(00:23):
gonna try and get that fixed foryou guys, and I apologize again about
the technical snaffoos. It was probablysomehow my fault, so we'll see if
we can get that fixed. Julyeleventh, next full live show. Nick
Ferguson'll be back. Nick texted me, gosh, what was it Monday?
I guess it was, and waswas lamenting that he'd been to the deli
(00:46):
and someone asked if he's it onKOA anymore because it's it's been so long
as you been on. But thishappens a little bit during the summer.
Show gets a little bit disjointed. But you can always get it on the
podcast or on the stream on thepodcast It's Bracos Country Night, dot Com,
slash podcast or Apple iTunes, Spotify, iHeartRadio, app, wh wherever
(01:07):
you get your wherever you get yourpodcast, you can always get it there
and again, sorry about yesterday. We'll get that squared away for you guys.
There are a couple of stories thatI want to get to we get
the chance. First of all,I want to get the Falcon story.
Drake London talking about wanting to playfast, and that's something that everybody talks
(01:30):
about. Everybody sort of talks aboutthat, you know, in the league.
But that doesn't necessarily mean getting theplay off with fifteen seconds left on
the play clock. What that meansis getting to the line quickly and not
allowing substitutions, you know, andupping. Upping the pace offensively allows you
(01:53):
if you can get some early, easy first downs to sort of gas your
your opponent. Now we saw whathappened with NFL roster limits and game day
active limits when Chip Kelly tried todo that, is that his he gassed
his own defense having him out thereso much, and the offense was too
fast, and that presents a problem. But you know, Drake London came
(02:15):
out, it's going to be acouple months before we see obviously the Falcons
really fully deploy the offense that offensivecoordinator Zach Robinson has been installing since he
was hired early this year, buta picture of what the offense will look
like has sort of started coming intofocus. Head coach Rahim Morris has promised
a heavy workload for running back BejeonRobinson and expressed the desires see more from
tight end Klepits and wide receive WithDrake London, London has eyes on the
(02:38):
lead of his own all that,of course, is going to be tied
to a full recovery from a tornachilles by quarterback Kirk Cousins. But according
to Drake London, it's going tohappen to you know, kind of warp
speed. He says, it's justthe type of play style we're trying to
play. It's really really fast. You've got to be in condition. I
think speed is a killer in thisgame. If you have it, you
(02:59):
can win a lot of things.London said that via the Atlanta Falcons dot
com, upping the pace offensively wouldmark a pretty big change what the Falcons
did under Arthur Smith the last twoyears. Uh and you know, a
corresponding scoring pace. If they donot just play fast, but alsill score
fast, that that will help theirchances in making the postseason. For the
(03:20):
first time in a while. Iyou know, for the fantasy footballers out
there, I went ahead and andmade the move on Bjon Robinson because I
think he'll be doing well in theoffense. Zach Robinson is a data guy,
and it's interesting because he worked forPro Football Focus for a while before
getting into coaching, and it's sortof gonna be interesting to see what the
offense that he rolls out here underRaheem Mars looks like. So, you
(03:43):
know, I am fascinated to seewhat it looks like. I liked Arthur
Smith's offense even if fantasy football ownersdidn't, But it'll be it'll be interesting
to sort of see what what they'reable to do with it and how they
change, how they change things up, and if they go up tempo,
if that if that war, ifthey're able to find a way to go
up tempa without gassing their own defense. As we alluded to with the Chip
(04:04):
Kelly thing, the Chargers haven't wonas much as they would like since they've
been drafted quarterback Justin Herbert, butthey've got head coach Jim Harbaugh in there
now, who's won everywhere he's been. Harball hired Greg Roman as the team's
offensive coordinator, and the team spentthe off season program working on a new
(04:24):
offensive scheme. It's a system thatcenter Bradley Boseman knows from his time with
Greg Roman in Baltimore, and asone of the reasons he was drawn to
siding with the Chargers as a freeagent this offseason. Boseman's prior knowledge of
what Roman wants to do helps makehim a good judge of how much Herbert
is taking to the offense, andhe gave a pretty positive review where his
new teammate his head in the trainingcamp, saying, quote, he acts
(04:46):
like he's been in the system forten years. He dives so deep into
the system he knew it so wellbefore anyone else can even grasp it.
