Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm told is Nick Ferguson. I'm not sure I recognize him.
It's been that long since I've seen anybody. How's it going.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's been a long time, Ben, I'll tell you this.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
It's been this long that I have grown a beard,
cut it off, grown it again, cut it off again,
and only to.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Do a skin facehoo.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Yes, yes, this is all I grew the entire time
next day stuffs.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
So between the two of us, you've got the beard
and cover grants back there behind the glasses. You know.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
I are going to join us here in just a
little bit. He was since some kind of exclusive meeting
with George Payton. I don't know he's doing Steve atwatery things.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
But he will be here shortly, important stuff, but still
making time for us.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
There you go. That's the kind of guy, Steve. That
is the kind of guy Steve.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Is first day of OTA's that media, Yes, could watch today, Nick,
any any thoughts on OTS Well, it is only so.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Much that I can say, being a member of the
media with only one day. But there's a lot to
definitely unpacked. Just keep in mind that it is OTA's.
There's no show the pad songs, It's hard to help. Yeah,
it's hard to get a field for things. But I
will say this, just being able to watch guys move around,
to see their fluidity, that is something that is important.

(01:13):
Before we started to show, you brought up uh Devon Beiley.
I mean, he's still one of those guys, very fluent movement.
I'm really interested to see what happens in that wide
receiver room because there's a lot of talent and there's
a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Of competition in that room.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
And for me, I want to start up by saying this,
I am a defensive person by nature, so I love
the game, but I love everything about defense. Like I
would love a three nothing game. I mean that's kind
of a baseball score, but I would.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Love that game.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
But seeing Brandon Johnson on the same field in the
secondary with Hufanga Man, I.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Was gassed up. I was hyped. Brandon Jones, Yes, Brandon,
Brandon Jones, the receiver who's who said tone? I think
he's with the Steelers.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Now, yeah, I mean there's obviously of Dre Greenlaw out
there because he's still you know, coming back from the
tweet tweet to stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
He'll be back for training camp.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
But you know, and you can't really tell as far
as offensive line defensive line interactions because again you're shorts
and a helmet.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Okay, well, here is what I can say. What you're
saying right now, totally true, totally accurate. But the speed
of Nick Benito's get off, you don't need pads Onto
to kind of eccentially what that looks like. I mean,
he was really getting off the ball almost still a point.

(02:34):
I was looking at it as though I was official
and was like, was he onside or not?

Speaker 2 (02:39):
But his get off is impeccable.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Yeah, and that's I mean, his first STEP's always been,
always been great, and the fact that he's rounded out
his game has helped HI make him the lead. And
we suspect there'll be a contract extension in his near
near future.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Well hold on, hold on, man, how near of a
future are we predicting, mister broncos inside, Well.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
It'll be within the next few months.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
In the next few months. I mean, you didn't give
me anything. I opened opened the door for you to
give me something. I don't know the day he's gonna
sign it.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
They haven't agreed, you know yet, So there's there's still
some stuff Tron out there.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
But that's coming.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
So is there a particular month that Broncos fans should
get signed.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah, I think we'll get it done by August.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
But I'm not one hundred on that, So you know,
we'll see they're they're they're not they're not far apart,
I'll put it that way.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
So well, for a guy who who's been as productive
as he's been since he's been here, how can you
not how can anyone justify not paying Nick Benito what
he has earned. I'm not gonna say, you know that
you're given it to him as.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Something that he's earned. Yeah, I mean that that's what
you do. And he's he's earned it.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
He's he's gone from being a sort of one dimensional
third down pass rush specialist to being in an edge
player at a premier level in the NFL. And uh,
you know, Coop got paid last years he deserved and
and he's when you look at things, I mean, I
love Jonathan Cooper, but in terms of you know, ability,
he's probably more of a rotational guy on most on

(04:08):
most teams, and he got he got paid pretty well.
Benito as a superior athlete and a superior player, and
he's going.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
To get a bigger contract.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
I think a lot of this is just structuring stuff
to make sure that the big money hits after the
rust money falls off after this season and you're good
to go. So that's really I think where a lot
of this is set up. They want to make sure
that the big money for these extensions that they do
hits in the twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven seasons,
so that that money is through and then they can

(04:36):
pay bo Nix following that, which you know if they
if they have to.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
So they're setting themselves up for that.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
So are we looking at like the twenty five million
dollars a year range or are we looking at like thirty.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Five million dollars a year?

