Speaker 1 (00:00):
I've been with all brand, Nick Ferguson, Grant Smith here
with you five six sixt nine zero is the text line,
and I want to thank Steve.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Atwater for joining us in the last hour just a
new part of that.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
You go to brockcos Country dot com, slash podcast or
wherever gets your podcast, Apple iTunes, the free and redesigned

for Granted podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
When Grant decides to put episodes out plenty to catch
up on though, yeah, whole library. How many episodes do
you have of the the whole thing so far? Undred
and eighty two or something? There you go, plenty episodes
for everybody to catch.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Backlight episodes with you and Nick bothless. Yeah, and hopefully
one day Steve Atwater. But after I made fun of
his singing, I don't know if that will.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, I think you're on ice for a little bit there.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
He was genuinely surprised that you've been recording him singing.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
Now he knows how it feels to be watched by
big brother.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
We learned Nick and I learned a long time ago.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Grant always is always recording, always, never put something on
there You don't want to get embarrassed by UH.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Later, the Madden cover was announced Barkley recreating the hurdle.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
If you watch the video recreated the hurdle for the
cover there. Do you, first of all, do you believe
in the Madden Curse?

Speaker 4 (01:08):
No? I don't, Okay, I don't believe in I know
there are multiple people who believe in it. And that's
the one thing that kind of hypes up the release
of the Mad Game. Every single year, everyone's anticipated who's
going to be on the cover. And also that fan
base is watching with bated breadth because they believe in

(01:29):
the curse. And the way that I look at it, Ben,
is because it's a blessing to be on this cover. Yeah,
it is a bona fide blessing. And what happens as
the curse starts to build, to me on what the
states is that you had a phenomenal year the year before.
Now you're moving to whatever that second year, whatever it is,

(01:49):
and now your grace to cover. Now you're not taking
anyone by surprise. They know if you're a running back,
they're going to stack the box. If you're a quarterback,
they're gonna watch your film more and just figure out
what was some of the routes or areas of the
field that you were able to excel in and try
to take them away. Now, is there an element that

(02:09):
fees into it where guys have been injured, Yes, but
we all know injuries are part of the game, and
it just my chance you're on the cover you get injured.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Well, the whole idea, First of all, I don't believe
in the curse anyway, that's stupid. But the whole idea is,
if you're gonna be on the cover, you probably just
came off your most productive season, most productive I mean,
you're probably not gonna live up to that the next
year either way, right right, So you're more likely and
so that they could it naturally creates this environment in
which people can say, oh, there's a curse that productivity

(02:41):
drops off. Yeah, they just had a career season, which
is why they were on the cover to begin with.
But there were people like, for instance, of the Calvin
Johnson cover, he didn't have an injury or a down
season the next year. You know, there's been plenty of
players who had plenty of career left, plenty of great seasons,
no injuries whatever.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
All that kind of stuff. To me, that stupid. But
do you care about who's on the Madden cover?

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Yes, I care from this standpoint, the standpoint only being
as though I play with the Broncos five of my
ten years in the NFL and living here in Denver.
You know, there's a certain type of honor that you
have to say that you've been a part of the team,
you know, playing in playoff games, which blessed to play

(03:27):
here in Denver and then have that opportunity. But from
a Broncos fan, I mean, I'm excited about it, but
I'm also disappointed. And here's why, because when you look
at all the Madden covers, and you can correct me
I'm wrong, but there's never been a Broncos player on
the cover. When you look at the Titans, they've had

(03:47):
it twice, right, you look at the Baltimore Ravens, they've
had it twice. I mean twice an inception of the
I'm not deception, but the existence of the Madden video game,
only twice have they had two players don the cover.
We had Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, right, and then
you had Troy Paulamalo and Fitzgerald. After the Super Bowl right,

