Welcome to it. Broncos Country Tonight. Benjamin Olbright here with you, Grant
(00:04):
Smith back there. Producing appreciate youguys sticking around with us Post Rockies edition
or Rainy Post Rockies Edition up therein Cincinnati. Five six six nine zero
is the text line. If youguys want to get involved in the conversation.
Got a bunch of things I wantto get to today. If you
missed anything, you miss anything allweek, you go to Broncos Country Night,
(00:25):
dot Com, slash podcast or whereveryou get your podcast, Apple,
iTunes, Spotify, totally free andawesome. My heart radio app did not
nail the sounder. There Al Grantson the phone. I, uh yeah,
it's okay, buddy, don't worrythat. There's uh, you know,
a lot I want to get to, uh today. We got to
a couple of things yesterday, andyou know, and all that kind of
(00:47):
stuff, and I just I'm tiredof, you know, dealing with people
who are scam artists and and youknow, cotrols and stuff. We got
into that stuf last night. I'twant to get to that again. We
had big twelve media days going on, and I did want to get into
that. I did want to getinto that. So Mike Gundhy gave I
(01:14):
guess what I'm gonna call a questionableanswer, and that might be the most
charitable way that I can term itto why Ali Gordon wasn't going to miss
time. Oklahoma State star running backAli Gordon's second is not going to miss
any time. After being arrested undersuspicion of dui back on June thirtieth,
(01:34):
Gundhi told ESPN, He's gonna play. I'm gonna do what we think is
best for Oclos State football. Ithink it's best Ali plays. If there's
any punishment, it's making him carrythe ball fifty times in the first game.
That's I mean first answer right thereis questionable, but it gets worse.
According to reports and a probable causeAffidavid, it's a trooper spoted a
half full bottle of vodka and ahalf w fule bottle of tequila while Gordon
(01:57):
will stopped for swerving and going eightytwo and a sixth five zone. Gordon,
of course, is the reigning Bigtwelve Offensive Player of the Year,
won the dog Walker Award after seventeenhundred and thirty two rushing yards twenty two
touchdowns in twenty twenty three, andhe did release a statement apologizing for his
actions. On Monday, Gundy saidin a roundtable that to make a decision
regarding the punishment for Gordon, hehad to it was best for Ali,
(02:20):
our university and our team. Andhe said, is suspending him for one
game really gonna matter? I don'tthink so. Suspending him for six games
maybe maybe that would do it.But then I don't think that's fair to
everybody else on our team, andI have to take them into consideration.
Ali's a great person that made amistake. Gundhy went on to say,
and this is the point where youknow, I think there's a problem,
(02:43):
And Gunny said, in Oklahoma, the legal limited point oh eight. Ali
was point one. I looked itup and it was based on bodyweight.
Not to get into the legal sideof it, but I thought, really,
two or three or four beers.I'm not justifying what Ali did.
I'm telling you what decision I made. Well, I thought, I've probably
done that a thousand times in mylife, and it's just fine. I
got lucky. People get lucky.Gundhy said that appears to be an admission
(03:10):
that Mike Gundhy has driven over thelegal limit in Oklahoma many, many,
many times. Gundhy got on Twitterand said, my intended point today at
the Big Twelve Media Days was thatwe're all guilty of making bad decisions.
Was not a reference to something specific, although it certainly was. The quote
was Gordon was made available today, which Gundy said was the decision left up
(03:36):
to Gordon and part of making surehe learns from his situation. Media Days
will continue. Colorado's Deon Sanders willbe available tomorrow, along with Baylor's Dave
Verranda and Houston's Willie Fritz. Butthis particular situation, this particular quote from
Mike Gundy bothers me for a numberof reasons. The problem here for me
(04:00):
is multifaceted in that it appears thatMike Gundy is saying, well, it
appears he's talking out of both sidesof his mouth in terms of what he
meant by what he said, Butit also appears that he's setting several double
standards here. In the first,he's saying that if you're a player that's
good enough, it doesn't matter whatyou do if it's detrimental to the team.
That I'm punishing the team by punishingyou for things you should be punished
(04:23):
for. So I'm not gonna doit, and that that just doesn't hold
any water with me. Secondly,it appears to say that he's he's okay.
If you're you know, you haveIf you drink, just don't drive.
