(00:00):
Let's go out to the Kay CommasBarrel hotline and welcome back our good friend
George Chari from Pro Football Focus.George, how you doing? Are you
doing pretty well? It's been toolong we've heard your voice, sir,
But you know, New York Giantscamp is in full swing and we wanted
to get a full report on theirstarting quarterback, Drew Locke. Right,

(00:20):
I think we lost, George,New York Giants can hear? Oh there
we go. Okay, okay, you know what it might have been is
the bandwidth here is being used upby by something else. There's another New
York Giant that did something really tremendoustoday, and so you know, it's
all the bandwidth is being sucked upin my area by the Darren Waller music

(00:42):
video. For those of you whohaven't seen it, But where's where's that
posted? Because I've seen it?Has anybody else seen this? You saw
it? Yeah? I saw iton the Instagram. Yeah, it's it's
a it's so me worthy. There'slike so many parts of that that are
me worthy. What's your what's yourfavorite? I mean the splashing water on

(01:03):
the flinching face when he's laying downon the sand, like I think that's
that's like, that is going tobe my go to for the next year.
It's so funny because I was watchingliterally like five minutes ago. I
was watching it for the fiftieth timetoday and I noticed how in I mean,
that last scene on the beach isone of the greatest cinematic achievements of

(01:25):
all time. And what I realizedis that when he's in the when he's
laying down, when when the wavesare slashing up, he like he's such
a bad actor. His eyes werewopen and then he's like closing them and
squinting because the water is like, you know, creening into his eyes.
It is it is really, honestly, the only thing that could have made
it better is if he wore oneof the really awful New Giants uniforms somewhere

(01:49):
in the in the music video. But it's a microcosm of the Giants as
there was everyone. It really itreally that scene like it's really going down
a lifetime achievement of war between thatdirector in Frederico Fellini, for for all
time, great for all time, great cinematic performances. All right. It's
honestly, like if you when peoplesay this league, that's what they This

(02:14):
is what they mean, right, like you, you could not write the
script what I mean, George.I mean I thought there was a point
where certain things should be off limits, but after seeing the wall of videos,
like, well, nothing is offlimits. You're getting a divorce and
you're making a music video about it. I mean, that's someone. I

(02:38):
saw one comment that I thought wasfunny, which was, if you put
this much effort into the marriage, maybe it's just going wo wow. I
kind of have to I kind ofhave to agree. I look, I
I just I didn't have a tonof respect for Darren Waller after last season,

(02:58):
but given what he had done throughand what he'd overcome as a human.
As a human, I had somerespect for him that has has gone
out the window. Unfortunately, someoneneeds to check on him. I hope
he's got some friends because the levelof auto tune that was put into that
music video, he's not right,He's not okay. Yeah, I like,

(03:21):
there's so much autotune. I couldn'ttell if it was Darren Waller singing
or Optimist Prime. You know.I at the uh, at the end
of the day, I what wouldpossess someone to do that, Like what
like if Darren Waller's always had,you know, some issues and I hope
he gets the help he needs. But right now, you you put yourself
out there. You this isn't asituation where you know, you know you
you're off the side, you needsome help whatever. You you put yourself

(03:43):
front insteader by making a music video. Yeah, I mean, there's so
many opportunity. Here's the thing thatI always like to think about is like
going going through and like thinking aboutthe decisions made along the way. So
how long must that have taken toput together? There were so many opportunities
to be like, you know what, we're just let's just not let's just
not do it right. This isnot something where like you make a snap

(04:05):
decision to start it and then youhave to follow through, right. It's
not something where you did it inone day, like you had multiple days
and each day I'd say, forlet's say it took two weeks. Okay,
not the greatest song of all time. Let's say it took two weeks.
Fourteenth straight days you woke up andwent to bed and you're like,
yep, I'm putting this out there. That's that is the thing that is

(04:27):
so concerning to me. What aday? What a day? I mean's
so much great. Twitter today waswas really on one and for it being
this much of the off season,it was great. I mean, we
had we had people crowning the ChicagoBears with the Caleb Williams throw All you
need is one. We had HardKnocks News, we had a thirty four

(04:48):
and oh, it's just been anincredible day. On top of all the
Darren Waller stuff. Yeah, bythe way, according to Waller, he's
this whole processing on February third,So this isn't like two weeks. God
has been going on for months.Oh my god. I mean, that
is just so sad. It's honestlyso sad. I look, I'm in

(05:11):
a happy relationship. I'm getting marriedin August, and congratulations, you know,
if thank you, and look iffor some reason something were to happen,
and yeah, obviously you know I'msitting there, I'm single, and
I'm I'm you know, sad.There is there's a bazillion things I would
do before I would even consider somethinglike that. It's honestly, it's incredible.

