Speaker 1 (00:00):
Broadcos Country tonight. It's been all right here with you.
Short show tonight as the Colorado Rocky.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
He is going to take on the San Francisco Giants
there in San Francisco. The covers will start here at
seven o'clock on ko AU. So we got a very
very short show tonight. One thing we are going to
do bottom of the hour. We got a pair of Caedar
tickets to give away. So if you guys want to
go see Cither, I believe it's on Monday May fifth
at Ford Amphitheater. Stick around and I'll give you the

(00:26):
number to call in bottom of the hour and you
can win a pair of tickets to go see see
the We're gonna start this one off with an NFL six.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Pac It's time for the NFL six pad.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
I'm gonna trade a last beer, insight and insight information
you can't find anywhere else. No.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Six the top six NFL headlines.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
What wide receiver A Mari Cooper is one of the
most appealing free agent names still left available after a
disappointing stint at the end of last season following the
trade deadline in Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Now with the draft behind us.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Is teams look to finish filling out their rosters and
had some of these appealing free agents that are still
out there. Which teams do you think will target AMRII
Cooper and which teams do you think should target.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Out The team that I know that is interested is
a reunion with Dallas, putting him opposite CD.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
And put him out there.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Obviously he's a much diminished player from what he was
in his prime. But that is the team that I've
heard is has the most interest in Amari Cooper. We'll
see if anybody else steps up to the plate and
you know, sort of gets involved there. But Seahawks maybe
they're still looking for receivers.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
You know, he's obviously not going to be back in Buffalo.
That wide receiver room's pretty crowded and not coming here
to my knowledge. But I know there were people speculating
about that, and I have not heard a peep about
that here. Like I said, from the outset, they love
the young wide receiver corps they have here. They were
never in on these these debo Cooper cop nonsense. So

(01:57):
I would be surprised if the Broncos made a move there.
I would be willing to bet it's Dallas, but Seattle
could get involved.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
Yeah, I think Dallas would make a ton of sense.
You know a lot of people thought they were going
to take Matthew Golden in the draft. They really need
that complimentary wet and too ceedee lamb that can line
up outside, and I think, you know, Amari Cooper would
definitely help fill that void for that offense.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
It would be a good signing in my opinion.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
The Steelers, though, I think, could be maybe another team
George Pickens. I've heard mention of him on the trade
block if he gets moved. That receiver corps is really
shallow outside those top two guys.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
I wonder if that could be a way to round
it out.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
I think they want to go into the season with
both those guys. I think Pintons is probably a mid
season trade if he gets dealt. I think they want
to go into the season and see if it can
co exist and see if it can work. Mike Tomlin,
whatever you think of him, has certainly done a great
job of keeping Diva receivers in line until he just can't.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Use him anymore and then moving all you go back.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
And look at the Diva receivers they've had over the
years of what else they've done after they've left. He
does a pretty good job keeping that in line. So
I'm interested to see if he can make those two
works together.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Do you think that relationship is still in a good
place after they add DK Metcalf who, as you know,
I guess some skill or stylistic redundancies with George Pickens.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Do you think maybe upsets Pickens any No, I think
Pickens just upset we doesn't get the ball. I think
picktstick He's of whatever you think of Pickens. I think
Pickens thinks he's the greatest playmaker on planet Earth. And
you know he wants the ball very often throwing in
his general direction. As long as you're doing that, he'd
be happy you don't. He gets Mercurial two.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Another Marturial star out there on the trade block. Miami
Dolphins weren't able to trade Jalen Ramsey during the draft,
but now once again, as the dust settles, they turn
their eyes again towards the trade market scene. If they
can get something done in terms of moving Jalen Ramsey
before the start of the twenty twenty five season. Which
teams do you think are in the hunt for Jalen Ramsey,

(03:53):
and where do you think he ultimately winds up this year?