It's been impressive to see him putpeople in the right positions and elevate the
people around him. Chargers have alsobeen a big changes at receiver and running
back since the end of last season, so Herbert will be familiarizing himself a
lot of new things over the comingmonths, but it is uh remains to
(05:08):
be seen what the product looks likeon the field. A justin Herbert with
a with a mastery of an offenseand the coaching staff that the Chargers figure
to have now or do have now. I guess should scare Broncos fans.
The Chargers have been kind of thepunching bag of the division for the Broncos
for the last couple of years, and that figures to sort of go away.
(05:32):
Uh. The the Broncos got thechief streak off their back last year,
but still have that ridiculous streak oflosing to the Raiders. They've never
beaten the Raiders since they've been theLas Vegas Raiders. The last time they
beat them there the Oakland Raiders.Uh, so you gotta do something about
that. And then the Chargers, you know, keeping pace with them is
is got to be got to beinteresting and tough, and it's gonna be
(05:53):
interesting to see how you know, this this new this new offense looks.
This is the first real more traditionalpasser that Greg Roman has had a lot
of mobile guys to Rod Taylor andyou know, Lamar Jackson all that kind
of stuff. So it's going tobe interesting to see how he modifies his
(06:13):
offense for somebody that is a littlebit more of a traditional drop back guy
like Justin Erbert, not that Herbertdoesn't have mobility, but being a traditional
drop back guy is more his thing, and then using his mobility to buy
time versus like Lamar Jackson, whowas using it to the kind of accentuate
the offense. I'll be see interestingto see how that goes. One other
(06:36):
story I want to get to it'skind of out there. Former NFL running
back Marshawn Lynch is trying something alittle bit different and not the world of
sports. Marshawn Lynch and California GovernorGavin Newsome are going to host a new
podcast along with agent Doug Hendrickson calledPolitiken, which debuts in twelve days on
(06:58):
July fifteenth. The press release saysthat Gavin Newsom like you've never heard him,
and Marshall Lynch exactly how you'd expecthim. It remains to be seeing
hew long Newsom will be able todo the podcast. He may wind up
being the Democratic Party nominee if JoeBiden were to drop out for the office
US President. It's sort of aweird intersection here. You figure like Marshawn
(07:24):
Lynch has some interesting opinions that probablygive you a chance to sort of dive
into one of the more interesting mindsout there. But Gavin Newsom is is
an experienced politician. I doubt you'regoing to get him to drop his guard
and really give you anything. DougHendrickson has been friends with Gavin Newsom for
thirty years and is Marshall Lynch's agent, so that's the connection between the two,
(07:46):
and he's the third wheel on theshow. I'm interested to see how
this one goes. I will probablylisten to this one simply because this I'm
curious about this intersection and exactly whatit is that this thing that they're trying
to do is and what they allget out of it. On Lynch trying
something new is not surprising. GavinNewsome, what he gets out of this,
I couldn't begin to understand. DougHenrickson. It's name recognition, which
(08:07):
is an agent is everything. Butyou know, the Gavin Newso portion of
this is interesting because what does heget out of this? You know,
what does he get out of doinga podcast where he's putting on tape things
that he'll you know, opposition research, will probably force him to defend quotes
and things like that. Later. You can't make any jokes because people will
turn those jokes seriously. I justdon't understand how long will you even be
(08:28):
able to do this? I mean, if he runs, if if Biden
does drop out and he runs,he won't be able to do it.