(05:34):
I don't know, man, Idon't know how to put it.
Into words. Well, here's somethingI hope that you can definitely put into
words with the NFLPA looking to finalizea proposal that would change the way that
the off season is conducted. Areyou a fan of the whole idea of
moving away from OTAs in favor formore training camp. Yeah. I was

(05:57):
gonna say, could they they putfor a rule on the off season about
whether you can release music videos becausethat would probably be a bigger issue.
But I think, you know, generally, I think yes, I think
OTAs are a little look. Ithink the positioning of them is it is

(06:21):
exciting, It gets fans a littleinvolved, It gives you a few clips
here and there, gets the teamtogether, and I think that's important.
But I'm not sure it contributes aton to you know, to play on
the field. I don't think it'sa huge deal either way. I'm very
pro player in these things, soI would really lean on, you know,

(06:42):
going to your your top players, the guys that are that are really
making the league worth watching, andsay, look, what do you guys
want and what's best for you guys, and trusting them as people that want
to be at the top of theirgame. And then and really trying to
acquiesce to that. I think beingas pro player on that stuff. Same
thing with the schedule, right likego eighteen games given two by weeks,
like anything you can do to getthe players in a better position to perform.

(07:04):
I am one hundred percent on boardwith talk with George Frory Pro Football
Focus. You know, it maynot be the visual poetry that was the
Darren Waller music video of which isright up there with things like cinematic achievements
like Citizen Kane and the music videofor the Thong song. But Hard Knocks
is going to feature the Chicago Bearsthis year? Is that is Hard Knocks

(07:27):
something people still anticipate And where theBears the right choice? I think the
Bears were one hundred percent the rightchoice. Now, look, I thought
last year it over promised and underdelivered. It was just a huge you
know, oh look, we're gonnahave to make up for Aaron Rodgers being
kind of mad about this and andreally, you know, give him the

(07:48):
full treatment. And it was itwas the glazing of the highest proportion.
But I think this is the rightmove because there's gonna be so much excitement
for Bear SAMs, everyone around theleague if you're a bear stand or not
has some sort of opinion on KaylebWilliams. So I think people will be

(08:09):
will be engaged and want to tunein to see that. And I think
it's good to have a younger teamlike I just as big as the star
as Aaron Rodgers is. I thinkgetting the younger generation into a little bit
more is exciting. I wish theyhad kind of a more interesting coaching staff,
you know, to be honest withyou, I just don't the flues
being loose is not is not gettingme too excited. So that's the only

(08:33):
kind of downside. But you know, for you have to pick a team
that's kind of on the on thecome up, and I think they're a
great one. All right, George, I have to ask you boy this
because I saw this a couple ofdays ago. According to Pro Football Focus,
they had the Broncos ranked as oneof the worst rosters in the league.
So I'm going to give you anopportunity to tell the audience as to

(08:54):
why. And then also with thatbeing said, are there any bright spots
to that ranking? The right thoughts? Well, you know, look,
I think what I would recommend isyou know, picking up a PFF subscription
PIF A plus subscription and you cansee the grating for all the players.
You can go look at the lineuppro post starting lineup and you can see

(09:16):
and you can compare it, andif there's an argument to be made,
you know, make it. Ithink the tough thing is you look kind
of across the board and how manyelite players are there, how many how
many very good players are there? There's just not a lot. And you
know, oftentimes we'll talk about teamswith really good rosters that don't have a

(09:37):
great quarterback, and you say yourself, Okay, well, you know,
how much do you want to knockthem for that? But this is one
of those situations where you just don'thave a very strong roster across the board
and not a great quarterback. SoI really do think this is rebuilding.
Look if boat Mix comes out andyou know, overperforms dramatically and you've got