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Well, I guess another reunion.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
I think he hit it back to La I think
the Rams are ultimately going to make the move there,
and then the Dolphins will sign a Sante Samuel Junior
to replace him.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
We'll see.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I'm not I'm not a hundred on that, but that
that was kind of from the last time I talked
to somebody down there in Miami. That was sort of
their their plan if they could make that work. They
did not uh get uh Jade Barron in the draft,
which was initially kind of their thing, but they surprised

(04:27):
everybody taking ket grant I hit and getting the beef
up front, and that's what allowed the Broncos to lend
Jaddi Barron.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, it seems like that was a.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Pick the Broncos, We're very happy with. The Rams would
make a lot of sense. They've got Darius Williams, but
outside of that, it's really shallow with a Kello Witherspoon
and Kobe Durant Darien Kendrick. So getting someone where the
only cornerback you feel confident relying on, isn't you know
the five foot nine guy would probably be good for them.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Probably, And the other part of that is, you know,
Ramsey's not the same player he used to be, But
that defense is that that yell, hungry front seven they've
got in LA sort of makes him a little bit
more valuable because they can get that pressure and he
can kind of do his thing. And so I just
think you're going to see that. I think you go
to see him re up there in LA three.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
This week, Matt Lafleur downplayed the idea of him and
Ben Johnson having a rivalry, saying, I don't know Ben Johnson.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
I respect him as a football coach.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
He did a nice job when asked if Ben Johnson's
comments about how much he enjoys beating Matt Lafleur rough
with any feathers, do you think the NFC North where
the AFC West, has the better collection of head coaching rivalries.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Well, but first of all, he absolutely hates him. That's
the that's the quote that he gave. I mean, come on, man, well.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
I don't know who he is. You've been on the
opposite sideline. You know exactly who he is.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Like, what are you doing? Like this is snow? That's
a that's a ridiculous quote. Maybe maybe he doesn't know
him personally, I guess, but most.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Of it, see, since Kyle Shannon doesn't mean just because.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
You don't know him personally, he doesn't mean you don't
have a rivalry, you know, as far as that kind
of stuff goes.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I don't know what are the rivalries up in the
in the North.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Media Dan Campbell, but I mean does he have a
rivalry with anybody there?

Speaker 4 (06:07):
And maybe Ben Johnson for leaving, but that's you know.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah, I mean those teams are rivals and stuff like that.
The Shanahan Try, Yeah, THEFC West, I mean the AFC
West has the big rivalry and that is uh Harvon Carroll, Carroll, Yeah, Harbor,
Jim harborum Pee Carroll. You know where the twist new
newest comers to the division. It's probably the most accomplished division.

(06:33):
I mean between national Championships and Super Bowls, everybody in
the division has won so.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
At least one. Yeah, I don't know. I'm trying to
think what the coaching rivalry. That's a good question.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Maybe Peyton Jim harbought some stuff because of the whole
Look who was coveted more by the NFL.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
No, I mean that's not that's not you know.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
I mean, Harbonugh and Peyton had some some running and
I think back in the day when they when Harball
was with the Niners, I think there was a thing
where he wouldn't shake his hand or something I don't remember,
you know, one of those kind of one of those
kind of moments back then.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
So maybe there's a.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Little bad blood there, but I think the main the
main one is Pete Carroll and Jim Harball, and you
hope that the other rivalries sort of grow grow into
that as you hope the Broncos win and create other rivalries.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
You're right, they had the handshake thing that was and Harbor. Yeah,
so there you go.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
I have a follow up question, yes, sir, and on
Matt with the floor, do you think he's on the
hot seat this year in Green Bay if they don't
make it to the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
I mean, if it's bad, yeah, you know, but I
mean he got there.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
He got the most out of Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
I think it's it's the investment in Jordan Love that
it's really sort of not born fruit. And then they
they just have not put that defense together like the
offense is you know, is hodgepodge and piecemeal stuff. They
just never put that defense together the way and needs
to in a division that's got some some decent defense.
I mean, the Bears defense is good. Everyone knows about
the Vikings defense. The Lions were playing above their heads,

(08:05):
you know, as far as that kind of stuff goes,
So you got to figure that out.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
Or Giants GF Joe Shane said that sitting behind veteran
quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jamis Winston this upcoming season will
be beneficial to Jackson Dart's long term development. Do you
believe now this is kind of an old trope we
see from gms around the league around this time of year,
do you agree that this will help Jackson Darts development