If if he doesn't run this year, inevitably he probably will, and so
that would take time away from this. I don't really I guess I don't
understand what he gets out of this, and so I'll sort of be listening
to see if he gets into anything, gets into the weeds on anything,
sort of explains things that maybe regularfolks don't understand. There's a lot of
(08:52):
things that I've noticed in political discussionthat, you know, the average person
has an assumption of something, andand oftentimes that assumption turns out to be
wrong. There are reasons behind that. So if he's able to get in
and delineate some of that stuff,I'd be happy to continue to listen to
that. I don't just want somekind of generic thing where he's sitting there,
smarty and you know, and doingtalking points that doesn't really make a
(09:16):
lot of sense. So I wouldbe interesting to see that. And I
say when I say the average person, I'm including myself. There have been
assumptions I've made at times on things, and then had someone who's done the
job explained it to me, I'mlike, okay, now I understand why
you're coming at it from that position. So regardless of where you follow in
the political spectrum, with Marshaun Lynchon there, it should at least be
entertaining. Speaking of entertaining, themedia coverage of the Sunday ticket trial against
(09:41):
the NFL has not exactly been verywidespread, and everybody seems to downplay the
potential liability for the league. League'sloss has widely been described as a four
point sixty nine six billion dollar lossat trial. It's not. It could
be fourteen point zero eight eight billion. The moment the judge is the judgment
(10:03):
is entered, the amount will betripled given the long standing requirements of anti
trust law. So unless the judgethrows the case out, and he conceivably
still could, four point six nineto six billion would become fourteen point eight
eight billion via the law and theand the triplicate of anti trust judgment.
So the NFL could still win onappeal. The worst case scenario isn't nearly
(10:28):
four point seven it's it's fourteen though, and that's along with pre judgment interest,
post judgment interest, attorney's fees,et cetera, et cetera. This
has been a nine year trial,so there will be additional things in there.
That said, this doesn't seem tobe getting a lot of run.
It's almost as if the public atlarge doesn't think that that the NFL is
(10:54):
going to wind up paying anything outas I you know, as the coverde
on social media seems rather jaded andjust kind of a throwaway comment about the
number, and that's that's sort ofit. So, you know, it's
fascinating to see what gets covered, what gets picked out with picks up steam.
What doesn't you know? We spenttwo weeks talking about Hawktua and we're
(11:15):
not ten at any time talking aboutthe NFL possibly shelling out fourteen plus billion
dollars in penalties for very obviously sortof rigging the Sunday ticket price packaging to
price gouage consumers. Green Bay PackersNews. Josh Jacobs, the former Raiders
running back, says Jordan Love isgoing to be the next superstar in this
league. After sitting behind Aaron Rodgersfor three seasons. Quarterback Jordan Love excelled
(11:41):
in his first chance to be fulltime starter in twenty twenty three with the
Packers to a playoff birth along thepostseason victory, and set himself up for
a significant contract extension sooner than later. Veteran running back Josh Jacobs, who
signed with Green Bay in free agency, said in an interview with the NFL
Network on Tuesday that he's observes inspecial qualities in the quarterback saying, quote
(12:01):
to me, just from what I'veseen, he has all the traits and
all the tools to be a superstarin this league. I think that as
he keeps continuing to play and getsexperienced and becomes more confident in his abilities
and what he can do, isgoing to be the next superstar in this
league for sure. Love finished thetwenty twenty three regular season with sixty four
point two percent completion percentage over fourthousand yards, thirty two touchdowns eleven picks.
(12:24):
His last eight starts were really theimpressive ones, as he completed seventy
percent of his throws twenty one hundredyards eighteen touchdowns from one interception, leading
Green BAYO was six and two recordin that span. Prior to that,
obviously, you can do the mathon on things, but it was not
quite as impressive. We all said, as a matter of fact, midway
(12:46):
through the season kind of look likea bust and then all of a sudden
turned it on. So it'll beyou know, Green Bay is very young
on offense, and so you knowthese receivers, as this offense grows up
around him, it's going to benice to sort of see. He'll get
a chance to see. I alwaysI hesitate the annoying to the quarterback after
one season, because you know, teams get tape on you for an offseason
(13:07):
to kind of study it, andthey start to trade notes back and forth,
and you can start to see whethera guy in his second year is
really what he was in a oneyear wonder or if he's more somebody who
just kind of had a flash inthe pan run until somebody solved it.