(04:11):
But who've never seen the Bronco if someone out there
and I don't have all the Mad games and all
the man covers in front of me, but I don't
think there's ever been a Broncos player to ever. Now
there's been a former Broncos player to do it, and
I think it was Peyton Hillis right when he was on.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
The cover first, so with the with the Browns.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Either way, he wasn't a member of the Dea of
Broncos when he graced the cover.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Correct.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
So I ask you, Ben, I know you play the
game a lot. What Bronco player could or would you
like to see grace the cover of med Well, like for.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Bonnicks to become the guy so he gets the cover, right, Okay,
I mean that that'd be.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Something you know, or Marvin this.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
I'd love to see Patzertan on there, obviously, you know
I don't. I've never cared who was on the cover.
I love the game, but I've never cared who was
on the cover. But if there was to be a
Bronco on the cover, I guess that I would In
that particular case, I would love to see like a
commemorative regional covers where you have like the Broncos, and

(05:11):
then you have like a.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Champ cover and like a like a TD cover and.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Maybe maybe a Nick completely for like like exclusive team covers,
like like regionally for that region, they they've got the
you know, they get that team or whatever. You know.
But that's tough because with so many great players, and
you know how fickle fans are, do they get my
player on the.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Cover, Steve Atwater on the cover?

Speaker 4 (05:33):
I mean, someone's gonna have beef with that because their
favorite player isn't on the cover, right, So so how
do you go about figuring that out?

Speaker 1 (05:40):
They could get some new hit stick stuff going on,
get a Nick Ferg on the cover. I'm just saying,
if they wanted to introduce a new feature where the
dB just runs away from the running back, they could
have been all right on the cover.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
I don't think. I don't think that game will say it.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Feels like a.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Feature that nobody's asking for. Introduce a gatorade table you
can find.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Oh yeah, only you grant me on the cover, flipping
the Gator bade Jo.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Flipping, you know, or like a cover that has like
four famous Broncos on it. You know, it's got like
an lay and out Water Special Route Mount Rushmore. Yeah,
something like that. God go for each team in each market.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
You know, I go work because fans are gonna say, well,
my favorite player. They's like, boy Little is a favorite
player of most mos.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
I don't think anybody that plays Madden's favorite players fid
Little because none of the world lies.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Again, but once again, it's not about the individuals playing.
It's the fact that say, okay, well, you're putting four
guys from the from the franchise right on the cover.
Some fan, even if they don't play it, they go
see it in the grocery store. They're gonna buy it
for their niece or nephew or grandson, and they're gonna
be pissed because their favorite player isn't on the cover.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Don't I mean maybe would do you think they would
be genuinely upset by that?

Speaker 2 (06:53):
I think there's yes, I could be some fans.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
I wish you've been around some of these fans.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Fair enough, I think.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
I mean, because like me, I feel like maybe if
the players that I had in my head didn't get
on there, they got all right.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
I'm a little disappointed, but it's not gonna affect me
one way or the other. But maybe it does, maybe
it doesn't.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
See, it's okay, all right, so you are a Broncos fan.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Well, I'm a football fan.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Okay, you are a football fan and that and that's
my very point. See, you are a football fan, you're
not a Broncos fanatic. That's entirely different.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
I want the.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Broncos to win because it makes it more fun when
I cover them.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
Well yeah, it also makes it fun when they cover,
so they cover your pockets too as well too.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
I wasn't even going there, but yes, but they generated
me wants them to win too.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
I bet on the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
I but I don't. I don't care, like I just don't,
you know. I mean, I want them to win. I
care about that, but other than that, I don't. I
don't really care about the rest of it.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
I say that Broncos fans should care in this regard
because when you look at the fact that this game
has been in existence for what almost twenty six years
and there's never been a Bronco on a cover, And
for me, I look at it, say, even though you
can throw the man curse in it, but it is
a distinctive honor that Only a handful of people could