Speaker 1 (04:46):
I would say you're looking at twenty five to thirty five.
It's in that range.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Okay, so he's not going to be the highest paid,
but he's not going to be he loves the highest
paid of the elite pass rush.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
He'll probably get something that'll put him right out about fifth.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Okay, well i'll forget now, Usually when these contracts are generated,
you have incentsives. Now what I learned as a player,
you don't want an insensive laden contract because I mean,
you don't want your money beholden to something related to
the overall team schedule as far as the results of concern.
You want that based on your level of production. But
I do foresee him getting close to being one of

(05:21):
those top pay guys if it's just not with incentives
added to it as well.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yeah, and I think I think you can come to
an agreement on something that adds in some performance based
stuff on top of it that's equitable for everybody.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Like I said, I think that will get done.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
I think I don't think that's going to be too
much of an issue, and that's sort of a priority
for what they're doing now.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Speaking of just kind of OTAs that know is just
kind of surface level. But I have to say, man,
Evan Ingram look look like some Kognac and what I
mean very smooth, right, very smooth.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Shorts that Evan Ingram look good, look story of everyth Ingram's.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Come on, Ben, come on, Ben, I'm sorry, let's kind
of look at some bright spots, because yes, it's only shorts,
but for me, once again looking at the movement of
the player, watching him be able to kind of get
out in space and attack the middle of the field
and for the biggest part for me is how he

(06:22):
runs with the ball. Right, even though he's he's a
tight end by nature, he looks like a big as
wide receivers.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
He's receiver. He's a big receiver. I mean, what were
you what were you.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Calling him bigot hey slot, He's a big slot.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
He's a heavy slot. I mean, that's that's what he is.
At the end of the day, he's you know, he's not.
I mean, he's a he's a tight end the same
way like David Boston was. See that's different. I mean
Boston was just like like two large for wide receivers.
He had muscles on muscles wide receiver for their pair

(06:56):
of reasons.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
But you know, no, watching Ingram move around you and
you mentioned heavy slot, he's going to be a heavy
weapon for for boon Nicks that that's going to be
that third and short red zone type of guy. And
usually think when the team gets inside the red zone,
you've got to run the ball.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yeah, it starts by getting to know him.

Speaker 5 (07:17):
You know, see what makes him tick, what makes him go,
what his passions are. And it's very clear from you know,
the beginning that he's all about football. He's all about
taking care of himself. And you know, he's been here
since he was signed, you know, getting ready and preparing.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
And so that's been fun to see. So I've gotten
to be around him a lot.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
And then we just start working on the field, you know,
early O two as you get to cut my hair
and throw routes and just you know, see what he's like,
See what kind of routes he runs, see what he's thinking.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
You know, we talk a lot.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
He's always asking me about certain things, and then when
you get him out to practice, it's just seeing how
he reacts. And so you know, I'm excited to and
include him and add him to what we already got.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
And I think it would be good for us box
on on evid Ingram there.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Yeah, I think we're all excited to see what he does,
you know, in terms of loosening things up for the
other guys, because that's that's having Ingram's role. I mean,
he's gonna catch passes and all that kind of stuff.
But the idea is the Broncos have not had somebody
at that position that's been able to loosen up the
middle of the field and move the coverage, you know,

(08:19):
to to create one on ones, especially over there on
the outside for guys like Barvin Mims and maybe try Franklin.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Now, the biggest question was, well, with Ingram's past catching ability,
how is how can you factor that into the run
game and what I mean by that because you know,
and this has been the issue for the Broncos for
the past couple of years getting a run game on track,
How will I mean Evan Ingram actually impact that.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
For me, it's it's spacing right, getting.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Those linebackers outside of the box and creating more favorable
box that the Broncos can run. But the idea today
talking to a couple of individuals, what we see Evan
Ingram's hand in the dirt?