I remember Nick Foles with the Eaglesfor instance, that sort of that sort
of set up. So a lotof us currently slated to be a free
(13:31):
agent in March of twenty twenty five, and the Packers and Love of both
signaled a desire to reach an agreementon a contract extension before the beginning of
training camp later this month. Thereare five first rounders still unsigned in the
NFL draft. Amrius Mims, who'sthe eighteenth pick, went to the Bengals.
(13:52):
He's a tackle. Roma Doonesa andCaleb Williams, both the Bears picks,
Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy and edge rusherDallas Turner. All we'll have fully
guaranteed four year deals. The dollarvalue is slotted based on the selection number,
so there's really not a whole lotof room for haggling here. People
(14:15):
always ask what it is that whypeople aren't signed by this if they're slotted,
and there's really three reasons for that. Signing bonus cash flow, which
is how much of the signing bonusis paid up front, how much is
deferred, how long. Most playerswant the money upfront. Most players want
the money as quickly as possible. Some teams try to push it out with
(14:37):
your rookie deal, getting it upfront, it's not hurting it at all.
I've always said that with your secondand third deal, especially if it's a
longer deal, if you could pushthe bonus cash to the back end of
it, it's guaranteed money. Itmakes it more difficult to cut you and
so it gives you better job security, you know, having those kinds of
things. The second thing is theavoiding of guarantees, which is what will
(14:58):
it take to a lot of teamwipe out the remaining guarantees. There have
been issues in the past about suspensionsfor certain on field infractions. Players want
to limit the team's ability to unguaranteeguaranteed cash obviously, and teams for further
the flexibility to get out from undera bad deal or a bad person that
they I guess would have improperly scouted. And then the third thing is guarantee
(15:20):
offsets. So if the players arereleased with guaranteed money left, will earnings
elsewhere reduced the money owed. Playersobviously want to double dip. Team wants
to get credit for salary from thenew NFL franchise. So you know,
really there's there's not really any reasonfor a draft pick not to be signed
at this point. All players shouldinsist on getting their deals before even getting
(15:43):
on the practice field because of thelive you know, injuryliabilities and all that
kind of stuff. But you wantthe complete full four year protection rather than
you know, kind of a rookiewaiver type deal. So I think that
you'll continue to see most picks getsigned early and these partic get The case
is with Kayleb Williams and those kindof guys, You're you're just gonna see
(16:03):
fully guaranteed deals with full offsets andyou know, and no chance for the
team to unguarantee anything. That's that'sreally what it is. Mims, who
has an injury history, probably wantssome extra protection for himself and there while
the team's probably haggling over that alittle bit, so that that's probably why.
But yeah, five picks from thefirst round of out of the thirty
two total still unsigned at this point, and that's you know, I mean,
(16:27):
you've still got plenty of time.Obviously, training camp kicks off for
most teams here in about three weeks, so you still got plenty of time
on that kind of stuff. Youguys are listening to Broncos Country tonight.
I'm Benjamin Albright. Michael Coover isback there producing tonight five six six nine
zeros text line. You guys wantto get involved in the conversation. Got
to pay some bills, but we'llbe back right here on KOA ninety FOURFLM
(16:51):
News Talk Sports welcome back to it. Broncos Country Tonight. Benjamin Albright here
with you. Short show again tonightpost Rocky programming. Note the next two
nights here on KOA, we'll haveko Holiday programming for the fourth of July
in addition to any Rockies games andall that kind of stuff, So there'll
be no Broncos Country Tonight on Thursdayor Friday. Broncos Country Night will return
(17:15):
on Monday. The next full threehour live show will be on July eleventh.