(08:06):
ever say that they have been on the cover of Madden.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
I mean, it's it's an honor for the players. Don't
get me wrong. Yes, for me, Here's what I here's
what I hope happens. I hope the Broncos defense balls
out so hard this year that for the first time
they put a whole defense on the cover.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
That would be dope.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
You know, like, put the whole defense on the cover for.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Next year, that would be dope. Put everyone on the
defense on the cover. Now, now, if you're gonna do that, now,
here's what I would saying. You have Vance Joseph in
the center with all the players draped around it, Well,
you're gonna have to SHARE's no way.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
The head coach.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
Wait, you are changing the rules.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
You're changing the want the defensive players on the.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Said defensive players, right, So why not if you don't
have the defensive players, you know, there's no way Sean
Payton is letting his wait, why not putting the architect
of the defense on them. I'm for it. I'm just saying,
Sean Peyton will walk you.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
No way.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Sean Payton is like Joseph get to cover.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Of Mass before him, even though you're absolutely right, you know,
I know, I'm yes, You're absolutely right. There's no way
on God's green Earth that Sean Payton would allow Vance
Joseph to don a cover of mad Yes, there's only
been one coach to be on the cover, and he

(09:27):
was only cover twice. And it's the guy who.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
The game is not named after that, right, John Madden.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Yes, there's no way. I'm just saying, you're right, You're right,
You're right this, come on, man, Vance doesn't get a
lot of credit he should get.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
I'm just yes, in an ideal world, I'm with you
on that. I'm also saying in the real world, you
know there's no way.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
Well, how could you put the entire defense on or
suggest that, and you don't put the guy who was
the architect. I don't make it.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Say Hey, I'm again, I'm with you. I'm just I'm
just saying. Three and five.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Stacy from Utah says, this Broncos team is ron white
tater salad, loaded potato salad, potato salad.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
And now let me tell you something real quick. Ben.
I don't know if you know this, but in the
African American community, it was taught to us at a.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Very potato salad.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Well, you call it whatever you call it, potato salad,
whatever you want to call it. The idea is that
you don't eat everyone's potato salad. Now, some people put
relish in it, some people put mustard in it, some
people put miracle whip, some people put raisins in it.
I don't know what that's about.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
White people thinks.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
I've never had potato salad with raisins. I know, Grant
is from you know, up north, you know, in that Cincinnati,
Ohio area. Maybe they put raisins in their potato salad. Grant,
you've eaten potato salad before, right.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Yeah, But I'm a macaroni salad guy.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
Okay, macaroni salad. That's dope to have you ever had
a macaroni salad when someone put raises in it?

Speaker 2 (11:01):
No potato salad, you don't want raisins in it either.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
Yeah, I'm not. I'm not going back to that. That
person's home again. I'm sorry. I can't eat that.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
Yeah, it probably doesn't fit into Ben's diet either. Yeah,
I can't. I can't eat that right now. But like
I said earlier, again, my week, he'll be.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Back McDonald's McDonald's slugging down another coke. They yeah, yeah,
I don't know if you'll saw that, but the one
where Chadwick Boseman was on s n L and the
White Black Jeopardy or whatever, and that's where they that's
what they did that because he gets prompted with the
question about the Karen, a white friend who was bringing
her homemade potato salad to the black barbecue and uh

(11:40):
and then he.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
You know, goes into anyway. It's if you get a
chance to watch it, it's that one was pretty funny.
Tom Hanks's I believe on that one. Yeah, we don't,
we don't.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
I don't do that.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
A couple of questions in here about the Broncos potentially
signing JK. Dobbins again. They like him. I don't know
if they get it done. But tonight is more about
getting to know the person. You know, they're gonna go
out to dinner with JK. It's not about him as players,
by him as a person, which I think is one
of the key components to whomever they signed to be
the veteran voice in that room, right, you got to

(12:11):
be sold on JK. Dobbins, the person to be the
veteran voice in that room and set up for ever.
So I think that's what that's about tonight. I don't
know if we'll get a contract one. I don't know
if it is even if that'd be something you do
right away. But this is about feeling out the player
you're gonna put into the veteran you're gonna put in
that room.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
And so he's the first name up.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
Well, here's what I hope plays. And not to say
that the team has to do this or it would
be great if they do, Like talk to, you know,
one of those guys in the officive line who you
really respect, ask them, Hey, man, what do you think
about JK? Talk to maybe Evan Ingram even though he's
a fresh voice here, you get some fresh eyes. What