(08:30):
if they're able to keep them on the bench all season?
And how many games do you think we see each
quarterback start in that Giants quarterback.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
That'll be interesting. I don't have a game count just yet,
but we'll call it.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
What nine four and four give or take with with
who being the nine russ makes sense. The thing about
there's two schools of thoughts when it comes to quarterbacks.
The one school of thought is you get them wraps
some and that's that. We saw that with Sean Payton
and Boenix was out there and he was floundering in
the first quarter of the season till he finally started
putting it together to slow down for him. There's another

(09:06):
thought that you just sit there, You sit them for
a year and let that come to you. And you
can go back and look at guys like Phil Rivers,
Carson Palmer, pa Ma Holmes who have sat for an
extended period of time and then coming and been I
think a little more prepared. Drake may got didn't sit
the whole year, so that half the year a little
bit more prepared. As you you know, you get the
practice reps as long as they're getting practice reps, okay,

(09:27):
But if you're just if you're just sticking a guy
third on the depth charge, you get him third guy reps.
I mean he's given like five six reps of practice.
That's not that's not worth it. So you've got to
be actively trying to develop that guy in practice. In
order to do that, we're gonna sit him and get
him ready.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
Yeah, talking about Matt Lafleur and Jordan Love, I think
that's an interesting test case because they sit Jordan Love
for a long time. Obviously that pick has I mean
seemingly panned out. Maybe he's not living up to the contract,
but looks like I saw a first round selection at least.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Yet, you know, are you.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
He really only developed once he started playing down the
stretch of.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
That first season starting.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
So what was it that enabled his develop It was
it the playing time and him learning from a few,
you know, from his mistakes, or was it him getting
that time.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
To slow play things.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah, there's no substitute for live fire reps, but you know,
getting in practice and starting to see things and it's
starting to slow down for you, certain is a big boost.

Speaker 5 (10:21):
Do you think Jackson Dart is ready to play Week one? Like,
do you think he's got the mindset? He played in
a pro style offense under Laying Keff and that ole miss.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
I think he's a little more pro.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Ready than some of these other guys in terms of, Yeah,
he understands that you got to spit the verbage outy
understand some of.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Those kinds of things he played in the SEC.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
But at the same time, I would not be hinging
my season and my job because let's face it, if
the Giants don't make the playoff, it is their job
on Jackson Dart being ready.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
Week one, Yeah, I think it benefits the staff to
wait a second. It gives you kind of multiple ways
to save your job. If for russ and or Jamis
is on a hot streak, maybe you win enough games
to save your job. If not, maybe you can show
some promising development with Jackson Dart that they don't want
to blow up the quarterback head coach relationship.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
That's the idea there is. That's why you draft a
guy like that is to try to, you know, stave
off if you're not as successful as quickly.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
As you want to be. Five.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
In an effort to build chemistry with his newest weapon,
Baker Mayfield took a Mecca Agbuka and his family out
to dinner upon their arrival in Tampa Bay. What do
you think are realistic expectations for Agbuka in year one,
considering he's playing in a loaded receiver room with not
only Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, but promising twenty twenty
four Ricky Jaalen McMillan as well.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Yeah, on paper, you would say, you know, four hundred
yards something like that.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Because of the room still loaded.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
But both those receivers have had problems with injuries, Mike
Evans and Chris Godwin and figure to you know, to
probably miss chunks of time this season as well, so
you know, he'll probably get an opportunity to get around
six hundred yards. That get kind of thing keep in mind,
you got to do We'll see there, you know, and
how well he drives with Acer Mayfield and.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
All that, what all?

Speaker 2 (12:02):
What all changes with the offense that you go through
with those kinds of things, It's going to be an
explosive offense. I mean, it's just by the nature I
have in Baker Mayfield there, it's gonna but you really
don't know because you just don't know what he's going
to do in.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Terms of what kind of playtime he's going to get
behind those guys.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
I would say, I don't know what the over under
for him is for the season right now, but I
would I would bet the over five hundred yards for
him simply because I feel like that there's going to
be injuries and he's going to get time to shine.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
Yeah, looking at Jackson Smith and Jigga another kind of
mid first round Ohio State slot, receiver that a book
has been compared to a lot also landed with a
team that had two much more established receivers with Metcalfain Lockett.
There finished the season with about sixty receptions, six hundred
yards and four touchdowns. I feel like that would be
a successful first year for Igbuka if he's able to