Uh, Mike Nick Ferguson will beback for that, for those of
you who keep asking, he willbe back for that. So there's Nick
is not gone or anything like that. He just took a couple of days
(17:36):
off and during the summer when yougot Rockies games going on, we're just
frankly not on the air that much. So looking forward to getting back in
the swing of things. We've gottraining camp coming up here in a couple
of weeks at the end of themonth. Looking forward to seeing you guys
out there, looking forward to uhgetting uh this this Broncos season underway,
(17:56):
seeing what what bo Nix is,The Rust Wilson Arrah obviously over here in
Denver, the Sean Payton era nowfully fully Sean Payton's team, and a
lot of talk about bow Nicks. You look at the Vegas betting odds and
he's the prohibitive favorite to be takingthe first snap on on Game one.
You look at you look at theodds for Jarrett Stidham, and I'm not
(18:21):
sure what they are right now,and I think they were like plus four
fifty, which I took a flyeron just just because if bo happens to
not take the job, then thenthere you go plus four fifty odds.
It's pretty good, you know. That's said. The team is setting this
thing up for Nicks the same waythat Pat Sherman and Vic Fangio set it
(18:42):
up for Teddy Bridgewater when when hewas here, there was a competition between
he and Drew Locke. And Ithink I've said this often, but if
if you watch that competition that wasthere every day, you kind of came
away confirming whatever your priors were. You know, I thought they should have
started lock in one more year andseeing what if they could develop him in
(19:04):
anything. You know. Obviously theywent with Teddy Bridgewater and that really didn't
turn into much. But I youknow, I'm always in those particular situations
get a bank on youth. Now, the coaching staff felt like they needed
a veteran because they felt like theyneeded to win now and couldn't couldn't waste
(19:26):
the time developing or trying to developsomeone. So in the end, I
guess we'll sort of, you know, we saw how that played out,
but if you were in training camp, it was it was neck and neck.
Teddy was incredibly you know, wassafe to the point of overcorrection with
the safety with the football, andyou know, Drew was a home run
hitter, but he would strike outat times, and so it really was
(19:48):
was a question of what you wanted, you know, in that quarterback battle.
But I'm looking forward to seeing Nicksversus h Stidham. I don't think
either one of these guys possess isthe time arm like a Drew Locke.
You got a Zach Wilson sort offor that. He's he's been languishing third
in this quarterback battle. But youknow, I think the fans will get
a good chance to kind of seewhat all three guys can do. And
(20:11):
you know, I'm looking forward tohearing your guys opinion on what you see
so that you understand that we're notjust towing some company line or anything like
that. But it looks like they'resetting it up for bon Nicks and it'll
be an exciting time for Broncos country. You really kind of have a first
round rookie quarterback that they've drafted, developed and trot out there. If he's
if he is the guy to sortof wind up taking the job when all
(20:33):
said and done, who knows. You could have a surprise though. I
mean Stidham or Zach Wilson could suddenlycatch fire. And you know, I
mean, if those guys win thejob, they win the job. I
think that would be a bit ofa surprise. But you know, we've
seen stranger things happen when the Whenthe Buccaneers signed quarterback Baker Mayfield is a
free agent in twenty twenty three, very few people predicted that he'd lead the
(20:56):
club to a division championship and aplayoff win. That's exactly what happened.
Mayfield turned in one of the bestseasons of his career and then was rewarded
with a three year deal worth upto one hundred million dollars. With the
fifty million guaranteed. Just before thestart of free agency, Bucks defensive tackle
Colijah Kansi was on Jim Rome yesterdaytouted the leadership that Mayfield has displayed since
(21:18):
joining the franchise last year, saying, quote, Baker's a guy you want
to run through a wall four. He's a guy that's going to leave it
all out there on the line. He's very competitive, great guy overall,
helps out the community, willing togive his life to anyone on the team
or anyone in general. He's justa baller. He's just a dog.