(12:49):
do you think Because having a guy like JK Dobbins
getting the Broncos run game on track, it actually benefits
Evan Ingram his stats and probably his contract as well.
But more importantly, ask Bo. Because Bo has been around
all the running backs on the roster except for RJ. Harvey,
who's just kind of coming and joining the team. He's
gotten to know him just a little. But hey, what

(13:11):
do you think about adding a guy like JK Dobbins.
What would that do for you? What are some of
the things that you like about what he does as
a running back? Then when you go into that meeting
and that dinner with JK, you could ask him some
certain questions, put him in some mental situations like, hey,
it's it's for down and we're run on the goal line.

(13:32):
What's kind of your favorite play and why?

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Yeah, I think there's an additional benefit here to poaching
a player that's played in the offense in the division.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Get some insight into what it is that they want
to do.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
You know, I think there's I think there's a little
bit of value in that as well, you know, kind
of getting insight into into Greg Romans offense and what
what Jim Harball wants to do and what he's doing
culturally there, and you can you can kind of maybe
get some insight into their defense too.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
You know what.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
That's a wild part about free agency because even if
the player doesn't sign with the team trying to pick
his brain little bit, they come in and they pick
your brain, right, they get all your all your nuggets
or whatever. And if you're trying to be in that
meeting and show them you can and you are a
team player. But at the same time, like it was

(14:19):
one of those things the same when I was a kid.
Why why about the cow when you can get the
milk for free?

Speaker 2 (14:24):
That's what.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
If I was in that room a free agent, you know,
and they want to pick my brain about that kind
of stuff, I'm like, well, sign me in, let's find out.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
I'll sign man.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
I'll tell you, you know, until we sign on that
dotted line, those state secrets and state.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
Secrets, state secrets. I mean, that's fair game. But some
individuals who are doing the evaluation, they may not feel
that same way. They may feel as, Okay, well this player,
by him, I'm being unwilling to give us information when
he's not technically on our roster under contract. They look
at it as being somewhat of a poor thing, like, oh,

(14:55):
he's got character issue.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
No, I got integrity, yes exactly, you know when I'm
all we're on the same team, I got you, but
we're not right now. The two on four points out
that Sean Payton doesn't even post for his own.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Photo in Madden.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
He doesn't show up as a head coach, so he
probably wouldn't want to be on the cover.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
Nah, he's gonna want to be on the cover on
there though.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Yeah, real quick, before you at the break seven to two, O, fellows,
how do you order your steaks?

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Steak, sauce, ketchup?

Speaker 5 (15:19):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (15:20):
No? That means the steak's no.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
Good only if you get it medium? Well, like Nick,
you gotta have some sauce. If you're ordering the steak
anything more than medium, you're wrong. And even medium is
too much.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
It's kind of cooking in garlic butter. Yeah, garlic and
time butter. Yes, that's what you do.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
If you're cooking the steak right and seasoning the steak right,
you don't need the steak sauce. That steak, sauce and
ketchup is the one the season he wasn't done right?

Speaker 4 (15:40):
Well, lo Ki years ago, I used to put high
as fifty seven on my steak.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Oh God, did you go to steakhouse and do that?

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Uh? No, No, I've done it. I've done it in
the team set it okay, you're setting all right?

Speaker 2 (15:52):
All right, we gotta hit a break. We come back
rom the beans. Gonna join a sproncos country tonight.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
So had Bronco's country to now I benge within all
Brian Dick Ferguson here with you five six sixty nine
zero is the text line.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
The SEB one nine did want to point out that
Terrell Davis was on the cover of Game Day, the
NFL Game Day for PlayStation back in nineteen.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Ninety eight, so that out it's not Madden talked about
the cover of game Day.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Yes, so it wasn't any because game it was like
the number three football game.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
It was two k remember when two you.