(12:51):
pull off any you know, comparable amount of production.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Yeah, I agree, and you know, I want to do
one thing real quick. Though.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
There were some rumors out there with the Broncos and
oh they would have taken a Buka if the Bucks
had that is absolute patent and falls He was not
the target.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
It was when Baron fell in their lap. It was Barren.
It was going they had a trade agree to with
the New York.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Giants, and they were going backwards and it was going
to be Traggon Henderson and Mason Taylor.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
That was the plan.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Baron, a guy they had graded as a top ten
player in this class, fell on their lap.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
They ultimately opted to take that instead.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Yeah, I'm listening to their comments that. I mean, they
laid it out for you. There were seven slots. I
believe they even said I forget for the six or seven.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
But laid out.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
There were this many slots where he was our number
one guy that lines up with the Dolphins pick where
he was expected to go, surprisingly didn't go. So I
think a lot of times it's safe to not believe
teams when they tried out the VPA line or whatever
it may be. This is a case where I think
their actions very clearly align with their words.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
So I did. And that was one of those things.
I mean, they were honest this whole offseason. You know,
we got some things to address. We love our receiving cores.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
We do want to get some of these other things,
and they did and they include the slot corner.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Positions one of them.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
Six last one before you here talking about some odds
not to Mecca Bucas. Though post draft Super Bowl odds
have been released. Today, the Eagles and Chiefs are plus
six hundred as co favorites, while the Ravens at plus
six fifty, the Bills at plus seven hundred, and the
Lions at plus nine hundred close out that top five.

(14:19):
There's then a drop to the forty nine Ers at
plus thirteen hundred, the Commanders and Bengals at plus sixteen hundred. Today,
the Rams at plus and the Rams and Packers at
plus two.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Thousand to round out the top ten.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
Does anything stand out to you as surprising in those
early odds.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
I'm trying to look at the whole list here, because
I've got it in front of me. There are let's see,
I don't I don't think you're going to see Kansas
City repeat as far as getting back there. And I
picked the Chiefs and Eagles last year to the super
Bowl in the preseason. I don't think you want to
see the Chiefs repeat back there.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
I think Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
So you get at odds at plus seven fifty, I
think that's that's better. The surprise to me is the
Commanders at plus nineteen hundred. Are they expecting a huge
sophomore slump here? Because those guys got the NFC Championship
game and that offense was on fire and they've added
to the offense and added to the defense there. So
that one kind of makes me raise a little bit
of an eyebrow. The fact that the Vikings and the
Niners are at plus twenty three hundred and twenty six hundred,

(15:20):
that surprises me a little bit of Note the Broncos
are picked to finish third in the AFC West plus
thirty three hundred. Only the Raiders have worse are considered
worse plus ten thousand. The Chargers were picked ahead of
the Broncos. Chargers of plus twenty seven hundred Broncos plus

(15:40):
thirty three hunds. And that was something I kind of
raised an eyebrow on too, is that the sport the
books tend to think the Chargers are going to finish second.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
The division also.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Seems like the Broncos are a bit of a dividing
line between the real contenders and the not so real contenders.
They're kind of in that bunch there with the Bears
and Bucks. Ahead of them, you have the Vikings, Texans,
you know, Rams, Packers, Chargers teams. They maybe have a
little more credit at least from national media in terms
of being a high end competitor. Yeah, and then the
team's behind the Broncos. You've got the Cowboys, the Dolphins,

(16:09):
the Cardinals. Maybe that Yeah, there's a level of team.
There's a couple here that surprise.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Steelers, Cardinals and Cowboys being as low as they are,
Like I might sprinkle a few of those, just just
throw a few, just throw a few bones that way,
just because that that looks like something that could you know,
they could pad out Dallas at plus fifty five hundred
is disrespectful to Dallas.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
I mean, I think that Dallas team is gonna be
a lot better than people think they are.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
And you have to imagine the Steelers, like Rogers is
a headache, but down the stretch last year he looks
like a solid quarterback I think, definitely better than what
they were getting from Russell Wilson or Justin Fields.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
I think part of that is because Aaron Rodgers is
not signed with them yet, so you're looking at you
You're you're trying to build in the possibility, but at
the same time, you know like he hasn't, so all the.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
More reason to maybe take advantage of that number while
it's low now, because it seems and again Rogers is
so mercurial, you don't know until it's done, you know,
signed on the dotted line, but it seems like all
signs point to that happening here pretty soon.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
I imagine he's just dragging it, dragging it out, so.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
He's not even on the roster for voluntary team works,
so they can't.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Hold that over for missing him. If you're not on
the Ross.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
I really think that's what the game plan is with
him now, dragging it out so long. But yeah, I
would just take advantage of that Steelers number right now.
They're much better than the Cardinals, Dolphins, or Cowboys in
my opinion.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Interesting to me that the team with the worst odds
is the Justin Fields helmed New York Jets.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
The source I have here has the Russell Wilson helmed
New York Giants and plus twenty thousand tied with.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
The Titans as the least likely.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
Oh one I have here is the Saints and the
Jets a plus twenty three thousand.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
So are you guys shocked that?