Speaker 1 (09:01):
And I said, I don't want to see his hand
in dirt. You won't see that much because that's just
not what he does. I mean, he spends eighty percent
of his time split out wide. They do occasionally put
him in there, but most of the time it's he's
actually standing up in like a tight bunch than he
is actually hand in the dirt. But he doesn't play
in line very often, and he hasn't played very in

(09:22):
line very often in years like that's just not something
that he does.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
At the pro level. But this is a way that
the Broncos can use.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
The pass catching tight end to block essentially a defender
without ever laying hands on it. Because once again, the
whole idea is how do you make it easy for bonecks?
How do you make it easy for any of these
running backs. For the Denver Broncos, it is by numbers,
using pure math, get those linebackers in those secondary defenders

(09:49):
outside the box.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
So even though you didn't really in this case, they
epen Ingram, he.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Didn't really put his hands on someone physically to drive
them off the ball, but he did that by creating
that Roman that that space to operate.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Yeah, and that's the biggest part of what Sean Payton's
offense does is it utilizes that tight end to create
that kind of space for everybody else. And so, you know,
that's something I think that that having Evan Ingram, if
he can stay healthy, will be a big part of
we were lacking it last year between the Adam Trautman's
and you know, Hall of Famer Lucas Kroll and you know.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
And and and the other tight ends roster. You know,
it's it's tough too.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
It was tough to get that that sort of natural
creation of space that Sean Payon wants. And so now
you've got a guy that theoretically be able to do that,
and that's the hope is is that he will.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
That's what he's here to do.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Okay, last season from a tight end position, even though
he's technically a.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Fullback, but he wants to be known as a tight end.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
Nate Atkins, I think he led all tight ends and
Denver Broncos with touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
They had like four high in receptions on the season.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
So with that in mind, I know you love the
Vegas odds and the over and unders. Okay, so who
ends the season?

Speaker 6 (11:00):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Better?

Speaker 5 (11:00):
Yet?

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Better yet, let's just say the first four games of
the season, who has the most touchdown receptions for the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
For the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
We talked about, we talk about Nate Evan Ainger has.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Never been a red zone guy like you're been going
on the tight ends.

Speaker 7 (11:17):
Yes, I don't know. He he blew us off to
talk to something. What was that guy's name?

Speaker 2 (11:27):
George Patton didn't blow you guys, You know, you big.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
Guy, when you come on the show you introduce yourself.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
I don't. I don't. I don't even want them off.
You know who this is, yes, exactly.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
So what do you think after the first four games
from a tiny standpoint is leading the Broncos and red
zone touchdowns?

Speaker 2 (11:50):
I mean, I mean Nate Atkins, yes he's.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
An h back, but I think it'll be Nate Adkins feeler.
That's the thing, like everyone know have been a touchdown score.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
He's just not well. This is why he can't help
be that guy.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
His rookie Seeson, he had six. He's never come close
to that since. The biggest he's close, come closer that
is four touchdowns in a season. He's just not a
red zone threat.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
He could be a redison thread. I mean he could be,
but he's not been one in a decade. But this
is why change of scenery changes everything.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Now he can now Sean Payton has a guy who
can get you those back in line catches.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
I mean he was supposed to be doing that for
Doug Peterson.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
So you don't think he can do it. I'm not
saying he can't do it. I'm just saying that people
just don't use him that way.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
They didn't know but.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
The Giants didn't use him that way through two off
the three offensive coordinators.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
The Jags didn't use him that way the three offensive coordinators.
And that's why do you think that it was. Do
you think it's because he can't do it or because
it wasn't in the game.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Because I think he's a heavy slot guy, and I
think he used him when you get down or to
box guys out, you run the pick off him and
then you got another guy come whipping around the backside
of him where you can get the catch.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
This is for me, the Broncos should utilize him in
this way, similar to how Travis Kelsey is used by
Andy Reid inside the red zone. R I mean, I'm
not saying they shouldn't do that. I'm just saying nobody,
nobody does do that with him.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Yeah, but that was Dan Ben.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
That was then.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
This is now right, And this is why guys change
from team to team because they want their numbers, they
want to be featured a certain way. And even though
he hasn't been featured that way in the past, does
not have any prediction on what's gonna happen in the future.
But this season, I think you know, as the season
goes on. Right now, we're talking about the first four games.