Speaker 7 (16:23):
Know they had a two days of a football game,
not just basketball.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Yeah, that Madden has that exclusive place. You can't forget
about NFL Blitz.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
Let's that's another NFL street. That's almost like.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Saying NFL Street, what a game you want.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
To cover of the video game Double Dribble? Yeah? Not
same thing?

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Yeah right, any same thing at all. We're going to
see k Wait Common Spirit up.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
Hot.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Well, I didn't bring on a good Friend romy Bean
from CBS for ROMI How you doing?

Speaker 6 (16:47):
Oh two good friends washing the Stanley cut sad ye
learned in it?

Speaker 5 (16:51):
But you know what, all right?

Speaker 4 (16:52):
The same here?

Speaker 1 (16:54):
You know I was on Florida and the under Florida's winning,
but the under it looked like it was in danger
early as the score has been out of control.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
See if right now I'm still safe? Oh I just
said that. I said safe.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
I say, okay, we're good, I say for now, but
I may not be safe overall.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
I wanted to talk to you about this past Monday.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
You got a chance to sit down with new Nuggets
head coach David Adelman.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
How was How was that?

Speaker 4 (17:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (17:20):
He was fantastic. I was surprised that he was down
to do it, but you know, you got to catch
him early. No, but but he was. He was fantastic.
He was super gracious with his time, and it was
one of those things, you know, it was informationally, very dense.
I can tell what a smart guy he is. But
I think that what kind of continues to stand out
to me about David Adelman is how ready for the
job he is And didn't really matter kind of what

(17:43):
question I asked him, he knew the answer right away,
and he really has a plan and a well thought
out plan. And and what's he going to do with
a GM he does or doesn't know? And that might
have been my favorite answer because he said that what
we really understand with in sports, But he's like sports,
He's not about being you know, you're not going to
break red with this guy. It's about being aligned philosophically.

(18:05):
That one. I love to danceer on that and his
plan for you know, Yo Kich, Jamal the bench, and
I just think he he wants, he understands where the
Nuggets are right now. They're not the young team in
the West anymore, and the West there's all these young
team around them. So it's about what can he do
now to get the best out of a Nuggets team
that is.

Speaker 6 (18:25):
Is older and you can't rely on kind of the
laurels that got you.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
There a couple of years ago. So I'm excited for
what he can do with a full season. And I
was just really impressed with his takeaways kind of on
everything and his plan for the season.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
Well, Romie, I've been impressed with Elderman's kind of stepping
in for a coach Malone and in that tough situation.
But in your interview, did you have an opportunity to
really go over the with the love with personnel And
I mean you talk about Jokich and the fact that
this team is not being they're not a young team anymore.
But what is it going to take to not just

(18:59):
get them back to a Western Conference final, but just
trying to get to bring another title back to Denner
And what's that going to look like an offseason from
a personnel standpoint. Did he get into any of that with.

Speaker 6 (19:11):
You doing an interview, you know, not necessarily specifics in
regards to, yeah, we got to bring someone in from
the bench, He kind of, you know, said, I think
the front office will.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Be creative, so I do think they're gonna look. But
he also, you know, talking about the young guys. Are
there young guys on this roster, Cannon, Julian Strawther, step up,
Kenna Payton, Watson, you know, step up. And he really
put the onus on those those guys, and you know,
he said, it's on them. And at the end of
the day, it's a want to. It's how they come back,
and it's how the veterans. He also talked about the

(19:43):
veteran leadership and the veteran players, and one thing that
kind of stood out to me, I ask want to
challenge for Jamal Marius, and he said he wants Jamal
to come and have a much faster start and a
hotter starts this season, we've all seen how Jamal kind
of likes to work his way into shape, and he
kind of said he wants these guys to come in.

Speaker 6 (20:00):
In a little bit more game shape, right as opposed to.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
Working their way into the shape as the season goes on.
I thought that was refreshing. I know that a lot
of fans get frustrated. Would you see Jamal throughout the
season kind of taking that time.