Speaker 5 (17:42):
I mean, I'm all for it with the Bengals that
they think they're a top eight super Bowl contender, but
I don't.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
I don't see that happening this year. I mean, do
you guys?

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Well, I think it's a proposed that the letter D
does not appear in Cincinnati or.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Bengals because there's no deed to happen on the field.
They're either. I kind of buy it.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
I think defense now it's been rough, but I think
there's reason to believe it can maybe turn around with
a new defensive coordinator that's going to simplify things for
the young guys, and defense is often kind of fairly
hard to predict. The Broncos going into last season were
viewed as a bottom ten defense.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
They end up being a top five defense.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
I don't think the Bengals would be that good, but
with how explosive their offense is, all they have to
do is be middle of the pack, like semi respectable
on defense, and I think they have a not much
worse chance than the Bills, Ravens or Chiefs. I think
they're just outside that elite level of contender in the AFC.
If they get a couple of good bounces on defense.

Speaker 5 (18:36):
I will not be betting your Bengals, grant, I will
not either, but I'll be happily surprised if what Zach
Seeger says comes to fruition.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
Yeah. Fair enough, fair enough.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Yeah, there's a couple on here. The Vikings that, like
I said, at twenty six hundred, seems surprising to me.
You know, the Broncos being third in the divisional surprising.
I mean that far third, Like it wasn't really that close.
There's a plus six hundred difference there, which is the
difference in Philadelphia's odds, which that's those are pretty big.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
That's a pretty big number. Bears seem high to me,
at P.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
Five hundred, it seems, especially because this is their thing.
They win the offseason seemingly every year. They've been on
a bit of a run now and then the season
starts and they kind of disappoint. I like Ben Johnson
a lot, but he's been unproven higher to say the least.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Yeah, and that's gonna be It's gonna be interesting to
see they The Bears have something though that intrigues me.
The fact they've got a pre built defense that's you know,
that's pretty good. The question really isn't is how Dennis
Allen does with that. He's a decent defensive coordinator, and
they've got a pretty good you know, they got a
pretty good roster the defensive side of the ball. So
it remains to be seeing how Ben Johnson and our

(19:42):
former tight ends coach Declan Doyle will do uh motivating
that offense, Zach, I appreciate you jumping in here for
the NFL six pack.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Guys. Stick around.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
We've got see their tickets to give away after the break,
So come on back for that Broukos Country to night
back into this.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Benjamin, all right.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Here with you, I take you all the way up
to the top of the hour and Colorado Rockies Baseball
against the San Francisco Giants covered starting here a top
of the hour seven o'clock. Kyle Freeland, as Kathy Walker mentioned,
ring the news break with his start will make him
the longest tenured or at least the most start tenured
I should say, Colorado Rockies pitcher in franchise history.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
So there'll be that going tonight.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
I probish you guys, paraceed the tickets that we're giving
those away right now. You can win a pair of
tickets to see there this Monday, May fifth at Ford Amphitheater,
be colored for threeo three seven one three eighty five
eighty five at three three seven one three eighty five
eighty five color four pair of tickets to see that
this Monday, May fifth at Ford Amphitheater. With that, let's
go out to the Kay Commis Broth Hotline and bring
on our guy Parker. Gabriel Parker, how you doing, Oh,