(13:36):
He's gonna be involved in that particular space.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
He's largely been between the twenties guy throughout his career.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
He's thirty one years old.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
I don't know about old dogs, new tricks, all that
kind of stuff, but he's about to be thirty one.
I just don't see him suddenly carving out a new
end zone role that he didn't have before.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Okay, so you said twenty hours out, who is the
say of that he's a between the twenties guys?

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Okay, fine, you and the high red and he catches
a five yard or or or slam or.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Whatever and he runs it in zone.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
Right now, we don't have to worry about the Broncos saying, okay,
well where are the Broncos. As far as rushing touchdowns
inside the red zone? That number may be low because
now you're doing it from a passing standpoint. Well, I
think you're going to see passes to r J. Harvey
more than you saw passes to the other running backs
last year. I think that's gonna be a big part
of what you're gonna see this year.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
But Nate Adkins was the little red zone guy like that.
They put him back. There's the h back.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
They cleared everything out and then they'd run him underneath
it and he was open.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
And it works.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
And I mean, if you're if you're having me, bet
money on it. I would bet money that through the
first four games this season. Nate Adkins says, more touchdowns,
bet money on today.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
This money I got some bitcoin.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Ben is liable to send a text message over to
the organization.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Hey do you think you can inside the zone? You exactly?
I don't know if I can tell a story in
the air. You know you know that story. I actually
an NFL and coach. Wait it was a game you
played it? Yes, yes, I do know the story. Don't
tell the story. You can tell it to Steve Off.

Speaker 8 (15:14):
Yes, of course you can't be getting inside information that
didn't used.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
It for personal games like twenty years ago. Man, you
don't do that now.

Speaker 6 (15:23):
No, he's not looking at his face, so why would
never do what's been not doing that at all?

Speaker 2 (15:37):
I take it over.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Over. But this this, you know, just watching the guys
at OTAs, it was great to just kind of be
out there. It was a day well to me, it
was allowed and also you know Bronco's alumni. I saw
Steve and so many other players I haven't seen in
a while. Ben Hamilton, right, who played with me. I
hadn't seen Ben since I been back here, but then

(16:01):
he showed up, so it was great to see and
to see the guys seeing him out there. But going
back to the team, this is a very exciting year.
And I told Vance Joseph when they were coming off
the field, I'm really excited about the defense that they
put together because they have a talented secondary. They've got
to figure out, you know, what's gonna happen with the
linebackers and the backup linebackers.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
But they're great up front. So this should be a
turnover season for the Denver.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Broncos defense is gonna be I mean, they were nice
last year. They're gonna be real nice this year. I think,
you know, getting Jaded Barron in there and shoring up
the slot's going to be big. I think they've got
a role for Drew Sanders out of the inside backer
coming downhill and.

Speaker 8 (16:37):
Pretis Packers, you know, Alex Singleton, Dre Greenlaw. Come on, man,
we've got some we got some balls up in there. Yeah,
and they got You know, both safeties can hit. You know,
Ivanga can hit, Jones can hit.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
We've seen it. You know.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
I think this defense, they stay healthy, this just could
be the I mean they were arguably one of the
top defenses last year. I think they could be far
and away the top defense this year.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
I'm glad you brought up uh, you know, Sanders because
for me, this this is a proven year for him
and usually you find out by the third years.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Yeah, but for him playing at the linebacker position.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Now, if greenlaw is State remains healthy entire season, it's
gonna be very difficult for him. His only hope is
that maybe there's some kind of setback with Alex Singleton,
which I don't think not.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
I mean I saw him on the field today.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
I mean he looked great just and once again he
is no pads or whatever, but he is, you know,
his spirits and high. He can't wait to kind of
get out there and play. And I think he might
be on the verge of being cleared uh in the
upcoming weeks. But that's going to be a group that
we have to pay attention to. And using Drew Sanders
from a blitzing standpoint, to me, that's gonna be a

