically.

Right, And if we were I mean, look, if we
didn't have Mims and we were just talking about Troy Franklin,
I'd be all over drafting on Matt Golden right, because
Troy Franklin like to be Franklin here was not was
a bit of a disappointment.

to upgrade.

Right, But you're not upgrading your backup Z in the
first round. You're not trading up in the first round
to upgrade your backup Z receiver.

wide receivers, and I don't belie this will happened, but
I'll understain the conversation. But if you're willing to move
up to select a wide receiver, that said something about
that particular wide receivers. But it also says a lot
about the guys in your room that you don't have
a lot of faith in the guys in your room.

And I would go contrary to what we've been told
what they're saying. Yes, but then you've been in relationships before.

looking in the f C West, if there's a draft analyst,
there's a scout. There are fans who are just solely
looking and oh, we just got to have to beat
the teams in the a f C West and we
find I'm here to tell you you're sadly mistaken.

Okay, I don't Well, I'll put you this way. I
don't believe the Broncos are trading up in the first round,
and I certainly don't. I don't believe that I and
I don't believe they're taking a receiver in the first round.

As far as what they said in the presser, I
believe it was generally true. There may have been some
obfuscation there to kind of cover draft plans, but they've
been it's the same consistent message they've given. They were
giving us privately back at the Combine in February when
they were saying, we actually are pretty happy with the
wide receiver room. We're gonna add a body, but it'll
be later in the draft.