Speaker 6 (20:11):
To condition himself, if you.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
Will, in the game shape. So him outright saying yeah,
he wants to see a faster start from Jamal. I
thought that was probably refreshing and probably good music to
trans ears. And then you know, like you in general,
you're going to get the generic. I think we have
what we need in the building, but he definitely didn't
discount that they wouldn't be going and be looking for

(20:33):
some creative ways to bring in some players as well.
Again not super specific.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
But.

Speaker 5 (20:41):
You know, alluded the look, but also I'm going to
see what your young cats can do.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
That vine from CBS roly the history of interim coaches
succeeding in getting the permanent job and then succeeding in
the NFL has been spectacularly poor in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
I'm trying to think of examples.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
So obviously Greg Popovich who named himself interim coach and
then head coach of the Spurs, and that worked out.
What's what does Addleman possess that is going to make
him successful in the NBA.

Speaker 5 (21:13):
I think one of the biggest things is this team
has really bought into him. And at the end of
the day, right, it's one thing if you're coaching, you know,
college or high school, but what these NBA players are
making you have to have a guy that guy can
rally behind, and they really buy into DA's message and
to what he's selling and what he can do. They

(21:33):
trust him because he's been with him for a long time.
A guy like Eric Gordon was with him in Orlando
as well, So I think that's a significant piece.

Speaker 6 (21:41):
I also think, you know.

Speaker 5 (21:42):
He's not coming in saying, you know, I'm gonna I'm
gonna throw over the Apple card. We're gonna change everything.
And I think that his older veterans.

Speaker 6 (21:51):
Really appreciate that, where he's open to.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
Their feedback, but he kind of said to me, you know,
getting back into doing what they do best and relying
on their basketball, like to you, and really making it
a possession by possession game. You know, his kind of
whole theory is all things that the Nuggets can do
to win a championship. Again, right, it's not this like
crazy outlandish idea, but it is fresh blood. And he
did say, you know, it's hard. You've got to make

(22:15):
some changes and personnel, staff changes, and he does want
to bring in fresh blood and kind of have a
little bit more excitement, a little more challenge you guys
in their choes a little bit. But at the end
of the day, he's not coming in here and guys
feeling like, you know, their jobs are in jeopardy because
he wants to throw the whole thing apart, the apple
card apart. It's really calm in every situation, and I

(22:37):
just think that's huge to kind of be the opposite
of a hot head in the day and age. I
think a lot of coaches have success in that, and
I think that is one of the things that really
stand out to me the most is just his mentality,
his demeanor and a guy that you feel like, after
I was sitting there talking with him, I'm like, I
get it right. So he's so smart about the game,
but he's also got a lot of really good emotional intelligence.

(22:59):
Well see how this is a guy who really resonates
with his players and he's authentic, he's not fake, and
that's huge in the sand age.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
Well, you talk about mentality, that's something that the Broncos
have been trying to focus on it. And that mean
meaning the mentality of showing that you can run the
ball consistently, especially when other teams know you're going to
run the ball. Now, JK. Dobbins is in town. I
don't know if he's going to leave town with the deal.
I'm hoping that he does, and he's at practice tomorrow.

(23:29):
But what do you think about the Broncos possibly adding JK.
Dobbins to their running back room?

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (23:37):
I love this. I mean, obviously he does come with
an extensive injury history, which is always a question. I mean,
you know, any misgaved last season, but he still had
nine hundred plus yards and what was it, nine rushing touchdowns.
I think it adds a really dynamic piece. It does,
you know, add a little bit of.

Speaker 6 (23:53):
A question mark, all right.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
You know last year Champagne talked a lot with you know,
the receivers, getting everybody their opportunities, and you look at that, Okay,
what does this mean for the wide receiver room? Is
there a message to someone? Is this you know, Audrick estimate?

Speaker 6 (24:09):
What kind of how where does he fit in?