This isn't difficult. We've had this, We've we've had this for since
I've been alive, drinking and drivingcampaigns, mothers against drunk driving, all
(04:46):
that kind of stuff. We've gotenough data, We've had enough you know,
programs on this, We've had enoughadvertising to it. It's it's it's
if you drink, just don't drive. It doesn't matter if you had two
beers, okay, And to befair, I was guilty of driving when
I was in college. I hada couple of beers and I would drive
like that kind of stuff. I'venever driven, to my knowledge, over
the legal limit. And now Idon't drive at all if I drink,
(05:09):
like I just don't. We haveuber. We have too many services out
there and too many you know, ways to avoid any type of problem whatsoever.
And Mike Gundhy knows that he's aman, he's forty after all right,
Mike Gandy knows that. Mike Gundyknows that there are way too many
(05:32):
options to not drink and drive. He's letting the star player off the hook
because it's a star player and incollege football and specifically where he is,
winning matters more than building character. You can look at the history of Mike
Gundy at that program and see thatthat's the case. Oklahoma State under Gundy's
(05:54):
had problems before. Mike Gundy wassympathetic early on because he stood up for
one of his players. That's wherethe I'm a man and I'm forty came
from that rant. He was sympatheticearly on there at Oklahoma State because he
did the right things and stood upfor players that needed to be stood up
for. At the time, acolumnist down there had written a borderline racist
column about one are the players thereand Mike Gundy the great job of standing
(06:18):
up for him. I don't wantto completely throw him under the bus without
contextualizing, but at the same time, especially over the last decade, Oklahoma
State's had a problem with character issuesand some players, and you know,
Mike Gundy is an example of howyou can't let the standard slip because if
you let the standard slip, thenit slips all the way. Then there
is no standard, right, Andthis is a thing in football, like
(06:41):
you talk about it on the field, not letting the standard slip, so
it cuts your own legs out fromunder you in terms of credibility as a
coach. If you let the standard, well, we're gonna let it slide
on this because well then you canlike you gotta let everything slide. You
either have standards don't And Mike Gundyat this point has set Oklahoma State up
(07:02):
to where they look like they're aprogram that doesn't have standards anymore. If
you're good enough, it doesn't matter, even the law doesn't apply. Making
excuses like one game isn't enough,I should go six, but then that
hurts the team. That's exactly whatthat is is an excuse. You can't
(07:25):
sit there and justify poor decision making. So there has to be something that's
done here to set the standard thatthis sort of off field behavior is unacceptable
in the program, and it appliesto star players as well. One of
the great things in talking to NickFerguson is how Bill Parcells held everybody to
(07:49):
the same standard. Nick of coachof course, was coached by coach Parcels
and revers him. And when youtalk about that, he holds everybody the
same standard. It didn't matter ifyou were the star of the foot ball
team Curtis Martin, or if youwere a special team or a practice squad
got you got held to the exactsame standard. Mike Gundy is apparently not
that guy. And I'm not sayingthat this doesn't go on in other programs.
(08:15):
I'm not saying that preferential treatment isn'tsomething that goes on at a multitude
or plethora of other programs. I'msaying that if you're going to have a
standard, you have to have astandard. And Gundhy's answer or non answer
and then follow up were ridiculous.I don't understand how you can sit there
(08:37):
and say that it's not going tobe punishment to hold him out of game
or whatever. And to me,it's not about punishment. It's about setting
a corrective standard in the sense thatif you do this, we are going
to provide consequences. There has tobe consequences. Punishment is the wrong word
there, so I apologize for apedily using them. Wishment is what happens
(09:00):
under the law if you're found guiltyconsequences of what happens when when you do
something, and you know Gordon,to his part, hasn't denied what he
was doing, there has to beconsequences. There has to be a standard
of conduct, and if you don'tmeet that standard, there has to be
consequences for that. My Gundy isshowing that he doesn't have those. I
(09:24):
was thinking outside the box and aconversation with someone earlier, and I don't
know if it's possible, but isthere some type of nil hit? Can
you start finding players for this kindof stuff? Can you withhold nile collective
money under morality clause? Because ifit were anybody else, if this is
Joe Bob Smith, you're getting aDUI. You don't get to get away
(09:52):
with it. First defense dui penaltiesin Colorado or five days to a year
in jail, a fine of sixhundred to one thousand, plus court costs,
forty eight to ninety six hours ofcommunity service, twelve DMV points on
your driving record, and a driver'slicense revocation for nine months for your first
(10:16):
offense. And I don't admittedly knowwhat the dui laws are in terms of
what all comes from legal penalties. But in football, we have these other
standards and you can't act a fooland be a leader. And Ali Gordon
(10:37):
the second is absolutely a leader onthat football team. You're talking about one
of the best offensive players in collegefootball. So is it okay to let
him get away with it because he'sgood? Because that's what my Gundy's trying
to sell you. The Dallas Cowboyshave been trying to sell that they're all
(10:58):
in this season for a Super Bowl. People have scoffed at the notion.