(17:46):
key for Vance Joseph in the defense.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Nobody's talking about Cody Barton when.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
He's not here anymore here, Uh yeah, okay, yeah, I
think I think he's in Carolina.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Just know the Titans. The Titans, I know it was
one of those teams in powdered Blue with something. One
of those teams is not very good. One of those teams.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
I think some NFL insiders would say that both of
those teams are not too too good.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
That's why nobody talking about Jelsey went to the Carolina pants.
All the Broncos linebackers go to the Chelsea went to
the Panthers. Yet Barton going to the Titans. Okay, that's
Cody's not here anymore. But I mean that was.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
If Singleton can stay healthy, if green Law can stay healthy,
that the position.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
And we'll get into this here in just a second.
We come back. We gotta hit break.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
I am most concerned about, and I want to hear
what you guys are, but the position I've been most
concerned about. Everybodys talking about running back, whether they you know,
these backs get it done, or receivers or tight ends,
I'm concerned about the inside backers. If they can stay healthy,
we'll talk about now we come back here Broncos Country Night, kaway.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
A high right now? Five six six zero's the tacks line.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Stacey Utah says, really good to hear number one, number
twenty five and number twenty seven on the mic.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Yes, Ben, you are number one, Stacy from you that
number one and what your heart? Oh?

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Yes, number two, number two, So I guess that would
be number two. But yeah, I wouldn't really, I didn't care.
It was just like, whatever whatever you got. I never
I never even picked it.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
I was just like, what do you where? The bottles
were number one?

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Don't they receivers usually receivers usually want that number one?

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Yeah, yeah it was you have to live up to
that though. Yeah, yeah, I didn't care. I just did
not care. I was like, whatever you got. You know
number Evan Ingram had, he was wearing number one to
day in practice? Was he you feel like eleven? Would he?
He used to be double one? Was eleven? I think,
so I'll hold me to that.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
But Brandon is giving me the thumbs up saying, yeah
he was, Okay, I think he was. I think he
was number one, So I vaguely recall, O, can he
be the one of one? For a minute, there, didn't he?

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Or was it in seventeen seventeen? Yes?

Speaker 1 (19:59):
Not eleven seventeen. Okay, well I remember there were two
who watches? Who watches Jacksonville games? Come on exactly, everyone
says it's Herb. No, h Herb like you RB? Okay, Herb, Herb.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
See I told you it all depends on where are
you from? Yeah, because I mean I don't know, I've
never said herb, so well, HERB wouldn't like that.

Speaker 6 (20:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
Finally, it's totally unrelated. We'll get back to it. We'll
get totally related. The the KFC account on Twitter, the
Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
Uh, it follows the Spice Girls and then like eight
guys named Herb, So it's following.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
It's got thirteen herbs and spices. Herbs are herbs and spices. Well,
I mean, whatever the point herb herbs whatever. But he
follows like eight guys name in the Spice Girls, so
it's got herbs and spy. You know, it's following.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
Yeah, that's all it does, is it randomly follows like
eight guy, different guy in the five Spike Girls. So
that it's following the you know, the thirteen herbs and
spices or whatever thing. It's weird, very interesting. I talked
a little bit before we hit the brake. I'm concerned
about the inside linebacker position, but just based on health.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
You look at this. I mean, Drew Sanders has not
shown that he's.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
A complete project yet, a finished product yet, although they
do have a role for him this year. They want
him to be the downhill inside backer. And then you've
got Drake Greenlaw's coming off injury, tweaked a little something
that's sent it back. He's gonna be back for campany
and Alsh Singleton coming back off a major injury. To me,
that's the position group I don't think we're talking enough about,
because that is a position group that gets stressed out

(21:31):
a little bit. In Vance Joseph defense, those inside backers
they got to be responsible for taking tight ends. And
you know, if you're especially if you're in cat coverage,
you've got tight You got an inside backer, it's gonna
be a rolling and you get a lot of athletic
tight ends in this division.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Guys, No when't healthy.