Mayfield, of course, was thenumber one overall pick in the twenty eighteen
(21:38):
draft, and said career highs andyards, touchdowns, and completion percentage for
the Bucks last year going over fourthousand yards, passing twenty eight touchdowns and
he's sixty four percent completion percentage. He was a Pro Bowler for the first
time, finished third in the APComeback Player of the Year voting. We've
talked a lot about how Vic Fanjidefense is sort of the norm in the
(22:02):
NFL now, you know, tightfront, up front, quarters match and
that philosophically, a lot of theleague was shifting to that, and I
think if you want to see thenext trend in what people are doing on
defense. It's it's Mike McDonald's whois now the head coach up there in
Seattle. Yeah, three or fourteams around the legue this year, they're
sort of gonna run what he didlast year. Mike has made an impression
(22:25):
on his edge rusher boy Mafey, and he did it months before he became
his new coach. The Baltimore Ravens, who McDonald was the defensive coordinator four
last year, hosted the Seahawks inWeek nine of the twenty twenty three season,
and they sent the NFC West clubback to Seattle as thirty seven to
(22:48):
three losers. Mafey said on Thegreen Light with Chris Long podcast that the
result made no sense to him, particularly because of how the defense McDonald ran
and Baltimore was able to shut downthe offense we have and the tools we
have for an entire game. Mafy'sbeen looking behind the curtain since McDonald joined
the Seahawks, and he told Lawthat he has a fuller picture of how
McDonald was able to put such asuccessful unit on the field, saying,
(23:11):
quote, I see how it's flowingin the essence of it. He's really
one of those people like X's ando's. He understands it really well.
He understands football really well, andhe understands how to utilize people, how
to move people. That's one thingI'm coming to learn. I see where
it comes from and how it works. Mafey, who made a big jump
from three sacks as a rookie tonine sacks last year, if he gets
(23:33):
the code cracked on how to utilizeand that number could jump again in twenty
twenty four. McDonald's runs something that'swildly different from what Vic ran, and
I do believe, like I said, you're going to have four or five
teams basically running what he ran inBaltimore last year, and that could grow
depending on the success that those teamshave, which could be interesting because the
(23:56):
types of players that you want aredifferent for that than what what you want
for what Vic had. That's Joseph. It's going to be running something a
little bit different this year than whatthe Broncos have run since Vick took over.
You know, luckily, corner Patsor Tan fits perfectly. He can
run manor you know, run zone. He can be put on an Island.
Who fine, It's just it's goingto be a lot more attacking and
(24:21):
aggressive, specifically in the front seventhan the Broncos have been since Wade Phillips
was the well really since Vance Josephwas the head coach here. But remind
you more of what Wade Phillips arein who Wade obviously is Vance's mentor so
you'll get a chance to kind ofsee that. One of the other things
that that I wanted to talk aboutis some potential for holdouts. Training camps
(24:48):
coming a couple of weeks away, and there are some players that less likely
to hold out. Specifically is thefine situations, but the idea that they
would hold in, which is meansyou show up for a training camp but
don't practice while negotiations continue and youclaim back spasms or whatever it is.
(25:15):
The Only problem with that approach isthat if there's if there's no deal at
some point, you got to practiceand play. If you never show up,
it's easier to just keep holding firm. So there's there's a pressure.