Speaker 5 (24:12):
Because obviously you bring in R. J. Harvey as well,
so I think it creates a curious dynamic. But he's
certainly a dynamic ballplayer, and I think bullyball, you can
play bullyball. If you can help support bow by playing
some of that, that's fantastic.

Speaker 6 (24:25):
This guy would be a great asset.

Speaker 5 (24:27):
And brings him a really dynamic piece. So I'm all
for it.

Speaker 6 (24:30):
But I do think it's interesting to see how what
does that mean?

Speaker 5 (24:32):
How is it going to play out? I mean, even
last year they kind of all were fighting for touches,
so that would certainly make it interesting.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Tyler Roby Bean from CBS Robbie the Broncos are having
dinner with JK.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
Dobbins tonight.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
Some are long time rumored that the Broncos would have
free agent interest in him. We know they want to
add a veteran voice to that room. Does the name JK.
Dobbins excite you at all as an addition to the
Denver broncos it does.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
Wait, Nick not asked me about JK. Dowad you just
meb with somebody else.

Speaker 2 (24:59):
Well, I mean, overall, does it excit something?

Speaker 6 (25:02):
I just thought?

Speaker 5 (25:03):
Did I miss it here the first question?

Speaker 4 (25:05):
No?

Speaker 2 (25:05):
No, no, no no. I'm trying to build off that.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
I'm trying to build off that the person they're out
to dinner with him, they're trying to do all this
kind of stuff. Is having somebody from a from a
division opponent.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
He's having that in the room exciting to you.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
Well, I think before I interrupted you the first time
the word veteran presence was it was the big kind
of buzzword, bingo word for me. When you look at
this is a really young room and if you look
at Adric Estimate, second year, R. J. Harvey, first year
dalil Is, I mean that's that's a really young room.

(25:41):
So I love the idea of having a veteran presence
in there. I think that's that's fantastic. And that's kind
of the biggest thing that stands out to me about JK.
Dobbins as well as you know his ability to make
really big plays and we've seen what he's done against
the Broncos. And of course it's always fun to get
somebody in from the division. That's always fun too. But
it is a veteran presence I think is huge. That

(26:01):
room certainly needs, I think a big veteran presence, and
that's a big buzz word for me.

Speaker 4 (26:07):
Well, I will be remiss if I did not ask
you this question. It may not seem as though it
is Denver oriented per se, but it is coming by
way of coach Malone. Even though we know Tom Thibodeau
is out in New York, and I still think that
that is crazy that they fired him. I can't help
but think that of what would Michael Malone and his

(26:30):
ability to coach, how would that kind of manifest and
work in New York with the Knicks. Do you think
that that would be a perfect match, And if so,
how do you think that he would fare with the
players they have on their roster.

Speaker 6 (26:45):
Yeah, I mean that's funny.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
First of all, I agree with you cannot believe that
they fired Tibbodeau. But to each his own, but I
think Michael Malon would be a perfect fit. You know,
he's you know, going back home New York kid. I
think he'd be for him to handle that media as well.
I know that kind of seems like a why are
you bringing that up? But in those markets that's a
big thing, and I think that Michael Malone. The thing

(27:10):
with Michael Malone here is m Michael Malone's a fantastic coach.
A lot of times, that kind of.

Speaker 6 (27:16):
The clock on coaches sometimes runs out in.

Speaker 5 (27:19):
Pros like I alluded to earlier, with these guys making
so much money, and even if it's a good message,
they get tired of hearing the same message in the
same way. And it's a rarity in the day and
age that we see coaches hang around for a long time.
I think his style and kind of his kind of
gruff coaching style, a little bit of very tough love,
would fit really well there and would really fit well

(27:40):
in New York. And he'd be good in that pressure. Kreger,
I think he understands it and that wouldn't be anything
that would.