Speaker 8 (21:49):
I think Drake green Law especially has got to speed too,
and alex Ing. I'm sorry, alex Ing, Wason good, but
I would say that oh yeah, yeah, Dre. Dre is
a little bit better. Also, let's be guy at markasof Yes,
Drew Sanders, he got speed too. He has feed before

(22:12):
he had the injury, and I'm pretty sure he's one
hundred percent from that, so I don't think that'll be
a huge issue. The thing is Spike's in stand stay healthy,
that's the biggest thing. But I stay healthy. I think
that position can take a big jump this year.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
I mean, I know they played well.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Lash came out of nowhere like Alen Siels got hurt
and we weren't even talking about it because Cody I
have of Josie Jewel Barton came out there and was
bawling like.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
I was like, okay, I see it, my bad man. Yeah, okay. See.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
As far as the linebacker position is concerned, am I
slightly concerned about it? Yes, slightly because of the injury,
well because of the injuries, but there is an escape
hatch for vance shows in the Broncos defense. And the
reason why I look at it because I was one
of those guys who smaller safety being able to play
in the box, understanding, you know, route combinations, understanding, office

(23:06):
of linement, how they pull, and all of those things.
To me, I look at the secondary now they do
have the pieces where they can do that. And as
I was watching practice today, I was visualizing in my
head saying, Okay, well, Alex Singleton is out on this
particular play. If I had to substitute someone in for
one of the linebackers, which one of the defensive backs,

(23:28):
what I actually substitute in?

Speaker 2 (23:31):
Not as though PJ.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Lock has had a lot of experience last year in
the secondary. If you want to, if you advance, you
can take one of your linebackers off the field. You
could put Brandon Jones or who foung it down in
there as an extra dB.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
And we've seen Advance do that quite a bit when
Vance was here as the head coach. We saw him
do that with Will Parks, you know, putting him down
there in the box.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
To do that. I wouldn't be surprised to see if
they do some things like that.

Speaker 8 (23:55):
The thing is you got to be able to read
those pulling linemen and be able to make tackles like
the linebackers would if they decide, hey, we're gonna check out,
We're gona run, We're gonna run the rund.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
But this is where Brendon Jones and Whufunger are better
that than the PJ PJ in that situation.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
I want to keep him in the middle of the field.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Right.

Speaker 8 (24:14):
Oh hey, DJ came up when he was healthy last year.
It was I'm telling you he wasn't. He wasn't all
the right last year.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
I want to keep him in the middle field.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
I want to put those two guys Brendon Jones, who
were close in line of scrimmage, who are better blizters,
guys who are better overfield tacklers in those positions. But
that is an escape hatch for Vance Joseph, just in
case someone were to get nicked in the game or
at some point.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
During the season.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
Yeah, and I think that that's something we're gonna have
to keep our eye on because, again, as much as
I want this thing to everybody to be healthy, reality
is guys get dinged up, guys get hurt. And it's
a position that's got a history. Our guys have a
history of getting a bit dinged up at that position.
So something to keep your eyes any of the position
group that you're you're really worried out, because I'm really not.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
As I look around this roster. You know, the defensive
line is pretty stacked.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
The secondary looks like it's pretty stacked, especially with the
addition of whofogged they're at the safety position.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
You look on the offensive side, maybe maybe right tackle.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
I'm still a little worried about. And then the running
back from I wish they had a veteran in there.
But other than that, I'm not worried about too much
of roster.

Speaker 8 (25:18):
I'm not either man. I feel confident, man, and we
have some depth, some quality depth, not just guys, but
guys who can step in and play and make some plays.
And when you have that, your team is better because
each day in practice you're making you're making each other
better because you.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
Don't want to mess up because the guess what, the
guy behind you, he can step in and play too.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
So I'm not concerned about this group. But I'm ready
to watch this group work. And that's whid receivers, because
that's going to be a highly competitive room boy, you know,
But that's what.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Makes that's what that's what's going to make them all better.
I Mean, they say pressure makes diamonds right out of coal.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
And that's what I'm expecting to take place with this
Wires group because the addition of this Trent Sherfield kid
who played at Minnesota, and I know they brought him
in just saying okay, well, he is going to be
a special teams guy. He's gonna push a lot of
those guys who are pushing for maybe that fourth or
fifth wide receiver spot. And I think through that competition,

(26:17):
we're gonna get the best wide receivering group that the
Denver Broncos have kind of collectively put together in a
couple of years.