As Dallas did very little in freeagency. Cowboys wide receiver Cede Lamb had
six hundred participants in his youth footballcamp in round Rock today, and as
he promised, he did not talkabout contract negotiations. In fact, Lamb
(11:22):
declined an interview request about any topic, including the camp, from Nick Harris,
who works for the Dallas Cowboys teamwebsite. Harris reports that a few
fans pressed Lamb on his contract situationand he just basically smiled. Lamb announced
on social media Monday that he wouldgive zero answers to the media about contract
(11:43):
talks, and he was definitely aman of his word. Lamb is not
expected for the start of training campon July twenty fifth, after skipping the
team's offseason program, including mandatory minicamp. He's set to make seventeen point
nine to nine million this year onthe fifth year option and is eligible for
the franchise tag in twenty twenty five, but he wants to be paid as
(12:03):
one of the top receivers in theNFL now, Minnesota is justin Jefferson.
Philadelphia's A. J. Brown areamongst some of the receivers who've gotten extensions
this offseason that you would sort ofpatter to contract after Dak Prescott was at
his youth football camp today and hesaid he's been throwing at Lamb and expects
the receiver to be ready when it'stime to play whatever and whenever that may
(12:31):
occur. Dallas, as many behindthe scenes say, will probably blow up
the current coaching staff and roster ifthey're unable to have much success this season,
and it'll be an interesting division therein the NFC East where you've got
Dan Quinn and rookie quarterback Jadon Danielstaking over the Commanders and retooling their look.
(12:52):
Quinn, of course, was thedefensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys previously.
You've got an Eagles team that's that'salways tough, and they added some
key play and then you know, the Giants will see what they're able to
do sans Saquon Barkley and with thereturn of Daniel Jones and perhaps even Drew
Locke, who is on that rosternow five six six nine zeros. Text
Line got quite a few comments onthe Gundy situation. Several people are saying,
(13:16):
well, the legal punishments are stillgoing to fit, and I sort
of get that. I do getthat, But being a member of a
football team, there's a different standard. There is If you ever been in
a locker room, you know there'sa different standard. You know there's an
additional standard, And that's sort ofwhat I'm getting at. I'm not saying
that Gordon is going to skate freefrom legal consequences. We don't know that
(13:37):
yet. What I am saying isthat internally, Mike Gundy seems to have
a preferential system in which if youare a star player who impacts what's happening
on the field, he finds anexcuse to keep you on the field by
justifying that suspending you for multiple gameswould be detrimental to the team as a
whole. The backup looking to showwhat you've got. I think that's a
(14:03):
slap in the face. I gota slap in the face to teammates,
and like I said, Bill Parcelsheld everybody the same standard. I think,
in my opinion, I think thatthat's the way to go. Hold
all players to the same standard, then you have a credibility as far as
(14:26):
that goes. Real quick. KeyonColeman, who was not a first round
pick in April, but that's notkeeping anybody from predicting that he's going to
have a major role with the Billsas fall. Coleman was selected after the
Bills part of ways with Stefan Diggsand Gabe Davis early this offseason. The
moves left the team pretty parisly thinat wide receivers, so Coleman could be
(14:46):
in line for early work under anycircumstances. But quarterback Josh Allen called him
the type of receiver they need, and his work in the off season program
has certainly ramped up the expectations.During an interview with Bryan Fatten of CBS
Sports, Coleman was asked he's carryingextra pressure on his shoulders because of the
projections. He said, not atall. All I do is come in
(15:07):
and be myself, be what I'msupposed to be. The play is going
to make itself. All I gotto do is just be in the moment
because I'm not Gave, I'm notSteph, I'm just key On. We
got a lot of the guys thatdefinitely want to compliment my game. We
complment each other's games along with Joshto make things work. They have plenty
of receivers and made splashes rookies inrecent years. But we'll see if Coleman
can join that. Typically receivers breakoutas it were in year two. But
(15:31):
keon Coleman, I think he's beengood for the city of Buffalo in addition
to you know, being a player, like just just being a you know,
a part of that Buffalo culture. If you guys haven't seen his social
media's a pretty funny guy and it'sit's certainly his social media is certainly fun
and interesting to watch. The Billshave beefed up the receiving course since so
(15:52):
you got Coleman, who they draftedCurtis Samuel figures to be the other starter
came over from Washington and Khalils Shakirthe slot. As far as backups,
they brought in Mac Hollins from Atlanta, Chase Claypool, Marquez Valdes, Scantling