(20:49):
you know, doing pretty well.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
Sorry about the Sorry about.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
My Twitter people going after you the other day on
Twitter guys, guys, it's it's possible that two people can
get the same information at roughly the same time.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
I was like, I was like, I meant to, I'm
meant to like tweet back at a couple of those people,
and I was like taking my kid to the pediatrician,
and I was like, I'll get to this later.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
And then, of.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
Course, as what happens when you have a three month old,
I just never did. Well.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
I wish that I I don't have the three month old.
I just wish that I paid less attention to social media.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
But unfortunately that's the other option. But that never seems
to be the way it goes.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Yeah, I just never it never works out that way. Interesting.
It is the first chance, you know, I've really had
to chat it up since.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Since the draft concluded, and we saw each other on
the way outdoor, I think, uh, what do you What
are your overall takeaways from this draft class that seems
to have the fan base pretty split.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
Yeah, it's the reaction is interesting. You know. The thing
that I keep coming back to is like I actually
think that for the most part, like everyone like kind
of there's there's sutterfuge and no one shows their hand
entirely and all of that. But like I thought that
as a general takeaway, I thought that that Sean Payton
and George Peyton essentially operated largely in the manner that

(21:59):
they they just said they were going to all spring
like basically from the way the time the season ended,
they said, we know we need a running back. We're
going to get one. It's a deep class. You just
gotta find the one you like. And we think that
the value at twenty will be similar to what it
was at twelve, which leads you to believe that it's
not a trade up draft. And like they hit on

(22:21):
all of those notes, And I think the thing that's
interesting is like we can sit here and say it's
a deep running back class. You just have to figure
out which one you really like, and then they decide
one of I mean it was what RJ. Harvey wasn't
the only one, but they find one they really like,
and then a lot of fans are like, no, not
that one, And that's just the I mean, that's the

(22:44):
way fans are. That's a fine reaction, but there's plenty
of reason I think to like RJE. Harvey and I
don't you know, Pat Bryant, like seventy four, okay, like
could you have got him later? I mean, seems like properly.
But also it's you know, I don't know what thirty
when other teams are thinking, So that's you know, that
was probably the one that maybe raised the most eyebrows.

(23:06):
And just like overall, I thought outside of the tight
end board not falling in a way that that you
know worked for them. You know, I thought overall, like
you know, running back, wide, receiver, defensive line in the
first two days, that all made sense. Just to pick
a number twenty was a little surprising, and the receiver
maybe they took it seventy fours a little surprising.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
Yeah, I mean, you.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
Know, they had a plan for the trade back with
the Giants Sarah at twenty, and then you know the
Tradion Henderson Mason Taylor thing.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
You know, that was that was the plan.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
They were pretty honest, They were pretty upfront about that
that that was the plan. And then you know what
happened is the number nine player on their board, a
guy that had a blue chip player, falls in your
laugh at twenty when Miami and Arizona pass on him,
and you got to.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
Make that move I mean, that's true, best player available.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
And as I always say, you know, if you draft
good players, you're gonna wake up one day and have
a good football team. And you know, I get that,
I get how you scrap plans based on that.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
But the thing that bothers me, I think is how
fans sort of, you.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Know, it became their identity, Like they fixate on a
player that they want in the process league up there,
and that becomes their identity, and then if the team.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
Doesn't draft that guy, all of a sudden, they're upset.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
And like for me, I don't know, I sort of
I liked the fact that I can still be surprised.
I like the fact that you know that they can
come away with something. They got a great player, and
then they got other good players too. Archie Harvey is
a really, really good player. If you've watched him play back. Bryant,
if he didn't have a bum at quarterback up there
at Illinois probably would have had, you know, double the numbers.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
That he had. I mean, the guy was always open.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
The ones that confused me as I watched this and
the Pat Bryant thing made me raise an eyebrow. But
then I went and watched him that night. I was like, Okay,
I see what the problem is here the ones that
bothered me. You got Jones, the defensive lineman who I
loved talking to him on the interview, and Ke Robinson.
You've got a special teams ace that really doesn't have
very many snaps.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
At the linebacker.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
And then you've got a guy who is sort of
a tweener defensive end forty three defensive ends, sort.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
Of hybrid guy.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
It doesn't really fit either position in the defense you run.
And those two sort of perplex me a little bit.
Is are you on the same boat there?