I think that's more pronounced if you'rein there on the player, and it's
more on the team if they aren't. There some players that that could sort
of be in line for holding in. Dolphins quarterback to a Tago Iloya and
(25:41):
receiver Tyreek Hill two all wants amarket deal. The Dolphins have yet to
offer one. The Dolphins have tomake a better offer than the twenty three
point one million he's due to makein his option year this year to get
what he wants to probably has toand he threatened to hold out or hold
in and go from there. WithTyreek Hill, he's doing everything he can
(26:04):
to put a happy face on acontract situation that has him just about as
unhappy as he was two years agoin KC. The market has passed him
by. Even though he's making thirtymillion a year, he's at twenty five
million behind teammate Jaylen Waddle. Hillseems to believe the Dolphins will adjust his
contract, and maybe they will, maybe they won't, but they'll move some
(26:26):
of the forty five million he's dueto making twenty twenty six into twenty twenty
four where he's just south of twentymillion. And if that's not good enough,
then you know, we've seen TyreekHill before and he'll kind of,
you know, throw a fit, maybe hold out. Patriots linebacker Matt Juden,
he skipped some of the off seasonprogram. He enters the final year
of his contract. Last year heheld in this year, he said he
(26:48):
won't be throwing tantrums. But youknow, well, we'll see. I
saw on Reddick and this one isis interesting. The Jets traded for a
guy who want a new contract withoutsigning him to a new contract. Should
be no surprise that he's skipped theentire offseason program. No one knows at
this point if he's going to showup for camp. In the possibility that
(27:10):
he won't underscores the magnitude of mistakethe Jets made in trading form without getting
him signed. The Jets supposedly thoughtthey had a verbal understanding with Reddick that
he'd show up for the off seasoneventually they do something better contract. But
as we've seen, verbal understandings aren'tworking to paper. They're printed on Bengals
receiver Jamar Chase. You know, the Bengals should have worked a contract out
(27:32):
for Chase the same day, justinJefferson got his new deal. It would
have been easy to get a newmoney number and all that kind of stuff,
but they didn't. The good newsfor the Bengals is that t Higgins
signed his franchise tender, so thatsort of gives them an insurance policy there
if he holds out. Amari CooperCooper skip mandatory Mini camp in an effort
(27:53):
to get a deal to replace thefinal y of his current contract as a
base salary of twenty million. TheBrowns also traded for Jerry Judy obviously and
gave him a new contract, soCooper, you know, is in line
for new money if the Browns tooplan to keep him. Courtland Sutton,
(28:14):
I think everybody knows about this.He showed up for mandatory Mini camp despite
wanting a new deal. He's dueto make only thirteen million this year,
with only two million guaranteed after it, and has not ruled out holding out
if he doesn't get a deal done. Cowboys wide receiver Ceed Lamb and linebacker
Michaeh Parsons. Lamb will not attendcamp without a deal that replaces the seventeen
point nine million he's due to makein the final year of his contract,
(28:38):
whether or not the Cowboys give himwhat he wants or mays to be seen
as there there's ways to do thatand create current capier space which would be
a win win for Cowboys who arehoping to try to free some things up
to do some things with other people. Parsons, for his part, has
said he'll be patient. He's oneof the best defensive players in football,
(29:00):
and I don't think his agent wanthim risking his health for less than three
million. In twenty twenty four.He attended mandatory mini camp, but you
know he's he's a candidate to holdout Packers quarterback Jordan Love. We talked
about that already. Bucks tackle TristanWorth. Worth's getting eighteen point four to
four million in salary for twenty twentyfour and he's been looking for a new
(29:22):
deal all year. He did showup for mandatory mini camp, but that's
no guarantee he'll show up for trainingcamp unless he gets kind of the contract
offer that he's looking for. AlvinKamara. Kamara left mandatory mini camp early
due to his frustration with contract talks. He wants security beyond twenty twenty four
and the team will probably text uptear up next year's baloney twenty five million
(29:45):
dollar compensation package. It's funny money, so we'll see he's he's obviously already
left Mini camp forty nine Ers receiverBrandon Ayuk. A lot has been said
about whether or not he won't betraded. Ultimately needs to ask himself whether
he's willing to show up and playfor fourteen point one million this year or
draw the line of the sand. For now, there's nothing other than a
(30:07):
staring contest and keeps going to socialmedia, you know, and making things
what seems worse. Ayuk himself hasstated that he sees himself either in a
Niners, Commanders or Steelers uniform innext season. Matt Stafford wants more guarantees.