from Kansas City, you know, former Bronco kJ Hamler, Andy Isabella,
formerly the Cardinals. So they've gotyou know, depth there. They've got
(16:15):
five or six other guys they broughtin for camp and gonna they're gonna take
a look at as far as thereceivers go, it'll be interesting to see,
you know, who shakes out.If our old buddy, uh kJ
Hamler can make that roster, we'llsee, uh see how that ends up
and how that how that goes fivesix six nine zeros text line. I
want to hear you guys's opinion.I got a lot of stuff here on
the on the Gandhi thing. Youguys are pretty passionate about that. It's
(16:38):
pretty split here on the text linefifty to fifty about that. So we'll
get into that. We get achance. You listen to Broncos Country tonight
right here on KOA. It's afifty AM ninety four one FM News Talk
Sports welcome back to it, BroncosCountry tonight, Benjamin, all right here
with you, grat Smith back thereproducing five six six nine zero. So
(17:00):
is the text line you want toget involved in the conversation three or three
see three eight five eighty five call. Although most of our listeners tend to
text or leave the voicemail messages, which you can leave the voicemail message on
the iHeart app. You just clickon the little red microphone up in the
corner and leave us those messages. We love those talkbacks, which are basically
(17:21):
voicemail messages. We love incorporate. Some of our best bits on the show.
I think have come from soundbites someof you guys doing that. So
I am looking forward to hearing whatyou guys had to say quite a bit
on this Mike Gundy stuff. Mostof you guys, it seems like most
of you guys are of the opinionthat there does need to be a standard
in the locker room. Some someof you are a little bit different and
say why it's just the way thatit is. Maybe that's the wrong answer,
(17:45):
but that's the right answer to SoI don't know. Stocks and Broncos
here, Jarrett Stidham, who accordingto Vegas is considered a long shot to
start for the Broncos week one.Currently at plus six fifty, Zach Wilson
plus four fifty Nicks Bo Nicks minusfour hundred is the prohibitive favorite, but
(18:10):
Jared Stidham has the most experience inthe offense of the three quarterbacks competing for
the job. Joined the Broncos asa free agent last year, started the
final two games in place of RussellWilson. Broncos, of course, added
Zach Wilson in the trade with theJets and drafted Bone Knicks in the first
round. Three quarterbacks split the firstteam reps in the offseason program. Stidham,
(18:34):
who he's twenty seven, continues totry to put himself in position to
win the job. He's hosting someof his teammates in Texas for three or
four days of workouts this week downthere at TCU. Mike Clisse of nine
News reporting on that Stidham's entering hissix NFL season but only has four career
(18:56):
starts. Obviously, two of thosecoming last year with the the other two
were the final two games of theseason, four that coming on in replacement
of Derek Carr for virtually the samereason. An injury guarantees players not rehabbing
from injuries are not allowed to participatein on field workouts at the team facility
(19:17):
during the summer break, which iswhy people go work out with quarterbacks,
and quarterbacks tend to gather the peopleto go work out. Right now,
Stidham's home down are in Texas, but the workouts are at TCU and they've
got several other activities they've scheduled, kind of bonding things over the next few
(19:37):
days. Off season passing sessions havealways been conducted by the quarterbacks here where
that was Peyton Manning or Russell Wilson, or even Mark Sanchez when he was
briefly here that preseason before they ultimatelywent with Trevor Simeon. Rookies report to
training camp July seventeenth, which isnext week. Veterans join them on July
(20:00):
twenty third, and we've already goneover the schedule as far as how to
attend. You guys, if youwant your free tickets, you got to
do the thing through through ticket Master. You have to add the tickets they're
free chat to have the tickets toget into the practices and there's a limited
number of those, so you maywant to may want to look at that
(20:21):
the hurricane has damaged the Stadium EnergyStadium down there, which is the home
of the Texans. I don't knowif you guys have kept up with this,
but a lot of Houston's without electricityand tatters right now. Eighty miles
an hour wins Category one hurricane. So they're saying that Mini May Park,
(20:44):
which is the home of the Astros, is undamaged and they've even got a
game going on tonight. Anergyes damageis similar to what was done with Hurricane
Ike, and the their home openerwas postponed is five million dollars in repairs
were made to roof panels. Thatthe Texans don't play a home game until
August seventeenth. Their first regular seasonhome game is September fifteenth, So I
(21:04):
don't know if they're going to haveto cancel any games or move them somewhere
neutral site, that kind of stuff, But we'll see, you know,
kind of where that shakes out andif that affects anything with the Houston Texans.