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Yeah, I think so. I mean, Saviian Jones, like I
feel what they like about him. I mean the mentality,
the you know, the motor, all of that. The skill
set is pretty obvious. I think you're right on the frame.
And then you just sort of see kind of, you know,
maybe he can play with you know, twenty twenty five
more pounds over the course of his career, and then
he's a little bit more in the John Franklin Myers

(25:32):
in the different builds, but you know, maybe he can
play you know, that role in the future. He's obviously
that those are both draft true draft and develop right
same obviously with the tight end in the seventh round.
Those are guys who are who are young in football.
Stadia and Jones played a lot, but he's a young guy.

(25:53):
And then Kee Robinson, I mean you're just basically looking
at it and saying, he played three hundred and seventy
defensive snaps in college and we think his best football
is in front of him now. Again, like at one
point thirty four, Okay, you know, like you're you're drafting
these guys, uh in a position where you know they're
they're they're draft positioning suggests that you're thinking you're going

(26:16):
to get a lot out of them over the course
of their first contracts, and so you know, then it's
on the coaching staff, which you know Sean Payton has
a lot of confidence in to to sort of like
help fulfill the vision for these guys. But yeah, I
mean Kee Robinson was was the guy I guess where
I looked at it and thought, yeah, I mean maybe,
you know, maybe maybe he'll developed and turn into a

(26:37):
pass rusher and it'll be just another mid round, you know,
pass rusher that George Payton's drafted that turns into a
like Wow, look at how smart this guy is. But
he's got a long way to go in order to
make that reality.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
I was talking with Parker Gabriel at Parker J. Gabriel
on on Twitter that that.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Was sort of the thing that that, you know, you
look at this, I'm like, all right.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
Are we changing defensive identity?

Speaker 2 (26:58):
I mean, Jones is obviously the placement for John Franklin
Myers because they can't afford to pay all those guys, right,
But you know, he's again the sort of a tweener
because he was a he was an edge guy who
probably is inside here. And then you know, you talk
about is this the rizzy draft with Q and the punter?
At least that the Day three was kind of the
risy day, you know overall, and then you go out

(27:21):
and you get a project tight end that is so
far off the radar for most casual fans. Caleb Wawner
was a basketball player at Utah. He's got fifty seven
total snaps in seventh grade. He never played outside of
that one season there at Utah. He never played full on,
full padd at eleven on eleven football, But the fifty
seven snaps that you.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
Saw there fairly promising.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
Is this another one where Sean Payton's like, look, how genius?

Speaker 3 (27:45):
I am a little bit? Yeah, I mean, you know,
it's funny then as last year, you know, they took
Devon Bailey in the seventh round for like exactly the
opposite reasons. It was like, Okay, he's got some knocks
against him, he's old, you know, he's he's like twenty
seven or whatever. But like they just knew he could play.
They watched him and they're like, yes, this guy will

(28:05):
play early. We like him. He's great value in the
seventh round. Loner is like the exact opposite of that.
It's like if he hits, it's a complete lottery ticket.
And if he hits, the upside is enormous. And if
he doesn't, like who will be surprised? And so that
that's kind of you know where they're at on that,
and it just is one of those where, you know,

(28:26):
I think part of the reason they they it made sense.
I think no one was surprised when they traded back
from where was it, you know, one ninety seven somewhere
in there, and a lot of that was just you
know that a lot of that was I think they
wanted to take a punter, and then they ended up
drafting loaner because there was going to be competition for
him in the free agent market. So you take Alex

(28:47):
down the zone round, so you know, it's it's gonna
be fascinating to see what happens with him. You know,
that's a guy who a lot of times it's like
it's fun to draft that and all that. And then
you get to the end of August and you're like,
what do we do you with him? Can we get
him on the practice squad? We know there were teams
that were interested in signing him as a free agent.
Do we have to give him a fifty three man

(29:08):
roster spot even if he's not going to be a
game day active for us, you know, to start the year,
all year or whatever. And so sometimes you end up
in a situation with guys like that where it's hard
to make a decision on exactly what to do with
them their first year. But like, listen, if the guy
becomes the red zone threat, whether it's as a rookie
or over the first couple of years of his career,