Speaker 1 (26:25):
It's gonna be interesting because you've got six or seven
wide receiver spots, depending on how you look at it,
and five of those I think are spoken for Courtland Sudden,
Marvin Mams, Devon Vele, treasher Field, Pat Bryant, and then
maybe Troy Franklin.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
That's six, right, There is anybody else that you know?

Speaker 1 (26:39):
You got Michael Bandy, Jerwan Newton, at Perry, Joaquin Davis, Corning, Jackson,
Kyrie's White, all fighting for maybe maybe another spot.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
Look, man, seeing Bandy out there today once again, I
know is a OTA's don't hate me for saying and
kind of phrasing this way, but I have to because
it's the first thing that came to my mind.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
I was like, is that let's walker out there? Eighty three?
Was he quicker than fast?

Speaker 3 (27:06):
Real?

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Let fail guy? High motive guy? You really like your
your daughter to marry.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
White?

Speaker 2 (27:12):
Just for saying Michael Bady is white, I'm not saying,
that's not what I said. I said, and I coosely
thought s eighty three is that where real Juliet Ede
have been out there on the field. Listen.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
It's the route running ability and just being in that position.
I wouldn't rule him out right away. So this is
gonna be a fight at that wide receiver position, especially.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
For those last two spots. Well, he's Joe Lombardy's guy.
To Lombardy brought him over from the chargers, you know
where he was when he was the o c over there.
So that's that's Lombardi's guys.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
I wouldn't be surprised if one of these guys winds
up on the practice squad as well. With these expanded
practice squad and call ups that we have now, I
wouldn't be surprised to see.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
Listen, hour hero it's the text that we're talking about
some things.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
Uh during the break about the running back room, I
want them to add a veteran in there, just to
have one. I would love to bring in, like a
Nick Chubb something like that, you know, on the cheap,
just to just to have a veteran voice in that room,
because you've got a veteran voice in every other room
except that one.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Fully, he should see his workout videos. He looks like
he's a dog's he's leaping over pad stacks and stuff
like that.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
I mean, so I'd love for them to bring him
in and give Estimate a little little Coppet, little light
of fire with Audric.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
For you know, for that role.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
It's not just about that, because it's the depth, the
veteran leadership, of the threat of losing your job and
sharing you know, time with another running back. But like
you said, see the physicality that he brings. It's not
like you have to lean on him like a twenty
twenty five carries a game. No, just like you see
past rush specialists. I still believe that you can have

(28:48):
a running back who specialize in a unique style to
play at this stage of his career. But you still
need someone who's been there before. Now, has Nick Chubb
won to a title?

Speaker 2 (29:00):
No, but but he's.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Endured a lot of hardships dealing with his injuries and
guys seeing that in the room, having that conversation.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
To know how your career can blossom but it can
be cut short. It can motivate a lot of the
guys in that room.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
Yeah, and how hard he worked to come back to
it's stilling that work ethic and some of those younger.

Speaker 8 (29:19):
Guys Peterson did he came back from those surgeries.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Anymore.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
They don't build him like that, like the factory that
Adrian Peterson came from. They blew up the factor because
he's the last one.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Like the terminator, he ran through it. Nicholas as a dog,
he was a bad man. Like today, I saw R. J.
Harvey and someone was like, how much you think he's
squatsquat ridiculous? Huge legs, legs look like those turkeys, you
get it.

Speaker 9 (29:57):
The yeah, lars on the wood end like that on
the bone on the other it looks like it looks
like me from the knee down.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
And then he looks like, you know, it looks like
sha quads from the knee up. You know his quads. Dude,
look like he spent some time in Springfield.