Adrian Wilson, who is a formerPanthers and Cardinals' front office. Ezac
(21:26):
was arrested in early June on domesticviolence related charges. Carolina confirmed over the
weekend that Wilson has quietly left theorganization, but the Panthers did not comment
further on the reason for the departure. Wilson, who's forty four, was
arrested at six am on June firstin charge of assault, criminal damage,
(21:49):
and disorderly conduct. A Scottsdale Policespokesperson confirmed to the athletic charges are misdemeanors
and Wilson's next court day it isa management conference. On July sixteen,
Arizona Cardinals drafted Wilson in the thirdround for the two thousand and one draft.
Played for the franchise through twenty twelve, and after his playing career ended,
(22:12):
he then rejoined Arizona as a regionalscout in twenty fifteen. He got
promoted to Director Pro Scouting twenty nineteen, VP of Pro Scouting in twenty twenty
one, and then served as theco general manager for Arizona towards the end
of the twenty twenty two season. After Steve Kine was was austed and before
(22:33):
Matty austin Ford got there. Alot of people thought he was a shoeing
for the job. Carolina then hiredhim in early twenty twenty three to be
the team's VP of player Personnel. The report from the Athletic notes that the
Panthers referred the outlet to the organization'sstatement from over the weekend when asked if
the club was aware of his arrest. So, you know, it's just,
(23:00):
guys, one thing that that Nickand I have talked about I can't
wait to do. We've got alive show coming up in two nights,
a full live show myself, NickFerguson'll be back. When I say live
show, that's what I mean,Me and Nick in a full live show
here on BCT. I can't waitto gets back. So I want to
talk about this and techniques that wecan use as men to learn to control
(23:21):
anger, diffuse situations, and andso I just I'm really looking forward to
being able to talk to him onThursday and sort of delve into that because
you know, these situations that we'veseen, we saw you know, Richard
Sherman through the doorbell cam and showingon all kind of stuff. We've got
to have techniques that we can haveas men to you know, to be
able to defuse situations instead of escalatingand aggravating them. You know, even
(23:44):
if you've got a partner that's doingthat, you've got to find a way
to de escalate situations. So justsomething I want to I want to talk
to him about when he gets back. We're we're all looking forward to that,
uh here on Thursday next week.Of course, the Rockies obviously going
to be off for the All Starbreaks, so we'll have quite a few
(24:04):
live shows, you know, nextweek, which will be a lot of
fun since we haven't had full, full live shows like that for a couple
of weeks now. And Nick,to his credit, we text the other
day. He said, you gotasked the deli if he was even on
Koa anymore. So looking forward tolooking forward to seeing his smiling face again.
(24:25):
We'll see if the beard is backor if he's still still clean and
shaving. I don't even know.I don't know. I've let the beard
grow out in the interim, sowe'll see what he has to say.
I had shaved it off. Well, we're gonna, I guess we'll compare
growth and see see how it goes. Speaking of growth, the Tampa Bay
Bucks are hoping they'll grow and specificallyrunning back were Shot White. The Buccaneers
wound up winning the NFC South thelast two seasons, but their path of
(24:48):
playoffs is not exactly been an overwhelmingone. They took the division with the
losing record in twenty twenty two,and they scraped past the winless Panthers nine
to nothing to secure their ninth winand the crown last year. Those two
seasons were running back for shod White'sfirst two years in the league, and
he said on their Cheison show onTuesday that the goal for the team is
to make a more compelling case forthe strength of their team this time around.