(09:58):
you know, you've got to guythat's in the running for Rookie of the
Year, then a lot of theplayers around them are going to look better
and the team is going to bebetter. I think the tough thing is
that if it's the other way around, say he's a rookie, riety struggles
a little bit. I think it'sgonna you know, it's going to look
worse now. The one I thinkbright spot here would be you're in a

(10:18):
situation where expectations are going to benice and low, and sometimes you need
right. I think expectations for theBronx have been so high recently, and
of course they've underperformed them. So, you know, for for once,
I think maybe there'll be a littlemore reason and it'll give some guys,
you know, a little bit ofan opportunity to outshine what people think of
them. One of our texters suggeststhat Darren Waller had a missed opportunity here

(10:41):
to do the awesomest thing ever andgive Drew Locke the rap verse on his
thing that he deserved. Maybe we'llget that in the remix. Nationally,
the Broncos defense has been a bitremixed here. There's no Kjack though,
justin Simmons von Miller going a fewyears ago, as things different. Top
to miond, what is the nationalperspective before the Broncos defense, which has

(11:01):
been much vaunted over the last fewyears, is now Yeah, I don't
think there's going to be a lotof a lot of people worried about them.
I think there's going to be somecircling on the calendars. Look,
if you're thinking about you know, your your fantasy strike the schedule, right,
I think you're looking at the Broncosas an opportunity to put up put
up some points. And last yearthey did buckle down a little bit,

(11:24):
you know, in the second half. We talked about that a lot,
but they were not a good unitlast year. And to your point,
a lot of guys that you're usedto seeing are not going to be there
anymore. Look, I think paticSerutan maybe the best corner in the league,
you know, And it's going tobe kind of a bummer because I
don't think it's going to matter. One of the things, the secondary is
that you know, we've studied andpublished a lot of things about, is

(11:50):
that it's a week link system. So if you have weak links in it,
it doesn't really matter. If youhave a really strong guy there,
you're going to get you're gonna getcut up. And so look, I
think it's going to be it'll beagain to look on the bright side of
this, it's going to force theoffense to try and put up some points.
So I think you're going to seewhat some of these guys have because
if you're just gonna sit there andrun the ball the whole game, you're

(12:11):
gonna lose, you know, thirtypoints. So I think you'll have to
see a passing offense with you know, with Seohn Payton and bow Knicks surf
try and figure itself out. George, is it safe to say that while
twenty twenty four there may be alot of hurdles and challenges that the Broncos
have to endure because they're trying torevamp the team. They have a young

(12:33):
quarterback who's really inexperienced. That twentytwenty five is kind of that year for
them where we can see these rankingsand the Broncos jump higher than their thirty
second ranking. Yeah, I definitelythink it's a year or two out.
But remember, you know, therankings don't matter, right. It ultimately

(12:54):
is how you play on the field, and every year there's a couple of
things that surprise you. And youknow, if it were if it were
just about how people felt before theyear started, then you know, you
wouldn't have the Lions from a coupleof years ago. You wouldn't have the
Texans last year. There are alwayssome surprises, and you know, it

(13:16):
really comes down to the quarterback, and at least going into the next couple
of years, there's an unknown there, right. I think for the past
past years, I'm like, hey, we've got this guy that's kind of
washed out, you know, like, do you think he can turn around?
Here You've got a guy that's relativelyyoung, and you know, we'll
see maybe that that is the rightmix. And you know, there's there's

(13:37):
guys that trom Payton has gotten toa Hall of Fame level that people necessarily
didn't think would be you know, would be at that level. And I'm
obviously talking about Drew Brees. Sowe've seen it happen before, and so
I would be you know, it'simportant to be optimistic. I want to
give these guys a chance, butI do think in all likelihood it's a
couple of years out before you're backin trying to compete in playoffs, especially

(13:58):
with the AFC being trongto this.Well. George, our producer, just
got back from Ohio. He didnot do any skyline. Chilly was out
there so obviously saved a few yearson his life by doing so. But
as we know from following your recommendations, but we appreciate your time as always
and and look forward to getting thatWall or Drew Locke remix on the books
soon. Yeah, that is agreat call. Shout out to whoever that

(14:20):
was, well, maybe he canput it together for us. It was
on the text line, so we'lllead to three h three to to come
back with their their best production skillsto make this happen. George, we
appreciate it as always, will absolutelytake care. George Trury, Pro Football Focus