Speaker 6 (30:15):
Right.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
If you ever watch The Simpsons, you know where Springfield is.
That's what it seems like. Like somehow he was near
to some radioactive place and it just ballooned his thighs.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
Yeah, that's all. It doesn't would you look at it
doesn't look like Yeah, his dies are like too big for.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
The rest of us, And you're like, wait, what that's
a great cop talking about the turkey lady.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Looks like Man, it's like it looks like a giant
turkeys rolling around with somebody. He's like, bone down here,
but something huge. He's just he's just said, dude, yeah.
And you see him going through the drills.

Speaker 8 (30:47):
Man, he his speed up, moving so quickly when he's
going through the drills and they low to the ground
and he looks like the.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Real deal, bro, Yeah he does. I think he's getta
pleasantly surprised a lot of people. I know a lot
of people at the Heartshet of Travon Henderson at Ohio
State and.

Speaker 2 (31:01):
All that kind of stuff. I think RJ.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
Harvey is gonna make people forget all about him by
the time we're by the time we're well into this season.
The receiver room, it looks interesting. We talked about it
being kind of packed. Ale Is getting a lot of
work early. This is There's been some speculation out there
that if Alee and Pat Bryant come on early, the
Courtland Sutton could be a target.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
To get moved. What do you guys think about that?

Speaker 3 (31:22):
That that's very interesting and considering the fact that I
know Cortland probably wants a new deal and the team
is kind of looking at other guys like Zach Allen,
Nick Benito, we talked about earlier looking for new deals.
If you can move Courtland and that means that those
other guys that you speak of have stepped it up,
then that's something that they would consider. But I would

(31:43):
like to see Cortland finish.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Out his career here. I mean, I'm just putting it out. Yeah.
I also think that.

Speaker 8 (31:51):
Some of these guys have to show it as well,
not only in practice but in the game the games, right,
I mean, Cortland is a proven leader. Uh need's approved
guy that you know the youngsters look up to, and
you know you need someone like that in that room.
Has Marvin Marvin Mims been uh you know, stepping up
playing well, yeah, he has. He's still on the young side, though.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
See, I don't think we're gonna get the chance to
see these young guys step up in that way too,
for the team to make that type of decision, because
you only have so many preseason games and a lot
of these veteran players are not going to play. And
let's just say, for the sake of argument, since we
just having a conversation, let's just say there has been
taught this offseason about moving Courtland. The idea is that

(32:34):
if you want to move him into trade, you don't
want to expose him to injury before the trade actually
goes through. So so for me, it's gonna take more,
you know, from the young players and the mindset from
the team before they consider actually moving Courtland sudden.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
I don't think. I don't think it's gonna happen. Well,
I just I mean, it doesn't happen. I only wants
that deal.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
He wants twenty five plus million per and that's I mean,
that's a big number, especially when you've got drafted these
young guys to take over for him. I think it's
more likely than people are letting on. I mean, but
you have to see and Bride step up in order
for that to happen. But I would not be surprised
at all if that, If that does come to pass,
those guys do step up.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
We'll see anybody else.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
You guys really keeping an eye on as we start
heading toward toward training camp.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
Anybody you really Oh that guy? That puzzer man, he
looks like that. What was the guy? The replacements? You
know as far as the leg? Yeah, the leg yeah booming? Yeah,
well you know that don't get drafted, so you know
he had to be special. Yeah he was. Uh yeah,
he was fun interview too. We got a chance to

(33:40):
interview him. Uh.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
He had this crazy mustache or whatever that. I guess
he's going to grow back out and when he comes
back up there. But he's the pride of his hometown
there in Australia.

Speaker 6 (33:48):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
He the best athlete to come out of there since
like the nineteen thirties when there was some cricket player
that was like some old world cricket player that came
out of his town.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
So what do you guys think about Caleb Lohner. Uh,
he's got whatfty seven snaps in seventh grade? I don't
think about him yet.

Speaker 1 (34:06):
Fifty six seven, come on, bro, Yeah, hey, and he's
got all the size in the world.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
He's a probat to me. He's a great project for
Sean Payne, a great low project. Yeah, I think, I
thinks I mean.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
And look, who better to learn from than two Hall
of famers and Rob Gonkowski and Lucas Krall.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
We got to hit a break. We'll be back after