(25:11):
Same quote. It's nothing but goodvibrations, good vibes coming in this
year. Bucks have been a slepton team for years. We've done had
our trials and tribulations. I saywe now because I'm here and I know
the history of it. Times havechanged and it's time for us to take
the next step. Like I said, I want eight games my rookie year
won nine last year. It's timeto take that next step, get well
over that and not just barely makethe playoffs or barely win the division.
(25:33):
Win the division, how I knowwe should win the division. Bucks were
able to win a playoff game afterclosing the twenty twenty three regular season with
five wins in six games, andthey've shown an ability to string wins together
despite lingering around five hundred. Doingthat to open up the year would set
the Bucks up well for making threeplayoff trips in three years with White.
(25:56):
Of course, the Tampa Bay Buckssigned Baker Mayfield to his excuse me big
deal this off season and made himtheir quarterback of the future. He signed
a three year, one hundred milliondollar contract with thirty million guaranteed in year
one, a ten million dollars signingbonus, and a ten million dollar injury
(26:18):
guarantee that becomes vested in twenty twentyfive so that Baker will be have some
continuity. Finally, you know,I always loved Baker Mayfield as a player.
Loved him back at in Oklahoma, you know, loved him. I
loved what he was able to dothere when he got drafted number one overall,
(26:38):
I mean I was, you know, yes for the short kings.
You know, I mean he's sixone and I'm five to ten. But
you get the idea. I thoughtthat his time in Cleveland that he sort
of got railroaded a little bit.You know, when when he was in
(26:59):
Cleveland, he had ninety two touchdownsto fifty six interceptions, like that's a
that's that's a good numbers, right, those are good numbers. And for
whatever reason, people were calling hima buster, saying whatever, and they
shipped him out and Cleveland wound upwith Deshaun Watson was barely played and been
significantly worse. Baker never had anycontinuity up there, whether it was the
Hugh Jackson fiasco or then it wasthe Kitchens fiasco. They just they never
(27:23):
had continuity up there. And Ithought he was getting it there in year
three through for thirty five hundred yards, twenty six touchdowns, eight picks.
But you know the problem for himwas, you know, sort of needing
protection. Because this tea the yearthat Kevin Stefanski got there, all of
(27:51):
a sudden, his sack percentage shotthrough the roof. He went from a
guy who was getting sacked on fivepercent of his dropbacks to us to a
guy who's getting sacked on on almostten percent of his dropbacks. And that
that continuity carried forward, So youknow, I mean, I think Baker
Mayfield can be, you know,a really good quarterback. You look at
(28:15):
what he did last year, twentyeight touchdowns, ten picks. I mean,
it's got over four thousand yards ina season for the first time,
completed sixty four percent of his passes. Now Canalis, the offensive coordinator obviously
has moved on from Tampa. ButI just, you know, I think
Baker Mayfield is a criminally underrated quarterbackin the league. And he has his
(28:40):
shortcomings and there's no pun intended there, but they've got they've got a decent
offense there with Goblin at Evans andTrey Palmer. They've got some decent offensive
lineman there. I don't particularly likethe right side of their line, but
the left side of the line isin the center position. They got Graham
Barton the rookie in there, now, you know, and I don't he
(29:02):
doesn't have any competition. I mean, Kyle Trask is a Noboddy, John
Walford and zach Atistott or not peoplethat I think are going to be threatening
him. And then Liam Cohen, who he does has some familiarity with.