Speaker 7 (27:45):
Be too much for him deal Failing all that, do
you think that, I mean the names that have been
suggested for the Knick so far that we've heard Malone,
Jeff and Gunny and then John Calipari, I think is
probably the most surprising name of the three.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
But do you think Nuggets fans would like to see
Mike Malone back in the NBA's.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Head coach or do you think that they would be
adamantly against seeing you know him and coaching a different team.

Speaker 5 (28:09):
Oh, I think based on how angry fans got about
him calling Shaye Gills with Alexander the MVP, they'd probably
be upset, you know, And then you know, all love
to fans, but fans are supposed to be really, really emotional,
so I don't know. I don't think they'd love it.
The fact that he's playing in a different conference, I
think would get kind of takes this thing off. And

(28:30):
then the first time they play him, you know, but
I think fans are angry right now. They were angry
about some of the things she said when he was
moonlighting as a sportscaster on ESPN, which I had no
issue with anything he said. I think he did a
great job, So you know, I think it gets they'd
be a little upset, but it's not as that big
of a deal when you're playing a team that you

(28:50):
don't see that often, and that is in a different conference.

Speaker 4 (28:54):
Robbie, I know you're going to be at OTA's practice
tomorrow and we don't really get that much time to
really see that as usually on a Thursday.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Is there anything in.

Speaker 4 (29:02):
Particular that you've seen so far that you're excited about,
or maybe something tomorrow that you want to see that
maybe really excites you in the way that you haven't
been thus far, you know.

Speaker 5 (29:14):
I think the biggest thing is looking at bo Nix
in year two and thinking back to.

Speaker 6 (29:18):
This time last year and he's just like, I.

Speaker 5 (29:21):
Don't want to say deer in the headlights, right, but
head spinning a little bit, and he's just trying to
take in the playbook and there's another quarterback, not necessarily competition,
but there's the three of them taking turns. And to
see the way that you know, he comes in this
year and it's a totally different story, and he's really
coaching up all the guys and he's so vocal out there.
I think you couldn't ask for anything more right now,

(29:42):
that's exactly what you want to see. But to see
him really step so comfortably into that role, to feel
so much more comfortable in year two.

Speaker 6 (29:49):
And to think, oh, wow, well you can start.

Speaker 5 (29:51):
The year at this point and you look at what
they did last year where he was starting from quite
literally square one, where they're starting now. To be at
this point gives you a lot of excitement for what
can continue to progress as the season goes.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Last one for me romy break out the Broom Rockies
got a sweep of the Miami Marlins. Of course, you
look ahead at the schedule. The next nine games they
probably lose, but we're up to twelve wins on the season.
How high do you think these Rockies can get?

Speaker 5 (30:19):
Don't call a comeback? Huh.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
You know.

Speaker 6 (30:21):
I was really funny because.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
It's just been such a bad season that I was
so excited yesterday and today just like, oh my gosh,
and then I think, man today to be at Marlin.
But at the end of day, I'm happy for for
the guys. You gotta think that is tough, man. You
play one hundred and sixty two games and this early
in the season to when they were nine and fifty.
I mean, that's just brutal as to come into work

(30:44):
every single day. So I think it's great. I think
there's you know, there's so many things wrong with the
Rockies and it goes so deep down into their farm system.

Speaker 6 (30:52):
You know there's no quick fix, but to.

Speaker 5 (30:55):
See them get some life.

Speaker 6 (30:56):
You're happy for them and hope they can.

Speaker 5 (30:58):
You know, Hey, it's gonna be a long run to
get to the wild Curt, but why.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
Not love it?

Speaker 1 (31:05):
Roam me from CBS. Roaby Bean from CBS. We appreciate
your time as always.

Speaker 5 (31:09):
You guys are the best. And I'm so sorry I
got confused in the middle.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
It's my bad. I set you up for that question.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
Weird.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
I should have phrased it better. It's been a long day.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
I've done like marathon radio today. Take care Robbie Bean,
CBS always love having her on. We got to hit
a break, we come back. Nick's gonna talk about disrespect
named at the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
This is Broncos Country nine Ka