(30:27):
He should want more money. We'llsee that would be difficult for the
Rams, although he has plenty ofleverage because the depth behind him is essentially
nil. The Rams don't have aton of ability to be able to do
that. But you can guarantee somemore money and maybe make it look a
(30:48):
little bit prettier. The two quarterbacksbehind him, Stetson Bennett, who was
gone from the team most of lastyear, and his back and dresser Win
don't I think inspire confidence from anybodythat they're going to be able to get
out there and do a whole lot. So Matt Stafford has all the leverage
there, but you know there's someplayers I think that we need to be
(31:08):
on the lookout that might might beholding out or holding in and a chance
to get some extensions done around theleague. Back to the AFC West Raiders,
defensive end Max Crosby set a careerhigh fourteen and a half sacks last
year. It wasn't a full strengthwhile posting those numbers. Crosby had surgeries
(31:29):
on his knee and thumb after theend of the Raiders' season. It said,
it's been a heck of an offseason as a result of those injuries.
The focus has been on returning tohis pre injury form while also working
on taking the next step as aplayer. During the coming season. Crosby
said quote, I was damn nearlimited every single day the whole season in
practice things like that via Paul Gutierrezof ESPN, and I had to learn
(31:51):
to make an adjustment because I can'tjust go out there and run my knee
into the ground. I had tobe ready for Sunday, maybe take a
step back so I could take threesteps forward. And I feel like that's
what this offseason was about. I'mexhausting every single resource I possibly have to
have the best season of my career. Crosby's injuries didn't keep him off the
field. He played every game forthe fifth time in five NFL seasons,
(32:14):
Matching that durability with better health wouldbe a step in the right direction.
The Raiders look to make a leapthis fall. Broncos fans don't need any
reminder of how good Max Crosby isand has been made a living feasting on
the Denver brought whatever tackle the Broncosput out there, including Mike McGlinchey,
and I really wanted to get tothis story. I've been waiting on this,
but Joe Shane, who's the generalmanager of the Giants, was quoted
(32:39):
as saying Pat Maholmes couldn't win behindour twenty twenty three offensive line. The
Giants stuck with Daniel Jones as aquarterback this offseason despite bringing in Drew Locke,
and general manager Joe Shane revealed oneof the reasons why during the premiere
episode of Hard Knocks. Jones struggledon the field in the first five weeks
(32:59):
before missing time with neck injury andthen returned to Tara's acl week nine.
While discussing Jones. On Tuesday night'sepisode, Shane stressed the need to protect
themselves against a possible injury, whilealso noting he's not giving up on Jones
with three years left on his contract. The only way Shane wanted to show
that commitment was by bolstering an offensiveline. They fell well below the standard
the team would like to set, saying quote he didn't have much of a
(33:22):
chance this year. Referring to thepast year, Shane said, that's legit.
The core guys that were going toplay together, they played sixty snaps
together. Miami, we got threebleeping practice squad guys for us. You
could have had Pat Maholmes. Hecan't bleeping win behind that. Jones won
one of his six starts last year. The Giants went five and six in
games started by Tarrod Taylor and TommyDeVito. The Giants offensive line needs led
(33:47):
some to predict they draft a blockerearly in the first round, but they
opted to take wide receiver Molik Neighbors. After signing guards to Jermaine a Luminor
who proops played for the Roncos, and John Runyon in free agency, Shane
open is that all three players canhelp make the more effective. Daniel Jones.
Whatever, the quarterback is clear toreturn to action. Shane said they're
(34:07):
not going to pay Daniel Jones fortymillion to hand off to a twelve million
dollar running back. That was theSaquon Barkley comments as well. You turned
into Hard Knocks to see the restof that. The Saquon Barkley situation is
interesting, and I won't spoil itfor you. See, you guys can
kind kind of watch that, butit's kind of fascinating the way those those
(34:28):
comments have been portrayed and then youknow, you sort of see them with
the real context. We've got tohit a break. You are listening to