Cohen was with the Rams when Bakerwas with the Rams. You know,
it's now the offensive coordinator who's replacingDave Kanalison moved on to be the head
(29:26):
coach of the Carolina Panthers. So, you know, I think I think
Baker is in a good situation forhim, and I'd like to see him
shine. I'd like to see himsucceed. You know, I think I
think he's a fun guys and he'sa guy to root for as far as
the league goes. And again, like I said, even with all the
horrific circumstances he had in Cleveland, ninety two touchdowns to fifty six picks is
(29:48):
pretty good. And you're talking abouta guy who, I mean, the
Carolina and the Rams thing didn't reallywork. You're talking about ten touchdowns to
eight picks, and you know itwasn't that good. But the Tampa Bay
thing he's seems to be seems tobe flourishing in and that looks like something
that, since they paid him, will will hopefully help him take off from
(30:11):
there. As it were five sixsix nine zero's text line, DeVante Adams
told Josh Jacobs, you hold itdown on Green Bay, I hold it
down here. Wide receiver Devanta Adamsbeen the subject of trade chatter at times
since joining the Raiders, and theprospect of him leaving Las Vegas was part
of a text he received from formerteammate Josh Jacobs this offseason. Jacobs signed
(30:33):
with the Packers as a free agentand said that he texted Adams you think
about coming back along with the eyesemoji after signing with the Packers, who
was DeVante adams first NFL club,Jacobs said on NFL Network more recently that
he had Adams joke around with eachother a lot while downplaying a real thought
of the Adams returning to Green Bay. Adams confirmed it was taken in jest,
(30:56):
even if he thinks there was somekernel of truth behind the comment.
Adams on The up End Adams withk Adams Show, said it was true.
He did send that over. Joshis one of my best friends.
Man. He's hilarious. People don'tknow how funny he is. He's definitely
a joke, but it's one ofthose jokes where he was serious because he
would like that. I told him, you go ahead and hold it down,
and I'm gonna hold it down overhere. I don't think I'll be
(31:18):
coming back over there. Adams andsaid, you never know what could happen
if they shipped me off before sayingI'm a raider to kind of fancy footwork
his way out of the conversation.DeVante Adams is a pretty funny guy,
Josh Jacobs. He is definitely afunny guy. If you've never had a
chance, you should always pay attentionto interviews he does. He's a pretty
funny guy. And I don't thinkthat there was really any chance that that
(31:44):
Davante's going back to Green Bay.They've got a ton of young wide receivers
up there with with Watson and Dubsand all that, and I think they're
I think they're pretty said, butyou know, you never know. It's
a it's a short time league, you know, guys with your short time
and they're on to something else. And so it's entirely possible that he could
(32:05):
go back. Brett Farv in thenews trying to get his defamation case against
Shannon Sharp reinstated. Legal fight involvingboth Hall of famers landed an appeals court
on Tuesday. Farv hopes to resuscitatehis defamation case against Shannon Sharp with the
Assistant of the US Court Appeals forthe Fifth Circuit via the Associated Press.
(32:27):
The action returned to court today. The case, which relates to Farv's entanglement
and a multimillion dollar in Mississippi welfarescandal, focuses on comments made by Sharp
in September of twenty twenty two, when he said on his then f S
one show that Farv was taking fromthe underserved, that he stole money from
people that really needed that money, and that someone would have to be a
(32:49):
sorry person to steal from the lowestto the low The lowest court dismissed Farre's
case and reason that Sharp's comments wereprotected by the First Amendment is rhetorical hyperbole.
The legal question for now is whethera reasonable listener would interpret what Channon
Sharp said as indicating that FARV literallystole money from Mississippi residents. If the
(33:12):
prior ruling is upheld, Var's nextmove after seeking a rehearing would be to
request the Supreme Court take up thecase, and if that decision is overturned,
it would go back to the lowercourts for further proceedings. It is
not expected that Farv will get anywherewith this, but he continues to tip
at windmills chaotically in an effort to. I don't really know, Like everybody
(33:36):
knows what you did at this point, so I don't know what Brett Farv
is hoping to accomplish with any ofthat. It just one of those things
that I don't know. It's justone of those things that kind of freaks
me out a little bit. I'mlike, why would you continue to do
this? Why would you continue?Freaks Out's wrong word. Well, he
continues to hammer this thing home, and you know when you're guilty of it,
So whatever, Antonio, excuse me. Richard is joining forces with Tom
(34:01):
Brady a secure Raiders ownership stake.Brady won't be the only former Patriot trying
to get a piece. Seymour isfinalizing a deal to become an owner and
limited partner of the Raiders, andif it went it could be comes official.
The arrangement will be the culmination ofan effort that dates back to twenty
twenty, with Mark Davis continuing hisfather's commitment to equality. Al Davis was
(34:22):
ahead of his in the league's timewhen it came to diversity. From hiring
Tom Flores Orchelle and making Amy Trashthe team's president, Mark Davis looks to
be continuing that effort as well. You are listening to Broncos Country tonight.