(29:30):
people are going to look around and go like, man,
I mean that was that was pretty savvy to get it,
you know, to draft a guy who played fifty seven
college STAPs.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Yeah, absolutely, And honestly, what better situation for him to
learn behind than Hall of famers Lucas Crowl and Rob
Gronkowski here endeavor.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Right, Lucas crawl that's the best player on the team,
right right.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
And when gron finally gets here, you know.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
Yeah, I want to get down here from Vail. It's good.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Yeah, yeah, right, once he's done at fitness gallery or
whatever it was time with Parker Gabriel, that part could
Jay Gabriel, you know, I mean you look around at
this thing. Overall, it looks like they did exactly what
they said they were going to do. They they plugged
the holes that they felt like they needed to plug them.
Maybe maybe you want to add a free agent linebacker.
Maybe you want to add a free agent running back

(30:14):
to those rooms, you know, with just this insurance on
green Law who had the slight, you know, the slight
tre and then you had no veteran really in the
running back room. Heard that there's some some preliminary interest
and possibly Nick Chubb. Does that Does that excite anybody
at this point?

Speaker 3 (30:30):
I mean, you know, at the name right, and then
you and then you have a veteran guy in the room.
I mean, if you get something out of them, great,
even if it's a part of the season. Like I
just think at some point, I think, at some point,
you know, you've got to do it running back what
they did behind Courtland Sun at receiver last year, Like
they made the tough call with Tim Patrick and Camp

(30:51):
and then once Josh Reynolds got hurt, they just decided,
you know what, we're going all in on the young guys,
and like whether they bring in a guy like Chubb
or not, Like I think, even if they bring in
a guy like Chubb, you're gonna want to do that
at running back.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
At some point.

Speaker 3 (31:05):
Now that there's there's also a point at which you say, Okay,
this room is just not ready. That's a different conversation
than trying to identify whether they are ready or not.
But to me, it's like the rotation looks pretty straightforward
to me, right, I mean, you've got you've got Estimate
and Harvey and then you've got a battle for the
third back, you know, gig between Tyler Badet and Julu

(31:28):
McLoughlin and Camp and you kind of and Blake Watson
and then you go from there. So, like I guess
I'd like to see three young guys in that backfield.
It's a young man's position, and they've they've got players
now that like Sean Payton has picked, Like these are
you know, Bidet was around before obviously, but like these
are Sean Payton guys now. And you've got and I

(31:51):
guess McLoughlin was for a year, but like these are
guys that have made it through or were picked by
by Sean Payton. And so you know, let's see what
they've got. Let's see if they're good enough to to
be you know, the backfield on a playoff team.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
Talkol Parker Gabriel at Parker J. Gabriel on Twitter.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Look is this roster as you as you just roughly
pointed out there, this this is Sean Payton's team. Now,
this is his roster. This is his team. These are
mostly you know, it's it's eighty five ninety percent his
picks at this point as we look at, is there
more pressure on this team this year to not only
make the playoffs, but you know, perhaps win a playoff game,

(32:28):
because this roster is uh is what Sean Payton wanted
and is now fully you know his team.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
Yeah, I think so. I mean especially like you know,
like once you have and doesn't like you know, bo
Nix's rookie year was not like you know Joe Burrows
or or or you know, Jayden Daniels or CJ's jobs
or whatever. But like once you have a rookie quarterback
or a young quarterback who shows he can do it
and you make the playoffs with like it is on

(32:56):
at that point, like it is fully on, Like you're
in the window. You'll never have more flexibility in this
run of several years than you have. You know, wildbow
Nicks is cheap and so like you see teams when
they find their guy at quarterback and me saw it
last year with Washington, and he saw it with Houston
here before that, Like you load up as as aggressively

(33:17):
as you can and as fast as you can. And
the Broncos like really they couldn't go all chips on
the table in that regard even if they wanted to,
mostly because of Russell Wilson's dead money. But like you're
in the window now, like this is this is the time,
let's go, you know, it's it's it's winning time now,
and so yeah, I think there's there's pressure, But I

(33:38):
also think if you just look up and down the roster,
like I think a couple of these rookies are gonna
have to contribute in relatively substantial ways. I mean, you
can look right to Harvey obviously the punter, you know,
but I think they need another one in there, whether
it's Jones or Bryant, like somewhere along the way to
really have as well rounded of a group as they
want to have.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
Parko, we appreciate it as always that worker Jay Gabriel
